ALBERT E. SCHULZ cemetery #90 EXTRA! Farmer Is Killed By Dynamite Kiel—(Special)—Albert E. Schulz, 59, Route 1, Elkhart Lake, was fatally injured on his farm home Friday afternoon when two sticks of dynamite that had failed to explode went off as he was inspecting them. He and his hired man, Henry Luedke, had been blasting stumps in a field at the time of the accident. Coroner Harry Heiden said today that the dynamite had two fuses, and that one must have ignited while the other did not. After the blast Mr. Schulz arose, walked 20 feet, and then dropped over dead, according to Dr. Heiden. Death resulted from chest and other internal injuries caused by flying roots. The farm on which the accident occurred is situated in the town of Herman eight miles east of Kiel and one and one-half miles northeast of Ada. Mr. Schulz was born August 2, 1877, on the farm homestead where he was killed. He was married to Miss Sophie Schneider of the town of Herman, and the couple have always lived on the homestead. Survivors are the widow; seven daughters, Mrs. August Bedow of West Bend, Mrs. Carl Johnson and Mrs. Henry Wahlgren of Milwaukee, Mrs. Albrecht Meise of Kohler, and Mrs. Waldmar Kinzel at home, Miss Ruth of Chippewa Falls, and Miss Esther at home; three sons, Paul of the town of Wilson, Arno of Cleveland, and Edmund at home; one sister, Mrs. John Deicher of Hilbert; three brothers, Ernst and Julian of Platte, S. D., and the Rev. William Schulz of Ashley, N. D., and eleven grandchildren. The body will be taken to the family home on the farm Sunday morning, and funeral services will be Monday at the home and at St. John’s Evangelical church at Schwartzwald in the town of Herman. The Rev. William Schulz will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. ARNO J. SCHULZ cemetery #90 Kiel, Wis—(Special)—Arno J. Schulz, 32, died at the farm home in the town of Meeme Sunday afternoon following an illness of two weeks. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home here, and at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church at Schwartzwald in the town of Meeme. The Rev. William Schulz will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Schulz was born January 4, 1905, in the town of Herman, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Schulz of the town of Herman. His father was killed in a dynamite blast last September. On September 5, 1925, Mr. Schulz was married to Miss Martha Wessel of the town of Herman, and after their marriage, they located on a farm in the town of Herman, where they lived for three years. For the past seven years they have lived on the John Schneider farm in the town of Meeme. Survivors are Mr. Schulz’s widow, three daughters, Dorothy, Gertrude and Marian; three sons, Robert, Carl and Arno; his mother, seven sisters, Mrs. August Dedow of Casco; Mrs. Carl Johnson and Mrs. Henry Walgreen of Milwaukee, Mrs. Albert Miese of Kohler, Mrs. Waldemar Kinzel of the town of Herman; Miss Ruth Schulz of Chippewa Falls, and Miss Esther Schulz, at home; and two brothers, Paul of the town of Wilson and Edmund of the town of Herman. BERTHA ELISE MATHILDE SCHULZ cemetery #17 (From the Obituary Book of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maribel: 8 January 1879) Bertha Elise Mathilde Schulz was born January 19, 1869, and became ill about a week ago with inflammation of the bowels, and died Sunday noon. CARL M. SCHULZ cemetery #90 Carl M. Schulz, 85, died Friday at 10 p.m. at the home of his son Albert Schulz, on a farm in the town of Herman. The deceased leaves a widow and several children. Reiss home and formerly of 1111 Sixth Street, Kiel. The services will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Schleswig cemetery at Rockville. Mrs. Schulz died early Monday evening at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan. She had been a resident of the Reiss Home since July, 1962. Mrs. Schulz was born May 8, 1869, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Hans and Henrietta Reimers. She received her education in the district school and was married to William Schulz of the Town of Schleswig on December 7, 1895. The couple lived at Kiel following their marriage and operated a farm at the Kiel city limits for a number of years. Mr. Schulz died in March of 1946. Surviving are a nephew, Harvey Spettel of Mequon, and a niece, Mrs. Harvey Schneider, Milwaukee, both of whom were brought up in the Schulz home. Another nephew and niece also survive. A memorial has been established for the Anna M. Reiss Home. FRIEDERIKE REGINA SCHULZ cemetery #85 CALLED BY DEATH. Death suddenly claimed Mrs. Friederike Regina Schulz on Monday morning at 6:30, heart failure being the cause of her demise after about one year's illness. The deceased, nee Paul, who was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Reichert in this city, was born in Bandelow, near Prenzlau, Pommerania, Germany, April 2nd 1839, and came to America in 1856 with her parents, who settled in the town of Schleswig. In 1860 she was married to Otto Schulz and the couple made their home on a farm in the town of Schleswig. Her husband died in 1875. She is survived by six children: two sons, Herman in Milwaukee and William in Kiel, and four daughters, Mrs. Friederike Sievert, Mrs. Emilie Spettel, Mrs. Louise Steinberg and Mrs. Wm. Reichert, all of Kiel. Also 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at 1:30, from the Reichert home, with interment in the cemetery on the Ucker road, after services in the Louis Corners church, conducted by Rev. W. J. EMIL SCHULZ cemetery #50 From Der Nord Westen, 14 Apr. 1904: Death Thurs. last week of J.E. Schulz, after suffering for a long while with a combination of illnesses. Mr. Schulz was known as one of the outstanding business men in the village of Reedsville, the entire county, as well as Manitowoc and Calumet Counties He occupied several local offices in Reedsville and represented this village for several years on the county Board of Supervisors. He reached the age of 43 and leaves a widow and several children. The funeral was held Sun. morning amid a large group of mourners.

SOPHIA SCHULZ cemetery #90 Mrs. Sophie Schulz, 73, widow of Albert Schulz, a resident of R. 1, Elkhart Lake, died this morning following a lingering illness. She was born at Howards Grove April 29, 1884, the daughter of the late William and Henrietta Otto Schneider. She attended the township district school and on April 8, 1901, was married to Albert Schulz of Town Herman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Millersville. The couple resided on the Schulz homestead farm, Town Herman, which is now operated by their son Edmund. Mr. Schulz passed away Sept. 4, 1936. Two sons, Raymond and Arno, and a brother and two sisters, also preceded Mrs. Schulz in death. Survivors are; seven daughters - Mrs. August (Norma) Dedow, Green Bay; Mrs. Carl (Valeska) Johnson and Mrs. Henry (Hilda) Wahlgren, both of Milwaukee; Mrs. Albrecht (Martha) Meise, town Meeme; Mrs. Waldemar (Emma) Kinzel, Sheboygan; Miss Ruth Schulz, Union Grove and Mrs. Richard (Esther) Seidel, Milwaukee; two sons, - Paul, Cambridge, Wis., and Edmund on the homestead farm, Town Herman; two brothers, - Edward Schneider of Edwards and Ferdinand Schneider of Fontana, Calif; and 22 grand- children and 10 great grandchildren. Following his marriage to Miss Emma Reimers on Dec. 7, 1895, the couple moved to this city, where they have since resided. Survivors include the widow; two "adopted" children, Mrs. Harvey (Lillian) Schneider, and Harvey Spettel of Milwaukee, and 4 sisters, Mrs. Herman Steinberg, Mrs. Fredericka Sievert and Mrs. Henry Spettel of this city, and Mrs. Helena Reichert of Manitowoc. Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and burial took place in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were Herman J. Duecker, William Lueloff, Anton LaBudde, Earl Lehner, Adam Sanal and Philip Reineck. WILMER SCHULZ cemetery #33 Wilmer H. Schulz, age 90, formerly of Hempton Lake Road, Cato, and a current resident of Greendale Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sheboygan, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at the center. Wilmer was born in Random Lake on June 15, 1916, son of the late August and Louise Schulz. On Aug. 27, 1938, he married Lola Suemnicht in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1999. Wilmer then married Nelda at the Progressive Care Center in Sheboygan. He owned and operated a dairy farm for many years in the Valders area until his retirement in 1991. Wilmer was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Schulz and Nancy Schulz; one son and daughter-in-law, Wilbur Schulz and Mary Jane Schulz; three grandsons; five brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services for Wilmer will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at the Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel in the town of Kossuth. Presiding at the service will be the Rev. Dr. James Klein. Burial will take place following the service in the Knollwood Memorial Park. ADOLPH SCHULZE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 25 Jan. 1894: Adolph Schulz, an old and well-known resident of our city, died yesterday afternoon after a long and terrible illness. We once reported that he had celebrated his 60th birthday accompanied by his friends, a time when he enjoyed excellent health. Later he developed a growth on his neck that he chose to have removed. An operation was undertaken, but the growth was determined to have been cancerous and the operation too late. His death may be considered a release from the subsequent pain and suffering. He is survived by his widow, a daughter and 2 sons. The funeral will take place on Sun. afternoon.

CAROLINE SCHUMACHER cemetery #25 Mrs. Caroline Schumacher, 83, formerly of Manitowoc, died at Manitowoc County Hospital early Monday morning. She had been a patient there 16 years. Funeral services will be Wednesday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. Vernon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Niles Cemetery, near Manitowoc on Highway 151. Mrs. Schumacher, nee Caroline Huntley, was born March 13, 1882, at Eaton, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Saxe Huntley. She was married to Godfrey Schumacher in 1921 in Illinois and the couple returned to reside in Manitowoc County. Survivors include two sons, Robert, of Chicago and Donald, of Oshkosh, a step-daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Florence) Browning, of Columbus, Ohio, a step-son, Vincent, of Altoona, Pa., and three grandchildren. GODFREY SCHUMACHER cemetery #25 PATIENT DIES WHILE ON WAY TO HOSPITAL Godfrey B. Schumacher, 49, Passes Away This Morning While Being Removed From Home Suffering a stroke as he was being removed from his home, 427 North Tenth Street to the Holy Family hospital in the city ambulance this morning, Godfrey B. Schumacher, 49, born here and a resident of this city for mostly all of his life passed away as he was being carried into the institution. The remains were removed to the Frazier undertaking parlors and burial will probably take place on Monday. Mr. Schumacher, although not in the best of health for the past few years has been able to continue his duties as a traveling salesman. However in the past few weeks his condition became aggravated and for several days he had been confined to his bed. This morning it was decided to remove him to the hospital from his home, but the stroke claimed him while he was on the way there. The deceased was born and brought up in this city. Except for brief periods when he resided at Columbus, Ohio and Minneapolis, Minn., he has always made his home here. He was married eleven years ago at Chicago to Miss Carrie Huntley who survives him with three sons, Vincent, Robert and Donald. Four sisters, Mrs. Lena Telford and Miss Rose of this city, Mrs. George Schreiber of Milwaukee and Mrs. Clara White of Wabeno, and two brothers, Frank of Elkhart, Ind., and Charles of Dutton, Mont., also survive. JOSEPH SCHUMACHER cemetery #57 Sheboygan Zeitung, Sept. 22, 1897, p. 8, c. 3 The old Mr. Schumacher has been ailing for some time. His recovery is in doubt. ******* Sheboygan Zeitung, Wed. Sept. 29, 1897, p. 8, c. 2 The old Mr. Schumacher from Ada, who had been ill for a long time, last Wednesday succumbed to his suffering. Besides a heart ailment, he also had dropsy. He reached the age of a little more than 76 years. The funeral took place last Friday at the church cemetery in Schwartzwald. (Note: The obit says Schwartzwald, but his stone is in Holy Trinity) ******** The widow Schumacher from Ada sustained considerable injuries from a fall down the stairs. Her neighbor, Mrs. Roethel, has taken on the care of the patient.

She was born at the farm home north of Kiel on December 6, 1868, the daughter of Mathias and Elizabeth Burkhardt. In February, 1892, she was married to Edgar Schunk, and the couple settled in Milwaukee for 10 years. They moved to Menominee Falls where they lived until 1926 when Mrs. Schunk became ill and was moved to the family home in Kiel. She was bedridden since, and two weeks ago she was moved to St. Nicholas hospital. The couple had celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in 1942. Survivors are: her husband; a son, Dr. Oliver Schunk of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Gottlieb of Kiel; and a sister, Ida of Kiel. Two brothers, William and Henry, and two sisters, Bertha and Mrs. William Meiselwitz, preceded here(sic) in death. Aurora Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Menominee Falls will take charge of the funeral, assisted by the Rev. Ernest Nelson, pastor of Presbyterian church, Kiel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, and burial will be made in Rockville cemetery. *********** Couple Observes Marriage Date Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Schunk, who were married February 27, 1892, observed their golden wedding anniversary on the farm of Henry Burkhardt, Kiel, R.1, on Sunday, March 1st. The couple was married here fifty years ago. Present at the celebration dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Burkhardt, Miss Ida Burkhardt, William Meiselwitz, Mrs. R.J. Mullen and children Richard and Carol, and also the attendants at the couples wedding fifty years ago, Henry Burkhardt, Bertha Burkhardt, Eliza Kaun and Philip Mueller. A group of ladies, members of the Order of Eastern Star of Menomonee Falls called to extend best wishes, and the couple received many beautiful floral tributes, gifts and cards. The couple has one son, Dr. Oliver Schunk, at Menomonee Falls, with whom the celebrant is making his home. Mrs. Schunk is 73 years old, and is the daughter of Mathias and Elizabeth Burkhardt, who located here in 1858. Mr. Schunk, 74, is the son of Oliver and Margaret Schunk. Mr. Schunk is still active in the cottage building business, and has been doing this kind of work for 27 years. After the couples marriage they moved to Milwaukee and resided there until 1902, when they moved to Menomonee Falls. ********* Marriage of Edgar Schunk and Anna Burkhardt. Mr. Schunk had been ill for several months. Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest J. Nelson officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Mr. Schunk was born in Millhome in 1867, the son of the late Oliver Schunk and Margaret Diefenthaler. In 1892 he was married to the former Anna Burkhardt of Schleswig. The couple moved to Menominee Falls 10 years later, operating a hotel there for 14 years. In 1916 he established the first truck line between Menominee Falls and Milwaukee. He remained in the business until 1942, when he moved to a farm north of Kiel to live with relatives. Mrs. Schunk died in 1951. Survivors include a son, Oliver of St. Louis, Missouri; and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Boelter of Milwaukee and Dr. Clara Schunk and Mrs. Eliza Kaun, both of Jackson, Michigan. - Feb. 3, 1952 *********** Couple Observes Marriage Date Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Schunk, who were married February 27, 1892, observed their golden wedding anniversary on the farm of Henry Burkhardt, Kiel, R.1, on Sunday, March 1st. The couple was married here fifty years ago. Present at the celebration dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Burkhardt, Miss Ida Burkhardt, William Meiselwitz, Mrs. R.J. Mullen and children Richard and Carol, and also the attendants at the couples wedding fifty years ago, Henry Burkhardt, Bertha Burkhardt, Eliza Kaun and Philip Mueller. A group of ladies, members of the Order of Eastern Star of Menomonee Falls called to extend best wishes, and the couple received many beautiful floral tributes, gifts and cards. The couple has one son, Dr. Oliver Schunk, at Menomonee Falls, with whom the celebrant is making his home. Mrs. Schunk is 73 years old, and is the daughter of Mathias and Elizabeth Burkhardt, who located here in 1858. Mr. Schunk, 74, is the son of Oliver and Margaret Schunk. Mr. Schunk is still active in the cottage building business, and has been doing this kind of work for 27 years. MARGARETHA SCHUNK cemetery #84 Kiel—Mrs. Oliver Schunk (nee Margaretha Diefenthaler) passed away at the insane asylum in Manitowoc where she was a patient for the last 30 years. She was born Jan. 6, 1848 in Spieszheim, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, and came to America and Germantown with her parents as a young girl. In 1858 she was married to Mr. Schunk and they lived on the Adam Bub farm in Town Rhine for some time until Mr. Schunk operated the feed mill in Millhome, which he did for 13 years. She is survived by 2 sons and 5 daughters. The burial is Wednesday afternoon in the Rockville cemetery with Pastor Rech officiating. Plymouth Post, June 1, 1912
OLIVER SCHUNK cemetery #84 Oliver Schunk, the famous auctioneer passed away on May 31st at the home of his son-in-law, Conrad Kaiser in Kiel after a short illness. The deceased was born February 13, 1833 in Montgomery County, New York and came to Germantown, Wisconsin at the age of 10 years with his parents who purchased a farm there. He was married to Margaretha Diefentahaeler on October 14th, 1848 and they settled on a farm in Town Russell and then moved to Millhome where he operated a feed mill for 7 years. His marriage was blessed with 9 children of which 2 died in their infancy. His age at death was 89 years, 3 months and 18 days and is survived by 2 sons, 5 daughters, 13 grandchildren and two sisters. The burial is Saturday afternoon in the cemetery in Rockville with Pastor Rech officiating. Members of the Odd Fellows Lodge of which he was a member attended the funeral as a group. JOHN SCHURICHT cemetery #82 The victim of a heart attack, John Schuricht, 65, passed away unexpectedly at about 9:30 Monday morning at the home of his son Arthur in the town of Russell. He had been assisting his son with chores in the barn, and was stricken while at work. The day before he had observed his birthday anniversary at his home at 718 Fourth street here, and had attended the German services at the St. Peter Reformed church in the morning. The deceased was born January 30, 1867, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johann Gottlieb Schuricht, on the homestead farm in the town of Russell now owned by his son. He was married Nov. 4, 1893 to Miss Mathilda Friederich of Mequon near Thiensville, the couple settling on the homestead. Here they remained until November, 1919, when they sold the farm to their only son, Arthur and moved to Kiel. They have resided here ever since. The couple had always been members of the St. Paul Evangelical church in the town of Russell, until this last Christmas when they became members of the St. Peter Reformed church here. Besides his son and widow, he is survived by two grandchildren, Lester and Elroy Schuricht, and by one brother, Gustave of Glenbeulah. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o'clock from the St. Peter Reformed church, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Schurr was born in Manitowoc county 58 years ago and had made her home here all her life. She was married to Mr. Schurr 37 years ago in this city. ARTHUR J. SCHURRER cemetery #9 Arthur J. Schurrer, 63, of the Village of Cleveland, died Wednesday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stoltenberg Funeral Chapels, Cleveland. The Rev. Thomas Peeters will officiate and burial will be in St. Gregory Cemetery, Cleveland. Military graveside services wil be conducted by the Cleveland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8974. Mr. Schurrer was born Sept. 3, 1908, in the Town of Centerville, son of the late Hugo and Barbara Diener Schurrer. He served in the United States Army Sixth Armour Division for three years during World War II. After service he was an auto mechanic for Schurrer Motor Sales, Cleveland, until 1953 when he joined his father in Schurrer's Tavern, Hika. The tavern has been operated by the Schurrer family for 73 years. He was a member of the Manitowoc County Tavern League, organizer, charter member and past post commander of the Cleveland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8974. Survivors include a brother, Edwin, of Sheboygan, a half-brother, Theodore, of Oshkosh, a sister, Mrs. Ann Aingelton, of Cleveland and two nephews. His parents and a sister preceded him in death. CLARISSA SCHUSTER cemetery #22 Infant Daughter at St. Nazianz is Dead of Poisoning St. Nazianz – Gladys Schuster, 20-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Schuster, died here yesterday of strychnine poisoning, after taking sugar-coated pills from the cupboard while her mother was outdoors. The pills were those used by Mrs. Schuster for medicine. This is the second instance of a similar nature within this section in a week. A week ago, Floyd Youmans, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Youmans of Greenbush died after taking pills that had been prescribed for his mother. Mrs. Schuster was busy outdoors, and the baby, toddling around the house, found her way to the pantry, where she found a box containing the pills. It is not known how many she took, but when her mother returned to the house, she was confronted by the pathetic sight of her baby in convulsions. A physician was called, but before he arrived, the poison had taken effect. Besides her parents, the baby is survived by two sisters, Rosmilda, aged 4, and Dorothy, aged six months, and a brother, Lawrence, aged three years. Funeral services will be held at St. Nazianz at 9 a.m. Thursday with burial in the St. Nazianz cemetery. Born Nov. 30, 1890 in Germany, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schuster. He came to the United States and located at Stratford. On Aug. 10, 1919 he married the former Althea Parent of Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel their entire married lives. Mr. Schuster was employed at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. and the Kiel Frame Co. His wife died in August 1955. Survivors include one son, Jean of Menomonee Falls; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frances Berdcher of Fort Smith, Ark., and one brother, Frank of Stratford. MARY JANE SCHUSTER cemetery #46 Sister Mary Jane Schuster, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, age 94, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Holy Family Convent. She was born Lucy Schuster on Nov. 1, 1913, in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Drexler) Schuster. Sister Mary Jane earned a bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere and a master's degree from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. She entered the convent in 1929, and professed her vows in 1932. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. Sister Mary Jane served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. Peter, Middleton; St. Phillip, St. Agnes, and St. Joseph, Green Bay; Ss. Peter and Paul, Kiel; St. Mary, Bloomington; Sacred Heart, Oshkosh; St. Boniface, Manitowoc; St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Mich.; Guardian Angels, West Point, Neb.; and St. Benedict, Cambridge, Ohio. She also served as a librarian at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Mich., St. Mary, Brillion, St. Francis, Hollandtown and performed various services at Sacred Heart, Manitowoc, and Holy Redeemer, Two Rivers. Since 2001, she has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. (Survivors omitted for privacy.)
