WILLIAM LEARD cemetery #43 William Leard died at Maple Crest sanitarium at Whitelaw yesterday aged 63 years after an illness of some months. He was a railroad man and is well known in railroad circles here. The remains were brought to this city and the funeral will be held tomorrow morning from Urbanek & Wattawa undertaking parlors, service will be at St. Boniface church and interment will be at Calvary cemetery. JAMES LECANN James La Cann(sic), the nine months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph La Cann, Tenth and Park streets, died this morning and burial took place this afternoon at 4 o’clock. ARLENE J. LECHLER cemetery #20 Arlene J. Lechler, 72, of 8122 Hwy 67, Kiel (Town of Eaton) died Friday morning, December 5, 2008 at her home. She is the former Arlene Kluball, born July 12, 1936 in the Town of Summit, Langlade Co., daughter of the late Stephen and Hertha (Gerdes) Kluball. Arlene attended Peace Lutheran Parochial School and was a 1954 graduate of Antigo High School. On September 20, 1958 she married Roy C. Lechler at St. John’s UCC in New Holstein and he preceded her in death on February 25, 2005. Arlene and Roy farmed in the Town of Eaton for many years, during that time she was also a housewife and mother. Arlene also worked for 15 years at Leverenz Shoe Company. Arlene was a very active member of St. John’s UCC in New Holstein where she was a member of the Ladies Fellowship, Bible Study and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was also very active with the Eaton Cemetery Ladies Aid where she helped maintain the cemetery grounds. Arlene was a generous person always willing to help others, in her free time she enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading. Survivors include her two daughters, two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one step great grandchild and two sisters. EDNA LECHLER cemetery #20 Mrs. Edna Lechler, 77, widow of the late Hubert, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home on R. 1, Kiel, Monday. The daughter of Herman and Louisa Kreimann Gau was born on April 20, 1893 in the Town of Eaton. She attended area schools and on Dec. 3, 1918 was married to Mr. Lechler at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig. The couple lived in New Holstein for a year before they moved to the Eaton farm. Mr. Lechler died in December 1958. Surviving is a brother, Hugo Gau, R. 1, Kiel. She was also preceded in death by a sister and step-sister. Graveside committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Eaton Cemetery. At Mrs. Lechler’s request, there will be no funeral rites or visitation.


EMMA LECHLER cemetery #20 Mrs. Lechler is Stricken Today; Rites on Sunday Kiel - Mrs. Ferdinand Lechler, 75, a resident of the town of Eaton, died at 7:45 a.m. today at her farm home, five miles north of Kiel, following a lingering illness. Nee Emma Strassmann, the daughter of Michael and Antonia Zorn Strassmann, the deceased was born May 10, 1871, in the town of Schleswig. She was married to Ferdinand Lecher on March 6, 1891, and the couple moved to the present farm home in Eaton township where they have since resided. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in May, 1941. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Rudolph (Lucy) Ibe, Town Eaton, and Mrs. Clarence (Violet) Anhalt, Kiel; five sons, Hubert, John, James and Michael, all of the town of Eaton, and Helmuth, Kiel; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, William and Benjamin, Town Eaton, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Arbter, Sturgeon Bay, and Mrs. Jacob Spettel, of the town of Eaton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. Charles H. FERDINAND LECHLER cemetery #20 Ferdinand Lechler, 81, a retired town of Eaton farmer, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at the farm home of a son, John, six miles north of Kiel. A life-long resident of the town of Eaton, he was born December 13, 1868, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Lechler, and was married to Emma Strassman of Schleswig on March 6, 1891. Following their marriage the couple settled on a farm in the town of Eaton, Mr. Lechler made his home with his son, John, since the death of his wife in March, 1947. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Ibe of Eaton and Mrs. Clarence Anhalt of Kiel; four sons, Hubert, John and Mike of Eaton and Helmuth of Kiel; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, James, also preceded him in death in 1947. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. W. C. HUBERT LECHLER cemetery #20 Hubert Lechler, 65, Town of Eaton (Manitowoc County) farmer, died early today at this home on Highway 32 about five miles north of Kiel. He had been ailing four years. A native of Eaton, he was born May 12, 1893, a son of the late Ferdinand and Emma Strassmann Lechler. He grew up and attended district school in Eaton, marrying the former Edna Gau, Dec. 3, 1918. The couple lived in New Holstein for a year, then took over operating of their present farm. Surviving are his wife; three brothers, John and Michael of Eaton and Helmuth of Kiel; and two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Anhalt of Kiel and Mrs. Rudolph Ibe of Eaton. He was preceded in death by a brother, James. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel, of which he was a member. The Rev. Vernon E. JOHN F. LECHLER cemetery #21 John F. Lechler, 81, of 108 Park Ave., Kiel, a retired Town of Eaton farmer, died Monday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was born June 13, 1897, in the Town of Eaton, a son of Ferdinand and Emma Strassman Lechler. He attended the district school. On May 25, 1926, he married the former Bridget Kautzer at St. Nazianz. The couple resided in St. Nazianz for seven years and moved to the Lechler home farm in the Town of Eaton which they operated for 40 years. Mr. Lechler also did blacksmith work. MARIE C. LECHLER cemetery #20 Mrs. Marie C Lechler, age 72, of 822 7th St. Kiel, died this morning at Calumet Homestead in New Holstein after a lengthy illness. The former Marie Theobald, born Jan. 22, 1915 in the Town of New Holstein, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Schoenborn Theobald. She attended Kiel Schools. On Sept. 4, 1937 she married Helmuth Lechler in Kiel. She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Kiel and a member of the Church Women’s Guild and the Church’s SenIor Social. MIKE H. LECHLER cemetery #20 Mike H, Lechler, 66, of Route 1, Kiel, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, where he had been a patient for 10 days. Born in the Town of Eaton on December 15, 1907, he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Emma Strassmann Lecher. He attended Elder Grove School. On June 27, 1931 he married the former Florence Rabe at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. The couple located on the Lechler home farm in the Town of Eaton. For 11 years, prior to his retirement two years ago, Mr. Lechler was employed at the A.A. Laun Furniture Company, Kiel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Anhalt, Kiel, and two brothers, John, rural Kiel, and Helmuth, Kiel. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Reverend C.L. Reiter, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Eaton Cemetery, Town of Eaton. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Lechler’S name for Trinity Lutheran Church.


ROY C. LECHLER cemetery #20 Roy C Lechler, 72, of 8122 Hwy 67, Kiel (Town of Eaton) died Friday Feb. 28, 2005 at his home. He was born February 16, 1933 in the Town of Eaton, son of the late James and Selma (Hansen) Lechler. Roy attended Elder Grove School and Kiel High School. From 1956 until 1958 He served with the US Army in Germany. On September 20, 1958 he married the former Arlene Kluball at St. John’s UCC in New Holstein. For 60 years, Roy farmed in the Town of Eaton, during which time he also worked at Lake to Lake for eight years, Kiel Sand and Gravel for 12 years and Riesterer and Schnell for 18 years. After his retirement, Roy worked at Stell’s Piggly Wiggly in New Holstein. He was a very active member of St. John’s UCC in New Holstein. He also enjoyed working with wood. He was operator and owner of the Manitowoc Fish Market the past 25 years, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 706 and Knights of Columbus Council 710 of Manitowoc. He was a 20-year member of the Holy Name Choir of Holy Innocents Catholic Church and also a member of the American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88. GEORGE J. LECLAIR cemetery #89D George J. LeClair, 79, of Rt. 3, Two Rivers, a member of one of the area's earliest families in the commercial fishing industry who had authored several widely circulated articles on how commercial fishing could be improved, died unexpectedly at the home early Saturday morning. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Klein and Stangel, Inc. Funeral Home, Two Rivers, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Rev. Paul Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. LeClair was born Dec. 14, 1891, at Two Rivers, a son of the late former City Councilman David and Genevieve Gagnon LeClair. He married the former Mary Taddy at Two Rivers April 28, 1914. Their golden wedding anniversary was observed seven years ago. In retirement at his rural Two Rivers home since 1951, Mr. LeClair has been engaged in pound net fishing for nearly 40 years, and associated earlier with his father, who became an authority on commercial fishing on the Great Lakes. He served several years on the school board of the Town of Two Rivers. He was also a member of Mother of Hope Council No. 1957, Knights of Columbus, Holy Redeemer parish, its Holy Name Society, and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Doris at home, Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Johnson of Green Bay, and Mrs. Ben (Ione) Graycarek of Appleton; eight sons, Germain of Tuscon, Ariz., Raphael, Sylvester, Bernard, Allen and Leon of Two Rivers, Roger at home, and Jude of Two Creeks; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Franken of Racine; a brother, Francis of Rhinelander; 36 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. LOUIS/LEWIS LE CLAIR cemetery #89B CAPT. LOUIS LE CLAIR DIES SUDDENLY Last Friday Capt. Louis Le Clair died quite suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on the Eastside. He had been about town as usual up to a few hours before his death and the news of his sudden death was a great surprise to all who knew him. His wife died about three weeks ago and it is said that her death completely un-nerved and discouraged him. He leaves six children, three of whom are unable to care for themselves. They will, however, be well cared for by relatives. Louis Le Clair was about 38 years old and was born in the town of Mishicot in 1866. In 1881 he was married to a daughter of Collis Gauthier who born him six children, one of whom, a daughter, is married. He was a skillful and capable steamboat captain. Last year he had command of the steamer Welcome and he had been engaged to again take comand of the Two Rivers Manufacturing Co's. towing tug, Temple Emery, a command he had held several previous seasons. MARTHA LECLAIR cemetery #89A Mrs. Martha LeClair, 89, of Rt. 3, Two Rivers, died Monday at Manitowoc County Hospital. She had made her home with a nephew, Frederick Strutz, Rt. 3, Two Rivers, Since October of 1966. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate and burial will be in Pioneer's Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mrs. LeClair, nee Martha Strutz was born Dec. 8, 1883, in the Town of Two Creeks, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Justine Schwahart. She was married to Fred Weltzien in November of 1914 at Appleton. He preceded her in death in 1944. She was married to Albert LeClair in June of 1953. He preceded her in death in 1966. PETER LECLAIR cemetery #89D D. Peter LeClair, 82, Two Rivers, was surrounded by his family on Sept. 5, 2011, when the Lord welcomed him home. Peter was born in Kidville (Two Creeks) on June 28, 1929, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Smongeski) LeClair. He attended the Twin Elder School in the town of Two Creeks until transferring to Washington High School in Two Rivers where he graduated in 1946 at the age of 16. He was united in marriage to Eunice Thiede on Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Fr. Wagner presided at the ceremony. Peter entered into the life of a commercial fisherman alongside his father and brother at age 12. He was a 3rd generation fisherman. Peter semi-retired in 1980 at the age of 52, but still continued to play a role in the business as senior advisor and net mender. The Susie Q Fish Co. was passed on to his three sons, and the family trade continues today. Peter came out of retirement in the early 90's during the lean years of fishing to venture into the trucking business with his company, LeClair Trucking. Pete enjoyed life to the fullest. In his younger years he took to the road at 100 mph on his Harley Davidson or his race car, the 4U2. He enjoyed bowling, playing dartball, playing the trumpet, and was always smiling when dancing a polka. He had a deep love for his big, white, 1990 Cadillac that still runs today. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Brewers, Badgers, and especially the Packers. It was a real treat to have the family over for the game on Sunday afternoon. In recent years, he most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peter was a man dedicated to God, church, and prayer. He followed God's message by taking a special interest in helping others. He held many "social hours" at the fish shed where he gave many sermons to lead the misguided down the right path. He was a founder and longtime member of Grumann's Athletic Club. He was involved with The Central Great Lakes Fishing Association, and past member of the Two Rivers Kiwanis Club. He served as president of the Wisconsin Commercial Fisherman Association; was a member of the finance committee at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish; and was an active member of Rogers Street Fishing Village and the February Club. THERESA LECLAIR cemetery #89B Mrs. Nelson LeClair, 84, of 2822 Lincoln Ave., Two Rivers, wife of a prominent retired commercial fishermen and former member of the Wisconsin Conservation Commission, died Wednesday morning at the family home. Mrs. LeClair, nee Theresa Colling, was born Feb. 20, 1878, at Seymour, a daughter of the late Leonard and Anna Baltus Colling. She was married April 20, 1898 to Nelson LeClair of Two Rivers at Seymour. The couple made its home at Two Rivers where she had resided since. She was a member of the St. Luke Alter Society and the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters. Besides her husband she leaves five daughters, Mrs. J. J. Defnet, of Albuguerque, N. ELIZABETH LECOQUE cemetery #43 She is the daughter of Peter & Josephine Gates. Her husband was Clarence LeCoque/co. death index v.86 p.410.) During her life she was a dry cleaner at a dry cleaning establishment. She died as a resident at St. Mary's Home for the Aged, probably of cardiac failure. She also suffered from senile dimentia. Pfeffer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She is buried in Calvary Mausoleum of Manitowoc.


DONALD A. LECOQUE cemetery #43 Donald LeCoque, age 83 of De Pere, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at Unity Hospice. Born on July 18, 1925, to the late Ervin and Adeline LeCoque, he grew up and lived most of his life in Manitowoc. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, Don was accepted into the Naval Academy where he served as an Aviation Cadet followed by service in the Merchant Marines. In 1948, Don married Ruth Bonk, and together they had five children. He was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. Don loved to golf, travel and enjoyed family gatherings with his wife, children, grandchildren and great- grand-children. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law: Shirley and Lloyd Aumann, and brother-in-law: Jim Bonk. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Ledvina, 86, former Maribel resident and retired manager of the Maribel Lumber Co., died Sunday evening at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Steinbrecker, of 1035 N. 16th St., Manitowoc. He was a building contractor for 22 years and was the manager of Maribel Lumber Co. for 40 yers, where he retired 20 years ago. He married Theresa Sleger Sept. 4, 1904, at Kellnersville. She preceded him in death April 25, 1962. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Ledvina was a member of Wisconsin County Judges Assn., Wisconsin Juvenile Judges Assn., Wisconsin and Manitowoc County bar associations, member and former officer of Manitowoc Eagles Club Aerie, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Manitowoc Council, and served as district deputy for the KCs while living in Park Falls. He was also a member of the Manitowoc County Historical Society, Holy Innocents Parish and its Holy Name Society, February Club and charter member of the Manitowoc Optimist Club. He received special recognition from the federal government for his volunteer work as special agent during World War II. Mr. Ledvina was influential in organizing the Manitowoc County Retreat League. Survivors include his wife, two sons, a daughter, three sisters, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces and nephews. Ledvina, 69, former clerk of court of Manitowoc County, died Wednesday at Alexian Brothers Home, Oshkosh, where he had resided since 1941. Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the village. The Rev. Frank Svatek will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. A squad of the Drews-Bleser American Legion Post, Manitowoc, will provide military rites at graveside. Mr. Ledvina was born Sept. 16, 1887, at Kellnersville, son of the late Lawrence and Catharine Reif Ledvina. He attended Manitowoc Business College and then served several years as deputy register of deeds under Charles Streich. In 1914 he was elected clerk of court and re-elected in 1916. He resigned in 1917 to enlist with his brother, the late Atty. Lawrence Ledvina, in the United States Navy where he served until the end of World War I. After his war service he was employed in the real estate department of the East Wisconsin Trustee Co. for several years, later engaging in business for himself as an abstractor and real estate broker. In 1928, ill health forced him to retire. Mr. Ledvina lived with his mother at Kellnersville until her death in 1941, and since that time made his home at the Alexian Brothers Home. He was a member of the Manitowoc Council Knights of Columbus, the Drews-Bleser Legion Post and the Manitowoc Elks Club. Surviving him are four sisters, and three brothers. LAWRENCE S. LEDVINA Cemetery #26 L.S. LEDVINA, 74, PIONEER SHOEMAKER, IS DEAD Father of Atty. L.W. and Joseph Ledvina of this city and a resident of Manitowoc county for over sixty years, during which he resided in the town of Franklin, died Sunday morning at his home in Kellnersville after an illness of several months duration. He was 74 years of age. Shoemaker for 60 Years Mr. Ledvina engaged in the trade of shoe making and despite his advancing years, continued at this trade up to a few weeks ago thus rounding out sixty years at his trade, truly a most remark- able record. Mr. Ledvina was beloved by all who knew him and his demise was learned with sorrow and regret by his hosts of friends in Kellnersville and the surrounding vicinity. The deceased was born in Czechoslovakia on September 17, 1853 and at the age of eight years in 1861 he emigrated with his parents to this country, coming to Manitowoc county, where he resided ever since. At the age of 12 years he was apprenticed in the trade of shoe maker, and after serving his apprenticeship he engaged in the trade for himself and up to a short time ago he was actively engaged in it. He thus rounded out over sixty years at his trade. Wife, Nine Children Survive In 1878 he married Catherine Reif, daughter of Peter Reif, one of the earliest settlers of Kossuth. There were fourteen children born and nine survive as follows: Atty. Lawrence W. Ledvina, Joseph P. Ledvina, former clerk of court, Mrs. Joseph F. Swoboda, all of this city, John of Bayport, Minn., Edward, Maribel, Jerome V. Ledvina, district attorney of Price county, Mrs. Lawrence Morrisey of Maple Grove, Mrs. Alvin J. Drengler of Suring, Wis., and Mrs. Henry Drasner of Francis Creek. The two brothers Matt Ledvina of Franklin and Joseph Ledvina of Glenn Flora, Wis., one sister, Mrs. Alfred Stoker of Glenn Flora, twenty-two grand children and one great grandchild also survive. Prominent in Church Circles The deceased was a life long member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church at Kellnersville, and of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin of that congregation, being originally a charter member of Branch No. 2 of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin located at Manitowoc. He was also a member of the Bohemian Roman Catholic American Union and of the Holy Name Society of his church. Solemn funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Kellnersville on Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. J. G. Rous, with interment at the Catholic cemetery at Kellnersville. LAWRENCE W. LEDVINA cemetery #26 LAWRENCE W. LEDVINA (Rep.), of Two Rivers, was born in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc county, September 28, 1880. He attended the common and parochial schools of that county and at the age of sixteen began teaching school, which profession he followed for six years at Kellnersville and in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. In 1902 he was elected president of tile Manitowoc County Teachers' Association. Graduated from the law department of the University of Wisconsln in 1906. He is at present engaged in the practice of law at Two Rivers. He holds the highest national office, that of chief Justice in the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. In the last four campaigns he was engaged in campaigning in the Bohemian language under the auspices of the National Republican Committee. He was elected to the assembly in 1904 being the youngest member that session and the only Republican ever elected from his district. He was elected again in 1906 and was re elected in 1908, receiving 2,183 votes against 572 votes for Joseph Konop (Dem.). CHARLOTTE LEE cemetery #43 Charlotte M. Lee, age 79, of 1327 Hamann Road, Manitowoc, died peacefully, Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center. Charlotte was born on Sept. 5, 1928, in Marinette, daughter of the late Sylvester and Ellen (Stiles) Ritz. She attended Green Bay East High School graduating with the class of 1947. On Dec. 27, 1951, she married Patrick Lee at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. Along with her husband, Charlotte was owner and operator of Lee's Clover Farms Grocery Stores for 15 years and was later employed by Prange-Way until its closing. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) LARS OLAF LEE cemetery #82 Olaf Lee, 59, of 227 River Terrace, Kiel, a vice-president and sales manager for Stoelting Bros. Co., there, died Saturday afternoon at a Fort Atkinson Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his cottage on Lake Ripley. He was baptized Lars Olaf Lee and was born Nov. 18, 1915 at Deerfield, a son of Anges Grevstadt Lee and the late P. A. G. Lee. He was a graduate of Deerfield High School, attended state teachers college at Whitewater and graduated with the class of 1941 with a degree in business administration. He taught school in Jefferson for a year. On June 10, 1945 he married Marie Stoelting in Kiel. In 1946 he became affiliated with Stoelting Bros. Co., Kiel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, its choir and Sunday school superintendent for 27 years. He was a member of the former Manitowoc County School Committee. Survivors are his widow; five daughters (private); a granddaughter; his mother of Deerfield; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Anderson of Madison, and Mrs. Tom Phillips of McFarland; three brothers, Gerhard of Madison; Sigurd of Mankato, Minn., and Peter of Clemson, S. Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Leggio was born April 1, 1886, in Messina, Sicily, son of the late Theodore and Antonia Calabresse Leggio. He married Carmela Tramantana April 23, 1910, at Messina. The couple came to America and Rockwood in 1911 and he was employed 35 years by Alwood Lime Co., retiring in 1949. During World War II he was employed by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Romy (Antoinette) Gosz, of Rt. 1, Whltelaw, Mrs. Wenzel (Marie) Chvala, of Rt. 1, Maribel, and Mrs. Randolph (Anna) Bleser, of Goodwin Road, Manitowoc, a son, Theodore, of Milwaukee; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. MARGARETHA LEHMKUHL cemetery #44 CROSSED DEATH'S RIVER Mrs. J.D. Lehmkuhl Passed Away at an Early Hour This Morning. LIVED IN COUNTY 50 YEARS. Deceased Aged 81 Years, 8 Months and 12 Days.-Funeral Will be Held on Monday Afternoon. Mr. J.D. Lehmkuhl passed from earth at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.M. Carstens, 1010 Washington street, at three o'clock this morning. For more than three years she has been suffering from the infirmities incident to old age and since last July has been confined to her bed. Although not unexpected her death was a severe shock to the family and they have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their dark hour of affliction. Mrs. Lehmkuhl was a woman highly respected by all who knew her, a faithful and conscientious christian. To the family she was a kind and loving mother, whose presence will be sadly missed; by her friends and acquaintances she was recognized as a just and considerate woman. The deceased was born in Bremen, Hanover, May 7, 1817, and moved to this country in 1848, locating in the town of Newton. Thirteen years ago, in company with her husband she removed to this city, where she has since made her home. Her husband preceeded her to the other shore about five years ago. Five children who survive her are, Mr. J.G. Lehmkuhl and Mrs. E.M. Carstens of this city; Henry Lehmkuhl, Newton; Mrs. Fannenstock, New York; Mrs. H. Dane, Milwaukee. The funeral will be held from the home of Mr. Carstens Monday afternoon at one o'clock. She was born 07 May 1817 in Hanover near the city of Bremen and came to America with her husband in 1848. The pair settled in Town Newton, Manitowoc County, when it was a wilderness and worked their way through all the difficulties of pioneer life. About 13 years ago, after they had turned the farm over to their sons, the old couple became residents of Manitowoc. There were 8 children born of the marriage, of whom 3 are deceased. The surviving children are: Mrs. Anna Fahnestock of New York, Mrs. Lena Daue of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Ida Carstens locally, as well as sons Gerhard J. and Heinrich A. Lehmkuhl. Her body was laid to rest Mon. afternoon at the city cemetery under the direction of Pastor Romoser of the German Methodist Church here. EARL LEHNER cemetery #82 Earl A. Lehner, Retired Kiel Banker, Dies at 73 Earl A. Lehner, 73, 1107 7th St., Kiel, a retired State Bank of Kiel president, died early Monday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been three weeks. He was born Jan. 12, 1900 in Oconto County, son of the late August and Caroline Hoberg Lehner. The family moved to Chilton where he attended public school and graduated from Chilton High School in 1918. He was employed at the National Bank, Chilton, for six years prior to becoming affiliated with the State Bank of Kiel, where he was assistant cashier from 1924 to 1934 when he was promoted to cashier. He was elected bank president in 1964 and served until 1967. He was presently serving as a bank director. Mr. Lehner was a World War I veteran and operated an insurance agency in Kiel. He was a member and former elder and trustee of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, a former master of Kiel Lodge 336 F. and A.M., a past patron of Kiel Chapter 281 Order of Eastern Star, a past president of the Calumet Shrine Cub, a member of the Valley of Green Bay Consistory, Tripoli Temple of Milwaukee, Kasper-Beckley- Wilkins American Legion Post 99 at Kiel and its financial officer for 40 years. He received his 50-year banking certificate in 1967 from the Wisconsin State Bankers Association, and a 50-year certificate from the Masonic Lodge in 1971. He served as Christmas seal chairman at Kiel for 19 years and was also the local Salvation Army treasurer. On July 29, 1925 he married Valeria Mehlberg in Sheboygan. Survivors are his widow; a daughter, a son, five grandchildren, and two brothers, Lester of Chilton and Carl of Dinuba, Calif. (Survivors edited for privacy) A sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Kiel. The Rev. Joseph Anderson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 4 p.m. Wednesday, until 11 a.m. Thursday, and at the church from noon until the time of services. A Masonic memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Kiel Masonic Lodge and First Presbyterian Church. ERNEST C. LEHRKE cemetery #82 Ernest C. Lehrke, 65, of R. 1, New Holstein, a retired farmer, died Wednesday afternoon at Winnebago State Hospital at Oshkosh. He was born Dec. 17, 1903, at Shawano, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Lehrke. On June 5, 1928, he was married to Mathilda Wagner at Chilton. They operated a farm near Osman for a number of years. The past five years they lived in the Town of New Holstein. Earlier they lived at Chilton for seven years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. (Survivors omitted for privacy) Two brothers and six grandchildren preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Rev. C. L. Riter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery.
