AUGUST H. SPAETH cemetery #89B Funeral services for August F. Spaeth, 85, of Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc, former Two Rivers resident, who died Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Klein & Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, the Rev. Robert Rhyner officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Spaeth was born Sept. 30, 1887, at Two Rivers, son of the late August and Ottilia Wachtel Spaeth. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Riem, of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Elmer, of Warrenville, Ill., and Earl, of Tucson; a sister, Mrs. Donald Bachman, of Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. EMMA SPAETH cemetery #47 Mrs. Henry Spaeth, 74 lifelong resident of the county, died early today at her farm home in the town of Cato, operated by her son, Henry. She had been ill a year. Funeral services will be held Turedsay at 9 a.m. from the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9:30 o'clock from the St. Josephs Catholic church at Silver Lake, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Spaeth, nee Emma Ebert, was born in Cato in 1866 and in 1888 was married to Henry Spaeth. They located on a farm in Newton. Mr. Spaeth died 10 years ago. For the past three years she has resided in Cato. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. John Wimmer of route 1, Manitowoc; son, Henry, of Cato; two brothers, Jacob Ebert of Franklin, Joseph Ebert of Marshfield; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, who will meet at the funeral home Monday nght at 8 o'clock to recite the rosary. SPAETH DEATH TODAY Ann Arbor Employe Will Be Buried On Thursday Joseph Spaeth, 51, for 23 years a clerk at the Ann Arbor offices in this city, died this morning at the home, 422 North Ninth street. Although not in the best of health for several months, he continued at his duties until New Year's day. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Sacred Heart church. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. The deceased was born in Two Rivers 51 years ago and 30 years ago came to this city. He was married to Miss Christine Halverson at Two Rivers, October 19, 1904. Mr. Spaeth entered the employ of the Ann Arbor railroad here nearly 24 years ago, and has been with that company ever since. Survivors are his widow, a son Chester; a brother August, Two Rivers; two sisters, Mrs. James Van Sleet, Two Rivers and Mrs. Anna Bachman, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a mother, Mrs. Joseph Wolf, also of Los Angeles. MICHAEL LEE SPAETH cemetery #44 Michael Lee Spaeth, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard F. Spaeth, of 1024 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at Southern Wisconsin Colony, Union Grove, where he had been a patient seven months. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Alfred Pritzl will officiate at the Mass of Angels and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Michael was born at Manitowoc Aug. 22, 1957. His mother is the former Dolores H. Dupras. Surviving are his parents, a brother (private), paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Spaeth, and maternal grandfather, Julius Dupras, of Manitowoc. SR. M. CLEOPHA SPAHN cemetery #46 Sister M. Cleopha Spahn, 88, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon at the convent. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Convent Chapel, the Rev. Ferdinand Dupont, O. Praem, officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Sister Cleopha, nee Mary Spahn, was born Aug. 24, 1885, at Sevastopol, Wis., daughter of the late William and Sabina Hagemann Spahn. She entered the Order of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in 1905, professing her vows in 1909. She taught in schools in Oshkosh, Manitowoc, Waukesha, Sherwood, Oneida and New Holstein, in Delaware, Ohio, Menominee, Mich., and West Point, Neb. Surviving is a sister, Miss Rose Spahn, of Sturgeon Bay. Friends may call at Holy Family Convent from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday morning until time of service. GOTTFRIED SPANN, SR. cemetery #85 Obituary 1913 - Mr. Gottfried Spann Sr On Thursday night, Mr. Gottfried Spann Sr. died at the house of his son Gottfried on the Plankroad in the Town of Schleswig. He had been suffering from cancer of the face for many years. The deceased who had lived in the town for many years was born in Germany. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters. The burial was on Monday afternoon at the Ucker Cemetery and Pastor Hauser conducted the service.


MARY SPANN cemetery #85 Miss Mary Spann, 74, lifelong resident of the county, died at the Holy Family hospital, where she had been a patient. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the farm home on Highway 32 in Eaton. Interment will be in the Uecker cemetery, near Kiel. Miss Spann, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Spann was born in Schleswig and always resided on the homestead farm in Eaton. Miss Spann was born January 26, 1864, in Schleswig township, and came to Eaton township three years ago. LORRAINE SPATCHEK cemetery #44 Lorraine Spatchek, age 86, of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2008, at her residence. Lorraine was born on Dec. 9, 1921, in Chilton. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Ida (Behlow) Peik. In past years, Lorraine had been employed with White House Milk Company, Penguin Restaurant and Bud Willman's Restaurant. On Feb. 21, 1939, she married Arnold S. Spatchek in Hilbert. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1995. Lorraine was a member of St. Francis of Assisi. For many years she was well known for her Christmas decorating of her home during the Christmas holidays. She loved her family reunions and also doing crafts with her daughter. She is survived by three daughters and four sons-in-law, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces; nephews. Many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold on May 10, 1995; one daughter: Mary Jane Sittman on Sept. 14, 2002; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand. The Rev. Gerald Foley will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery with committal prayers being lead by her son-in-law. The deceased, who reached the advanced age of 83, was born in Bavaria but spent the last 50 yrs. or so in this country. She leaves her husband, a daughter and 4 sons. The funeral was held yesterday in the cemetery at Silver Lake.


AUG. SPECHT cemetery #63 From Der Nord Westen, 10 Sep. 1908: (From the correspondent in Mishicott, 08 Sep.) Mr. A. Specht, about whose illness we had earlier reported, closed his eyes in the final sleep on Friday afternoon and was buried Monday in a very large funeral with military honors. He is survived by his sorrowing widow, 3 sons and 3 daughters. The sons are - Theodor in Manitowoc, Robert, here, and August in Fond du Lac. The daughters are Mrs. Wm. Mueller, and Mrs. Robert Steltzer here, and Mrs. John P. Schmidt in Milwaukee. He is also survived by several grand and great-grandchildren. Mr. Specht and his family lived here for many years and made a host of friends. He was a good husband and loving father who enjoyed the admiration of everyone. The deceased, born Laura Kreaser, was born 13 July 1876 in Cooperstown and was married 17 January 1894 with Hermann Specht whom she leaves with one son. SPECHT ON THURSDAY Widow of Herman Specht, Rockwood, Dies at Hospital; Rites Monday Mrs. Lydia Specht, 71, widow of the late Herman Specht, pioneer Kossuth farmer, died Thursday noon at the Municipal hospital here, following an operation a week ago. Mrs. Specht, who resided with her only son, Edwin A., on the home farm, just north of the village of Rockwood, on Highway 141, had been in ill health for several months. Funeral Monday Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Evangelical church in this city, with burial in Evergreen cemetery in the town of Kossuth. Services will be conducted by the Rev. William C.F. Hayes. The body is at the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home and may be viewed there from 7 o'clock Saturday evening. It will be taken to the church at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Nee Lydia Krieser, Mrs. Specht was born on the Cooperstown farm of her parents, August and Wilhelmine Worm Krieser, Feb. 26, 1875. She was married to Herman Specht of Rockwood on April 10, 1912. The couple settled on the farm near Rockwood, where they resided until Mr. Specht's death the past June. One Son Survives Only one child, Edwin A., was born to the couple. He survives, along with three grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, John Krieser of Milbank, S.D., Ben of Long Beach, Calif., Arnold of Maribel, and Ray W. of Manitowoc. MARGARET SPECHT cemetery #89C Mrs. Margaret Specht, 76, of 2227-14th St., Two Rivers, died Saturday morning at Shady Lane Home, Manitowoc, where she had been a resident a short time. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery. Mrs. Specht, nee Margaret Greenwood, was born in the Town of Gibson, Dec. 12, 1894, a daughter of the late Henry and Augustine Roullier Greenwood. She was married Feb. 6, 1918, in the Town of Kossuth, to Edwin Specht. The family moved to Two Rivers in 1946 where Mr. Specht died July 2, 1963. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Neil (Sally) Kinsey of Fish Creek, Wis.; two sons, Raymond of Stevens Point, a professor at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Milton Specht of Manitowoc; three sisters, Sister M. SARAH E. SPENCER cemetery #44 Mrs. William H. Spencer, 82, (photo) lifelong resident of the county, died Sunday at the homestead farm in Kossuth. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., from the Frazier mortuary chapel, the Rev. Victor Nearhoof of the St. Paul's M.E. church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Spencer, nee Sarah Emma Fulton, was born in Kossuth in 1858 and in 1878 was married to William H. Spencer. They took up their residence on the present homestead, the Meadowbrook farm, where Mr. Spencer in addition to operating the farm, helped organize and manage a rural phone line, the Francis Creek bank, practiced as a veterinary, was a school director and town chairman. In December, 1938, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage. Survivors are the widower; son, William J. Spencer of Saginaw, Mich.; daughter, Mrs. G.W. WILLIAM SPENCER cemetery #44 William H. Spencer, 86, (photo) lifelong resident of Meadowbrook Farm in the town of Kossuth, about eight miles north of Manitowoc, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.W. Hay, in Green Bay. Mr. Spencer had been with his daughter for several months, going there a short time after Mrs. Spencer's death last spring. The body has been brought to Manitowoc, and funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Frazier Mortuary Chapel, the Rev. V.T. Nearhoof of St Paul's Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr. Spencer, who served in public office as chairman of the town of Kossuth, justice of the peace, school director, director of the State Bank of Francis Creek and president of the Manitowoc and Northern Telephone Company, was a farmer and veterinary surgeon. He helped in the organization of the State Bank of Francis Creek and continued as a director for a number of years. His period of service as town chairman extended over 12 years, and for more than 30 years he was president of the telephone company. Born on the Meadowbrook Farm, he lived there all his life, until going to Green Bay a few months ago. He was born on January 5, 1855. His wife, Sarah Emma Fulton Spencer, was born on a neighboring farm. The couple were married in December, 1878 and continued residence on the Meadowbrook Farm. Mrs. Spencer died in April, 1940. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1928 and their 60th anniversay in 1938. Surviving Mr. Spencer, are one daughter, Mrs. Hay of Green Bay, a son, William J. Spencer of Saginaw, Mich., one grandson and two sisters, Mrs. George T. Fulton of Kaukauna and Mrs. George Albee of Manitowoc. ADOLPH SPERL cemetery #39 Adolph Sperl, 75, of Rt. 1, Cato, died Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, Reifs Mills, with graveside military rites by the Cato Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Sperl was born Sept. 1, 1894, in Town of Kossuth, son of the late Wenzel and Katherine Kirt Sperl. He was a sheet metal worker all his life. For the past 10 years he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kiel. He was a member of World War I Veterans, serving from Sept. 21, 1917, until Apr. 25, 1919. He was also a member of the Kubale-O'Connell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6179 of Cato and the World War I barracks No. 2565 of Manitowoc. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Frances Baumann, of Manitowoc, Miss Tillie Sperl, of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Julia King, of Delaware. A brother and a sister preceded him in death. AMELIA SPETTEL cemetery #83 Mrs. Henry Spettel, 77, a native of the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, passed away Monday evening at St. Nicholas hospital after an illness of six months. She had been a resident of Kiel for the past 40 years. Nee Amelia Schmitz she was born Oct. 16, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schultz. She was married to Mr. Spettel July 24, 1894 in Sheboygan and the couple lived in Sheboygan for 10 years before moving to Kiel. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1944. Survivors are her husband, three daughters, Miss Verena of Milwaukee and Mrs. James (Anna) Gollash and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske of Kiel; one grandson and two sisters, Mrs. Louis Steinberg of Kiel, and Mrs. Helen Reichert, of Manitowoc. Two daughters preceded Mrs. Spettel in death. Funeral services will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home in Kiel at 9:30 a.m. Thursday and at Ss. Peter and Paul church there at 10 a.m., the Rev. ARMELLA SPETTEL cemetery #83 The angel of death saddened the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spettel of this city last Sunday, when their youngest daughter, Armella, was taken from them. She died at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan early Sunday morning, after a brief illness with diabetes. Armella Spettel was born in Kiel, November 5, 1907, and was 15 years, 7 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. After leaving the St. Peter and Paul parochial school she attended the Kiel public school, and had finished one year in high school, when death ended her young life. She had always been well up to six months ago,when her health began to fail. She was placed under treatment of the family physician and was able to attend school up to June 6th, when it was decided to take her to the hospital at Sheboygan which she entered about a week before her death. Miss Spettel leaves to mourn her grief-stricken parents, and four sisters, Verena, Anna, Eleanor and Anita, all of Milwaukee. The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, with services at St. Peter & Paul’s church, Rev. A. Roder officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. 6-1924


CLARA SPETTEL cemetery #86 Mrs. Jacob Spettel, 85, of R. 1, Kiel, a resident of the Town of Eaton, died Friday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past week. The former Clara Strassmann, she was born Feb. 26, 1878, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Michael and Louisa Strassmann. She was married to Mr. Spettel of the Town of Schleswig on June 10, 1896. The couple spent most of their married life in the Town of Eaton and observed their 65th wedding anniversary in June, 1961. Survivors are her husband; eight daughters, Mrs. Estella Ibe of Chilton, Mrs. Walter (Elsie) Voigt, Mrs. Cecelia Schneider, Mrs. Verna Anhalt, Miss Claire Spettel, and Mrs. William (Len Doris) Buccholz Jr., all of Kiel, Mrs. Lulu Mueller of Sheboygan, Mrs. George (Viola) Vogel of New Holstein; _9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Benjamin Strassmann of rural Kiel. EDWARD J. SPETTEL cemetery #84 Death claimed Edward J. Spettel after a lingering illness, on Saturday morning at 9:15 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spettel, with whom he had been residing. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz funeral home, with Rev. E. J. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were Raymond Klauck, Peter Richart, Walter Horneck, Edward Reineck, Emil Raquet and John Rabe. Mr. Spettel was born at Franklin, Sheboygan county, on Oct. 19, 1864, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel. The family moved to the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, where Mr. Spettel married Miss Minnie Reimers in 1890. After residing on the Schleswig farm for some time the couple moved to Sheboygan, where they resided for a few years. His wife preceded him many years ago. During the past 28 years he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spettel. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Lillian) Schneider of Milwaukee; two sons, Harry of this city, and Harvey of Milwaukee; a sister, Miss Mary Spettel of Willmette, Ill., and three brohters, Henry and John of Kiel, and Jacob of the town of Eaton. ELEANOR SPETTEL cemetery #83 Miss Eleanore(sic) Spettel Dies At Home Of Parents Following Long Illness Miss Eleanore R. Spettel, age 45, formerly of Milwaukee, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the home of her parents at 705 North 7th st., Kiel. She was born in Sheboygan June 1, 1901. In 1904 at the age of 3 she came to Kiel with her parents. Attended the parochial school of Ss. Peter and Paul church in Kiel and graduated from the Kiel High school in 1919. After graduation she attended the Wisconsin Commercial Academy and Whitewater Norman in Whitewater. She taught in Cudahy for 2 years. For the last 16 years she was employed as private secretary of the Basic Industry dept. of Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spettel of Kiel; 3 sisters, Mrs. James (Anna) Gollasch and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske, both of Kiel, and Miss Verena Spettel of Milwaukee. ELSIE SPETTEL cemetery #82 Mrs. Harry J. Spettel, 74, of Kiel, died early this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital. The former Elsie Hanson was born Aug. 25, 1894, in New Holstein, a daughter of the late George and Lena (Schildhauer) Hanson. She was married to Harry Spettel of Kiel Aug. 12, 1920. Mrs. Spettel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, the United Presbyterian Women of the church, and the Kasper-Beckley- Wilkens American Legion Post Auxiliary. HENRY SPETTEL cemetery #83 Henry M. Spettel, 85, of 910 3rd St., Kiel, died late Wednesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital. His death followed a lingering illness. Born May 18, 1867, in the town of Herman, a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel, he was married to Amelia Schulz at Holy Name Church, Sheboygan, on July 24, 1894. The couple made their home in Sheboygan until 1904, when they moved to Kiel. Since his wife's death in 1949, Mrs. Spettel has resided with a daughter, Mrs. Carl Kanske at Kiel. Mr. Spettel was employed at the Kiel Woodenware Co. until his retirement in 1949. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Survivors are: three daughters, Miss Verena of Milwaukee, Mrs. James (Anne) Gollash and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske of Kiel; one grandchild; a sister, Miss Mary Spettel of Wilmette, Ill.; and two brothers, Jacob of the town of Eaton and John of the town of Schleswig. JACOB SPETTEL cemetery #86 Jacob Spettel, 93, a retired R. 1, Kiel, farmer, died unexpectedly early this morning at the Anna M. Reiss Home. He was born Nov. 1, 1871, in the Town of Meeme, a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel. He attended the district school and on June 10, 1896, was married to the former Clara Strassmann in the Town Schleswig. The couple farmed most of their lives in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County. She died in 1963. JOHN SPETTEL cemetery #20 John Spettel, 84, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died at this home early today. He had been ill for the past several years. Born Sept. 18, 1875, in the Town of Herman, he was a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel. As a youth, the family moved to the Town of Schleswig. On Oct. 23, 1900, he married the former Pauline Bosma of the Town of Eaton and the couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig until their retirement 18 years ago. The couple had been living in Kiel for the past 10 years. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1950. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Elda) Hagenow of rural Kiel; a son, Elmer of Sheboygan; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Miss Mary Spettel of Oshkosh, and one brother, Jacob of rural Kiel. MINNIE SPETTEL cemetery #84 Mrs. Edward Spettel, 71, former town of Schleswig resident, died Friday evening at the Manitowoc county asylum after a brief illness. She had been confined at the asylum here for over 30 years. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the C.J. Meiselwitz funeral home, Kiel. PAULINE SPETTEL cemetery #20 Mrs. Pauline Spettel, 90, of R.1, Kiel, widow of John, died Tuesday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she was a patient for 10 days. Born on July 10, 1883 in the Town of Eaton, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sent Bosma. She attended the Elder District School. On Oct. 23, 1900 she was married to Mr. Spettel. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Schleswig until 1941 when they retired. They later lived with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hagenow in the Kiel area. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in October, 1950. Mr. Spettel died Oct. 21, 1959. She was a charter member of the Eaton Cemetery Ladies Aid and a former member of the Better Homes Homemakers Club. ANNA SPEVACEK cemetery #66 Mrs. Anna Spevacek, 76, formerly of 1716-22nd St., Two Rivers, died early Friday morning at Park Lawn Home, Manitowoc, where she had been since Feb. 16, after being a patient at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. She had been in failing health for several months. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Klein and Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, and at 10 a.m. with a solemn requiem High Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tisch Mills, the Rev. Donald Feller the celebrant. The Revs. Rudolph Kerch, pastor of St. Lawrence Church, Stangelville, and George Beth, pastor of St. Mark Church, Two Rivers, will serve as deacon and sub-deacon, respectively. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Tisch Mills. Mrs. Spevacek, nee Anna Dufek, was born June 3, 1884, in the Town of Mishicot, daughter of the late John and Anna Dolezal Dufek. She attended District No. 7 School in the Town of Mishicot and for two years was employed at Chicago. Returning to Mishicot, she was married Jan. 9, 1906, to Vit Spevacek at St. Mary Church, Tisch Mills. The couple settled on a farm in the Town of Mishicot which it operated for 37 years. In 1943, she retired with her husband to Two Rivers where Mr. Spevacek died in 1953. After that she made her residence at St. Mary Home at Manitowoc. Mrs. Spevacek was active in the Rosary Society of St. Mary Church for many years, in 1931, she was chairman of the Ladies Diamond Jubilee Committee of that parish. Surviving Mrs. Spevacek are three sons, Clarence, of Rt. 2, Two Rivers, Adolph, of Monte Clair, Calif., and Ben, of Manitowoc; a twin sister, Mrs. Joseph Reich, of Two Rivers, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. He was born May 19, 1914, in Green Bay, son of the late Edward and Amanda Kitzerow Spevacek. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1932. On June 14, 1941, he married Ethel Brandt at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their 58th anniversary in 1999. He was employed with the Railway Express Agency for 11 years and was then employed with Hamilton Industries of Two Rivers for 29 years until his retirement in 1979. Clifford was very active with the tennis programs at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Y.M.C.A. and was a member of the Wisconsin Scale Boaters Association. EDWARD SPEVACEK cemetery #44 Edward Spevacek, 84, of 944 N. Sixth St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. George Knudson will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Spevacek was born June 10, 1886, at Marinette, son of the late Joseph and Mary Krainik Spevacek. He came to Manitowoc with his parents as a young boy where he attended schools. Following his schooling he went to Green Bay where he was employed by the Green Bay Gas Co. as a pipefitter. He married Amanda Kitzerow Sept. 10, 1910, at Green Bay. Later he returned to Manitowoc and was employed at the Wisconsin Fuel and Light Co. for a number of years. In 1921, he went to work for the Portland Cement Co. as a millwright and worked there until his retirement in 1951. Mr. Spevacek was a member of the Golden Agers of Manitowoc. His wife preceded him in death in 1957. Survivors include a son, Clifford, of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Eskridge of Manitowoc and Mrs. Blanche Anderson of Woodstock, Ill.; three grandchildren and a great grandchild. ETHEL L. SPEVACEK cemetery #44 Ethel L. Spevacek, age 92, of Manitowoc, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. Ethel was born on March 10, 1919 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Otto and Irma (Ruthmansdorfer) Brandt. She was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1937. On June 14, 1941 she married Clifford E. Spevacek at St. Boniface Parsonage. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2000. Ethel was a long time member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and the St. Theresa Society. She was an active volunteer doing sewing at Holy Family Convent for over 20 years. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law: Norman and Dorothy Brandt and George Brandt; one sister-in-law: Jean Brandt; and one brother-in-law: Robert Diedrich. SPEVACEK cemetery #89C Funeral services for John Spevacek, 80, of Rt. 1, Maribel, who died Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville. The Rev. Gervase Zanotti officiated and burial was in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Spevacek was born March 12, 1888, at Gibson, son of the late John and Marie Benda Spevacek. He married Anna Straka and settled on the homestead farm in the Town of Gibson. He farmed for 30 years retiring in 1940. The couple celebrated its 50th wedding anniversary in 1963. Survivors include his wife; a son, Stanley, of Rt. 1, Maribel; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Evelyn) Shimanek, of Manitowoc, a brother, Joseph, of Green Bay and four grandchildren. SPEVACEK RITES MONDAY 81-Year-Old Woman Was In County 77 Years Mrs. Mary Spevacek 81, nee Mary Krainik, 1113 New York Avenue, died here Wednesday following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the home, the Rev. C. H. Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The deceased was born December 26, 1852 in Bohemia. She came to this country at the age of four years and settled with her parents in the town of Kossuth. About 57 years ago she was marred to Joseph Spevacek, who preceded her in death eight years ago. Survivors include three sons, Harold, Edward and Emil of this city; five daughters, Libby and Emma of Manitowoc, Mrs. Christ Anderson of Woodstock, Ill, Mrs. Frank Eskridge of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Henry Neideffer of Chicago. Mr. Spevachek was born July 17, 1896, at Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Mary Krainik Spevacek. He attended local schools, worked at the old boiler factory and Braunel Plumbing Co., before working for the Soo Line Railroad, which lasted a half century. He was freight house foreman and later switchman. He married Ida Marks Jan. 24. 1921, at Janesville, and the couple returned to Manitowoc to live. He retired in 1957.
