We didn’t have fancy stockings like you see today, but our everyday ugly brown 5tockings (clean or unclean, I don't remember) and no pretty mantel to hang from but any chair would do. Treats such as candy or an orange for good girls and boys, but sometimes a stick or potato to remind us to shape up, for Santa was near. Tressie through the hard times of the depression raised us six plus sisters and brothers, never leaving us without. St. Nicholas did for others as Tressie tried and did in her 100 years.
