ADOLPH HENSCHEL (d. 1925) cemetery #82 Funeral services for the late Adolph Henschel of Hinzeville were held at the Reformed church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of Rev. Rech. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Henschel was born in Saxony, Germany, March 8, 1844. At the age of two years he came to America with his parents and settled in Town 9. He was married to Amalia Mauer of Glenbeulah in 1866. The couple lived on a farm in Town Russell up to 19 years ago, when they came to Hinzeville. Their union was blessed with seven children, six of whom are living, namely; Louis of Kiel, Conrad of Greenbush, George of Sturgeon Bay, Edmund on the homestead in Russell, Mrs. Brickbauer of Stockbridge and Mrs. Ph. Sinz of Kiel. His wife also survives him. Mr. Henschel had been ill for the last five years, and death overtook him on Thursday morning at the advanced age of 81 years. ADOLPH HENSCHEL (d. 1928) cemetery #82 CALLED BY DEATH Adolph Henschel, a resident of Kiel for the past thirty-eight years, passed away at his home Tuesday evening at 7:20 o'clock, the victim of several paralytic strokes ten days ago, from which he never recovered. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine, January 13, 1856, and on March 7, 1877 he was united in marriage to Katie Buchmann, the couple moving to Kiel in 1890. For several years Mr. Henschel was in the livery business, and also served as rural mail carrier for some time, later going into the soda water business, through which be became well-known. The business greatly increased during the twenty-four years Mr. Henschel was at the head of the concern. He retired two years ago, at which time the business was sold to William Kissinger. Mr. and Mrs. Henschel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. Surviving Mr. Henschel are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Pasch of Milwaukee, and Mrs. C. L. Davenport of this city; three sons, Edward, John, and William, all of Kiel; one sister, Mrs. Adam Buchmann of the town of Russell; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He lived to a good old age and those who knew him testify that his life was well spent, and his many virtues will be held in kind remembrance by old neighbors, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home, and at 2 o'clock at the Reformed church, the Rev. Otto Saewert officiating. Interment will be in the Kiel cemetery. 4-12-1928


ALBERT HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Albert J. Henschel, 65, of R. 2, Elkhart Lake, died Wednesday while en route to Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born Jan. 23, 1901, in the Town of Rhine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Henschel, and was married Nov. 29, 1922, to Wilhelmina Kraemer of the Town of Rhine. They operated a farm in the Town of Russell. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, a son, four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Bert Berner, Wauwatosa. ALVINA B. HENSCHEL cemetery #56 Mrs. Charles E. Henschel, 73, a resident of the Town of Meeme, died Monday at the Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Her maiden name was Alvina Brandt. She was born In Menomonee, Mich., June 3, 1880. She was the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Rieck) Brandt. She was baptized in 1880 in Menomonee and confirmed in town of Centerville in 1901. Her marriage to Mr. Henschel took place April 20, 1899, in Marinette. For eight years they lived on a farm in the town of Centerville and the past 48 years on their present farm, although they retired several years ago. They observed their golden anniversary in 1949. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of Bethel Ev and Reformed Church, town of Herman. The survivors include her husband; four sons, Albert and Edwin, Kiel; Melvin, town of Herman; Elmer, Manitowoc; four daughters, Mrs. Otto (Evelyn) Ebeling, town of Herman; Mrs. Arnold (Myrtle) Kraemer, Osman; Mrs. Ewald (Hilda) Stock, Newton; and Mrs. Hugo (Irene) Grosskopf, town of Herman; 24 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five brothers, Arthur, Frank and Chester, of Faithhorn, Mich.; Melvin of Florence; and Walter of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Vern King of Faithhorn; and Mrs. Elva Turner, Indianapolis. Two daughters preceded her in death, Mrs. Violet Reichert; and Mrs. Elva Klemme; two brothers and one sister. Services will be held at the Bethel Ev. and Reformed Church, Town of Herman. The Rev. W. ANNIE HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Rites Held Saturday For Mrs. Anna Henschel Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Henschel, 77, were held from St. Peter's United Church of Christ Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating. Mrs. Henschel died at her home Wednesday evening. Mrs. Henschel was born February 17, 1880, daughter of the late Ernst and Mary Stange Voland. November 28, 1899, she was married to Charles Henschel of the town of Russell. The couple moved to Kiel, where Mr. Henschel was employed at the Kiel Furniture Co. Mrs. Henschel was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical church and the church Frauenverein. Survivors include two sons, Alvin and Gilbert, Kiel: a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Vorpahl, Kiel; three sisters, Mrs. George Schuler, Plymouth, and Mrs. William Schnur and Mrs. C. T. Schroeder, Kiel; eight grand- children and 11 great-grandchildren. - March 5, 1959

CHARLES E. HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Charles E. Henschel, aged 59, well-known resident of this city, passed away at the Plymouth hospital on Saturday evening at 10 o'clock, after being a patient there since February 21st, and having undergone a serious operation from which he never recovered. Mr. Henschel, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Henschel, Sr., was born on a farm in the town of Russell on June 5, 1873. He was married to Miss Annie Voland of Kiel on November 28th, 1899, locating here, where Mr. Henschel was employed at the Kiel Furniture factory for eighteen years. In 1920 the Henschel family moved onto a farm near Crystal Lake, residing on the same for three years, when they again returned to Kiel. The deceased was also employed for many years at the Rudolph Greve Hardware Co. and at the Stoelting Bros. Co. plant. Four children were born to the couple, of whom one daughter, Leona, died at the age of one year. Survivors are: His wife and three children, as follows: Mrs. Arthur Vorphal of near here, Alwin at home, and Gilbert of this city; four grandchildren; five brothers - Louis Henschel of New Holstein, Philip Henschel of Elkhart Lake, George and Jacob Henschel of this city, and Adam Henschel of Milwaukee, and three sisters - Mrs. Ida Mathes and Mrs. John Rochlus of this city, and Mrs. Jacob Rochlus of Milwaukee. The body was taken to the family residence Monday afternoon at three o'clock, where funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, followed by services at the St. Peter Reformed church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. E. L. Worthman officiated, and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery in the family lot. Nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers: Eldred P. Voland, Harold Voland, Earl Voland, Anthony Rochlus, Willard Schnurr, and Howard Schueler. The Senior Choir rendered the following songs at the church: "Naeher mein Gott zu Dir," " Christus der ist mein Leben," and "Auf wieder sehen." - 1933


DORA HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Mrs. Edward Henschel Mrs. Edward Henschel, 69, of 412 6th St., Kiel, died early Sunday morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital after being in ill health for several weeks. Nee Dora Prueter, she was born May 1, 1885, in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Herman and Mary Stoeffler Prueter. She married Edward Henschel of Kiel on Nov. 20, 1906, in Town Schleswig. The couple resided in Kiel since their marriage. Mr. Henschel is a retired rural mail carrier. Mrs. Henschel was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church at Kiel, the Woman’s Guild of the church, the Ladies’ auxiliary of the Rural Mail Carriers Association, a charter member of the Needlecraft Club of Kiel, and a member of the Manitowoc County Homemakers Club. Survivors are her husband; two sisters, Mrs. Otto Hildebrand and Mrs. Theodore F. Meyer, Kiel, and four brothers, Fred Prueter of Kiel, Arthur of Green Bay, Hugo of Round Lake, Ill., and Herman of Manitowoc. Two brothers preceded her in death. EDWARD HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Edward L. Henschel, 90, of 412 Sixth St., Kiel, died Wednesday evening at Rocky Knoll, Sheboygan County. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. John F. Baumann will officiate and burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Henschel was born Jan. 27, 1881, in the Town of Russell, son of the late Adolph and Katherine Buchmann Henschel. He and his father operated the Adolph Henschel Bottling Works in Kiel for many years selling the business in 1926 to Kiel Bottling Works. In March of 1902, he became a rural mail carrier at Kiel retiring in July of 1934. His wife preceded him in death in December of 1954. Mr. Henschel was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, Kiel Chapter of Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Assn., and was a former member of the city planning committee and the city park commission of Kiel. EDWIN E. HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Death came to Edwin E. Henschel, 53, Friday night at the basketball game in the Kiel high school gymnasium. He was seated with his wife at the game and had just started to enjoy the proceedings when he was fatally stricken by a heart attack. His death came almost instantaneously. His death occurred just before the end of the first game of the evening. A firm booster for sports and the father of three sons who participated in high school and college, Ed Henschel missed very few games, even though he had to slow down recently because of a serious heart attack last summer. He was born in April 16, 1905 in the town of Centerville and he attended district school in Meeme. He was married to Eva Brickbauer of Russell June 6, 1931. They have lived in Kiel ever since. For the past 34 years, Henschel has been employed by the Manitowoc County Highway Department. He was a member of the board of directors of the Kiel Municipal Band. He is a former member of the consistory of St. Peter’s church. Survivors are his wife; three sons (private), two granddaughters; three brothers, Albert of Rockville, Melvin of rural Elkhart Lake, and Elmer of Manitowoc, and four sisters, Mrs. Otto Ebeling or rural Cleveland, Mrs. Arno Kramer of rural Newton, Mrs. Ewald Stock of rural Manitowoc, and Mrs. Hugo Groskopf of rural Elkhart Lake. ELLA HENSCHEL cemetery #61 Mrs. Ella Henschel, 89, of the Town of Memee, died Monday morning at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had been a patient for a year. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley. The Rev. Richard Ulrich will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Henschel, nee Ella Arnnoldi(sic), was born Nov. 8, 1882, in the Town of Herman, daughter of the late Carl and Sophia Meyer Arnoldi(sic). She was married to Louis Henschel Oct. 8, 1904. The couple operated the Henschel home farm until retirement in April of 1948. Her husband preceded her in death in November of 1952. She then made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Henschel. She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley, and was a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include two sons, Leslie, of School Hill and Harvey, of Rt. 1, Newton, two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Erna) Schmitt, of Kiel and Mrs. Clarence (Verona) Stolzmann, of Cleveland; a brother, Clarence, of Howards Grove; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. ELSA HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Mrs. William Henschel, aged 44, well-known Kiel resident, passed away at the Fleener Clinic, Gary, Indiana, on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock, where she had been a patient since November 10. Mrs. Henschel, before her marriage Miss Elsa Eimermann, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Eimermann, and was born in the city of Sheboygan on December 20, 1890. After the death of her father in 1891, the Eimermann family moved to Elkhart Lake where Mrs. Henschel grew to womanhood. She completed her education at the Plymouth high school and upon graduation in 1909 taught three years in the rural schools of Sheboygan county. On February 6, 1913, at Milwaukee, she was married to William Henschel of here. With the exception of three years, during which time they lived at Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Henschel have always made Kiel their home. The deceased was a member of the Kiel R. N. A., Rebekahs, Kiel Frauenverein and the First Presbyterian church. Survivors are her husband, two children, Clarence and Lucile, both at home; and one sister, Mrs. Adolph Steinhardt of Plymouth. The body was brought to the family home on Paine street Monday afternoon. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home with special services held by the Royal neighbors and the Rebekahs. Special music was rendered by Mrs. L. A. Kolerus of here and Mrs. August Stoll of Plymouth. At two o'clock services were held at the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. C. R. Johnson, pastor of the church, and the Rev. James W. MacElree of Lodi, former pastor of the church, officiated at the services. The church choir sang "Lead, Kindly Light" and "It Is Well with my Soul," and Mrs. H. J. Anderson sang a solo, "Crossing the Bar." Acting as pallbearers were several brothers-in-law of the deceased, as follows: Edward and John Henschel, Frank Pasch, C. L. Davenport, Adolph Steinhardt and George Bruns. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery in the family lot. Relatives from Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Plymouth, Elkhart Lake, Green Bay, Russell, Rhine, Kiel and vicinity attended the funeral. - 1935


EMILIA HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Mrs. Henschel Passes Away End Comes Unexpectedly On Sunday; Rites Held Wednesday Mrs. Amelia(sic) Henschel, nee Maurer, aged 82, passed away Sunday afternoon at 5:45 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Philip Sinz. Death was due to a heart attack, and was unexpected. The deceased was born in Germantown on March 4, 1850. At the age of twelve years she came to the town of Russell, and on May 12, 1867 she was united in marriage to Adolph Henschel of Russell. The couple located on a farm six miles southwest of Kiel, where they resided for 38 years. In the spring of 1906 they sold the farm to their son Edmund and moved into a home of their own here. On Nov. 19, 1925 her husband passed away, after which she turned the property over to her daughter, Mrs. Sinz, and remained with her until the time of her death. Seven children were born to the couple. A son Gustave, died eight years ago. Surviving her are Mrs. Henry (Christel) Brickheimer, Stockbridge: Mrs. Philip (Mary) Sinz of here; Louis Henschel of Sturgeon Bay; Conrad Henschel of Greenbush; George Henschel of Sturgeon Bay; and Edmund Henschel in the town of Russell. There are 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home of her daughter, and at 2 o'clock at the St. Peter Reformed church.. The Rev. E. L. Worthman officiated, and interment was in the family lot at the Kiel Cemetery. The following grandsons of Mrs. Henschel acted as pallbearers: Erwin Brickheimer, Elder Henschel, Edgar Henschel, Elmer Henschel, Floyd Henschel and Milton Sinz. ESTHER HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Mrs. Esther Henschel, 76, a former Kiel resident, died Sunday evening, several hours after she was admitted to Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton. She had resided at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, for the past three years. The former Esther Vogel was born July 21, 1902, in Kiel, a daughter of Herman and Caroline Duerrwaechter Vogel. She attended Kiel schools. On June 23, 1934, she married Alvin Henschel at St. Peter UCC, Kiel. The couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig until 1968, when they retired and moved to Kiel. Mr. Henschel died May 15, 1976. She was a member of St. Peter UCC, Kiel. Survivors are three daughters, eight grandchildren, and a sister of Milwaukee. (edited for living) Funeral services will be at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor of St. Peter UCC, officiating. GEORGE HENSCHEL cemetery #82 George Henschel Dies in Manitowoc George Henschel, 75, was called to rest early Monday evening at a Manitowoc hospital. Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, at two o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Henschel was born in the town of Russell December 4, 1877, the son of the late Louis and Louise Buchman-Henschel. He was married in 1902 to Miss Catherine Spranger of Kiel, who preceded him in death April 3, 1935. August 29, 1936, he was married to Mrs. Mathilda Walter of Milwaukee. GILBERT HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Gilbert R. Henschel, 82, of 823 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Wednesday morning, January 31, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where he was a patient for one week. He was born April 25, 1907, at Kiel, son of the late Charles and Anna Voland Henschel. On June 20, 1931, he married Lydia Roethel at St. John United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald. He worked for a number of years at Laun Furniture in Kiel, 20 years with Wisconsin Public Service, and operated the former Gib’s Service Station in Kiel for 25 years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a former deacon at the church. Survivors include his wife, Lydia; a son (private); one daughter (private); four grandchildren; four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. GUSTAVE A. HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Gustave A. Henschel, 81, a retired town of Russell farmer from Route 2, Elkhart Lake, died at his home this morning following a five-month heart ailment. He was born in the town of Rhine on Nov. 6, 1875, the son of the late Carl and Rosa (Conrad) Henschel. He received his education at a Rhine district school and on Aug. 30, 1900, was married to Mary Mueller at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in the town of Russell. The couple lived on a farm in that township until 1929 when a son, Albert, took over for them. At that time they moved to a home across the road from their former farm dwelling. He served as a director of the Elkhart Lake Canning Co. until the plant closed a few years ago. He was also a former supervisor of Russell township and a former school board member of Districts One and Two in Russell. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel where funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, will be in charge of services. Burial will he in Kiel cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel from 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon until 11 o’clock Monday morning, and then at the church from 11:30 up until time of services. Survivors include: the widow; one son, Albert J., of Russell; a daughter, Mrs. Bert (Verona) Berner, of Wauwatosa four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William Brieske, Elkhart Lake. GUSTAVE HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Gust. Henschel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Henschel of Kiel, died at Friday afternoon at the Plymouth hospital, at the age of 48 years. He underwent a surgical operation, hoping he might get better, but it was all in vain. He is welll known here, for he made his home with his brother, Edmund Henschel. He leaves to mourn, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Henschel at Kiel, four brouthers and two sisters, Louis and George at Sturgeon Bay, Conrad at Greenbush and Edmund of here, Mrs. Henry Breckheimer of Stockbridge, and Mrs. Philip Sinz at Elkhart Lake. HENRIETTA HENSCHEL cemetery #82 Mrs. Henrietta Henschel, 83, of 513 6th St., Kiel, died at St. Nicholas Hospital Monday evening. She was taken to the hospital a few hours earlier after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home. The former Henrietta Fluhr was born in the Town of Schleswig on March 15, 1882, a daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine Fluhr, attended district schools, and was married to John Henschel of Kiel on June 27, 1903. The couple settled in Kiel following their marriage. Mrs. Henschel was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, Women’s Guild of the church, Royal Neigbors Lodge of Kiel, and the local Sewing Circle. Her husband died in October, 1949. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Eleanor) Wendling and Mrs. Joseph (Geraldine) Klaeser, both of Kiel; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Kriegelstein of Milwaukee, Mrs. Fred Steffen of Wausau, and two brothers, Edwin Fluhr of rural New Holstein, and John of Chilton. HILDEGARDE HENSCHEL cemetery #61 From the Sheboygan Press, Aug. 8, 1960 Rural Newton Woman Dies In Accident A rural Newton woman was killed and four others were injured late Sunday night in a two-car crash at a town road crossing in Manitowoc County. Mrs. Hildegarde Henschel, 49, of R. 1, Newton, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Nicholas Hospital shortly before midnight. Injured were Mrs. Henschel's husband, Herbert, 55; Wilbert P. Adams, 36, of R. 1, Elkhart Lake, and Wayne Breckheimer, 19, and Eugene Schwartz, 26, both of R. 2, Kiel. It was Manitowoc County's second traffic fatality of the weekend. Charles F. Gibbons, 23, of Grand Rapids, Mich., a University of Wisconsin graduate student in entomology, was killed early Saturday on the Sandy Bay Rd., a mile north of Two Rivers. Raises Toll To 17 The two deaths raised Manitowoc County's 1960 traffic toll to 17, seven more than were recorded during the entire 12-month period of 1959. The accident involving cars driven by Mr. Henschel and Adams occurred at 11:27 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of County Trunk Highways A and X, four miles south of St. Nazianz. The accident scene is about four miles north of the Sheboygan-Manitowoc county line. Traffic police reported that Henschel's car, southbound on A, was struck broadside when it turned left onto County Trunk X into the path of Adams' northbound auto. The two cars were hurled into a ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection. Officers said both were "completely demolished." The injured were taken to St. Nicholas Hospital in ambulances from Kiel and Manitowoc. Mrs. Henschel died en route to the hospital. Dr. Reed M. Simpson, Sheboygan County coroner, attributed her death to a crushed skull. Her husband, driver of the car, suffered abdominal bruises and a back injury. Hospital attendants described his condition today as "fair." Also in fair condition were Breckheimer, with a fractured right arm and scalp abrasions, and Schwartz, with a possible fracture of the right hip and a lacerated right arm. Adams was not hospitalized. He was treated at a physician's office in Kiel for chest abrasions and a laceration of the upper lip. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, Manitowoc County coroner, ordered an inquest into the death. No date was set, pending the release of the injured from the hospital. Mrs. Henschel, the former Hildegarde Christel, was born May 17, 1911, at St. Nazianz, a daughter of Albert and Philomena (Minnie) Kaltenbrun Christel. She was married to Herbert Henschel at St. Gregory's Catholic Church parsonage at St. Nazianz on April 25, 1931. Funeral Thursday The couple moved from School Hill to their present farm home, a mile northwest of Spring Valley, about 23 years ago. Mrs. Henschel was a member of St. James Evangelical and Reformed Church at Spring Valley, was treasurer of the Ladies' Aid Society, and was a member of the Good Neighbors Homemaking Club. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, two sons, five grandchildren, her father, Albert Christel, St. Nazianz; a brother, William Christel, St. Nazianz, and a sister, Mrs. Lorena Groh, Manitowoc. Her mother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. James' Church at Spring Valley with the Rev. Merlin Huebschman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. IDA HENSCHEL cemetery #83 Mrs. Jacob Henschel, 77, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Sunday evening at her home, 1033 7th St., Kiel. The former Ida Klauck was born near Kiel on June 11, 1888, the daughter of the late John Klauck and Kunegunde Winter Klauck. She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel and she was a member of that parish. Her marriage to Mr. Henschel of Town of Russell took place on May 9, 1908. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1958. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Aurelia) Nilles of Kiel and Mrs. Arthur (Shirley) Mertens, Milwaukee; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Ann Klauck, Mrs. Joseph Schnur and Mrs. Harry Bohnsack, all of Sheboygan and two brothers, Edward Klauck of New Holstein and Arthur Klauck, Kiel. Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, celebrant of the requiem Mass. JOHN HENSCHEL (d. 1919) cemetery #82 John Henschel was the victim of influenza early Thursday morning after a short illness. He was born September 11, 1889 in the town of Russell, Sheboygan Co. On November 30, 1912 he was united in marriage to Marie Leider in the town of Rantoul. For several years he operated a farm and after disposing of it he moved to this village where he has been employed by the A. A. Laun Co. He leaves his wife, two small children and a baby of only a few days old. The funeral was held Friday afternoon and the remains interred in Kiel cemetery. JOHN HENSCHEL (d. 1949) cemetery #82 Funeral services for John Henschel, 66, were held from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church Wednesday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. E. L. Worthman. Mr. Henschel died early Sunday morning at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan where he was apparently recuperating nicely from a major operation. A native of the town of Russell, Sheboygan county, Mr. Henschel was born May 21, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Henschel. When he was a few years of age, the family came to Kiel to reside. He was married in 1903 to Miss Henrietta Fluhr of the town of Schleswig. She survives together with two daughters, Mrs. Milford (Eleanor) Balz of Louis Corners, and Mrs. Joseph (Geraldine) Klaeser of this city; one grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pasch of Milwaukee, and Mrs. C. L. Davenport of this city; and two brothers, Edward of Kiel and William of Manitowoc. Mr. Henschel was a member of the Modern Woodmen, the Red Man lodge, the Kiel Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiel Fire department. October 23, 1949


KATIE HENSCHEL (d. 1931) cemetery #82 Was Born In Rhine; Long A Resident of Kiel At the advanced age of almost 75 years, Mrs. Katherine Buchmann Henschel passed away at the Plymouth hospital last Wednesday afternoon shortly before five o’clock. Efforts to save her life through an operation were unsuccessful. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine April 29, 1856. On March 7, 1877, she was united in marriage to Adolph Henschel, who also resided in Rhine. Justice Charles Heins performed the marriage ceremony. After their marriage, the couple moved to a farm in Russell. From Russell they moved to Marshfield, then returned to Russell, and subsequently moved to St. Anna and New Holstein. In about 1897 the family came to Kiel where they were to spend their remaining days. Mr. Henschel began a livery stable, which was conducted for fifteen years. This place was located on Sixth street, where the building, now out of use, still stands. Later on Mr. Henschel purchased what is now the Kiel Bottling Works, which he conducted for many years, when he retired from active business. It was on March 7, almost four years ago, that the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Henschel preceded his wife in death April 10, 1928. Since that time Mrs. Henschel had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. L. Davenport, of here. Five children were born to the couple; Mrs. Frank Pasch of Milwaukee and Mrs. Davenport here; and Edward, John, and William, all of this city. Four brothers also survive—Adam Buchmann of Russell, John Buchmann of Milwaukee, Michael Buchmann of Juneau, and George Buchmann of Kiel. The deceased had always taken an active interest in Church work and the social life of Kiel. She was a member of the Frauenverein of the St. Peter Reformed church, and was a charter member of the Kiel Royal Neighbors Lodge No. 2502. Both of these organizations were present in a body at the funeral services, which were held Saturday afternoon from the Davenport home. No newspaper named, 1931

She had been seriously ill for three weeks. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m., from the home and at 2 p.m. from the St. Peter Reformed church. Interment will be in the Kiel cemetery. The deceased, whose maiden name was Katherine Spranger, was born in Rhine, Sheboygan county in 1882. She was married to George Henschel of New Holstein in 1902 and they took up their home in Kiel where Mr. Henschel conducts a blacksmith shop. Mrs. Henschel was a member of the Frauenverein, G. U. G. auxiliary and the Needlecraft society of the St. Peter Reformed church. Survivors are the widower; a daughter Doris, at home; two brothers, John of Salem, Ore., and Frank of Kokomo, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Jannssen of Kiel.

She was born Dec. 29, 1905 in the town of Meeme, daughter of the late Fred and Anna Schreiber Roethel. She attended school in the town of Meeme. On June 20, 1931, Lydia married Gilbert Henschel at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Schwartzwald. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Henshel, pioneer Meeme farmer, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Schuette, New Holstein. She has made her home there for the past four years. Funeral Friday Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m., from the homestead farm in Meeme, now operated by a son, Louis. Services will be held at two o'clock at the St. James Evangelical church in Spring Valley with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The deceased, whose maiden name was Mary Oemichen, was born in Saxony, Germany in 1848 and accompanied her parents to America in 1855. The family located on a farm in Meeme. She married Christian Henschel in 1866 and they moved to a nearby farm. Mr. Henschel died 18 years ago. Mr. Henschel, who died Nov. 3, 1952, had operated a blacksmith business in Kiel. Following his death she made her home with a daughter and son- in-law, until last September, when she became a resident of the Gateway Nursing Home, Hartford. WILLIAM HENSCHEL cemetery #82 William J. Henschel, 77, of 2116 Washington St., Manitowoc, a former Kiel resident and one-time acting postmaster there, died early today at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. He had been a patient since last Saturday. A native of the Town of Russell, he was born Oct. 19, 1887, a son of the late Adolph and Catherine Henschel, and later moved to Kiel with his parents. He married Elsa Eimermann of Elkhart Lake, Feb. 6, 1913. She died in January, 1935. Mr. Henschel was formerly employed in the office of the Kiel Furniture Co., later working as an independent farm implement salesman. In 1939-40 he was acting Kiel postmaster. Later he moved to Manitowoc where he married Josephine Armatoski, Oct. 13, 1945. The couple operated a grocery store on S. 10th Street for a time, following which Mr. Henschel was employed in the Schuette Bros. department store at Manitowoc. He was a Manitowoc County deputy sheriff from 1941-44, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, and the Woodmen Lodge. Surviving are his wife; a son, Clarence, Kiel; six grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Lucille) Williams, Oshkosh, preceded him in death. MARGARET GENEVIEVE HENSEL cemetery #44 Mrs. Margaret Dorey Hensel, age 102, formerly of 531 N. Fifth St., Manitowoc, died on Saturday afternoon Sept. 6, 2008, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center. The former Margaret Dorey was born on March 12, 1906, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Barry) Dorey Sr. Margaret attended the Sacred Heart elementary school and graduated from Washington High School, Manitowoc, in 1923. She was the personal secretary to Mr. Guido Rahr of Rahr Malting Company until her retirement in 1954. She married Arthur W. Hensel on Jan. 23, 1954, in Cleveland, and the couple lived at Hika. Arthur preceded Margaret in death on Jan. 24, 1966. Margaret then moved back to Manitowoc in 1967. Margaret was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was past president and business manager of the Westen Choir of Manitowoc, past president of the 8th district National Federation of Music Clubs, past secretary of the Manitowoc Unit of National Federation of Music Clubs, a charter member and past secretary of the Manitowoc County Kennel Club, the Lakeshore Humane Society, co-founder of the Manitowoc County American Cancer Society, AARP, auxiliary member of Otto-Oas VFW 659 of Manitowoc and Drews-Bleser American Legion 88 of Manitowoc, charter member of Wisconsin Field Trial Association, past member of Capitol Civic Center, past member of Rahr West Museum and a past member of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Survivors include five nieces (private). Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Margaret Dorey Sr.; her husband: Arthur Hensel; five brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at noon at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (Waldo site), with the Rev. Richard Klingeisen celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. The little tot had accidentally stumbled over a pail of hot water which had been placed to scrub the floor. HERMAN HENTSCHER cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 25 Nov. 1909: Death following a long illness on Sunday morning of Hermann Hentscher, a well-known and highly thought of resident in our city. Mr. Hentscher was born 82 years ago in Halberstadt, Saxony, and served in the Prussian army during the stormy year of 1848. He came to America in 1853, and after a brief interlude in the east, came here to Manitowoc. He didn’t remain here very long before moving on to Missouri. At the outbreak of the Civil War he served with a Union Cavalry Regiment for the entire war. At war’s end, the experienced soldier returned here to Manitowoc where he has lived ever since, and for years has pursued the profession of a photographer. In 1867 he married Miss Anna Roeder, his now surviving widow left to mourn his passing with 2 daughters, Mrs. Albert Hoyer and Mrs. Albert Schuette. He is also mourned by a sister, Mrs. G. Fehrs here, as well as a brother living in Brooklyn. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. The local Free Mason Lodge and G.A.R. GUSTA HENTZ cemetery #44 Miss Gusta Hentz, 63, of 420 North Ninth street, died last night at the Holy Family hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, the Rev. A.C. Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Miss Hentz was born in Franklin, Kewuanee county in 1884 and 30 years ago came to this city to reside. Two brothers, Fred and Albert of this city survive.
