ANITA PICHLER cemetery #84 The funeral of Mrs. Ludwig Pichler of Sheboygan took place in Kiel on Monday afternoon, with services in the Reformed church. Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the Rockville cemetery. Mrs. Pichler, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stecker of Sheboygan, died on Saturday morning at St. Nicholas hospital, after suffering for a period of nearly three years. She had been in the hospital for about four weeks, but her illness dated back to an attack of influenza nearly three years ago. She was born in the town of Schleswig, December 14, 1891, and was married about 10 years ago to Mr. Pichler, the couple taking up their residence in Kiel. A son was born to them five years ago. They came to Sheboygan about four years ago and resided here ever since. Mr. Pichler is a talented violinist and was a member of the Kiel Arion orchestra when the couple lived here. He is violinist at the Rex Theater in Sheboygan at present. Survivors are her husband and son, Walter, mother and father, three brothers, Edwin of Kiel, Walter of Fond du Lac and Milton of Sheboygan. A sister passed away at the age of 10 years. - 1922

ADOLPH PIENING cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 03 Jan. 1901: Another prominent German citizen of our city has died. Adolph Piening passed away Sun. evening after an illness of several months with consumption. Yesterday afternoon he was buried in the city cemetery alongside his wife who had predeceased him 30 yrs. ago. Adolph Piening was born in Elmshorn, Holstein, on 23 Dec. 1834. He learned the mercantile business in Hamburg and came to America in 1855. His steps led him to Two Rivers where he took a position in Kühne's Bank and later with the Two Rivers Manufacturing Co. In 1865 he came to Manitowoc as bookkeeper for Torrison's Store, then in 1869 took over the job of Clerk of the District Court. In 1874 he established what is now Fechter's Book Store, then was named Postmaster of Manitowoc in 1885, and then in 1892 was named by Judge Wilson as Administrator in Bankruptcy of the Shoves Bank, a difficult task which endured until last summer. He married Laura Knapp in 1862 with whom he lived happily until her death in 1870 leaving him with 3 daughters. His sister, Miss Auguste Piening came from Germany to help her brother and serve as a second mother for his children. In addition to his 3 daughters, several grandchildren and the above mentioned sister, he is survived by another sister and 2 brothers in Germany.

HERBERT L. PIEPER cemetery #87 Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners, Saturday for Herbert L. Pieper, 74, of Route 2, Kiel, a retired Town of New Holstein farmer who died at home Thursday morning. The Rev. Adalbert Schultz officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pieper was born October 2, 1885, near Woodland, Dodge County, son of the late Carl and Wilhelminia Matthias Pieper, and was educated in the district school. He also attended Fond du Lac High School. He married Hilda Krueger of Hustisford April 5, 1911. and the couple resided at Cascade for eight years where he operated a cheese factory. He later operated farms in the Plymouth and Kiel areas until his retirement two years ago. The couple observed its golden wedding anniversary in 1961. Survivors include his wife, two sons, two daughters, three brothers, Henry of Campbellsport, Adolph of Brownsville and Hilbert of Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. - 1963

ALONZO PIERCE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 07 Jan. 1904: Death in Town Manitowoc Rapids on Sun. morning of Alonzo C. Pierce, one of the first white residents of our county, coming here with his parents in 1837, a time when there were only a dozen white families here and the red men roamed the wilderness freely. He was born 03 June 1830 in the state of New York. In his youth he floated timber for a living and even made several trips to New Orleans. In 1854 he made a trip around Cape Horn to San Francisco to seek his fortune in the newly discovered gold fields, but 3 yrs. later came back to the old farmstead in Manitowoc. During the war he served with the 27th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. At the war's end he reestablished his residency in Manitowoc Rapids. His death on Sun. was a result of a serious case of pneumonia. In addition to his widow, he is survived by several sons and a daughter, as well as two brothers (including Chief of Police P. Jerome Pierce of Manitowoc), and 2 sisters. The funeral was held Tues. in the local cemetery under the direction of the H.M. D.B. PIERCE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 07 Mar. 1889: Death of Bailey Pierce of Manitowoc Rapids last week as a result of an accident in which he was severely injured by his span of horses. He died last Thurs. morning (a complete description of the accident can be found in the issue of 28 Feb.) The Grand Army of the Republic carried him to his final rest.

JEROME PIERCE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 16 Nov. 1905: Former police chief P. Jerome Pierce died today after a long illness, and in his memory the flags on the city buildings will fly at half-mast. ******* From Der Nord Westen, 23 Nov. 1905: P.J. Pierce, whose death we reported last week, was one of the first white residents of our county, coming here as a boy in 1838 and lived here ever since. He was born in the state of N.Y. in 1831. His father, Pliny Pierce, settled in Town Manitowoc Rapids in 1837 when it was a total wilderness and sent for his family to join him the following year. As Mr. Pierce grew up he undertook several retail businesses in this vicinity. He also interested himself in politics and was the 3rd postmaster of Manitowoc Rapids, which at that time was the county seat, and later filled the office of sheriff. In 1897 he was named police chief for Manitowoc and occupied that office until Sep. of this year when illness forced his retirement. Mr. Pierce leaves a widow and a son, Stanley. PLINY PIERCE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 19 Apr. 1894: Death in Manitowoc Rapids on Mon. of Mr. Pliny Pierce, one of the first white settlers of Manitowoc Co., at the age of 86. He came from his home in New York State in 1836 and has lived here ever since. In the early pioneer days he served in several public capacities, including County Clerk and Postmaster. ANTON PILGER cemetery #44 NEPHEWS ARE PALLBEARERS - ANTON PILGER, 78, IS BURIED TODAY AT EVERGREEN - Funeral service for Anton Pilger, 78, who died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julius Pohl, 602 North Water St., were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. from the home. The Bohemian Lodge, Z.C.B.J. conducted the service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbears at the service were 6 nephews, James, Steven, Joseph, Reinhardt, Edward and Roy Pilger. The deceased was born April 27, 1856 in the Town of Kossuth. he lived in Manitowoc all of his life. He was a shoemaker by trade and spent a number of years farming. In 1880 Mr. Pilger was married to Katherine Dvorak, who preceded him in death in 1890. In 1891, he was married to Eleanor Husse. Survivors include 8 daughters, Mrs. Arthur Mueller, Mrs. Julius Pohl, Mrs. George Lambries Sr., Mrs. L.E. Warren, Mrs. J.A. Hudon, Mrs. F. J. CORKY (CLARENCE) PILGER cemetery #89D OBITUARY: Herald Times Reporter; Tuesday 24 Oct 2000; pg A2 Corky (Clarence) Pilger Corky (Clarence) Pilger, age 63 of Two Rivers, died peacefully with his family at his side, Sunday evening Oct 22, 2000 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers after a 7 month bout with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 26, 2000 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. William G. O'Brien. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Corky was born August 24, 1937, in Two Rivers, son of the late Clarence C. and Elinor L. Lawerentz Pilger. He attended public schools in Two Rivers and was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. On Feb. 2, 1956, Corky entered the United States Air Force and served until being honorably discharged Feb 1, 1960. On May 13, 1961, he was married to Judy Lodl at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The Rev. John Mueller presided. He was employed at Paragon Electric Company for 44 years retiring in 1999 as a Master Scheduler. While at Paragon, he received several awards including the Performance Award and the Outstanding Employee Award. He loved the years spent at Paragon and enjoyed working with people. He was also a member of Paragon P.R.A. Corky was active with the Eagles Club of Two Rivers having served as past president and past secretary/treasurer and was currently serving as trustee. He was a member of the men of Holy Redeemer and enjoyed playing dartball, golfing, reading and refinishing wood. Corky cherished time spent with his one and only grandson. Survivors include his wife, one son, one daughter and son-in-law, one grandson, one sister and brother-in-law, a special niece and great nephew, other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Helen Lodl; two brothers, Virgil and Robert Pilger; one sister Janet Pilger and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Jim Hodek. EMMA PILGER cemetery #36 Mrs. Emma Pilger, 78, of 1901 Lincoln St., Two Rivers, died early Tuesday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Klein and Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, the Rev. Ralph Bachman officiating. Burial will be in the Kossuth National Cemetery. Mrs. Pilger, nee Emma Yana, was born April 16, 1891, in the Town of Kossuth, a daughter of the late Wenzel and Ann Panoch Yana. She was married Sept. 26, 1910, at Manitowoc, to Stephen Pilger, after which the couple farmed in the town of Kossuth until 14 years ago, coming to Two Rivers. Mr. Pilger died at Two Rivers, Aug. 22, 1967. Mrs. Pilger was a 50-year member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge at Two Rivers. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elwood (Gladys) Miller, of Manitowoc; three sons, Clarence of Two Rivers, Norman of Wayside, and Victor Pilger of Costa Mesa, CA; a brother, Adolph Yana, of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mrs. Pilger, nee Helen Isselmann, was born May 20, 1903, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Lenz Isselmann. She attended St. Boniface parochial school and was graduated in 1921 from Lincoln High School Manitowoc. She was married to Roy S. Pilger July 23, 1928, and he died June 8, 1965. She was a member of Mary Guild, Holy Family Hospital Guild, Catholic Women's Club, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and St. Anne-CMA Society. MICHAEL J. PILGER cemetery #44 PILGER - Michael J. Pilger, 74, of Reedsville, died Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness at Veterans Administration Hospital, Wood, WI. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Pilger was born at Manitowoc, July 26, 1888, son of the late Anton and Eleanor Hussa Pilger. He married Dorina Hansen at Port Washington, Sept. 11, 1917. A veteran of WWI, he was a corporal with Company H and also served with the Army in 1914 along the Mexico-US border. He was a member of the WWI Barracks, the American Legion Post of Reedsville and American Brotherhood of Railroad Employees. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Gagner of Reedsville, a brother, Charles of Manitowoc; seven sisters, Mrs. L.E. Warren of Los Angeles, Mrs. F. J. Benesh of Mesa, AZ, and Mrs. J.A. ROY S. PILGER cemetery #44 Roy S. Pilger, 62, of 2749 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he was confined two weeks after a coronary attack. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. D. L. Krembs will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Pilger was born Aug. 23, 1902, at Manitowoc, son of the late Steven and Frances Melicher Pilger. He always resided at Manitowoc. He attended Manitowoc public schools and was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. He married Helen Isselman July 23, 1928, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Mr. Pilger had been employed 43 years by Mirro Aluminum Co., and since October 1960, had been superintendent of the Mirro-Craft boat line. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife, a brother, Rhinehart, and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Boelter, of Manitowoc and several nieces and nephews. A brother preceded him in death. VIOLA PILGER cemetery #44 PILGER - Mrs. Charles W. Pilger, 61, of 4001 Springhill Dr., Manitowoc, died Friday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Very Rev. Clement P. Kern will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Pilger, the former Viola R. Schultz, was born September 24, 1906, at Manitowoc, the daughter of the late Julius and Mary Wellner Schultz. She was married to Mr. Pilger July 25, 1942, at Manitowoc. She worked for Mirro Aluminum 32 years and with her husband operated the Manhattan Club at Manitowoc 3 years. ANNA PINGEL cemetery #84 Anna Pingel Passes Away Miss Anna M. Pingel, aged 69, passed away Tuesday night, at 6:30 o'clock at the Holy Family hospital in Manitowoc, where she submitted to an operation on March 1st. The deceased was born April 8, 1875 in the town of Schleswig, near Kiel, the daughter of the late John and Maria Zachow Pingel. She attended school there and on May 26, 1890 was confirmed by the Rev. M. Denninger in the Evangelical Lutheran Zion church at Louis Corners. She spent the greater part of her life in the vicinity of Kiel, doing housework as long as her health permitted. While living in this city she was a faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity church. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Roehrdanz of Malone, and Mrs. Martha Jahnke of Cedarburg; seven nieces and one nephew. One sister, Mrs. Augusta Meyer of Neillsville preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Trinity Lutheran church in this city, with the Rev. Harold O. Grunwald officiating. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home from Friday noon until time of service.

HENRY PINGEL cemetery #82 Henry Pingel passed away at 4 a.m. Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur W. Lawrence, Fond du Lac, R.3. Mr. Pingel, who had reached the age of 71 years died as the result of a stroke. The deceased, born in Germany, April 14, 1864, came to Plymouth in the year 1884, later moving to Kiel where he made his home for 37 years. For the past four years he has made his home with his daughter. Mr. Pingel was married in 1892 to Miss Eva Schmidt of the town of Rhine, who preceded him in death. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Lawrence and Mrs. Launa Klotz, the latter of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Oliver and Mae Lawrence; and a sister, Mrs. Jacob Rieck of Plymouth. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Gospel Tabernacle, with the Rev. A. C. Liebelt officiating. The body will then be brought to Kiel where it will lie in state at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home here from 1 to 2 p.m., at which time services will be held. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery beside his wife. - December 1935

HENRY C. PINGEL cemetery #84 Henry C. Pingel, 83 Rev. E. L. Worthman officiated at the funeral services for Henry C. Pingel on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Pallbearers were Lester Hennings, Daniel Nauth, Otto Kent, Henry Dexheimer, Marvin Stoltenburg and LeRoy Hartmann. Mr. Pingel had been ill for a long time. He was born in the town of Schleswig on March 24, 1863, the son of John and Mary Kasten-Pingel. Following his marriage to Johanna Hartmann of the town of Rhine on June 13, 1886, the couple located on the present farm, six miles southeast of this city. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Mathilda) Nauth of the town of Rhine, and Mrs. Ernst (Meta) Dexheimer, on the homestead; one son, Philip of Verona; three brothers, William and Louis in Nebraska, and Herman in South Dakota, and three sisters, Mrs. Mulda Dyer and Mrs. Minnie Arpke in Nebraska, and Mrs. Mathilda Reimer of Milwaukee. Five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. His wife preceded him in death on April 20, 1934.

The Burial Register has Joachim Pingle, male, age 78, born in Germany, cause of death: cerebral hemorrhage. The lot diagram book has Joachim Pingel. There is no record at all of a Joseph Pingel. I believe the newspaper has the wrong 1st name.

The deceased nee Johanna Hartman, was born January 24, 1860 in the town of Rhine. She was married to Henry Pingel June 13, 1886, and has resided on a farm in the town of Rhine for 41 years. Five children were born of this union, two daughters having preceded her in death. Survivors are: Her husband, a son Philip of Verona, two daughters, Mrs. Peter Nauth of town Rhine and Mrs. Ernst Dexheimer at home; five grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Hartmann of California, Joseph and Robert of the town of Rhine; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Diefenthaler of town Rhine. Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 o’clock Monday afternoon, with burial in the Rockville cemetery, The Rev. E. L.Worthman had charge. Piper, age 99, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, entered into eternal rest, Saturday, April 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Gerald Foley at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Friends and relatives may call at Holy Innocents from noon until the time of Mass on Thursday. Mary was born July 16, 1905 in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, Wis., to the late Charles and Barbara Tisler Reindl. She was educated in the Kellnersville schools and Manitowoc Public School system. She, and her husband Charles, owned and operated the Town House Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in Manitowoc. Mary also was employed with Park Lawn Home as a recreational therapist until her retirement in 1970. She married Charles E. Piper, April 23, 1930, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Piper preceded her in death July 26, 1975. She was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Survivors include two children: 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, her daughter, Leatrice Check, four brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. The deceased, who was born 17 June 1838 in Bidingen, Kreis Merzig, Trier, formerly lived in Newton but for the last many years had a store here on the corner of Main and Marshall Streets. He is survived by his widow and 3 grown children. The burial took place yesterday. The funeral service was conducted at the local Catholic Church, following which the casket was taken to Newton and buried in St. Peters Cemetery next to the body of his first wife.

JOHN J. PITZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 03 Jan. 1907: Death on New Year’s Day of Joseph Pitz, a well-known resident of our city, following a six-week illness. The deceased, who was born 19 Nov. 1845 in Nieder- Ingelheim on the Rhine, learned the cabinet-maker’s trade after leaving school. He came to America in 1867 directly to Manitowoc County. In 1874 he married Miss Lovely of Branch, a marriage blessed with 4 children. His wife preceded him in death about 12 years ago. Ten years ago he remarried with Elisabeth Fetzer, a marriage which produced no children. Mr. Pitz was one of a family of 9 sons and 5 daughters; 5 brothers and 4 sisters survive him, of whom 2 brothers and 3 sisters still live in Germany. His widow, and 4 children of the first marriage, mourn his death. The funeral will be held this afternoon.

GOTTLIEB PITZOLDT cemetery #89A Gottfried Petzoldt, a pioneer settler of the town of Two Rivers, died last Saturday at the home of Mr. John Drier from the results of a surgical operation, he being too feeble and old to recover from the schock (sic) thereof. The operation was made in the hopes of prolonging his life. He was born in Battendorf, Saxony, October 16, 1823 and was married while still in Saxony to Caroline Brandt. He came to this country and settled upon a farm a few miles north of here about 50 years ago. He was a Union soldier during the war of the Rebellion and a member of Jos. Rankin Post G.A.R.
