The deceased was a daughter of the Mr. Hermann Lindemann from the Township of Eaton."-interpretation by Emilie B. Lindemann (Comment: The obituary of Auguste Klug née Lindemann does not scarcely mention her by name. It was as if the weekly newspaper in which published this notice reported…what's with all of the commotion in town? It was the funeral yesterday- the church bells tolled 23 times for Auguste Klug-then the procession left First German Ev. Lutheran Church and headed up to big hill, to bury her remains at Evergreen Cemetery. What's more, her father brought the family via horse and carriage to town, all of the way from the Township of Liberty where they have lived for the past year) (sent in by researcher/see contributors page)

He was born in Russia in 1895. When he came to this city last January, he was a guest at the August Gloe home. He met James Gloe, a son of the Gloes, in Germany shortly before V-E day while he was acting as an interpreter for the American military government in which Gloe was an officer. It was the Manitowoc man who suggested that Klustin come to America which he eventually did. For a time he was employed by the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company. Taken into captivity when the Wehrmacht overran Yugoslavia, Klustin was saved from the brutal labor policy of a German slate mine by his mastery of five languages and was pressed into service as an interpreter for the Nazis. Following his arrival in this city, Klustin, told a Herald-Times reporter that the Nazi taskmasters at the slate mine were leading examples of animal brutishness and reported witnessing numerous acts of cruelty on the part of Nazi guards. After the German surrender Klustin continued working for the AMG until he was able to arrange passage to this country. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight. HENRIETTA KNAAK cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 14 Feb. 1901: Death on Mon. evening, following a long illness, of 61-yr. old S. 9th St. resident Mrs. Henriette Knaak. The deceased, who had lived in our city over 40 yrs., suffered a series of bereavements in recent years - 4 children and her husband died one after the other. She is survived by one sister. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. ******** DEATH BRINGS A KEEN SORROW Death has seldom brought a deeper sorrow to friends than in the announcement of the demise of Mrs. Henrietta Knaak, which occurred at her home 1402 South Ninth Street, Monday evening, after a protracted illness. Mrs. Knaak was 61 years of age and had been a resident of the city for more than 40 years. Of late she had been an invalid, and the closing years of her life were marked by sorrow and trouble. A happy family, a few years ago, death entered its midst and one by one the children, four in number, were claimed, until but one remained. The father's health was broken by the death of his children and he too gave up. With the death of her husband, the health of Mrs. Knaak failed rapidly and although tenderly cared for by a loving daughter, who is now the sole survivor of the family, she was unable to recuperate and at last the presence of the Grim Messenger released her to join the loved ones gone before. Mrs. Knaak was a woman loved and esteemed by a large circle of friends and many a heart will be saddened in the knowledge that she is no more. To the bereaved daughter, Miss Augusta, the sympathy of the community will go out. The funeral will be held Friday. GEORGIA B. KNAPP cemetery #4 From Der Nord Westen, 15 June 1905: A terrible accident happened Tues. evening near Quarry, which lies on the Wisconsin Central Railroad about 16 miles from here. A bridge crosses the Manitowoc River there and it appears as though Miss Georgia Knapp, daughter of Quarry resident A.D. Knapp, along with other girls, tried to climb into a rubber boat. Whether she slipped or whether the boat tipped, the other girls were not able to say, but she fell into the water which was swollen and turbulent because of the recent heavy rains. She drowned within sight of her companions. John Last, a young man who is in the employ of the Knapps, and who saw the incident, jumped in to save her, but was picked up by the wild stream and he quickly drowned as well. The 2 girls, who had been witness to the event without being able to help, went screaming to the Knapp residence and told the parents of the misfortune…. Help was obtained and the search begun for the bodies as soon as grappling hooks arrived from Manitowoc, and with their use both bodies were found yesterday morning. John Last comes from Grafton, Fond du Lac County, where his parents reside. His father was notified by telegraph and arrived yesterday to claim his 24-yr. old son’s body. Miss Knapp was 16 yrs. of age and was her parents only child. The poor mother was so terribly stricken by the event that one fears for her life.
