LESTER A. SCHNELL cemetery #70 Lester A. Schnell, 67, of Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc, formerly of Rt. 3, Manitowoc, died Friday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. The Rev. A.T. Degner will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Schnell was born Aug. 12, 1903, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Herman and Martha Naumann Schnell. He married Ida Hemb April 18, 1928, at Cleveland. His wife preceded him in death July 16, 1967. Mr. Schnell was past branch secretary of the A.A.L., past member of St. John Lutheran School Board and also past director and member of the Manitowoc County Holstein Breeders Association. Survivors include a son, two daughters, a brother, Melvin of Two Rivers, a sister, Mrs. Lily Koepsel of Plymouth and 11 grandchildren. LESTER O. SCHNELL cemetery #81 Lester O Schnell, 61, of Route 1, Kiel, died September 8 at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. He was born December 9, 1914 in the Town of Schleswig, a son of William and Emma Voss Schnell. He attended district schools. On March 5, 1941, he married Anita Buchholz at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. The couple owned and operated a farm in Schleswig. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Schleswig, a former deacon and elder of the church, and a member of the Schleswig Board of Health. LORENA SCHNELL cemetery #21 Mrs. Lorena Schnell, 68, of 117 S. Third St., St. Nazianz, died Monday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home and 10:45 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Cyrill Dickrell, S.D.S., will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell, nee Loerna(sic) Riesterer, was born Feb. 25, 1907, in the Town of Eaton, daughter of the late John and Rose Anhalt Riesterer. She attended St. Gregory School. She was married to John Schnell Oct. 16, 1928, at St. Gregory Church. He preceded her in death in 1945. She was a member of St. Nazianz American Legion Auxiliary, St. Gregory Christian Mothers Society and Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include three sons, a daughter, six brothers, Anton, Herman, and Steve, of Rt.1, Kiel, Peter and Joseph, of St. Nazianz, and John, of Rt.4, Chilton; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Schnell, of St. Nazianz, 15 grand- children and three great grandchildren.(Survivors edited for privacy) Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death. LORRAINE E. SCHNELL cemetery #21 Lorraine E. Schnell, age 88, formerly of the town of Eaton, died on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth. Lorraine was born on Jan. 29, 1919, in the town of Schleswig, in Manitowoc County, the daughter of William Broeckert and Amelia Kautzer. She married Louis Schnell on Sept. 3, 1951, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. Together they farmed the family homestead their entire adult lives. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was preceded in death on April 17, 1981, by her husband, Louis, and was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2007, from 4 p.m. until the time of Mass at 6 p.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 212 Church St., St. Nazianz. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Jelacic Funeral Home of Milwaukee is serving the family. LOUIS SCHNELL cemetery #21 Louis Schneil, 72, of Route 1, Kiel, died Friday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, following a brief illness. He was born March 3, 1909, in the Town of Eaton, a son of Anton and Margaret Basel Schnell. He attended Elder Grove School. On September 3, 1951, he and Lorraine Broeckert were married in Kiel. Mr. Schnell was a lifelong Town of Eaton farmer. He was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, its Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Surviving are his wife; one son, one daughter, three grandchildren; four brothers, Roland of Route 2, Kiel, Gilbert of Sheboygan, Leo of Route 1, Valders and Othmar of New Berlin, and one sister Meta Schnell of Manitowoc. LOUIS A. SCHNELL (d. 1934) cemetery #40 Louis A. Schnell, Town of Liberty Farmer, Dies Louis A. Schnell, 76, retired Town of Liberty farmer, died at 5:40 p.m Wednesday at the home of his niece. Mrs. David Stewart, 913 South 14th street, following a stroke. The body was removed to the Stewart residence late this afternoon from the Wattawa, Urbanek & Schlei funeral home. Services will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock Saturday and at the Liberty Lutheran church at 3 o'clock. The Rev. P. Hensel will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Schnell was born July 8, 1857 in Liberty. He married Miss Augusta Schnell May 23, 1884. Twenty-six years ago they moved to Manitowoc and Mrs. Schnell died the following year. LOUIS J. SCHNELL (d. 1942) cemetery #40 Funeral Servives For Louis Schnell Held Wednesday Valders, Wis. - Funeral services for Louis Schnell, aged 83, lifelong resident of the Liberty township, who passed away Saturday afternoon, April 25, after an illness of a few days, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Berge Funeral home here, and at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church in Liberty township, the Rev. E. C. Schroeder officiating. He became ill while attending a funeral service for his grand-daughter, Mrs. Thomas Blacklock, at St. Wendel, Wednesday, April 22. Interment was in the church cemetery, six grandsons serving as pallbearers. Deceased was born May 29, 1858, in Liberty township, eldest of a family of five boys and five girls. He was 16 years of age when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Schnell, bought the farm on which the family have since lived. On March 9, 1892, he was married to Miss Ida Kahn of Milwaukee. For 50 years the Schnells have been a member of the Liberty Trinity Lutheran church and Mrs. Schnell has been a member of the Ladies' Aid. In March, this year, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Survivors are the widow; one son, Walter, of Liberty township; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard Fehrman of Newton, Mrs. Art Thiel, route 4, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Orley Halverson of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles and Herbert of Newton, and August of Liberty, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Kieselhorst. There were about one hundred forty guests. The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thiel, Mrs. Bertha Beyersdorff of Milwaukee and Louis Schnell, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schnell, Mr. Arwin Schnell, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pleuss and Mrs. Chas. Westphal of Manitowoc. The room was decorated in green and white crepe paper and silver tinsel. All had an enjoyable time, the guests being ? there until 4 o’clock in the morning. MARGARET SCHNELL cemetery #21 Oct. 6, 1924. St. Nazianz. Mrs. Anton Schnell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Hartmann, at Sheboygan last Tuesday of heart stroke. Two weeks ago she underwent an operation for goitre and was recuperating at the home of her daughter when death came. Deceased, nee Margaret Basel, was born at Whitelaw, Jan. 6, 1874. On June 12, 1894, she was united in marriage to Anton Schnell and the couple moved on a farm 3 miles southwest of St. Nazianz. Their union was blessed with thirteen children, who survive her, namely: Mrs. John Kautzer and Mrs. Jos. Hartman of Sheboygan, Mrs. Jos. Nennig, Mrs. Otto Trost of Manitowoc, Elizabeth, Louise and Maddie at home, Anton Roland, Herman, Gilbert, Leo, and Adam. Also three brothers, Peter Basel of Milwaukee, Carl of St. Francis and Joseph of Whitelaw; and five sisters, Mrs. Jos. Holzer of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Geo. Nennig, Mrs. Otto Beltman, Mrs. Ry. Ernest, and Mrs. Herman Grady, all of Milwaukee. The funeral was held Friday at 9:30, with burial in the St. Nazianz cemetery, Rev. Deibele officiating.


MARGARET SCHNELL cemetery #83 Miss Margaret (Maggie) Schnell, 21, R. 2, Kiel, died early today at St. Nicholas Hospital after an illness of seven years. Born Feb. 3, 1940, in the Town of Schleswig, she was a daughter of Roland and Hattie Kautzer Schnell, attended Ss. Peter and Paul Parochial School in Kiel and also Kiel High School. Survivors are her parents; a sister and two brothers (names omitted for privacy). The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel by the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, following brief rites at 9 at the Mesielwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. MARIA SCHNELL (d. 1920) cemetery #42 The angel of death entered our community and came as a relief to Mrs. A. Schnell. She had been sick for a long time but was confined to her bed a week ago when pneumonia developed. Mrs. Schnell, nee Marie Willot, was born in Germany, January 21, 1838. She came to Manitowoc with her parents in 1856 and was married to Adam Schnell in 1857 and since then made her home on the farm where both died, her husband preceding her in death 26 years ago. She is survived by nine children all residing in Liberty and Newton. They are Mrs. Louis Pleuss, Mrs. Fred Kieselhorst, Mrs. Henry Kieselhorst, Mrs. Carl Kueuger and Louis, Ernst, Carl, August and Herman. One daughter preceded her in death nine years ago. MARY SCHNELL cemetery #40 Mrs. Mary Schnell, 92, of the Town of Liberty, Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died at her home Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty, with the Rev. Samuel Kugler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell was born Feb. 28, 1866, on the homestead farm in the Town of Liberty where she spent her entire life, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johann Wehausen, April 17, 1885, she was married to John Schnell and he died in 1919. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid Society. Surviving are twin daughters, Mrs. Mary Fischer of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Anna Lippert of Tucson, Ariz. two sons, Edwin and John of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mrs. Schnell, nee Schuette, was born May 13, 1883, in Town of Newton, daughter of the late William and Margaret Behringer Schuette. She was married to Herman Schnell Jan. 9, 1917, at Manitowoc, and the couple farmed in Town of Newton until 1949 moving to Manitowoc. Mr. Schnell died Aug. 3, 1959. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Reinhart Pabian, of Manitowoc, two stepsons, Melvin, of Two Rivers and Lester, of Manitowoc, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Lily Koepsel, of Plymouth, four grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. OLIVE ROSE SCHNELL cemetery #21 Olive Rose Schnell, age 66, of 18814 Twin Bay Lane, Kiel, died early Friday morning, May 14, 2004, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee. A Memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Gregory Coulthard. Olive was born on June 6, 1937, in St. Nazianz, daughter of the late Edwin Stiefvater and the former Hattie Eberle. She graduated from Kiel High School with the class of 1955. Olive married the former Eugene (Putzy) Schnell on July 27, 1957, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The couple owned and operated Putzy and Olive's Bar in St. Nazianz for 20 years. Olive recently retired from Jim and Janey's Mini Mart in St. Nazianz. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Holy Trinity Parish, School Hill. OTTO SCHNELL cemetery #85 Otto Schnell, aged 54, passed away at his farm home in the town of Schleswig on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock while resting in his chair, the cause of his death being a sudden heart attack. Although the deceased was in failing health for the past several months, his death was not expected so suddenly. The deceased, who was the son of Frederick and Flora Schnell was born on a farm in the town of Eaton on April 19, 1883. He was married to Miss Ida Voss of the town of Schleswig on December 2, 1903 and the couple located on their present farm home. Two children were born to the couple, a son Frederick at home, and a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Eldora) Matznick of the town of Schleswig; two grandchildren, two brothers, William of Schleswig and and Adolph of Plymouth, and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Wetzel of Plymouth, and Mrs. Mollie Karstaedt of the town of Rhine also survive. His wife passed away on February 4, 1930. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home here at 1:30 o'clock, and at 2 o'clock services were held in the Bethlehem Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August H. Hammann officiated, and burial was made in the Ucker Road cemetery, in the town of Eaton.

PAUL E. SCHNELL cemetery #21 Paul E. Schnell, age 67, of 212 W. Court, St.Nazianz, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, after a courageous six-month battle with post surgical complications. He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in the town of Liberty, son of the late Francis and Linda (Kaltenbrun) Schnell. Paul was a graduate of Valders Hisgh School, class of 1957. On Sept. 17, 1960, he married the former Ellen M. Clark at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Paul began his career serving an apprenticeship at Manitowoc Engineering, eventually earning his journeyman status. He and Ellen then co-owned and operated The Opera House in St. Nazianz from 1965 to 1977. He then was employed as a car salesman with local dealerships for many years. Paul spent the last 20 years as an agent for Rural Insurance Company, retiring in January of 2004. Paul was always committed to public service. He served with the St. Nazianz Fire Department, was active in the St. Nazianz Lions, St. Gregory Church Choir and served as village president of St. Nazianz for 28 years. (Survivors omitted for privacy) He was preceded in death by a brother; Elroy Schnell. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. ROGER W. SCHNELL cemetery #81 Roger W. Schnell, 65, of 20515 CTY Hwy X, Kiel died peacefully Sunay morning, December 3, 2006 at Meadow View Manor, Sheboygan after a short stay. He was born October 14, 1941 in Sheboygan, son of the late Lester & Anita Buchholz Schnell. Roger was a 1959 graduate of Kiel High School. He was a veteran of the US Army seving his country proudly from 1964-1966 as a Mercury Missile Crewman. Roger was formerly married to Donna Flemming. He farmed in the Town of Schleswig all his life and also worked at various businesses in the area including Arps Corp., Laun Furniture Co. and Koeppen Mink Ranch. Roger was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing & hunting. He is survived by ten brothers & sisters (Survivors omitted for privacy.) He is further survived by sixteen nieces and nephews, three grand nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Ellen Schnell. The former Stella Madigan was born March 31, 1896, at Osman, a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Walterbach Madigan. She attended district schools. On October 17, 1916, she married Mr. Schnell of Eaton at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman. The couple operated a farm in Eaton until retirement in 1964. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in October of 1966. Mrs. Schnell was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel and its Christian Mothers Society. The body of a 13-year-old girl was recovered from a small lake in the Town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County while dragging operations continued at noon today for a rural Kaukauna youth who disappeared in the waters of Lake Winnebago near High Cliff State Park. Sue Ellen Schnell, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schnell, R. 1, Kiel drowned in tiny Sy’s Lake northwest of Kiel. She slipped from an innertube about 4 o’clock and her body was recovered by volunteer divers and the Manitowoc County sheriff’s department about 10 p.m. ....... The Schnell girl was swimming with a friend, Kathy Schlager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Schlager, R. 1, Kiel, on whose farm the small lake is located. Kathy said that as she turned in the water she noticed that Sue Ellen was missing. Relatives said they believed Sue Ellen might have slipped from the innertube and suffered a cramp. They described the lake as “deep”. Sue Ellen graduated earlier this month from the eighth grade at Kiel public school. ..... Sue Ellen Schnell was born in the Town of Schleswig July 6, 1952, the daughter of Lester and Anita Buchholz Schnell. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. Prior to attending Kiel public school, she was a pupil at Hillside rural school. She was a member of the Bethlehem Church, the Sunday School, the Youth Fellowship and the church choir. Surviving in addition to her parents, are four sisters, seven brothers, her maternal grandparents, and her paternal grandmother. WILLIAM SCHNELL cemetery #81 William W. Schnell, 79, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc County) farmer, died at 2:10 a.m. today at the farm home about five miles northeast of Kiel. Since retiring from active farming, Mr. and Mrs. Schnell had continued to live on the farm, now operated by their son, Lester. Mr. Schnell had been ailing since last March. A son of the late Frederick and Flora Mueller Schnell, he was born on the Town of Eaton farm of his parents, Sept. 21, 1880. He attended district school and married Emma Voss of Schleswig, Oct. 2, 1913. The couple operated the Voss home farm until retirement. Mr. Schnell, active in township and church circles, served several terms as a Schleswig supervisor and was currently a member of the town board of health. A member of Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, he formerly was on the church consistory and belonged to the Men’s Brotherhood. Surviving, in addition to his wife and the son, Lester, are a daughter, Miss Elnora, at home; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Albert Wetzel, Plymouth. SCHNELL cemetery #40 BARN CAVE-IN VICTIM DIES OF INJURIES Skull Fracture and Internal Chest Injuries Prove Fatal To William Schnell William Schnell, 44, town of Liberty farmer, one of eight men injured Tuesday morning in the collapse of the framework of a barn under construction near Gjerpen, died at 10 o'clock Wednesday night at the Holy Family hospital. Schnell died of a skull fracture and serious internal chest injuries. He also had a compound fracture of one leg. He was crushed under several timbers 10 inches wide and 10 inches thick and never fully regained consciousness. Dr. Gerald Rau, county coroner, Sheriff Normnn Berkedal and Dist. Atty. John R. Cashman went to the scene of the accident this afternoon and the result of their investigation will determine whether an inquest will be held. The seven other persons hurt in the accident are all reported to be out of danger and most of them have returned to their homes. 50 WERE ON JOB Workmen who were alongside Schnell at the time of the accident said that he apparently was hit as he tried to avoid being struck by a ladder. Schnell was a member of a crew of about 50 volunteer work-men who were engaged in constructing a barn on farm property adjacent to the Grace Norwegian church and owned by the Norwegian Lutheran Synod of the American Evangelical church. Mr. Schnell was the son ot Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Schnell who lived with him on the homestead farm in the Town of Liberty near the Liberty Lutheran church. He was born on that farm March 24, 1893. Besides his aged-parents, he is survlved by one brother, Walter of Newton, three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Thiel of Liberty, Mrs. Leonard Fehrmann of Newton and Mrs. Orley Halverson of this city, six nephews and four nieces. FUNERAL SATURDAY Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran church at Liberty Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. Ehrich Schroeter officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be removed to the residence Friday afternoon. LUZI SCHNELLER Luzi Schneller, 59, who has been ill for years, died this morning at his home, 2401 10th street, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Klein and Stangel Inc., funeral home, with burial in Forest View cemetery. He was born in Winona, Minn., in 1886 and later moved to Neillsville, Wis., with his parents where he married Lila Putman. They located on a farm near there and in 1926 moved to Two Rivers where Mr. Schneller was employed at the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company until ill health forced his retirement about nine years ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Withee, Wis. Survivors are the wife, one son, J.R. Schneller; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Rebarchek and Beatrice, all of Two Rivers. As he aged he retired from his labors and went to live with his son Alex, in whose residence his death occurred. He leaves 4 sons and a daughter. FRED J. SCHNORR cemetery #89A F.J. Schnorr, Last Survivor of Old Ball Team, Dies Fred J. Schnorr, 90, last survivor of Two Rivers first baseball team, the Centennials, died last night of a heart ailment, while enroute to the Two Rivers municipal hospital. Mr. Schnorr who resided in the business block at 1610 Washington street which he built in 1913, has been active until a few days ago. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Beduhn funeral home, Two Rivers, with burial in Pioneers Rest cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Schnorr, a lather by trade, who aided in the construction of many Two Rivers residences and most of the city's larger buildings, was known to early sports fans of the community as an outstanding pitcher on the first Centennial baseball club of 1876. (Photo) His teammates on that orginal team included the late U.S. Senator Thomas J. Walsh, J.E. Hamilton, Henry Walsh, Max Fishbein, Will P. Hayes, William F. Ahearn, Louis Mische, Fred Beth and Wenzel Cisler. He was born in London, England in 1856 and came here in 1873 and followed his trade at the Mann pail factory. He left Two Rivers and returned several times before locating there permanently in 1895. One of his trips away from the city took him to Colorado while he returned to England for two years on another occasion. He retired from active work when 70 years of age, only to resume his occupation for several years. Even during recent years he helped in the maintenance of the Schnorr block. In 1901 he married the former Miss Mary Hartung of Two Rivers who died in 1905. On April 25, 1908 he married the former Miss Lulu Hartung, who survives him, with an only son, Thomas, of Two Rivers, former city editor of the Reporter. One grandchild also survives. PHILIP SCHNORR, SR. (d. 1942) cemetery #89C Philip Schnorr, 78, resident of Two Rivers for nearly 70 years and a member of the first band to be organized there in 1889, died last night at the Municipal hospital there. Although in ill health 15 years, he had not been confined to his bed even during the last two weeks when he failed rapidly. Mr. Schnorr was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the C.J. Jansky funeral home, the Rev. F.E. Schlueter officiating. Interment will be in Forest View cemetery. Philip Schnorr, who for the last seven and a half years made his home with a daughter, Mrs. James Marineau, in Two Rivers, was born in London, England, on April 14, 1864. He came to this country at the age of nine and made his home in Two Rivers ever since. On July 4, 1892, he married Rose Vanderbloemen. Survivors are four daguhters, five sons, four brothers, 14 grand- children and three great grandchildren. The daughters ar Mrs. Martin Pagel of Milwaukee, Mrs. James Marineau and Mrs. Richard Juul of Two Rivers and Ruth Schnorr of Manitowoc. The sons are George of Kansas City, Anton of Chicago and William, Philip Jr., and Fred of Two Rivers. Fred J. CARL H. SCHNUELL Word was received here Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. John Ruh that her father had died at his home in the town of Eaton following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Charles Schnuell was born 69 years, 5 months and 8 days before his death, in Germany. When a young man he came to America to seek his fortune, settling in New Holstein. Later he was united in marriage to Jennie Radder and they moved on a farm that has since been their home. He was a hard working, industrious man ably assisted by a loving wife and they received much enjoyment of life besides gathering their share of worldly goods. Eight children were born to them; Mrs. John Ruh, Mrs. Jake Reichardt, Mrs. August Rabe, Mrs. Wm. Ott, Mrs. Fred Roesler, Henry of Collins, William living north of the village and Chas. of Kiel. SCHNUELLE cemetery #82 Mrs. Anna Schnuelle, aged 68, widow of the late Fred Schnuelle, passed away at 7:30 o’clock last week Wednesday night at the farm home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hagenow, in Rockville. She suffered a stroke two weeks ago from which she never recovered. Mrs. Schnuelle was born on November 27, 1874, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Thielen in Manitowoc. On October 30, 1901 she was married to Mr. Schnuelle of the town of Herman, and for five years after their marriage they resided in Kiel, and for 37 years they lived on a farm in the town of Schleswig. She was a member of the Frauenverein of the Women’s Guild of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, and of the Good Cheer Homemakers’ Club. Her husband preceded her in death November 30, 1941, and a son Harvey died on September 23, 1924. She is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. Frederick Hagenow; a granddaughter (private); one sister, Mrs. John Grun of Kenosha, and five brothers, Adolph Thielen of Racine, Charles of Westmount, Illinois, Peter of Valders, Henry and Gustave of Manitowoc. AUGUST SCHNUELLE cemetery #84 Former Resident Of Schleswig Is Called To Rest Kiel— August Schnuelle, 77, former Kiel and town of Schleswig resident, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been for the past nine days. Born March 22, 1865, on the Schnuelle homestead farm in the town of Herman, he was the son of the late Conrad Schnuelle and Wilhelmina Nagel. He was married to Miss Helena Balz, of the town of Schleswig, July 4, 1892, and she died in June, 1927. Surviving are five children, Edward of the town of Schleswig, Reuben of Sheboygan, Howard of Haven, Mrs. Arthur (Caroline) Raquet of West Bend, and Mrs. John (Hattie) Gries of the town of Newton; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Emma Wendling of Kiel; and one brother, Simon Schnuelle of Postville, Ia. Five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home, the Rev. E. L. ELLA SCHNUELL cemetery #33 Mrs. Charles H. Schnuell, 56, of Collins, died Friday morning at International Falls, Minnesota, while on a vacation trip. Mrs. Schnuell who was vacationing with her husband, was stricken with an apparent heart attack in their motel. The former Ella Rades was born in the town of Meeme, October 12, 1916, a daughter of Herman Rades and the late Hulda Fromm Rades. She attended the Pigeon River district school in the township. On April 8, 1939, she was married to Charles Schnuell in the Town of Herman. They lived in Kiel and Milwaukee and for the past 26 years in Collins. Mrs. Schnuell was formerly employed by the Hanson Glove Company in Kiel and her husband is a partner in the Union Brass Aluminum Foundry at Collins. Mrs Schnuell was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in the Town of Herman. Survivors include her husband; her father, of Ada; a brother, Harry, of Ada; and two sisters, Mrs. Edgar Barts, Kiel, and Mrs. Clarence Rabe, Collins. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethel Church with the Reverend Donald King, Pastor, officiating. Burial was in Knollwood Memorial Gardens near Manitowoc. A memorial fund in Mrs. Schnuell’s name has been established for Bethel United Church of Christ. - 1972


FRED S. SCHNUELLE cemetery #82 Fred S. Schnuelle, aged 72, passed away at 8 p.m. Sunday, at his home in Meggers. Mr. Schnuelle was born October 9, 1869, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Schnuelle. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Thielen of Manitowoc on October 20, 1901. Following their marriage the couple lived in this city for six years, and from here moved to their present farm, where they have lived for the past 34 years. Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Helen) Hagenow, at home; a granddaughter (private); two brothers, Simon of Iowa, and August of Haven, and a sister Mrs. Emma Wendling of the city. A son, Harvey, died on September 23, 1924, and five sisters and a brother have also preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted at the Meiselwitz Funeral home on Wednesday and services were conducted at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Mr. Schnuelle was a faithful member of this congregation. Burial was made in the Kiel Cemetery. No newspaper named, 1942


HENRY SCHNUELL cemetery #44 Henry F. Schnuell, aged 59, passed away at his home in Sheboygan Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. The deceased was born in the town of Schleswig on August 13, 181.(sic) He was united in marriage with Lydia Lau on January 17, 1909. After his marriage he operated a blacksmith shop in the village of Collins. Due to ill health, he retired and moved to Manitowoc in 1926. He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Freis of here, Mrs. Ed Siegel of Valders and Mrs. George Liska of Manitowoc; two sons, Charles of Kiel and Henry of Green Bay; four sisters, Mrs. August Rabe of Steinthal and Mrs. Jacob Reichert, Mrs. John Ruh of Kiel and Mrs. William Ott of Valders; two brothers, William of New Holstein and Carl of Manitowoc R. 3; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wattawa-Urbanek- Schlei Funeral Home in Manitowoc, Ninth and State streets, and at 2 o’clock at the First Germany Evangelical Lutheran church, with the Rev. HELENA SCHNUELLE cemetery #84 Funeral services for the late Mrs. August Schnuelle were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the St. Peters Reformed church at Kiel, and interment was made in the Rockville cemetery; the Rev. O Saewert officiating. The sad news of her death came as a complete shock, as she had been in good health until two weeks ago, when she was suddenly taken ill. She died early Friday morning. Her death was due to complications of a stroke which resulted in heart failure. Mrs. August Schnuelle, nee Lena Balz, was born in the town of Schleswig. She attained the age of 59 years, and is survived by her husband and 5 children, viz: Mrs. Arthur Raquet of Sheboygan; Edward Schnuelle, Grafton; Rueben, Howard and Hattie at home. Three grandchildren survive here; Helen and Gertrude Raquet and Edward Lloyd Schnuelle. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Fred Fluhr, Mrs. John Boege, Mrs. Carl Petzoldt, all of Kiel; two brothers. Nic. Balz of Kiel and John Balz of the town of Schleswig. HILDA I. SCHNUR cemetery #82 Mrs. Hilda Schnur, 74, of 618 St. Paul St., Kiel, widow of William, died early Sunday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1892, in Kiel, she was the daughter of the late Ernst and Mary Voland. She attended Kiel schools and on Oct. 25, 1913, married William Schnur at West Allis. The couple lived in Plymouth for 20 years before moving to Kiel 29 years ago. Mr. Schnur died in June, 1960. Mrs. Schnur was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel and G.U.G. Society of Kiel. Survivors are a son, Willard of Kiel; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Progar, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Herbert (Betty) Rohde, Plymouth; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a twin sister, Mrs. Hulda Schuler, of Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter United Church of Christ. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. WILLIAM N. SCHNUR cemetery #82 William N. Schnur, 71, of 618 St. Paul St., Kiel, died at his home Sunday night. Born May 25, 1889, at Chilton, he was a son of the late Mathew and Catherine Schaefer Schnur, received his education in the Chilton Parochial School, and moved to Kiel as a young man with his parents. On Oct. 25, 1913, he married Hilda Voland of Kiel at West Allis. After the marriage, the couple lived in Plymouth for 20 years and had lived in Kiel for the past 23 years where he operated a restaurant and tavern. For 14 years he worked as a machinist at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. in Kiel. He retired three years ago. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel, Fraternal Order of Eagles Plymouth Lodge, the Improved Order of Redmen Lodge of Kiel, and the 24 Hour Club of the lodge. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Doris) Progar of Sheboygan, Mrs. Herbert (Betty) Rhode of Plymouth; a son, Willard of Kiel; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Hanke, Mrs. Mary Pichett, Mrs. Catherine Lehfeld, all of Milwaukee, and a brother, Joseph of Sheboygan.
