The only clue (and it's a thin one) as to who carved the Manitowoc Doughboy is a similar headstone found in a cemetery in Monroe State Forest, Indiana. It's the grave of brothers Raymond and Thomas Riddle, WWI Vets who died of influenza in 1919, two days apart. Their grandmother paid $500 for the monument, which was described as being made by "a stonecarver from Owen County [Indiana]", the birthplace of E.M.
