CARL GEORG GROSS cemetery #82 Last week Wednesday evening at 6 PM, Mr. Carl Georg Gross died of old age at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Beck from here, where he had been cared for the past three weeks. The deceased was born on April 5, 1843 in Richthausen, Thurangia, Gemany and came to America in 1872, first settling in Town Meeme and then later in Town Schleswig on the Plank Road. From the family of eight children, three have passed away He reached the age of 74 years and 24 days, leaving behind his wife, five daughters and 20 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The burial took place on Saturday at the Kiel Cemetery with Pastor Rech officiating. 1917 {translated from German by N. Zimmermann}

PAUL GROSSHUESCH cemetery #73 Paul S. Grosshuesch, age 89, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Paul was born July 31, 1915, son of the late William and Ella Dill Grosshuesch, in the Town of Newton of Manitowoc County. He attended Manitowoc County Public Schools and was confirmed by the Rev. Robert Klaudt at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church in April 1930. He married the former Kathryn Schmitz on Oct. 19, 1940, and together they farmed the Grosshuesch Homestead in Newton. In 1968, he bought an insurance agency, which he operated until 1991. In 1972, his wife Kathryn died, and on July 20, 1974, he married the former Erma Peck Steffen at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. They continued to live on the Grosshuesch farm until 1977 when they moved to Sheboygan. Paul was a lifelong member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church. He was a consistory member, serving as deacon and elder for 29 years and a member of the church choir for 61 years. He was active in local community affairs as a member of the Newton Fire Department for 15 years and the local District #9 School Board for several terms. Paul is survived by two daughters, one son, one step-daughter, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma; one brother, Calvin; two sisters, Esther Voss and Dolores Specht. (No newspaper named, no date/from findagrave) (Survivors edited for privacy)


AUGUST GROSSTUECK cemetery #44 EXTRA! CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES THIS AFTERNOON August Grossteuck (sic), pioneer resident and a veteran of the civil war, died at his home, Clark and Sixteenth streets, late this afternoon. Mr. Grossteuck was past 80 years of age and had been failing for some time. He recently returned from Michigan where he spent the winter with his daughter. Mr. Groessteuck was well known in the city. GROSSTEUCK (sic), CIVIL WAR VET, WHO DIED YESTERDAY, MADE A CAPTAIN FOR BRAVERY IN 1864 Mr. Grossteuck Served Three Years and Won Distinction August Grossteuck, old settler and war veteran, whose death occurred at his home at Sixteenth and Clark strets (sic), late yesterday, was 80 years of age having been born at Saxe, Germany, Feb. 16, 1834. He came to America at the age of nine and located in Manitowoc in 1858 and had since resided here. Mr. Grossteuck, following the war, conducted a coffee house and summer garden which for years was a landmark of the city. Of late years he had lived a retired life. Mr. Grossteuck achieved distinction in his service for his country, being made a captain by brevet by Governer Fairchild in 1964 in recognition of bravery at Jenkins Ferry. He served with Co. B, Ninth Wisconsin and participated in many engagements, being promoted to sergeant of his company in 1862, a year after his enlistment. Mr. Grossteuck was married here in 1858 to Katherine Kennedy, who preceded him in death sixteen years ago. Three of five children born to the couple survive, being Miss Josephine, this city, August, of Burlington, and Mrs. W. A. Hinkins (sic), of Benton Harbor, Mich. All were here at his death. Funeral services will held (sic) from the late home tomorrow afternoon under auspices of the G.A.R. of which he was a member and the W.R.C., Rev. Axtell will officiate. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Tuesday May 5, 1914 P.5 ********************* DEATH OF AUGUST GROSSTEUCK(sic) LEAVES BUT TWO SURVIVORS OF HIS COMPANY OF 110 IN CIVIL WAR With the burial yesterday of August Grossteuck, the last, but two, of the survivors of a company of 110 recruited in Manitowoc county and sent to the front in 1861 in defense of the Union, is known no more to earth. For a year past Mr. Grossteuck and two comrades, Henry Schmidt and Charles Boll have been the only survivors residing here of Co. B. Ninth Wisconsin, which was one of the Wisconsin regiments which served with distinction in the war of the rebellion and Mr. Grossteuck's death leaves only Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Boll. The latter is an employe of the Wisconsin Pea Canners' Co. A coincident of the death of Mr. Grossteuck remarked upon by his comrades yesterday is the fact that his death occured on the fiftieth anniversary of the day his regiment reached (sic) Little Rock, Ark., after a march of hundreds of miles following the battle at Jenkins Ferry where Mr. Grossteuck's bravery was recognized by Governor Fairfield in making him captain by brevet. Mr. Grossteuck's funeral was under the auspices of the G.A.R. and W.R.C., the members of the former organization officiating as honorary pall bearers, the acting pall bearers being members of Camp Solaman, Sons of Veterans. AUGUST GROSSTUECK cemetery #89D August W. Grosstueck, 83, a resident of North Ridge Care Center, Manitowoc, died Tuesday, September 15, 1987, at North Ridge. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Rev. William Zimmer will officiate and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Grosstueck was born September 11, 1904, at Manitowoc, son of the late Walter and Blanche Roberts Grosstueck. He married Mary Jane Renier on June 19, 1929, at St. Luke Church. He was employed at Mirro Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Citizens. The deceased was born 03 July 1843 in Chicago. She is survived by her husband and 4 grown children. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the city cemetery.


WALTER GROSSTUECK cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 02 Feb. 1905: Death Sat. following a long illness with consumption, of Walter Grossstueck, a son of August Grossstueck here. He contracted the disease while serving in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War. The deceased, who was 28, is survived by his sorrowing father, a widow and 3 children, as well as several sisters. The funeral was held Tues. and he was given the last salute by Company H to which he had belonged since the outbreak of the war.


THERESA GROSZ cemetery #82 Mrs. Theresa Gross(sic) of Kiel passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Herman Lange, in Milwaukee, Thursday morning. Mrs. Gross had been operated on at St. Joseph's hospital about four weeks before for gall stones, and at that time it was discovered that she had a double cancer. She was taken to the home of her daughter, where she passed away. Mrs. Gross, nee Theresa Dittmann, was born in Saxony, Germany, about seventy-three years ago. On reaching womanhood she was married to Carl Gross. Thirty years ago they came to this country and settled at Kiel, where Mrs. Gross has resided ever since. She was an invalid the past few years and confined to her bed for a long time. Several months ago she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. August Weber, at Plymouth, who cared for her until she was removed to the hospital for an operation. Deceased is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Valentine Raeder of Greenbush, Mrs. John Beck of the town of Plymouth, Mrs. Herman Lange of Milwaukee, Mrs. Aug. Weber of Plymouth and Mrs. Oscar Oberreich of Fond du Lac; twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Kiel Saturday afternoon from the Meiselwitz undertaking rooms, with burial in the Kiel cemetery. Rev. W. Rech of the Refomed church officiated. - December 1923


ADELA GROTEGUT cemetery #12 From Der Nord Westen, 04 Oct. 1906: A little girl in the Grotegut family in Town Centerville died Saturday of child cholera and was buried Monday. The child was 1-yr. and 11 mos. old.


ERNST GROTEGUT cemetery #12 Ernst Grotegut, 92, a retired Town of Centerville (Manitowoc County) farmer, died Sunday evening at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. Mr. Grotegut, who had been residing on the home farm on the Lakeshore Road, two miles south of Newton, now operated by his son, Alvin, had been hospital- ized one week. A native of Centerville, he was born Jan. 25, 1873, a son of the late Fred and Louise Sewald Grotegut. He married Mary Dehne, Jan. 25, 1902. Following their marriage the couple operated the above-mentioned Centerville farm. His wife died in December, 1932 Mr. Grotegut was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church in the Town of Newton. Surviving, in addition to the son, Alvin, are another son, Raymond, R. 1, Newton; four daughters, Mrs. Roland Freis (Linda), Kiel, Mrs. Edgar Jacobi (Nelda), R. 1, Newton, and Miss Orma Grotegut and Mrs. Urban Jacoboski (Violet), Manitowoc; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One daughter also preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Salem Church, Newton, with the Rev. Norman Hoeflinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Centerville. March 1965

LUCY R. GROTEGUT cemetery #44 Mrs. Adolph Grotegut, 62, nee Lucy Bahr, died early today at the farm home in Newton. She had been ill several weeks. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the home and at two o'clock from the St. John's Reformed church, Centerville. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Grotegut, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Bahr, was born in Centerville in 1875 and was married to Adolph Grotegut in 1900. They located in Newton. Survivors are the widower; a son, Markus, Rockwood; three daughters, Mrs. Gerhardt Heagler and Mrs. Peter Schmitt, Sheboygan, Leah, Newton; three brothers, Gustave, Milwaukee, Louis and Carl, Cleveland, Wis.; three grandsons. MARIE GROTEGUT cemetery #12 Sheboygan Press: "Mrs. Grotegut Of Cleveland Passes Away Wednesday", 29 Dec 1932 Mrs. Ernst Grotegut, who was stricken with apoplexy on Friday night, died at her home at Cleveland, Route 3, at 11 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Grotegut, nee Marie Dehne, was born in Town Centerville, on February 2, 1877 and lived there practically all her life. Her marriage to Ernst Grotegut took place January 25, 1902. Survivors are: her husband, four daughters, and two sons, three grandchildren, five brothers, Carl Dehne, Town Centerville; Henry Dehne, Medford; William and Ed. Dehne of Colby and Peter Dehne, Town Newton; five sisters, Mrs. Hrman Monk and Mrs. August Hintz of Centerville, Mrs. William Stock of Newton, Mrs. Irvin Gabsch, Sheboygan and Mrs. Arthur Gabsch, Centerville. MARKUS A. GROTEGUT cemetery #44 Markus A. Grotegut, 68, of Rt. 1, Newton, died Wednesday evening at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John-St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cleveland. The Rev. Henry Koch will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Grotegut was born March 23, 1904, in the Town of Centerville, son of the late Adolph and Lucy Bahr Grotegut. He married Adela Schuette Oct. 12, 1935, at Cleveland. They farmed in the Town of Newton for more than 30 years, retiring three years ago. CARL GROTH cemetery #70 BEYOND THE SIGHING AND WEEPING A bright life that had fulfilled its brief mission of usefulness was terminated in young manhood early this morning, when Charles Groth, a well known teacher of the county, died at his home in the town of Newton. He suffered from consumption and had been ailing for nearly a year, but only during the past three weeks had the seriousness of his condition become evident. The closing days of his earthly career were marked by intense suffering that made the presence of Death a welcome visitation. Deceased was born in Germany in 1867, and had attained the age of 33 years when called to respond to the last summons. He came to Manitowoc county with his parents in 1869 and of recent years had been one of the successful teachers of the county, having been engaged at Centerville, Liberty and Newton. He was a scholarly man and deeply interested in his chosen profession, for the advancement of which he had lent his best efforts. A wife and two children, with mother and sisters and brothers survive him. One brother Henry Groth is employed at the German-American bank in this city. The funeral will be held Tuesday from the late home in Newton. Mrs. Groth had always enjoyed good health until she fell ill with typhus a short time ago. After her illness her doctor advised the trip to Calif. MARY GROTHERR cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 14 May 1891: Death on Sun., 10 May, after a long illness with pneumonia, of Miss Mary Grotherr, at the age of 21 yrs. 3 mos. The deceased was born in Manitowoc and her father is the teacher Mr. Grotherr. She was buried yesterday afternoon in the city cemetery.


FRANK T. GROTT cemetery #13 Frank T. Grott, 83, former chief of police at Kiel and a tavern-keeper at Cleveland for 20 years, died Sunday at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born Dec. 11, 1878, in Germany and at the age of 15 moved with his family to the United States, settling in Oshkosh. On Aug. 28, 1906, he was married to Emily Klauck. The couple lived in Kiel where Mr. Grott served as chief of police for 18 years. They moved to Cleveland in 1932 and he operated a tavern there for 20 years. Mrs. Grott died in 1947. For the past several years Mr. Grott lived with his son, Sylvester, in Sheboygan. Mr. Grott was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sheboygan, and the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Wisconsin Chief of Police Association for 35 years. Surviving are two sons, Sylvester, Sheboygan, and Francis, New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Agnes) Johannes, Rock Island, Ill, and 14 grandchildren. A son, a brother and three sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel, Cleveland, and at 10 o’clock at St. Wendel’s Catholic Church, Cleveland, with the Rev. Leo Ott, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday. GEORGE D. GRUBE cemetery #82 George D. Grube, 69, of 18705 Mueller Rd., died unexpectedly at his home of an apparent heart attack on Thursday evening, Nov. 4, 1993. He was born Oct. 29, 1924 in Sheboygan, son of the late George Sr. and Esther Guenther Grube. He was a 1943 graduate of Kiel High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, serving in the South Pacific. He was wounded and discharged in 1945. On July 20, 1946 he married Vivian Ehnert at First Presbyterian Church, Kiel. He was employed at Tecumseh Products Company, New Holstein, for 14 years. He founded La-Tec Credit Union in 1962 and served as treasurer and manager until 1975. He was in sales for Bullock and Best Built Garages, retiring in 1990. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, where he served as an elder; Sheboygan VFW/Wolf Olson Post #1230; life member of DAV Manitowoc Chapter 15; Tecumseh Wednesday Golf League; and the Monday Morning Heartland Golf League, Howards Grove. JOHN C. GRUBE cemetery #82 John Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Grube, Jr. died on Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The child was born Jan. 12, 1947, at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan. The child is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ehnert of this city and Mr. and Mrs. George Grube, Sr. Funeral services were held at Meiselwitz Funeral home on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Ernest Nelson officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ryan and family of Rockford, Ill. arrived on Tuesday evening to attend the last rites. No newspaper named, 1947


KENNETH H. GRUBE cemetery #82 Kenneth H. Grube, 56, of 1123 Seventy St., Kiel, died this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital where he’d been a patient for six days. Mr. Grube was born July 5, 1930, in Sheboygan County, a son of the late George and Esther Guenther Grube. He graduated from Kiel High School and served with the US Air Force from 1950 to 1953. On June 25, 1955, he married Lois Stewart at First Presbyterian Church at Kiel. Mr. Grube worked as a truck driver with LCL Transit Co. until 1980, and also had owned and operated an upholstery shop at Kiel. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6707 of Kiel, and the Kiel Redmen. He was preceded in death by one brother. HELEN GRUBER cemetery #29 Mrs. Helen Gruber, 84, of 715 N. Fifth St., Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melnik Presbyterian Church, Melnik. The Rev. Greg Meyer will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gruber, nee Helen Kubicek, was born Feb. 24, 1892, at Elma, Iowa, daughter of the late Stephen and Marie Bilik Kubicek. She was a member of the Melnik Presbyterian Church and Martha Society of the church and devotedly served the church in many ways after the death of her husband, the Rev. Joseph Teply in 1928. The couple had been married in 1917. She married Joseph Gruber April 12, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1948. Survivors include two sons, Lester Teply, of Larchmont, N.Y., and Wesley Teply, of Manitowoc; a daughter, Mrs. Karl (Helen) Kaap, of Viroqua, Wis.; a step-son, Arnold Gruber, of Shawano, five brothers, Edward, William, Wesley, Milton and Carl and a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) Shock, of Iowa, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two brothers, three sisters, two step-sons and a grandson preceded her in death. JOHN GRUENAGEL (d. 1919) cemetery #90 J. GRUENAGEL, TOWN HERMAN, HANGS SELF John Gruenagel, 69, who lived with his daughter, Mrs. Louis Strassburger on a farm in Town Herman, committed suicide during the night by hanging himself with a rope in the barn. He was found at 7:30 a.m. today by his daughter. Coroner William Van Zanten visited the scene this morning and ascertained that for some time Mr. Gruenagel had been despondent and had several times threatened to end his life. He was last seen by his granddaughter, Miss Edna Strassburger, at midnight, when he arose. He was in a habit of getting up several time during the night, however so, no suicidal intent was suspected. When he was absent from his bed this morning, Mrs. Strassburger became alarmed and instituted a search. She found him hanging in the barn. Sheboygan Press, July 10, 1919

Her father operated a flour and saw mill at Rockville. Nee Victoria Stoll, she was united in marriage with William Gruhle, Manitowoc, on June 22,1890, and immediately following the marriage the couple located on the Stoll homestead farm at Rockville. They moved to Kiel in June 1944. On June 22, 1940, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Survivors include, in addition to Atty. Arthur Gruhle, her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Ella) Roehr and Mrs. John (Olivia) Burmahln, both of Kiel, five grandchildren and one great grand- child. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. R.E. Dreger, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will be in the family lot at Rockville cemetery. Friends may view the body at the funeral home from Sunday after- noon until the hour of services. ********** Dora is the sister of Herman in the following article. Herman C. Stoll has been identified with the business interests of Kiel for eighteen years, as local representative of the K. Schreier Brewing Company. He has passed his entire life in Manitowoc county, and is a native of Schleswig township, his birth having occurred there on the 25th of February, 1870. His father, Henry Stoll, was born in Saxe-Gotha, Germany, whence he emigrated with his parents, Fred and Martha (Keppler) Stoll, in 1849, to the United States. They first located in Pennsylvania, where the father engaged in farming. Later they removed to Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, and he continued his agricultural pursuits in Meeme township. He subsequently withdrew from farming, however, and purchased a sawmill at Rockville, this state, which he operated under the name of Stoll & Son until his death. He was one of the pioneers of Manitowoc county, and lived to attain the venerable age of eighty years. Henry Stoll, who is now living retired in Holstein, Calumet county, this state, at the age of seventy years, was only a child when he accompanied his parents to America. Upon attaining manhood he engaged in the lumber and milling business in Wisconsin, meeting with very good success in the development of his interests. For his wife he chose Miss Wilhelmina Wagner, a daughter of Fred Wagner, one of the pioneer settlers of Sheboygan county. The mother is now deceased, having passed away in 1895, at the age of fifty-one years. JOHN GRUMAN cemetery #89B Illness which the infirmities of age could not withstand, caused the death of John Grumann(sic) of this city Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Hess, Cavour, Wis., where he was spending the winter. Deceased, a native of Witte, Silesia, Germany, where he was born 85 years ago, was a resident of this city since 1872 when he came from overseas with his wife who preceded him in death nine years. He entered the German Army as a young man, and was called to fight in two wars, one between Austria and Germany and the other with France in 1870. After the war he and his family, consisting of his wife and two children, came to America. Mr. Grumann leaves his daughter, Mrs. Mary Hess of Cavour and six sons; Fred of Cavour, Ed, William, and Albert of Leona, John of Milwaukee, and Stephen of this city. The body was brought to this city for interment at Calvary cemetery and rested at the home of his son, Stephen from where the funeral was held on Wednesday morning with services at St. Luke’s church. Funeral Saturday Funeral services will be held from the home at two o’clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. W. G. Haase of St. John’s Lutheran church officiating. The remains can be viewed at the funeral home of Beduhn & Goetz on Thursday from where the body will be removed to the home Friday. Burial will be at Pioneer’s Rest cemetery. Mrs. Grumann, nee Augusta Ohm, was born November 6, 1848 in Rheinsburg, province of Brandenburg, Germany, and in 1890, immigrated to this country and settled in this city. Nine years ago the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago. Three Children Survive Mrs. Grumann is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Stehle and Mrs. Ed. Lahey, both of this city, and son, Julius Grumann, also of this city. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Emma Ulrich, this city, and Miss Minnie Grumann, of Rheinsburg, Germany. There are also 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In 1928, the family left Two Rivers to engage in farming at Cavour, Wis., and returned in 1947. Her husband died at Two Rivers in 1954. DORIS M. GRUMANN cemetery #89D Doris M. Grumann, age 78, of Two Rivers died Friday morning, June 18, 2004, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2004, at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, St. Luke Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O’Brien with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Doris was born May 15, 1926 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Landt) Stipek. She was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1944. On August 23, 1947, Doris married James Grumann at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The couple owned and operated Two Rivers Tool & Specialty, Inc. for many years until their retirement. Doris was involved with her husband in the Two Rivers Kiwanis and was a member of the Two Rivers Ladies Elks Club. Doris was also a member of the Ladies of St. Luke. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts for many years as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Doris was a member of the class reunion committee for the Washington High School c1ass of 1944. She was a member of the Manitowoc County Committee on Aging and scheduled and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Doris was a member of the “Clubbers,” a special group of longtime friends. JULIUS GRUMANN (d. 1928) cemetery #89A Julius Grumann, aged 84, committed suicide Saturday. His mind was affected by long illness coupled with the weaknesses inevitable with old age. The venerable gentleman hung himself in the barn on the premises of his son, Julian Grumann, Jr., with whom he made his home, 2110 Monroe St. The body was found by members of the family who went in search of the deceased when they noticed his unusually long absence. Mr. Grumann has been a resident here for the past twenty-eight years. He was a native of Germany and was long employed in the manufacturing industries here. He is survived by his widow, one son Julius and two daughters, Mrs. William Stehle and Mrs. Edward Lahey. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with interment at Pioneer’s Rest. MARIA GRUMANN cemetery #89B Mrs. John Grumann, Sr., of Two Rivers who with her husband went to Cavour, a few weeks ago to visit with their daughter, Mrs. Frank Hess, died at that place on Friday after suffering a short time with pneumonia. The deceased whose maiden name was Mary Koenig, was born at Wette, Silesian Province, Germany in 1846. She came to this country with her husband in 1869 and after residing in Two Rivers for about three years, the couple moved on to a farm just north of that city where they resided until a few years ago. Mrs. Gruman who had been in good health became ill with pneumonia and one week later an attack of heart failure caused her death. Deceased has resided in this city since 1871 when she came here with husband from Ober-Schlesingen (hard to read), Germany, where she was born in 1835. They resided on a farm on the northern boundary of the city and accumulated a goodly estate, Mrs. Grumann proving a valuable helpmate to her husband, who survives in raising a fine family of sturdy young men and women. She leaves besides seven children, one daughter Mrs. Frank Hess and six sons John, Edward, Albert, Steven, Fred and Wm. Decedent is also survived by two brothers, Jos. Koenig of this city and John Koenig of Seattle and five sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Blum of Mishicot, Mrs. Bertha Weber of Cincinnati, Mrs. Lena Freye of Antigo, and Mrs. Anna Pries and Mrs. Theresa Hartel of this city. STEPHEN GRUMANN cemetery #89D Steven Grumann, 96, of Route 1, Two Rivers, died early Friday morning in Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, and 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Don Becker will officiate and burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Grumann was born April 4, 1882, in Two Rivers, son of the late John and Maria Koenig Grumann. He attended St. Luke School, Two Rivers. In 1897, at the age of 15, he was the fifth person hired, to be trained as an Engraver, in the Koenig Aluminum Co., now Mirro Aluminum Co. He married Leona Simonis in 1918 [1908], in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death in 1951. He married Frieda Dauses in 1956 and she preceded him in death in 1959. Mr. Grumann opened a small machine shop in 1913, known as the Two Rivers Tool and Specialty Shop, located at 2200 26th St. In 1932 he operated it full time. Mr. Grumann was one of the last charter members surviving in the Knights of Columbus, Two Rivers. He was a member of the Golden Agers, now the Senior Citizens, and also a member of the Sangerbund and Meister Singers. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Hazel of Florida, William and Agnes, and James and Doris of Two Rivers; two daughters, Marie and Russell Goedjen of Route 1, Two Rivers, and Gertrude and Lester Zich of Two Rivers, 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. FRANK L. GRUN (d. 1931) INJURIES ARE FATAL TO MAN Frank Grun, 59, Dies at The Hospital Internal injuries which developed as the result of an automobile accident Sunday night took the life of Frank Grun, 59, early this afternoon. He was not believed injured at the time of the accident, going to the Mueller hotel at Kellnersville, where he had been making his home. Complications began to develop and he was removed to the Holy Family hospital Wednesday night. He died there this afternoon. The deceased was born in Kewaunee county on December 16, 1872. He left this state a number of years ago and after spending several years in the West, returned to Manitowoc, about 14 years ago, where he made his home with his mother, Mrs. Frank Grun, Sr., until her death in April. Since that time he had been making his home at the Mueller hotel at Kellnersville, where he was employed. Surviving him are two brothers, William of this city, and John of Kenosha; two sisters, Mrs. A.L. Thompson, Kenosha, and Mrs. Albert Gram also of Kenosha. Funeral services will be held from the Urbanek, Wattawa and Schlei chapel on Saturday afternoon at 3:30, the Rev. Charles Bukley officiating. FRANZ GRUN cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 24 Jan. 1895 Death on Thurs., after a long and difficult illness, of Mr. Frank Grun, a well known resident of our city. Mr. Grun was born in Posen and came with his parents to America as a small child in 1842, settling in Manitowoc Co. Later he moved to Carlton, Kewaunee Co. At age 19 he joined the Union Army and served 3 yrs. 7 mos. After the war he returned to Manitowoc, married in 1866, and worked here ever since. GRACE GRUNWALD cemetery #44 Mrs. Arthur Grunwald, 58, of 1812-11th St., Two Rivers, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at home early Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Klein and Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, the Rev. George Beth officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Grunwald, nee Grace Galbraith, was born July 27, 1905, at Manitowoc, daughter of Archie and Anna Bohman Galbraith. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School at Manitowoc and was graduated from Manitowoc High School with the class of 1923. She was married at Sacred Heart Church, Manitowoc, to Arthur Grunwald of Two Rivers June 2, 1936. She was a member of St. Mark Altar Society. For a number of yers she had been employed as a cost clerk at Mirro Aluminum Co. Besides her husband she leaves a daughter; a son (Survivors omitted for privacy.); four sisters, Mrs. Caroline Delsman, Mrs. Earl Parworth, Mrs. Erle Young and Miss Margaret, of Manitowoc; and a brother, Archie, of Hayward, Wis. GRZELCZYK PASSES AWAY AT OSHKOSH Wife Buried This Morning Here, and Funeral of Husband To Be Held Thursday Valentine Grzelczyk, 50, of 2606 Thirteenth street, survived his wife, Agatha, but 42 hours. She passed away here two days ago, and the husband died last night at the Northern hospital at Oshkosh, where he was committed December 28, following a nervous breakdown. Funeral services for Mrs. Grzelczyk were held this morning from the Sacred Heart church and it was announced that funeral services for the husband would take place on Thursday morning from the same church. Both bodies are to be buried along side each other in a lot in Holy Cross cemetery. The remains of Mr. Grzelczyk were returned here from Oshkosh this afternoon Five Children Survive Mr. Grzelczyk was born in Poland, February 14, 1881. Twenty-five years ago he came to this country and settled in Detroit where he was married in 1913 to Agatha Kukils, who was also a native of Poland. Prior to his residnce in this county he was a teacher in one of the rural schools in Poland. Mr. Grzelczyk is survived by four daughters, Helen, Mary, Gladys and Jessie, and one son, Edmund, all at home. Deceased had been in the employ of the Aluminum Goods Mfg. Co. JOHN D. GRZESKOWIAK cemetery #43a John Grzeskowiak, 47, of 924 South 17th street, died Saturday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Leschke funeral home and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary Catholic church, the Rev. John Landowski officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born at Pulaski, Wis., in 1903 and in 1924 married Miss Sophia Stryzewski. They located in this city. He was employed at the Aluminum Goods company and was a member of the Holy Name society, St. Stanislaus Kostka and the Eagles. Survivors are his wife; two daughters (private); eight brothers, Frank of this city; Anthony and Peter of Pulaski, William and Michael of Milwaukee and Lawrence, Stanley and Joseph of West Allis; three sisters, Mary and Helen of Pulaski and Frances of this city; mother, Mrs. Harriet Grzeskowiak of Pulaski. SOPHIA F. GRZESKOWIAK cemetery #43a Mrs. Sophie F. Grzeskowiak, 74, who resided with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Olson of 1715 S. 24th St., Manitowoc, died Friday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Thaddeus J. Koszarek will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Grzeskowiak, nee Sophie Stryzewski, was born Oct. 8, 1899, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Julius and Gertrude Andrastek Stryzewski. She was married to John Grzeskowiak August 16, 1924, at Manitowoc. Her husband preceded her in death in February of 1950. Mrs. Grzeskowiak was a member of the St. Mary Rosary and Altar Society. Survivors include two daughters; a brother, Frank of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Theresa Mueller of Manitowoc and five grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rosary and Altar Society.
