RONIE WANDRASH After an illness of twenty four hours Mrs. Joseph Wondrash of Two Rivers died of heart trouble. She was 35/36? years of age and is survived by her husband and two children. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Wandrey, nee Theresa Ladwig, was born Jan. 28, 1892, at Windgaumuehle, Germany, daughter of the late Eduard and Caroline Kopicshke Ladwig. She came to the United States as a young girl, residing at Gillette, Wis. She was married to Alvin Wandrey Aug. 2, 1923, at Waukegan, Ill. Her husband preceded her in death in 1935. She came to Manitowoc to reside in 1951. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) AUGUST WANDTKE cemetery #89A AUGUST WANDTKE DIES SUDDENLY August Julius Wandtke, died suddenly at his home in this city, last Wednesday morning, after an illness of only a few days. The deceased was born in Pummern, Germany, December 29, 1868. He came to America 23 years ago and settled at Manitowoc where he was employed in a meat market. In August 1895 he was married at Manitowoc to Emile Schmidt. Thirteen years later he came to this city where he purchased a meat market which he conducted ever since. August Wandtke had many friends and was well known in all parts of the county. He had a reputation for honest dealing. He was a pleasant, good natured gentleman and always stood ready to lend assistance to those in distress. He was progressive and loyal and took an active part in many things that helped to improve the city. August Wandtke is survived by a wife and one brother, Bernard, a former resident of this city, also three sisters and three brothers who reside in Germany. The funeral took place on Saturday from the residence. The ceremonies were conducted by the Odd Fellows and the sermon was delivered by Rev. Morris. The Chronicle, Two Rivers, Tuesday, July 2, 1912

JOHN WANEK cemetery #44 ANOTHER OF OLD SETTLERS CALLED TO REST John Wanek, 71, Passes Away at Home of His Son Last Night John Wanek, a pioneer settler of the county, died at home of his son, Joseph Wanek, on the Town Line road last night at the advanced age of 71. Death was due to infirmities of age, Mr. Wanek having been ill only a short time. Mr. Wanek is survived by his widow and one son, John and a daughter Mrs. Krolowitz of Sheboygan. CHRISTINA WANIE cemetery #16 Mrs. Christine Wanie, 79, of 912 Center St., Racine, died Saturday evening at a hospital there. She had suffered a stroke Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with the Rev. Peter Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born Nov. 7, 1883, in the Town of Franklin, Kewaunee County, daughter of the late John and Dora Kvitek Raislager. She was married Sept. 5, 1905, to Andrew Wanie at Stangelville. The couple farmed in the Bolt area many years. She was a member of the St. Catherine Rosary Society. Her husband died 42 years ago. Among survivors are two sons, Ralph, of Milwaukee and Bernard of Horicon; a daughter, Mrs. William Cisler, of Rt. 1, Denmark; a brother, Joseph, of Stangelville and a sister, Mrs. Mary Krummel, of Stangelville; eight grand- children and 17 great grandchildren. BERNARD WANIGER cemetery #77 Bernard (Bud) Waniger, 57, of Collins, died Thursday evening at home. Funeral services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Reedsville. The Rev. John Neuser will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Waniger was born Feb. 11, 1915, in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Joseph and Theresa Brunner Waniger. He married Christina Kalista Sept. 1, 1938, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Reedsville. He owned and operated a tavern in Collins since 1947. He was a member of Manitowoc County Tavern League, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 706 and Collins Fire Dept. DARREL J. WANIGER cemetery #44 Darrel J. (Bud) Waniger, 48, of 1221 S. 26th St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Tuesday at the family residence of a coronary. Mr. Waniger was born Aug. 14, 1924, at Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph W. and Esther Krumm Waniger. He married Shirley Mae Lehman Feb. 16, 1945, at Manitowoc. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy, and a retired chief petty officer. He had been employed at Mirro Aluminum Co., Manitowoc. He was a member of the VFW Post, Manitowoc, an honorary deputy sheriff, past president of Clipper City Shipmates and past president and member of Royal Knights Drum and Bugle Corp. ESTHER WANIGER cemetery #33 Mrs. Esther (Molly) Waniger, 69, of Rt. 2, Two Rivers, died Saturday at Shawano. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Thaddeus J. Koszarek will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mrs. Waniger, nee Esther Krumm, was born May 15, 1902, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Charles and Caroline Kasten Krumm. She was employed at National Tinsel Co., Manitowoc for 25 years. She retired in 1971. She was married to Joseph W. Waniger Nov. 21, 1922, at Alverno. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary. Her husband preceded her in death March 1, 1963. Survivors include two daughters, a brother, Darrel, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Thielen, of Manitowoc; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death. FRANCESCA WANIGER cemetery #47 DEATH CLAIMS OLD RESIDENT Services For Mrs. Waniger, 96, To Be Held Saturday Mrs. Francesca Waniger, 96, a resident of the county for 75 years, died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Vogel, 2106 Clark street. She has made her home with Mrs. Vogel for two years. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9 O'clock from the St. Joseph's Catholic church, Silver Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born In Germany Mrs. Waniger, whose maiden name was Francesca Schumberger, was born in Germany in 1840 and was married there to Joseph Waniger. The latter came to this country in 1861 and located on the Tannery road near Two Rivers. Mrs. Waniger joined him shortly and after a time they purchased a farm at Manitowoc Rapids which they operated for years. Mr. Waniger died in 1899 and Mrs. Waniger continued to make her home on the homestead until two years ago when she came to this city. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Vogel, city; a son, Joseph, Route 4, Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Waniger was a member of the St. Ann's Christian Mothers of Silver Lake. The body may be viewed at the Pfeffer funeral home. Wednesday, March 31, 1937
JOSEPH WANIGER cemetery #43 Joseph Waniger, Sr., 72, retired farmer, died Saturday at the home farm, Manitowoc route 4, now operated by his son, William. Death followed a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 from the Pfeffer funeral parlors and at nine o'clock from the St. Joseph's church, Silver Lake, the Rev. Specht officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Waniger was born in Germany on June 6, 1865. He came to America and to Manitowoc county with his parents when he was two years of age. On November 24, 1891, he was married to Theresa Brunner, who survives. Survivors besides the widow include three daughters, Mrs. Agnes Kaufmann and Mrs. Isadore Simon, both of Manitowoc, and Mrs. William Wolf, Des Plaines, Ill., nine sons, Willliam, at home, and Joseph Jr., Frank, Martin, Leo, Edward, Arthur, Bernard and Adrian, all of Manitowoc; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Vogel, Manitowoc; and 24 grandchildren. CATHERINE WANISH cemetery #16 MRS. C. WANISH DIES AT HOME IN COOPERSTOWN Conducted General Store There, For 20 Years Following the Death of Husband Mrs. Catherine Wanish, aged 60 years, widow of the late John F. Wanish, and who since the death of her husband twenty years ago has conducted the general store at Cooperstown, passed away this morning. It was just five years ago today that Mrs. Wanish suffered a stroke, and she has been an invalid since that time. Her maiden name was Caherine Cenefels, and she was born at Kellnersville. Married to John F. Wanish forty years ago they located at Cooperstown, where a general store was opened which was conducted since that time, first by Mr. Wanish and on his death by his wife and children. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock, from the St. James church at Cooperstown, with interment in the cemetery there. Ten Children Survive A family of ten children survive. There are seven daughter (sic), Mrs. A.H. Soden, Saxon, Wis.,; Mrs. Patrick Melody, Cooperstown; Miss Elizabeth Wanish, Evanston; Mary of Seligmand, Ariz.; and Clara Katherine and Chloe at home. There are three sons, Charles and Alex at Denmark and Thomas at Catawaba, Wis., one brother, Joseph Cenefels of Cooperstown and two sisters, Mrs. J.J. Stangel of Hillsboro, Ore., and Sister M. FRANK WANISH cemetery #16 From Der Nord Westen, 04 Oct. 1906: After a long illness FRANK WANISCH died last Thursday in Holy Family Hospital here. He was a resident of Cooperstown where he has operated a store for many years. He was born in Bohemia, but came to this country as a boy. He leaves 6 children. The body was taken to Cooperstown and buried there Saturday.
MARGARET WANISH cemetery #26 Mrs. John Wanish, 81, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Shanda of Kellnersville. She had been ill about three months. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Husar funeral home in Kellnersville and at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic church, the Rev. Frank Svatek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wanish, nee Margaret Wachal, was born in 1866 in Franklin and in 1884 was married to John Wanish, and they moved to a farm in Franklin. He died 14 years ago. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Shanda of Kellnersville and Mrs. Edward Opichka of Manitowoc; two sons, Joseph of Maribel and John of Menchalville; two sisters, Mrs. Matt Shanda and Mrs. Joseph Malley; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Fitch, Mrs. M.M. Warbasse, widow of the late John J. Warbasse, in the seventy-sixth year of her age. Mrs. Warbasse was an occasional resident with her children, while here, for some twenty years and esteemed by all who made her acquaintance, to be a lady of the highest qualifications as a faithful, christian mother, of which the best evidence are her own daughters, three of whom have been among us for many years, honored and beloved by our whole community. May the memory of the departed ever be an incentive for higher exertion, to become like her and thus secure the sweet assurance of again meeting and forever being with her among the angels in Heaven.

WARNKE cemetery #84 Adolph Warnke of Kiel Summoned; Funeral Monday Kiel. – (Special) – Adolph Warnke, 73, of 627 Calumet drive, this city, died at Memorial hospital, Sheboygan, at 4:30 a.m. today. He had been confined at the hospital since Oct. 13. Mr. Warnke was born March 23, 1868, in Germany, and came to Milwaukee in 1892. Three years later he moved to Kiel to make his home. He married Wilhelmina Backhaus of Kiel on Dec. 26, 1898, at the present home. Survivors are his wife, a son, Alfred, at home, a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Selma) Rach, of Kiel, a grandson, James Rach, two sisters, one in Germany and the other, Mrs. Emma Vorphal, near Kiel. A sister and a brother in Germany preceded him in death. He had been employed for 30 years at the Kiel Woodenware company, and retired several years ago. He was a member of the senior choir of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church for many years. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, and at 2 o’clock at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. E. L. A brief service at the Meiselwitz Funeral home was followed by another at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. The senior choir of the church, of which the deceased was a member, sang “Jesu, geh’ voran,” “Harre, meine Selle” and “Im Herrn entschlummert.” Mrs. A. Roland Griebenow was organ accompanist. ALFRED WARNKE cemetery #84 Alfred Warnke, 63, of 527 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died unexpectedly at his home early Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack. A native of Kiel and long time employee of the Kiel Wooden Ware Co., Mr. Warnke was born Jan. 24, 1902, a son of the late Adolph and Minnie Warnke. Following graduation from Kiel High School in 1920, he went to work for the Wooden Ware Co., continuing there ever since. He had been at work in the maintenance department last week. He married Elsie Rehm of New Holstein, Oct. 5, 1929. Mr. Warnke formerly was active in the Kiel Volunteer Fire Department, attaining the rank of assistant chief. He was also former recording secretary of the State Firemen’s Association. Surviving are his wife and a sister, Mrs. Leo Rach, Kiel. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, of which he was a lifelong member, having been baptized and confirmed there. Officiating will be the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, with burial in Schleswig Cemetery at Rockville. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel this evening, until 11 a.m. Tuesday and from noon at the church. HENRY WARNKE cemetery #44 PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES EARLY TODAY Henry Warneke, 77, Victim of Short Illness LIVED IN COUNTY FOR 60 YEARS Henry Warnke, one of the pioneer residents of Manitowoc county, having made his home here for upwards of sixty years, died at the Holy Family hospital as a result of an attack of appendicitis. The body has been taken to the home of Mr. Warnke’s son in law, Christ Nauman, near Rapids and funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the Rev. Karl Machmiller officiating. Mr. Warnke was 77 years of age and was well known in the city and county. He is survived by a widow and three children, Mrs. Charles Hacker, Mrs. C. Lippert, this city, and Mrs. C. Naumann, of Rapids. Owing to the advanced age of Mr. Warnke he was unable to withstand the shock of an operation. A short time ago she had gone to Milwaukee for an operation to remove a large tumor. Since then she had often mentioned the desire to end her life. MINNIE WARNKE cemetery #84 Mrs. Adolph Warnke, 77, lifelong resident of Kiel, died at her home, 620 Calumet Drive, early Tuesday afternoon following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. Mrs. Warnke, the former Minnie Backhaus, was born April 4, 1877, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Backhaus, pioneer Kiel settlers. She received her education in schools of the city and was married to Adolph Warnke Dec. 26, 1898. He died in October of 1941. Mrs. Warnke was an active member of the church, the church choir, the FrauenVerein and a past member of the Missionary Society. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leo Rach, and a son, Alfred, of Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Fred Luebke of Two Rivers; and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. He was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Manitowoc, sone of the late Lewis E. and Rose Pilger Warren. Gene was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1938. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps from 1938 to 1945 serving in the South Pacific Theatre with the 5th Air Force. On November 17, 1945, he marred the former Betty Jagemann. The couple just celebrated their 55th Wedding anniversary. Gene was employed with Dayco Company, formerly Imperial Eastman of Manitowoc for over 25 years, retiring in 1984. he was a 45 year member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #687. She came to America with her parents when she was still a young girl. She was married to Charles Wascher, pioneer resident of Manitowoc and after a few years residence in Manitowoc the couple came to this city and resided at 1411 Hawthorne avenue. Since the death of her husband several years ago she has made her home with her daughter in Manitowoc. Survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Koch; two sons, Charles, Toledo, Ohio, and Arthur, Milwaukee. Kiel. -Emil Watry, aged 39, a resident of Kiel for the past several years, passed away at the State hospital at Madison, Saturday, at 3 a.m., where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Mr. Watry had undergone an operation which proved fatal. The deceased, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Watry, was born in the town of Stockbridge, on September 9, 1894. He was married to Miss Mathilda Grewe of Chilton, February 26, 1919, and the couple located on a farm in the town of Stockbridge, where they resided for 8 years. In 1927, they sold the farm and moved to Kiel where Mr. Watry was in the employ of the Kiel Wooden Ware company. To the couple were born two daughters. Survivors are his wife, two daughters, age 14, age 12 (names omitted for privacy); his father, Dominic Watry of Stockbridge; three sisters, Mrs. Mathias Schaefer, of Stockbridge; Mrs. Theodore Jacky of Brothertown, and Mrs. John E. EVELYN WATSON cemetery #32 Evelyn F. Watson, age 84, a resident of The Rosebud Manor, Valders, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Aurora Hospital, Two Rivers. She was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie (Herwig) Holzschuh. Evelyn was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1941. She married Vance Watson in June of 1951 in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 1988. Evelyn was a manager at Del-Ray Mobile Home Park in Anaheim, Calif., retiring in 1987. The couple then moved and retired to Parker, Aria. before Evelyn moved back to Valders, in August 2005. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was also preceded in death by a son: Duke Watson in 1980; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Raymond and Ann Holzschuh and William and LaVerne Holzschuh; and four sisters and brothers-in-law: Adeline and Eugene MacDonald; Loretta and Ulrich Braasch; Dorothy and Quirin Swoboda; and Leona and Roland Specht. JOHN B. WATSON cemetery #44 John B. Watson, 79, of 718 N. 8th St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. George Knudson will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Vetrans of Foreign Wars Post No. 659. Mr. Watson was born Sept. 21, 1891, at Bishopbriggs Govan Parish, Glasgow, Scotland. He received his education in Scotland and served his apprenticeship as a pattern maker at Fairfield Shipyards, Glosgow. He came to the United States in 1912, locating in Schenectady, N.Y., where he worked as a pattern maker in various shops. He served in World War I entering the service Aug. 26, 1918. He served in France and was discharged in February of 1919. He received his American citizenship at Atlanta, Ga., in 1918. After World War I he had been employed in Detroit and Pontiac, Mich., as a pattern department superintendent and foundry superintendent until coming to Manitowoc in 1941. During World War II he taught pattern making, blueprint reading and shop fitting at Manitowoc Vocational School until 1943. In 1944 he went to Waukesha where he was production engineer at the General Malleable Corp. until 1945. He then returned to Manitowoc where he married Agnes Gunderson Jan. 27, 1945. He operated the A and J Pattern Shop until 1947. Prior to his retirement in 1956 he worked at model making in various shops at Fond du Lac, Waukesha and Milwaukee. Mr. Watson was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, the Men's Brotherhood of the church, the Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 2565, the Masonic Lodge of Painted Post No. 168 of New York, and the Madison Scottish Rite Consistory. Survivors include his wife, a brother, David, of Pinellas Park, Fla., a sister, Mrs. Walter (Jean) Scott, of Scotland, a niece and a grand niece. Watson, 76, of 1708 20th street, Two Rivers, former circulation employe of papers in the state, died this mroning of a heart attack while seated in a chair at his home. He was born at Tomah, Wis., in 1870 and when a young man learned the printer trade. He was operator of the Plymouth Reporter, a weekly, for some years. Later he was employed by the circulation departments of the Herald-Times and Two Rivers Reporter. He had lived in Two Rivers since 1933, having been retired in recent years. He was first married to Nell Finnegan, who died in 1898. Later he married Miss Clara Scheib of Plymouth. She survives with two daughters, Mrs. A.L. Vogel of this city and Mrs. Nels Peters of San Fernando, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. James church, the Rev. F.C. St. Clair officiating. Watt of Maple Grove, death occuring at Milwaukee where she made her home with her son, Dr. Edward Watt. Death came to Mrs. Watt this morning. The funeral will be held at Maple Grove on Friday, the remains being shipped from Milwaukee tomorrow. Mrs. Watt went to Milwaukee to make her home after the store which she and her husband conducted at the Grove was sold to Tom Doolan. Besides her son, two daughters will mourn her loss. BERTHA A. WATTAWA cemetery #43 Mrs. Thomas Wattawa, 72, of 1117 S. 17th St., Manitowoc, died Monday at home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. John Hephner will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Wattawa, nee Bertha Isselmann, was born Dec. 4, 1899, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Lenz Isselmann. She resided in Manitowoc all her life where she was married to Thomas J. Wattawa June 21, 1922, at St. Boniface Church. Her husband preceded her in death May 22, 1962. Mrs. Wattawa was a member of the St. Ann Christian Mothers Altar Society of the church. Survivors include two daughters (Survivors omitted for privacy.); two brothers, George, of Glenn Rock, N.J., and Edward, of Landsdowne, Penn., two sisters, Mrs. Richard Bodwin and Mrs. Norbert Lettenberger of Manitowoc and four grandchildren. CLARA WATTAWA cemetery #43 FUNERAL OF MRS. WATTAWA HELD MONDAY Mrs. Frank Wattawa, who died at Milwaukee at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at Trinity Hospital, and whose body will be brought here Sunday morning over the Chicago and North Western was born in this city March 10, 1887, and was thirty-seven years of age. She was a daughter of Louis Rank, Sr. And was married here to Frank Wattawa fifteen years ago. The family made its home here up until nine years ago when the moved to Milwaukee where they have since resided and where Mr. Rank had made his home with the family. She is survived by her husband, one son, Ellsworth, her father, three brothers, Louis Rank, Jr. of this city, John and Joseph Rank of Milwaukee and by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Naus of Waukesha and Mrs. Kate Mangin of Milwaukee. The funeral will be held from the Urbanek & Wattawa chapel to which the body will be taken, Monday morning services at St. Boniface Catholic church at 9 o’clock and burial will be at Calvary. EMMA WATTAWA cemetery #44 Mrs. Joseph Emma Wattawa, 86, of 932 N. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening at Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc. Complete funeral arrangements will be announced Tuesday by the Schneider- Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Mrs. Wattawa, nee Emma Bremer, was born April 28, 1884, in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bremer. She was married to Joseph L. Wattawa Jan. 25, 1912, at Manitowoc. The couple owned and operated the original Wattawa funeral Home and furniture store, later to become Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home. They retired in 1945. MARGARET (MEYER) WATTAWA cemetery #44 Mrs. Wattawa Is Dead at 67 Mrs. Margaret Wattawa, 67, mother of Miss Lorraine Wattawa, librarian, died suddenly early this morning at her apartment, 812 Washington street. The heart attack was induced by the heat of the past 48 hours. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9 o'clock at the St. Boniface church, the Rev. Alfred Pritzl officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Wattawa was born Margaret Meyer in this city, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Meyer. Her father was a pioneer Washington street hardware merchant. She was formerly married to John Wattawa, who died two years ago. She was a member of the St. Boniface congregation. Survivors are a daughter, Lorraine Margaret, circulation librarian at the city library on North Eighth street, who made her home with her mother; brother, Oscar of this city; two sisters, Miss A. ROBERT WATTS cemetery #44 OLD RESIDENT, VETERAN OF THE CIVIL WAR, DIES Robert Watts, an old resident of the city, died at his home on Chicago street Sunday night at the advanced age of 78 years. Mrs. Watts is a patient at the hospital, suffering from injuries he received in a fall recently. Mr. Watts was a veteran of the civil war having served as a member of Co. G. 39th Wisconsin. Surviving Mr. Watts is a widow and four children. The Rev. George Watts, rector of St. Peters church, Columbia, Tenn., Miss Nettie Watts, assistant city librarian, Joseph Watts, who is serving in the regular army and stationed in Massachusetts and Mrs. L.C. Churchhill of Windom, Minn. One sister, Miss Elizabeth Watts of Milwaukee, also survives. MARY LINDSAY WAY cemetery #82 Mrs. Mary Lindsay Way, 58, of 234 5th St., Kiel, died Monday night at her home. Born March 7, 1910 in New Holstein, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Mary Elliott Lindsay. The family moved to Kiel where she graduated from Kiel High School in 1926. She attended St. Mary’s of the Woods in Indiana and later the University of Wisconsin where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. On May 2, 1932, she married Kenneth Way of Manitowoc. The couple lived in South Milwaukee for 10 years and moved to Kirkwood, Mo., where she was active in hospital auxiliary work. Mrs. Way wrote a book on hospital auxiliary work with material from the book featured in national publications. She also received a federal government citation for her work in Civil Defense. She returned to Kiel to make her home in 1963. For the past 10 months she was assistant librarian at the New Holstein Public Library. She was a member of the Plymouth DAR and Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Survivors include one daughter, a son, six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. M. J. Schulenburg of Appleton. (Survivors edited for privacy) Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, as celebrant of the requiem Mass. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, from 4 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The parish rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Way’s name for the International Eye Foundation. JULIANA WAYER cemetery #43a Mrs. John Wayer, wife of Patrolman John Wayer of the police department, died at the hospital on Sunday, giving her life as a result of influenza from which she suffered for a week or more. The funeral will be held from the late home, 2316 Marshal street, to St. Mary’s, Thursday morning. Besides her husband Mrs. Wayer is survived by a family of children. Deceased was a sister of Matt Muhowsky, of Clover and was born at Newton. JOHN WAZNY cemetery #43a John A. Wazny, 57, of 1504 South 23rd St., Manitowoc, a veteran of World War I, died Wednesday morning at the Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Edward Nowakowski will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The American Legion will conduct rites at the grave. He was born in Poland in 1896 and came to the United States at an early age settling in Toledo, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in World War I and came to Manitowoc 25 years ago. In 1949 he married Miss Mary Bialozynski. He was employed at the Invincible Metal Furniture Company and was a member of the American Legion.
