ELLA RIEHN cemetery #82 Mrs. Ella A. Riehn, 80, widow of Paul, 908 Fourth Street, Kiel, died at her home last Thursday afternoon. She was boin June 23, 1895, in the Town of Rhine, daughter of Carl and Wilhelminia Mauk. She attended district school in the township. On April 28, 1920, she married Mr. Riehn at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Rhine. The couple lived in Kiel. Mr. Riehn preceded her in death on June 13, 1947. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Women's Guild of the church, and the G.U.G. Germania Society. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Juno Pezoldt, Milwaukee; a son, Merlin, Kiel; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Reverend John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Kiel Cemetery.

HULDA RIEHN cemetery #82 Mrs. Hulda Riehn, 75, died early today at the farm home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Riehn, one mile west of Howards Grove. Born Jan, 1, 1873, in Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Renn, the deceased was married to Herman Riehn in Germany and came to the United States with her husband in 1902. The couple settled in Kiel for several years and then moved to a farm in the town of Rhine where they lived until the death of Mr. Riehn in 1922. Since that time, Mrs. Riehn made her home with her children. Survivors include the one son, Herman of the town of Herman; three daughters. Mrs. Edward (Minnie) Reineck, Kiel, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Fiedler, town Meeme, and Mrs. Walter (Esther) Doro, Town Rhine; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Fred Kattreh, Kiel. One son died in infancy and another son, Paul, preceded her in death in 1947. Funeral services will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel. The Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed church, will officiate, and burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. No newspaper named, December 9, 1948


HENRY RIEMER cemetery #63 Henry Riemer, 72, of 158 W. Main St., Mishicot, died Friday morning at Manitowoc County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. The Rev. Herbert Kesting will officiate and burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery. Mr. Riemer was born March 4, 1899, in the Town of Gibson, son of the late Frank and Mary Plautz Riemer. He moved with his family to Athens, Wis., in 1918. He married Gertrude Dettinger Nov. 12, 1921, at Athens. The couple moved to the Town of Gibson where they were engaged in farming. He had been employed for many years at Manitowoc Engineering Co. retiring in 1964. Following his retirement they moved to the Village of Mishicot. Mr. Riemer was a member of the International Association of Machinists No. 516 and a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. Survivors include his wife, a son, Clarence of Marinette, four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jean) MacDonald of Mishicot, Mrs. Grant (Betty) VanEss of Two Rivers, Mrs. Chester (MaryAnn) Schultz of Rt. 2, Two Rivers, and Miss Shirley of Green Bay, a brother, Art of Manitowoc, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Nickles and Mrs. Elenore Dahl of Medford, and Mrs. August (Leona) Fiedler of Two Rivers, and seven grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Friends may call at Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot, after 3 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday and then at the church until the time of service. EDWARD RIESS, DR. cemetery #82 E. P. Riess, 82, of 336 Geele Ave., a doctor of naturopathy, died Saturday afternoon at Morningside Nursing Home after a lingering illness. Born in the Town of Rhine on Nov. 4, 1893, he was a son of Fred and Louise Burkhardt Riess. His marriage to Adeline Schultz took place Jan. 1, 1916, in the Town of Schleswig. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. In 1923, they came to Sheboygan, where he began his practice in naturopathy, a practice that continued until 1975, when he retired because of ill health. He held degrees from American College of Mechano-Therapy, 1912; National Post Graduate School, Foman System, 1921 and eye, ear, nose and throat in 1922; National College of Chiropractic, degrees in X-ray and spinography and doctor of chiropractic, 1922; Lindlahr College of Natural Theropeutic, 1927; National College of Drugless Physicians with degrees in drugless therapy in 1931 and naturopathy in 1934. He was a member of the American Association-Physical Research; past president of the American Naturopathic Association and Wisconsin Naturopathic Association. He was also a member of the North Carolina Naturopathic Association and in 1950 organized the Wisconsin Natural Health Association. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Milton (Lorena) Pomerich, Orlando, Fla.; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; a brother, William of Sheboygan and a sister, Mrs. Ida Kuhn of rural Elkhart Lake. A daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Nickel- Lippert Funeral Home, the Rev. John Konig, director of Ridge Crest Retirement Home of Davenport, Ia., officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. ERNESTINE RIESTERER cemetery #57 Ernestine Riesterer, age 84, formerly of School Hill, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 21, 2007, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. She was the former Ernestine Winter, born Dec. 13, 1922, in St. Anna, daughter of the late John and Minnie Krebsbach Winter. She attended St. Ann Catholic School. On May 15, 1946, Ernestine was united in marriage to Matthew A. Riesterer at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna. Her husband: Matthew, preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1995. Ernestine worked at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, for 10 years until her retirement. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, and the Christian Women Society. She also belonged to a number of card clubs. Ernestine enjoyed spending time with her family, playing sheepshead and gardening. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Walter Winter; one sister: Irene (Art) Reith; and one son-in-law: Bruce Meyer. EVELYN RIESTERER cemetery #32 Evelyn L. Riesterer, age 92, a resident of Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, died Monday evening, August 27, 2007, at the center. She was born May 19, 1915, in Louis Corners, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Waldo and Erna (Marquardt) Graf. Evelyn was a graduate of Kiel High School, Class of 1933. On December 30, 1936, she married John C. Riesterer in St. Nazianz. He preceded her in death September 22, 1988. Evelyn and her sister-in-law, Mary Riesterer, were the bookkeepers for the company her husband co-founded in 1931 with Frank Riesterer and Henry Schnell, known as Cedar Creek Service Station, which later became Riesterer & Schnell, Inc. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Collins, and the Cedar Creek Homemakers. JOHN RIESTERER (d. 1946) cemetery #21 John Riesterer, 75, died Saturday night at the farm home in Eaton, west of the village of St. Nazianz. He was born on the homestead farm in 1871 and in 1894 married Miss Rose Anholt of near Kiel. He was a member of St. Gregory's parish in St. Nazianz and a charter member of the Catholic order of Foresters and the first chief ranger, which office he held several years. He was also a member of the Holy Name society. Mr. Riesterer served 45 years as a member of the schoolboard of Joint District No.8 of Eaton. Mrs. Riesterer died in 1938. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Clemens Endries of route 1, Kiel, Mrs. John Schnell and Mrs. Joseph Schnell of St. Nazianz; nine sons, Frank and John Jr., of route 4, Chilton, Peter and Reuben of St. Nazianz, Anton, William, Joseph and Herman of route 1, Kiel, Stephen of route 1, Mishicot; sister, Mrs. Dorothy Mailman of Sheboygan; brother Simon of Janesville. There are also 48 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory's church, St. Nazianz, the Rev. Fintan Holzknecht officiating. LESTER J. RIESTERER cemetery #21 Lester J. Riesterer, age 86, a former St. Nazianz resident, currently of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, died on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at Shady Lane. He was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in the town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Hanke) Riesterer. Lester served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with Hamachek of Manitowoc for many years, and then was employed with Millers of St. Nazianz, retiring in 1983. Lester was a member of the Lions Club in St. Nazianz and was an active volunteer for the Salvadoran Mission for many years and also the American Legion. He is survived by many family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Michael Bigley, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. MARY RIESTERER cemetery #21 Mrs. Reuben Riesterer Dies at Hospital Monday Mrs. Reuben Riesterer, 55, of St. Nazianz, died Monday night at Holy Family hospital where she had been taken that afternoon after being stricken at home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory's Catholic church in St. Nazianz. The Rev. Denis Cooney will celebrate the requiem mass. She was born Jan. 27, 1906, at Tony, Wis., the daughter of the late John and Anna Hopman Strop, and was married at Ladysmith Oct. 20, 1925, to Robert Reuben Riesterer. Her husband died in February, 1961. MARY RIESTERER cemetery #21 Mrs. Anton (Mary) Riesterer, 71, of Rt.1, Kiel, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home, and at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Cyril Dikrell(sic), S.D.S., will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Riesterer, nee Mary Fessler, was born July 1, 1902, at St. Nazianz, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Meyer Fessler. She attended St. Gregory School and was a housewife all her life. She was married to Anton Riesterer July 12, 1921, at St. Nazianz, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in 1971. They farmed at rural Kiel until their retirement in 1964. She was a member of St. Gregory Christian Mothers Sodality. Survivors include her husband; five sons, four daughters, three brothers, Frank, of Kewaunee, Carl of rural Kiel and Peter, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Alex (Frances) Woelfel Sr., of rural Kiel; 47 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. PETER J. RIESTERER cemetery #21 Peter J. Riesterer, 88, of St. Nazzianz, died Monday morning at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. He was born Oct. 29, 1897, in the Town of Eaton (Manitowoc County), a son of the late John and Rosa Anhalt Riesterer. He attended St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Nazianz. On Nov. 18, 1919, he married Elizabeth Hanke at Charlestown. The couple farmed in the Town of Eaton and he employed in construction. Mrs. Riesterer preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Survivors include two sons both of St. Nazianz; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five brothers; and a sister. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. ROSA RIESTERER cemetery #21 Mrs. John Riesterer, aged 62, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at her home, one and one-half mile west of St. Nazianz, after a lingering illness of more than ten years duration. Mrs. Riesterer, nee Rose Anhalt, was born March 26, 1876 in the town of Rhine, and on September 11, 1894 was married to John Riesterer. After their marriage the couple settled on the present farm homestead. Survivors are the following: Her husband, John Riesterer, Sr., three daughters, Mrs. Clemens Endries, Kiel R. 2, Mrs. John Schnell, St. Nazianz and Mrs. Joseph Schnell, Kiel R. 2; nine sons, Frank and John of Chilton, R. 4, Peter and Anton of Kiel R. 1, Robert, Joseph and William of St. Nazianz, and Herman and Stephen at home; seven sisters, Mrs. John Buse of Glenbeulah, Mrs. Isadore Meyer of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Fred Altenberger of Sheboygan, Mrs. Charles Mahloch of Brillion, Mrs. John Bermke of Plymouth, Mrs. Edward Schad of St. Nazianz, and Mrs. Alex Gerhard of Kiel R. 1; four brothers, John Anhalt of Plymouth, Frank Anhalt of Schleswig, and Peter and Joseph Anhalt of St. Nazianz; and 34 grandchildren. THERESA ANN RIESTERER Theresa Ann Riesterer, age 53, a resident of Manitowoc Health Care Center, died early Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005, at the center. Theresa was born July 22, 1951 in Manitowoc, daugther of the late Joseph and Helen (Gries) Riesterer. She was a member of the Special Olympics and loved music, dancing and animals. Theresa also enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Riesterer. Private family services will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gregory Coulthard with burial at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Manitowoc Health Care Center Angels Association or the Special Olympics. ARTHUR RIETBROCK cemetery #40 A funeral services for the family and relatives will be held Thursday for Arthur Rietbrock, 83, of R. 1 Elkhart Lake, retired Town of Herman farmer, who died Tuesday. The Rev. Dean Miller, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ, Herman, will officiate, and burial will be in the Bethel cemetery, town of Meeme. Born on Dec. 18, 1887, on the Rietbrock farm in Herman, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Rietbrock. On March 20, 1911, he married the former Minnie Voss. The couple operated the Rietbrock home farm. Mrs. Rietbrock died in 1963. He continued to make his home at the farm with a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rietbrock. He was a life member of Bethel UCC. Survivors include two sons, Norman and Reuben of R. 1, New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Konz of R. 1, Elkhart Lake; 14 grand- children and 19 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. George Stauss of R. 1, Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Ralph Berner of Sheboygan and Mrs. Dale Negley of Columbus, Ohio. HERMAN RIETBROCK cemetery #56 Herman A. Rietbrock, 61, a well known Town of Herman farmer, living at Rt. 1, Elkhart Lake, Sheboygan County, died Saturday afternoon at home after a heart attack. Funeral services will be Tuesday at Bethel United Church of Christ, Herman, the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Rietbrock was born May 2, 1899, on the Rietbrock homestead farm at Herman, son of the late Andrew and Louise Meyer Rietbrock. He was educated in the district school of the township. He married Viola Hartmann Jan. 9, 1925, in the Town of Rhine, Sheboygan County, and they took up residence on the Rietbrock farm. Mr. Rietbrock was a member of Bethel Church and a former elder. A grandson and sister preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; a son, (private); a daughter, (private); a brother, William of Herman; a sister, Mrs. Annie Spindler of Beechwood, Sheboygan County, and a granddaughter. LOUISE RIETBROCK cemetery #56 MRS. RIETBROCK DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Mrs. Andrew Rietbrock 69, died Saturday at the farm home in Ada, Sheboygan County. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon from the Bethel Reformed church in the town of Herman, Sheboygan county. Mrs. Rietbrock’s death followed an illness of more than 30 years. Born Louise Meyer in Germany she came to Sheboygan County with her parents and married Andrew Rietbrock in 1886. Survivors are the widower, daughter, two sons, a sister and brother. WILHELM RIETBROCK cemetery #56 William Rietbrock(sic), 83, life-long resident of town of Herman, who died Monday at St. Nicholas hospital, where he had been a patient since March 7, will be held Thursday at the home of a son, Arthur, in Ada and at Bethel Reformed church, town of Herman. The Rev. William Bollman, pastor, and Professor Ernest Traeger of the Mission House of Franklin will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Rietbrock was born on Feb. 24, 1849, in Westphalen, Germany. At the age of four years he immigrated to America. In 1879 he married Miss Elizabeth Bender and the couple located on a farm in the town of Herman, seven miles east of Kiel. For a number of years he rented the farm to his sons, Louis and Arthur, and nine years ago he sold it to his son Arthur. Eight children were born to the union of whom two children died in their youth. His wife preceded in death in 1897. In 1899 Mr. Rietbrock was married a second time to Miss Christina Haase of Sheboygan, who preceded him in death in 1922. Two children were born to them by his second marriage. Survivors are eight children as follows; Mrs. Henry M????, Mrs. George Strauss and Mrs. Peter Adam of the town of Rhine, Louis Rietbrock, of the town of Herman, Arthur of Ada, and William of North Dakota, all children by the first marriage, and Mrs. Albert Eimmermann and Mrs. Dale ???? of Akron, Ohio, children of the second marriage. He is also survived by one brother, Andreas, of the town of Herman and one sister, Mrs. Henry Meyer of the town of Rhine, and 24 grandchildren. Sheboygan Press, March 23, 1932


WILHELMINE RIETBROCK cemetery #40 MISS RIETBROCK AGED CLEVELAND RESIDENT, DIES Miss Minnie Rietbrock, 72, a life-long resident of the town of Herman, died Saturday afternoon at the home of her nephew, Louis Rietbrock, Cleveland, R. 1. Miss Rietbrock was born in Germany but came to the United States as a child and spent her lifetime in the neighborhood in which she died. She is survived by two brothers, William and Andrew Rietbrock and a sister, Mrs. Henry Meyer, town of Herman as well as a number of more distant relatives. The funeral is to take place Tuesday from the house followed by a service at Bethel church, town of Herman, conducted by the Rev. Thiele. Interment will be in Bethel cemetery. AUGUST RIETZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 11 Feb. 1909: Death Saturday evening, following a long and painful illness, of August Rietz, an old and well-known resident of our city. Rietz came from Germany to Manitowoc in the 60's with his parents and has remained here ever since. For many years he operated a shoemaker shop on South 10th Street. He fell ill recently and suffered such pain from that illness that one may consider his passing as a release. The 64-year old man leaves a widow and 4 sons. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the Lutheran Church. [he is the son of Friedrich & Friedericke Rietz who are buried in W2-189-1]

Man Had Never Before Been Ill Say Friends Apparently strong and healthy up to two weeks ago, when following an examination which developed that he was suffering from tuberculosis, Louis Riha, a town of Carleton man who entered the Maple Crest sanatorium at Whitelaw, a week ago, died there last night. Mr. Riha had not been ill a day during his life, his friends say, and his death will come as a great shock. RIHA, 60, DIES AT HOME Funeral will Be Held Here On Saturday In ill health for the past 14 months and seriously ill for the last two weeks, Mrs. Frank Riha, 60, for many years a resident of the county, died at her home at 2006 Thirteenth street at 9:40 o'clock this morning. Funeral services will be held in the C.J. Jansky funeral home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. W.G. Haase, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating. Interment will be in Forest View cemetery. The body will remain in the funeral home until burial. Mrs. Riha, nee Mary Mose, was born in Bohemia Dec. 5, 1878, daughter of the late Martin and Mary Mose. She immigrated to this country with her parents at the age of eight and settled on a farm in the town of Mishicot, near Tisch Mills. Forty-two years ago last December she was married at Mishicot to Frank Riha who survives her. After their marriage they made their residence in Chicago, living in that city for 12 years. The family then moved to the county where Mr. Riha operated a tavern at Zanders for a year, and later purchased a farm in the town of Mishicot where they lived 26 years. Six years ago the family came to this city. Besides her husband, Mrs. Riha leaves six daughters, Mrs. Anna Krezek of Two Creeks, Mrs. Lillian Wilsman, this city, Mrs. Frances Auties of Chicago, Mrs. Marion Kreschek of this city, Mrs. Rose Flanagan of Chicago and Mrs. Agnes Rossi of this city, and three sons, Frank of Mishicot, Edward of the town of Two Rivers and Adolph Riha at home. ANNA ERICKSON RIIS cemetery #2 DEATH FAST DEPLETING RANKS. Mrs. Andrew Riss (sic), Another Pioneer Settler, Dead at Jerpen. With the death of Mrs. Anna Riss, wife of Andrew Riss, at Jerpen Saturday evening Manitowoc county loses another of its pioneers. Mrs. Riss was ill but one short week and death was due in a complication of internal troubles. Deceased was born in Norway, December 24, 1823 and was married to the husband, who with three children still survives her, in 1853. Four years later the family immigrated to this country and immediately took up their residence in this county, residing continuously in the home where the death occurred Saturday. The death comes as a sad blow as Mrs. Riss had been in good health until but a short time ago and great preparations had been made for the celebration of the golden anniversary of the couple's wedding which would have taken place this fall. Beside the husband the three children who survive her are Mrs. M. Sullivan and Mrs. T. Johnson, of Jerpen and Mrs. K. Jome, of Door County. He had settled in Kings Bridge in 1847 and lived there until moving to Menominee a year ago. The body was brought to Kings Bridge and buried there Sun. afternoon under the direction of the Local Post of the G.A.R., of which the deceased was a member. The deceased was born 04 June 1830 in Brooklyn, New York, and came to Two Rivers in 1868. He is survived by his sorrowing widow, one son and one daughter. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. ARNO RINGEL cemetery #82 Arno R. Ringel, 88, formerly of 1537 North Ave., and a resident of Meadowview Manor Nursing Home for two years, died there Sunday evening. Mr. Ringel was born May 16, 1894, in Kiel, son of Paul and Minnie Ruh Ringel. On March 7, 1914, he married Laura Wriedt in Kiel. The couple moved to Sheboygan in 1924. Mrs. Ringel died March 1, 1981. Mr. Ringel was a self-employed carpenter-contractor for most of his life, retiring in 1954. He was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Richter of Sheboygan; two sons, Norman of Morgantown, West. Va., and David of Waldo; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Nickel- Lippert Funeral Home. The Rev. Ruben Grosshuesch, pastor of Ebenezer UCC, will officiate. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday until the time of services. A. EDMUND RINGEL cemetery #82 The death of Edmund Ringel was recorded in our last issue, the news having reached us as we were about to go to press. Further particulars concerning the young man's life and death are given as follows: Edmund A. Ringel was born at Elkhart Lake on the 4th day of February, 1890. He was educated in the Elkhart Lake graded school and attended the Plymouth high school from which he graduated. While attending the high school he was an apprentice as a barber and later followed this trade. Mr. Ringel was married to Miss Lucy Warner of Plymouth, on Oct. 8, 1914 at St. Paul's Episcopal church. They moved to Winona, Minn., to reside, where Mr. Ringel worked as a barber for a while, later establishing himself in business. He conducted his parlors until Oct. 18th, when he was taken ill with a very bad cold, which later developed into pneumonia, causing his death on Tuesday at 5:30 o'clock in the morning. He is survived by his wife, a little daughter aged 3 years, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ringel and one brother Arno in Kiel. Mrs. Paul Ringel, his mother, went to Winona when her son was taken ill and faithfully remained at his bedside night and day until the end. PAUL RINGEL cemetery #82 P. Ringel Succumbs at Sheboygan Friday Paul Ringel, aged 87, a former resident of Kiel and Elkhart Lake, passed away at the home of his sone, Arno, in Sheboygan on Friday. He had made his home there for the past ten years. The deceased was born July 2, 1861, in the town of Rhine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nic. Ringel, Sr. He was married to Mrs. Nic Ringel, Jr., nee Minnie Ruh on Jan. 2, 1894, and she passed away ten years ago. Also preceding him in death were two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Schwartz and Frank Ringel of Sheboygan, Mrs. Amella Falk of Chicago and Nic Rangel, Jr., of Elkhart Lake. Survivors are a son of Sheboygan, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Ringel was employed as a railroad foreman for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railway for 38 years at Kiel and Elkhart Lake, and flagman for six years at Kiel prior to his retirement. Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, with the Rev. E.C. Jaberg of Sheboygan officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. The deceased was born in 1809 in Hochleben, Bohemia, and came to America in 1878. The burial took place yesterday morning at the Catholic Church.

CHARLES RINGMEIER cemetery #89B From Der Nord Westen, 10 Jan. 1907: Charles Ringmeyer was the victim of a terrible accident in Town Two Rivers on Saturday. He was visiting his brother-in-law Wilhelm Benisch(sic) in Tisch Mills. On the farm Saturday they were busy cutting firewood and Ringmeyer was helping. In the course of the work he bent over the rapidly whirling saw to fix something on the machine, and his sleeve was caught by the roller and he was pulled into the blade, severing both legs. Help was immediately summoned by telephone, but by the time the doctor arrived Ringmeyer, who became unconscious, had bled to death. (Article deplores failure to provide first-aid with tourniquets.) ************* From Der Nord Westen, 10 Jan. 1907: (From the correspondent in Mishicott, 08 Jan.) On Saturday there was an accident on the farm of Wm. Benesh(sic) in which Ed. Rigmeyer(sic), a brother-in-law of Mr. Benesh, came too close to a circular saw and lost both legs from which he died… He was taken to his home on Range Line and from there taken for burial in the Two Rivers cemetery. He leaves a widow and two small children as well as his parents and several sisters. ************** From Der Nord Westen, 17 Jan. 1907: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 14 Jan.) The funeral of unfortunate Charles Ringmeier, whose tragic end was recently reported in Nord-Westen, was the largest ever held here. 138 vehicles followed the casket as it made its way from the Catholic Church to the cemetery.


MARIE RIPPLINGER Cemetery #43 There is no stone for Marie, the following entry is contributed by a family researcher. See contributors page. From the Manitowoc Daily Herald, Manitowoc WI, July 12, 1915: Mrs. Riplinger, one of city's oldest pioneers passes away at advanced age of 98 years. Has resided in this city continuously ever since 1854 - funeral tomorrow conducted by her grandson. One of the very oldest residents of the city was taken away by death Sunday in the person of Mrs. Marie Riplinger (nee Ley) widow of Michael Riplinger, who died at the family home, 1117 S. Ninth Street. The deceased was born in Wellingen, Kries Merzig, Trier, Germany, on August 20, 1817, being a few weeks of her 98th anniversary. She came to America in 1845 locating at Buffalo and there married her late husband in 1848. Six years later the family came here to reside and have continued to reside here ever since, being pioneers in every sense. Decedent has enjoyed fairly good health up to a few weeks ago when she was confined to her bed with infirmities that forcasted the end. She celebrated her golden wedding in 1898. Two daughters survive her - Mesdames August Nusang and August Dusold. There are six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Arthur Wyseman, one of the grandchildren, has made his home with her since his childhood. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 o'clock from St. Boniface Church with interment at Calvary. The services will be conducted by her grand- son, Rev. August Dusold. Mrs. Riplinger was of an unassuming disposition but was loved for her many virtues. She made friends easily and retained them and her memory will be cherished. This additional info. on Marie is from the Manitowoc Pilot: The pall bearers were Arthur J. Wyseman, Michael Auermiller, Fred Dusold, Albert Dusold, Jos. Dusold and Joseph Degenhardt, all relatives of the deceased.


MICHAEL RIPPLINGER Cemetery #43 From the Manitowoc Pilot: Died May 18, 1902, Michael Ripplinger, one of the few pioneer settlers of Manitowoc county died Saturday at his home 1117 South Ninth Street. He was a native of Germany and was born September 29, 1817. At Buffalo, N.Y., he was married in 1848 and seven years later came to this city, where he has made his home since. He was a father of six children, four of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mary Nusang, Mrs. Mathilda Dusold, Mrs. Elizabeth Wyseman and H. J. Ripplinger. The funeral was held from St. Boniface church Wednesday at 9 o'clock. Arthur Wyseman, a student of the Harvard University Law school, is a grandson of Michael Ripplinger, and the old gentleman took great pride in the young man's progress in life. *********** From Der Nord Westen, 22 May 1902: Another one of our old settlers has died after a long bout of bronchitis, the attack of which the age-weakened body was unable to throw off. Michael Riplinger has died in his residence 1117 S. 9th St. Mr. Riplinger was born 29 Sep. 1817 in Bindingen, Germany, came to America in the 40's, married Miss Mary Ley in Buffalo on 29 Apr. 1848 and shortly thereafter came to Wisconsin. He lived in Milwaukee for 7 yrs., then came to Manitowoc in 1855 where he has lived ever since. He worked as a shoemaker here for many years, later opening a retail store which he operated a long time before retiring. In 1898 he and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. In addition to his sorrowing widow he is survived by 4 children - H.J. Riplinger, Mrs. Mary Rusang, Mrs. Mathilde Dusold, and Mrs. Elisabeth Wysemann. 2 other children preceded him in death. His funeral was conducted yesterday morning from the Catholic Church to the Calvary Cemetery.


HERMAN RISCH cemetery #44 RISCH DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER Former Resident Here At Milwaukee at Time of His Death Herman Risch, 63, until ? months ago a resident of Manitowoc, died unexpectedly in Milwaukee at 7 am today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Schwanke. While Mr. Risch had been in ill health for some time, his death was not expected. Six months ago he sold his home in this city and went to Rockwood to reside with his son Arthur, proprietor at a general merchandise store. Three weeks ago Mr. Risch went to Milwaukee to visit at the home of his daughter, where his death occurred. He leaves his son, Arthur of Rockwood and two daughters, Mrs. Schwanke of Milwaukee and Mrs. Emma Bertelt? Of Madison. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Risch left Rockwood this morning for Milwaukee to make arrangements for the funeral. The body will be brought to Manitowoc but whether the funeral services will be held in this city or at Rockwood was undetermined this afternoon. JOHANNA RISCH cemetery #44 STRICKEN AS SHE DRIVES ON THE STREET Mrs. H. Risch Suffers Stroke of Paralysis Today Stricken by paralysis while driving on Clark street early this morning, Mrs. Herman Rusch, a well known North side resident, is reported in a critical condition at her home on N. Fourteenth street. Mrs. Risch was waiting for a train on which her son, Arthur, a salesman for the Plumb & Nelson Co., was expected and was driving at Clark and Thirteenth streets when John Maurer, a railway man, noticed that she appeared to be helpless and stopped the horse. Officer Dueno accompanied Mrs. Risch to her home and a physician was called. Her condition is said to be serious. Mrs. Risch was born in the town of Gibson Jan. 18, 1817 [sic] and was 47 years old at the time of her death. Many friends will regret the death of Mrs. Risch who was known for her charity and helpfulness and to help friends and those in distress. She was very patient during her long illness, although she knew that death was near. She is survived by her husband, one son and two daughters, Mrs. Walter Schwake of Milwaukee and Edna and Arthur of this city. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Leopold Kind, and one brother, Henry Loeb, both of Larrabee. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the late home. DITLEF G. RISTAD, REV. cemetery #44 Funeral services for Dr. D.G. Ristad, pastor of the First Lutheran church here since 1922, who died Tuesday, where held this afternoon from the church. Presiding over the final rites of the well known clergyman, educator and author, was Dr. L.W. Boe, president of St. Olaf college, Northfield, Minn. He headed a large delegation of Lutheran clergy and laymen from the middle west who came here for the services. Dr. Ristad was a former president of the eastern district of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. The body was brought to the church, Eighth and State streets, from the parsonage, where private services were held for members of the family at 11 a.m. Honorary pallbearers this afternoon were Walter Dorsch, H.L. Vits, William Krumm, Emil Sohrweide, Peter Anderson, George Maxfeldt, Emil Krug and Thorval Torrison. Active pallbearers were Oscar Gunderson, Albert Tetzlaff, Vernon Aleckson, T.C. AUGUSTA RISTOW cemetery #44 WIDOW OF FRED RISTOW, SR. DIES AT SHEBOYGAN Former Resident of Manitowoc Dead at Age of 85 Mrs. Augusta Ristow, nee Knack widow of Fred Ristow, Sr., died at home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Koehler at Sheboygan this morning her demise being due to infirmities incident to old age. The body will be brought to this city and the funeral will take place from the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kunish, 1207 South Eleventh street, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be at Evergreen. Lived at Manitowoc Mrs. Ristow, who was past eighty-five years of age, was born in Germany and was married there, the family coming to America shortly afterward, coming to Manitowoc to make their home. Mr. Ristow preceded her in death seven years ago and until three years ago Mrs. Ristow made her home here with Mr. and Mrs. Kunish. Besides the two daughters, Mrs. Koehler of Sheboygan and Mrs. Kunish of this city, Mrs. Ristow is survived by two sons, Fred Jr., who served as backstop on the Sheboygan and Manitowoc Lake Shore League teams, Carl of Milwaukee and another daughter, Mrs. Herman Henning of Sheboygan. MARIA A. RISTOW Maria A. Ristow, 38, of Kiel, died unexpectedly, Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 1996 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center, Neenah, from complications of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Oct. 11, 1996. She is the former Maria Agreda born Oct. 14, 1958 in Caracas, Venezuela, daughter of Jose Agreda and Ana Casado. She graduated from high school in Caracas, Venezuela. Maria was a graduate of St. Thomas University, St. Paul, Minn., where she received her B.S. degree in biology and her master's degree in education. She recently received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Lakeland College. On June 6, 1986, she married Dale Ristow at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz; a member of the Board of Education at St. Gregory Catholic School, a member of the Home and School Association and coached the Odyssey of the Minds Program at St. Gregory's. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by her son, Michael and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m, Thursday, Oct. 24, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, with the Rev. Cletus LaMere officiating, preceded by brief family rites at 10:15 a.m. at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. ANNA RITCHIE cemetery #89B From Der Nord Westen, 14 Feb. 1907: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 11 Feb.) Mrs. Fritz Richie of Two Rivers died last week in Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. She had been ill for some time and had to be taken to the hospital for an operation. Regrettably, the operation did not have the desired effect. She is survived by her husband and 3 children. Her large funeral was held Saturday from St. Lukes Church.

HEDWIG RIX cemetery #82 Mrs. Hedwig Rix, 85, formerly of 511 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died Sunday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital. She had resided at the Anna M. Reiss Home since April, 1962. Born in Kiel on Oct. 2, 1879, she was a daughter of the late August and Eliese Lindner, received her education in Kiel schools, and was married to Peter Rix of Chicago. They lived there until 1950 when they moved to Kiel. Her husband died in July, 1952. Mrs. Rix was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kiel, the Kiel Fraun Verein, and the Rebekah Lodge of Kiel. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Thekla Mulcahy, and a brother, Walter Lindner, both of Kiel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. Allen L. Bowe, pastor of the Kiel First Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. (no newspaper named, 1964)


PETER J. RIX cemetery #82 Peter J. Rix, 76, retired federal postal clerk, of 511 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan, after an illness of two months. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, the Rev. Ernest J. Nelson officiating, with burial in the Kiel Cemetery. Born July 6, 1876, in France, the deceased came to the United States with his parents at the age of 12. When he was 16 the family moved to Chicago, where for 47 years Mr. Rix served as a postal clerk. He married Hedwig Lindner of Kiel in 1920 and 18 months ago the couple came to Kiel to reside. Survivors in addition to the wife are a son, Armand of Chicago and a sister, Mrs. Mary Greve of New York. - 1952
