Eight (sic) Street Home at Aadvanced Age of 84 Mrs. Fehrs Passed Away The death of Mrs. Emma Laure Fehrs, widow of the late Gustave Carl Fehrs, at her home on south Eighth street Saturday evening removed one of the best known pioneer residents of the county, a woman widely known and highly esteemed in the community. Mrs. Fehrs had been in failing health for a year and for several days it was known that death was near. The end came at 10 Saturday evening. Mrs. Fehrs was 84 years of age and had made her home in Manitowoc since 18?3 when, with her husband, she came here from New York. Mrs. Fehrs was a woman of broad charity and her unassuming and kindly benefactions will long be cherished by many who were recipients of her helpfulness. NORMAN R. FEILE cemetery #84 SERGEANT NORMAN R. FEILE IS KILLED IN ACTION The entire community was saddened on Thursday morning of last week to learn that another of its fine young men, Sergeant Norman R. Feile, had been killed in action in Germany on April 9th. The announcement of his death came in a message from the war department to his mother, Mrs. Henry Feile. Sergeant Feile, who was in his 22nd year, was born at Manitowoc on July 1, 1923. He came to Kewaunee with his parents on June 1, 1925 and had been a resident of this community continuously from that time until he entered the military service on March 27, 1943. He graduated from the Kewaunee High School with the Class of 1941 with a very fine scholastic and athletic record and later entered the employ of Frank Hamachek Machine Co., until called into the service of his country. He received his early military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and later was stationed at Fort Collins, Colorado, and at Camp San Luis Obispo, California, before going overseas. His father died on March 3, 1942 and his is survived by his mother, a sister, Mrs. Athinel (Elsie) Raquet of Kiel, and a brother, Major Clarence Feile, with the air forces of the army in Italy. The death of Sergeant Feile again impressed upon the community the tragedy of war and it brought sadness to the hearts of everyone. His friendliness and his modest and unassuming manner won for him the admiration and affection of a host of friends.
