THELMA M. HEAGLE Cemetery #44 From the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, Tuesday, July 15, 2003 Thelma M. Heagle, age 90, a resident of the Riverview Village, Menomonee Falls, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the village. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. David Rosenow, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. She was born May 9, 1913, in Kewaunee, daughter of the late Elert M. and Emma Ouradnik Sogge. On Dec. 3, 1947, she married Vernon Heagle at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Sept. 16, 2002. She was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law and two grandsons. Also surviving are other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister: Anna Sogge and a brother: Sonny Sogge. The family will greet relatives and friends at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

JOHN H. HEALY cemetery #44 John H. Healy, 57, of 1037 N. 17th St., Manitowoc, died Saturday evening at home. He had a heart attack and had been in ill health 10 years. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The Rev. E. A. Radey will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Healy was born at Glenmore, Brown County, Jan. 20, 1904, son of the late Cornelius and Sarah Halloran Healy. The family came to Manitowoc when he was an infant. He attended St. Boniface Parochial School, Lincoln High School and Marquette University, Milwaukee. He was employed as an automotive salesman and also operated a coin machine business. In 1947, he purchased Midtown Bowling Alleys, Menasha, which he operated until he retired because of ill health. He married Fanny Angus June 15, 1935, at St. Boniface Church. He was a member of Manitowoc Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife and two sisters, Miss Charlotte Healy and Mrs. Willard Sershon of Whitefish Bay, Wis. JUDITH ANNE HEALY cemetery #82 Judith Anne Healy, age 53, died unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2001 at her home in Arlington,Texas. Judy was born on Sept. 19, 1947 in Chicago, Ill., daughter of Barbara Johnson Healy and the late Richard E. Healy. She graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank, Ill. and attended Oak Park Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Park, Ill. as a RN. She received certification as a CRNA and Labor and delivery room nurse. She was currently employed as an OB nurse at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas. Judy loved her family, dogs and horses and liked to travel. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Survivors include her son (private); her mother (private); sisters (private), and nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard E. Healy in 1992 No newspaper named, 2001


RICHARD E. HEALY cemetery #82 Richard E. Healy, 70, of 804 Fourth St., Kiel, died Friday evening, Sept, 25, 1992 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He was born June 25, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late John and Anna (McCann) Healy. He attended Chicago public schools, Loyola University and Northwestern University. On Sept, 18, 1946 he married Barbara Johnson in Chicago at Our Lady Catholic Church. He was employed as a traffic and transportation manager for Burlington Railroad for about 14 years, then Krim-Ko Birelcys for about five years and then at Teledyne Continental Motors for 17 years, retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific. The couple moved to Kiel in 1985. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, Kiel VFW Post No. 6707 where he presently was senior vice commander, Kiel Optimist Club, Kiel Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council 5539, and the Kiel Monday night golf league. He was also a school bus driver for the Kiel School District and served on the Ss. Peter and Paul Parish Council for four years. SARAH HEALY cemetery #44 MRS. HEALY IS DEAD; FUNERAL TO BE MONDAY Wife of Patrolman Stricken With Heart Attack While At Work In Home Stricken with a heart attack as she worked about the home, 1012 South 16th street, late Friday afternoon, Mrs. Sarah Healy, 59, wife of patrolman C.P. Healy of the Manitowoc police department, died before a physician and her husband could be summoned. Her death occurred two days before her birthday anniversary. Mrs. Healy had been up as usual all week and had made trips downtown although not enjoying the best of health. She was able, when the attack came on Friday, to step to the window to summon neighbors to her aid and they at once phoned for a physician. A call to the police department sent Officer Darbant on his motorcycle. He located Officer Healy on South Eighth street and took him home but when he reached there Mrs. Healy was dead. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from St. Boniface church of which the deceased was a lifelong and devout member. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Born at Clarks Mills The deceased, whose maiden name was Sarah Halloran, was born 59 years ago at Clarks Mills and came to Manitowoc when the family located in this city. She was married here to "Con" Healy 29 years ago. They first located at Glenmore, Brown county, where Mr. Healy was engaged in business and after a few years residence there returned to Manitowoc where they since made their home. The husband, two daughters, Charlotte, at home, and Stella, teaching in Sheboygan, a son, John of this city, four sisters, Mrs. P.A. Peters, Mrs. John McCabe, Mrs. Richard Langrill and Mrs. Adolph Cisler, all of this city, and a brother John, city, survive. THOMAS F. HEALY cemetery #44 HERO OF THE EASTLAND BOAT DISASTER DEAD Thomas Healy Passes Away After Several Months Illness Thomas Francis Healy, one of the heroes of the Eastland disaster, passed away at the Holy Family hospital early this morning after an illness extending through the summer. Mr. Healy was removed to the hospital in June and his condition grew gradually worse, death being caused by complications. Mr. Healy was a veteran sailor and was known among marine men here. Before becoming ill, he was steward on the steamer Florida and was in charge of the boat when it was in port here last spring. Credited with saving the lives of many people when the Eastland turned over in Chicago in 1915, Mr. Healy showed remarkable bravery at that time of one of the greatest disasters, hundreds of persons having been drowned. Was Steward at Time The boat on which he was steward at the time was near the scene of the disaster and not only did he turn it into a hospital ship, but he dove into the water repeatedly saving the lives of many. Mr. Healy who had been a steward on various boats of the Goodrich line during his long years of service with that company, was steward on the Goodrich boat Virginia when it was put into service after being built at Cleveland in 1891. Born at Houghton, Ont., July 5, 1856, Mr. Healy later lived at Sarnia Ont., and at the age of 15, began sailing, first sailing on a Lake Superior boat. Chicago has been his home port for the last forty years. Surviving Family His wife, who was Miss Viola Winters, and three children, all passed away within a period of five years. He leaves three sisters, Mrs. C. Cochlan of Chicago, Mrs. S. Cone of Dover, Ohio and Mrs. Ella Hosford of Lincoln, Neb. Other relatives are two nieces, Miss Florence Cochlan of Chicago and Miss Blanche Irene Shaney of Lincoln, Neb., and two nephews, Arthur and Frank Cone. The body is at Pfeffer's undertaking parlors and it will be there until Friday morning when it will lie in state in the vestibule of St. Boniface church from 8:30 until 9 o'clock. Mr. Healy was with the Goodrich comapny as steward for a number of years and his shipmates, faithful to the end, were with him today for the last time. Before being taken ill early last summer Mr. Healy was steward on the Florida and in recognition of his faithful services, William M. Cochrane, proprietor of the Florida, came up from Chicago to be one of the pallbearers. The other pallbearers were J.P. Breuer, chief engineer on the Carolina; Ira Smith, painting contractor for the Goodrich line; W.E. HENRY HEAP cemetery #44 From the Manitowoc Pilot, 22 April 1875 Died - Heap - At the residence of Mr. Lake Wild in this city on the 14th inst., Henry Heap of Kossuth, aged 64 years. The deceased was born in Acrington, England, and came to this country 33 years ago. He moved to Kossuth in the spring of 1849, among the earliest of the English settlers, where he resided until the time of his death. Mr. Heap was a kind, genial, good hearted, obliging neighbor, and was much respected by his townsmen. His wife died a little over a year ago; his only daughter is the wife of Chas. Chatterton.


MARTHA HEAP cemetery #89A Mrs. Martha Heap, 89, a member of one of the earliest families in the Town of Gibson, where she was a lifelong resident, died Saturday night of a heart attack on the farm home on Rt. 1 Mishicot. Mrs. Heap, nee Martha Peck, was born in the Town of Gibson in 1865, a daughter of the late Darious and Christine Birdsall Peck. She was married to Henry Heap at Larrabee in 1884. He died in 1924. WILLIAM D. HEAP cemetery #89A William Heap, 68, lifelong resident of the Town of Gibson and an overseas Army veteran of World War I, died at the farm home at 5 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Specht Funeral Home, Mishicot, the Rev. B.A. Zimdars officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Heap was born in the Town of Gibson Aug. 20, 1891, son of the late Henry and Martha Peck Heap. With a brother, Clarence, he took over the operation of the homestead farm 45 years ago, which he continued to run until his death. Serving a year in France in World War I, he was a member of the Robert E. Burns Post 165, American Legion, Two Rivers. He was one of the first motorcyle owners in the Gibson area. Surviving besides the brother are three sisters, Mrs. Elsi Gloe of Kewaunee, Mrs. Joseph Liddle of Eagle River, Wis., and Mrs. Walter Gallaher of Milwaukee and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hebert, nee Ida Bruneau, was born May 31, 1891, at Marinette, a daughter of the late Napoleon and Victorine Hubert Bruneau. She was married to Geoffrey Hebert at Marinette June 16, 1920. The family moved to Two Rivers in 1926. She was a member of the Eleven Gold Star Post 1248, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Two Rivers and Ladies of St. Mark. Besides her husband she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Milton (Gertrude) Damm and Mrs. John (Marcella) Boeckman, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Karbowski, of Two Rivers; a brother, Napoleon Bruneau, of Two Rivers, 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. OTTO W. HECK cemetery #44 Otto W. Heck, 79, of 1414 New York Ave., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Donald Stannard will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Heck was born Feb. 11, 1893, at Kewaunee, son of the late Wenzel and Anna Dolinsky Heck. He married Irma Alberts June 14, 1916, at Kewaunee. The couple came to Manitowoc 50 years ago. He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., as a crane operator, retiring in 1957. He was a member of Machinists Local No. 516. Survivors include his wife, a son, Otto James Heck, of Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Marion) Nichols and Mrs. Goodnow (Vera Jane) Torrison, of Manitowc; a sister, Mrs. Charles Cherney of Two Rivers; four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. JOSEPH HECKER cemetery #21 Hold Rites For Aged Manitowoc County Resident St. Nazianz.-Funeral services were held here today for Joseph Hecker, 86, resident of Manitowoc county for more than 80 years, who passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Schuler, two miles southwest of here. Born in Germany in 1852, Mr. Hecker came with his parents to Manitowoc Rapids when he was a boy. Later he purchased a farm in the town of Eaton and in 1879 married Miss Mary Heinzen. The couple operated the farm until 1905, when they sold it and moved to St. Nazianz. In 1929 Mr. and Mrs. Hecker observed their golden wedding anniversary. Three years later they made their home with Mrs. Schuler. Mrs. Hecker died in 1933. Survivors are a son, Joseph Jr., of Greenwood, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Schuler, of Eaton; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Edward Kustka, of Evanston, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. EDWARD F. HECKMANN cemetery #87 E. F. Heckmann Dies Thursday After Ailment Edward Frederick Heckmann, 62, a life-long resident of town Meeme, passed away on Thursday evening at Sheboygan Memorial hospital where he was confined by a heart ailment. He was born in town Meeme on June 11, 1881, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Carl Heckmann. On Feb. 10, 1917, he was married to Miss Clara Wessel of town Herman. The couple operated a dairy farm in town Meeme township since. Mr. Heckmann was treasurer of the Mineral Spring school No. 4 district for 18 years, and served on the board of directors of the School Hill cheese factory since it was organized in 1927. For the past 12 years he has served as secretary- treasurer of the Zion Evang. Lutheran church at Louis Corners. The survivors include his widow, three children, Delores, Manitowoc; Rogent, Cedarburg, and Evelyn, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Augusta Schultz, Port Washington; Miss Agnes Heckmann, Highland Park, Ill.; Mrs. Emma Voss, Cleveland, Wis.; Mrs. Elsie Phillips, Sheboygan; four brothers, William of Illendale, N. Dak.; Henry and Hanford of the state of Washington; Elmer, Menomonie, Wis.; and Cranston, Spring Valley. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:15 o’clock on Monday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home in Kiel, where the body may be viewed after 12 o’clock on Sunday noon, and at 2 o’clock at the Zion Evang. Lutheran church in Louis Corners, the Rev. Harold O. Grunwald will officiate. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The casket will not be opened in the church. ELWYN HECKMANN cemetery #87 Elwyn Heckmann, 44, of R. 1, Kiel, a Kiel School District bus driver, died early today of an apparent heart attack. He had brought students to the Kiel Elementary School and was stricken after the children were discharged from the bus. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. On April 14, 1951 he married for former Mar Jean Schmidt of the Town of Schleswig at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple settled on the Heckmann home farm in the Town of Meeme. Mr. Heckmann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the church council, a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the Aid Association for Lutherans of the church. FERDINAND J. HECKMANN cemetery #87 Ferdinand J. Heckmann, age 81, passed away in the town of Meeme on Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Heckmann was born April 13, 1855 in the town of Sheboygan Falls, and on July 9, 1885 he was united in marriage with Maria Lorfeld of the town of Meeme, who preceded him in death April 21, 1927. Mr. Lorfeld has resided in the town of Meeme since 1860, when he arrived here with his parents. Five children were born of this union, as follows: Mrs. William (Anna) Voigt of Cleveland, Mrs. Otto (Ida) Karstaedt of Newton R. 1, Mrs. Ed. (Lydia) Karstaedt of Newton, Herman Heckmann of the town of Meeme, and William Heckmann of Sheboygan Falls. Twenty grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. G. Pollard of Plainfield, Ill. also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon from the home in the town of Meeme at 1:30 p.m. and at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Louis Corners, with the Rev. Harold O. Grunwald officiating. Burial will be made in the adjoining church cemetery.


HERMAN M. HECKMANN cemetery #87 H. H. Heckmann Passes Away Here Following Illness (Note:Middle initial is not a typo.) Herman M. Heckmann, 53, of route 2, Sheboygan, passed away this morning at the Memorial hospital following a lingering illness. Born April 20, 1892, in the town of Meeme, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Heckmann, he attended the rural schools and on July 17, 1919, he was married to Irma Pohl at St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Sheboygan Falls. They resided on the homestead farm in the town of Meeme until 1936 when they moved to Kiel and remained there until 1944 when they moved to their present home. He was a member of of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Louis Corners, and also a member of the Lutheran Aid. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Vivian, at home; one brother and two sisters, William of Sheboygan Falls, Mrs. William (Anna) Voigt of Cleveland, Wis., and Mrs. Otto (Ida) Karsteadt of Newton. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Ballhorn Funeral chapels from Sunday noon until 10 a.m. Monday when the body will be removed to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Louis Corners. Heckmann, 53, of route 2, Sheboygan, who passed away Thursday morning at Sheboygan Memorial hospital, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Lewis Corners. The Rev. H. O. Grunwald officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were William Meyer, Herman Bolle, Constant Hammes, Paul Powers, Julius Krueger, and William Witte. JUSTINE HECKMANN cemetery #87 Mrs. Justine Heckmann, widow of Carl Heckmann, who resided near Louis Corners, passed away at one p.m. Sunday at the residence of her son Edward Heckmann, where she made her home, following a paralytic stroke, with which she was stricken at about 6 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Heckmann was born on December 12, 1848, in Germany and at the age of twenty-one years came to the United States. Her husband died thirteen years ago. Mrs. Heckmann had resided in the home in which she died for the past forty years, it being the family homestead. The survivors are five sons, William Heckmann of New York City, Henry of Champaign, Ill., Elmer of Milan, Cranston of Spring Valley, and Edward on the homestead; five daughters, Mrs. Carl Voss of Sheboygan, Mrs. Augusta Schultz of Glenbeulah, Mrs. Fred Lindstrum of Highland Park, and Mrs. Alfred Philips near Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. from the late home, Rev. W. Kuether of Louis Corners will officiate and burial will be made in the Louis Corners cemetery. MARY HECKMANN cemetery #87 Mrs. Ferd. Heckmann was claimed by death last Thursday evening at her farm home in the town of Meeme, one mile south of School Hill. She had been ill for about four months with cancer of the liver. Mrs. Heckmann, nee Mary Lorfeld, was born in the town of Meeme on Jan. 3, 1863. After her marriage to Mr. Heckmann in 1883, the couple settled on their present farm, which is now the homestead, managed by their son, Herman. Besides her husband, the survivors are five children, Mrs. Wm. Voigt of Centerville, Mrs. Otto Karstaedt of Town Meeme, Mrs. Ed Karstaedt of Town Newton, Herman on the homestead and William of Sheboygan Falls; also three brothers, one sister and 14 grandchildren. Rev. W. Kuether conducted the funeral services which were held on Monday at 1:30 at the farm home, followed by rites at the Louis Corners church. The remains were interred in the adjoining cemetery. SABINA HEDLER cemetery #82 Death claimed Mrs. William Hedler on Tuesday at a hospital in Green Bay after an unsuccessful operation of a tumor and diseased appendix. Nee Sabina Reichert was born in the Town of Rhine on August 7, 1886. She married in December 1904, to William Hedler and the couple took up their residency in Kiel where the family lived for 6 years when they moved to Hilbert and then to Mass, Michigan. Besides her husband the survivors include four sons, five brothers; Alfred, Herman, Edward, Emil & Fred; four sisters Mrs. Adolph Donath, Mrs. Hy Jugenheimer, Mrs. William Burkhardt and Mrs. Emil Raquet. The remains were shipped to Kiel and the funeral will take place from the Burkhardt home, with the Rev. Wm Rech officating. Burial will be at the Kiel Cemetery. - February, 1925

DONALD J. HEDMAN cemetery #33 Donald J. Hedman, age 70, of Manitowoc, died Sunday, March 2003 at the Hamilton Home of Two Rivers. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Steven Miles will officiate with inurnment of his cremated remains at Knollwood Memorial Park. Donald was born June 8, 1932 at Rice Lake, son of the late Andrew and Maude Richardson Hedman. He grew up and was educated at Rice Lake joining the U.S. Army following high school. Donald moved to Two Rivers in 1953 and moved to rural Manitowoc in 1979. He worked for the Manitowoc Company until his retirement in 1996. On June 16, 1979 he was married to Patricia Beatty Scimemi at Manitowoc. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church of Manitowoc. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching the Green Bay Packers. FRIEDA HEIDEMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. Otto C. Heidemann, aged 57, well-known town of Schleswig resident, passed away at her home at 1:00 a.m. Friday following a stroke. Mrs. Heidemann was born September 24, 1887, in the town of Rhine, the daughter of Fred and Marie Horneck. She attended the district schools in Sheboygan county, and was confirmed in 1901 in the St. Petri's Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Rhine. She worked as a seamtress at Plymouth before her marriage. She was united in marriage with Otto C. Heidemann on October 12, 1909. The couple has since resided on the homestead farm in the town of Schleswig, on the shores of Cedar Lake. Among the survivors are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Marion) Hansmann of Plymouth, Mrs. Ralph (Henrietta) Maschmeier, Camp Lajuene, North Carolina, Mrs. Karl (Marguerite) Wernecke, Audubon Park, New Jersey, Miss Elfrieda of Chicago, William at home, and Frederick, a student at the Lutheran Seminary at Thiensville. Four grand-children survive with two brothers and two sisters, Walter Horneck of this city, Norman of Sheboygan, Miss Laura Horneck of Plymouth, and Mrs. Norman Schierstedt of Plymouth. She has been preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Zion Lutheran church at Louis Corners, with the Rev. Harold Grunwald officiating, and interment was made in the Kiel cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Hansmann, Philip Maurer, Edgar Mueller, Herman Koeser, Herman Maurer, and Howard Prahl. - 1945

MARIE HEIDEMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. Marie Heidemann, nee Meyer, died at the Plymouth hospital on Saturday morning at 2 o’clock, after having been ill only a few days. She was born in Masdorf, Kingdom of Hannover, Germany, on November 27, 1854. In 1875, with a sister, Mrs. Carl Best she came to this country, and lived with her brother, Wm. Meyer at Millhome. She was married to Wm. Heidemann in 1877 and they moved onto a farm at Cedar Lake now owned by her son, O. C. Heidemann, where they lived until 1919. Since that time Mr. and Mrs. Heidemann made their home in Millhome. Her husband died in August 1923. The following children survive her: Mrs. Otto Kletzien and Mrs. Arvin Schmidt of Schleswig, E. F. Heidemann of Thorp and O. C. Heidemann on the homestead. There are also 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from her home at Millhome. OTTO C. HEIDEMANN cemetery #82 Otto C. Heidemann, 89, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer and a former chairman of the township, died Monday afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital, West Bend, where he had been a patient for several days. Born on Oct. 21, 1885 in Schleswig, he was a son of the late William and Marie Meyer Heidemann. He attended the district school at Louis Corners. He also attended the farm short course at the UW-Madison. He married Frieda Horneck of the Town of Rhine on Oct. 12, 1909 at Rhine Center. The couple farmed in Schleswig their entire married lives. Mrs. Heidemann died in 1945. For the past four years he resided with a daughter, Mrs. Roland Thomas, West Bend. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Louise Corners, and served on its cemetery association. He was active in political and civic affairs the past 40 years, serving as a former Town of Schleswig clerk, justice of the peace, Manitowoc County Board supervisor, secretary-treasurer of the Manitowoc County Fair Board and the Cedar Lake Improvement Association. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Henrietta) Maschmeier and Mrs. Roland (Heidi) Thomas, both of West Bend, and Mrs. Karl (Marguerite) Wernecke, Spring Valley; two sons, William, Sheboygan, and the Rev. Frederick Heidemann, New London; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners, the Rev. Adalbert Schultz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. ANDREW HEIER cemetery #26 Andrew J. Heier, 80, harnessmaker at Kellnersville for the last 63 years, died Tuesday morning at Yindra Boarding Home, Francis creek, following a short illness. Funeral services will be 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Heier was born Dec. 30, 1883, at Medford, son of the late Andrew and Theresa Fischer Heier. He married Francis Cherney of Kellnersville, June 7, 1909. She preceded him in death in 1928. He learned the harness maker trade at Medford. Through and advertisement in a local newspaper, he learned that the community of Kellnersville was in need of a harness maker. He settled in Kellnersville in 1900 and was active as a harness maker until the time of his death. He was a musician in his early days, playing clarinet with the Crown Band and Kellnersville Brass Band. He was a former treasurer of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include four sons, Melvin of Los Angeles, Calif., Edward of Green Bay and Gene and Leo of Manitowoc; two brothers Wencel of Staples, Minn., and John of Medford; a sister, Mrs. John Georg of Medford and 14 grandchildren. Plant No. 1 department head and long active in sports circles in the area, died Saturday afternoon at home. Mr. Heili was born Dec. 10, 1910, at Victoria, Kans., son of the late Peter and Mary Hammerschmidt Heili. When he was 14 the family brouht him to Two Rivers. For many years he had been foreman of the elements department at the Mirro plant. A member of early city baseball teams at Two Rivers, he was affiliated with the Manitowoc County Old Timers Baseball Players Assn., the St. Joseph Athletics Assn. as will as the Morther of Hope Council 1957, Knights of Columbus, the Owls Club, past president of Mirro Management Club, a member of the Twenty Grand Club, sang in St. Luke church choir for 40 years and later in the choir at Holy Redeemer Church. WILLIAM J. “BILL” HEILI cemetery #89D William J. “Bill” Heili, age 84, of Two Rivers, was called to his eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. He was born on May 8, 1917 in Hayes, Kan., the son of the late Peter and Mary Hammerschmidt Heili. He married the former Nettie Bramer on Oct. 12, 1940 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1998. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed at Mirro Aluminum for 46 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Two Rivers VFW and the Men of St. Luke. The deceased, who was 45 yrs. 2 mos. 7 days of age, was born in Schweinfurth and came to New York in 1876 where she married Valentin Heim. From there the couple came to Centerville where they have lived ever since. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Heim is survived by a son and 7 daughters. The funeral was yesterday.

RAYMOND A. HEIM cemetery #44 Raymond A. Heim, age 77, a Manitowoc and Two Rivers area resident, who resided during the winter in Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., died Monday, February 26, 2001, at Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. Memorial Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Manitowoc. Cremation has taken place with burial of the cremains to be at Evergreen Cemetery. He was born February 8, 1924, in Manitowoc County, son of the late Albert L. and Mary J. Pozorski Heim. He attended the Manitowoc Public School system. Raymond entered the United States Air Force during World War II serving overseas with the 1st Air Commandos. After being honorably discharged he returned to Manitowoc and was employed at Mirro Aluminum until 1962, he then started employment with Eck Industries until his retirement in 1989. He married Shirley Johnson on September 24, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Shirley preceded Raymond in death July 1987. He later married Margaret Shallue Monka on July 2, 1993, at Manitowoc. Raymond was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Chapter #24 and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He was a pitcher and avid fan of fast- pitch softball. He played during the 40’s and 50’s for numerous local teams. His two favorite teams were Tadych’s Bar and Tiny Laude’s Bar. He considered his best pitching game was against the Wisconsin State Champions (Peter’s Meats), it was a 15 inning game and he won it in the bottom of the 15th inning. He also loved to play golf. ADOLPH W. HEIMANN cemetery #82 Adolph W. Heimann, 88, a former Kiel resident, died Saturday evening at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, where he was a resident the past five years. He was born Nov. 23, 1897, in the Town of Newton, a son of the late John and Anna Kono Heimann. He attended Town of Newton schools, and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, majoring in agriculture. On June 9, 1923, he married Hilda Koellmer. He farmed in the Town of Lima from 1923 to 1944, when the couple moved to the Town of Mosel. He retired in 1963, and moved to Kiel. Mrs. Heimann died in 1966. Mr. Heimann was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. Survivors include two daughters (private); five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. HILDA O. HEIMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. Adolph Heimann, 66, of 121 Chicago St., Kiel, died early this morning at her home. She had been in ill health the past several months. The former Hilda Koellmer was born Jan. 27, 1900, in the Town of Herman, a daughter of the late Gustave and Louisa Koellmer. She attended the Town of Meeme district school and on June 9, 1923, married Mr. Heimann of the Town of Newton. For 21 years, the couple farmed in the Town of Lima before moving to the Town of Mosel, where they farmed for 19 years. They lived in Kiel since their retirement in 1963. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Kiel. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, five grandchildren; a brother, Walter Koellmer, Sheboygan; and a sister, Mrs. Erma Reische, Sheboygan. ANTON HEIN cemetery #83 Anton Hein, one of Kiel's well-known citizens, passed away at his home in this city on Thursday of last week at the advanced age of 88 years. Decedent was born in Bavaria, Germany, November 13, 1834. As a young man he learned the cobbler's trade, and in 1868 was married to his wife Minna, who survives him. In 1871 the couple came to America, Mr. Hein going into the saloon business in Sheboygan county. In 1875 he established himself in Charlesburg in the saloon business, which he conducted seven years, when he came to Kiel. Here he also conducted a saloon for a number of years, was road superintendent and served the village eleven years as marshal. For the past 15 years he was troubled with failing eyesight, and for the last few years was almost totally blind. Besides his widow he is survived by three children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Four children have preceded him in death. Those living are: Alois in Kiel, John in Milwaukee and Lena in Evanston, Ill. The funeral took place on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with services in the St. Peter and Paul's church, Rev. O. Kolbe officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. - 1923


CHRISTIAN HEIN cemetery #82 Christ Hein Dies Wednesday Morning Death came Wednesday morning at his home in Kiel to Christian Hein, 84, pioneer resident of Kiel, having come here in 1887. He was born in Germany, November 28, 1868 and came to this country when he was 19 years of age. After a short residence in Chicago, he came to Kiel. He was married to Clara Hanske April 26, 1894. He was employed in local factories until about five years ago. He is survived by his wife and two children. They are E. W. Hein and Mrs Frank Bowe, both residents of this city. There are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church and Modern Woodmen lodge. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman in charge. Burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. CLARA E. HANSKE HEIN cemetery #82 Mrs. Clara E. Hanske Hein, 87, died this morning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hein, at Kiel. She had been ill for the past week. Born Aug. 13, 1870, in a log cabin on 4th St. in Kiel, the daughter of Julius and Dorothea Mitterhausen, she moved to Chicago with her parents and attended school there and in Kiel. She was married in Chicago to Christian Hein, and two years later they moved to Kiel. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, the church Frauen Verein, the city of Kiel Frauen Verein, Royal Neighbors of America, G.U.G. Germania Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors are a son, Edmund, and a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Luetta) Bowe, both of Kiel; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in January of 1953; a brother, Edmund, in 1914, and a sister, Althea, in 1955. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating, and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. EDMUND HEIN cemetery #82 Edmund W. (Corp) Hein, 76, of 309 S. Third St., Kiel, died unexpectedly Sunday at his cottage at Cedar Lake. Christian Science funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Hein was born Jan. 5, 1895, at Chicago, son of the late Christian and Clara Hanske Hein. He came to Kiel with his parents at the age of seven and attended Kiel public schools. He later enrolled at the Molar System of Colleges, Chicago, where he was educated in the barber profession. He had been employed in Marion and New London before entering the service. He served in World War I in France for nine months. Mr. Hein served as chairman of the Kiel Unit of the Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Assn. for five years. He was a charter member, past commander and at time of death sergeant at arms of the Kasper-Wilkens-Beckley American Legion Post No. 99 of Kiel. He was also a member of the Tri-County VFW Post No. 6707 of Kiel. In 1919, he opened a barbershop at Kiel, retiring in 1963. He was later employed part time as a Kiel Police and Fire Dept. alarm dispatcher. Survivors include two sons, Clair E. of Neenah and Clifford J. of Shawano, four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Papendieck of Racine, Mrs. Fredric (Lois) Duperrault of Platteville, Mrs. Joseph (Beth) Woppert and Mrs. Roy (Beverly) Gencks of Milwaukee and 20 grandchildren. EDWARD HEIN cemetery #44 Edward Hein, 72, residing on route 4, Manitowoc, died suddenly of a heart attack at the farm home early last evening. His wife summoned a physician when he was stricken but his death occurred a few minutes later. Mr. and Mrs. Hein had recently disposed of their farm in the western part of Manitowoc Rapids and planned to move to this city to make their residence. JOHN P. HEIN cemetery #72 EX-RESIDENT OF CITY DIES IN MONTANA John P. Hein, former Manitowoc man who has been making his home in the west for the past 32 years, died at Butte, Montana yesterday afternoon from complications, according to messages received by relatives in this city today. He was 50 years of age. Mr. Hein was born in Manitowoc on June 9, 1882 and left Manitowoc for the west when 18 years of age. He lived in Colorado for a period and later moved to Butte where he represented a powder company as a salesman. He never married and his only immediate relatives are three brothers, Matt and Philip of Manitowoc, Peter of Evanston, Illinois and one sister, Mrs. William Weinert of Butte. The remains are to be brought to this city for interment and will arrive in Manitowoc on the 4:45 o'clock train Friday afternoon. The remains will rest in state at the Pfeffer Fuenral Home South Fourteenth street, Friday evening and services will be held from the funeral home at 9 o'clock and from the St. Andrews church at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Joyce was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was an active volunteer for the Manitowoc Health Care Center, St. Boniface Catholic Church and for the Meals on Wheels Program. LEO (TIBBY) S. HEIN cemetery #83 Leo (Tibby) S. Hein, 79, of 726 St. Paul Street, Kiel, died Monday morning, November 18, at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, Sheboygan were he was a resident for one week. He was born October 18, 1912, in Kiel, son of the late Alois and Margaret (Klauck) Hein. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Kiel High School. On July 26, 1938, he married Lyanna Moritz at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. From 1929 to 1978 he worked at the Kiel Woodenware as a foreman and yard superintendent, retiring in 1978. His wife Lyanna preceded him in death on March 27, 1985. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Improved Order of Redmen/Manitowoc Tribe #49. Survivors include one son, two daughters, four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother. (Survivors edited for privacy) He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Hein, 70, a retired school teacher, who died Saturday while visiting a daughter and son-in-law at Platteville. Mrs. Nadine de Vries will read the Christian Science service. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. The former Ruth Goltry was born at Shariton, Iowa, on Sept. 10, 1898, the daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Hollingshead Goltry. Her family moved to Kenosha and then to Sheboygan. A graduate of Sheboygan County Teacher’s College, Mrs. Hein taught school in Kenosha, Kiel, Maple Grove, Ada and Greenbush. She was married to Edmund W. Hein of Kiel on April 9, 1925. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Plymouth; the Mother Church of Boston; Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens Post No. 99 American Legion Auxiliary; Kiel Garden Club; G.U.G. Germainia Society and the Wisconsin Education Association. She was the first president of the Kiel P.T.A. Association. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, two sons, 20 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anthony Tupka of Kenosha, and two brothers, Halbert Goltry of Gladstone, Ore. and Nyron Goltry of Kenosha. MARGARET HEIN cemetery #83 Mrs. Margaret Hein Dies Saturday at Hospital Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Margaret Hein at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church with the Rev. George Kiefer officiating. Services were also held at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hein died Saturday at St. Nicholas hospital after a week’s illness. She had been a resident of the Anna M. Reiss home for the past six months. She was born at Mequon, January 2, 1877, the daughter of John and Mary Klauck. Her parents moved to Kiel when she was a young girl and she had been a resident of Kiel since then. Her marriage to Alois Hein took place October 19, 1897. Mr. Hein died in September, 1936. Mrs. Hein was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and the parish’s Christian Mothers Society Surviving are three sons, Norman, Leo and Robert, all of Kiel; a sister Mrs. Mary Meinert, Kiel; a brother Ben Klauck, Milwaukee, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


NORMAN A. HEIN cemetery #83 Norman A. Hein, 69, of 413 Sixth St., Kiel, died Tuesday night at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. Born Dec. 10, 1898 in Kiel, he was a son of the late Alois and Margaret Klauck Hein. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Kiel High School. On July 1, 1924, he married the former Valentina Becker of Evansville, Ind. At Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. The couple lived in Chicago until 1932 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Hein was an employe of the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, eight grandchildren; two brothers, Leo of Kiel and Robert of Chilton. The former Valentina Becker was born Jan. 7, 1900, a daughter of the late Valentine and Johanna Neuhaus Becker at Evansville, Ind. She moved to Chicago where she was married to Mr. Hein on July 1, 1924 at Holy Name Cathedral. The couple resided in Chicago until 1932 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Hein died Oct. 29, 1969. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors include two daughters (names omitted for privacy), eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Glen Harkens, Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Rena Kolb, Wadesville, Ind., and a brother, Edmund Becker, Falls Church, Va. WILHELMINA HEIN cemetery #83 Called By Death On Saturday, Mrs. Anton Hein, and old-time resident of Kiel, was called to her reward at the Veterans' Home in Waupaca, death being due to a paralytic stroke. Mrs. Hein was born in Chemitz, Saxony, Germany, Oct. 6, 1848 and came to Wisconsin in 1863, locating in the town of Russell, where she was married to Anton Hein. Mr. Hein was Kiel's village marshal about 20 years ago and later conducted the saloon now owned by Joseph Schaller. He preceded her in death a year and a half ago. Several months ago Mrs. Hein sold her house in the city and went to Waupaca to live at the Veterans' Home, where death came. The remains were brought to Kiel, where burial took place on Tuesday, Rev. Roder officiated at the funeral services, which were held at St. Peter & Paul's church. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Three children survive her, namely: Miss Lena Hein of Kenilworth, Ill., who is spending the summer here, Alvis Hein of Kiel, and John Hein of Milwaukee. Also four grandchildren survive.

MICHAEL HEINDL Michael Heindl, 60, a resident of Yindra Boarding Home, Francis Creek, died Monday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. The Rev. Richard Heyman will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Heindl was born Sept. 12, 1910, in the Town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, son of the late Frank and Emma Byle Heindl. He had been employed as a farm hand on the Paul D. Mangin farm near Maple Grove for many years. There are no immediate survivors. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 o'clock this Tuesday evening where a prayer service will be at 6:30 o'clock. Manitowoc Herald Times, Manitowoc, Wis. March 23, 1971


CARL HEINGARTEN, SR. From Der Nord Westen, 25 Jan. 1906 Death Tuesday evening of 57-year old Carl Heingarten, Sr., of a brain disease in Holy Family Hospital. The deceased was born 19 September 1848 in Baden and as a boy came to America with his parents, arriving in our city where he has lived since 1857. During the Civil War he served as a volunteer with the 39th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. In 1870 he married Miss Louise Winter, his now sorrowing widow. Also mourning his passing are 4 children - Carl Heingarten, Jr., of Chicago, Mrs. W. Willinger and Miss Rose and Walter Heingarten here, as well as a brother living in New Orleans, Louisiana, and 2 sisters. The deceased was a shoemaker by trade and for many years operated a shoe store on South Main Street. He was a member of the G.A.R. and of the singing club "Concordia". In his passing the city has lost a respected and beloved citizen and the family has lost a loving husband and father. He was often elected by his fellow citizens to positions of trust and he filled those posts honorably. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from St. Boniface Church. NOTE: I believe this is where this obit goes, the year of death matches, the Civil War regiment matches and there are no other Carl Heingartens in and other cemeteries, although the year of birth differs.


FRIEDRICH HEINIG cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 19 Dec. 1895: After a long confinement, Mr. Friedrich Wilhelm Heinig, well-known manufacturer of knit goods, has died here of pneumonia. He was born 04 Mar. 1853 in Burgstaedt, Kingdom of Saxony, and came to America 12 yrs. ago. He first settled in Centerville but moved here about 10 yrs. ago. He is survived by his widow and 8 children. Burial will be Mon. afternoon in the city cemetery.


HEDWIG A. HEINIG cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 12 Oct. 1899: Death Tues. evening of Hedwig Heinig, the eldest daughter of widow Ernestina Heinig here, of scarlet fever. The other six children in the family also lie ill with the dread disease but appear to be on the way to recovery. Mrs. Heinig has had a series of misfortunes - within the last two years she has lost her husband, a son and her elderly mother. The daughter who just died was 19 and the only support of her mother; the other children are still small. The funeral will be held this afternoon. ********* [female/cause: scarlet fever]
