PERONTO (d. 1957) cemetery #44 Mary Peronto Dies in Early Morning Crash Manitowoc County's traffic death toll rose to 19 Monday with the death of an 18 year old girl in an accident on the Lake Shore Road. Dead on arrival at Holy Family Hospital was Mary Helen Peronto, 18, of 1212 Fairmont St., Manitowoc. She suffered facial injuries and a skull fracture when thrown against windshield of a car in which she was riding with Richard F. Hartman, 24, of 1731 28th St., Two Rivers. Hartman was hospitalized with fractures of upper and lower jaw. The accident occurred about 12:15 a.m. at a point three quarters of a mile south of the Manitowoc city limits on the Lahe Shore Road. County traffic police said the northbound 1953 model Oldsmobile sedan driven by Hartman ran off the east side of the road and plowed about 150 feet along the ditch before striking a culvert leading into farm property. The car had extensive damage to the front end. Hartman was apparently returning to the city after visiting at Sunmet's Bar. Coroner Dr. Theodore Teitgen indicated that inquest would be held. The girl's death was the third traffic fatality to be reported in the county within 10 days and left the 1957 total only one short of the final total for 1956 with more than a month remaining. ...
