AARON FISCHER cemetery #43 (From the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, Tuesday, November 28, 2000) Aaron C. Fischer, aged 92, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, formerly of River Hills Apartments, died early Monday morning, November 27, 2000, at the center. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2000, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc and 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Camillus Janas O.F.M., with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. He was born February 21, 1908, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late John and Matilda Neuser Fischer. On June 23, 1931, he married the former Margaret Anna Miller at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Aaron was employed with the Manitowoc Seed Company for 20 years and then as custodian for the St. Boniface Catholic Church and School of Manitowoc for 22 years. Aaron was also employed with the Pfeffer Funeral Home for 13 years. He was a past member of the St. Boniface Athletic Club, Catholic Knights, and the Manitowoc Senior Citizens. Aaron was one of the original founders and organizers of the Lakeport Credit Union formerly known as the St. Boniface Credit Union. He served on its Board of Directors for 19 years. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; one son and daughter-in-law; one brother and sister-in-law; one sister, seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Elfrieda and Gerhardt Sickinger; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Hildegarde; and a brother-in-law Wilbur Gresl. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc.


ALBERT FISCHER cemetery #79 Albert Fischer, Head Of Phone Firm, Dies Albert Fischer, 70, for 15 years manager of the Rockland Telephone company, died Friday at 4 p.m., at the home of his son-in-law, Herman Priebe, three miles southeast of Reedsville in the town of Rockland, after a lingering illness. Mr. Fischer served as a constable in Reedsville for 15 years, and for 12 years was school treasurer of District No. 6, Rockland. He was a member of the Reedsville Fire department and was a charter member of the Reedsville Evangelical church. For many years he was a patrolman on old Highway 18. Engaged in the trucking and hauling business, he helped construct all of the trunk highways in the county. Mrs. Fischer died last July. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the home of John Fischer, Reedsville, and at 1:30 at the Reedsville Evangelical church. The Rev. O.A. Hillman will officiate and burial will be in the Evangelical cemetery located one mile southwest of Reedsville. Mr. Fischer was born in Germany, Aug. 6, 1864. When he was 12 years old the family came to the United States. On Dec. 3, 1885, he married Miss Bertha Buss. For 20 years after their marriage they resided on a farm four miles southwest of Reedsville in Rockland. Twenty four years ago they moved to the village. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Herman Priebe, Rockland, a son, John, Reedsville; four brothers, Louis, Reedsville; Robert, Town of Morrison; William, Town of Liberty; and Herman, Crivitz; one sister, Mrs. Albert Reinke, Town of Rantoul, Calumet county; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. AMANDA FISCHER cemetery #44 Mrs. William H. Fischer, 78, of 1012 Marshal St., Manitowoc, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after an illness of three weeks. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Untied Church of Christ, Manitowoc, the Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The former Amanda Lippert was born July 21, 1885, in the Town of Newton, daughter of the late Ernst and Mary Luebke Lippert. At the age of 18 she came to Manitowoc where Oct. 30, 1909, she was married to William H. Fischer. He died in February of 1959. She was a member of the Women's Guild of St. John Church. Surviving Mrs. Fischer is a son, Omer, and a daughter, Mrs. Chester Gustavson, of Manitowoc, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A sister and two brothers preceded her in death. ANNA FISCHER cemetery #7 Mrs. Anna Fischer, wife of Joseph Fischer, a pioneer resident of Whitelaw, died Sunday and the burial was held at Whitelaw today. Mrs. Fischer had resided at Whitelaw for forty years or more. ANTON FISCHER cemetery #47 From Der Nord Westen, 21 Nov. 1901: Death Thurs. morning last week of Anton Fischer, well-known resident of Town Manitowoc Rapids, from a stroke which he suffered the morning before. He was born in Bavaria in 1832 and has been a resident of Town Manitowoc Rapids since 1854. He is survived by his widow and 10 children. The burial had been set for Fri. morning but on that very day his 18-yr. old daughter Franziska followed her father in death. The young lady was a victim of consumption. Both bodies were carried to their last rest on Sat. in the Alverno Cemetery.


AUGUST FISCHER cemetery #14 August W. Fischer, a pioneer resident of the town of Centerville, passed to his reward on Tuesday morning, at the ripe old age of 85 years, death being due to the infirmities of old age. Deceased was a native of Prussia and came to this country when a young man, settling in Manitowoc county about 70 years ago, where he operated a farm. His wife (missing text) towoc county about 60 years ago, four daughters, and two sons, as follows: Mrs. Henry Hingiss near Sheboygan, Mrs. Ad. Hingiss in Kiel, Mrs. Wm. Meyer in Meeme and Mrs. Theresa Goeters in Sheboygan; William Fischer on the old homestead, and August W. Fischer in the town of Centerville. Also 17 grandchildren survive him. The funeral will take place today, Thursday, with services in the Luth. Sachsen church in the town of Centerville, Rev. Ph. Sprengling officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. AUGUSTA FISCHER cemetery #79 Mrs. Louis Fischer, 84, of Reedsville, died Friday morning at Grancare Nursing Hospital, Green Bay. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical United Bretheran Church, Reedsville. The Rev. Merlin Goehring will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Reedsville. The former Augusta Sonnabend was born May 15, 1882, in the Town of Rantoul, Calumet County, daughter of the late Detlef and Augusta Lau Sonnabend. She was married to Louis Fischer in 1901 and the couple operated a cheese factory for 31 years. Mrs. Fischer was active in Zion church and its Women's Society of World Service, serving 20 years as its treasurer. She was also primary superintendent and a teacher for many years in the church Sunday School. Mrs. Fischer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Olivia) Heintz, of Reedsville, a sister, Mrs. William Matznick, of Brillion, three brothers, Carl, of Collins, Theodore, of Brillion and Arthur, of Rt. 1, Reedsville, and nieces and nephews. Three sons, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Friends may call at Reedsville Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Sunday until 10:30 Monday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until time of service. BERTHA FISCHER cemetery #79 FISCHER, Mrs. Albert-Aged 67, died Monday at Reedsville. Born Bertha Buss in Germany 1867, came to Rockland with parents in 1873, married there in 1881 to Albert Fischer and located on farm. Retired to village of Reedsville in 1911. CARL F. FISCHER cemetery #81 Carl Fischer, son of Christ. Fischer of this city, was called by death on Monday morning at the Sheboygan hospital. Death was due to blood poisoning. Mr. Fischer was born 43 years ago in the town of Schleswig. He was unmarried. On Thursday afternoon the funeral services will be held from the home of his parents. Burial will be made in the cemetery in Schleswig, with Rev. F. Friedrichsmeier officiating. - 1925

CLARENCE FISCHER cemetery #47 Clarence J. Fischer, 65, of Rt. 4, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Silver Lake. The Rev. Stanislous Joppe, O. Praem, will officiate with burial in the church cemetry. Mr. Fischer was born Oct. 14, 1910, in Manitowoc County, son of the late John and Milthilda Neuser Fischer. He married Hildegard Braun May 24, 1939, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. He owned and operated the home farm on Rt. 4, Manitowoc, until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of St. Joseph Holy Name Society and Catholic Knights Council 298 of Silver Lake. CLARENCE FISCHER cemetery #79 From Der Nord Westen, 01 Sep. 1904: An extremely unfortunate accident occurred last Thurs. in Town Kossuth. Louis Fischer operates a cheese factory there. The family lives above the factory. On that day, Mrs. Fischer left her 18-mo. old child alone for a moment to help her husband with his work. She heard a terrible cry of fear from the child and returned to the living quarters to find her baby engulfed in flames. It appears that the child had found a pair of her father’s old pants in which he had left matches in the pocket. The child found them, lit them and the clothing was set on fire. The mother put out the flames while the father drove his buggy the 8 miles to Manitowoc seeking help. Before the doctor could reach the place, death had claimed the little child. (Note: The obit indicates it's a girl, but Clarence died on August 25 and that's the "last Thurs" in the obit.)

Up to fifteen years ago he resided at Gibson and then moved to this city taking up his home on Sixteenth and Division Sts. EDWARD F. FISCHER cemetery #82 Edward Frederick Fischer, aged 61, former Manitowoc county board member, died at his home here at 1:45 o'clock Friday morning after an illness of four weeks. He had been in failing health for about six months. Mr. Fischer was born in the town of Schlweswig, Manitowoc county, May 18, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fischer. He attended the district school and lived on this parents farm from 1899 to 1903. He worked as a mason until 1909. On October 26, 1909, he married Olga Luedke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Luedke, and with his father-in-law purchased the Elm Green farm, town Schleswig, where he lived until 1919, moving at that time to this city. He was member of the Manitwoc county board of supervisors from 1923 to 1936. Survivors are his widow, his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Luedke of here; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Beckmann of here, Mrs. Theodore Hake of Colby, Mrs. Hugo Knorr of Madison and Miss Clara Fischer, living in California, and four brothers, Charles of Newton, Oscar, George and Walter, all in California. His parents and two brothers, Louis and Herman, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held this Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. (no newspaper named, 1941)


EMMA FISCHER cemetery #44 Mrs. Emma Fischer, 87, of 1117 S. 13th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday evening at her home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, at 8:30 a.m. Monday and at St. Boniface Catholic church at 9 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Alfred Pritzl. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Fischer was born Emma Herrmann in Manitowoc in 1866. She married the late Anton Fischer in 1890. He died in 1936. She was a member of the St. Ann Altar Society. Surviving are four sons, Anton, Raymond, Arthur and Frederick, all of Manitowoc; a brother, George Herrmann, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Ida Barkhahn, also of Manitowoc, and two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. EMMA H. FISCHER cemetery #82 Kiel—Mrs. Frank Fischer died Sunday evening here. She had already been sick for two years and the last 4 or 5 weeks suffered a great deal. She reached the age of about 35 years and is survived by her husband and 3 children. She will be brought to her resting place on Wednesday. For many years the deceased owned a harness business in the building which is now Christel's Department Store. He left this city about the year 1894, and went direct to Milwaukee. His wife, the former Miss Emma Langjahr passed away in 1893; also two children preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Ida Temke of West Allis, and son, Walter Fischer of Chicago. The couple located at Alverno until 1934 when they moved to Newton. He had been employed as a carpenter by trade and after 1934 was also engaged in farming. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Edwin, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc; and a sister, Mrs. Erna Borgwardt, of Manitowoc. HELEN A. FISCHER cemetery #7 Helen A. Fischer, age 97, formerly of 140 Oak St., Whitelaw, died early on Sunday morning, Jan. 13, 2008, at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center of Manitowoc, where she resided the past seven months. Helen was born on March 28, 1910, in the town of Cato, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late George and Mary (Augustine) Ellermann. She married Richard J. Fischer on June 29, 1937, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1992. Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children, visiting with her grandchildren, sewing, gardening and baking. She was an expert at making yeast dough and loved to share her bakery with family and friends. Helen was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Christian Women. Her sewing skills were put to use as a member of the Mission Ladies of St. Michael. When she was no longer able to drive to church to do this work, she sewed many lap robes in her home that were donated to nursing homes and veterans' homes. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law: Marie (Joseph) Lemberger; and one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Alice (Edward) Skarda and Harold Gerl. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. David Zimmerman, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday. HENRIETTA FISCHER cemetery #14 From Der Nord Westen, 08 Apr. 1897: (From the correspondent in Centerville, 06 Apr.) Death last Fri. in Town Centerville of widow Fischer from a severe burn. She had gone into the smokehouse to check on the fire and her clothing caught fire, burning the old lady so badly that she died several days later. The burial took place Sun. in the Saxen Cemetery.

HENRY FISCHER cemetery #63 Henry Fischer, who owned and operated a tavern at Larrabee for 15 years until ill health forced him to retire two years ago and moved to Mishicot, died at his home this morning. The body is at the Specht funeral home and will be removed to St. Peter Lutheran church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Edward Zell at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Mishicot cemetery. Mr. Fischer was born Nov. 12, 1872, in the town of Gibson, the son of the late Claus and Johanna (Kempfert) Fischer. He operated a farm in the town until he purchased his tavern. He was employed by the county as a road worker for several years. He was a member of the Gibson town board for a few years. He was married to Orilla Mott in 1898, who survives with three brothers, John and William Fischer of Manitowoc and Claude of Kenosha and a half sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kind of Sheboygan. Mrs. Fischer, nee Huldena Moede, was born May 10, 1888, in the Town of Rockland, daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Schlei Moede. She was married to John Fischer Oct. 14, 1909. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Helen) Bubolz, of Rt. 2, Reedsville; two brothers, Richard, of Rt. 2, Reedsville, and Arnold, of Reedsville; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Darling, of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Adolph Busse, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Newton Barrett, of Kiel; four grand- children; seven great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. IGNATZ FISCHER cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 04 June 1903: Death Thurs. last week from old age debility of Washington St. resident Ignatz Fischer. The deceased, who was born 81 yrs. ago in Bierglas, Bohemia, came to America in 1852, settled first in Milwaukee, and then came to Manitowoc in 1855 where he remained, operating a small bakery for many years. His wife preceded him in death many years ago. The funeral took place Sat. at the city cemetery.


JOHANN FISCHER cemetery #17 (From the Obituary Book of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maribel: 3 January 1891, Saturday...edited) Johann Fischer became ill with "grippe" at Christmas time, and died on New Year's Eve. He was born May 19, 1819, in Gross Fredenbeck, Hannover, and baptized there, and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Wulsum in 1834. He emigrated to America in 1858. He was 71 years, 7 months, 12 days.

Johnson Co., to be Brought Here for Burial John Fischer, a former resident of this city, died at Park falls, Wis., early today as result of injuries he sustained Saturday when he was kicked by a horse. The body will be brought here tonight for burial, the funeral being held from W. Frazier’s undertaking rooms. Fischer was formerly employed as a teamster by the J.G. Johnson company of this city and up to four years ago was on the company’s ice wagons. He located at Park Falls where he was barn foreman for the Udell Lumbering company and was injured while at his work. News of the accident reached here Saturday and a cousin, John Fischer, went to Park Falls and will accompany the body here. Fischer is survived by one son who is serving the army. Fischer was well known in the city where he made his home for years. JOHN FISCHER (d. 1954) cemetery #44 Hamlet Founder, Fischer, Is Dead John R. Fischer, 71 of 502 York St. founder of the hamlet of Fischerville in the town of Mishicot and retired cheesemaker and tavern operator, died Thursday at the Holy Family Hospital. He was born in Gibson in 1881 and in 1904 married Miss Anna Kunz. He farmed in the town of Gibson for two years and then took up the short course in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin and learned the cheesemaking trade. He established a cheese factory at the small hamlet west of the village of Mishicot, which later bore his name. He also operated a tavern, general store and blacksmith shop in that community. JOHN FISCHER (d. 1946) cemetery #43 John Fischer, 66, of 626 South 27th street, died last night at his home of a heart ailment following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9:30 at the St. Pauls Catholic church, the Rev. Martin Jaeckels officiating. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Fischer was born in Manitowoc Rapids in 1879 and in 1903 married Miss Mathilda Neuser. He operated a farm until 1939, when he retired and moved to this city. He was a member of the Holy Name society and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Gerhardt Sickinger and Mrs. Wilbur Gresl, both of Whitelaw; three sons, Aaron and Elmer of this city, Clarence of Manitowoc Rapids; three brothers, Anton of this city, Alex of Manitowoc Rapids, and Michael of Newton; and 10 grandchildren. LOUIS FISCHER cemetery #79 Louis Fischer, 69, who was a cheesemaker in the town of Rockland and village of Reedsville for 31 years, died suddenly of a heart attack in Appleton Tuesday afternoon as he was awaiting treatment there. Mr. Fischer, who had been ailing for some time, had driven to the Appleton clinic from their Reedsville home Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after entering the waiting room he was reported to have suffered the attack and died shortly thereafter. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reedsville funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the United Brethran church with the Rev. Merlin Hoeft officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born on his parents farm in the town of Rockland in 1880, Mr. Fischer married the former Augusta Sonnabend in May, 1901. He first operated a cheese factory in Rockland and later at the east end of the village of Reedsville, a total of 31 years in all. He retired after selling the Reedsville factory several years ago. THRESIA FISCHER cemetery #47 From Der Nord Westen, 28 Nov. 1907: Mrs. Therese Fischer here died last week following a stroke. Mrs. Fischer, who formerly lived in Town Newton but who moved to Manitowoc following the death of her husband, had suffered another stroke about a year ago from which she recovered. Week before last she had another stroke from which she died last week. She is survived by an adopted daughter. The funeral was held Friday morning from St. Boniface Church.

WILHELM D. FISCHER cemetery #75 William Fischer, an old settler of the county, died at his home in Rockland at the advanced age of 82 years. He was born in Germany and with his family located at Rockland in 1876. The decedent is survived by his widow, five sons, one daughter, forty nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. WILHELM FISCHER (d. 1949) cemetery #70 William Fischer, 78, a Manitowoc Rapids farmer, was found dead along- side his automobile on the nearby Reinhardt Fischer farm Thursday afternoon. Coroner Theodore Teitgen said the death was caused by a heart attack. The victim had gone to the neighboring farm, Dr. Teitgen said, to deliver some grapes. There was no one home on the farm, Dr. Teitgen said, and apparently Mr. Fischer discovered his flat tire as he turned to leave. As he was pumping the tire he was stricken. When Fischers returned home they discovered the victim dead. Coroner Teitgen and Sheriff Clarence Baryenbruch were called and investigated. Survivors are his two sisters with whom he lived all his life on the farm on which he was born in 1870. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran church in Newtonburg, Rev. Fred Knueppet officiating. WILHELMINE FISCHER cemetery #14 From Der Nord Westen, 09 Oct. 1902: (Item copied from the Sheboygan Zeitung -A report from Cleveland by Carl Wünsch) Sunday last week Mrs. Wilhelmine Fischer, living on the farm of her son Otto, went out in the morning to milk the cow. Somehow the cow lurched toward her and knocked her down. The cow then became terrified and continued to maul her, wounding her severely in the upper body and the face so that she soon died. She was 66. Her husband, Carl Fischer, hung himself 25 yrs. ago. Her funeral was held Mon., 06 Oct.

Fischer Is Buried Here Former Resident of Vicinity Is Stricken At Home In California Mrs. Herman Fischer, aged 85, passed away Wednesday, July 13, at Arcadia, California where she was making her home with her four youngest children, Oscar, George, Walter and Clara. She had been enjoying good health until the day before her death when she suffered a heart attack. The deceased, nee Wilhelmina Ritter, was born in Kirchheim, Germany on October 28, 1847; At the age of three years she came to this country with her parents who settled first in Buffalo, N. Y. December 10, 1886, she was married to Herman Fischer of the town of Mosel, the couple locating in the town of Centerville, where for three yours Mr. Fischer was employed as foreman by his brother, who bought cordwood. In 1869 they purchased a farm in the town of Schleswig. Her husband preceded her in death February 12, 1906. In 1913 she and her youngest children moved to Thorp, and for the past four years they made their home in Arcadia, Calif., where the children are operating a small farm. The following ten children survive: Mrs. Fred, (Pauline) Beckmann, Kiel; Mrs. Theodore (Annie) Hake, Colby; Mrs. Hugo (Rose) Knorr, Madison; Charles of Meeme; Louis of Plymouth; Edward of Kiel; Oscar, George, Walter and Clara in California. There are also 11 grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. The body of the deceased was brought to Kiel for burial, services being held Monday from the Meiselwitz undertaking parlors. Interment was in the Ucker Road cemetery, the Rev. E. L. Worthman conducting the last rites. The Senior Choir of the St. Peter Reformed church sang two songs, "Lass mich geh'n," and "Ich bin ein Gast auf Erden." Pallbearers were William Schultz, Charles Perschke, Herman Ninmer, Otto Kletzien, Gustave Sy, and Edwin Thieleke. July 21, 1932

Born in Pommern, Germany, on August 5, 1860, Mr. Fischer came to America with his parents in 1876. In 1884 he was married to Wilhelmine Schnell, who died in 1924. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Anna Nagel, Mrs. Frieda Lippert, Mrs. Ella Moldenhauer and Mrs, Linda Wehausen, all of Liberty, a son, John, of Liberty, three brothers, Herman of Crivitz, Robert of Morrison and Louis of Reedsville, a sister, Mrs. Minnie Reinke of Calumet county, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. WILLIAM FISCHER (d. 1953) cemetery #14 William August Fischer, 78, died at his home in Cleveland. He was born Sept 10, 1874 in the town of Centerville, Manitowoc County, WI to August and Henrietta Fischer. He married Miss Minnie Born at Saints John and Peter Lutheran Church, Centerville on Jan 29, 1907. The couple operated the Fischer homestead farm in the town of Centerville, a mile west of Cleveland until their retirement in 1944. Since that time they made their home in Cleveland. Mr Fischer was a lifetime member of Saints John and Peter Lutheran Church at Centerville. Survivors are his wife; one son Reuben, on the homestead farm and a sister Mrs William Meyer, Sheboygan. His parents, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death. Burial in Saxon Cemetery. (No newspaper or date named)


WILLIAM H. FISCHER (d. 1959) cemetery #44 William H. Fischer, 73, of 1012 Marshall St., Manitowoc, died early Wednesday morning at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Fischer was born July 6, 1885, son of the late Claus and Emily Raetz Fischer, in the town of Gibson. He came to Manitowoc as a young man where Oct. 30, 1909, he married Amanda Lippert. Before his retirement 25 years ago, he was employed as a custodian in the Manitowoc Public School System. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Chester Gustavson, a son, Omar, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, of Manitowoc. NICOLAUS FISHBACH cemetery #44 Nicolaus Fischbach had a tragic life which seems to stem from his time spent in the war. He enlisted as a private in Company "E", 35th Regiment Wisconsin Infantry in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on December 31, 1863 for a three year period. He was mustered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and paid a $60 bounty. The roll recorded his name as Nicholas Fishback, born in Germany, occupation of farmer, age of 24, blue eyes, brown hair, height 5 ft. 7 in. and fair complexion. Sept. 2, 1864 they listed him as a deserter at St. Charles, Arkansas, but he was actually in a hospital at Memphis, Tennessee and voluntarily returned to duty on Dec. 23, 1864. He is then listed as a deserter on March 2, 1865 at Mobile Point, Alabama. According to his pension files, he walked all the way from Alabama back to Centerville still wearing his uniform. On the 1870 Federal Population Census for the Town of Centerville, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin page 39 (stamped 42) he was enumerated with his brother-in-law's family, Nicolaus Braun, line 4 through 12. They took care of him until he was later committed to the Manitowoc County Insane Asylum for the chronic insane in January of 1885 were he remained till his death on July 3, 1900. HARLAND L. FISHER cemetery #5 Les Fisher Is Stricken at Farm Bureau Meeting VALDERS- H.L. (Les) Fisher, 64, organizational director of the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau and active in farming and dairying in the county for 40 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening. He was attending a Meeme Farm Bureau meeting at Kulen Hall at Edwards, on the Sheboygan County line in Meeme, and had taken a movie projector into the hall preparatory to showing films at a Christmas party of the bureau when he was stricken with a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. The Rev. A.B. Holland will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born in Vernon County Feb. 9, 1890, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher. He attended (photo) schools in that county and enrolled in the agriculture short course at the University of Wisconsin, from which he was graduated in 1913. Locating in Manitowoc County he set up the first farm milk testing association in the vicinity of Valders and in 1915 married Miss Elsie Horstmann of Liberty. He purchased a farm in Liberty, which he operated from 1915 to 1944. In that span he served as a town supervisor, town clerk for many years and also was on the board of the Roselawn School in Liberty. He was a charter member of the county Farm Bureau and in later years was named organizational director, a position he held until his death. He was familiarly known among bureau members as "Les." He was editor and publisher of the Farm Bureau News, in Valders, a monthly publication which went to all county members and also had a weekly radio program over Station WWOC. Fisher was also a member of the Valders Lions Club and the Lutheran Brotherhood. Surviving are his wife of Valders; two sons, Lawrence of Valders and Burdette of Kiel; brother, Perl of Spring Green, Wis.; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Casperson of Viroqua, Wis., Mrs. Velma Phillips of Wauwautosa, Mrs. Iva Clift of Baraboo, Mrs. Esther Smith of Onalaska, Wis., and Mrs. Margaret Simpson of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren. Friends may call at the Berge Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday. The casket will be moved to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday where the body will lie in state until the hour of service. ELSIE FITTING cemetery #44 Elsie Fitting, 71, of 552 Friar Place, Chicago, a former Manitwooc resident, died Saturday evening at American Hospital, Chicago, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with Christian Scientist services, Mrs. Vivian Seymore, reader. Miss Fitting was born May 22, 1889, at Hartford, Washington County, daughter of the late Jacob and Caroline Knaab Fitting. She came to Manitowoc in 1910 and was employed at The Spindler Co. She moved to Chicago in 1931, where she was employed at Marshall Field Department Store. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Herman Diskowski of Manitowoc and Mrs. Arthur Goetz of Hartford and two nieces. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 o'clock this Monday evening. DANIEL M. FITZGERALD cemetery #44 Two Rivers Reporter, Monday, January 9, 1939 NEIGHBOR CITY MERCHANT DEAD Daniel Fitzgerald, 64, Dies on Sunday at Milwaukee Daniel M. Fitzgerald, 64, member of the Fitzgerald Bruder firm, engaged in the confectionery and liquor business in Manitowoc for years, died Sunday morning at the Milwaukee hospital, Milwaukee. He submitted to an operation a week ago Friday. Pneumonia, which developed, caused his death. Although not enjoying good health for several months, Mr. Fitzgerald continued active in the business until shortly before he went to the hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Pfeffer funeral home. The Rev. W.C. Kurtz will officiate. Mr. Fitzgerald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald was born in Kossuth, June 26, 1875. By an unusual coincidence John Bruder, his business partner, was born on that same date in the same township. They were associated as employes and partners for a 40 year span. In 1906 he married Miss Helen Muehlenbruch of Manitowoc city. EUGENE D. FITZGERALD cemetery #43 Eugene D. Fitzgerald, 63, of 1012 N. Sixth St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Charles A. Brooks will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Fitzgerald was born June 12, 1907, at Manitowoc, son of the late Daniel and Helen Muelenbruch Fitzgerald. He married Esther Taddych Sept. 4, 1929, at Manitowoc. He had been employed as personnel and purchasing director of Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 710 and the Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Church. Survivors include include his wife, a brother, William, of Manitowoc and a sister, Mrs. Bob (Doris) Dosen, of Port Edward, Wis.
