ERNST R. JOCHIMSEN cemetery #82 Funeral services will be held Friday for Ernst R. Jochimsen, 67, Route 2, Kiel, a Town of Schleswig farmer, who died Tuesday at Calumet Memorial hospital, Chilton, after a ten-day illness. The services will be held at Meiselwitz Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Thursday. Born August 4, 1899, in the Town of New Holstein, he was a son of the late William and Bertha Jochimsen. He was educated in the district schools. On February 21, 1919, he married Leonore Voss of the Town of Schleswig. The couple lived in New Holstein several years before moving to the Voss homestead farm. Mr. Jochimsen was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Redmen Lodge and the 24-hour club of the lodge. Survivors include his wife; one son, Dr. Howard Jochimsen, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two grandaughters; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Hass and Mrs. Frieda Manz both of Kiel. - January 15, 1967

ADOLF G. JOCHMANN Adolph(sic) G. Jochmann, aged 68, life-long resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Sheboygan Memorial hospital, following a short illness. The deceased was born in the town of Schleswig on April 18, 1882, the son of the late Traugott and Wilhelmina Meyer. On August 2, 1913, he was married to Miss Clara Duerrwaechter of near Kiel, and the couple moved to the present farm two miles north of this city, immediately following their marriage. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Evelyn, and a son, LeRoy, at home; a brother, Henry Jochmann of this city; two sisters, Mrs. John Peters of Town Rhine, and Mrs. Julius Spitzer of Kenosha. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Mr. Jochmann was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, the Men's Brotherhood, and served as an elder and deacon in the church consistory. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. - November 4, 1945

ANNA JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Relatives here were notified on Tuesday evening of the death of Anna Jochmann, aged 62, which occurred in the evening of that day at 7:30 at Oshkosh, where the deceased had been the past six weeks. The body was immediately brought to Kiel by the C. J. Meiselwitz Co., and was taken to the John Peters home in the town of Rhine, where she had made her home in recent years. The deceased, the daughter of the late Traugott and Wilhelmina Jochmann, was born Jan. 10, 1879, in the town of Rhine, where she grew to womanhood. She had been an invalid for some years, and death followed a lingering illness. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Adolph and Henry Jochmann of Kiel, and Mrs. John Peters of Rhine, and Mrs. Adela Spitzer, Racine. Another brother, Edwin, died two years ago, and a sister, Mrs. Louis Frick, passed away in Rhine three years ago. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 from the Peters home in Rhine, on Friday, with services at the St. Peter Reformed church here at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the local cemetery, and the Rev. E. L. Worthman will conduct the last rites. - 1931

GOTTHELF JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Lame for about 20 years, Gotthelf Jochmann died at his home on Fourth street last Thursday at 7 a.m. Mr. Jochmann was born in Schlesien, Germany, May 15, 1849. At the age of 16 years he came to America with his parents and settled with them on a farm in Town Herman. Later he worked his way among strangers, working for a time in Iowa. On Jan. 21, 1877 he was married to Miss Mary Deicher and the couple went to live on a farm north of Kiel. Seven children were born to them, two of whom preceded him in death, Emma 27 years ago at the age of 13, and Tena, Mrs. Charles Schmidt, 3 months ago. Mr. Jochmann is survived by his wife; four sons, Herman of Kiel, Fred and August of New Holstein, and Arthur on the homestead; one daughter, Martha at home; one sister, Mrs. John Boeldt (clipping ends) - July 1926

MARY JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Mary Jochmann, 72, Dies Tuesday The death of Mrs. Mary Jochmann, nee Deicher, occurred Tuesday evening at 8:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Schmidt here. Mrs. Jochmann had reached the age of 72 years. Death was attributed to infection of a goitre. The deceased was born April 29, 1845, in the town of Rhine, where she lived with her family until the time of her marriage on January 21, 1877, when she moved with her husband to a farm in Schleswig. Here the couple lived until 1917, when Mr. and Mrs. Jochmann came here to live. Her husband died one year ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Schmidt; four sons, Merman of Kiel; and Fred, August, and Arthur, of New Holstein; four brothers, Adam, Phillip, Dr. Henry, and Herman Deicher, of Plymouth; three sisters, Mrs. John Luth and Mrs. Arthur Pfiel of Glenbeulah, and Mrs. Albert Smith of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held from the home Friday at 1:30, and from the Reformed church at 2 o’clock, with interment in the Kiel cemetery. JOHANNA JOHNSON cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 02 Apr. 1903: Mrs. Johanna Johnson, who had lived in our city for the last 37 yrs., died Thurs. of old age debility. The deceased was born 01 Aug. 1809 in Norway and came to Manitowoc in 1866. Her husband and children preceded her in death and for the past many years she has been living here with grandchildren. The burial was held Saturday.

CAPTAIN JOHN JOHNSON cemetery #44 (sent in by researcher/see contributors page) LAST VOYAGE COMPLETED BY CAPT. JOHNSON Captain John Johnson, a resident of Manitowc for the greater part of his life, passed away this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Ladwig, 711 Sycamore Street, Milwaukee. Captain Johnson who was 80 years of age, was born in Norway. He was the owner of a schooner which sailed out of this port. He used to reside on North Fourth Street, but left Manitowoc five years ago and since that time had made his home in Milwaukee. Mrs. Johnson has been dead for many years. Surviving relatives are his daughter with whom he had made his home and four sons, Frank of Manitowoc, Joseph of Milwaukee, John of Milwaukee, Edward of Kewaunee and a sister, Miss Maggie Johnson of Milwaukee. The body will arrive in Manitowoc Monday morning and the funeral services will be held at Evergreen chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. E. J. Symons of St. Paul's M. E. church officiating. WINFORD H. JOHNSON cemetery #82 W. H. Johnson Passes Away Unexpectedly Winford H. Johnson, aged 46, a former Kiel businessman, and a veteran of World War I; and active in political and public life of northeastern Wisconsin for years, passed away Friday night at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan. Mr. Johnson had submitted to an operation for appendicitis nine days ago. Mr. Johnson served on the City Council, and was one of Kiel’s representatives on the County Board, in the late thirties, and for a short time was co—editor of the The County Record. The deceased was born in Green Bay in 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson. He enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard in May, 1917 and served for a year overseas as an officer in the 32nd division. He was assigned to the 127th—l28th Infantry, 64th Brigade Headquarters. In 1924 he married Miss Hildegard Becker. Locating in Kiel he served for a number of years as bookkeeper and accountant for the Kiel Wooden Ware Company and in 1938 became a partner with Bradford A. Cox in publication of the Tri-County Record. After two years he disposed of his interest in the paper to Mr. Cox and since last April has been employed at the Hart-Carter Company at New Holstein. For years he was active in Republican party circles in north- eastern Wisconsin. He was a candidate for the Republican nomin- ation for the assembly in the second district of Manitowoc county in 1938. In 1935 when Kiel launched a program for a paved route from the county seat, Mr. Johnson became a candidate for supervisor and was elected for a 2-year term. He did not run again at the end of his term. He was active for many years in the Kiel Chamber of Commerce and served on numerous community committees. His affiliations included membership in the Kiel lodge, F. & A, M. No. 336, and the Chilton Chapter, R. A. M. No. 94, and the Kasper Post No. 99, American Legion of Kiel. Mr. Johnson is survived by his widow; three daughters, Barbara, Alice and Nancy, and a son, Allen, all at home; three brothers, Wa11ace H. of Kiel, Wilbur W. of Sheboygan, and Private Edward Johnson of Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, and a sister, Miss Mae Johnson of Green Bay. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. E. Delware of Waukesha officiating. The Legion of Kasper Post No. 99 assisted in the services. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Pall-bearers were Martin Lukesh, Edward Reineck, Edgar Paulsen, Earl Lehner, Arthur Graef, and George Dexheimer, members of the American Legion. The last rites were largely attended by local people and many from farther away. 1942

JOHN M. JOHNSRUD cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 01 Nov. 1906: Consumption claimed the life of John Johnsrud on Wednesday last week. He is survived by a widow and children, as well as his parents and several sisters. The deceased, a cabinet-maker, was a Manitowoc resident, but for the past several weeks has been in the residence of Jacob Williams, near Manitowoc Rapids, where he hoped that the change of location would bring some relief from his illness. The funeral was held Saturday from the local Norwegian St. Paul's church

She was born July 7, 1951, in Manitowoc, daughter of Delores Ann (Krueger) Polifka and the late Matthew Polifka Jr. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1970. Linda was employed with Manitowoc Ice for 28 years. She was a member of Local Union 516 Machinist and AeroSpace. PETER JOHNSTON cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 06 Oct. 1904: Death on Mon. of former local resident Peter Johnston in Beaver Island, Michigan, where he was visiting his son who lives there. Mr. Johnston was born in 1831 in Scotland and came to Manitowoc in 1855 where he undertook several businesses. He was the first mayor of the City of Manitowoc to which he was elected in 1870, and also served several other offices. He is survived by 7 children and 2 stepchildren. REGINA (HODGES) JOHNSTON cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 03 July 1902: Death Thurs. last week in Milwaukee, where she was visiting, of Mrs. Peter Johnston following a short illness with heart neuralgia (Herzneuralgie). The deceased, who came to Manitowoc in 1855 and has lived here ever since, reached the age of 68. Her body was brought here and buried Saturday. (Note: First marriage to James A. Hodges)

FRANZ JOHST cemetery #83 On Friday afternoon about 2:00 PM, Mr. Franz Johst, a long time resident of Kiel, died at his home from a heart attack after an eight year long illness at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 12 days. The deceased was born on July 17, 1844 in Oppenheim, near Mainz, Hessen-Darmstad, Germany and came to America in 1867 where he first settled in the Town of Rhine. Two years later he went to Chicago, where he married Catharine Kramer. Eleven years later the family returned to the Town of Rhine, and for the past 16 years they have resided in Kiel, where Mr. Johst worked in the table factory, until last year when his health and age made it necessary for him to retire. The marriage was blessed with nine children, of which three and his wife survive him, namely, John and Frank Johst of Kiel, and Mrs. Anton Frenzel who lives in Washington. The burial took place on Tuesday morning at the Catholic Cemetery after a service in the church officiated by Father Kolbe.

JOHN JOHST cemetery #83 Funeral services for John Johst, 80, were held Tuesday morning from S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Kheil in charge. He died at his farm home Friday afternoon. He was born in Chicago December 22, 1873 and came to this community when he was seven years of age. September 26, 1905, he married Susan LaCroix at the S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic church, and they settled here. He was employed at the Kiel Furniture company for 27 years. In 1932 they purchased their farm home north of Kiel where he died. He was a member of the S. S. Peter and Paul church. Survivors include his wife and two sons, Frank and Walter, both at home. He has one sister, Mrs. Catherine Franzel of Montana. There is one grandchild. 1954

KATHARINA JOHST cemetery #83 CALLED BY DEATH. Mrs. Catherina Johst, widow of the late Franz Johst, passed away Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the home of her son John. The deceased, nee Kraemer, had been ill with dropsy of the heart for a long time, but death was due to a stroke which she suffered a short time before her demise. Mrs. Johst was a native of Trier, Germany where she was born August 9, 1842. She came to America in 1869, locating in Chicago, where she was married to Franz Johst in 1870. The family came to Sheboygan in 1880, and settled in Kiel in 1899, where Mrs. Johst had since resided. Her husband died six years ago. 9 children were born in the family, of whom six have preceded their parents in death. The surviving children are John Johst in Kiel, Frank Joseph in Sheboygan and Mrs. Anton Frenzel in Montana. She also 1eaves five grandchildren. The funeral took place Wednesday forenoon, with services in St. Peter and Paul’s church, Rev. M. Rumpel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. - 1921

SUSANNA JOHST Mrs. John Johst, 81, of R. 2, Kiel, died Monday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital where she had been a patient for the past five days. The former Susan LaCroix was born Jan. 31, 1881, at St. Anna, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth LaCroix. She attended district schools at St. Anna and later worked in Milwaukee for many years. On Sept. 26, 1905, she married John Johst at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. They lived in Kiel until 1932 when they moved to their present home. Mr. Johst, a painter, preceded her in death in 1954. She was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and of the Christian Mothers Society of the parish. Surviving are two sons, Frank and Walter, both of R. 2 Kiel; one grandchild; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Kiel and Edward of Staten Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Schram, St. Nazianz, and Mrs. Ida Schram, Two Rivers. Two sisters also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, following brief rites at 9 o’clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

WALTER H. JOHST cemetery #83 Walter H. Johst, 54, of Rt. 2, Kiel, Town of Schleswig farmer, died Saturday night at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. He had been ill nine months. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. George Kiefer will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Johst was born July 31, 1908, at Kiel, son of the late John and Susan LaCroix Johst. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Parochial School and Kiel High School. He had been employed by Hingiss Inc., and A. A. Laun Furniture Co., Kiel, until 1932 when he and a brother, Frank, operated the farm in Schleswig. He was a member of Holy Name Society of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Surviving is the brother, Frank, of Rt. 2 Kiel. - 1963

ALFRED E. JONAS cemetery #33 Alfred E. Jonas, age 84, a resident of St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc, formerly of Two Rivers, went home with our Lord early Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Alfred was born Sept. 27, 1919 in the town of Two Creeks, a son of the late Emil and Martha (Schmidt) Jonas, and attended the Twin Elder School. He was confirmed on Aug. 21, 1932 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Two Creeks. Alfred worked on the family farm in Two Creeks until moving to Two Rivers in 1945, and began working for Hamiltons Industries. He was employed with Hamilton’s for nearly 40 years, retiring on Sept. 1, 1981. Mr. Jonas married Edith Anklam on May 2, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death November 28, 1997. Alfred was a longtime, faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and former choir member; he was also a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center. He enjoyed time spent with family, the deer hunting camp, and also enjoyed playing cards, dartball, and bowling. (Survivors omitted for privacy) In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Glen Anklam, and his brother, Arnold Jonas. The Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate with burial in Knollwood Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Jonas was born Feb. 24, 1921, in the Town of Two Creeks, son of the late Emil and Martha Schmidt Jonas. EDITH H. (ANKLAM) JONAS cemetery #33 Edith H. (Anklam) Jonas, age 88, of Two Rivers, died Friday morning, November 28, 1997, at the Hamilton Memorial Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 1997, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth. She was born July 3, 1909, at Pine Grove, Wis., daughter of the late Herman and Lena Barth Pahnke. She attended schools in Pine Grove. On August 22, 1931, she married George Anklam at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1961. On May 2, 1964, she married Alfred Jonas at St. John’s Church, Two Rivers. Edith was employed for many years at Stangel’s Super Valu Store. She was a member of St. John’s Ladies Society, St. John’s Quilters, Two Rivers Senior Citizens, and was an avid dartball player. She also enjoyed playing golf, hunting and cooking many meals for the hunting group. Edna was born February 27, 1919, in Two Creeks, daughter of the Late Arthur and Edith Geerdts Zierzow. She graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers, with the class of 1936, and also attended the Manitowoc Vocational School. She married Harry Jonas, on June 23, 1938, in Two Creeks. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1962. Edna was the Deputy Register of Deeds, for Manitowoc County for many years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church and the Manitowoc Garden Club. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law; four grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law; one sister-in-law; a dear special friend; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Mrs. Marie Jonas, sister-in-law to Edna, was omitted from this obituary.

Jonas, 56, died at his home at 1307 Hawthorne ave., early yesterday afternoon shortly after suffering a heart attack. Funeral serves will be held at Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and at the St. John's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. G. Haase officiating. Interment will be in Forest View cemetery. The body will be in state at the funeral home 7 o'clock tonight until the time of the service. Mr. Jonas was born on the Two Creeks farm of his parents, Fred and Wilhelmina Sporleder Jonas, on July 21, 1893. He spent his early life on the homestead farm and was married to the former Martha Schmidt of Two Creeks in 1918. They moved to a farm in Two Creeks and lived there until five years ago when the family moved to Two Rivers. Here Mr. Jonas was employed by the Schroeder mill until his death yesterday. Survivors include his wife, two sons, both at home; four brothers, William, of Fox Lake, Wis., Fred residing in Illinois, Henry of Wausau, and Walter of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Tess, of Sturgeon Bay, and Mrs. Winton Raper of Chicago.

Jonas, 84, of Rt. 1, Mishicot, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Monday morning at the home of a son, Harry, with whom he had made his home since 1943. He had been in failing health for about a year. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot, the Rev. David Worgull officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Jonas was born Oct. 2, 1875, at Kellogg, Jasper County, Iowa, a son of the late Fred and Wilhelmina Sporletter Jonas. FRIEDRICH JONAS cemetery #67 From Der Nord Westen, 15 July 1886: Death of 70-year old Fritz Jonas on 06 July in Mishicott. He was an early settler coming to Mishicott in 1853 where he established a farm. He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter. Burial took place last Thursday and Mr. Florian Ott gave the burial sermon.

The deceased was born 01 December 1817 in Kletzien, Pomerania, came to America in 1881 and since 1899 has been living with his daughter Mrs. August Kampty in Kiel. She was a long time member of Our Savior Ev. Lutheran Church. Marie volunteered her services to many people in need. MARTHA JONAS cemetery #89C Manitowoc Herald Times Oct. 17, 1990 Martha Jonas of Two Rivers died early Tuesday morning after a courageous and non-complaining bout with cancer. She was born April 11, 1913 in Two Rivers, dauther of the late William and Meta Wenholz Blum. She attended St. John Parochial School. On March 10, 1934 she married Emmath Jonas in Waukegan, Illinois. He preceded her in death August 15, 1983. Mrs. Jonas did housekeeping work and she wanted to remember all the children she babysat for during her life. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, a brother, and five sisters, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and two daughters. Martha was a very special person who was much loved by everyone whose life she touched.

Jonas, age 58 of Two Rivers, entered eternal peace early Sunday morning, July 29, 2001 at the Hamilton Memorial Home, surrounded by his family, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. David Scherbarth, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Paul was born August 28, 1942 in Mishicot, WI, son of the late Emmath & Martha Blum Jonas. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Two Rivers, and Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1961. On October 8, 1970 he was married to Linda Copley. For a number of years, Paul operated the Golden Cage, and the Loading Zone in Two Rivers. He was later employed with Manitowoc Disposal for many years, followed by Superior Services of Sheboygan. He was a longtime, faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Paul was an avid Badger Fan, a Mendota Club Member, and a member of the Big Red Club. He enjoyed many years of attending Badger Games, and camping with family & friends at Cedar Valley Camp Ground. He served in the United States Army. On April 29, 1961, he married the former Judith R. Levanetz at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Windy was employed with Schwartz Manufacturing Company for 33 years and was recently retired. He was also a part-time school bus driver for a number of years. He was a member of the Big Red Club, an avid Badger fan, and served as chairman of the Greater Midwest Annual Youth Wrestling Tournament. ANN JONES #44 Manitowoc Tribune Vol. 18 No. 18, Thursday August 17, 1871, Page 4 Column 7 Jones. -- In the village of Neshoto August 8th, Mrs. Anna, wife of J.O. Jones, aged 41 years. The deceased was born in North Wales and had only been in this country about three months when she was attacked with inflamation of the heart; which in a short time terminated her earthly existence; she sank away in peaceful slumber about noon of the 8th inst. She leaves behind a husband and son who deeply mourn her loss, but who no doubt realize that their loss is her gain; for when no doubt was a true lover of Christ and christian institutions. Her friends and countrymen testified very plainly by their acts of devotion and kindness since she came here, of a heart-felt love and esteem for the departed. FRANKLIN P. JONES cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 04 July 1901: A stroke Fri. took the life of local resident Frank P. Jones. as he was traveling on business near Unity, Wis. Mr. Jones was born in Watertown but had lived here a long time. The 46-yr. old man was Vice President of W.G. Jones Lumber Co. He is survived by his widow (daughter of the late banker T.C. Shove) and 2 sons. The funeral took place Sun. in the local city cemetery.

It appears that I may have another family member that could be removed from cemetery X. The Mary Ann Jones that is listed as wife of John Jones should be the one of the unknown Jones buried 06/04/1862 in Evergreen #44. The LDS shows her as being born as Mary Ann Merrifield on July 18, 1813 and dieing on June 1, 1862 in Manitowoc, wife of John Jones. The other burial listed as unknown may be her husband John Jones but I cannot confirm this at this time.

JULIUS JORGENSEN cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 25 Feb. 1909: An odd death which occurred in Two Rivers was reported to us. A man named Julius Jorgenson, of Norwegian descent, had lodged about two weeks in Wisconsin House. The man was sickly and unemployed. Some years ago he had broken his leg and it never healed properly, causing difficulty for Jorgenson. For several years he worked with farmer Matt. Kummes until no longer able. He then came into the city and worked a few weeks as a stableman at Washington House and did odd jobs for years at Wisconsin House. He had managed to put a little money aside, and a few days ago gave the proprietor of Wisconsin House a check for $250.00 and asked him to use it for Jorgenson’s funeral in case he should die. Friday morning Jorgenson did not come to breakfast and it was thought he didn’t feel well. When he didn’t show up for lunch Mr. Reinert, the proprietor, became concerned and went to Jorgenson’s room only to find him dead in bed. A doctor was called to establish that the man had died a natural death about midnight. Mr. Reinert has fulfilled the man’s last wishes and arranged for the funeral.

KATHARINE (BERTLER) JORSCH cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 17 Nov. 1887: Death of Mrs. Katharine Jorsch on Thurs., here in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of Mr. A. Bertler "Her husband, once a fine workman, gave himself over to drink and in his drunkenness not only neglected to feed his family, but abused them." The deceased left nine children of which the eldest is 17 and the youngest is still very small. (Note: She is buried with the Bertler family)

ROSALIE JORSCH cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 22 Feb. 1900: Death Tues. evening about 5 p.m. of Mrs. Theodor Jorsch here of a stroke. The deceased was feeling perfectly well at noon but shortly afterward felt infirm, went to bed, called a doctor about 3 o’clock but at that point no one realized that a stroke would cause her death at 5 p.m. Mrs. Jorsch was born 02 Sep. 1839 in Germany and came to America in 1863. She married Mr. Jorsch in Logansport, Indiana, with whom she later came to Manitowoc. In addition to her grieving husband she is survived by 5 children. THEODORE JORSCH cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 21 Apr. 1904: Another of our county's pioneers is gone. Theodor Jorsch, one of the best known residents of our city, died Mon. morning of Bright's disease. He was ill for several years, but has only been bedridden for the last 10 days. Theodor Jorsch was born 1839 in Luxemburg, thus reaching the age of 65. When he was six his parents came to America and settled in Town Newton, then a wilderness. Here the boy enjoyed all the joys and pressures of pioneer life. When he was older and strong enough he learned wagon making, then carpentry and helped the farmers in Town Newton and the adjoining towns to build their homes. At the outbreak of the Civil War he joined the 14th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and served 2 yrs. in Company G until he was severely wounded in the hip during the battle of Pittsburg Landing. When healed, he had to be mustered out. Upon returning here he got into port construction and worked on the harbors of Manitowoc, Chicago, Ashland, etc., until he had to give up his work because of kidney disease. Mr. Jorsch was twice married. His first was Rosalie Liebert whom he married in 1865 and who died in 1900, leaving him with 5 children, namely, Mrs. J.C. Rehm in Ashland, Mrs. Frank Heffermann here, Oscar in South Chicago, Theodor in Chicago, and Arthur in Alabama. He later married the widow Mrs. Krumheuer, who survives him. His heavily attended funeral was conducted yesterday under the direction of the local Post of the G.A.R., and the German Odd Fellows Lodge, to both of which he belonged. ********* [cause: Brights disease]

Jost, prominent Cleveland, Wis., business man who passed away at a Manitowoc hospital on Sunday morning, will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Nennig Funeral home in St. Wendel and at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Wendel Catholic church. Mr. Jost was a well known electrician and plumber in the Cleveland locality since he had been in his own place of business since 1922. His work also extended to Manitowoc and other surrounding communities. He was an active leader of the community, belonging to several organizations. His unexpected death followed a short illness. He was born in Kiel on January 26, 1910, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer. He was employed for the last eight years by the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. and previous to that by the Kiel Wooden Ware Co. He was also a member of the Kiel fire department. Survivors are: his father; five sisters, Mrs. Norma Stevens of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Elsie Arndt, Mrs. Roma Hagenow, Mrs. Lorraine Schreiber and Miss Meta Jugenheimer, all of Kiel; and two brothers, Oscar of the town of Rhine and Harvey of California. His mother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel. The Rev. E. J. HENRY JUGENHEIMER cemetery #84 Henry Jugenheimer, 86, who had lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jugenheimer, R. 2, Kiel, died late Saturday evening. Born March 6, 1875, in the Town of Rhine, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary Reichart Jugenheimer, received his education in the district school, and worked as a carpenter most of his life. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Eleanora) Schaller of Kiel; five sons, Lester of rural Kiel, Melroy of Los Angeles, Allan and Donald of Sheboygan, Aaron of Fond du Lac; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. HILTON JUGENHEIMER cemetery #84 Relatives and friends were shocked Sunday, when they learned of the death of Hilton Jugenheimer, aged 25 years, who passed away that morning at 10 a.m. Mr. Jugenheimer, who had been ill for about a year, was confined to Rocky Knoll sanitarium near Plymouth. The deceased was born in this city on January 13, 1912, the son of the late John and Katherine Jugenheimer. He was preceded in death by his mother February 8, 1914, his father February 5, 1936, and a sister and brother in infancy. He attended the Kiel public and high schools, and after leaving his studies was employed at the Kiel Furniture Company plant for many years prior to his illness, and for about nine months he was employed by the Kiel Table Company at North Tonawanda, New York, where he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Eldred P. Voland. Only immediate survivors are his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rehm and son. Mr. Jugenheimer was a member of the Kiel Redmen and the volunteer Kiel Fire Department, both organizations attending the funeral in a body. Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 p.m. services will be held at the First Presbyterian church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church officiating. Interment was made in the Rockville cemetery. - May 6, 1937

JACOB JUGENHEIMER cemetery #82 Jacob Jugenheimer, 85, formerly of 632 St. Paul St., Kiel, died Monday night at a Manitowoc hospital following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Allen L. Bowe will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Jugenheimer was born March 23, 1868, in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan County, and attended rural schools in the township. Following his marriage March 28, 1895, to Mary Diefenthaler the couple moved to Kiel. He was employed for 33 years at the plant now known as the A. A. Laun Furniture Company. Up until 15 years ago Mr. Jugenheimer was an active member of the Kiel Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Arndt, Mrs. Loraine Schreiber, Mrs. Arno Hagenow and Miss Meta Jugenheimer of Kiel, and Mrs. Norma Stevens of Milwaukee; two sons, Oscar of Elkhart Lake and Harvey of Fontana, Calif; a brother, Henry of Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Borndfeld of Kiel; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife died in 1942. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of services.

MARY JUGENHEIMER cemetery #84 Mrs. Jugenheimer Answers Summons Mrs. Peter Jugenheimer, a resident of this city for the past fourteen years, passed away on Tuesday morning at her home. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m., at the residence, followed by rites at the Refomed church. Rev. O. Saewert will be in charge. Mrs. Jugenheimer, nee Mary Reichert, was born in Guntesblum Hessendarmstedt, Germany, on March 28, 1847. She was two years old when she came to this country with her parents, who settled in the town of Rhine. She was united in marriage to Mr. Jugenheimer on April 31, 1867. He preceded her in death twelve years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Menne, a son-in-law and daughter, have been living with her for the past two years. The following children survive her: Jacob, John, Henry, Peter and Philip, all of this city; Mrs. Jos. Menne and Mrs. L. O. Rehm of Kiel, and Mrs. Julius Bornefeld of Plymouth. MARY JUGENHEIMER cemetery #82 Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, the former Mary Diefenthaler, of 632 St. Paul street passed away at the age of 66 at her home at 8:45 p.m. Monday following a long illness. She was born on November 19, 1887(sic), in the town of Rhine as the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Weitzel) Diefenthaler. On March 28, 1896, she was married to Jacob Jugenheimer and since that time the couple have made their permanent home here. Mrs. Jugenheimer is survived by her husband and nine children, Mrs. Fred (Elsie) Arndt of Kiel, Mrs. Alfred (Lydia) Luedke of Sheboygan, Mrs. Milfred (Norma) Stevens of Milwaukee, Mrs. Arno (Roma) Hagenow of Kiel, Mrs. Lorraine Schreiber and Miss Meta Jugenheimer at home, Harvey of Sheboygan, Oscar of Kiel and Arthur at home. One daughter preceded her in death in infanacy. Other survivors are eight grandchildren, and one brother, William Diefenthaler of New Holstein. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral services for the deceased will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home on Thursday at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery on the family lot. The Rev. PETER JUGENHEIMER cemetery #84 Rites Held Tuesday for Peter Jugenheimer Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home for Peter Jugenheimer, 74, who died at the Manitowoc Holy Family hospital Saturday. He had been a patient at the hospital for a week. The services were in charge of the Rev. E. L. Worthman and burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Mr. Jugenheimer was born in the town of Rhine March 9, 1878. After his school days he worked as a carpenter for some years, was a partner in a shoe business here and then worked at the Commercial hotel and at Cedar Creek tavern for many years. Mr. Jugenheimer never married. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and Kiel Red Men lodges. Surviving are a sister Mrs. Catherine Bornefeld, and two brothers, Jacob and Henry of Kiel. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

The deceased, the daughter of the late John Feldmann and Julia Uhl, was born in the town of Rhine on July 24, 1891, and May 18, 1915 she was united in marriage with Philip Jugenheimer. Survivors are her husband, one daughter, Phyllis, and a sister, Mrs. Ernst (Linda) Bartelt of Milwaukee. Funeral services were held on Saturday, with services conducted by the Rev. E. H. Delware at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. The Royal Neighbors, of which the deceased was a member, attended the last rites in a body. JACOB JUNG cemetery #82 JACOB H. JUNG AWAY AFTER AN ILLNESS Jacob Henry Jung, aged 65, died Friday evening at his farm home just west of this city, following an illness of four months’ duration. The deceased was born in the town of Russell on May 21, 1880, son of Jacob and Mary Becker-Jung. He was united in holy wedlock with Miss Mary Spindler of Stratford on May 1, 1913, and following their marriage the couple moved to their present farm home where they have since resided. ELEANORE K. JUNK cemetery #83 Eleanore K. Junk Dies at Manitowoc Miss Eleanore Kathryn Junk passed away at the Holy Family hospital in Manitowoc, where she had been ill for the past ten days. She is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Junk of this city. The deceased was born in the city of Kiel, April 23, 1906, and attended the Sts. Peter and Paul Parochial school here. For several years she attended school at New Holstein, where she lived with her parents, and in June, 1925, she graduated from the Kiel high school. In the fall of the same year she entered the Holy Family hospital at Manitowoc as a student nurse, from which institution she graduated with high honors. Besides her parents, she is survived by one sister, Miss Esther. Funeral services were to be held on Thursday morning at 8 o'clock from the Sts. Peter and Paul church, with the Rev. Fr. A. ELIZABETH JUNK cemetery #84 Mrs. Elizabeth Junk Dies After Long Illness Mrs. Elizabeth Junk, aged 80, a life-long resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away last Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The deceased was born Feb. 2, 1866, near Kiel, the daughter of John and Katherine Barth. On March 11, 1905 she was united in marriage with Peter Junk, and he preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1922. The couple made their home on a farm in the township, one and one-half miles north of this city. Mrs. Junk spent her entire life on the homestead farm with the exception of two years, during which time she was confined at various hospitals, the last year at a private convalescant home. One son was born of this union, and he died in infancy. Two sisters and six brothers also preceded her in death. Survivors are six nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. R. E. Dreger officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. - 1946

JOHN JUNK cemetery #83 John Junk, 69 This community was shocked early Tuesday morning when the inhabitants learned of the sudden death of John Junk, aged 69, of this city. Mr. Junk had gone to the Meiselwitz Funeral Homee to view the body of his nephew, Hubert Mahloch, when he was suddenly stricken by a heart attack. The Holy Name Society of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church was reciting the rosary for Mr. Mahloch at the time. Mr. Junk was seated between his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reichardt, when he was stricken. The deceased, the son of John and Mary Stephany Junk, was born in the town of Meeme December 31, 1872. He attended the Holy Trinity parochial school at School Hill, and after completing his education became a carpenter. He was employed from 1901 to 1918 by the Kiel Mfg. Company, from 1918 to 1922 by the Lauson Mfg. Co. at New Holstein, and since that time by the A. A. Laun Furniture Company of this city, where he served as foreman of the machine department. On July 11, 1905, Mr. Junk was married to Katherine Mahloch of this city, who survives with the daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Esther) Reichardt; one grandchild; his mother, Mrs. Katherine Junk, aged 84, of Racine, and one sister, Mrs. Robert Walshof Racine. Two daughters have preceded him in death. Mr. Junk was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and a parishoner of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church. Funeral services were conducted this Thursday morning at 9:30 a. m. from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, with services at 10 o’clock at the church. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Junk, the former Katherine Mahloch, was born May 17, 1883, in Rockville, a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Lucas Mahloch. She attended district schools and was married July 11, 1905, to John Junk at Kiel. The couple resided in Kiel, where Mr. Junk was a carpenter for 14 years and later an employee of the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1942. Mrs. Junk was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Christian Mother’s Society of the church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Esther) Reichert, Kiel; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Jacobi, Greenwood. Two daughters preceded her in death.

PETER JUNK cemetery #21 November 15, 1923 ST. NAZIANZ Peter Junk died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jos. Casper at Cleveland on Monday, after about a year's illness. He was born in Prussia, Germany, on October 4, 1845, and came to this country in 1866, settling in Centerville. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Emilie Keune. Their union was blessed with seven children of whom three are living, namely: Mrs. Jos. Casper of Cleveland, Frank Junk of Milwaukee and Wm. of Rib Lake. After living in Centerville for about ten years the family moved onto a farm one mile west of St. Nazianz, where they resided until about 17 years ago. Since that time Mr. Junk had been staying with his daughter at Cleveland. About a year ago he suffered a stroke and from that time on was confined to his bed. The funeral was held at St. Nazianz (this) Thursday morning. Rev. Deibele officiated.

PETER JUNK cemetery #84 Called By Death. Peter Junk, a well-known resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at his home Tuesday evening. Heart trouble, with which he had been ailing for some time, was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Junk was born in Freudenburg, Rhine Province, Germany, July 19, 1867(sic); he immigrated to America in 1892 with his sister, coming to Sheboygan. In 1903 he was married to Elizabeth Barth, and the couple settled on a farm near the eastern limits of Kiel, where they have since resided. One child was born to them, which died in infancy. He is survived by his widow and one sister, Mrs. Fox of Sheboygan. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon, Mr. W. H. Luehr of Manitowoc officiating at the last rites. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Kay Richter will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in Pioneer Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Virginia was born July 18, 1917 in Peru, Ind., a daughter of the late Ora and Mary Helen (Snyder) Collier. In September 1937, she married George Jurgens in Peru, Ind. He preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1980. Virginia worked in the offices of Kahlenberg Bros. Co. for a number of years and later as a secretary for Hamilton Industries, until her retirement. She enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles. (Survivors omitted for privacy) In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Friends may call at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, after 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation this evening. JIRI JUST cemetery #29 From Der Nord Westen, 18 June 1903: Death Sat. in Cooperstown of 82-yr. old Wenzel Justa, one of the oldest settlers of that town, of old age debility. The deceased came to Cooperstown from Bohemia more than 50 yrs. ago and has lived there ever since. He is survived by several children. The burial took place Mon. in the cemetery at Melnik.

EDWARD JUUL cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 26 Jan. 1905: A stroke took the life Thurs. last week of Edward Juul, well-known resident of our city. The deceased, who was born 1845 in Norway, came to America as a young man and settled in Manitowoc. In the last part of the war he served in Company G in the 7th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. For many years he served as a clerk in the Schuette Bros. store until a few years ago when he opened a sweet shop, which he had to give up recently. He leaves a widow and 8 children. His funeral was held Sun. afternoon under the direction of the local Post of the G.A.R. and of the Sons of Hermann Lodge, to both of which he belonged. ******** [bur. 01-19-1905/cause: apoplexy]
