MEANY: Henry m: 26 Aug. 1903 (co. mar. index v.7 p.290) to: Joanna O'Loughlin ******** LOUGHLIN-MEANY. With the impressive rites of the Roman Catholic church, the marriage of Miss Josephine Loughlin, of Cato and Henry Meany, of this city, was solemnized today, the service being performed at St. Mary's church at Clarks Mills at 10 o'clock. The wedding was a quiet, family affair, witnesses of the ceremony being only immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Miss Mamie Brennan was bridesmaid and Michael Loughlin groomsman. At Cato hall this evening, the event will be celebrated with a reception and dance at which nearly 100 invited guests from this city will be in attendance. At Cato the marriage was the society event of the season. Both Mr. Meany and his bride are widely known and popular with a large circle of friends. Reared in the same community, schoolmates in their younger days, the marriage is the outgrowth of the friendship and attachment formed then. Miss Laughlin was for several years a resident of this city and to all favored with her acquaintance became endeared. Of late years she had resided in Milwaukee. The groom is a young man of extended acquaintance throughout Manitowoc county and possesses the friendshp of all who know him. Endowed with those qualities of sturdy manhood which are ever admired, ambitious and capable, he has won a success that is not to be measured by outward appearance. For several years Mr. Meany was deputy under Sheriff Lehrman and later was in charge of the county buildings. Recently he engaged in the livery business and now conducts the stables on Thirteenth street which bear his name. Manitowoc people, generally, will unite in well wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Meany who will take up their home in this city immediately. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Wednesday, August 26, 1903 P. 1

Manitowoc Pilot, Wis., Thursday, June 6, 1901 pg. 5 ***** Marriage License obtained: John E. Meany and Anna Gilbert Dempsey both of Manitowoc Der Nord Westen, 20 June 1901 ***** IN HAPPIEST OF UNION Miss Anna Gilbert Dempsey and Dr. John E. Meany Plight Troth. PRETTY CHURCH WEDDING. Society Event of the Season That Brought Greatest Happiness in Realization – Popular Young People Wed. All nature smiled in harmony with the complete happiness that today came to two of Manitowoc’s most prominent and popular young people and society gave gracious attention to a function that has long been anticipated as the event of the social season – the marriage of Miss Ann Gilbert Dempsey to Dr. John E. Meany. In the presence of a large gathering of friends, midst the sweet fragrance of rare blossoms and surrounded by the happiest of circumstances, the nuptial celebration occurred at St. Boniface church at 9:30 o’clock. The charm of simplicity waned to a perfect arrangement contributed to make the wedding one of the prettiest ever witnessed within the church. Decorations of palms and potted ferns, with an abundance of flowers made up a scene that added to the happiness of the occasion. It was 9:30 o’clock when the party entered the church, the bride and groom meeting at the altar rail where Rev. Father Peil officiated to pronounce the union. The bride was charming in a handsome gown of silk de sole and carried a shower boquet (sic) of bridal roses. She was attended by her sister Miss Margaret Dempsey, who wore a dress of pearl gray de sole. The groom was accompanied by Benjamin Dempsey as best man. Little Misses Valene Barden and Grace McCullough were flower girls where Messrs. Timothy and Patrick Kelley were the ushers. Every detail of the arrangements were perfect and while there were no elaborate display, the function, characterized by a simple grandeur, was beautiful and ceremony impressive. At the home of the bride’s parents, immediately after the ceremony a reception to relatives and intimate friends was held, and a wedding breakfast served. Tasteful decorations of the rooms wherein a color scheme of pink and white was followed made a pretty scene to celebrate the event of the day. Many handsome gifts testified the esteem in which the contracting parties are held. Dr. and Mrs. Meany are among the most prominent of Manitowoc social favorites and their marriage is a great pleasure to many friends. To pay a tribute to the bride in the set phases of ordinary compliment would be both fulsome and inappropriate. She belongs to that type that have made the U. S. the envy of the world pure hearted honest and true accomplished and greatly beloved by her friends and respected by all who know her. The groom is a leading practitioner of the city, a young man who enjoys the confidence and highest esteem of both the business and social world. The bridal couple will leave this evening for an extended Eastern trip and after a visit to the Buffalo Exposition will return to take up their home in a residence on State street. The sincere well wishes of a host of friends will accompany them. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Wednesday, June 19, 1901, 1 ***** Miss Anna G. Dempsey became Mrs. J.E. Meany at the church of St. Boniface on Wednesday morning. The Rev. Father Peil, pastor of the congregation, said a nuptial mass as a part of the wedding ceremony. The bride being quite popular among the younger element, her marriage was looked forward to with some degree of interest, hence was the church fairly well filled to witness the event by those who delight in wedding. The bridal party was taken to the church in carriages at 9:30 o'clock. When the principals arrived, they made their way to the sanctuary rail and the ceremony was soon over. The altar was prettily decorated, which lent beauty to the scene. Miss Dempsey was gowned in white silk and carried flowers, and her bridesmaid, Miss Margaret Dempsey was dressed in pearl gray silk. Benjamin Dempsey was groomsman, Miss Valene Barden and Grace McCullough, flower girls and Timothy and Patrick Kelley, ushers. The newly married couple left last night for Buffalo, where they will pass their honeymoon. Manitowoc Pilot, Wis., Thursday, June 20, 1901 pg. 5

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nursing staff of St. Mary's Home at Felician Village for the care they provided to Doris. The celebration, which embraces a family reunion and a reception to neighbors and friends, afternoon and evening, is held at the farm home which has been the abode of the couple during all their wedded life and the day is one that bears a full measure of enjoyment to Mr. and Mrs. Meisnest and their guests. Mr. and Mrs. Meisnest are both natives of the Old World and came to Manitowoc county with their families in early days and the courtship that ended in the marriage Aug. 8, 1858 was started here. After their marriage, the couple located on a farm at Branch and the property has continued to be their hoome during the half century of time. In early days, Mr. Meisnest was a millwright and later devoted himself to farming and he one of the successful agriculturalists of the county. With exception of Fred, who is located at Seatlle, Wash., all of the children are home for the wedding anniversary celebration and the occasion is a happy one. Mr. and Mrs. Meisnest have exchanged the red roses of youth for the white roses of autumn of life but the frosts of winter has not withered their hearts and their spirit is still bright with the freshness of youth. Many friends in this city and throughout the county will tender congratulations to the worthy couple. Among guests at the wedding are Mr. and Mrs. Setzer, Nebraska, George and Charles Meisnest of this city. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Sat., Aug. 8, 1908

Taken from official sources, of those who have become entangled in the matrimonial noose. The time runs from the first of November till date. By statue the official performing the ceremony, is enjoined to file a certificate in the Register's office. We find they are somewhat remiss. Another requirement of law is, that the married couple should file in the Register's office a record of the result, generally within one year from date of marriage. This law is seldom complied with. MENTZEL: Alfred F.B. m: 20 Feb. 1902 (co. mar. index v.7 p.202) to: Minnie Mae Lynn ******** FORECAST OF NUPTIAL EVENT. License Issued for Marriage of Miss Lynn and A.F. Mentzell (sic) An approaching nuptial celebration was forecast by the issuance of a license today to Miss Minnie Mae Lynn, daughter of superintendant A.W. Lynn of the Manitowoc & Northern Traction company and Alfred F.B. Mentzel, of Milwaukee. The marriage will take place at the home of the bride's paretns on St. Claire street February 20 and will be a quiet home wedding. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Thursday, February 13, 1902 ************* BOND OF HAPPY UNION Miss M. Mae Lynn the Bride of F.B. Mentzell (sic) of Milwaukee. QUIET AND PRETTY FUNCITON Out of Town Guests Witness Charming Wedding that Claims Daughter of A.W. Lynn at 2:30 Today The loveliest and dearest of all God's gifts to man is a bride and when the bond of happy union is consummated the whole world is akin. Happiness came to two hearts today with the ceremony which sanctioned the marital relation for Miss M. Mae Lynn, of this city and Albert F.B. Mantzell, of Milwaukee. the marriage took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Lynn, on St. Claire street at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon and was witnessed by only immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Although a quiet affair the wedding was a brilliant social function to which the elegant arrangement of the perfect appointments loaned a charm. The bearutiful ring service of the Episcopal church was used, Rev. S.R.S. Gray officiating. The ceremony was performed in the east parler (sic), the decorations of bride's roses and carnations forming a very pretty setting. The bride wore a handsome tailor-made traveling gown that greatly enhanced her many personal charms. Dinner was served the bridal party immediately following the ceremony and a reception to friends was held later in the afternoon. Many handsome gifts testified to the popularity of the bride who, though a resdent (sic) of the city but a short time, has won a place in the affection of a wide circle of friends who are justly proud of her. She possesses those pleasing ways and manners that are irresistible and the home over which she presides will be a happy one. The groom is a well known business man of Milwaukee, engaged in the retail drug trade and bears a recommendation of a high character, business ability and social attainments. Among the out-of-town guests who were present at the marriage were Mr. and Mr. A. Mentzell and daughter Miss Elsa, of Miwlaukee; Mr. and Mrs. D.B. Hathaway, Cleveland, O.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schaff, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Enocksen and daughter, Ashland; Miss Bonibel Haupt, McGregor Ia.; Miss Florence Crandel, of Milwaukee. The bridal couple leave this evening for Chicago for a two weeks stay and will then take up their home in Milwaukee. Congratulations and well wishes of friends accompany them. He has taken at different stores in this Town goods for which I have been obliged to pay. Now I would pubicly say, I will pay no more on his account. Manitowoc Pilot, Wis., Thursday, April 11, 1907 pg. 5 ***** MEYER-THOMPSON WEDDING TODAY Event is Complete Surprise to Friends Who Expected a Later Date Wedded at the noon hour and off for Chicago before the fact became public, Miss Ella Thompson and Herman Meyer, a well known young couple of the city today, perpretrated a complete surprise on friends who, though acquainted with the fact that the event was probable at some not far distant date, had no intimation that the marriage was to be celebrated at this time. The ceremony, at the home of the bride on N. Tenth Street, Rev. Carl Machmiller officiating, was a quiet one with only the immediate familes present and the bridal pair departed at 2:55 for the honeymoon. Plans of the young people were well arranged and the surprise was complete to friends. Miss Thompson, who was a member of the Clerical force at the Post office, reported for duty as usual this morning and was at her post until 10, the hour she leaves the office and this coupled with the fact that there was no suspicion of the marriage, made the announcement unbelievable to the employees of the office. Mr. Meyer was at his work in the office of the Gunnel Tool Co., during the morning and gave no hint as to the near approach of the culmination of his hopes. Mr. Meyer and his bride are deservedly popular with a large circle of friends who appreciate their worth and the marriage will call forth congratulations and sincerest well wishes. Miss Thompson has been one of the leaders in the city's younger social set and is a young lady of attractive personality. For two years or more she has been a member of the clerical force of the Post Office and her courteous treatment and obliging manners to patrons has won her the commendation of the public. Mr. Meyer is a son of Mrs. J. Meyer, Clarks Street, and a young man whose ability and industry have won him a position in the business life of the city, as a trusted and valued employe of the Gunnel Machine Co. The young couple start the new life under most promising auspices for a happy future and many friends will hope that the promise will be fulfilled. Manitowoc Daily Herald - Thurs., Apr. 18, 1907 ***** MARRIED: Miss Ella Thompson and Herman Meyer, both of this city, were united in marriage last Thursday noon at the home of the bride on North Tenth Street, the Rev. Upon their return they will take up their residence in this city. Miss Thompson has been employed as a clerk at the post office here. Mr. Meyer, who is a son of Mrs. J.
