2. Johann Adam2 Klauck (Johann1) was born 03 June 1806 in Losheim, Rhineland, Prussia6,7,7, and died 31 December 1888 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin8,9. He married Barbara Simon 08 February 1833 in Weiskirchen, Saarland, Germany10, daughter of Michael Simon and Angelika Klasen. She was born 13 January 1811 in Weiskirchen, Rhineland, Prussia11,12, and died 01 December 1882 in Milwaukee, County, Wisconsin13. John Adam Klauck was known as Adam, according to Weiskirchen parish, US census and St. James, Mequon, Wisconsin Church records. On legal documents, such as the marriage records of sons Francis and Nicolaus, his full name is listed as "John Adam Klauck". He probably Americanized his name from the German Johann -- his name is given as the Latin Joannes Adamus Klauck in the Weiskirchen record of his marriage to Barbara Simon. There is an affidavit in the land records at the Ozaukee County, Wisconsin Register of Deed Office wherein Adam Klauck, Jr. swears that John Adam Klauck, Adam Klauck, and Adam Klauck, Sr. are one and the same persons. John Adam's will so states as well. John Adam Klauck filed a preemption land claim 3 August 1843 in Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, the price is $50. The land is at "the North East quarter of the South West quarter of Section 30, in township 9 north of range 22 east, containing 40 acres". This places the land south of present day West Sunnydale Lane and west of North Oriole Lane (if it continued south after intersecting West Sunnydale Lane); about a half mile south of Mequon Road (highway 167) and about a half mile west of Interstate 43. Adam "Kauck" is listed as arriving with Barbara, "Jean"[John], Peter, and Mathias at the Port of New York, New York aboard the ship American from [Le] Havre [France] 10 July 1843. A few names up the passenger list is "Anna Klausen", Mathias, Nicolas, and Franz -- John Adam Klauck's mother-in-law was sometimes identified by her maiden name (Klasen, Klassen, Clasen, etc.), as she was widowed by that time. Adam Glauck [Klauck] 74, and wife Barbara 69, were living at 320 Lloyd Street in Milwaukee Wisconsin at the time of the 1880 Census. Children of Johann Klauck and Barbara Simon are: + 3 i. 3. John3 Klauck, Sr. (Johann Adam2, Johann1)23,24 was born 11 November 1833 in Weiskirchen, Rhineland, Prussia24, and died 29 January 1917 in Kiel, Wisconsin25. She was born 17 October 1838 in Thailen, Rhineland, Prussia28, and died 19 January 1907 in Kiel, Manitowoc Co, Wisconsin29,30. John was a farmer in Mequon, Wisconsin until he moved his family to Kiel, Wisconsin in 1877. He bought 80 acres of land in the north east corner of section 30, Town of Schleswig (north half of the northeast quarter of section 30, township 17 north, range 21 east). Section 30 is now occupied entirely by the city of Kiel, Wisconsin. Family tradition has it he was blind in his last 25 years of life, had diabetes, and walked with the help of a cane. John Klauck died on 29 January 1917 of diabetes mellitus, and is buried in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Kiel, Wisconsin. The first Catholic mass in the Mequon, Wisconsin area was celebrated in May, 1842 in the home of Peter Backes, Maria's father. His property was located at the northwest corner of present day Mequon and Range Line Roads. On 21 February 1844, Peter and Margaretha Backes transferred 2 acres of E1/2, SE1/4, sect. 24, T9N, R21E to Peter Barth, trustee St. James Church, for $1.00. (Recorded vol. B of Deeds, p. 36.) The site of the present day St. James Catholic Church. On 19 February 1848, Peter Barth transferred the same land back to Peter Backes, who immediately transferred the deed to the Milwaukee Archdiocese for the use of St. James Congregation. The parish record of Peter Backes' death notes that he was a founder of the congregation. Maria died of "acute dilation of the heart" brought on by "valvular heart disease", 19 January 1907 and is buried at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Kiel, Wisconsin. Family “lore’ says Maria was born in Königsberg or Königsreich.
