ALLEN J. KLEMAN cemetery #44 Allen J. Kleman, 70, of 1318A S. 16th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Kleman was born Mar. 15, 1902, at Manitowoc, son of the late Michael and Dorothy Meyer Kleman. He was graduated from Manitowoc Business College. He served as deputy city clerk of Manitowoc in 1920. He married Hattie Witthuhn April 24, 1943, at Manitowoc. He was employed at the Railway Express Agency until his retirement in 1958. He was a member of Manitowoc Lodge No. 65, Free and Accepted Masons, Senior Citizens of Manitowoc and Manitowoc Chapter No. 16, A.M. Survivors include his wife and nieces and nephews. ELAINE G. KLEMAN cemetery #43 Elaine G. Kleman, age 81, of 1788 Cherokee St., Grafton, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2005, at her residence. She was born March 28, 1924, in the state of Maine, daughter of the late Lincoln and Helen Bircholz Looker. Elaine was a graduate of Shawano High School, class of 1941. On April 10, 1948, she married Norman L. Kleman in Green Bay. He preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1997. Elaine volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader from 1963 to 1980 in Palatine, Ill. She also volunteered for the EAA from 1970 to 1998 and was involved with the Antique Airplane Association for many years. Elaine was a past member of the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was also preceded in death by her stepmother: Lucy Looker. ELMER P. KLEMAN cemetery #43 Elmer P. Kleman, age 89, formerly of 1211 Nagle Ave., Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon, March 3, 2003, at North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Elmer was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Branch, son of the late Nicholas M. and Erma Coutley Kleman. He was educated at Branch Grade School and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1931. He then attended Manitowoc County Teachers College in 1932 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1949. In 1953 he was licensed to teach mentally retarded students and in 1965 he received his master's degree in guidance and counseling from UW-Milwaukee where he did post graduate work. On Oct. 19, 1940, he married the former Mildred Manlick at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in 1968. Elmer taught rural school for 22 years in Manitowoc County, 17 years in special education at Woodrow Wilson and five years at Riverview School. He was associated with and a member of the following: A.R.P. serving as past officer; Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Parish; Council for Exceptional Children; American Red Cross; Manitowoc County Historical Society; Board member for Manitowoc County Expo; Manitowoc Elks Lodge #687; Manitowoc Senior Center; YMCA; and a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus. Mr. Kleman had memberships in the following: National Education Association; Wisconsin Education Association; and Manitowoc Education Association. He held offices in the following: M.C.R.E. Association; Manitowoc School Masters Club; and Manitowoc County Education Association. He retired in 1976 after teaching 44 years. He also did substitute teaching in Two Rivers Public Schools for seven years after retirement and did counseling on the psychiatric ward at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center part-time for six years. MICHAEL KLEMAN cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 01 Feb. 1894: Death of farmer Michael Kleemann, assessor of Town Manitowoc, early last Sat. at his residence on Town Line in Town Manitowoc. He had been a resident of this county for 38 yrs., reached the age of 65 yrs. and had been ill for a long time. The funeral took place Mon. morning at the Catholic Cemetery, and the local G.A.R. Post participated.


MICHAEL C. KLEMAN cemetery #44 Michael C. Kleman, 75, one of the owners of the old Palace Steam laundry on Jay street, died at his home, 1013 S. 17th street, this morning after suffering a hemorrhage. He had not been in the best of health but was not seriously ill until this morning. Mr. Kleman was one of the organizers and part owner of the Palace laundry in 1898. He retired from active management in 1921. Mr. Kleman was born in the Town of Kossuth Oct. 29, 1863. He married Miss Dora Meyer in this city Oct. 5, 1889 and they were looking forward to observing their golden wedding anniversary this fall. Besides the widow, the survivors are one daughter, Adna, at home; two sons, Rueben of this city, and Allen at home, four grandchildren (private) and one great grandchild (private) A daughter, Carmen, died in 1900. Mr. Kleman served a term in the City Council about 30 years ago as alderman from the fifth ward and took an active interest in affairs of the Democratic party. He was a member of the Royal League. The body will be removed to the residence from the Pfeffer Funeral home Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. A.C. PETER KLEMAN JR. cemetery #38 Peter Kleman, 90, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient since April 29. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Kleman was born Nov. 5, 1882, at Chilton, son of the late Peter and Sophia Lindauer Kleman. He married Sophie Mailand Oct. 25, 1910, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Silver Lake. The couple farmed in the Town of Kossuth until retirement in 1950. Mr. Kleman also did carpenter work. He was the oldest member of St. Anne Church and the Holy Name Society of the church. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in 1960. Mrs. Kleman preceded him in death June 9, 1970. Survivors include a son, Robert, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, three daughters, Mrs. George (Lucille) Gosz, of Rockwood, Mrs. Joseph (Violet) Brockhoff, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Reinhart (Elaine) Kubsch, of Rt. 1, Kewaunee; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. OLGA B. KLEMM cemetery #44 Olga B. Klemm, age 81, a former Route 1, Whitelaw, resident, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Olga was born July 4, 1918 at Harvard, IL., the daughter of the late Herman and Mathilda Dorrow Behm. She grew up and was educated at Harvard, IL, and during World War ll she worked for the Red Cross and then at a defense plant in Phoenix, AZ. Married to Marvin A. Klemm January 1945 at Marengo, IL. Marvin preceded her in death Aug.16, 1981. Olga was employed at Cool City Cleaners, Two Rivers, for many years prior to her retirement in 1976. A member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Polo, IL, Olga enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting for family and friends. Survivors include: Three sons and daughters-in-law, two daughters and a son-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law. Twenty-two grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. ALFRED E. KLEMME cemetery #82 Former Kiel Resident Killed in Accident Fond du Lac County Car Crash Fatal Alfred Klemme, 24, is Dead as Results of Skull Fracture He Sustained in Crash Kiel – Alfred Klemme, 24, former resident of Kiel and late of Evanston, Illinois, was killed instantly Monday at 10 p.m., when the car he was driving sideswiped an auto driven by Melvin Dorn of St. Anne on County Trunk U, between Marytown and Wolf Lake. Mr. Klemme died of fractured skull, and the left side of his face was crushed. Milton Klemme, brother of Alfred, from Chicago, sustained cuts and bruises about the face, and Julian Schmitts of New Holstein was reported bruised slightly about the body. As far as can be ascertained the Dorn boy was not injured. The accident happened when the coupe driven by Alfred Klemme, and the sedan driven by Mr. Dorn, sideswiping locked left front wheels. Vacationing At Kiel The deceased was spending a month’s vacation with his father who lives near Kiel. The body will be brought to the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home here, and the services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. The deceased was born in Webster, July 4, 1910. The family moved to Kiel while Alfred was still a boy, and he received his early education there. For the past six years he has been located in Evanston. He is survived by his father, August, of near Kiel; three sisters, Mrs. Herman Wolff, Mrs. Ruth Spielmann and Miss Esther Klemme, all of Chicago; three brothers, Victor and Milton of Chicago, and Hugo, living with his father, August. AUGUST KLEMME cemetery #82 August Klemme Dies at His Farm Home Near Kiel Kiel – August Klemme, 68, passed away on his farm home a mile north of here Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 o’clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home with burial in the family lot in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Klemme was born in Sheboygan Falls May 1, 1873 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Klemme and was married to Julia Uproff 46 years ago in town Herman. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1921, and a son, Alfred, in 1935. BLANCHE O. KLEMME cemetery #82 Miss Blanche O. Klemme, 59, a former Milwaukee resident, died Thursday afternoon, after a lengthy illness, at Calumet Homestead Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had resided the past five weeks. She was born April 12, 1925, in Kiel, a daughter of Viola Winkel Klemme and the late Walter Klemme. She was a 1943 graduate of Kiel High School. Miss Klemme then moved to Milwaukee, where she did secretarial work. For the past six years she was employed at the Robert W. Baird Co., until ill health forced her retirement. She moved to Kiel in 1982. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Surviving are her mother, of Kiel; a sister (private); and a brother (private). ELSIE S. KLEMME Mrs. Harry Klemme, 86, of 10 E. Fremont St., Kiel died unexpectedly at her home Thursday morning, apparently after being stricken by a heart attack. The former Elsie Voland, she was born October 30, 1898. in the Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc County), a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Pickruhn Voland. She attended school at Kiel and Elkhart Lake. On October 16, 1920, she and Harry Klemme were married at Louis Corners. They resided in Kiel, where Mr. Klemme and his brother operated the Kiel Roller Mill for 34 years. Mr. and Mrs. Klemme celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1970. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, and a charter member of its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors are her husband; two sons (private); 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Hilda Prahl of Kiel. She was preceded in death by one son, one granddaughter, one sister and one brother. Funeral services will be on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Rev. HARRY KLEMME cemetery #82 Harry H. Klemme, 91, formerly of 10 East Fremont St., Kiel, died Thursday afternoon, at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where he had been a resident since January. He was born on Jan. 12, 1897 in Louis Corners, the son of the late Henry and Ottilie (Thielke) Klemme. He attended school in Louis Corners. On Oct. 16, 1920, he married Elsie Voland. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1970. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1985. Klemme and his brother, Walter operated the former Kiel Roller Mills for 34 years until retiring, Klemine operated a 675 acre state licensed fur farm which the state purchased in 1962 and is now known as the Kiel Marsh and also donated the Kiel dam to the City of Kiel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, and was on the church council for 15 years as treasurer. He represented Manitowoc County on the Wisconsin Conservation Congress in Madison for 15 years and was a director of Citizens State Bank of Kiel for 34 years. Survivors are two sons, 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Laura Chamberlain of Madison. A son, Ralph; a brother, a sister and a granddaughter preceded him in death. HENRY KLEMME cemetery #82 H. Klemme, 79, Dies of Influenza Lifelong Resident of This Community Passes Away First Day of New Year Henry Klemme, a life-long resident of this county passed away at his home on Fremont street in this city on New Year’s morning. He had apparently recovered from an attack of influenza, and had left his sick-bed. His body was still in a weakened condition, however, and he suffered a relapse in spite of all medical attention, he was unable to muster enough strength to overcome the illness. The deceased was born in this county February 25, 1859 and at the age of six years moved with his parents to the family homestead in Louis Corners. On Nov. 29, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Otelia Thielke also of Louis Corners and the couple continued living on the homestead. For the past thirteen years they have lived in this city. Besides his wife he leaves the following children: Mrs. John Rabe, Walter, and Harry Klemme of this city, and Mrs. Fred Chamberlin of Peoria, Ill.; one brother Herman at Stratford and the following sisters, Mrs. Charles Miller of Antigo, Mrs. Ernst Glaeser of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. John Schmidt of Louis Corners, Mrs. D.R. Connell of Beloit, and Mrs. Carl Thielke of Kiel. The funeral was held this afternoon at 1 :30 from the home and at 2 o’clock from the Reformed church. The Rev. O. Saewert conducted the services and the body was laid to rest in the Kiel cemetery. - 1929 ******* Henry Klemme, Kiel Resident Dies There Henry Anton Klemme, well known and highly respected citizen of Kiel passed away there Tuesday after a three weeks illness, as a result of a heart attack. Mr. Klemme was born February 25, 1859, on a farm near Johnsonville in Sheboygan county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Klemme. He was united in marriage to Miss Ottille Thielke of Louis Corners, on November 29, 1885, and the couple located on a farm at Louis Corners which they conducted until thirteen years ago when they moved to Kiel. A wife and four children, six sisters and one brother survive. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at two o'clock from the St. Peter's Reformed church. HUGO H. KLEMME cemetery #82 Hugo Klemme, 67, Chicago, a former Kiel area resident, died in Chicago Wednesday. He was born near Plymouth, Sept. 24, 1902, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Klemme. He had been a Chicago resident for about 40 years, but prior to that had lived north of Kiel. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Norma Wolf, Chicago, and Mrs. Esther Bishop, Twin Lakes, Wis., and two brothers, Victor and Milton, both of Chicago. He was not married. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor of St. Peter UCC, Kiel, officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. IDA SOPHIE KLEMME cemetery #87 Called By Death. Death claimed Mrs. Walter C. Klemme of Louis Corners on Sunday morning, after an illness of five months, due to paralysis of her left side, followed by softening of the brain. Ida Sophie Winkel was born March 11, 1895, in the town of Schleswig, where she grew to womanhood. October 27, 1915, she was united in marriage to Walter C. Klemme, the couple making their home on the Henry Klemme farm, where they have since resided. Mrs. Klemme's untimely death will be greatly mourned by her husband, relatives and friends as she was possessed of a lovable disposition and was well liked by all who knew her. Besides her husband she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Winkel, four sisters and two brothers. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home, with interment in the Louis Corners cemetery, Rev. L. Witte officiating. - September 25, 1919


JULIA KLEMME cemetery #82 Death claimed Mrs. Aug. Klemme at her home in the town of New Holstein, near Kiel, Monday night, after a lingering illness with dropsy. Julia Uphoff was born in the town of Herman, Sheboygan county, Sept. 3, 1877, and was united in marriage to August Klemme in 1899. After nine years residence in the town of Sheboygan Falls the family moved to Wood county, and some years later came to Kiel. For the past six years they have resided in the town of New Holstein. Besides her husband she leaves four sons, and three daughters, her father, Wm. Uphoff of the town of Herman, and several brothers and sisters to mourn her death. The funeral will take place this, Thursday, afternoon, with interment in the Kiel cemetery. 1921


LINDA KLEMME cemetery #82 Linda A. Klemme, 90, formerly of Kiel, died Saturday at Calumet Homestead in New Holstein, where she lived the past six years. The former Linda Boeger was born Jan. 1, 1894, in the Town of Plymouth, a daughter of Fredrick and Marie Karstaedt Boeger. She attended district school. She married Otto Klemme on Oct. 28, 1916, at Saron Church in the Town of Plymouth. The couple farmed in Town of Schleswig until 1946, when Mr. Klemme died and Mrs. Klemme moved to Kiel. She was employed by Freis Von Kiel until retirement in 1960. Mrs. Klemme was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, the Womens Guild, and Kiel Senior Citizens. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eldon (Mariele) Buchholz of rural Kiel; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A son, a granddaughter, and two brothers preceded her in death. OTTILIE KLEMME Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Klemme, 94, who died Thursday morning at her home, 214 Freemont St., Kiel, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. The former Ottilie Thielke was born in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, on Feb. 17, 1862, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thielke, pioneer settlers of the township. She obtained her early education in the district shool of the township and was married on Nov. 29, 1885, to Henry Klemme of Schleswig. The marriage ceremony, the first in Zion Lutheran Church of Louis Corners, was performed by the late Rev. Martin Denninger. The couple operated a farm near Louis Corners until 1915, then moving to Kiel where Mr. Klemme died Jan. 1, 1929. Mrs. Klemme was active in the church and the Frauen Verein of the church. On her 90th birthday Mrs. Klemme was a special guest of the Frauen Verein and she took part in the program, reciting poetry from memory. Her lifelong hobby was growing flowers. Surviving Mrs. Klemme are two daughters, Mrs. John (Selma) Rabe of Kiel and Mrs. Fred (Laura) Chamberlin of Madison; two sons, Walter and Harry of Kiel, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great granchildren. In addition to the husband, four brothers and a sister preceded her in death. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, from 2 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state until the hour of service.


RALPH W. KLEMME cemetery #82 Ralph W. Klemme, 61, of 709 Milwaukee St., Kiel, died this morning at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 30, 1923, in Kiel, a son of Harry and Elsie Voland Klemme. He was a 1941 graduate of Kiel High School. On Dec. 16, 1944, he married Marcella Mayer in Kiel. Mr. Klemme was a Kohler Co. employee and was a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel and was a past member of the Church council and Kiel Municipal Band. Survivors are his wife, two daughters (private); his parents of Kiel; and two brothers, (private). He was preceded in death by a daughter. Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. VIOLA KLEMME cemetery #82 Viola I. Klemme, 86, of 822 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Thursday morning, July 12, at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, after a brief illness. She is the former Viola Winkel, born April 17, 1904, in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Fred and Emilie Feldt Winkel. She attended district schools in Rockville. On September 27, 1924, she married Walter c. Klemme in Louis Corners. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death on January 25, 1978. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid in which she held several offices. Survivors include one son, one daughter, eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Blanche Klemme. Funeral services were held Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Richard Warnke, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. WALTER C. KLEMME cemetery #82 Walter C. Klemme, 86, of 822 4th St., Kiel, died Wednesday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. He was born Dec. 13, 1891 on the Klemme homestead farm at Louis Corners, a son of Henry and Ottilie Thielke Klemme. He was educated in the district school and later took a two-year short course in farming at the University of Wisconsin. On Dec. 27, 1915, he married the former Ida Winkel. She died in September 1919. On Sept. 27, 1924, he married Viola Winkel at Louis Corners. Mr. Klemme joined a brother, Harry, in the operation of the Kiel Roller MIlls in 1920. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, and was secretary of its council for 17 years and secretary-treasurer of the Aid Association for Lutheran branch for 32 years. In 1927 he retired and became custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1974. Survivors include his wife; a son, two daughters, eight grandchildren; a brother, Harry, Kiel, and a sister, Mrs. Laura Chamberlin, Madison. Another sister preceded him in death. ADOLPH KLESSIG cemetery #44 PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES AT SON'S HOME Adolph Klessig, a county pioneer who lived his entire 71 years in Manitowoc and Centerville, died at the home of his son, August, 1015 South Twenty first street, early this morning. He had been in failing health for some time and his condition was aggravated by advancing age. He was born in the town of Centerville on December 3, 1858, and lived on a farm and also operated a cheese factory in the township until 11 years ago when he retired and moved to this city. Mr. Klessig married Miss Louise Grasser at Centerville in 1883 and she as well as one daughter, Mrs. Edward Lutze of Cleveland, two sons, August of this city and Herbert at Centerville, three brothers, Max of Page, North Dakota, Otto and Leo of Centerville, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Steffen, Storm Lake, Ia, Mrs. Minnie Rhine, Manitowoc and Mrs. Reinhold Oehmichen of Spring Valley and five grandchildren survive. KLETZIEN cemetery #85 MILWAUKEE MAN DIES ON VISIT TO OLD HOME HERE Gustave Kletzien, 44, former resident of Manitowoc County and born in Schleswig, died suddenly at the home of Walter Hermes, in Mosel, while at the Hermes home on a visit from Milwaukee where he had resided four years. The burial will take place tomorrow at Schleswig. Mr. Kletzien was born July 12, 1883, in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, and was married to Miss Rose Kehoe on June 24, 1902. HERMAN KLETZIEN cemetery #85 Herman Kletzien, 80, of Route 2, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig dairy farmer, died early today at St. Nicholas Hospital after a lingering illness. Born Aug 20, 1872, in the town of Schleswig, a son of Abraham and Amelia Hensel Kletzien, he attended public school at Schleswig. He was married to Ida Duchow, of Collins, Wis., on Dec. 1, 1915. Since his marriage, Mr. Kletzien had operated the homestead farm, eight miles northeast of Kiel, until illness forced his retirement. OTTO KLETZIEN cemetery #85 Otto Kletzien Passes Away Last Rites for Schleswig farmer Held on Wednesday Otto Kletzien, aged 65, passed away at his farm home in the town of Schleswig, six miles northeast of Kiel, on Saturday afternoon at four o’clock, after being ill a week. Mr. Kletzien had been in ill health for the past two years. The deceased, the son of the late Abraham and Emilie Kletzien, was born on the Kletzien homestead in the town of Schleswig, April 12, 1869, and on February 11, 1900, was married to Miss Anna Heidemann, also of Schleswig. The couple located on their farm which Mr. Kletzien purchased 40 years ago. Three children were born to the couple, all of whom are living. Survivors are his wife, two sons and one daughter, Norbert of Walnut, Ill., and Arwin Kletzien and Mrs. Norman Prange of Sheboygan, six grandchildren, Audrey June, Wayne and Robert Kletzien and Virginia, Norman Junior, and Diana Prange; three brothers, William of New Holstein, Herman on the homestead, and Rudolph of Manitowoc, and one sister, Mrs. Carl Perschke of Sheboygan. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock from the family residence, with burial in the Fischer cemetery on the Ucker Road. The Rev. Otto Saewert, pastor of St. John’s Reformed church, Elkhart Lake, was in charge of services. The deceased was a member of the sons of Veterans of America. - 1935

The former Catherine Schwoerer was born June 8, 1914, in St. Nazianz, daughter of Ulrich and Clara Bogenschuetz Schwoerer. She attended St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Nazianz. On June 14, 1939, she married Stephen Klich at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The couple lived in Perkinstown until 1941, when they moved to a farm in the Town of Schleswig. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. FRANCES KLIMENT cemetery #44 Mrs. Joseph Kliment, 80, nee Frances Krejcarek, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Swetlick of Kellnersville, after a lingering illness. She was born in Kossuth in 1864, and was married to Jsoeph Kliment in Kellnersville in 1884. The couple made their home on a farm near Melnik in Gibson, retired in 1930 and moved to Manitowoc. After the death of her husband 12 years ago, Mrs. Kliment moved to Kellnersville to live with her daughter. She is survived by seven sons, Joseph, Charles and Frank of Melnik, Anton, Fred and John of Manitowoc; three daughters, Mrs. Peter Reimer of Manitowoc, Mrs. Stephen Maly of Larrabee and Mrs. Fred Swetlik of Kellnersville; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank of Manitowoc. ADAM KLIMESH Adam Klimesh, 63, of Kellnersville, a retired Town of Carlton, Kewaunee County farmer, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home late Sunday night. BERNHARD KLINDER Cemetery 89A Bernard Klinder of Two Creeks died Saturday at the home of his brother Frank. He was born in Germany in September in 1871 and came to America with his parents one year later. They located at Two Rivers and later on a farm in Two Creeks. For the past seventeen years Mr. Klinder has been an invalid at the home of his brother. He was a patient sufferer and a faithful christian man. Interment took place at the cemetery here Monday. Rev. She was born August 7, 1850. In 1871 she married Martin Klindt and to this union was born ten children, of whom nine yet living. She long suffered from rheumatism, and on Saturday she became paralyzed and lost her speech, and death came on Sunday. She was 42 years, 9 months, and 5 days.

CATHERINE KLINGEISEN cemetery #47 ILLNESS OF WEEK FATAL TO COUNTY WOMAN Ill for a week with complications and illnesses attendent upon advancing age early this morning caused the death of Mrs. Catherine Klingeisen, widow of Frank Klingeisen, at the home of her son, William, Manitowoc Route 4. Mrs. Klingeisen had been a resident of Manitowoc county for 24 years and was 77 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Klingeisen was born in Germany on December 21, 1851 and in January of 1875 married her late husband. The family came to the United States and Manitowoc county 24 years ago and lived here since, Mr. Klingeisen dying three years ago. She is survived by nine children all living in Manitowoc county, and a number of brothers and sisters. Her children are Mrs. Joseph Fischer and Mrs. Walter Meyer, Manitowoc Route 4, Mrs. George Zipperer, Whitelaw, Mrs. Mike Fischer, Silver Lake and Miss Mary at home, four sons, George, Reinhardt and William of Manitowoc Route 4 and Frank of Cato. Two brothers, Frank and George Malland of Manitowoc Route 4 and several brothers living outside of the county, four sisters, Mrs. Thomas Kaufman, Marinette,and Mrs. Theresa Mailand, in California, one sister in Brazil and one in Germany as well as 26 grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Klingeisen was primarily interested in her home and church, her only organization affiliation being with the Christian Mothers of the St. Joseph church at Silver Lake. Funeral services will be from the home at 9 o'clock and from the St. Joseph church at Silver Lake at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning with Father Herman Roger officiating. HUGO KLINGHOLZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 25 June 1891: Death of Hugo J. Klingholz on Sun. morning as a result of injuries received in an accident the previous Mon. He is the son of our outstanding fellow citizen Carl Klingholz, and was born on 13 Nov. 1852 in Manitowoc Rapids. In 1874, at the age of 22, he undertook a partnership with his brother Oscar in operating his father’s mill in Manitowoc Rapids. Oscar preceded him in death several years ago. On 22 Feb. 1878 Hugo married Sophie Lueps, a daughter of the late Jacob Lueps, with whom he had 4 children – 1 son and 3 daughters. Mrs. Klingholz passed away a few weeks ago as we reported at the time. (The article goes on to describe the impact of his death on the community and of the difficult time his parents were having on the loss of their oldest child, having 6 sons and 4 daughters already preceding him in death.) Manitowoc had never seen a more magnificent funeral procession. HUGO KLINGHOLZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 10 Sept. 1896: Death yesterday, after a long illness, of Hugo Klingholz, of consumption. The deceased, who was born 16 Mar. 1850 in Sprockhoevel, Rhineland, came to America in 1869. In 1875 he married Miss Thekla Richter, daughter of Mr. A. M. Richter of Manitowoc. A few years ago Mr. Klingholz fell ill and the illness progressed. Last winter he traveled to Denver hoping that the mountain air would give him relief, but it was too late. His illness grew worse and he returned. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two children – 18 and 14. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. ******* [cause: Brights disease]

RICHARD KLINGHOLZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 11 Apr. 1895: Richard Klingholz, an old settler of Manitowoc, died Tues. afternoon. Mr. Klingholz was born 02 Apr. 1820 in Sprockhövel, Rhineland, and came to America in 1846. In 1848 he came to Manitowoc where he has remained uninterruptedly ever since. In Manitowoc he was engaged in various business ventures and during the war had served for a long time as Sutler of the 9th Regiment. He returned to Manitowoc after the war and established a wholesale liquor business. Mr. Klingholz always enjoyed excellent health until hit by a stroke on Mon. morning, and despite all treatments, died midday on Tues. He leaves a widow and 9 children. KLINGHOLZ TO THIS CITY The body of Mrs. Thekla Klingholz, who died at the home of her daughter-in-law at Patterson, Cal., is expected to arrive here Sunday. Mrs. Klingholz, nee Richter, died Sunday following a short illness and follows the death ofher son, Walter which occurred at Patterson September 16. Mrs. Jacob Faltermayer, a daughter and the only other member of the family, died at Chicago some months ago. Mrs. Klingholz was born in Sheboygan county and was seventy at her last birthday, March 30. She came to this city as a child and was married here to Hugo Klingholz who died in 1896. The widow continued to make her home here until the marriage of her daughter when she moved to Chicago and after her daughter's death moved to the west to make her home with her son. She is survived by two brothers, Hugo Richter of this city and Arthur Richter of Yakima, Washington, and by two sisters, Mrs. Clara Gehm of Chicago and Miss Emily Richter of this city. KLINGHOLZ DIES AT AGE 88 Funeral Will Be Held At Bean Home Here Tuesday Afternoon News of the death of Mrs. Victoria Klingholz, 88, who, up to a year ago was a resident of Manitowoc, was received by relatives here yesterday. The deceased died at the home of her son, Edward, Indianapolis, Saturday at 3pm. Old age was the cause of her demise. The deceased lived in Manitowoc practically her entire life, coming to this city at the age of eight years with her parents from Buffalo, N.Y. where she was born. Her maiden name was Victoria Zimse. She married Richard Klingholz, who passed away thirty-three years ago. Three son and three daughters survive; R.?. Klingholz, of this city, E.C. Klingholz of Indianapolis, Mrs. J.J. Martin of Sedalia, Mo., Mrs. R.M. Pengilly of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Ben Bean of this city. Two sisters, Mrs. Henry Schmidt of Manitowoc and Mrs. L.F. Bodden of Milwaukee, 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive. The body will arrive Monday afternoon and will be taken to the Ben Bean home, corner Seventeenth and Marshall streets from where services will be held Tuesday at 2 o’clock. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery. ALFRED KLINKENBERG cemetery #89A TWO MORE LOCAL BOYS GIVE UP LIFE FOR DEMOCRACY Death At Camp Grant. The body of Private Alfred Klinkenburg of Two Rivers, reached that city yesterday for burial, following his death at Camp Grant. Private Klinkenburg was a son-in-law of Mrs. Kasten, of Two Rivers, who had been summoned to Camp Grant last Saturday by news of the critical illness of her son, also there. She found her son improving but was unable to visit Private Klinkenburg, because of his illness, and soon after her return home messages announced his death. He is survived by his widow. ISABELLE KLINKNER cemetery #43 Miss Isabelle A. Klinker, 76, formerly of 814 Madison St., Manitowoc, who resided at Manitowoc Motor Hotel the past three months, died Monday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. John Hephner will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Miss Klinkner was born Aug. 27, 1897, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Nicholas and Barbara Zauner Klinkner. She resided at Manitowoc until 1943, when she moved to San Francisico, Calif. where she lived until 1963, when she returned to Manitowoc. She was a member of St. Boniface St. Ann Society, Knights of Columbus Council No. 710 Auxiliary, Manitowoc Senior Citizens and the Vocational Homemakers Club. Survivors include a brother, George, of Manitowoc and nieces and nephews. Three bothers (sic) and two sisters preceded her in death. MARIE KLINKNER cemetery 89A Marie Klinkner, age 89, a resident of the Manitowoc Health Care Center, died late Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at the center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 14, 2000, at the Grace Congregational UCC Church, with Rev. Kim Henning officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Rest Cemetery She was born February 22, 1911, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late John and Mary Landt Weber. She attended grade schools and Washington High School in Two Rivers. In 1940, Marie was married to Roland Klinkner in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death, May 16, 1962. KLOIDA cemetery #66 DEATH CLAIMS 7 YEAR OLD BOY LONG ILL Clarence Kloida Had Been Sufferer for Months Death came to end the sufferings of Clarence, 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Kloida, who passed away at the family home at 632 South Eighteenth street early today. The boy had been a sufferer since last March and his condition the past ten days had grown rapidly worse until death came to release him today. The funeral will be held Thursday at 10 o’clock and the body will be taken to Tisch Mills for burial. EMIL J. KLOIDA cemetery #44 Emil J. Kloida, 86, a former resident of 632 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, who had been residing at Holy Family Hospital, died there Sunday evening after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Clement P. Kern will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Kloida was born Dec. 25, 1879, in the Town of Mishicot, son of the late Frank and Mary Rebachek Kloida. He married the former Julia Hunzik (sic) June 25, 1907, at Tisch Mills. The couple moved to Manitowoc where he was employed as a cabinet maker at the old Manitowoc Seating Co., Two Rivers, until his retirement in 1952. His wife preceded him in death May 25, 1957. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George (Lucille) Hodas and Mrs. Arnold Vogel, two sons, Francis and Emil Jr., a sister, Mrs. Anna Rouse, 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren of Manitowoc. EMMA JEAN KLOIDA cemetery #44 Mrs. Francis W. (Emma Jean) Kloida, 66, of 2109 Clark St., Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon at home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home and 11 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Philip Hoffmann will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Kloida, nee Emma Jean O’Reilly, was born July 6, 1912, in Amberg, Wis., daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth McEwing O’Reilly. She was educated in Oconto Falls schools and was married to Francis W. Kloida Oct. 19, 1938, in Manitowoc. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 1978. Mrs. Kloida was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Francis W., three sons and daughters-in- law, (private); a daughter, (private); a brother and sister-in-law, John and Marcella Reilly of Green Bay; a sister, Mrs. Julia Komorowski of Green Bay and seven grandchildren, (private). Five brothers, Bernard, Clarence, Chester, Lloyd and Edward and a sister, Elizabeth, preceded her in death. WALTER KLOKOW cemetery #90 Walter A. Klowkow, 77, Howards Grove-Millersville, died early today at his home following a brief Illness. He made his home with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Scheibl. He was born Feb. 28, 1893, in the town of Herman, a son of the late Frederick and Helen Kegler Klokow. On Oct. 7, 1916 he married to former Elona Kirrchheck. She died in January 1945. In his former years he was a mason, and later worked at the Millersville Box Co., retiring several years ago. Mr. Klokow was a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ at Schwartzwald. Surviving are a son, Arthur, Sheboygan; two daughters, Mrs. Elroy (Norma) Grunewald and Mrs. Scheibl (Gertrude), of Howards Grove-Millersville area; five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Anna Wessel of Plymouth. Preceding him in death were three sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be at St. John church, Schwartzwald the Rev. Dean Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. JOHN M. “BUD” KLOSS cemetery #43 John M. “Bud” Kloss, age 87, of 3804 Memorial Drive, Two Rivers, currently residing at the Hamilton Memorial Home, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at the Hamilton Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley, with entombment to follow in Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc. John was born Nov. 6, 1917 in Manistee Mich., the son of the late Martin and Victoria (Kotarek) Kloss. At the age of 3, John moved to Two Rivers with his family and attended local schools. On July 3, 1941, he married Marie Charlier in Two Rivers. Together the couple resided at their Memorial Drive home for over 55 years, where they raised their five children. John worked for a number of years as an upholsterer for Belonger & Son, before becoming employed with Hamilton Industries, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. John also enjoyed working as a Green Bay Press Gazette distributor in the 1960s, and also a Milwaukee Sentinel distributor into the early 1970s. After retirement, he also worked with the Woodland Shores Sanitary District for the town of Two Rivers from 1980 to 1990. Mr. Kloss was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army from Jan. 27, 1943 to Nov. 17, 1945. John was known by many for restoring and refurbishing antiques for family and friends. Over the years, he taught many kids in the family how to fish on “the rocks” off of Memorial Drive. John enjoyed the outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing, building and flying his own model airplanes and loved all of his dogs named “Gus” through the years. (Survivors omitted for privacy) He was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Pat Thorne; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernice Shallow, Norma Beck, Ray and Cele Platek, Henry Charlier, Don and Adeline Beck, Clarice Charlier and Lois Charlier. Relatives and friends may call at Holy innocents Catholic Church, after 9 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation this evening. Even though his exterior was rough at times, he had a heart of gold and he never held a grudge. He loved his family dearly and was a great husband, father and grandfather. The Kloss family extends a very special thank you to the staff of the Hamilton Memorial Home for their compassionate care given to our husband, dad and grandfather.
