WILLIAM A. HASELOW cemetery #44 Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Pfeffer funeral home for William Haselow of Chicago, a former Manitowoc resident, who died Friday. Conducting the rites will be the Rev. Paul Blaufuss of St. John's Evangelical church, and interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery. He was 55. While living in Manitowoc Mr. Haselow was employed by the Olson Transportation company. He was born on April 28, 1889, in Germany, and was united in marriage with the former Olga Giese on August 2, 1918. She survives with two daughters, Mrs. Harry Mortek of Green Bay and Mrs. Stanley Dziengeleski of Chicago; two sons, Virgil, who resides in Chicago and Gene, in the navy. He also leaves three brothers, Fred, Paul and Anton Haselow of Milwaukee; four sisters, Mrs. Gustie Sonnenburg of Manitowoc; Mrs. Mary Kerstien of Lansing, Ind.; Mrs. Emma Lueke and Mrs. Carlos Waite both of Milwaukee The body is lying in state at the funeral home. Peil officiating, and burial will be at Evergreen cemetery, and not Calvary as stated in the report of the death yesterday. Mrs. Hasenfus was 65 years of age. The obiturary notice was in error in stating that the mother of Mrs. Hasenfus survived her. FRANZISKA HASENFUSS cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 24 Sept. 1896: Death on Sat., after a long and difficult illness with T.B., of 32 yr. old Mrs. Franziska Hasenfuss, wife of 7th Ward resident John Hasenfuss. She is survived by her husband and 2 small children. The well-attended funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the local Catholic Cemetery.
FRANK HASHEK (d. 1926) cemetery #89A Frank Hashek passed away at this home on 2310 Adams street, Monday evening after a lingering illness of six months, death being due to dropsy with which he was afflicted for the past year. Deceased was born in Two Creeks August 2, 1854 and resided there forty-one years. Forty-five years ago, he was married to Catherine Fishta of Two Creeks. Six children were born to them, five surviving. Besides his widow, the children left by the deceased are Mrs. Mary Billings of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. George Schultz of Manitowoc, Mrs. Albert Althen, Frank and Adolph Hashek all of this city. He also leaves several grandchildren. Deceased started his employment with the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company, Sept. 4, 1899. He was thus a member of the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company “Twenty-Five Year Club.” Membership in this club is based on 25 years of continuous and active service with the organization [incomplete]. MARY HASPER cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 20 May 1897: Death yesterday of Miss Maria Hasper, daughter of 11th St. resident widow Hasper. The deceased, who was 20 yrs. old, had enjoyed good health until 14 days ago when she came down with lung inflammation which caused her death yesterday. She is survived, not only by her mother, but 2 sisters. The burial will take place Sun. afternoon at the city cemetery.

CHARLES HASSEMER Charles Hassemer, 72, a former Francis Creek resident, died Tuesday afternoon at Maple Crest Nursing Home, Whitelaw, where he had been a patient eight months. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Hassemer was born Feb. 16, 1900, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Louis and Margaret Seidl Hassemer. He married Mathilda Ahl June 2, 1926. The couple farmed in the Town of Kossuth until 1952. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1961. He was employed at Medusa Portland Cement Co., Manitowoc, until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church Holy Name Society, Francis Creek Sportsman Club and Manitowoc Senior Citizens. Survivors include three sons and a daughter (Survivors omitted for privacy.); three sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Meyer and Mrs. Ann Glaeser, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Emma Kerscher, of Francis Creek and 18 grandchildren. JOSEPH HASTREITER cemetery #6 VALDERS MAN DIES SUDDENLY Joseph Horstreiter(sic), a well known resident of Valders, died suddenly as result of a brain hemmorhage which he suffered while at work at Clarks Mills. Mr. Horstreiter was taken to his home at Valders but died before reaching there. The deceased was employed as a carpenter. He was 45 years of age and is survived by a wife and three children. JOHANN HASTREITER cemetery #6 From Der Nord Westen, 01 Oct. 1896: Death in Town Cato on Mon. of the 15 yr. old son of Franz Horstreiter, of diphtheria. The funeral took place next day. Mr. Horstreiter lost a 16 yr. old son to the same disease a few days ago, and 2 other children in the family lie ill with it.
JOSEPH A. HASTREITER cemetery #43 Joseph A. Hastreiter, 68, of 3918 Ellis St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Very Rev. Clement P. Kern will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Hastreiter was born Oct. 19, 1901, at Cato, son of the late Frank and Anna Ebert Hastreiter. He married Clara Karkow Sept. 14, 1926, at Manitowoc, where they resided. He retired in 1965, after being employed at Mirro Aluminum Co., Manitowoc for 24 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, two daughters, two brothers, Leo, of Manitowoc, and John of Rome City, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Zipperer, of Manitowoc; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. ANNA HAUCH cemetery #59 Mrs. Peter Hauch, nee Ramminger, passed away at the St. Nicholas hospital at Sheboygan last week Monday evening at 6 o’clock, at the age of 39 years. Her death was due to cancer. She leaves her husband, three children: Alfred, age 13; Marie, 7: Kathleen, 8 months, and her father, Wm. Ramminger; three sisters, Mrs. Peter Scheidt of Cleveland: Mrs. Frank Ernstbrummer, Mrs. Albert Manthey of Sheboygan, and one brother, Nic. Ramminger on the homestead, town of Centerville, where Mrs. Hauch was born. The funeral was held last Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Fidelis church, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. JOSEPH HAUCH cemetery #83 Joseph M. Hauch, 83, of 711 3rd St., Kiel, died Thursday evening at Calumet Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday. He was born June 2, 1889, in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Michael and Anna Stein Hauch. He attended St. Fidelis Catholic School at Spring Valley. Mr. Hauch engaged in farming with his brother, William, in Meeme until 1949 when he moved to Kiel where he continued to make his home with his brother and his wife. He was employed at the A.A. Laun Furniture Co., Kiel, until retirement. He was a World War I veteran. Mr. Hauch was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Kiel, its Holy Name Society and a member of the Kiel Senior Citizens. The brother, William, survives. He was preceded in death by five brothers. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Church with the Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. JOHN SPENCER HAUGHTON cemetery #44 SPENDS EVENING AT THEATRE, DIES UPON RETURN HOME J. Spencer Haughton Dies Suddenly Following Hemorrhage Early This Morning-Was 49 Years of Age J. Spencer Haughton died suddenly at his home on North Ninth street, early this morning as result of a hemorrhage of the throat which he suffered a few minutes before. His demise was sudden and unexpected as he had been in apparent health and had spent the early evening at a moving picture theatre with his wife. Mr. Haughton had been affected by a cough for several days and a few days ago, according to members of the family, had suffered a small hemorrhage, it being said that pieces of steel had been coughed up by the decedent who was employed as a lather and in the habit of holding nails in his mouth while at work. He had not complained of illness, however, and had not considered the hemorrhage as serious. Decedent was 49 years of age, have been born at Trempel, this state, May 13, 1867. He had resided here for twenty five years. Besides a widow Mr. Haughton is survived by two sons, Richard and Harry, and one daughter, Harriet. A brother, Louis, Juneau, and a sister, Harriet, at Adams, also survive. All that was mortal of the late Arthur Haukohl was tenderly lowered into the grave at Evergreen this after noon (sic), following funeral services conducted by Rev. Grether at the home on Jay street. The casket was banked in innumerable tributes of beautiful flowers and a large concourse of friends gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of the dead. CHARLES HAUKOHL cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 07 Sept. 1893: Death of another old settler of Manitowoc as Carl Haukohl closed his eyes Sat. morning. The deceased, who was well known to our readers in the city and county of Manitowoc, was born 11 Nov. 1822 in Plau, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. His father died shortly before Carl's birth, so his mother married again only to die a few years later. Then his stepfather remarried, so the young man was literally raised by strangers. At age 24, Carl married Dorothea Schultz, daughter of Fritz Schultz. On 07 July 1852 he arrived in New York with his family and traveled to Milwaukee, arriving in Manitowoc on 01 Aug. 1852. He suffered a stroke several years ago, followed by an attack of pneumonia, and had grown weaker and weaker ever since. He is survived by his widow and 3 sons. The funeral was held Tues. afternoon among an extraordinarily large number of mourners at the city cemetery. Mr. Wittmann delivered the funeral oration. FRED HAUKOHL cemetery #44 In Manitowoc the City Treasurer Fred. Haukohl committed suicide on Wednesday by shooting himself. His was due to the fact that he had used money belonging to the city in his own business and could not produce it when he was asked for it. An audit of the books showed that he owes the city $1,617.00. His relatives deposited $2,000 at once to cover the deficit. An examination showed that his Shoe business had an inventory worth about $7,000.00, and accounts receivable amounting to $2,000.00 so he could have easily covered the amount. AGON A. HAUPT cemetery #44 Agon Haupt Is Dead at 62 MANITOWOC — Agon Haupt, 62, of Rt. 4, local businessman, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital of a coronary attack. Mr. Haupt, a native of the Town of Liberty, was born July 11, 1903, son of the late Charles and Emma Rusch Haupt. He married Hertha Pleuss Sept 2, 1925, in the Town of Newton where the couple farmed until 1933 and then moved to Manitowoc. Since 1934 he had resided on Rt. 4, where he operated Haupt Milk Transit Co. He was president of the Warehouse Terminal in the city. He was a member of the Manitowoc - Two Rivers Traffic Club and United Commercial Travelers. He is survived by his wife, two sons, (private), a daughter, (private); two brothers, Erich, of Valders and Ottomar, of Rt 1, Manitowoc; a sister Mrs. Norbert Kieselhorst, of Manitowoc, and eight grandchildren. ALLEN W. HAUPT cemetery #33 Allen William Haupt, 54, of Rt. 3, Tomahawk, Wis., died Monday morning accidently while changing a truck tire. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Tomahawk and at 1 p.m. Thursday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Robert Anderson will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Haupt was born Dec. 18, 1916, at Manitowoc, son of the late August and Bertha Voigt Haupt. He was employed as a bulk tank truck driver for Midland Co-op and had formerly been employed at Eck Foundry Inc., Manitowoc. He married Evelyn Rosso Oct. 11, 1941, at Newton. He resided in Manitowoc until 1965 when moving to Tomahawk. Survivors include his wife, three brothers, Siegfried of Rt. 3, Manitowoc, and Erhardt and Hilbert, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Edwin Krueger, of Rt. 3, Manitowoc and nieces and nephews. ARLENE A. HAUPT cemetery #43 Arlene A. Haupt, age 82, of Shawano, went to her heavenly home on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Birch Hill Nursing Home, Shawano, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer and heart complication. She was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Manitowoc. Arlene was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1943. On Feb. 12, 1947, she married Roy A. Haupt. Arlene was employed in Manitowoc and Shawano, as an LPN for many years. She was a member of the Haupt Cousins Red Hatters and also loved to knit and crochet for her family and friends. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Dan Felton with entombment of the cremated remains at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc, at a later date. CHARLES HAUPT cemetery #40 Charles Haupt, 83, retired town of Liberty farmer, died Friday afternoon at the homestead farm, now operated by his son, Erich, following a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Liberty. The Rev. Samuel Kuglor will officiate and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Haupt was born in Newton in 1869 and when a young man moved to Liberty. In 1902 he married Miss Emma Rusch. She died in 1924. He was a school district treasurer for 18 years in Liberty and also served 20 years as treasurer of the Baryenbruch Telephone Company. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Norbert Kieselhorst of Manitowoc; three sons, Erich on the home farm, Rt. 1, Valders, Agon of Manitowoc Rapids and Ottomar of Newton and eight grandchildren. The deceased, a daughter of Mr. John Meyer, was in her 39th year and has been married for 19 yrs. She is survived by her husband and 5 children, the youngest being 1-1/2 yrs. old. ELMER A. HAUPT cemetery #44 Elmer A. (Shorty) Haupt, 82, formerly of 1010 Division St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Norval W. Kock will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Haupt ws born April 15, 1891, at Manitowoc, son of the late August C. and Elizabeth Schmiedicke Haupt. He attended the rural school, District No. 8, of Newton. He married Clara I. Mahnke July 11, 1917, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. He operated the Haupt Bros. Bowling Alley on Jay Street, Manitowoc, for 23 years in association with his brother, Raymond. He was then manager of the Elk's Club Bowling Alleys for 13 years. Mr. and Mrs. Haupt observed their golden wedding anniversary in July of 1967. He was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Men's Club of the church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth H.; a brother, Raymond and a sister, Mrs. Elsa Kolloth, of Manitowoc, and two grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death. EMMA HAUPT cemetery #40 The people of this community are, greatly shocked over the sudden death of Mrs. Charles Haupt, born Emma Rusch, who passed away Tuesday morning at her home here after a lingering illness. GLENN E. HAUPT cemetery #32 Glenn E. Haupt, age 68, of Manitowoc, died Wednesday afternoon, February 21, 2001, at the family residence surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2001, at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. Rev. Joel Otto will officiate with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88. Glenn was born April 6, 1932, in the Town of Newton, Manitowoc County, son of the late Myron and Hertha Glaeser Haupt. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1950. Glenn served with the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 on the naval ship the U.S.S. Maloy overseas during the Korean War. After the war he returned to Manitowoc where he served as an apprentice tool and dye maker at Mirro Aluminum. He then became employed with Paragon Electric for 20 years and then with Jagemann Stamping where he retired in 1994 holding the position as supervisor of the tool and dye department He married Ruby E. Freis on March 20, 1952, at St. John and St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Cleveland, Wis. She preceded Glenn in death on May 14, 1984. He later married Ione Erickson on September 27, 1986 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. Glenn was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church where he had served as the church Treasurer, elder and also deacon of the church. Glenn also sang with the church's male choir and the mixed choir. Glenn was also involved with the stewardship program of the church. Other memberships include the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88 and the Newton Fire Department where he was volunteer for 25 years and served as an officer of the department. Mrs. Haupt, nee Hertha Glaeser, was born June 30, 1906, in the Town of Liberty, daughter of the late Herman and Matilda Kattreh Glaeser. She was married to Myron Haupt Nov. 14, 1925, at Newtonburg. The couple resided in Newtonburg for 12 years moving to Manitowoc, residing there for 10 years. Mr. Haupt preceded her in death in 1957. She came to Newtonburg, moving back to Manitowoc in 1959. Survivors include two sons, three daughters, two brothers, Edgar and Leonard, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Carl Huebner, of Manitowoc; 19 grandchildren. KENNETH HAUPT cemetery #44 Kenneth Haupt, age 88, a Manitowoc resident, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. Ken was born in Manitowoc on Sept. 27, 1920, son of the late Elmer and Clara (Mahnke) Haupt. He was a 1938 graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. Ken fought with the United States Army in World War II for more than three years, earning a Purple Heart and Cluster, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Ken was married to the former Ruth Zachow at St. James Church in Shawano on Aug. 14, 1948. Following the war, Ken worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier for 34 years. He then finished his working career as a crossing guard at St. Andrews School for five years. Ken came from a family of bowlers, and was a league bowler in Manitowoc for many years. He was a member of Drews- Bleser American Legion Post 88 of Manitowoc, the Disabled American Veterans and First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife: Ruth Haupt, Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren. MARLENE A. HAUPT cemetery #14 Marlene A. Haupt, age 72, town of Mosel resident, died peacefully at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born on Oct. 17, 1935, in Green Grove, the daughter of the late Steve and Adeline (Awe) Konik. Marlene attended Red Arrow School in Hika and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, class of 1953. On Oct. 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Arlie L. Haupt at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland by Pastor Eldon Bode. The couple spent their entire married life residing in Cleveland. For a number of years, Marlene was employed at the Kohler Company and Wigwam Mills. She then went to work at JC Penney department store in Sheboygan, where she worked her way up from the stockroom to running the catalog department. After 17 years with the company, she retired due to disability in 1987. Marlene was a lifelong, devoted member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, where for many years she enjoyed Sunday school teaching. Her involvement in the church was very important to her. Marlene's greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She recently became a proud great-grandparent. She was an enthusiastic member of the Haupt Cousin Red Hat Society of Manitowoc. She liked attending the Men of Harmony concerts, and on her quiet evenings, latch hooking. Travel was another favorite hobby. She and Arlie ventured to Hawaii, Branson, Texas, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Michigan and Tijuana. However, her favorite getaway was closer to home. She loved to stay at her oldest son Tom's cabin in Cayuga. There she would watch for deer and an occasional black bear. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Waiting for Marlene in heaven are her parents; an infant son: David; siblings: Barbara, Steven, Dennis and John Konik; and grandson: Major Schneider. JOSEF HAUPTMANL cemetery #83 Oldest Resident Of City Of New Holstein Is Summoned. New Holstein, Wis. -(Special)- Joseph Hauptmanl, 94, the oldest resident of the city of New Holstein and one of the earliest settlers in this community, passed away this morning at 2 o'clock at his home here. He had been ailing for the past four months, having suffered a light stroke last September. Deceased was born in Tepel, Austria, one September 11, 1847, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Hauptmanl. In 1869, when he was 21 years old, he came to America and located in Kiel where he learned the shoemaker's trade. He was married to Miss Theresa Mueller on July 18, 1870, by the late Rev. Father Oswald, founder of the St. Nazianz college and colony. Mr. Hauptmanl operated a shoestore for 20 years at Meggers, and for 15 years after that operated an 80-acre farm two and a half miles southwest of New Holstein. He then retired and moved to Kiel and for the past nine years had been living with his daughter, Mrs. Anna Martin, at New Holstein. His wife preceded him in death on September 24, 1930. Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Anna Martin of New Holstein; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home at Kiel, where friends may view the body from this evening on, and then will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic church at New Holstein at 9 a.m. The Rev. THERESE HAUPTMANL cemetery #83 Mrs. Joseph Hauptmanl End Comes at Home of Daughter at New Holstein Recently After an illness of some weeks’ duration, Mrs. Joseph Hauptmanl of the city passed away Wednesday, December 24, at 7 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Martin at New Holstein. “A good mother has been called to eternal rest.” Mrs. Hauptmanl had been injured at her home here in a fall on Thanksgiving Day, and when she failed to make a prompt recovery she was taken to the home of her daughter, where better care could be given her. All the best of care that was given her, however, was of no avail, and the end came the day before Christmas. She had reached the age of 82 years. The deceased, nee Theresa Mueller, was born February 11, 1848, in Marienbaden, Germany. When she was 18 years of age, she came alone to this country, coming directly to Marytown, where she was taken in by the Joseph Kobriger and John Heimerl families. On July 18, 1870 she was united in marriage to Joseph Hauptmanl, a resident of Manitowoc county. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Fr. Oschwald at St. Nazianz. The couple made their home in Meggers, where Mr. Hauptmanl established a shoe repair shop. They lived in Meggers for 19 years, from where they moved to a farm near New Holstein, which they conducted for fifteen years. They then left the farm, spent several years at Elkhart Lake, and then moved to New Holstein to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Anna Martin. For the past ten years they had made their home here in Kiel. Of the two children born to the couple, Mrs. Martin alone survives. The other daughter, Lizzie, died Nov. 11, 1885. She is also survived by three grandsons, Harry Martin of New Holstein, Arno Martin of New Holstein, and Norman Martin of Oklahoma, and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hauptmanl was a woman of a helpful and kindly disposition, and a host of friends mourn her passing. Funeral services were held Saturday morning from the SS. Peter and Paul church here, the Rev. Fr. A. Roder performing the last rites. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Henry Rach, Frank Klaeser, John Kautzer, Rud. Wendling, J. B. DELMAR C. HAUSCHULZ cemetery #44 Delmar C. Hauschulz, age 80, a resident of 2440 Paul Road, Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc. Delmar was born on January 11, 1928, in Manitowoc, to the late Alvin and Agnes (Kapitz) Hauschulz. Delmar graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1946. He enlisted with the U.S. Army, 793rd Field Artillery Battalion, A Battery. He trained at Fort McCoy and was stationed in Ansbach, Germany. Upon his return, he worked for Mirro Corporation for 46 years until his retirement in 1993. On May 7, 1955, Delmar married Catherine Bartelme at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Delmar was a past member of the Roncalli Athletic Association, past president of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Traffic Club, and current member of St. Francis of Assisi in Manitowoc. During the last year he has been living on Plank Road. Mr. Haverland was born 27 Sep. 1823 in Germany, came to America in 1854 and settled in Port Jarvis, N.Y. In 1861 he came to Manitowoc and has remained here ever since. He worked here in various jobs. The last few years he operated the guest residence "Central House". EMIELIE HAVERLAND EX-RESIDENT OF CITY WILL BE BURIED HERE Mrs. Emily Haverland, 98, Dies At Sheboygan After Being Injured In Fall Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Haverland, 98 year old former Manitowoc resident who died at Sheboygan on Sunday following injuries she received in a fall there some time ago, will be held at Evergreen cemetery tomorrow afternoon. Mrs. Haverland left Manitowoc in 1904, four years after the death of her husband, Paul Haverland, in this city. Since that time she has been making her home with relatives at Sheboygan. Several days ago the aged woman fell down a stairway and broke her hip, her advanced age and the shock of the injury proving too great a handicap to overcome. She was born in Germany, January 2, 1831 and married Paul Haverland on March 26, 1854. On July 1, 1854, the couple came to this country and for several years made their home in Pennsylvania, later moving to Manitowoc where they resided for many years. She attended St. Luke Parochial School. On May 7, 1927, she married Charles Havlichek in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death January 18, 1976. Loretta was a member of the Ladies of Holy Redeemer, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Royal Neighbors and a former member of the Two Rivers Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, knitting and doing craft work. She also enjoyed singing in the choir of Holy Redeemer Church. In 1886 she was married to Matthew Havlovitz and the couple settled on the Havlovitz homestead farm in the Town of Kossuth which they operated until their retirement in 1917. Eleven years ago they made their home with their son, Joseph. Mr. Havlovitz preceded his wife in death seven years ago. Mrs. Havlovitz was a member of the Altar Society of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Reifs Mills. She is survived by four sons, Joseph, Frank, John and Charles of Reifs Mills; two brothers, Michael Shebesta of Menchalville and Wencel Shebesta of Chippewa Falls; a step-brother, Antone Nechvatal of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Tisler of Manitowoc; and 17 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. For the past five years the family has made their home on a farm near Whitelaw. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Klein and Stangel funeral home in Two Rivers. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was born in Richland, Ind., in 1883 and located, when a young man, in Two Rivers, where he married Miss Mary Swejkar in 1910. They moved to Booneville, Ind., and after a year they returned to Two Rivers where he engaged in the contracting business for 28 years until forced to retire five years ago because of failing health. He purchased a farm in Whitelaw. Surviving are the wife, five daughters, Mrs. Henry Jagodinsky, Mrs. Fidelis Kraftcheck, both of Two Rivers. He had previously been confined for eight weeks following a heart attack at Christmas but had apparently recovered. JOHN HAYDEN (d. 1916) cemetery #55 JOHN HAYDEN IS DEAD AT HOME IN GRIMMS Well Known Farmer of County Dies After Illness of One Week John Hayden, a well known and influential farmer of Grimms, died at his home there last night, a victim of pnenumonia (sic), after an illness of but one week. The funeral will be held at Maple Grove Friday morning. Mr. Hayden was 52 years of age and was one of the best known residents of Grimms, where he had resided for many years. He contracted a cold a week ago and pneumonia developed and for several days his condition had been critical. Besides a widow Mr. Hayden is survived by six children, Thomas, Bessie, Etta, Ruth, Blanche and Charles. A week previous to his death he contracted a cold which later developed into pneumonia. On Tuesday evening at 10:45, with all the members of his family present at his beside, his life's work was finished. The end came very peacefully. Mr. Hayden was born in the town of Franklin in the year 1867 and was 4? years of age. At the age of 27 he was married to Ellen Fenton who together with a family of six children survive him. He conducted a farm in Franklin for a number of years when later he moved to Green Bay where he engaged in business. About nineteen years ago he came to Grimms where he engaged in farming and had resided here continously ever since. Mr. Hayden's success in life was due to perseverance and hard work. This is plainly shown by the beautiful home and excellent set of farm buildings erected on his farm during the past two years, equipped with every ???? ??? convenience. Although death ???? took him in the prime of life at a time when he was able to enjoy those years of toil and labor his work is indeed a credit to any community. In the passing of John Hayden this vicinity loses one of its most respected citizens, a good neighbor, always willing to help a friend, a kind and indulgent father, an ideal man in every respect. His popularity and apprec- iation for his deeds was shown by the beatiful (sic) floral designs and the concourse of people who assembled at his residence to offer assistance and sympathy to his family. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his untimely departure, the children being Thomas, Bessie, Ella, Ruth, Blanche and Charles. Besides these ???? he is survived by one brother, Pat Hayden, of Milwaukee, and four sisters, Mrs. James Cleary, Mrs. Pat Roland and Mrs. M. Evans of Green Bay and Mrs. Charles Muench of Kellnersville. The funeral was held on Friday morning from St. Patrick's church, Maple Grove. Rev. George Casey, pastor of the church, celebrated solemn high mass of requiem, assisted by Rev. Father Brown of Kellnersville and Rev. Father Koefer of Morrison. The Holy Name society and Catholic Order of Foresters, consisting of 200 men, attended. The pall bearers where Hugh Halloran, M.H. Connell, Mike Buckley, F.J. Scanlon, Peter J. THOMAS HAYDEN cemetery #43 Thomas H. Hayden, 84, of 314 Riverview Dr., Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Duane Dionne will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Hayden was born Dec. 6, 1887, in the Town of Franklin, son of the late John and Ellen Fenlon Hayden. He married Elizabeth Kirby Nov. 4, 1914, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maple Grove. He farmed in the Town of Cato until 1947 and then moved to Manitowoc where he was employed as an engineer at Normington's Laundry, Manitowoc until his retirement in 1958. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his wife, two sons, William, of Stetsonville and John, of New York; four daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Hopora) Dvorak and Mrs. Jerome (Mary) Egbert, of Cato, Mrs. John (Betty) Kelly and Mrs. Donald (Kathleen) Young, of Milwaukee; a brother, Charles, of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Bessy Rolland, of Reedsville, Mrs. Etta Henning and Miss Blanch Hayden, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Edward Lorrigan, of Chicago; 35 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. ANGUS L. HAYES cemetery #43 Angus L. Hayes, 72, of 905 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a coronary attack. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Thaddeus J. Koszarek will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Hayes was born June 25, 1900, at Antigo, son of the late James and Agnes McKinnon Hayes. He married Viola Bonnell June 30, 1925, at Antigo. The couple moved to Manitowoc in 1929. Prior to his retirement in 1965 he had been employed at the Great A & P Tea Co. Inc., National Dairy Division, Manitowoc, for 20 years. Mr. Hayes was a member of Holy Name Society of St. Mary Catholic Church. Hayes, one of the pioneer residents of Meeme, having made her home there for 60 years, died there early today, death being due to paralysis which she suffered Thursday. The funeral will be held from St. Isadore's church at Meeme Wednesday morning at 9:30. Mrs. Hayes was 78 years of age and was widely known and respected in the community in which she resided. THOMAS HAYES (d. 1917) cemetery #89B DEATH CLAIMS THOMAS HAYES AT TWO RIVERS One of Oldest Residents of City Dies Suddenly in Chair Thomas Hayes, one of the oldest residents of Two Rivers, died suddenly while seated in a chair at his home, death being due to heart failure and coming without pain. The funeral was held today. Mr. Hayes was 84 years of age and located at Two Rivers in 1857, residing there until 1880 when the family removed to Minnesota. In 1902 Mr. Hayes returned to Two Rivers and had since resided there. Mr. Hayes is survived by a widow, one son and two daughters. THOMAS L. HAYES (d. 1878) cemetery #89B From Der Nord Westen, 28 Nov. 1878: Death of Thos. Hayes, about 24 years old, in an industrial accident last Sat. in the Two Rivers furniture factory. He was oiling the machinery and somehow was drawn into it and had both legs and one arm broken. He died two hours later.

ELDORA V. HAYNER cemetery #82 Eldora Hayner, 80, 215 E. River Terrace, Kiel, died Thursday morning at her home. She had been in ill health for the past several months. The former Eldora Schubert was born June 7, 1903, at Kiel, the daughter of the late Fred and Emma Harbreckt Schubert. A 1921 graduate of Kiel High School, she married Edwin Hayner on October 26, 1925, in Sheboygan. The couple resided here until 1933, when they moved to Kiel. Mrs. Hayner was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, and its Women’s Guild Society. She also was a member of the GUG Germania Society and American Legion Auxiliary and served as vice president of the Kiel Library Board for the past 36 years. A member of the Kiel election board for 33 years, Mrs. Hayner served for 55 years as a home service representative of the Manitowoc County Red Cross. She also was chairman of the Kiel Blood Bank for several years. Survivors are her husband, two daughters (private), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. ARTHUR E. HAYNES cemetery #44 FROM CHAPTER 6 OF RALPH PLUMB’S BOOK: The schooner Joseph Duval shared the same fate at the same place in July, 1880, while en route from Kewaunee to Chicago with 140 cords of bark, seven were drowned and the vessel which had been built by Rand & Burger in 1875 at a cost of $7,000 proved a total loss. In a terrible storm on October 16, of the same year the Goodrich steamer Alpena went down on the east shore, carrying seventy-five passengers and a crew of twenty-six to a watery grave. Arthur Haines, the clerk and William Shepard, the steward, were both Manitowoc young men and their death cast a gloom over the city.

ELLA HAYWARD MRS. HAYWARD PASSES SUNDAY Succumbs At Home After a Lingering Illness Mrs. Claude Hayward, 66, died Sunday morning at her home, 630 South 26th street, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Born in Indiana Mrs. Hayward, nee Ella Nott, was born in Columbia City, Indiana, January 27, 1869. She came to Manitowoc in 1900 and has made her home here ever since. In 1892 she was married to Claude Hayward, who survives her. Mrs. Hayward was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the Riverview Presby- terian chapel. Survivors besides the widower include three daughters, Mrs. W. F. Kugler, LaOtto, Indiana; Mrs. Leo Fritz of Sheboygan and Mrs. Gilbert Schmalfeldt, Manitowoc; a son, Raymond of Manitowoc; a brother, Frank Nott of Columbia City, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. John Gardner of Elkhart, Ind. and Mrs. Rose Cline, Avilla, Ind., and five grandchildren.
