ALBERT E. KLABUNDE cemetery #89A Albert Klabunde, 27, Route 1, Mishicot, died early Saturday when his auto struck a power pole and overturned beside Highway 147 near Mishicot. Janesville Gazette March 18 1957 ARTHUR F. “ROCKY” KLABUNDE cemetery #89C Arthur F. “Rocky” Klabunde, age 77, of Two Rivers, died early Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 2003, at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Louis Sievert, with burial to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the VFW and American Legion Post of Two Rivers. Rocky was born April 1, 1926 in Two Rivers, a son of the late Arthur and Adeline (Schmidt) Kiabunde He attended St. John’s Lutheran School, and Two Rivers Washington High School, where he played basketball and football. He graduated with the class of 1944. Rocky then served with the U.S. Army from September 1944 until June of 1946. On June 10, 1950, he married Marilyn Maruga at St. John's Church Two Rivers. Arthur worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in June of 1986 He also owned Klabunde Real Estate for many years. He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was very active, having served on the church council, and as treasurer. Rocky was also very active in the Two Rivers Senior Center, and was a member of the Travelers Protective Association. He was an avid softball player, and enjoyed woodworking, horseshoes, golfing, and fishing. (Survivors omitted for privacy) His parents and an infant brother, Joseph, preceded him in death. ALMA L. KLACKNER cemetery #44 Mrs. Henry Klackner, 87, of Rt. 4, Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, conducted by Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. John Meyers, of the Manitowoc congregation, will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Klackner, nee Alma L. Schuette, was born Nov. 21, 1886, in the Town of Kossuth, daughter of the late Otto and Minnie Kiel Schuette. She was married to Henry Klackner Oct. 16, 1907, at Manitowoc. He preceded her in death July 31, 1968. Survivors include a son, Karl, of Rt. 4, Manitowoc; a grandchild and a great grandchild. A son and five sisters preceded her in death. ANNA KLAESER cemetery #83 Called By Death. Death claimed Mrs. Anna Klaeser, one of Kiel's old-time residents, on Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock, after a short illness, due to infirmities of old age. Deceased, nee Krause, was born in Bohemia, Austria, June 11th, 1839, and came to America in 1851, with her parents, who settled in Ozaukee county. She was married in 1855 to Joseph Klaeser, who preceded her in death in 1904. The family came to Kiel in 1881, where the deceased has resided up to the time of her death. Thirteen children blessed their union, of whom three died in infancy and two a short time ago. She leaves three daughters and five sons, as follows: Mrs. Chas. Jones of Plymouth, Mrs. S. Salber of Milwaukee and Mrs. Katie Klauck of Kiel; John Klaeser of Milwaukee, Anton of Marion, Wis., and Nic., Jacob and Frank of Kiel. Also one sister, Mrs. S. Leisgeng of Black Creek, 32 grandchildren, 38 great- grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place today, Thursday, at 9 o'clock, with services in St. Peter & Paul's church, Rev. O. Kolbe assisted by Rev. Kuborn of New Holstein and Rev. Schmidt of St. Anna officiating. EMERANDA KLAESER cemetery #83 Mrs. Frank Klaeser, 71, died Sunday morning at her home, 725 Chicago St., Kiel, after an illness of several weeks. A native of Calumet County, the former Emeranda Janty was born Sept. 18, 1885, at St. Anna, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Barnardy Janty. She attended parochial school at St. Anna and on July 19, 1904, was married to Frank Klaeser of Kiel. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1954. The couple made their home in Kiel since their marriage where Mr. Klaeser was employed for 52 years at the A.A. Laun Furniture Co. and its predecessor firm, the Kiel Furniture Co. Mrs. Klaeser was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers' Society of the parish. Survivors are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Emeranda) Mies, Kiel, and Mrs. E (Olive) Wolters, South Bend, Ind.; three sons, Fred and Joseph, of Kiel, and Gilbert of Madera, Calif., and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Five sisters and a brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church,, following brief rites at 9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home in Kiel. The Rev. F.X. Kheil, pastor will be the celebrant of the requiem high mass. FRANK J. KLAESER cemetery #83 Frank J. Klaeser, 77, of 222 Paine St., Kiel, died Friday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. He had been confined there for the past few days. Born in Kiel on March 29, 1880, the son of Joseph and Anna Krause Klaeser, he was married to Emma Janty of St. Ann at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on July 19, 1904, and they always resided in Kiel. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1954. Mrs. Klaeser died June 2 of this year, and since that time he made his home with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mies. Before his retirement a few years ago he was employed as a toomaker at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. for 57 years. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Foresters. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Emeranda) Mies of Kiel and Mrs. Ed (Olive) Wolter of South Bend, Ind.; three sons, Fred and Joseph of Kiel and Gilbert of Madera, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Four sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church following brief rites at 9 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home. The Rev. F. X. FRED KLAESER Fred N. Klaeser Sr., 60, of 406 6th St., Kiel, died of a brief illness early today in Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. A machinist for 44 years, Mr. Klaeser had been employed most recently until his illness by the A.A. Laun Furniture Co. in Kiel. A native of Kiel, he was born July 10, 1906, a son of the late Frank and Emma Klaeser. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School and married Lydia Hartmann of Schleswig, Sept. 25, 1928, in that church. The couple made their home in Kiel since their marriage. Mr. Klaeser was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and a son (names omitted for privacy); six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Emmeranda Mies of rural New Holstein and Mrs. Olive Walters of Kiel, and two brothers, Joseph of Kiel and Gilbert of Madera, Calif. The requiem Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, with the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, celebrant. JACOB KLAESER cemetery #83 Jacob Klaeser Of Kiel Dies Of A Heart Attack. Kiel - Jacob Klaesr, 68, of 618 Paine street, Kiel, died suddenly of a heart attack at 4 p.m. Friday while driving a car in the town of Charlesburg. Born May 2, 1878 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Joseph and Katherine Krause Klaeser, he moved with the family to Kiel in 1880, and resided here since. He was married to Miss Rose Broeckert of the town of Schleswig on Jan. 11, 1916, and for a period of 50 years was employed at the A.A. Laun Furniture Co. here. He retired in August, 1946. His wife passed away April 20, 1936, and survivors are a niece, Miss Marie Broeckert; a brother, Frank, and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Klauck, of Kiel. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. Klaeser was a member of the Holy Name society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 10 o'clock at the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church with Father F.X. Kheil officiating. Interment will be made in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Sunday noon until the time of the services. JOSEPH E. KLAESER cemetery #83 Joseph E. Klaeser, 59, of 629 Freemont St., Kiel, a former tavern operator, died Friday afternoon at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient two days. He was born Feb. 27, 1913, in Kiel, a son of the late Frank and Emeranda Janty Klaeser. On May 25, 1947, he married Geraldine Henschel of Kiel. He operated Joe and Jerry's Tavern in Kiel for 19 years and then worked at Tecumseh Products Corp., at New Holstein for six years. Mr. Klaeser was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 32nd U.S. Army (Red Arrow) Division in the South Pacific. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, its Holy made Society, the Tri-County VFW Post 6707, the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99, the Manitowoc Tribe No. 49, Improved Order of Redmen and the 24-Hour Club of the lodge and the Kiel Fish and Game Association. He was also a former Kiel volunteer fireman. Surviving are his wife, two sons, one brother and two sisters (names omitted for privacy). He was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services will be held Monday with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, with Fr. Francis Kerscher, pastor as celebrant. ROSE KLAESER cemetery #83 Mrs. Jacob Klaeser Passes Away at Hospital Monday Mrs. Jacob Klaeser, 55, passed away at the St. Nicholas hospital at Sheboygan on Monday evening at 10 o’clock, where she had been a patient for three weeks, having submitted to three operations. Mrs. Klaeser, nee Rose Broeckert, was born in the town of Schleswig on March 3, 1881, the daughter of the late Fred and Katherine Broeckert. She was united in marriage on January 11, 1916 to Jacob Klaeser, and they made their home here since. Mr. and Mrs. Klaeser had no children, but raised as their own child, Marie Broeckert, the daughter of Mrs. Klaeser’s brother, whose wife passed away when Marie, now aged 12, was but nine months old. Survivors are her husband, her niece, Marie; a sister, Mrs. Aloys Gellings of St. Nazianz; and two brothers, William of the town of Schleswig and Edward of St. Nazianz. Three brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Klaeser was a member of the Kiel Court of Lady Foresters, the Christian Mothers' Society, and the Alter Society of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church. Funeral services will be held (this) Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the C.J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 9:30 o'clock at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. Father J.J. GUSTAV KLANN cemetery #4 From Der Nord Westen, 27 Jan. 1898 Gustav Klann died Sun. morning in the residence of Mrs. A. Schultz here, after a long illness. The deceased, who has lived until recently in Town Cato, but who had moved here several months ago to be close to superior medical help, had reached the age of 52. He leaves a widow and two children as well as several sisters. The body was taken to Clarks Mills and interred there yesterday.
JOHN KLAPPERICH cemetery #83 John Klapperich, 84, of 715 North St., Kiel, died late Tuesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. Born May 27, 1878, at Marytown, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Klapperich and married the former Katherine Hansmann of St. Anna on Feb. 12, 1903, at St. Ana’s Catholic Church. After operating a farm for two years, the couple moved to Kiel where he was employed at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. until his retirement. Survivors are his wife and a brother, Anthony of New Holstein. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel and the Holy Name Society of the parish. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Kiel following brief family rites at 9 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. KATHERINE KLAPPERICH cemetery #83 Mrs. Katherine Klapperich, 86, a former Kiel resident, died on Monday at St. Nicholas Hospital where she had been a patient for four days. The former Katherine Hansmann was born Oct. 7, 1880, at St. Anna, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Weber Hansmann. She attened St. Anna Catholic School. On Feb. 12, 1903, she was married to John Klapperich of Marytown at St. Anna Catholic Church, St. Anna. The couple lived on a farm near Stockbridge for several years before moving to Kiel. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1953. Mr. Kapperich died April 2, 1963. After the death of her husband Mrs. Klapperich lived at the Anna M. Reiss Home, Sheboygan, and later made her home at Rocky Knoll Sanitarium and Hospital. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Christian Mothers society of the parish. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kreidler, Plymouth, an a brother, William of Glenbeulah. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, celebrant of the requiem Mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He had just worked a full day in the field and was found dead in his bed next morning. He was married on Feb. 11, 1919 to Elsie Menne of Kiel at Ss. Peter and Paul Church. Mr. Klauck was employed at the Stoelting Brothers Co. until his retirement 10 years ago. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the parish's Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens. CHRISTINA KLAUCK cemetery #83 Mrs. Christina Klauck, 89, of 512 5th St., in Kiel, died at her home at 11 a.m. Monday following a lingering illness. Born July 29, 1871, in the Town of New Holstein, a daughter of the late Joachim and Elizabeth Roeder Beivier, she attended the parochial school at St. Anna, and on Nov. 19, 1891, married Nicholas Klauck of Kiel. Following the marriage the couple operated the Beivier homestead farm for 13 years, then moved to Kiel. He preceded her in death in September 1944, three years after the couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Society of the church. Survivors include three sons, Raymond and Isidore, Kiel, and Edmund, Whitefish Bay, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one half-sister, Mrs. Anthony Jarecki of Milwaukee. She was also preceded in death by a son, two sisters and a brother. A solemn high Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ss. CLARA KLAUCK cemetery #83 Mrs. Clara Klauck, 89, of 904 6th St., Kiel, a former resident of Sheboygan, died early Tuesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital after 17 months' illness. A daughter of the late Jacob and Christine Mertens, pioneer residents of Calumet County, she was born Sept. 29, 1865 on a farm in the town of New Holstein. After her marriage to Frank Klauck on Nov. 9, 1882, the couple lived in the town of New Holstein, Kiel and in Sheboygan. They returned to Kiel to make their home in 1944. Mrs. Klauck was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Kiel and the Christian Mothers' Society of the parish. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Katherine Graf, Kiel, Mrs. Adolph (Amelia) Bruns, New Holstein, Mrs. William (Clara) DeSombre, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Florence Rottman, Milwaukee; five sons John of Kiel, Jacob of Kohler, Oscar and Edgar of Chicago, and William of Los Angeles; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. ELEANOR KLAUCK cemetery #82 Rites held Tuesday for Mrs. John J. Klauck Mrs. John J. Klauck, 71, died at Sheboygan Memorial hospital Saturday evening. She had been a patient there for the past week. The former Eleanore Zerler was born in Kiel, June 21, 1884, a daughter of the late Herman and Katherine Bauer Zerler. She attended Kiel grade and high schools and was confirmed at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church. She was married to Mr. Klauck on May 31, 1904. (Survivors omitted for privacy) One sister and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating. EUGENE KLAUCK cemetery #83 Sergeant E. Klauck Is Explosion Victim Kiel residents on last Friday received the shocking news of our sixth war casualty. This time it took one of our boys stationed in Texas, at Camp Bowie. According to information received here, death occurred through an explosion, which took two other serv- icemen, and their superior officer, and wounded twelve others, two of whom are In a critical condition. The four men that were killed were handling a demolition bomb, which accidentally exploded, cause of which can not be accounted for. Sergeant Eugene N. Klauck, 20-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Klauck, was the victim in a "pre-major explosion." Sergeant Klauck had just returned to his training camp a little better than a week before, after enjoying a furlough at his home here. Sergeant Klauck had been training with a combat engineer’s battalion at Camp Bowie since February. He was inducted into the army on March 28, 1943, and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Subsequently he was stationed at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for a refresher course; at West De Pere, Wisconsin, for the army’s A.S.T.P. instruction, and at Camp Wolters, Texas, Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Camp Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Belvoir, Louisiana. The body arrived in Kiel Monday afternoon, accompanied by a military escort, Sergeant Charles Wittford. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 9:30 o’clock at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Kheil officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. He was born in this city on January 11, 1925. He attended the Ss. Peter and Paul parochial school, and graduated from the Kiel high school with the class of 1942. He is survived by his parents; one brother, two sisters, and a grandfather, John Klauck of Sheboygan. Pallbearers were Private Clarence Faust, Marine Corporal Merlin Riehn, Jerome Goebel, Elmer Jochman, James Keppler, and Frederick Wollersheim. The Legion and Legion Auxiliary members attended the services in a body, and at the cemetery had a special service, at which time taps was blown, volleys fired over the grave, and Edgar Paulsen presented the American flag to the parents. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. John Klauck and daughter Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schnur, Mrs. Harry Bohnsack, and Mrs. William Gottsacker of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Klauck of New Holstein; George Baker of near Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker of Elkhart Lake; Adam Becker of Russell; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jeanty and Mr. and Mrs. John Winter of St. Anna; Mrs. Kenneth Robinson and son Tommy, Mrs. Edna Robinson and daughter Lola, and Mrs. Leslie Stier and children of Milwaukee. Corporal Kenneth Robinson of Camp Gordon Johnston, Florida, arrived Wednesday afternoon, at home, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Klauck of Sheboygan.
FRANK KLAUCK cemetery #83 Frank Klauck, 89, passed away Thursday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Graf, Kiel. He was born November 16, 1861, in the town of Newton, Manitowoc county, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Klauck. On November 9, 1882, he was married to Miss Clara Mertens in the town of New Holstein. The couple made their home in the town of New Holstein, Kiel and Sheboygan, through the years, and for the past five years have lived at Kiel. The couple were married 68 years last November 19 (sic). Survivors include his wife; five sons, John of Kiel, Jacob of Kohler, Oscar and Edgar of Chicago and William of Los Angeles; four daughters, Mrs. Oscar Graf of Kiel, Mrs. Adolph Bruns of New Holstein, Mrs. Clara DeSombre of Sheboygan and Mrs. Florence Rottman of Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; one brother, Bernard, of Milwaukee; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Meinert and Mrs. Margaret Hein, both of Kiel. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church. The Rev. F.X. He was born in Kiel and educated in the Kiel schools. He was a graduate of Oshkosh state college. He married Lydia Arnold in Kiel August 20, 1926 and the couple moved to East St. Louis, where Mr. Klauck taught school. Funeral services were held in East St. Louis before the remains were sent here. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Meiselwitz Funeral Home. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Klauck, who had lived at the Abode Nursing Home in Sheboygan for the past few years, was born March 31, 1883 near Marytown, a son of the late Frank and Clara Klauck. He moved to Kiel with his parents and was married to Eleanore Zerler of Kiel, May 30, 1904(sic). The couple lived at Kiel throughout their married lives. She preceded him in death in July, 1958. Mr. Klauck was a cigar maker by trade. He was a member of the Kiel Lodge and National Council of the United States of Improved Order of Redmen. He was a co-sponsor and member of Yellowbird No. 15, Degree of Pocahontas. Born Dec. 21, 1882 in Kiel, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Krause Klaeser. She attended parochial school in Kiel and spent her entire life in the community. On May 14, 1906, she was married to William Klauck of Kiel. He died in September, 1911. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel where the couple was married and also belonged to the Christian Mother Society and Lady Foresters. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Herman (Elvira) Lettenberger of Kiel; one son, Walter, of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank of Kiel. NICHOLAS KLAUCK cemetery #83 Nicholas Klauck Dies After Heart Attack Sunday Nicholas Klauck was suddenly stricken with a heart attack on Sunday morning, and died a few hours later. Mr. Klauck was born at Mequon, Ozaukee county, in 1869, and in 1891 was united in marriage with Christiana Baivier of New Holstein. They located on a farm in the town of New Holstein, and 40 years ago moved to this city, where he was employed at the Kiel Wood Ware Company for many years. In 1941 they had the honor of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Klauck is survived by his wife; four sons, Raymond and Isadore of this city, Edmund of Milwaukee and James of East St. Louis, Illinois; three brothers, Henry of Withee, John of Sheboygan, Benjamin of Milwaukee, and Frank of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Grott of Cleveland, Mrs. Mary Meinert and Mrs. Margaret Hein of this city, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with burial being made in the church cemetery. JOHN KLAUS cemetery #82 John Klaus, aged 63 years, died at his home on Fourth street on Tuesday morning, after an illness of six months’ duration with influenza. He was born in the town of Rhine, April 28, 1853. In 1894 he was married to Dora Gisch. The couple lived on a farm in Rhine for 21 years, and then moved to Kiel, where they have lived since. Their only child died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Volz of this city. The funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Reformed church, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery.
HELEN KLAUSMANN cemetery #21 From Der Nord Westen, 28 Mar. 1907: (From the correspondent in St. Nazianz, 26 Mar.)A sad accident occurred 23 March in the local cloister. The former Mother Superior, Helena Klausmann, known as Old School Helena, was found dead there. Only 15 minutes earlier she had been seen by the other Sisters on the veranda and although no one saw the accident, it is believed that she had a heart attack, fell against the veranda railing, which was old and weak, and when it broke, fell below. She was found in a flower bed filled with stones and sticks, lying face down on the ground in a pool of blood. One eye was pierced and the skull shattered. She was 71 years of age but still healthy and active and was one of the few living first colonists. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am. Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers and 10 a.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, St. Luke Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O’Brien with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Eugene was born Jan. 3, 1925, in the town of Two Rivers, son of the late John and Clara Weber Kleckner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Luke parochial grade school. Eugene worked as a farm hand for Harold Eis from 1942 to 1943 and for Ray Graff from 1943 to 1947. During this time Eugene met his wife, Dorothy A. Stefaniak and they were married July 31, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers, with the Rev. Joseph Gabryszek officiating. They became lifetime members of the church. Following this, he worked for Two Rivers Dairy and then at Mirro Aluminum Company of Two Rivers until being employed by Charlie and Joe Stefaniak. In 1953, Eugene and Dorothy bought Joe Stefaniak’s half of the dairy farm and became partners with Dorothy’s father Charlie, renaming the business the Stefaniak-Kleckner Dairy Farm. When Charlie passed away in 1971, they continued dairy farming as the Kleckner Farm until they retired in 1985, when they switched to cash crop farming to the present. Eugene and Dorothy celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past year on July 31, 2003. WENDOLIN KLEIBER cemetery #51 This was copied exactly as it was written by Mary Weins Kleiber including the many misspellings. Wendolin Kleiber immigrated from Burbach Hungary Germany in 1854, with his brother Andrew, son Michael and his wife Elizabeth (nee) Puser and their son John who was 4 years ol, they had two daughters born in America namely Maery who married John Geiger and Elizabeth who married Joseph Weins. On their way from New York to Menasha they were divided in several groups and Andrew Kleiber was lost from his group on the trip from New York. ----tried several times to losat(locate) him but never heard a word from him to this day. A year later they had landed in Menasha and established a home in Manitowoc county Maple Grove township and 3 miles east of Brillion named Spring Creek at the time Wendelin Kleiber died at the age of 81 years. He was the first man buried in the Kason Catholic cemetery there was no church there at the time it was all weeds later on they build a little meeting house where they would meet on Sundays for prayer. He was buried in a log casket, there caclostedt(closest) tradeing post was Menasha which was a 4 day trip by oxen, so they hollowed out a log and he was buried in it. John Kleiber grandson of Wendolin who married Elizabeth Wurashitz she immigrated kn the year 1856 with her parents at the age of six years on a sail nboat and where on the ocean 6 weeks. When they were on the ocean 2 weeks her one and one half year old brother John died but her mother wanted him buried on land so none of them reported his death but after a few days it was traced and they had to consent to an ocean burial, being packed in straw in a barrel the following day they noticed the straw floating on the ocean, this allmost caused the mothers death, she had been a widew with 2 sons George and Joe Ecker when she married Paul Wurashitz and they had six children and Elizabeth was the only child with the 2 sons of a former marrage she allso inherited small vineyard whuich had gone to rain but after a few years of laber it preved a success to Paul he had to build large tanks that used laddews to get the grapes in these tanks but his father got jealous of him and wished him no good so they decided to sell the vineyard and sailed for America. Paul Vurasitz was a talented story teller and zither player he lead the prayer meeting at the Kassen church untuil they were able to have a priest come once a month from the Reedsville parish. ANNA THERESA KLEILER cemetery #83 Mrs. Anna Theresa Kleiler died of cancer of the liver on Tuesday evening, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed. Konz at New Holstein. The deceased was born in Baden, Germany, July 5, 1848. When she was three years old she came to Hartford, Wis., with her parents. In 1867 she was united in marriage to John Kleiler at Schlesingerville and the couple moved on a farm one mile west of Kiel. Mr. Kleiler died nine years ago. Three years later Mrs. Kleiler sold the farm and since then she has been making her home with her children. Thirteen children were born to them, of whom five survived as follows: Mrs. Mary Grady, Frank Kleiler and John Kleiler of Milwaukee, Jos. Kleiler of Russell and Mrs. Ed. Konz of New Holstein. Services will be held in the Catholic church at New Holstein on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. The body will then be brought to Kiel where services will be held in the church at 9:30. Kiel. -John Kleiler, 54, a former resident of the town of New Holstein, passed away Monday evening at St. Agnes hospital, Fond du Lac, of injuries received Sunday afternoon in an automobile accident in Fond du Lac county. He had been employed in and around Fond du Lac for some time. Born Oct. 13, 1890, in Town New Holstein, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kleiler, survivors are two brothers and two sisters, Frank and Mrs. William Hermond of Milwaukee, Mrs. Edward Konz of New Holstein, and Joseph of Town Russell; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home here, and at 10 o'clock at the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church here. Mr. Klein established his furniture and undertaking business on West Park street here in 1900, retiring in 1922. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 19, 1944. The former Bertha Menne was born December 22, 1889(sic) in the Town of Rhine, a daughter of the late John and Anna Mueller Menne. She attended district schools. On June 25, 1912 She was married to John Klein. The couple made their home in Kiel since their marriage. Mr. Klein died in 1937. Mrs. Klein was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Society and Lady Foresters of the parish, the Kiel Homemakers Club, the VFW Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens Club. EMMA AND MICHAEL KLEIN Truck and Auto Crash After Car Slides on Ice Michael Kleins Are Victims; Two Others Taken to Hospital RANDOM LAKE — Michael Klein, 69, and his wife, Emma, 75, of Rt. 1, Kiel, lost their lives Monday afternoon in a truck-car collision a mile east of here on ice coated Highway 57. The Kieins were in car with their granddaughter, Mrs. Janet Piggott, 22, of Cicero, Ill., and driven by her husband, Richard, 24, when it skidded into an oncoming truck of the Harold Klein Cartage Co. of Milwaukee, driven by Eugene Maletske, 33, of Milwaukee. Mr. and Mrs. Klein died at the accident scene. Both suffered multiple fractures and contusions. Piggott suffered a fractured leg and other injuries and his wife a possible skull fracture. Both are patients at St. Nicholas Hospital at Sheboygan. Maletske, the truck driver, sustained a bruised right leg and was treated at the accident scene. Skid Marks Found Sheboygan County traffic officers reported that 150 feet of roadside fence were ripped off and there were skid marks of both the truck and the Piggott car, which was bound north. Piggott told officers that he noted two trucks approaching from the north and one of the trucks pulled out to pass. He said he thought the passing truck would not be able to pull back into the right lane and applied the brakes. His car struck an icy patch and the two vehicles collided. Maletske told the officers that he had passed the other truck and had swung back into his right lane just before the collision. The officers indicated that the Piggott car was in the wrong lane when the crash came. The Piggott auto was almost a complete wreck, the officers said. Married 50 Years Mrs. Klein, the former Emma Olena Severson was born in 1880 in the town of Eaton, spent her early life in the county and later moved to Evanston, Ill., where she was employed. Her husband was born in Chicago in 1886. The couple was married April 11, 1905, in Evanston. Since that time they have resided in Evanston, Berwick, N. D., and at their present address on a small farm three miles west of St. Nazianz. Mr. Klein was engaged in landscaping and farming. Last April the couple observed their golden wedding with an anniversary mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazlanz, which was followed by a dinner and reception at the opera house in the village. The couple has three sons, Henry of Cicero, Ill, Ralph of Hammond, Ind., and Leonard of Rt. 1, Kiel. There are ten grandchildren. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced Wednesday by the Berge Funeral Rome, Valders. ************ Double funeral rites for Mr. and Mrs. Michael Klein of Rt. 1, Valders, fatally injured Monday afternoon in a truck-car crash on Highway 57 near Random Lake, Sheboygan County, Monday afternoon, will be held Friday. Both Mr. and Mrs. Piggott are hospitalized at Sheboygan but are reported out of danger. The Kleins were being returned to their home west of St. Nazianz from a Chicago visit. The Piggotts had just returned from the west coast and Piggott, who had been in the service planned to resume college at the start of the second semester. The Kleins are survived by three sons, Henry of Cicero, Ill., Ralph of Hammond, Ind., and Leonard on the home farm with whom the Kleins resided, Mr. Klein leaves a brother, Henry of Chicago and Mrs. Klein a brother, Albert of Rt.1, Valders, and two sisters, Mrs. Adolph Wagner of Rt. 1, Valders and Mrs. Leonard Rusch of Rt. 4, Chilton. Mrs. Klein was a member of the Valders Lutheran congregation, an honorary member of the Women’s Federation of the church and a member of the auxiliary of the American Legion Post at Valders. FLORENCE E. KLEIN cemetery #32 Florence E. Klein, age 76, of Two Rivers, died Tuesday afternoon, June 6, 2000, at her residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. David Scherbarth with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. Florence was born February 3, 1924, in Brussels, Wis., daughter of the late Albert and Elinda Eickelberg. She attended Tornado Grade School and graduated from Brussels High School with the class of 1941. She graduated from the Manitowoc Business College in 1942. Florence was then employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company for a few years. She married Marvin C. Klein on September 16, 1944, at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Brussels. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1991. Florence was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and also regularly attended Bible Class at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. Florence was also a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary serving as secretary for many years. In 1887, Anna Dietrich and Mr. Klein were married. She was born in the town of Meeme. They settle on a farm in that Town. He came to Kiel where he managed a furniture store, but moved onto a farm in New Holstein. After two years, he returned to Kiel where he took a job with the Standard Oil Co., which he kept until April of this year, when his health forced him to resign his position. Surviving are his wife; two children, John W. and Mamie; two sisters and a brother. The funeral took place Monday morning at Saints Peter & Paul Church with Rev. Kolbe officiating. The Kiel’s Choir sang hymns. The fire department and the E.F.U. acted as pallbearers. JOHANNA M. KLEIN cemetery #44 Johanna M. Klein, age 89, a Manitowoc resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Johanna was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Helen (Kluck) Van Serke. She grew up and was educated in Manitowoc. On Aug. 12, 1935, she married Alvin F. Klein. Alvin predeceased her in 1988. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish-Marshall, and a member of the residents’ council at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center. Johanna enjoyed her family, freehand drawing, playing bingo, was the scorer for bowling and helped deliver the mail. JOHN KLEIN cemetery #83 Last Sunday evening at 8 PM, Mr. John Klein, well liked in the area, died in his home in the town of Rhine. Not too long ago he contracted “nervous fever” (Typhoid) by which the symptoms of excessive thirst overtook him and his death was hastened. John Klein was born on October 7th 1849 in Nierstein, Germany and came to the America in 1855 with his parents settling in the town of Rhine. On February 1874 he married Miss Louise Mueller who grievingly survives as his widow. The marriage produced 7 children 4 sons and 3 daughters of which one daughter is married (Mrs. Mary Zimmerman). The farm which he worked on until he died, was given to him shortly before his marriage by his parents, who remained there to live. He leaves behind his widow and 7 children, his elderly parents, 4 siblings Joseph H. Klein from here, Heinrich Klein from town Meeme, Mrs. Katharina Lupfer from Sheboygan and Mrs. Justina Leonard from Rockville, as well as 2 grandchildren (the children of Mrs. Mary Zimmerman) The burial took place on Tuesday morning at 9 am from the “Mourning chapel” after the body was in state at the Holy Catholic Church Of St. Peter and St. Paul, as he was a member of that parish. Rev. Schmitz officiated the blessing and he was buried in the Parish cemetery. He died in such high standings in his community, being very popular and loved by those who knew him that there were 170 people in the Procession which bears witness to his high standing. JOHN KLEIN cemetery #83 Kiel Man Is Killed In Highway Accident. Car Goes Off Road, Hits Tree. Accident Near Rocky Knoll Proves Fatal To Resident Of Kiel Early Today. (photo included) Plymouth. — (Special) — John Klein, 50, of Kiel, was killed almost instantly this morning when the car he was driving went off the road on Highway 57, north of Plymouth, above the Rocky Knoll Sanitarium hill. The accident occurred about 3 o'clock this morning. Deputy Sheriff Arthur Seefeldt of Plymouth, who was called to the scene of the accident immediately after it happened, stated this morning that Klein left the road and hurtled along the shoulder for about 250 feet before hitting an iron sign post near the Deep Rock filling station there and wrapping the car around one of the two oak trees he hit. Richard Schmidt of Calvary, route 1, who heard the car go by at full speed and crash, investigated the noise and awakened Henry Payne at the gas station. They then called Deputy Seefeldt. County Traffic Officer Milton Tauscher also was called and the body removed to the Meiselwitz Funeral home at Kiel, after Coroner Harry Heiden pronounced the man dead as the result of a skull fracture. Mr. Klein was born Oct. 5, 1887, in the town of Meeme, the son of the late Henry Klein and Anna Klein. He spent the early part of his, life in Town Meeme. On June 25, 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Menne of Town Rhine and the couple have resided in Kiel since their marriage, except for two years in Milwaukee. Mr. Klein was a salesman for the Sternemann Brothers Tobacco company of Milwaukee and was returning to his home at the time of the accident. He was always connected with the tobacco business and for many the tobacco member of the Redman and E. F. U. lodges and was an active member of the Kiel Municipal band for the past 35 years. Besides his wife and mother, six children also survive. They are: Frederick of Philadelphia, Pa.; Ruth, Margaret and Elaine, at home; Anna Mae Klein, student at the Manitowoc Teachers Training school, and George, at home. One sister, Mrs. Peter Faust, of town Rhine, also survives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church in Kiel, with, the Rev. J. J. JOSEPH KLEIN cemetery #83 Friday afternoon at 3 pm Mr. Joseph Klein died at the house of his daughter in law Mrs. John Klein in the town of Rhine at the age of 85 years 2 months and 11 days, after only a two day long sickness, of old age. He was born February 3rd 1820 in Nierstein am Rhein in Germany and married Miss Katharine Ewald there in 1847. That marriage was blessed with 8 children 5 boys and 3 girls. They emigrated to America in 1856 immediately to the town of Rhine where they built a farm out of the then existing jungle and then lived uninterrupted in the Town. Other than his wife, he is mourned by 4 children, 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren The viewing procession included 6 of his grandchildren (Pallbearers) and took place the following Monday morning from the ‘Mourning chapel” in the Town of Rhine to the St. Peter and St. Paul Church from where the body was taken to the Catholic cemetery for the burial. JOSEPH KLEIN cemetery #83 Joseph H. Klein Of Kiel Is Summoned Following Illness. Kiel, Wis — (Special) —Joseph H. Klein, 79, well-known Kiel retired carpenter contractor, passed away at his home here, 926 N. Sixth street, at 4:45 o'clock this morning after a long illness. Deceased was born Aug. 22, 1861, in town of Rhine, the son of Joseph and Justina Klein. In his youth he became an apprentice in carpentry and learned the trade from the late Frederich Griebenow. In 1886 he took over Mr. Grlebenow's business, which he continued until 1929, when he retired. During his career he built a great majority of the buildings here and in the surrounding community. He was married to Miss Mary Menne of town of Rhine on Feb. 9, 1885, and the couple resided in Kiel since that time. She preceded him in death on July 19, 1938. Mr. Klein was an honorary member of the Men's Catholic Order of Foresters of the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church of Kiel and was a charter member of the Kiel Building and Loan association of which he served as a director for many years. There are no immediate survivors. Only survivors are a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, John and Henry and two sisters, Mrs. Justine Leonard and Mrs. Katherine Lupfer preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church. The Rev. Father J.J. Jura emigrated from Lithuania to the United States as a young girl and was employed as a nurse at a Chicago nursing home. LOUISA KLEIN cemetery #83 Last week on Thursday Mrs Louise Klein (born Mueller) died in her sleep in her home in the town of Rhine. Mrs. Klein died as a result of a brain disorder, from which she had been suffering about one year. During the last few weeks she was unconscious until she died peacefully on Thursday. She was born on December 4th 1851 in the town of Rhine, where she spent her youth as well. In 1874 she married Mr. John Klein and they moved to a farm in the town of Rhine. The marriage was blessed by 8 children, of which 3 sons Joseph and Peter in Kiel, and William in Rhine and 3 daughters Mrs. Fred Zimmerman, Mrs. A. Kestell in Elkhart Lake and Louise in Rhine are surviving. Her husband died 13 years earlier. The funeral will follow a service by pastor Kolbe on Sunday afternoon in the Catholic cemetery there. (No newspaper named, Dec. 1911) ******** After several weeks of illness, the angel of death sealed the eyes of Mrs. John Klein with that sleep from which none wake to suffering or sorrow, on Thursday, December 21. Louise Mueller was born in Sheboygan Dec. 6, 1851, but moved with her parents, when a child, to the town of Rhine, which had since been her home. On Feb. 17, 1876, she was married to John Klein at Kiel, who preceded her to the better country twelve years ago. They began their married life on the groom’s farm in the town of Rhine, which after her husband’s demise, she carried on successfully with the assistance of her children and hired help until her recent illness. On her birthday, Dec. 6th., she became unconcious and never again regained conciousness. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s & Paul’s Church of Kiel at which Requiem High Mass was said for her Saturday morning by Rev. Kolbe and from which she was buried Sunday afternoon. St. Mary’s Ladies’ Society of which she was a member, escorted the remains to their last resting place in the Catholic Cemetery at Kiel. She is survived by 6 children and 10 grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother died in infancy and two brothers, Jacob and --- passed away several years ago. Deceased was a member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, the Christian Mothers society and the Altar society of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church. Members of the --- --- will attend the funeral in a body. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the residence, and at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Peter and St. Paul church. The Rev. MARY ANN KLEIN cemetery #6 From Der Nord Westen, 21 Nov. 1895: Death on Fri. evening of Mrs. Joseph Klein in the dwelling of her son near Hein's Mill in Cato. The deceased, who was 70 yrs. of age, has suffered severely for years from rheumatism and so her death might be considered a release. She is survived by several grown children. The burial took place Mon. morning at the Catholic Cemetery in Clarks Mills.
MARY F. KLEIN cemetery #89B Mrs. Joseph L. Klein, 75, of 1801 East St., Two Rivers, died early Sunday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels and at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Robert Rhyner, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mrs. Klein, nee Mary F. Stehlik, was born Aug. 4, 1897, at Menominee, Mich., daughter of the late Albert and Mary Hallada Stehlik. When she was a child the family brought her to Two Rivers. She attended St. Luke Parochial School and Two Rivers High School and was graduated from Manitowoc Business College. NORMAN N. KLEIN cemetery #44 Norman N. Klein, age 69, a resident of Manitowoc County Health Care Center, Manitowoc, passed away on Friday Nov. 10, 2006, at the center. He was born on Sept. 10, 1937, in Two Rivers, son of the late Arthur and Josephine Hutchison Klein. He attended Mishicot High School, entering the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17, and received his general equivalency diploma during that time. He then joined the U.S. Army and became a Green Beret Special Forces. In 1963, Norman married the mother of his four children: Dawn A. Wagner. (Survivors omitted for privacy) Norman was also preceded in death by two sisters: Alvina Long and Darlene Klein. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the memorial service will be the Rev. Brian Staude. THERESIA KLEIN cemetery #82 Mrs. Theresa(sic) Klein, 80, Is Laid to Rest on Wednesday The death of Mrs. Theresa Klein, aged 80, occurred at 3:50 a.m. Sunday morning, following and illness of five days of pneumonia. Mrs. Klein passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Ira Charles, in the town of Rhine. The deceased was born in Stutternheim-Saxony – Reimer, Germany, on March 2, 1856, the daughter of the late Andraes(sic) and Wilhelmina Strassburg. At the age of one year she came to this country with her parents who located on a farm near Sheboygan Falls. She was united in marriage with Joseph Klein on September 16, 1874, who preceded her in death January 16, 1896. Immediately after the young couple located on the present farm homestead, now owned by her granddaughter, Mrs. Charles. Two children were born to this union, of whom one daughter, Mrs. Emma Zenk, passed away December 1, 1905, and one daughter, Mrs. Augusta Kasper, residing at Hilbert. Survivors are two granddaughters whom she reared and brought up as her own children, Mrs. Albert (Lind) Zenk-Laack of Plymouth, and Mrs. Ira (Erna) Zenk-Laack on the homestead farm; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Jake Jaeckels; and three grandsons, Allen Laack, Merlyn Charles, and Donald Jaeckels. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence in the town of Rhine on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, with services at 2 o’clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. PIONEER IS DEAD, AGE 95 Thomas Kleinbauer, a pioneer resident of the county, died Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N.P. Peterson. Rural Route 4. The demise was due to infirmities incident to old age. Mr. Kleinbauer having reached the advanced age of more than ninety-five years. The funeral will be held Friday with services at 9 o'clock in the morning at St. Mary's Catholic church and burial will be at St. Peter's cemetery in Newton. Born December 19, 1830 in Germany, Mr. Kleinbauer was married in Europe and came to this country at the opening of the Civil war. He settled in this county, owning and operating a farm in the town of Newton for fifty years. His wife preceded him in death twenty-three years ago and two children also preceded the father in death. Surviving are one son, Peter of the city and three daughters, Mrs. N.P. Peterson, with whom he has made his home, Miss. Josephine Kleinbauer of Chicago and Mrs. Rose Peterson of Hartland. Four grandchildren also survive him.
