ELIZABETH DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Death claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Diefenthaeler on Sunday forenoon, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, where she had been residing for a number of years. Her demise was due to the infirmities of old age, after an illness of about a week. The deceased, nee Weitzel, was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, August 8, 1839, and came to America in 1857 with her parents, who settled in the town of Rhine. She was married in 1860 to Jacob Diefenthaeler, after which the couple resided on a farm in the town of Rhine. In 1902 they disposed of the farm to their son Jacob Jr., and moved to Millhome, where they lived nine years. Eleven years ago they came to Kiel to spend their declining years. Mr. Diefenthaeler died in January, 1921. Thirteen children blessed their union of whom eight have passed away. The surviving children are a daughter and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of Kiel, Fred. of Russell, John of Schleswig, Jacob of Rhine and William of the town of New Holstein. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. June 29, 1922 ******* Mrs. Elizabeth Diefenthaler, widow of Jacob Diefenthaler and a pioneer resident of Sheboygan county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer at Kiel. Death was due to infirmities incident to old age. Deceased was born in Germany July 8, 1939 and came to America in 1857, was married in 1860 and until eleven years ago lived on a farm in the town of Rhine. Then they sold and moved to Kiel. Mr. Diefenthaler died a year ago. Four sons, one daughter, twenty-five grand children and three great-grandchildren survive her. The funeral was held at Kiel. Manitowoc Herald News, Thursday, June 29, 1922 P.3 JACOB DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Jacob Diefenthaeler, the oldest resident of Kiel and a pioneer of the town of Rhine, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, on Monday afternoon at 1:30, at the age of 93 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Diefenthaeler was a native of Germany, where he was born December 14, 1827. He immigrated to America in 1857, coming direct to the town of Rhine, Sheboygan county. After his marriage to Elizabeth Weitzel in 1859, the couple settled on a farm in Rhine, where they lived many years. After transferring the farm to their son Jacob they moved near Millhome, where they resided almost six years. For the past nine years they have been living with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer. Mr. Diefenthaeler had always enjoyed good health up to six months ago, when he began to fail, his condition becoming gradually worse, until death called him away. The family consisted of 13 children, of whom 8 have died. He leaves his aged wife, one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer and four sons namely: Fred, and William in Russell, John in Kiel, and Jacob on the old homestead in Rhine. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Wm. Rech of the Refomed church officiating. Interment was in the Kiel cemetery.
AMELIA DIEFENTHALER cemetery #82 Mrs. Amelia Diefenthaler, 84, of ___ North St, Kiel, died this morning at the Toth Nursing Home in Chilton. The former Amelia Petzold, she was born Sept. 29, 1881, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Gustave and Paulina Petzold. On Nov. 2, 1901, she was married to William Diefenthaler of the Town of Rhine. The couple resided in Kiel for seven years before moving to a farm in the Town of New Holstein, which they operated for 39 years. They retired and returned to Kiel in 1947. Mr. Diefenthaler died in August of 1949. Mrs. Diefenthaler lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Diefenthaler Jr., before going to the nursing home. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a member of the Frauen Verein of the church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Alma) Brotkowski of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Jorgensen of Sheboygan; four sons, William Jr., and Elmer of Kiel, Harold of New Holstein, and Roland of Manitowoc; nine grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl Petzold of Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 3 p.m. Tuesday until 11 a.m., Wednesday and at the church from noon until time of services. DOROTHY DIEFENTHALER Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ for Mrs. Willard F. Diefenthaleer, 40, of Route 1, Elkhart Lake, who died at her home early Saturday morning. The Rev. John F. Baumann officiated at the service and burial was in Town of Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. Mrs. Diefenthaler was born Dorothy Jane Schulz, January 13, 1928 in Meeme, daughter of the late Arno and Martha Wessel Schulz. They later moved to Kiel where she was graduated from Kiel High School in 1946. She was married to Willard Diefenthaler of Kiel, October 22, 1949. EDNA A. DIEFENTHALER cemetery #82 Edna A Diefenthaler, 92, of New Holstein, died Saturday evening, Oct. 4, 1997 at Willowpark Residence where she had been living for the past four years. She is the former Edna Neumann, born Aug. 16, 1905 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late William and Anna Maurer Neumann. On Oct 15, 1927 she married William Diefenthaler in Kiel and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1990. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ and enjoyed doing indoor and outdoor gardening. Survivors include a sister-in-law (private), sister and brother-in-law (private) and many nieces, nephews other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters. EDWIN DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Edwin W. Diefenthaler, 74, of Route 1, Kiel died suddenly at his home early Friday. Born July 7, 1894 in Kiel, he was a son of the late John and Louise Schmidt Diefenthaler. He attended school at Rockville. He married the former Jennie Falk of Valley Center, Kansas, April 4, 1918. The couple located in Kiel where he was employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Company until his retirement in 1957. A World War I veteran, he served part of the time in France. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1968. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, a charter member of the Kasper- Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miss Eleanor and Mrs. Wallace Fenn, both of Kiel; one son, Willard of rural Elkhart Lake, eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois, and one brother Oscar of Kiel. One son preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, the Rev. Q. M. Moeschberger, pastor of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Chilton officiated at the service in the absence of the Rev. John Baumann. Burial was made in the Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. ELEANOR DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Eleanor B. Diefenthaler, age 69, of 1204 Meggers Road, Kiel, died Tuesday evening, August 22, at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, after a lengthy illness. She was born August 13, 1920, in rural Kiel, daughter of Jennie Falk and late Edwin W. Diefenthaler. She attended Kiel grade school and was a 1938 graduate of Kiel High School. She was employed at Stoelting Inc. in Kiel for 40 years, retiring in 1985. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and The American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her mother, Jennie of Kiel; one brother, Willard (Jean) Diefenthaler of rural Elkhart Lake; and one sister, Violet (Oscar) Stephany of rural Kiel. She was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond Coombs, pastor, officiating. JENNIE DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Jenny has lived in the same house in Kiel for 74 years. When she and her husband built the house, they were isolated. Jenny has watched the town grow up around her. She was born on October 22, 1896 in Oklahoma’s Indian Territory. She married Edwin Diefenthaler in 1918. After World War I, they moved to Kiel. Of their four children, the twins were in World War II where one died in a German prisoner of war camp. A daughter died of cancer and Edwin died in the 1960s. Jenny boasts that she has never smoked, danced, played cards, or driven a car, and that she hardly ever watches TV, but life has still been fun. Diefenthaler, 103, of 1204 Meggers Road, Kiel died Monday evening, Sept. 11, 2000 at Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein where she resided the past 3 1/2 months. She is the former Jennie Falk, born Oct. 22, 1896, in Indian Territory, near Cushing, Okla., daughter of the late Frank and Katie Gulch Falk. She attended Pleasant View School near Furley, Kan, On May 4, 1918, she married Edwin E. Diefenthaler in Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1968. Jennie was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, Womens Guild, Sewing Club and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother (WWII). She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Survivors include one son, Willard “Lefty” (Jean) Diefenthaler of rural Elkhart Lake; one daughter, Violet (Oscar) Stephany of Kiel; eight grand- children, and three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 30 step-great-grandchildren; 37 step-great-great-grandchildren and one step- great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Wilber, who died in a German prison camp in 1945; one daughter Eleanor in 1989; three sisters; one brother; three half-sisters; three half-brothers and her step-mother, Clara Ulbrich. Funeral services will be at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs officiating. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. JOHN DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 After being ill for a long time, John Diefenthaler, aged 77, succumbed at his home in the town of Schleswig, near the north city limits, on Sunday at 11:30 p.m. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine on July 30, 1865, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Weitzel-Diefenthaler. January 20, 1891 he was married to Louise Schmidt of the town of Schleswig. Following their marriage they resided in Sheboygan for one year, and in 1892 moved to the Schmidt homestead in the town of Schleswig. Mr. Diefentaler disposed of his farm property in 1910 and moved to the present home Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois; two sons, Edwin and Oscar of here; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of here, and a brother, William of the town of New Holstein. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. LOUISE DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Mrs. John Diefenthaler, age 85, died at the home of her son, Edwin, Thursday. She had been making her home there for the past three years. She was the former Louise Schmidt, born May 23, 1869 in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of Anton and Henrietta Schmidt. She married John Diefenthaler January 30, 1891. They lived in the town of Schleswig their entire life. She was a life-long member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church and also a member of the American Legion auxiliary. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois; two sons, Edwin and Oscar of Kiel; one step-brother, Gustave Grabs of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. OSCAR H. DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Oscar H. Diefenthaler, 77, of R. 2, Kiel, died Sunday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for six weeks. Born on Oct. 23, 1896 in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late John and Louise Schmidt Diefenthaler. He attended public school in Kiel. On Sept. 2, 1930 he married Leona Hiller in Kiel. The couple moved to the rural Kiel area. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Kasper- Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 199, Kiel, and the Manitowoc Tribe, 49, Improved Order of Redmen. (Survivors omitted for privacy) A sister and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter UCC, the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. WILBUR J. DIEFENTHALER Memorial Services for Corp. W. Diefenthaler The St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church will have memorial services on Sunday for Corporal Wilber J. Diefenthaler, aged 22, twin son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Diefenthaler. Wilbur died in a hospital in Germany on February 21, 1945, while being held a prisoner of war. Rev. E. L. Worthman will conduct the services, and the Kiel Kasper Post No 99, American Legion will attend in a body. T/5 Willard F. Diefenthaler, twin brother of the deceased, arrived here on May 1st, to spend a 60-day furlough. He arrived home less than a month after his parents received word from the International Red Cross of the death of his brother. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church here, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine in 1875, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Diefenthaler. He was married to the former Miss Amalia Petzoldt on Nov. 2, 1901. The couple were residents of Kiel for seven years following their marriage, and then moved to the town of New Holstein, where they resided for 39 years. They have been living at their present home, in Kiel, for the past two years. Survivors include the widow; four sons, two daughters, 8 grand- children and one great-grandchild.
WILLIAM H. DIEFENTHALER (d. 1990) cemetery #82 William H. Diefenthaler, 87, of 609 North Street, Kiel, died Tuesday evening, March 27, at the Chilton Village after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1902, at Kiel, son of the late William and Amelia Petzold Diefenthaler. He attended schools in Kiel. On October 15, 1927, he married Edna Neumann in Kiel. He was a carpenter by trade all his life in the Kiel area, retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and the Kiel Senior Citizens. HENRY DIEM, SR. cemetery #21 Henry Diem, Sr, aged 82, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday at his farm home one-quarter of a mile east of the School Hill, following a stroke which he suffered a few days ago. Deceased was born July 15, 1859 in New York, and at the age of 10 years came with his parents to a farm about one and one-half miles southwest of St. Nazianz, where he lived until 1890. In that year, he married to Mary Ann Durst and the couple established their home in St. Nazianz, where he built a new residence. For 12 years he was employed by William F. Cristel of Valders and worked for the same number of years in a canning factory. In 1914, he brought the small farm where he passed away. Survivors are the widow and two sons, Henry at home, and William of St. Nazianz. Mr. and Mrs. Diem celebrated their golden anniversary in May, two years ago. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Catholic church at School Hill, and interment was made in the St. Gregory's parish cemetery. His job was hauling freight by horses and wagon or sled from Manitowoc to the store. This trip probably took 2 days, so he may have had to stay overnight. He hated the winter months because of the cold ride. Later the train came through Valders, so he didn't have so far to travel. Christel also owned a canning factory in St. Nazianz, so late Henry was employed there. He also worked as a janitor at St. Gregory Catholic Church. He spoke of making and hauling wood for the church. The wood needed to be hauled into the basement where there were lots of tunnels and turns. ROSA BARBARA DIEM cemetery #21 Death called Mrs. Fred. Diem at her home near St. Nazianz on Saturday, May 19, her demise being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Diem, nee Rosa Barbara Mutz, was born in Wuertemberg, Germany, in 1856. She came to this country in 1879, and in 1885 was united in marriage to Fred. Diem. The couple settled on a farm near St. Nazianz where they have since been living. She was a member of the Christian Mothers society. Mrs. Diem is survived by her husband and seven children, namely: Mrs. Rose Buschmann of Denver, Colo., Clara Diem of Chicago, Ill., the Misses Marie and Flora at home, George of Arlington, Calif., and Peter and Joseph at home. Three sisters and one brother also survive her. They are: Miss Anna Mutz of St. Nazianz, Mrs. P. Mueller of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. W. Graf in Germany, and George Mutz of Chelsea, Wis. WILBERT A. DIEM cemetery #84 Wilbur F. Diem, 20, Stricken At Home Near Kiel Kiel – (Special) – Wilbur F. Diem, 20, son of Henry and Martha Diem, died at the farm home one mile east of School Hill, Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. He had been ill a year and had been confined to a hospital in Sheboygan for three months and at Rochester, Minn., for four weeks. He was born Feb. 9, 1920 at the farm near School Hill, and was graduated from Kiel High school in 1939 with high honors. Survivors are his parents, one brother, Raymond, a sister, Delores, at home, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Diem, Sr., town Meeme, and Fred Guetschow, Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Meiselwitz funeral home and at 2 o’clock at Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. Harold O. Gunwald officiating, with burial in Rockville cemetery. The body can be seen at the funeral home from Tuesday noon on. EDWARD DIETL cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 13 Aug. 1903: Eduard Diedl, a well-known resident of our city, died of a stroke Wed. morning. Mr. Diedl had suffered a stroke several months ago from which he recovered, but suffered another yesterday morning as he returned from a shopping trip to the meat market. Mr. Diedl was born 14 July 1842 in Leobschütz, Austria, and soon came to America in 1849. He occupied a farm in Neshoto for a long time but moved to Manitowoc several years ago. He is survived by his widow and 2 children, namely, a son Frank who resides in Milwaukee, and a daughter here, Mrs. Mary Herzog. The funeral will probably be held Sat. afternoon, but the specific details have not yet been announced.

ANNIE DIETRICH cemetery #21 Mrs. Anna Dietrich, 78, lifelong resident of Manitowoc County, died Monday morning at the home of her son, John, in the village of St. Nazianz following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Frederick Dorn will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born Anna Herr in Meeme in 1873 and in 1911 was married to William M. Dietrich. They located on a farm in that town. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of the St. Gregory congregation. Her husband died in 1950. Survivors are three sons, John of St. Nazianz, William of Manitowoc and Joseph of Cato; brother, Frank Herr of Sheboygan; and four grandchildren. CARL DIETRICH cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 28 Aug. 1890: (From correspondent in Two Rivers, 26 Aug.) In response to a telegram advising him of his father’s death, Charles Diedrich arrived here last evening and his sisters Louise and Marie are expected today. His father was Carl L. Diedrich who had lived in New York before coming here where he worked in the chair factory. (See also entry of 24 July. Burial described in issue of 04 Sept.) ED DIETRICH cemetery #6 Ed Dietrich, 84, formerly of Rt. 1, Cato, died Saturday evening at Manitowoc County Hospital. JOHANN DIETRICH cemetery 6 CATO PIONEER DEAD AT AGE OF 94 YEARS John Dedrichs (sic), pioneer resident of the town of Cato and one of the oldest, residents of Manitowoc county, died this morning at the home of his son there, aged 94 years. Mr. Dedrichs had resided in Manitowoc county for many years, having made his home with his son after retiring from farming which he engaged in when locating here. The funeral will be held at Clarks Mills Monday morning. Deceased had been an invalid for a couple of years. But his death was the result of a paralytic stroke which he suffered about a week ago. He is survived by four daughters, Mesdames Frank Schad of St. Nazianz, Adam Wallander and Frank Manlick of Cato Falls and Ed. Schlingler of Manitowoc and one son, Joseph, who resides on the old homestead. His wife preceded him in death in 1899. Mr. Deitrick was a respectable, honest and upright man, a good citizen and a devout Christian. The funeral was held at 10 o’clock Monday with interment in St. Mary’s cemetery. JOHANN G. DIETRICH cemetery #89B Died - At the residence of his son-in-law in this city on August 2 1888. J.G. Dietrich aged 78 years. J.G. Dietrich was one of the first settlers of Milwaukee, having located there when the town only contained two dozen houses - about 50 years ago. He continued to reside in Milwaukee until about twelve years ago when he moved to this place where he owned some property. He was a tailor by trade and a pretty successful business man. Although he was never robust in health, he carefully preserved his vital forces so that he more than reached the three-score and ten years allotted to man. He was a most devout Catholic and his funeral last Saturday took place from the Catholic church. He was born in Lindenfels, Kessem(sic) Darmstedt, June 26, in the year 1810. In 1836 he crossed the Atlantic and settled at Detroit. Three years later, in 1839, he took up his residence in Milwaukee. There were only 14 German families in Milwaukee when he settled there. Twenty-four years later he moved to St. Lawrence, Wis., and in 1875 he came here. He had 10 children, 6 daughters and 4 sons. Only four of his children are now living. They are Mrs. P.W. Berkhauser of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Frances Tiersch, Mrs. Jos. Rehrauer and Mrs. Frank Wolf of this city. His aged wife and companion also still survives him. Manitowoc Co. NORBERT E. DIETRICH cemetery #82 Norbert E. Dietrich, 64, of 725 Milwaukee Street, Kiel died unexpectedly Sunday morning at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac. He was born October 26, 1922, in St. Nazianz the son of the late William F. and Minnie Gutman Dietrich. On May 1, 1948 he married Beatrice L Kretsch at St. Boniface Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Dietrich graduated from St. Gregory Grade School, St. Nazianz, and Valders High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a Sheet Metal worker at Household Utilities in Kiel for 19 years and presently employed at Groeschel Co., Malone. Mr. Dietrich was an avid sports fan, and played in the Manitowoc County hard ball league for many years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kiel, a member of the VFW Post 6707, Kiel, a Charter member of the St. Nazianz Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 18. ADELINE DIONNE cemetery #89B From the Manitowoc County Chronicle, 21 Mar. 1882: A Strange Co-incidence. Last Tuesday night Adeline Dionne, aged 25 years, daughter of Cleophas and Eliza Dionne of this city died after a long and painful illness. The funeral took place on Friday from the Catholic Church. While one daughter was being borne to the grave another was born and when those of the family who were able to attend the funeral returned from their sad journey they found a fine, healthy baby girl awaiting their care and caresses.

He was employed as a heat treater at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding company. He was 50 years of age. The body was taken to the Pfeffer funeral home where it will lie in state from Sunday morning to 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning where services will be conducted. She was born Amanda Voss on June 24, 1895, in the Town of Meeme, a daughter of the late Louis and Albertina Schwalenberg Voss. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel United Church of Christ, and attended the district school. On Nov. 1, 1913, she married Emil Dirks of Louis Corners. The couple moved to Meeme, where he operated a cheese factory until his retirement in 1956. Mrs. Dirks was a life member of Bethel Church, the Ladies Aid Society of the church and the Pigeon River Homemakers. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Elmer of the Town of Mosel, Erwin of the Town of Rhine, and Lester of Ada; five grandsons; one great granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Alvin Zimmermann of the Town of Rhine, Mrs. Edward Mahlich of the Town of Schleswig, and Mrs. Reinhold Roethel of the Town of Meeme; three brothers, Alvin of the Town of Meeme, Harvey of Manitowoc, and Melvin of Plymouth. She also was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel United Church of Christ in the Town of Herman with the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. He was born April 7, 1859 in the town of Rhine. On Oct. 6, 1885, he was married to Miss Mary Raquet in the town of Schleswig. The couple located in Louis Corners where Mr. Dirks operated a shoe store for the past 52 years. His wife preceded him in death Oct. 11, 1933. Survivors are three children, Mrs. George Schumann of Highland Park, Ill.; Mrs. John Rosenthal of Kiel and Emil of Ada; three grandchildren, one great- grandchild, and one brother, John Dirks of Plymouth. One child died in infancy and three brothers also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the C. J. She was born September 16, 1856, on a farm two and one-half miles southeast of Kiel, which is now owned by her brother, Carl Raquet. In October, 1885, she was united in marriage to Henry Dirks, Town of Rhine, from which time on the couple resided at Louis Corners, where Mr. Dirks owns and operates a shoe store. He attended public schools in Centerville and married Hertha Bartz Sept. 26, 1931, at Collins. They farmed in the Town of Centerville until 1957 when they moved to Manitowoc. Survivors include his wife; a son, two daughters (Survivors omitted for privacy.); and eight grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. ALWINE M. DITTMEYER From Der Nord Westen, 18 Oct. 1906: Alwine, daughter of Louis Dittmeier(sic) in Meeme, died Friday evening at age 16 of a stroke. The funeral was held Monday, 15 October, in Schwarzwald.
BERTHA DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Mrs. Bertha Dittmeyer, 80, widow of Oscar, died unexpectedly on Saturday at the Sheboygan Retirement home where she had resided since November 1970. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Reverend John F. Baumann officiating. Burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. She was born December 9, 1893 at Curtiss, a daughter of the late Fred and Augusta Drake Strade. On December 25, 1917 she was married to Mr. Dittmeyer at the Reformed Church at Colby. The couple resided in Colby where Mr. Dittmeyer operated a concrete products business. They moved to Kiel in 1953. In 1967 the couple celebrated its golden wedding. Her husband preceded her in death in May 23, 1970. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and its Frauen Verein. Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Ella Schoerer of Abbotsford, Mrs. Edward Rhamlow of Appleton, Mrs. Peter Miller of Oshkosh and four brothers, Edwin Strade of Abbotsford, Harry of Oshkosh, Ben of Sheboygan and Clarence of Livermore, California.
LOUIS DITTMEYER cemetery #90 Louis Dittmeyer, 75, passed away at St. Nicholas hospital Monday, where he had been a patient since Saturday. Mr. Dittmeyer was born in the town of Meeme on November 22, 1850, and had resided on a farm there for many years. For some time past he had been making his home here with a daughter, Mrs. H. L. DeSmidt, 619 N. Tenth Street. The survivors are two sons, Adolph and Oscar Dittmeyer, of Colby; four daughters, Mrs. William Melger, Meeme, Mrs. Fred Ehnert, Kiel; Mrs. H. L. DeSmidt and Mrs. Emil Hersel, they city and nine grand- children. His wife preceded him in death twenty-two years ago. Funeral services will be from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Melger, in the Town of Meeme and from the church at Schwartzwald. The Rev. OSCAR DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Oscar G. Dittmeyer, age 77, 718 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Saturday night at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born October 7, 1892, in the Town of Meeme, a son of the late Ludwig and Minna Klemm Dittmeyer. December 25, 1917, he and Bertha Strade of Curtiss, Wisconsin, were married. Mr. Dittmeyer served in the U.S. Army during World War I. After returning from military duty, he established a concrete products manufacturing firm in Colby, retiring in 1953 when he and his wife moved to Kiel. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, the Brotherhood, and the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99. Mr. Dittmeyer is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Ann Hensel, Sheboygan. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with the Rev. John F. CARL DITTRICH cemetery #82 At 9 o’clock on Tuesday morning at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, Mr. Carl Dittrich a long time, well-known and respected resident of Kiel, died from a stomach ailment having been admitted a week ago. The deceased had reached the age of 38 years. He was born in Germany and came to America as a young boy and shortly thereafter to Kiel, where he has worked at the Kiel Woodenware Company ever since. In 1894 he married Miss Anna Roeck and the marriage was blessed with three children. Mr. Dittrich had been village-trustee and school board director, and a member of the Men’s Choir, the Turners, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Redmen. A while ago he had an operation from which he was beginning to slowly recover, but relapsed a few weeks ago from which he did not recover. The burial will take place on Friday from the house of mourning to the Kiel Cemetery. Pastor Rech will officiate at the house and Pastor Roeck at the Cemetery. No newspaper named, no date
JENNIE DITTRICH cemetery #82 Mrs. Jennie Dittrich passed away at the hospital in Sheboygan on Sunday, after a brief illness with a complication of diseases. Decedent, nee Roeck, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 4, 1874. She came to Kiel with her parents as a young girl and after growing to womanhood, was married in 1894 to Carl Dittrich, who preceded her in death about 12 years ago. Mrs. Dittrich continued to reside in Kiel until a few years ago, when she located at New Holstein, and about a year ago she moved to Oconomowoc with her son Eugene, where she operated a restaurant. Some months ago her health began to fail and while on a visit with her son Walter at Sheboygan she became ill and was taken to the hospital, where she died on Sunday. Mrs. Dittrich is survived by three sons, Carl of Weyauwega, Walter of Sheboygan, and Eugene of Oconomowoc. She also leaves her aged mother, Mrs. Jno. Roeck of Kiel, four brothers and four sisters as follows: Emanuel Roeck of Burlington, Christian of Kiel, John of New Holstein, Carl of Piqua, Ohio, Mrs. Ad. Zimmermann of Mellen, Mrs. Mary Duecker, Mrs. Gust. Stoelting and Mrs. Oscar Kazmeier of Kiel, and one grandchild. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, from the home of Mrs. Mary Duecker, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating at the services. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. - 1923
