ADELINDA (LINDA) SCHNELL Adelinda Schnell nee Kaltenbrun died May 16, 1941 Obituaries-SCHNELL-Mrs. Francis Schnell, 32, farm wife, died early this morning shortly after her husband found her in a granary on their farm home near Osman. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, who was called, said Mrs. Schnell had ended her life while suffering from a nervous breakdown. Her husband found her hanging in the granary and attempts to revive her failed. There will be no inquest, Mrs. Schnell, nee Adelinda Kaltenbrun, was born at St. Nazianz in 1909, and in 1932 was married to Francis Schnell. They located on a farm near Osman. Survivors are the widower, two sons, two daughters, mother, Mrs. Anna Kaltenbrun of St. Nazianz; a brother, Ambrose Jr., of St. Nazianz; two sisters, Mrs. Anton Nenahlo Jr., and Monica, both of St. Nazianz. She was a member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the home of Mrs. Anna Kaltenbrun of St. Nazianz, and at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Gregory's church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be removed to the Kaltenbrun Saturday from the Pfeffer funeral home. The rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:30. AGNES SCHNELL cemetery #40 Mrs. Edwin (Agnes) Schnell, 83, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died Friday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. The Rev. C. R. Rosenow will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell, nee Agnes Hecker, was born Jan. 2, 1893, in the Town of Newton, daughter of the late Ernst and Louis Born Hecker. She attended Newton schools and was a housewife. She was married to Edwin Schnell Nov. 11, 1916, at Newton. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include her husband, two sons, Kenneth, of Cleveland and Harold, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc; a daughter, Mrs. William (Jeanette) Hochkammer, of Rt. 3, Manitowoc, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two brothers- in-law and two sisters-in-law. ALWINA SCHNELL cemetery #40 Mrs. Louis J. Schnell, 84, of Liberty, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Thiel, in the village of Manitowoc Rapids. She made her home with her daughter the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Liberty. The Rev. Samuel Kugler will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Schnell was born Alvina Kahn in Germany in 1869 and at the age of 18 came to this country. She was married in Milwaukee in 1892 to Louis Schnell and a year later moved to the homestead farm in Liberty, where she resided for 60 years. Mr. Schnell died in 1942. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Thiel of Manitowoc Rapids, Mrs. Leonard Furhman of Newton and Mrs. Orley Halverson of Milwaukee; son, Walter, on the Liberty home farm; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. ANITA K. SCHNELL cemetery #81 Anita K Schnell, 81, formerly of 20325 County Highway X, Kiel, died early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2002 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. She had been a resident of Century Ridge, Chilton, since October of 2001. She is the former Anita Buchholz born Jan, 18, 1921 in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late William Sr. and Alma Perronne Buchholz. She attended Kiel schools. On March 5, 1941, she married Lester Schnell at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1976. Anita was employed at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for over 20 years until her retirement. The couple farmed on the family homestead in the Town of Schleswig all their married life. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, playing cards and collecting souvenir bells. Survivors include her eleven children. She is further survived by 16 grand- children, one great-grandson; two brothers, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. ANNA SCHNELL cemetery #83 Mrs. Anna Schnell Laid To Rest Tuesday A.M.; Passed Away Saturday Mrs. Anna Schnell, age 87, died at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan on Saturday night at 9:45 o'clock following a lengthy illness. The deceased was born April 10, 1860, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret Herr, in the town of Meeme. On Jan. 10, 1882, she was married to John Schnell, and the couple settled on a farm in the town of Eaton, now operated by a son, Andrew. For the past 30 years Mrs. Schnell made her home in this city. Survivors include 5 daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Loos, Loyal, Mrs. Anton (Mary) Schneider, Newton, Mrs. Frank (Emma) Utecht, Hales Corners, Mrs. Rose Menne, Kiel, and Mrs. Justin (Viola) Harkins, town of Russell; 2 sons, Henry of Roberts, Idaho, and Andrew of the town of Eaton; 36 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren, and a brother, Albert Herr, Greenwood. Mr. Schnell preceded his wife in death March 17, 1903. Two children also preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, and at 9:30 o'clock at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Khell officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell was a member of the Christian Mothers' society, and the group met at 7:30 p.m. Monday to recite the rosary.


ANTON SCHNELL, SR. (d. 1934) cemetery #21 Anton Schnell, Sr., aged 70, died suddenly Sunday evening at 8:30 o’clock at his home five miles west of St. Nazianz, in the town of Eden. Mr. Schnell was born on January 17, 1864, on the farm where he lived during his entire life. On June 6, 1895, he was married to Miss Margaret Basil of Whitelaw, who preceded him in death ten years ago. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Gregory’s church. The Rev. Fintan Holzknecht officiated and interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. Survivors are thirteen children: Mrs. John Kautzer, Kiel; Mrs. Joseph Hartmann, Mrs. Otto Trost, Mrs. George Nehrling, Gilbert Schnell, all of Sheboygan; Anton of School Hill; Roland, Herman, Louis, Leo, Elizabeth, Othomer and Meta, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bushmann of School Hill; Mrs. Joseph Weigle cf Marshfield; and two brothers, Adam of Marshfield and Joseph of St. Nazianz. Mr. Schnell was a memher of the Holy Name Society which met at his home Tuesday evening for the purpose of holding a vigil. ANTON SCHNELL (d. 1955) cemetery #21 Anton I. Schnell Takes His Life MANITOWOC—Anton I. Schnell, 55, of Rt. 2, Kiel, hanged himself by throwing a rope noose over a barn rafter and stepping off a hay rack in his barn Friday morning, Sheriff Lester Nichols reported. Schnell, whose wife said he had been in ill health, took his life while his wife was driving their children to school. She returned and couldn’t find her husband. Checking the farm yard, she found Schnell inside the barn. He left no message. Mrs. Schnell ran to a neighbor, Mrs. Herbert Wagner, for help, the sheriff said. Mrs. Wagner called him at 8:50 a.m. and the sheriff went to the farm with Coroner Dr. Theodore Teitgen, who pronounced Schnell’s death a suicide. Mr. Schnell was born in the Town of Eaton on April 10, 1900. He married the former Freida Kautzer at St. Nazianz on Nov. 18, 1924, and the couple lived on a farm in Eaton for three years before moving to the Town of Schleswig. Surviving besides the wife are two daughters, two sons, five brothers, Louis of Eaton, Leo of Liberty, Othmer of Milwaukee, Roland of Schleswig and Gilbert of Sheboygan; three sisters, Miss Elizabeth Schnell of Eaton and Mrs. Joseph Hartman and Mrs. Otto Trost of Sheboygan; and a grandchild. ARLINE SCHNELL cemetery #21 Mrs. Leo (Arline) Schnell, 59, of St. Nazianz, died Wednesday evening at Holy Extended Care Facility, Manitowoc, after a prolonged illness. The former Arline Miller was born December 20, 1921, in Kiel, a daughter of the late Edward and Louisa Klien Miller. She attended Kiel schools. On October 26, 1946, she married Leo Schnell in Kiel. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors are her husband; two sons, five grandchildren; four brothers Arno, of Elkhart Lake, Allen and Elroy, both of Kiel, and Carlos, of Millersville; and a sister, Mrs Ralph Bruckner, of Kiel A funeral Mass was held Saturday at St. Gregory Catholic Church. St. Nazianz. The Reverend Lester Groeschl, pastor, was celebrant of the Mass. Burial was in the parish cemetery. AUGUST C. SCHNELL cemetery #44 August C. Schnell, 87, of 2016 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient a week. Mr. Schnell was born Oct. 13, 1875, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Adam and Marie Willert Schnell. He married Emma E. Pingel of Rantoul, Calumet County, May 2, 1912, and the couple established residence on the homestead farm in the Town of Liberty. The couple retired four years ago and moved to Manitowoc. Mr. and Mrs. Schnell observed the golden anniversary of their wedding in 1962. He was a past member of the Town of Liberty Webster School Board and a member of Holstein-Friesian Assn. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. George O’Neil of Rt. 1, Newton, and Mrs. Erwin Wollersheim of Kiel; five grandchildren and a great grandchild. AUGUSTA SCHNELL cemetery #40 MRS. AUGUSTA SCHNELL DIED YESRERDAY Mrs. Augusta Schnell, wife of Louis A, Schnell, South Fourteenth street, who moved into the city from a farm in Liberty, died at 2 o'clock p.m. yesterday after, an illness of about two months from heart trouble. Mrs. Sehnell was born in town Liberty in 1859 and celebrated her 50th birthday last Dec. 31. Her maiden name was Catherine Schnell and she was married to Louis Schnell in 1884. There are no children surviving, the couple, being childless. There are five brothers and four sisters survivlng, however. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed. Francis Rose will officiate and burial will be (illegible-b.m.l.) Mrs. Schnell, nee Barbara Igl, was born Aug. 5, 1884 in Germany, daughter of the late Frank and Teresa Fischer Igl. She was married to William Schnell, Aug. 17, 1905, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Sheboygan. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman. Survivors include two sons, Raymond of Manitowoc, Edward, of Milwaukee; two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Kuchera, of Manitowoc, Mrs. Alvis (Alice) Salm, of Rt. 1, Newton; eight grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on March 7, 1933. Two sons, Francis and Eugene, five brothers and seven sisters also preceded her in death. CARL F. SCHNELL cemetery #40 Carl F. Schnell, 85, of Rt.1, Manitowoc, died Saturday morning at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. The Rev. C.R. Rosenow will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Schnell was born Oct. 24, 1889, at Eaton, son of the late Carl and Johanna Radder Schnell. He attended schools in the Town of Eaton. He married Ella Ott, Nov. 20, 1915, in the Town of Liberty. He farmed his earlier years and retired from Lakeside Packing in 1980. Survivors include his wife; a son, Harvey of School Hill; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Mildred) Lorfeld, of Spring Valley; a sister, Mrs. Johanna Ott, of New Holstein; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. CHRISTINA SCHNELL cemetery #83 Rites Held Tuesday for Mrs. Henry Schnell Funeral services for Mrs. Christina (Henry) Schnell, 82, were held Tuesday morning from the S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Kheil in charge. Mrs. Schnell died at the home of her son, Joseph, in Schleswig township, about noon Saturday. She was born in Rhine township, September 4, 1868. She married Henry Schnell of Eden, May 26, 1894, and they lived in Bakersfield until 1901 when they moved to the home farm in Schleswig. She was a member of S. S. Peter and Paul church in Kiel, and a member of the Christian Mothers' society of the church. Survivors include one son, Joseph on the homestead; two daughters, Mrs. William Dorn of Schleswig and Miss Catherine Schnell of Manitowoc; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Her husband passed away in January, 1933, and one daughter also preceded her in death.


CLARA A. SCHNELL cemetery #83 Mrs. Joseph H. Schnell, 58, R. 2, Kiel, died at her farm home in the Town of Schleswig early today following an apparent heart attack. The former Clara Schneider was born April 12, 1903, in the Town of Centerville, a daughter of the late Frank and Wilhelmina Schneider and attended St. Wendel Catholic School. On June 30, 1925, she was married to Joseph H. Schnell of the Town of Schleswig at St. Wendel's Catholic Church. Following their marriage, the couple settled on the Schnell homestead farm. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, and the Christian Mothers Society of the church. Survivors are her husband; a daughter and four sons (names omitted for privacy); seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Magdeline Schneider of rural Cleveland, Mrs. Math Meyer of rural Kiel, Mrs. Lester Graef of Sheboygan, and one brother, Edwin of Kiel. One brother also preceded her in death. Services will be held in Kiel at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church following brief rites at 9:30 at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home. The Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, will be the celebrant of the requiem Mass and burial will be in the parish cemetery. ELISABETHA SCHNELL cemetery #21 From Der Nord Westen, 08 Aug 1907: (From the correspondent in St. Nazianz, 05 Aug.) Mrs. Elizabeth Schnell of Steinthal was buried here on the 29th. She was 85. Her husband died 9 years ago and her son, John Schnell, died about 5 years ago. ELNORA SCHNELL cemetery #81 Elnora Schnell, 73, a resident of the Hochkammer Group Home, 5908 Center Road, Town of Newton, formerly of Kiel, died Tuesday evening, December 4, at Holy Family Medical Center in Manitowoc. She was born August 15, 1917, in Kiel, daughter of the late William and Emma Voss Schnell. She attended grade school in the Town of Schleswig. She was employed for a number of years at the former Hanson’s Glove Factory in Kiel and at the Kestell Furniture in New Holstein. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig and the Ladies Aid. Survivors are two sisters-in-law, Anita Schnell of rural Kiel and Viola Ninmer of Kiel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, one half-brother and one niece. ELROY SCHNELL cemetery #21 Sgt. Elroy Schnell arrived Tuesday at the home of his father, Francis Schnell, and grandmother, Mrs. Barbara Schnell near Osman, having been released from service at Fort Sheridan, Ill., Dec. 29. Sergeant Schnell was enlisted Feb. 17, 1953, and received his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif. Before leaving on overseas assignment to Korea Oct. 1, 1953, he received six weeks instruction at an engineering school in Japan to meet requirements under combat conditions. Out of a group of 300 men Sergeant Schnell was selected by the commanding general to have charge of redecorating and upholstery for the officer’s lounge. He also did interior decorating of the chapel erected by GI’s in Korea. Thursday evening, a welcome party was held at the Schnell home. Present to greet the returning serviceman (were many friends and neighbors/names edited for privacy). Jan. 11, 1955, page M-11 *********** Returned Soldier Takes His Life—MANITOWOC Elroy Schnell 21-yead-old returned service man, was found dead by his father in the granary of their Rt. 1, Valders, farm near Osman at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Coroner Dr, Theodore Teitgen said. The coroner attributed the death to suicide. The youth put a .22 caliber rifle shot through his temple and death was instantaneous. After his Army discharge at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. On Dec. 29, Schnell arrived last Tuesday at the home of his father, Francis, and his grandmother, Mrs. Barbara Schnell, family friends and neighbors welcomed him home at a party there last Thursday. Dr. Teitgen said the young man was in good spirits the day of his death, and spent the afternoon out with friends. He was supposed to start work with a Manitowoc painting contractor Wednesday morning, the coroner added. Schnell and his father did the chores on the farm, located two miles north and a mile west of Osman. They finished about 7 p.m. and the young man disappeared. His father began looking for him. And found the body in the upstairs granary with the rifle at his side. In the Army, Schnell achieved the rank of sergeant. After he was sent overseas Oct. 1, 1953, he received six weeks instruction at an engineering school in Japan. Out of a group of 300 men, he was selected by the commanding general to have charge of redecorating and upholstery for the officers lounge. He also did the interior decoration of a chapel erected by the GIs in Korea, where he served 18 months. At his welcome home party last Thursday night, Sgt. Schnell showed slides taken in Korea and Japan during his service period. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home here and at 10 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman, The Rev. John Baum will officiate and burial will be in St. Gregory Cemetery at St. Nazianz. Military rites will be provided at the grave by the American Legion Post No. 477 of St. Nazianz. EMMA SCHNELL cemetery #81 Elderly Resident Dies Thursday Mrs. William Schnell, age 83, who lived at 717 Third Street, Kiel died Thursday morning at her home after a short illness. The former Emma Voss was born December 25, 1883 in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Ernest and Friedricke Bachkus Voss. She attended district schools. On October 2, 1913, she was married to William Schnell of the Town of Eaton at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig until Mr. Schnell’s death in 1960, Mrs. Schnell then moved to Kiel. Mrs. Schnell was a member of Bethlehem UCC in the Town of Schleswig and a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include one son, Lester, on the homestead farm in the Town of Schleswig; a daughter, Miss Elnora of Kiel; 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and eight sisters. FRANCES WILLIAM SCHNELL cemetery #43 Francis W. Schnell, 54, of 926 Washington St., Manitowoc died at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient nine days. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. Alfred Pritzl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Schnell was born Aug. 22, 1960 (sic) in the Town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, son of William and Barbara Igl Schnell. His father preceded him in death. He married Linda Kaltenbrun in 1932 and she preceded him in death in 1941. He operated a farm for many years at Liberty until Jan. 1, 1960, when he moved to Manitowoc. He married Mrs. Flora Reilly April 31, 1960, at Manitowoc. Schnell, 88, formerly of Kiel, died Friday evening, Dec. 7, 2001 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehab Center where she had been a resident for the past nine months. She is the former Hattie Kautzer, born June 2, 1913 in the town of Eaton, daughter of the late John Sr. and Bridget (Fitzeck) Kautzer. Hattie attended Kiel schools. On April 23, 1929, she married Roland F. Schnell at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in St. Nazianz and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1994. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig, moving back to Kiel in 1992. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. HENRY SCHNELL cemetery #83 Henry Schnell Is Called To Rest At Home Near Kiel. Kiel. - Henry Schnell, aged 69, passed away at his farm home two and one-half miles northeast of Kiel this morning at 5:30 o'clock. Death was caused by dropsy and other ailments from which he had suffered for several months. The deceased was born on June 26, 1863, in the town of Eaton. He was married twice. His marriage to his second wife, Miss Christina Gilsdorff from the town of Rhine, was performed on May 20, 1895. After their marriage the couple located on the farm where they spent their entire life with the exception of five years, when they resided in the city of Kiel. Four children were born of the second union. One daughter, Mrs. John Hartmann, passed away Nov. 11, 1920. The wife and two daughters and one son who survive are Mrs. William Dorn, near Kiel, Catherine and Joseph, both at home. There are also eight grandchildren; three brothers, Adam of Marshfield; Anton and Joseph, both of the town of Eaton; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Weigel, Marshfield, Mrs. Frank Buschmann, School Hill. Mr. Schnell was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. HENRY A. SCHNELL cemetery #81 Henry A. Schnell is Called to Rest Saturday Night Henry A. Schnell, aged 81, for many years a cobbler in Steinthal, passed away Saturday evening at 6:25 o’clock at the Anna M. Reiss Home where he had been living for the past eleven years. Mr. Schnell was born in New York September 4, 1853, the son of Frederick and Caroline Schnell. At the age of one and a half years, he came to the town of Eaton with his parents, where the Schnell family resided for many years. On November 17, 1882, he was married to Miss Emma Radder also of the town of Eaton, and the couple continued making their home in that township. There were no children. Mrs. Schnell preceded her husband in death on July 23, 1908. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home at Kiel and at 2 o’clock at the Bethlehem Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August H. Hammann will officiate and interment will be made in the adjoining church cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home from now until the hour of the services. She was born April 5, 1913, in the Town of Wilson, daughter of the late James and Emma Mills Garbe. She attended district schools. On August 5, 1939, she was married to Mr. Schnell of the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, in the Town of Wilson. They farmed in Schleswig. The deceased was 48 years old. Mrs. Schnell was born in Town Schleswig, Manitowoc county, October 18, 1882, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Voss. She was married to Otto Schnell, who survives with two children, Fred at home and Eldora, now Mrs. Matzinck. IDA SCHNELL cemetery #70 Mrs. Lester A. Schnell. 62, of Rt. 3, Town of Nweton, Manitowoc County, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at home after a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. The Rev. A. T. Degner will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell, nee Ida Hemb, was born July 7, 1905, in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late George and Rosalie Jerzweski Hemb. She was married to Lester Schnell April 18, 1928, at Cleveland. The couple owned and operated the English Lake Dairy Farm. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, (private), a son, (private), a brother, William of Cleveland, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Karstaedt Sr., of Osman and Mrs. John Goedeke Sr., of Sheboygan and ten grandchildren. JOACHIM SCHNELL cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 04 Jan. 1900: Joachim Schnell, a well-known and respected resident of Town Liberty, accidentally drank from a bottle containing lye a few weeks ago. The 79-yr. old man must have suffered terrible pain until Thurs. last week when death overtook him. The Schnell family, consisting of three brothers, settled in Town Liberty in 1849 when it was nothing but a wilderness and the wolves and foxes said goodnight to everybody. Through hard work the brothers beat back the wilderness and established a homestead and the family now belongs among the most eminent in the area. The recently deceased Joachim Schnell leaves a widow and 5 children. ********* [cause: old age]


JOHANN F. SCHNELL cemetery #40 KILLING OF PIG RESULTS IN DEATH OF MANITOWOC MAN John Schnell, a well known Manltowoc county farmer died at his home following a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered as a result of overexertion. Responsibility for Mr. Schnell's death can be laid to a pig. While engaged in butchering on the farm, one of the pigs selected for killing became refractory and Mr. Schnell while attempting to hold the animal and complete the work of dispatching it, suffered a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain from which death later resulted. Mr Schnell was 60 years of age and had enjoyed robust health all his life and his sudden death is a great shock to all who knew him. He was widely known in the section where he made his home. Mr Schnell was born February 4, 1902, on route one, Kiel, and on October 16, 1928, he married Miss Lorina Riesterer, Mr. Schnell followed the trade of a carpenter. He 1s survived by his wife; four children, his mother, Mrs. Theresa Schell(sic) of St. Nazianz; five sisters, Mrs. Julius Mayr (Kate) of Morrisonville; Mrs. Alton McCarty, (Rose) of Sheboygan, Mrs. Clemens Schwoerer (Olive) of Kiel, route one; Mrs. Ray Stahl (Viola) of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Bernard Schwoerer (Lorena) of Newton, route one; four brothers, Henry and Norbert, Chilton, route four, Theodore of Ladysmith and Joseph of St. Nazianz. JOSEPH SCHNELL cemetery #21 Joseph Schnell, Sr., 72, lifelong resident of the county, died Monday night at the farm home in Eaton, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Gregory's Catholic church in St. Nazianz. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Schnell was born at Eaton in 1870 and married Miss Theresa Singer of that town. They located on a farm in the town now occupied by his son, Joseph Jr. He was a member of the Holy Name society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
