OSCAR FICK cemetery #44 KICK OF HORSE PROVES FATAL TO NEWTON MAN Oscar Fick Dies While on Way to Hospital Injuries which he suffered when he was kicked by a horse yesterday, caused the death of Oscar Fick, well known town of Newton farmer early today. Fick died in the ambulance of the Urbanek and Wattawa company while being conveyed from his home to the hospital in this city. Internal hurts caused death. Fick was found by his wife in the stable yesterday morning when she heard groans of the injured man who had been kicked by one of the horses he was caring for and was unable to help himself. She pulled the body from the stable and summoned a physician. It was deemed inadvisable to remove Mr. Fick at the time but this morning arrangements were made to have him brought to the hospital for care, but before the ambulance arrived in the city, death had overtaken the patient. Kicked in Abdomen Mr. Fick was kicked in the abdomen and internal injuries of fatal nature resulted. The horse responsible for the death of its owner had never been considered vicious and it is believed that the animal, annoyed by flies, became restless, and that Mr. Fick in entering or leaving the stall, was unexpectedly the victim of the fatal blow. Was 28 Years Old Born in the town of Newton August 6, 1893, Mr. Fick would have been 28 next Saturday. He had always made his home in Manitowoc county and was one of the progressive young farmers of the community. He is survived by his wife at Newton and by his mother, Mrs. Henry Fick, who makes her home with a daughter in this city. Three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Dorschner, Hamilton street, this city; Mrs. Walter Hoffman of Chicago and Mrs. Edward Sicker of Newton also survive. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Manitowoc Herald News, Tuesday, August 2, 1921 ******** FLIES RESPONSIBLE FOR MAN'S DEATH Manitowoc, Wis., Aud 5. - Flies were the indirect cause of the death of Oscar Fick, town of Newton farmer who was kicked by a horse. Fick had gone into the barn to feed the animal, which had been bothered by flies. While in the stall he was struck in the abdomen by a hind foot of the horse. When he failed to return to the house his wife went to the stables and found her husband groaning and helpless. He was removed to the local hospital and died after suffering 20 hours.
