HECTOR A. DICK cemetery #44 Hector Dick, 70, Manitowoc, Dies Manitowoc, Wis. – Hector Dick, 70, owner of Dick Brothers bakery, died Sunday at Holy Family hospital after a brief illness. He and his brother, Jerome, came here from Green Bay about 40 years ago and built their bakery into one of the largest in northeastern Wisconsin. Jerome drowned many years ago when his automobile went off a bridge into the Manitowoc river. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran church. DIEDRICH DICKE cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 07 Mar. 1895: Death last Sat. in Two Rivers of Diedrich Dicke at the age of 75. Mr. Dicke was born 29 Jan. 1820 in Stolzenau, Prov. Hanover. He came to America in 1846 and to Wisconsin in 1847. For a short while he worked in Cedarburg, Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers and Kewaunee, finally settling in the vicinity of Two Rivers. He was married in 1850 to Marie Hemschemeyer, a marriage that produced 2 sons and 2 daughters. One of the daughters died in 1869, leaving his widow and the other 3 children to survive him. The deceased was an uncle of Mr. W. Dicke of Manitowoc. His funeral was Tues. at the Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.


MARGERETHA DICKE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 11 Mar. 1897: Death on Tues. morning of Mrs. Margarethe Dicke (nee Vogelsang), in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. G. Lehmkuhl in Manitowoc. She was 68 yrs. 6 mos. of age, and died of old age debility. The deceased was born 1828 in Barnsdorf, Hanover, and came to America in 1849, marrying Heinrich Dicke in 1851. Her husband died in 1857 leaving her with 3 small children - 3-mos, 3-yrs. and 6-yrs. of age. The funeral took place Fri. afternoon.

Gordon J. Dickenson, age 74, of Two Rivers, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 15, 1999, at Two Rivers Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 1999, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. William G. O'Brien, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. He was born December 12, 1925, at Neopit, Wis., son of the late Ira and Cora Lafond Dickenson. He attended schools in Neopit and Sheboygan. He worked at Jungs Shoe Factory in Sheboygan and the Manitowoc Shipyards before enlisting in the Navy. He served with the United States Navy from November 29, 1944, until March 11, 1946. On May 14, 1949, he married Anna Mae Jacobosky at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed at Hamilton Mfg. Co. for 42 years, until his retirement in 1988. Gordon was a member of the Men of Holy Redeemer and the Veteran's of Foreign War. He served as a past Boy Scout leader and devoted many years of service as an attendant with the Two Rivers Religious Education Program. Gordon enjoyed gardening and working in his workshop. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae; three sons and two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, a special cousin, other relatives and friends also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hilmore and Augusta Jacobosky. EMIL DICKERT (d. 1937) cemetery #44 Pioneer Resident Dies at Manitowoc Manitowoc, Wis. (Special)-Emil Deckert(sic), 68, died early this morning at the family home on Manitowoc Route 2 after an illness of 12 years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran church, the Rev. Theo. Uetzmann officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Deckert was born in Germany on January 16, 1869, and he came to America when he was 14 years old. He lived in Reedsville and in Brillion until 45 years ago when he came to Manitowoc. He operated his farm for 23 years. In 1899 he married Lydia Jens. EMIL DICKERT (d. 1952) cemetery #44 Emil Dickert, 65, of 605 York St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning following a heart attack at his home. He was ready to depart for work when stricken. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. A.C. Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The deceased was born in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, Oct. 2, 1887. He never married. For more than 20 years he was employed by the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Manitowoc Eagle aerie 706. A native of the Town of Herman, she was born Nov. 9, 1894, a daughter of the late Valentine and Henrietta Koeser Dickman. She received her early education in the district school at Ada and in October, 1921, she entered Evangelical and Reformed Deaconess Hospital at St. Louis where she was consecrated in May, 1925. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Frieda Voss of Sheboygan; and a brother, Edwin, of Menchalville. A brother, Carl, also preceded her in death. ARVIN DICKMANN cemetery #82 Arvin O. Dickmann, 44, a former Sheboygan resident, died at St. Nicholas Hospital, at 11 o'clock p.m. on Saturday. He was born in Neene, October 30, 1904, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dickmann. He was employed at the Kohler Co. until two years ago, when he moved to Miles City, Montana. Since March of this year he has lived with his parents at Schleswig. Survivors are two daughters, one son, his parents, and a sister, Mrs. Edwin Bartz, route 2, Elkhart Lake; two brothers, Edmond and a twin brother, Arno, of Neene. CARL DICKMANN cemetery #82 Carl Dickmann, 42, Dies at Plymouth Death at the age of 43 years came to Carl Dickmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Dickmann, at his home in Plymouth Saturday evening. The cause of his death is given as heart disease. Up until the time of his death he had enjoyed excellent health, and only a week ago he had paid a visit to his parents here. His wife and six children remain to mourn him. The oldest of the children, Edwin, is 18, and the other children are Edna, 15, Melvin, 13, Viola, 11, Leona, 8 and Helen, 3. Besides his parents, one brother and two sisters survive, Edward A., and Mrs. Frieda Voss of Kiel, and Miss Adelia Dickmann, at St. Louis, Mo., who is at present home on a vacation. The deceased was born Dec. 27, 1884, in the town of Herman. Twenty-one years ago he was married to Miss Clara Sonnemann. About 10 years ago he moved with his family from their farm in Meeme and he purchased the Baumann meat market, which he conducted until three years ago. Since that time he has lived in Plymouth. The deceased was a member of the Eagles, which organization had charge of the funeral, the Redmen, G. U. G., and the Beavers. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, with service at the home in Plymouth, and burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. - 1927


EDWIN A. DICKMANN cemetery #84 Edwin A. Dickmann, 73, a former Kiel tavernkeeper who had been residing near Maple Grove (Manitowoc County), died Thursday night in Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. A native of Sheboygan, he was born Jan. 21, 1893, a son of the late Valentine and Henrietta Koeser Dickmann. He married Laura Voss, Oct. 26, 1913, in the Town of Schleswig, following which he operated the Kiel tavern for many years. His wife died in December 1957. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter Bolget (Isobel); a sister, Mrs. Frieda Voss, and three grandchildren, all of Sheboygan. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Reedsville Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg, pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, officiating. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery. HENRIETTA DICKMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. V. Dickmann of Kiel is Called to Rest on Sunday Kiel, Wis. – Mrs. Valentine Dickmann, a resident of Kiel, passed away at 2 o’clock on Sunday afternoon at her home on N. Third street, following a lingering illness. The deceased was formerly Miss Henrietta Koeser, daughter of Karl and Christina Koeser. She was born on May 8, 1863, in the town of Herman. On June 21, 1884, she was married to Valentine Dickmann in the town of Meeme. The couple then resided in towns of Herman and Meeme for some time and they also lived on the Koeser homestead near Ada for many years. For the past 26 years they have made their home on N. Third street in Kiel. Mrs. Dickmann is survived by her husband and three children, Miss Adelia Dickmann of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Frieda Boss who resides in Kiel, and Edward Dickmann also of Kiel. Two children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. E. R. OTTO DICKMANN cemetery #82 A funeral service for Otto Dickman of Kiel, who passed away at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, on Saturday morning, Nov. 17, was held at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. E. L. Worthman of St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church officiated. Burial was made in the Kiel Cemetery. Mrs. Harry Dawurske and Mrs. Donald Drumm rendered several vocal numbers. RUBY DICKMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. Walter Dickmann, 61, of R. 2, Kiel, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Hospital. The former Ruby Graves was born on Nov. 7, 1904, at Wabeno, a daughter of the late Allen and Daisy Graves. She was married to Walter Dickmann, of Kiel, on July 10, 1943. The couple made their home in Kiel since their marriage. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Rice, of King; two brothers, Winfred of Two Rivers, and Bert of Wabeno. VALENTINE DICKMANN cemetery #82 Rites Held Tuesday For Valentine Dickmann Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Valentine Dickmann, 81, who died at Sheboygan Sudnay. He had lived there with his daughter, Mrs. Frieda Voss since 1946. Funeral services were held from St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. The Rev. E. L. Worthman had charge of the services. A native of Sheboygan county, he was born October 26, 1862 on a farm in Town Herman, near Franklin, a son of Arnold and Johanna Bierman, Dickmann, pioneer residents of the county. He was married to Miss Henrietta Koeser of Town of Herman June 21, 1884. Mr. Dickman operated farms in Town of Meeme and Town Herman before moving to Kiel in 1919. He was employed as mason and bricklayer until his retirement in 1929. (no newspaper named, Oct. 1954)


CLARENCE DICKRELL cemetery #81 Clarence Dickrell Dies Unexpectedly Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Clarence J. Dickrell, 47, of 918 Fourth Street, who died last week Wednesday night at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan. He was stricken with a heart attack at his home earlier that evening. The services were held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery with the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. He was born November 16, 1916, near Hilbert, the son of Nicholas and Norma Dickrell The family moved later to the Town of Russell where he attended St. Ann’s Catholic school. On June 15, 1940, he was married to Luella Valleskey, of the Town of Schleswig. They lived in the townships where he was employed by the Valleskey Cheese Factory. For the past 15 years he was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. at New Holstein. Seven years ago he and his wife moved to Kiel. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. Surviving are his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Dickrell, New Holstein; nine sisters, Sister Mary Imelda Ann, Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc; Mrs. Edward Kasprzak, Mrs. LaVerne Minor, Mrs. Henry Turek, Mrs. Roland Mekka, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Ervin Mytko, Mrs. Glenroy Greuel, and Mrs. Alphonse Faust, all of rural Elkhart Lake and Mrs. Wilmer Krebsbach, Fond du Lac; five brothers, Nicholas, jr., Sheboygan, Leo, Roman and Cletus, all of rural Elkhart Lake and Donald, New Holstein. LUELLA DICKRELL cemetery #81 Mrs. Luella Dickrell, 51, of 918 4th St., Kiel, died Monday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital. The former Luella Valleskey was born in the Town of Schleswig on Oct. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late William and Norma Valleskey, and was confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She married Clarence Dickrell of the Town of Russell on June 15, 1940. The couple lived in Schleswig until moving to Kiel 12 years ago. Mrs. Dickrell was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. in New Holstein. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. Her husband died in 1964. A number of cousins are the only survivors. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. John Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. EDWARD F. DIDIER cemetery #44 Edward F. Didier, 66, of 1318 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died at 4:15 Tuesday at home. Funeral services will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Mnaitowoc. The Rev. Ralph Gillis will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Didier was born Sept. 10, 1897, at Evanston, Ill., son of the late Dominic and Lucille Didier. He married Velma Pierce at Evanston Dec. 12, 1944, and came to Manitowoc in December of 1963. Before his illness he had been a technician 22 years in the Technology Building at Northwestern University, Evanston. He served in World War II from 1942-43 as a private first class in the Eighth Service Command. CARL DIEDERICH cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 04 June 1896: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 01 June) Death on Fri. of Carl Diedrich, who suffered 2 yrs. with consumption. He was born and raised here, but worked many years in Chicago where he married, where his sisters lived, and where he was buried on Wed. of last week. His father died a few years ago, but his mother, with whom he lived his final year, is still living and is in good health.


CARL DIEDERICHS cemetery #73 OLD SETTLER OF NEWTON IS CALLED BY DEATH After a lingering illness due to infirmities of old age, Carl Diederichs, one of the pioneers of the town of Newton, died at the home of his son, Edwin Diederichs, on the farm where he had lived for more than forty years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the residence with Rev. D. W. Vriessen of the Reformed Church at Newton officiating. Mr. Diederichs was born at Elberfeld, Germany, on March 26th, 1835 and came to America with his parents in 1847, the family locating on the farm which is now owned by Edwin Diederichs, a son of the decedent, the place having been the home of the deceased all his life here. In 1877, Mr. Diederichs who was widely known in this city and in the community, where he resided, was married to Anna Carstens, who with three children survives. The children are Otto, town of Franklin, Sheboygan County; Mrs. Herman Gosse, of Elkhart Lake and Edwin Diederichs of Newton, who is secretary-manager of the Farmer’s Organization there. Mr. Diederichs was a civil war veteran having served for a year. He was prominent in affairs of his hometown and was honored by election to many offices during his life. A service will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the Edwin Diederichs residence and another will be held at 2 o'clock in the Reformed church in the town of Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery, and the body will lie in state at the Leschke Funeral Home from this afternoon until it is taken to the Diederichs residence Sunday at 1 p m. Mrs. Diederichs was born Mary Carstens on June 3, 1854, in the town of Newton, the daughter of Herman and Marie Carstens, pioneer settlers of this county. On May 17, 1877, she was married to Carl Diederichs, who died 16 yean ago. Survivors are two sons, Otto of Plymouth and Edwin on the homestead farm, one daughter, Mrs. Selma Gosse of Elkhart Lake, two sisters, Mrs. Dietrich Wenholz of Mishicot and Mrs. Carl G. Mr. Diedrich was employed as a Foreman at Mirro Aluminum, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Men of Holy Redeemer Church, the Two Rivers Senior Citizens and Mirro Management Club. Survivors include his wife, Helen; a son and daughter-in-law, two daughters and sons-in-law, three brothers and two sisters- in-law, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. On November 25, 1933, she married Clarence C.(Kelly) Diedrich, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1985. Helen was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Ladies of Holy Redeemer and the Two Rivers Senior Center, where she was very active in the chorus and participated in bowling well into her 80's. She also loved crafts. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, one son and daughter-in-law, one sister, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. ELIZABETH DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Death claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Diefenthaeler on Sunday forenoon, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, where she had been residing for a number of years. Her demise was due to the infirmities of old age, after an illness of about a week. The deceased, nee Weitzel, was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, August 8, 1839, and came to America in 1857 with her parents, who settled in the town of Rhine. She was married in 1860 to Jacob Diefenthaeler, after which the couple resided on a farm in the town of Rhine. In 1902 they disposed of the farm to their son Jacob Jr., and moved to Millhome, where they lived nine years. Eleven years ago they came to Kiel to spend their declining years. Mr. Diefenthaeler died in January, 1921. Thirteen children blessed their union of whom eight have passed away. The surviving children are a daughter and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of Kiel, Fred. of Russell, John of Schleswig, Jacob of Rhine and William of the town of New Holstein. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. June 29, 1922


JACOB DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Jacob Diefenthaeler, the oldest resident of Kiel and a pioneer of the town of Rhine, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, on Monday afternoon at 1:30, at the age of 93 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Diefenthaeler was a native of Germany, where he was born December 14, 1827. He immigrated to America in 1857, coming direct to the town of Rhine, Sheboygan county. After his marriage to Elizabeth Weitzel in 1859, the couple settled on a farm in Rhine, where they lived many years. After transferring the farm to their son Jacob they moved near Millhome, where they resided almost six years. For the past nine years they have been living with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer. Mr. Diefenthaeler had always enjoyed good health up to six months ago, when he began to fail, his condition becoming gradually worse, until death called him away. The family consisted of 13 children, of whom 8 have died. He leaves his aged wife, one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer and four sons namely: Fred, and William in Russell, John in Kiel, and Jacob on the old homestead in Rhine. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Wm. Rech of the Refomed church officiating. Interment was in the Kiel cemetery.


AMELIA DIEFENTHALER cemetery #82 Mrs. Amelia Diefenthaler, 84, of ___ North St, Kiel, died this morning at the Toth Nursing Home in Chilton. The former Amelia Petzold, she was born Sept. 29, 1881, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Gustave and Paulina Petzold. On Nov. 2, 1901, she was married to William Diefenthaler of the Town of Rhine. The couple resided in Kiel for seven years before moving to a farm in the Town of New Holstein, which they operated for 39 years. They retired and returned to Kiel in 1947. Mr. Diefenthaler died in August of 1949. Mrs. Diefenthaler lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Diefenthaler Jr., before going to the nursing home. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a member of the Frauen Verein of the church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Alma) Brotkowski of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Jorgensen of Sheboygan; four sons, William Jr., and Elmer of Kiel, Harold of New Holstein, and Roland of Manitowoc; nine grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl Petzold of Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. She is the former Edna Neumann, born Aug. 16, 1905 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late William and Anna Maurer Neumann. On Oct 15, 1927 she married William Diefenthaler in Kiel and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1990. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ and enjoyed doing indoor and outdoor gardening. EDWIN DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Edwin W. Diefenthaler, 74, of Route 1, Kiel died suddenly at his home early Friday. Born July 7, 1894 in Kiel, he was a son of the late John and Louise Schmidt Diefenthaler. He attended school at Rockville. He married the former Jennie Falk of Valley Center, Kansas, April 4, 1918. The couple located in Kiel where he was employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Company until his retirement in 1957. A World War I veteran, he served part of the time in France. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1968. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, a charter member of the Kasper- Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miss Eleanor and Mrs. Wallace Fenn, both of Kiel; one son, Willard of rural Elkhart Lake, eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois, and one brother Oscar of Kiel. She was born August 13, 1920, in rural Kiel, daughter of Jennie Falk and late Edwin W. Diefenthaler. She attended Kiel grade school and was a 1938 graduate of Kiel High School. She was employed at Stoelting Inc. in Kiel for 40 years, retiring in 1985. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and The American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her mother, Jennie of Kiel; one brother, Willard (Jean) Diefenthaler of rural Elkhart Lake; and one sister, Violet (Oscar) Stephany of rural Kiel. JENNIE DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Jenny has lived in the same house in Kiel for 74 years. When she and her husband built the house, they were isolated. Jenny has watched the town grow up around her. She was born on October 22, 1896 in Oklahoma’s Indian Territory. She married Edwin Diefenthaler in 1918. After World War I, they moved to Kiel. Of their four children, the twins were in World War II where one died in a German prisoner of war camp. A daughter died of cancer and Edwin died in the 1960s. Jenny boasts that she has never smoked, danced, played cards, or driven a car, and that she hardly ever watches TV, but life has still been fun. Jennie was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, Womens Guild, Sewing Club and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother (WWII). She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Survivors include one son, Willard “Lefty” (Jean) Diefenthaler of rural Elkhart Lake; one daughter, Violet (Oscar) Stephany of Kiel; eight grand- children, and three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 30 step-great-grandchildren; 37 step-great-great-grandchildren and one step- great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Wilber, who died in a German prison camp in 1945; one daughter Eleanor in 1989; three sisters; one brother; three half-sisters; three half-brothers and her step-mother, Clara Ulbrich. JOHN DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 After being ill for a long time, John Diefenthaler, aged 77, succumbed at his home in the town of Schleswig, near the north city limits, on Sunday at 11:30 p.m. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine on July 30, 1865, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Weitzel-Diefenthaler. January 20, 1891 he was married to Louise Schmidt of the town of Schleswig. Following their marriage they resided in Sheboygan for one year, and in 1892 moved to the Schmidt homestead in the town of Schleswig. Mr. Diefentaler disposed of his farm property in 1910 and moved to the present home Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois; two sons, Edwin and Oscar of here; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of here, and a brother, William of the town of New Holstein. She was the former Louise Schmidt, born May 23, 1869 in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of Anton and Henrietta Schmidt. She married John Diefenthaler January 30, 1891. They lived in the town of Schleswig their entire life. She was a life-long member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church and also a member of the American Legion auxiliary. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Meta Gibson of Highwood, Illinois; two sons, Edwin and Oscar of Kiel; one step-brother, Gustave Grabs of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Born on Oct. 23, 1896 in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late John and Louise Schmidt Diefenthaler. He attended public school in Kiel. On Sept. 2, 1930 he married Leona Hiller in Kiel. The couple moved to the rural Kiel area. He was a veteran of World War I. WILBUR J. DIEFENTHALER Memorial Services for Corp. W. Diefenthaler The St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church will have memorial services on Sunday for Corporal Wilber J. Diefenthaler, aged 22, twin son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Diefenthaler. Wilbur died in a hospital in Germany on February 21, 1945, while being held a prisoner of war. Rev. E. L. Worthman will conduct the services, and the Kiel Kasper Post No 99, American Legion will attend in a body. T/5 Willard F. Diefenthaler, twin brother of the deceased, arrived here on May 1st, to spend a 60-day furlough. He arrived home less than a month after his parents received word from the International Red Cross of the death of his brother. HENRY DIEM, SR. cemetery #21 Henry Diem, Sr, aged 82, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday at his farm home one-quarter of a mile east of the School Hill, following a stroke which he suffered a few days ago. Deceased was born July 15, 1859 in New York, and at the age of 10 years came with his parents to a farm about one and one-half miles southwest of St. Nazianz, where he lived until 1890. In that year, he married to Mary Ann Durst and the couple established their home in St. Nazianz, where he built a new residence. For 12 years he was employed by William F. Cristel of Valders and worked for the same number of years in a canning factory. In 1914, he brought the small farm where he passed away. Survivors are the widow and two sons, Henry at home, and William of St. Nazianz. Mr. and Mrs. Diem celebrated their golden anniversary in May, two years ago. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Catholic church at School Hill, and interment was made in the St. Gregory's parish cemetery. Christel also owned a canning factory in St. Nazianz, so late Henry was employed there. He also worked as a janitor at St. Gregory Catholic Church. He spoke of making and hauling wood for the church. The wood needed to be hauled into the basement where there were lots of tunnels and turns. ROSA BARBARA DIEM cemetery #21 Death called Mrs. Fred. Diem at her home near St. Nazianz on Saturday, May 19, her demise being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Diem, nee Rosa Barbara Mutz, was born in Wuertemberg, Germany, in 1856. She came to this country in 1879, and in 1885 was united in marriage to Fred. Diem. The couple settled on a farm near St. Nazianz where they have since been living. She was a member of the Christian Mothers society. Mrs. Diem is survived by her husband and seven children, namely: Mrs. Rose Buschmann of Denver, Colo., Clara Diem of Chicago, Ill., the Misses Marie and Flora at home, George of Arlington, Calif., and Peter and Joseph at home. Diem, 20, son of Henry and Martha Diem, died at the farm home one mile east of School Hill, Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. He had been ill a year and had been confined to a hospital in Sheboygan for three months and at Rochester, Minn., for four weeks. He was born Feb. 9, 1920 at the farm near School Hill, and was graduated from Kiel High school in 1939 with high honors. Survivors are his parents, one brother, Raymond, a sister, Delores, at home, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Diem, Sr., town Meeme, and Fred Guetschow, Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Meiselwitz funeral home and at 2 o’clock at Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. Harold O. Gunwald officiating, with burial in Rockville cemetery. The body can be seen at the funeral home from Tuesday noon on. EDWARD DIETL cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 13 Aug. 1903: Eduard Diedl, a well-known resident of our city, died of a stroke Wed. morning. Mr. Diedl had suffered a stroke several months ago from which he recovered, but suffered another yesterday morning as he returned from a shopping trip to the meat market. Mr. Diedl was born 14 July 1842 in Leobschütz, Austria, and soon came to America in 1849. He occupied a farm in Neshoto for a long time but moved to Manitowoc several years ago. He is survived by his widow and 2 children, namely, a son Frank who resides in Milwaukee, and a daughter here, Mrs. Mary Herzog. The funeral will probably be held Sat. afternoon, but the specific details have not yet been announced.

CARL DIETRICH cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 28 Aug. 1890: (From correspondent in Two Rivers, 26 Aug.) In response to a telegram advising him of his father’s death, Charles Diedrich arrived here last evening and his sisters Louise and Marie are expected today. His father was Carl L. Diedrich who had lived in New York before coming here where he worked in the chair factory. (See also entry of 24 July. Burial described in issue of 04 Sept.) JOHANN G. DIETRICH cemetery #89B Died - At the residence of his son-in-law in this city on August 2 1888. J.G. Dietrich aged 78 years. J.G. Dietrich was one of the first settlers of Milwaukee, having located there when the town only contained two dozen houses - about 50 years ago. He continued to reside in Milwaukee until about twelve years ago when he moved to this place where he owned some property. He was a tailor by trade and a pretty successful business man. Although he was never robust in health, he carefully preserved his vital forces so that he more than reached the three-score and ten years allotted to man. He was a most devout Catholic and his funeral last Saturday took place from the Catholic church. He was born in Lindenfels, Kessem(sic) Darmstedt, June 26, in the year 1810. In 1836 he crossed the Atlantic and settled at Detroit. Three years later, in 1839, he took up his residence in Milwaukee. There were only 14 German families in Milwaukee when he settled there. Twenty-four years later he moved to St. Lawrence, Wis., and in 1875 he came here. He had 10 children, 6 daughters and 4 sons. Only four of his children are now living. They are Mrs. P.W. Berkhauser of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Frances Tiersch, Mrs. Jos. Rehrauer and Mrs. Frank Wolf of this city. His aged wife and companion also still survives him. Manitowoc Co. NORBERT E. DIETRICH cemetery #82 Norbert E. Dietrich, 64, of 725 Milwaukee Street, Kiel died unexpectedly Sunday morning at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac. He was born October 26, 1922, in St. Nazianz the son of the late William F. and Minnie Gutman Dietrich. On May 1, 1948 he married Beatrice L Kretsch at St. Boniface Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Dietrich graduated from St. Gregory Grade School, St. Nazianz, and Valders High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a Sheet Metal worker at Household Utilities in Kiel for 19 years and presently employed at Groeschel Co., Malone. Mr. Dietrich was an avid sports fan, and played in the Manitowoc County hard ball league for many years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kiel, a member of the VFW Post 6707, Kiel, a Charter member of the St. Nazianz Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 18. He married Minnie Gutman Sept. 1, 1919, at St. Nazianz. He was also in the tavern business until his retirement in 1959. John Landowski will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Dietzler was born Jan. 21, 1887, at Kaukauna, son of the late Joseph and Mary Rusch Dietzler. He married Agnes Leddy at Kaukauna April 1, 1921, and the couple moved to Manitowoc. Mrs. Dietzler died Jan. 21, 1951, and in October of this year, Mr. Dietzler moved to Lincoln to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Robert Mathewson. ADELINE DIONNE cemetery #89B From the Manitowoc County Chronicle, 21 Mar. 1882: A Strange Co-incidence. Last Tuesday night Adeline Dionne, aged 25 years, daughter of Cleophas and Eliza Dionne of this city died after a long and painful illness. The funeral took place on Friday from the Catholic Church. While one daughter was being borne to the grave another was born and when those of the family who were able to attend the funeral returned from their sad journey they found a fine, healthy baby girl awaiting their care and caresses.

He was born April 7, 1859 in the town of Rhine. On Oct. 6, 1885, he was married to Miss Mary Raquet in the town of Schleswig. The couple located in Louis Corners where Mr. Dirks operated a shoe store for the past 52 years. His wife preceded him in death Oct. 11, 1933. Survivors are three children, Mrs. George Schumann of Highland Park, Ill.; Mrs. John Rosenthal of Kiel and Emil of Ada; three grandchildren, one great- grandchild, and one brother, John Dirks of Plymouth. One child died in infancy and three brothers also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the C. J. She was born September 16, 1856, on a farm two and one-half miles southeast of Kiel, which is now owned by her brother, Carl Raquet. In October, 1885, she was united in marriage to Henry Dirks, Town of Rhine, from which time on the couple resided at Louis Corners, where Mr. Dirks owns and operates a shoe store. HENRY J. DITTMANN cemetery #8 Henry Dittmann, 67, town of Centerville farmer, died at his home at 2 p.m. Friday, following an illness of several months' duration. Mr. Dittman(sic) was born November 11, 1868, in the town of Centerville, the son of the late Christian and Minnie Dittmann, and resided in that township all his life. In 1896 he was united to Miss Bertha Wilke, who survives with four children, namely: Fred of Forestville, Mrs. Fred Augustine of Sheboygan, and Alma and Walter at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Kraemer and Mrs. Ernst Berg, both of Forestville. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m., at the Dittmann home, and at 2:15 p.m. at the St. John and St. Peter Lutheran church at Cleveland. The Rev. Mr. Dittman was born June 10, 1909, the Town of Centerville, son of the late Henry and Bertha Wilke Dittmann. He attended public schools in Centerville and married Hertha Bartz Sept. 26, 1931, at Collins. They farmed in the Town of Centerville until 1957 when they moved to Manitowoc. BERTHA DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Mrs. Bertha Dittmeyer, 80, widow of Oscar, died unexpectedly on Saturday at the Sheboygan Retirement home where she had resided since November 1970. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Reverend John F. Baumann officiating. Burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. She was born December 9, 1893 at Curtiss, a daughter of the late Fred and Augusta Drake Strade. On December 25, 1917 she was married to Mr. Dittmeyer at the Reformed Church at Colby. The couple resided in Colby where Mr. Dittmeyer operated a concrete products business. They moved to Kiel in 1953. In 1967 the couple celebrated its golden wedding. Her husband preceded her in death in May 23, 1970. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and its Frauen Verein. Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Ella Schoerer of Abbotsford, Mrs. Edward Rhamlow of Appleton, Mrs. Peter Miller of Oshkosh and four brothers, Edwin Strade of Abbotsford, Harry of Oshkosh, Ben of Sheboygan and Clarence of Livermore, California.


OSCAR DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Oscar G. Dittmeyer, age 77, 718 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Saturday night at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born October 7, 1892, in the Town of Meeme, a son of the late Ludwig and Minna Klemm Dittmeyer. December 25, 1917, he and Bertha Strade of Curtiss, Wisconsin, were married. Mr. Dittmeyer served in the U.S. Army during World War I. After returning from military duty, he established a concrete products manufacturing firm in Colby, retiring in 1953 when he and his wife moved to Kiel. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, the Brotherhood, and the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99. Mr. Dittmeyer is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Ann Hensel, Sheboygan. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with the Rev. John F. JENNIE DITTRICH cemetery #82 Mrs. Jennie Dittrich passed away at the hospital in Sheboygan on Sunday, after a brief illness with a complication of diseases. Decedent, nee Roeck, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 4, 1874. She came to Kiel with her parents as a young girl and after growing to womanhood, was married in 1894 to Carl Dittrich, who preceded her in death about 12 years ago. Mrs. Dittrich continued to reside in Kiel until a few years ago, when she located at New Holstein, and about a year ago she moved to Oconomowoc with her son Eugene, where she operated a restaurant. Some months ago her health began to fail and while on a visit with her son Walter at Sheboygan she became ill and was taken to the hospital, where she died on Sunday. Mrs. Dittrich is survived by three sons, Carl of Weyauwega, Walter of Sheboygan, and Eugene of Oconomowoc. She also leaves her aged mother, Mrs. Jno. Roeck of Kiel, four brothers and four sisters as follows: Emanuel Roeck of Burlington, Christian of Kiel, John of New Holstein, Carl of Piqua, Ohio, Mrs. Ad. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, from the home of Mrs. Mary Duecker, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating at the services. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. - 1923
