JEFFREY A. DUELLMAN cemetery #33 Jeffrey (Irv) Duellman, 18, of 1209 Division St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Leschke Bergner Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. James DeWitt will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Jeffrey was born July 23, 1953, at Manitowoc son of Jerome and Albertha Osieczanek Duellman. He attended schools in Manitowoc and would have been a senior at Lincoln High School. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) June 26, 1972 AUGUST DUENO (d. 1926) cemetery #44 FORMER FIRE CHIEF A. DUENO PASSES WAS FIRST PAID CHIEF OF CITY FIRE FORCES August Dueno, pioneer resident, civil war veteran and ex-fire chief of the city, passed peacefully on at the family home, 844 North Ninth street, at 7 o'clock this morning after a long illness. Death was due to infirmities incident to old age and came as a relief from long suffering. He had been unconsicious for two days and the end was not unexpected. The death occurred just eleven years to the day after that of a daughter. Mrs. Ida Ward who died at Vancouver, British Columbia. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home under the auspices of Manitwooc Lodge No. 194, I.O.O.F., the Rev. A.R.E. Schreiber officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen. August Dueno was born at Milwaukee September 10, 1847 and had just passed his seventy-ninth birthday. He came to this city with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Dueno as a child years before the Civil war, his father having accepted a position with the ship yards here as engineer, a position which he retained as long as he was able to work. At the age of eighteen Mr. Dueno enlisted for war service and served through the campaign as a member of Co. G, 39th Wisconsin, Capt. Patchen commanding. He escaped without being wounded and after peace was declared returned to Manitowoc to make his home, securing employment as chief engineer at the William Rahr and Sons company and becoming a member of the volunteer fire department where he held the position of engineer. Shortly after his return he was married to Miss Minnie Ernst and five children were born to the couple. His wife died June 22, 1884, and two years later, January 3, 1886 Mr. Dueno was married to Elizabeth Kuecker, the family continuing to make their home here. Nine children were born to the union, all of whom are living. City's First Paid Chief Mr. Dueno's interest and activeness with the volunteer fire department brought its reward in the appointment to the position of chief when the organization was put on a full time, paid basis for some men with volunteers to assist at the larger fires. As chief Mr. Dueno made an invaluble record, holding that post until the (unreadable few words.)-tirely re-organized in 1903 and John H. Kratz brought here as the chief. Mr. Dueno retiring because of advancing age. For a number of years after his retirement Mr. Dueno was at Milwaukee where he remained at the Soldiers Home but he returned here a number of years ago and lived in retirement at his home. His mind was keen and he was thoroughly ????? on local events, remaining interest ?? his final illness. Pioneer Odd Fellow As a young man Mr. Dueno joined Chickerming Lodge No. 55, I.O.O.F. and when the German order, Manitowoc Lodge No. 194 was formed he became a charter member and served as its first secretary. He held other official positions and was one of the best posted men on the work in the city. He held a life membership and was one of the oldest Odd Fellows, in point of membership, in the state. He was also a member of the Horace M. Walker Post G.A.R. and held an honorary life membership with the Otto Oas Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving Mr. Dueno are the widow and eleven children, George of this city and Mrs. Fred Pautsch of Milwaukee by the first marriage, three others having preceded him in death, Edward, Mrs. Emma Marques, of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ida Ward of Vancouver; and William of Chicago, Frank, a marine engineer out of New Orleans, Fred an engineer for the Westinghouse company at Cincinnati, Julius, Chicago; Henry and August, at home; Mrs. Louis Nortemann of this city, Mrs. Herbert Kuentz of Appleton and Marie, a student for nurse at Madison. EDWIN J. DUENO cemetery #44 Edwin Dueno, son of August Dueno, of this city is seriously ill at Casper, Wyo, where he has been for sometime, messages received here yesterday advising relatives of his critical condition. The local lodge of Odd Fellows of which he is a member, has advised the lodge at Casper to do everything possibe for the care of Mr. Dueno. The body will be shipped to this city for burial, funeral announcement to be made later. Mr. Dueno, a son of August Dueno, had been in Wyoming for four years and had been employed there up to a week before his death. He left here five years ago to enter Wales sanatorium and after nearly a year spent there, located in Wyoming upon advice of physicians and was apparently well up to ten days ago. Decedent was born here May 26, 1882, and spent his boyhood in the city. He was a former member of Co. H and a member of Chickerming lodge I.O.O.F., and the Plumbers' union. FRED DUENO cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 03 Mar. 1904: Death Sat. morning of 83-yr. old Friedrich Dueno as a result of a stroke he had suffered several days before. The deceased had come here from Germany 52 yrs. ago. He worked for many years in the local shipyard as a machinist, then later took a position as a night watchman, a post he held until about 5 yrs. ago when he was forced to give it up because of advancing age. He leaves a widow and 8 children. The funeral was held Tues. afternoon at the city cemetery.
HARVEY J. DUENO cemetery #44 Harvey J. Dueno, 69, of 1205 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday at the ????(can't read) Hotel, Milwaukee. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Donald T. Stannard will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Dueno was born Nov. 2, 1902, at Manitowoc, son of the late George and Ernestine Kuecker Dueno. He attended South Side Central High School, Manitowoc, and was a graduate with the Class of 1921. He was employed at Binks Manufacturing Co. for 50 years where he was district manager for many years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Manitowoc, the Milwaukee Athletic Club, Manitowoc Elks Lodge No. 687, Manitowoc Lodge No. 65, F.& A.M., Manitowoc Chapter No. 16, R.A.M., Manitowoc Council No. 18, R. & S.M., Manitowoc Commandery No. 43, Knights Templar, Manitowoc Chapter No. 196, OES, Wisconsin Scottish Rite bodies, Tripoli Temple Shrine of Milwaukee and Two Rivers-Manitowoc Shrine Club. JULIUS DUENO cemetery #44 Funeral services for Julius Dueno, 47, former Manitowoc resident, who died yesterday in Chicago, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Frazier mortuary chapel, the Rev. Carl Hagen officiating. There will be Masonic rites at the grave in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Dueno was stricken with a sudden heart attack Wednesday morning, while on his way to work for the Dryden Rubber company, where he was production manager. Born in this city in 1899 Mr. Dueno was employed at the ship yards here during World War I. Twenty-six years ago he married Miss Rose Felber and they moved to Chicago. Survivors are his wife; three sisters, Mrs. L.W. Norteman of this city, Mrs. H.D. Kuentz and Mrs. R.H. Spiehm of Madison; five brothers, George of this city, Frank, Fred, Henry and August Jr., all of Chicago. There will be Masonic rites by the Acme lodge in Chicago tonight. Mr. Dueno was a past master of that lodge. The body will arrive here Friday afternoon and may be viewed after 7 p.m. at the mortuary. MINA DUENO cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 25 June 1885: Death of Mrs. Minna Duenow (nee Ernst) on Mon. evening. She was the wife of August Duenow, was 36 years old, and had been ill for a long time. She leaves her husband and five children, of which the eldest is 13 and the youngest 3, two boys and three girls. Burial took place yesterday afternoon with Pastor Craig delivering the funeral sermon.
VERA A. DUENO cemetery #44 Vera A. Dueno, age 100, formerly of 1205 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc. Private family services were held according to Vera's wishes. The Rev. Randall Richter officiated at the service and burial took place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Vera was born Sept. 6, 1900, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late George and Ernestine Kueker Dueno. Vera was educated in the Manitowoc Public Schools and lived in Manitowoc all her life. She was secretary and office manager to the Manitowoc Public School District Board of Education until her retirement in 1965. Vera was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Manitowoc Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Senior Citizens and the National AARP. Survivors include cousins and friends. Vera was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harvey. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with funeral arrangements. ADOLPH DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #84 Adolph Duerrwaechter, 94, of R. 2, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died Sunday evening at the Toth Nursing Home, Chilton. He was born July 24, 1881 in the Town of Schleswig, a son of William and Marie Staats Duerrwaechter. He attended Kiel public school. He operated the Duerrwaechter homestead farm until retirement. He never married. Mr. Duerrwaechter was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. - Jan. 4, 1976
CHRISTIAN DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #84 Called By Death. Christian Duerwaechter, a well known and old-time resident of Kiel, passed away at the home of his son Otto last Saturday, at the advanced age of 81 years, 5 months and 7 days. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Decedent was born in Swabia, Germany, Sept. 21, 1838, and came to America in 1857 with his parents, who located at South Germantown. In 1860 Mr. Duerwaechter purchased a piece of land north of Kiel, and in 1863 he was united in marriage to Maria Mahlich, the couple making their home on the above land, which they transformed into a nice farm. His first wife died in 1880, leaving him with 11 children, the youngest being four weeks old. In 1881 he entered a second marriage with Magdalena Soemer; she preceded him in death after 25 years of wedded life in 1906, since when Mr. Duerwaechter has made his home in Kiel, with his son Otto. He had always enjoyed good health up to last New Year, when he began to fail and was since confined to the house. He is survived by 5 sons, 2 daughters, 22 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also one brother, Philip, of South Gemantown, and one sister, Mrs. Philip Schilling, of Schleswig. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Ref. church; interment in the family lot in the Rockville cemetery. Rev. W. Rech officiated.
ERNEST P. DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Ernst P. Duerrwaechter, 80, of Howards Grove, retired meat market operator and former treasurer of the town of Herman, died early this morning after an illness of several months. Mr. Duerrwaechter was born in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, Dec. 22, 1876, a son of William and Mary Staats Duerraechter, and attended district school in that township. He was marrièd Sept. 10, 1903, to Miss Lydia Berg of the town, of Schleswig. A carpenter by trade, Mr. Duerrwaechter worked at that trade in Kiel after he was married, operated a farm in the town of Schleswig for a time, then moved to Sheboygàn and worked as a carpenter again until 1928. From 1928 to 1934 when he retired he operated a meat market at Howards Grove. He was a member of Faith Evangelical and Reformed Church, town of Sheboygan Falls, and for nine years served as treasurer of the town of Herman. (Survivors omitted for privacy) One son, Erwin, died in 1956, and a brother and two sisters also preceded Mr. Duerrwaechter in death. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Daniel Schowalter, pastor, will conduct the services and burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. ERWIN DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Erwin Duerrwaechter, 43, of Howards Grove, died Wednesday afternoon after a lingering illness. He was born Jan. 14, 1913, near Kiel, the son of Ernest Duerrwaechter and Lydia Berg. He had been in ill health most of his life. Survivors are his parents of Howards Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Irmgard Sprenger of Millersville, Mrs. Roman (Norma) Kalk of Rt. 1, Cleveland, and two brothers, Edgar and Harry, both of Howards Grove. Private funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. HARRY DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Injuries In Auto Crash Prove Fatal A rural Sheboygan man died early today of injuries suffered Monday in an auto-truck collision at a county road intersection, a mile west of Kohler. The victim was Harry Duerrwaechter, 40, of Route 1, Sheboygan. He died at 7 a.m. at St. Nicholas Hospital after being in semi-conscious condition since the accident. Dr. Reed M. Simpson, county coroner, attributed death to a skull fracture. Duerrwaechter’s death raised Sheboygan County’s 1958 traffic death toll to 17, two more than were killed in a 12-month period in 1958. Sheriff deputies said Duerrwaechter was the driver of a car which collided with a Wisconsin Public Service Corp. truck about 3:35 p.m. Monday at the intersection of County Trunks O and Y. The truck driver, Jack Picara, 25, of 1523 S. 10th St., told officers that Duerrwaechter’s car, northbound on County Trunk Y, failed to stop for an arterial sign at the intersection. Picard escaped injury in the crash and a passenger in the truck, George Kulas, 38, of 1223 Pershing Ave., is still hospitalized with a concussion and lacerations to the scalp and face. No inquest is planned. Duerrwaechter, a bachelor, is a son of Mrs. Lydia Duerrwaechter at Millersville. He had worked at the Rway Furniture Co. and the Phoenix Chair Co. in Sheboygan. Born July 22, 1918, on a farm in the Town of Sheboygan Falls, a son of Ernst and Lydia Berg Duerrwaechter, he attended school at Erdman and Howards Grove and was graduated from the Howards Grove High School. He was confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Town of Herman. Funeral Saturday Mr. Duerrwaechter was a member of Faith Evangelical and Reformed Church at Erdman and the church brotherhood. Survivors, in addition to his mother, are a brother, Edgar of Howards Grove, and two sisters, Mrs. Irmgard Sprenger, Millersville, and Mrs. Roman Kalk of R. 1, Cleveland. His father died in June 1937, and a brother, Erwin, preceded him in death in May, 1956. The body was taken to the Meiselwitz Funeral Home at Kiel where services are tentatively planned for Saturday. LOUISE DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Mrs. Louise Duerrwaechter, 76, widow of the late Otto Duerrwaechter, formerly of Kiel, died early today at Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison, where she had been for two days. For the past three years she had been making her home with a daughter, Mrs. George Davis, at Middleton, Wis. The former Louise Dessloch, she was born in the town of Rhine, Oct. 1, 1880, a daughter of the late Louis and Louise Staats Dessloch. She attended district school in Rhine and on July 12, 1903, was married to Mr. Duerrwaechter of the town of Schleswig. The couple located in Kiel where her husband was in the painting and interior decorating business. He died in May, 1948. She was a member of the Frauenverein of St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, and of the GUG Germania Society. Surviving, in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Davis (Caroline), are another daughter, Mrs. Florence Schmidt, Kiel, one son, Roy, Kie; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. William Johanning and Mrs. Charles Behrend, Plymouth, and Miss Anna Dessloch, Kiel; and a brother, Louis Dessloch, Kiel. She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford, two sisters and one brother. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. LUDWIG DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Ludwig Duerrwaechter, 72, passed away at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, at 9:15 a.m. today after being a patient there since Sunday. He was born in Kiel on Dec. 20, 1872, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Duerrwaechter. His education was received in Kiel schools. Miss Mary Boege of Kiel became his bride on Dec. 18, 1907. After their marriage, they located in Kiel where Mr. Duerrwaechter had a shoe repair shop for many years. For the past 21 years, Mr. and Mrs. Duerrwaechter operated the Commercial hotel at Kiel. LYDIA DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Mrs. Lydia Duerrwaechter, 83, of Millersville, died Wednesday night at Rocky Knoll Hospital and Sanatarium. She was born Sept. 30, 1883, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late August and Bertha Wagenknecht Berg. She attended Kiel public school. On Sept. 10, 1903, she married Ernst Duerrwaechter, also of the Town of Schleswig. The couple resided in Kiel, farmed in the Town of Schleswig before moving to Sheboygan where they lived until 1920. They then moved to Howards Grove to operate a meat market. After her husband’s death in June, 1957, Mrs. Duerrwaechter made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Irmgard Sprenger, of Millersville, until becoming a patient at Rocky Knoll three years ago. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ at Erdman, and a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Irmgard Sprenger, and Mrs. Roman (Noma) Kalk, of Howards Grove; one son, Edgar, of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-granchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Engle, Miss Mathilda Berg, and Miss Birdie Berg, and one brother, Richard Berg, all of Milwaukee. Two sons, Irvin and Harry, and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, Erdman, with the Rev. Terrence McCreedy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. MAGDELENA DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #84 From Der Nord Westen, 30 Aug. 1906: Death Friday in Kiel of the almost 80-year old Mrs. Christina Duerrwaechter of bronchitis. ******* Mrs. Christian Duerrwaechter (nee Madeline Frank) died on Thursday night at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 14 days from an apparent heart attack. She was born May 6, 1827 in Fuerstenberg, Sachsen, Germany. She was married in 1853 to Christian Zimmer who passed away in 1876. She again was married on May 17th, 1881 to Christ Duerrwaechter. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, 6 step-sons, 3 step-daughters and 15 grandchildren. MARIA DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #84 Mrs. Mary Duerwaechter, nee Staats, aged 81 years, died of hardening of the arteries at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo Kuhn in the city on Friday evening. She had been ill since July. The deceased was born in the state of Pennsylvania on Feb. 26, 1845. When two years old she came to Germantown with her parents, where she lived up to the time of her marriage to Wm. Duerwaechter on June 5, on a farm one mile north of Kiel. Her husband died in 1909, and Mrs. Duerwaechter remained on the homestead with her son, Adolph, until a few weeks before her death, when she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kuhn. She is survived by two sons, Adolph, and Ernst of near Sheboygan, three daughters, Mrs. Herm. Vogel, Mrs. Ad. Jochmann, living near Kiel, and Mrs. Geo Kuhn, 12 grand- children and 3 great-grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 from the Kuhn residence and at 2 o’clock at the Reformed church, the Rev. Wm Rech officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. - 1926
MARY DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Mary Duerwaechter(sic), 99, formerly of 614 Fremont St., Kiel, died Wednesday evening at Calumet Homestead Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had resided for the past month. The former Mary Boege was born Dec. 16, 1885, in Kiel, daughter of the late John and Mary Balz Boege. She was a graduate of Kiel High School. On July 20, 1904, she was married to Ludwig Duerwaechter, in Kiel. After marriage they operated the Commercial Hotel in Kiel until 1945, when Mr. Duerwaechter died. Mrs. Duerwaechter then operated the Elite Gift Shop with her sister. She was a member of St. Peter united Church of Christ in Kiel. She is survived by nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. No newspaper named
OTTO A. DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #82 Otto A. Duerwaechter(sic), 72, well-known painter and decorator of Kiel for the past 42 years, died this morning at the St. Nicholas hospital. A life-long resident of Kiel, he was born July 13, 1875, in the town of Schleswig, the son of Christian and Marie Mahlich Duerwaechter. On July 12, 1905, he was married to Louise Dessloch of the town of Rhine by the late Rev. William of Kiel. Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. George (Caroline) Davis of Madison and Mrs. Florence Greve of Kiel; a son Roy, of Kiel; five grandchildren; a brother, Ben, of Germantown. A son, Clifford, two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Duerwaechter was a member of the Kiel Redmen and a charter member of the Kiel Fire department which he served as treasurer for 20 years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter and St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church of Kiel of which he was a life member and belonged to the Senior choir for many years. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will officiate and burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. ROY E. DUERRWAECHTER cemetery #83 Roy E. Duerrwaechter, 82, of 732 Adams St., Keil, died Monday morning, June 29, 1992, at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born December 27, 1909, at Kiel, Wis., son of the late Otto and Louise (Dessloch) Duerrwaechter. He was a 1927 graduate of Kiel High School. On July 1, 1933, he married Alyce Silbernagel at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. He was city administrator for the City of Kiel, from 1963 to 1976. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Survivors include his wife, one son, four grandchildren, five great- granddaughters, one sister, Caroline Davis, of Columbus, Wis. He was preceded in death by one sister and one infant brother. (Survivors edited for privacy) Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Cletus LaMere, officiating, preceded by brief family rites at 10 a.m., at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
WILHELM DUERRWAECHTER (d. 1902) cemetery #84 Last week Thursday, at the home of his parents in Schleswig, Mr. Wm. Duerrwaecher Jr., at the youthful age of 27 years died after a four year long illness of laryngeal consumption. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. He was born In Oelbronn, Wiertenberg, Germany and came to America with his parents, brothers and sisters in 1857. They settled in Germantown, Wisconsin where they lived for 2 ½ years. In the fall of 1861 he enlisted in the 9th Infantry Regiment of the Union Army and was discharged because of health problems.
