DIEDRICH DICKE cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 07 Mar. 1895: Death last Sat. in Two Rivers of Diedrich Dicke at the age of 75. Mr. Dicke was born 29 Jan. 1820 in Stolzenau, Prov. Hanover. He came to America in 1846 and to Wisconsin in 1847. For a short while he worked in Cedarburg, Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers and Kewaunee, finally settling in the vicinity of Two Rivers. He was married in 1850 to Marie Hemschemeyer, a marriage that produced 2 sons and 2 daughters. One of the daughters died in 1869, leaving his widow and the other 3 children to survive him. The deceased was an uncle of Mr. W. Dicke of Manitowoc. His funeral was Tues. at the Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.
MARGERETHA DICKE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 11 Mar. 1897: Death on Tues. morning of Mrs. Margarethe Dicke (nee Vogelsang), in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. G. Lehmkuhl in Manitowoc. She was 68 yrs. 6 mos. of age, and died of old age debility. The deceased was born 1828 in Barnsdorf, Hanover, and came to America in 1849, marrying Heinrich Dicke in 1851. Her husband died in 1857 leaving her with 3 small children - 3-mos, 3-yrs. and 6-yrs. of age. The funeral took place Fri. afternoon.

Gordon J. Dickenson, age 74, of Two Rivers, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 15, 1999, at Two Rivers Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 1999, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. William G. O'Brien, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. He was born December 12, 1925, at Neopit, Wis., son of the late Ira and Cora Lafond Dickenson. He attended schools in Neopit and Sheboygan. He worked at Jungs Shoe Factory in Sheboygan and the Manitowoc Shipyards before enlisting in the Navy. He served with the United States Navy from November 29, 1944, until March 11, 1946. On May 14, 1949, he married Anna Mae Jacobosky at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed at Hamilton Mfg. Co. for 42 years, until his retirement in 1988. Gordon was a member of the Men of Holy Redeemer and the Veteran's of Foreign War. He served as a past Boy Scout leader and devoted many years of service as an attendant with the Two Rivers Religious Education Program. Gordon enjoyed gardening and working in his workshop. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae; three sons and two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, a special cousin, other relatives and friends also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hilmore and Augusta Jacobosky. Friends may call at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church after 9 a.m. Saturday, until the time of mass at 11 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation. CARL DICKMANN cemetery #82 Carl Dickmann, 42, Dies at Plymouth Death at the age of 43 years came to Carl Dickmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Dickmann, at his home in Plymouth Saturday evening. The cause of his death is given as heart disease. Up until the time of his death he had enjoyed excellent health, and only a week ago he had paid a visit to his parents here. His wife and six children remain to mourn him. The oldest of the children, Edwin, is 18, and the other children are Edna, 15, Melvin, 13, Viola, 11, Leona, 8 and Helen, 3. Besides his parents, one brother and two sisters survive, Edward A., and Mrs. Frieda Voss of Kiel, and Miss Adelia Dickmann, at St. Louis, Mo., who is at present home on a vacation. The deceased was born Dec. 27, 1884, in the town of Herman. Twenty-one years ago he was married to Miss Clara Sonnemann. About 10 years ago he moved with his family from their farm in Meeme and he purchased the Baumann meat market, which he conducted until three years ago. Since that time he has lived in Plymouth. The deceased was a member of the Eagles, which organization had charge of the funeral, the Redmen, G. U. G., and the Beavers. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, with service at the home in Plymouth, and burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. - 1927
VALENTINE DICKMANN cemetery #82 Rites Held Tuesday For Valentine Dickmann Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Valentine Dickmann, 81, who died at Sheboygan Sudnay. He had lived there with his daughter, Mrs. Frieda Voss since 1946. Funeral services were held from St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. The Rev. E. L. Worthman had charge of the services. A native of Sheboygan county, he was born October 26, 1862 on a farm in Town Herman, near Franklin, a son of Arnold and Johanna Bierman, Dickmann, pioneer residents of the county. He was married to Miss Henrietta Koeser of Town of Herman June 21, 1884. Mr. Dickman operated farms in Town of Meeme and Town Herman before moving to Kiel in 1919. He was employed as mason and bricklayer until his retirement in 1929. (no newspaper named, Oct. 1954)
CLARENCE DICKRELL cemetery #81 Clarence Dickrell Dies Unexpectedly Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Clarence J. Dickrell, 47, of 918 Fourth Street, who died last week Wednesday night at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan. He was stricken with a heart attack at his home earlier that evening. The services were held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery with the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. He was born November 16, 1916, near Hilbert, the son of Nicholas and Norma Dickrell The family moved later to the Town of Russell where he attended St. Ann’s Catholic school. On June 15, 1940, he was married to Luella Valleskey, of the Town of Schleswig. They lived in the townships where he was employed by the Valleskey Cheese Factory. For the past 15 years he was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. at New Holstein. Seven years ago he and his wife moved to Kiel. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. Surviving are his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Dickrell, New Holstein; nine sisters, Sister Mary Imelda Ann, Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc; Mrs. Edward Kasprzak, Mrs. LaVerne Minor, Mrs. Henry Turek, Mrs. Roland Mekka, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Ervin Mytko, Mrs. Glenroy Greuel, and Mrs. Alphonse Faust, all of rural Elkhart Lake and Mrs. Wilmer Krebsbach, Fond du Lac; five brothers, Nicholas, jr., Sheboygan, Leo, Roman and Cletus, all of rural Elkhart Lake and Donald, New Holstein. LUELLA DICKRELL cemetery #81 Mrs. Luella Dickrell, 51, of 918 4th St., Kiel, died Monday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital. The former Luella Valleskey was born in the Town of Schleswig on Oct. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late William and Norma Valleskey, and was confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She married Clarence Dickrell of the Town of Russell on June 15, 1940. The couple lived in Schleswig until moving to Kiel 12 years ago. Mrs. Dickrell was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. in New Holstein. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. Her husband died in 1964. A number of cousins are the only survivors. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. John Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 3 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday and at the church Thursday from noon until the time of services.
CARL DIEDERICH cemetery #89A From Der Nord Westen, 04 June 1896: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 01 June) Death on Fri. of Carl Diedrich, who suffered 2 yrs. with consumption. He was born and raised here, but worked many years in Chicago where he married, where his sisters lived, and where he was buried on Wed. of last week. His father died a few years ago, but his mother, with whom he lived his final year, is still living and is in good health.
CARL DIEDERICHS cemetery #73 OLD SETTLER OF NEWTON IS CALLED BY DEATH After a lingering illness due to infirmities of old age, Carl Diederichs, one of the pioneers of the town of Newton, died at the home of his son, Edwin Diederichs, on the farm where he had lived for more than forty years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the residence with Rev. D. W. Vriessen of the Reformed Church at Newton officiating. Mr. Diederichs was born at Elberfeld, Germany, on March 26th, 1835 and came to America with his parents in 1847, the family locating on the farm which is now owned by Edwin Diederichs, a son of the decedent, the place having been the home of the deceased all his life here. In 1877, Mr. Diederichs who was widely known in this city and in the community, where he resided, was married to Anna Carstens, who with three children survives. The children are Otto, town of Franklin, Sheboygan County; Mrs. Herman Gosse, of Elkhart Lake and Edwin Diederichs of Newton, who is secretary-manager of the Farmer’s Organization there. Mr. Diederichs was a civil war veteran having served for a year. He was prominent in affairs of his hometown and was honored by election to many offices during his life. At death, Mr. Diederichs who was 86 was one of the oldest residents of Newton. A service will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the Edwin Diederichs residence and another will be held at 2 o'clock in the Reformed church in the town of Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery, and the body will lie in state at the Leschke Funeral Home from this afternoon until it is taken to the Diederichs residence Sunday at 1 p m. Mrs. Diederichs was born Mary Carstens on June 3, 1854, in the town of Newton, the daughter of Herman and Marie Carstens, pioneer settlers of this county. On May 17, 1877, she was married to Carl Diederichs, who died 16 yean ago. Survivors are two sons, Otto of Plymouth and Edwin on the homestead farm, one daughter, Mrs. Selma Gosse of Elkhart Lake, two sisters, Mrs. Dietrich Wenholz of Mishicot and Mrs. Carl G. Schmidt of Two Rivers, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid society of the Reformed church. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Paul Schumacher will officiate and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Diedrich was born December 8, 1909, at Two Rivers, son of the late William and Bertha Tess Diedrich. He married Helen Tuck on November 25, 1933, at St. Luke Church, Two Rivers. Mr. Diedrich was employed as a Foreman at Mirro Aluminum, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Men of Holy Redeemer Church, the Two Rivers Senior Citizens and Mirro Management Club. Survivors include his wife, Helen; a son and daughter-in-law, two daughters and sons-in-law, three brothers and two sisters- in-law, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Steinberg, and a brother, Gerhardt Diedrich. Diedrich, age 91, formerly of Two Rivers, died Tuesday morning, May 7, 1996, at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilition Center where he has resided for several years. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 1996, at Klein and Stangel Funeral Home. Major Harry Litherland will officiate with burial at Forest View Cemetery. Elmer was born September 21, 1904, in Two Rivers, son of the late William and Bertha Tess Diedrich. He served in U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was employed at Mirro Aluminum Company for many years prior to his retirement. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, one brother, nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Reuben, Gerhardt, and Clarence Diedrich, and one sister, Viola Steinburg. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 1997, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. William O'Brien. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Helen was born June 15, 1906, in Duluth, Minn., daughter of the late Otto and Mary Marcelle Tuch. On November 25, 1933, she married Clarence C.(Kelly) Diedrich, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1985. Helen was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Ladies of Holy Redeemer and the Two Rivers Senior Center, where she was very active in the chorus and participated in bowling well into her 80's. She also loved crafts. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, one son and daughter-in-law, one sister, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Helen was also preceded in death by two brothers, Francis (Don) Tuch, Alvin Tuch and one sister, Mercedes Sosnosky. Friends may call at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation. ELIZABETH DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Death claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Diefenthaeler on Sunday forenoon, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, where she had been residing for a number of years. Her demise was due to the infirmities of old age, after an illness of about a week. The deceased, nee Weitzel, was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, August 8, 1839, and came to America in 1857 with her parents, who settled in the town of Rhine. She was married in 1860 to Jacob Diefenthaeler, after which the couple resided on a farm in the town of Rhine. In 1902 they disposed of the farm to their son Jacob Jr., and moved to Millhome, where they lived nine years. Eleven years ago they came to Kiel to spend their declining years. Mr. Diefenthaeler died in January, 1921. Thirteen children blessed their union of whom eight have passed away. The surviving children are a daughter and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of Kiel, Fred. of Russell, John of Schleswig, Jacob of Rhine and William of the town of New Holstein. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. June 29, 1922
JACOB DIEFENTHAELER cemetery #82 Jacob Diefenthaeler, the oldest resident of Kiel and a pioneer of the town of Rhine, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, on Monday afternoon at 1:30, at the age of 93 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Diefenthaeler was a native of Germany, where he was born December 14, 1827. He immigrated to America in 1857, coming direct to the town of Rhine, Sheboygan county. After his marriage to Elizabeth Weitzel in 1859, the couple settled on a farm in Rhine, where they lived many years. After transferring the farm to their son Jacob they moved near Millhome, where they resided almost six years. For the past nine years they have been living with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer. Mr. Diefenthaeler had always enjoyed good health up to six months ago, when he began to fail, his condition becoming gradually worse, until death called him away. The family consisted of 13 children, of whom 8 have died. He leaves his aged wife, one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer and four sons namely: Fred, and William in Russell, John in Kiel, and Jacob on the old homestead in Rhine. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Wm. Rech of the Refomed church officiating. Interment was in the Kiel cemetery.
AMELIA DIEFENTHALER cemetery #82 Mrs. Amelia Diefenthaler, 84, of ___ North St, Kiel, died this morning at the Toth Nursing Home in Chilton. The former Amelia Petzold, she was born Sept. 29, 1881, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Gustave and Paulina Petzold. On Nov. 2, 1901, she was married to William Diefenthaler of the Town of Rhine. The couple resided in Kiel for seven years before moving to a farm in the Town of New Holstein, which they operated for 39 years. They retired and returned to Kiel in 1947. Mr. Diefenthaler died in August of 1949. Mrs. Diefenthaler lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Diefenthaler Jr., before going to the nursing home. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a member of the Frauen Verein of the church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Alma) Brotkowski of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Jorgensen of Sheboygan; four sons, William Jr., and Elmer of Kiel, Harold of New Holstein, and Roland of Manitowoc; nine grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl Petzold of Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 3 p.m. Tuesday until 11 a.m., Wednesday and at the church from noon until time of services. OSCAR H. DIEFENTHALER cemetery #84 Oscar H. Diefenthaler, 77, of R. 2, Kiel, died Sunday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for six weeks. Born on Oct. 23, 1896 in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late John and Louise Schmidt Diefenthaler. He attended public school in Kiel. On Sept. 2, 1930 he married Leona Hiller in Kiel. The couple moved to the rural Kiel area. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Kasper- Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 199, Kiel, and the Manitowoc Tribe, 49, Improved Order of Redmen. (Survivors omitted for privacy) A sister and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter UCC, the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. WILLIAM DIEFENTHALER cemetery #82 William Diefenthaler Dies Sunday Morning Death came to William Diefenthaler, 74, at a Sheboygan hospital Sunday morning. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church here, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine in 1875, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Diefenthaler. He was married to the former Miss Amalia Petzoldt on Nov. 2, 1901. The couple were residents of Kiel for seven years following their marriage, and then moved to the town of New Holstein, where they resided for 39 years. They have been living at their present home, in Kiel, for the past two years. Survivors include the widow; four sons, two daughters, 8 grand- children and one great-grandchild.
HENRY DIEM, SR. cemetery #21 Henry Diem, Sr, aged 82, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday at his farm home one-quarter of a mile east of the School Hill, following a stroke which he suffered a few days ago. Deceased was born July 15, 1859 in New York, and at the age of 10 years came with his parents to a farm about one and one-half miles southwest of St. Nazianz, where he lived until 1890. In that year, he married to Mary Ann Durst and the couple established their home in St. Nazianz, where he built a new residence. For 12 years he was employed by William F. Cristel of Valders and worked for the same number of years in a canning factory. In 1914, he brought the small farm where he passed away. Survivors are the widow and two sons, Henry at home, and William of St. Nazianz. Mr. and Mrs. Diem celebrated their golden anniversary in May, two years ago. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Catholic church at School Hill, and interment was made in the St. Gregory's parish cemetery. His job was hauling freight by horses and wagon or sled from Manitowoc to the store. This trip probably took 2 days, so he may have had to stay overnight. He hated the winter months because of the cold ride. Later the train came through Valders, so he didn't have so far to travel. Christel also owned a canning factory in St. Nazianz, so late Henry was employed there. He also worked as a janitor at St. Gregory Catholic Church. He spoke of making and hauling wood for the church. The wood needed to be hauled into the basement where there were lots of tunnels and turns. ROSA BARBARA DIEM cemetery #21 Death called Mrs. Fred. Diem at her home near St. Nazianz on Saturday, May 19, her demise being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Diem, nee Rosa Barbara Mutz, was born in Wuertemberg, Germany, in 1856. She came to this country in 1879, and in 1885 was united in marriage to Fred. Diem. The couple settled on a farm near St. Nazianz where they have since been living. She was a member of the Christian Mothers society. Mrs. Diem is survived by her husband and seven children, namely: Mrs. Rose Buschmann of Denver, Colo., Clara Diem of Chicago, Ill., the Misses Marie and Flora at home, George of Arlington, Calif., and Peter and Joseph at home. Three sisters and one brother also survive her. They are: Miss Anna Mutz of St. Nazianz, Mrs. P. Mueller of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. W. Graf in Germany, and George Mutz of Chelsea, Wis. Diem, 20, son of Henry and Martha Diem, died at the farm home one mile east of School Hill, Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. He had been ill a year and had been confined to a hospital in Sheboygan for three months and at Rochester, Minn., for four weeks. He was born Feb. 9, 1920 at the farm near School Hill, and was graduated from Kiel High school in 1939 with high honors. Survivors are his parents, one brother, Raymond, a sister, Delores, at home, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Diem, Sr., town Meeme, and Fred Guetschow, Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Meiselwitz funeral home and at 2 o’clock at Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. Harold O. Gunwald officiating, with burial in Rockville cemetery. The body can be seen at the funeral home from Tuesday noon on. EDWARD DIETL cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 13 Aug. 1903: Eduard Diedl, a well-known resident of our city, died of a stroke Wed. morning. Mr. Diedl had suffered a stroke several months ago from which he recovered, but suffered another yesterday morning as he returned from a shopping trip to the meat market. Mr. Diedl was born 14 July 1842 in Leobschütz, Austria, and soon came to America in 1849. He occupied a farm in Neshoto for a long time but moved to Manitowoc several years ago. He is survived by his widow and 2 children, namely, a son Frank who resides in Milwaukee, and a daughter here, Mrs. Mary Herzog. The funeral will probably be held Sat. afternoon, but the specific details have not yet been announced.

In response to a telegram advising him of his father’s death, Charles Diedrich arrived here last evening and his sisters Louise and Marie are expected today. His father was Carl L. Diedrich who had lived in New York before coming here where he worked in the chair factory. (See also entry of 24 July. Burial described in issue of 04 Sept.) JOHANN G. DIETRICH cemetery #89B Manitowoc Co. Chronicle, Two Rivers Tuesday, Aug. 7, 1888 Died - At the residence of his son-in-law in this city on August 2 1888. J.G. Dietrich aged 78 years. J.G. Dietrich was one of the first settlers of Milwaukee, having located there when the town only contained two dozen houses - about 50 years ago. He continued to reside in Milwaukee until about twelve years ago when he moved to this place where he owned some property. He was a tailor by trade and a pretty successful business man. Although he was never robust in health, he carefully preserved his vital forces so that he more than reached the three-score and ten years allotted to man. He was a most devout Catholic and his funeral last Saturday took place from the Catholic church. He was born in Lindenfels, Kessem(sic) Darmstedt, June 26, in the year 1810. In 1836 he crossed the Atlantic and settled at Detroit. Three years later, in 1839, he took up his residence in Milwaukee. There were only 14 German families in Milwaukee when he settled there. Twenty-four years later he moved to St. Lawrence, Wis., and in 1875 he came here. He had 10 children, 6 daughters and 4 sons. Only four of his children are now living. They are Mrs. P.W. Berkhauser of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Frances Tiersch, Mrs. Jos. Rehrauer and Mrs. Frank Wolf of this city. His aged wife and companion also still survives him.

ADELINE DIONNE cemetery #89B From the Manitowoc County Chronicle, 21 Mar. 1882: A Strange Co-incidence. Last Tuesday night Adeline Dionne, aged 25 years, daughter of Cleophas and Eliza Dionne of this city died after a long and painful illness. The funeral took place on Friday from the Catholic Church. While one daughter was being borne to the grave another was born and when those of the family who were able to attend the funeral returned from their sad journey they found a fine, healthy baby girl awaiting their care and caresses.

BERTHA DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Mrs. Bertha Dittmeyer, 80, widow of Oscar, died unexpectedly on Saturday at the Sheboygan Retirement home where she had resided since November 1970. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Reverend John F. Baumann officiating. Burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. She was born December 9, 1893 at Curtiss, a daughter of the late Fred and Augusta Drake Strade. On December 25, 1917 she was married to Mr. Dittmeyer at the Reformed Church at Colby. The couple resided in Colby where Mr. Dittmeyer operated a concrete products business. They moved to Kiel in 1953. In 1967 the couple celebrated its golden wedding. Her husband preceded her in death in May 23, 1970. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and its Frauen Verein. Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Ella Schoerer of Abbotsford, Mrs. Edward Rhamlow of Appleton, Mrs. Peter Miller of Oshkosh and four brothers, Edwin Strade of Abbotsford, Harry of Oshkosh, Ben of Sheboygan and Clarence of Livermore, California.
OSCAR DITTMEYER cemetery #82 Oscar G. Dittmeyer, age 77, 718 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Saturday night at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born October 7, 1892, in the Town of Meeme, a son of the late Ludwig and Minna Klemm Dittmeyer. December 25, 1917, he and Bertha Strade of Curtiss, Wisconsin, were married. Mr. Dittmeyer served in the U.S. Army during World War I. After returning from military duty, he established a concrete products manufacturing firm in Colby, retiring in 1953 when he and his wife moved to Kiel. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel, the Brotherhood, and the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post 99. Mr. Dittmeyer is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Ann Hensel, Sheboygan. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with the Rev. John F. JENNIE DITTRICH cemetery #82 Mrs. Jennie Dittrich passed away at the hospital in Sheboygan on Sunday, after a brief illness with a complication of diseases. Decedent, nee Roeck, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 4, 1874. She came to Kiel with her parents as a young girl and after growing to womanhood, was married in 1894 to Carl Dittrich, who preceded her in death about 12 years ago. Mrs. Dittrich continued to reside in Kiel until a few years ago, when she located at New Holstein, and about a year ago she moved to Oconomowoc with her son Eugene, where she operated a restaurant. Some months ago her health began to fail and while on a visit with her son Walter at Sheboygan she became ill and was taken to the hospital, where she died on Sunday. Mrs. Dittrich is survived by three sons, Carl of Weyauwega, Walter of Sheboygan, and Eugene of Oconomowoc. She also leaves her aged mother, Mrs. Jno. Roeck of Kiel, four brothers and four sisters as follows: Emanuel Roeck of Burlington, Christian of Kiel, John of New Holstein, Carl of Piqua, Ohio, Mrs. Ad. Zimmermann of Mellen, Mrs. Mary Duecker, Mrs. Gust. Stoelting and Mrs. Oscar Kazmeier of Kiel, and one grandchild. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, from the home of Mrs. Mary Duecker, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating at the services. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. - 1923
CHARLES T. DOBBERT cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 22 July 1909: Death from old age debility on Sunday of Carl Theodor Dobbert, one of the oldest and well-known German citizens of our community. The deceased was born 24 December 1830 in Molzahn, Pomerania, and came to America and to Manitowoc in 1851 where he has resided ever since. He opened a shoemaker shop here, but toward the end of the 50’s opened a tannery which he operated with great success until retiring about 15 years ago. He leaves his widow, 2 sons and 3 daughters. A remarkable coincidence occurred when the wall clock stopped at the very moment of Dobbert’s demise. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon.

Allan J. Dobbs, age 62, of Two Rivers, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, June 28, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Louis Sievert, with burial to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Allan was born April 19, 1941, in Rhinelander, a son of the late Charles and Amanda (Kriesel) Dobbs. He graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1959, and also completed two years of college at the University of Wisconsin — Superior. On Oct. 1, 1962, he married Betty Lou Frayer at Three Lakes. The couple then moved to Two Rivers where he started working for Bills Mobil. Allan also worked for East Side Auto, and managed the Zephyr Station in Two Rivers for a number of years, before becoming employed by the Two Rivers School District. He worked for the school district for 27 years at both, Washington High School and Magee Elementary School, retiring in 2001. Allan was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and former member of the Two Rivers Lions Club. He was an avid baseball fan, and loved the Milwaukee Brewers. Survivors include his wife: Betty; one son, one granddaughter, and his mother-in-law. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, two nieces, his pet Siamese kitty, Cleo, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Charles Jr. and Ken Dobbs: and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ramona and Charles Schiman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Larry Seidi, with entombment to follow in Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. Charlotte was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Edward and Selinde Brocher Colanchick. She attended school in Two Rivers, and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1944. On Sept. 20, 1947, she married Kenneth E. Dodge at St. Luke Catholic Church. Charlotte was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where she was active with the Ladies of St. Luke/St. Mark; a member of the Two Rivers Ladies Elks where she served as call chairperson; member and volunteer of the Two Rivers Historical Society, and was a former Brownie leader. She and Ken were "adopted grandparents" for the first through third-grade students at T.R.C.C.S. for the past three years. Charlotte enjoyed knitting and gardening, and her grandchildren were always precious to her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family, but will live on in our hearts forever. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dodge; two sons, five daughters, seven beloved grandchildren. She is further survived by one brother, and one sister-in-law, many other relatives and friends, especially the "Clubbers." Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law. Orrin and Dorothy Dodge, and by infant twin brothers. Kenneth E. Dodge, age 77, of Two Rivers, died Peacefully Friday night, Oct. 3, 2003 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, with his family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Oct. 8, 2003 at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, St. Luke Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Wm. G. O'Brien, with entombment to follow at the Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the VFW and American Legion Post of Two Rivers. Ken was born April 20, 1926, in Two Rivers, son of the late Orrin & Dorothy (Yelmene) Dodge. He attended St. Mark Catholic School, and was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School, where he was active in numerous sports. From 1944 to 1946, Ken served his country in the United States Army, during World War II, having served in Germany & France. During this period, he also played with the "Blue Devil's Football Team" of the 36th Infantry Division. On Sept. 20, 1947, he married Charlotte A. Colanchick at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 2001. Kenny worked for several years for the Sorge Dairy of Sturgeon Bay, before opening his own service station in Two Rivers, known as "Dodge's Union 76". He owned & operated the station for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Ken served for numerous years on the Two Rivers City Council, of which he was past president; he was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1957, Two Rivers; and a member of the Two Rivers Historical Society, VFW Post #1248, the Two Rivers Senior Center, and a life-long member of St. Mark's Catholic Parish. He was also a 40-year, past member of the Two Rivers Elk's Lodge #1380, and the Two Rivers Kiwanis Club. For many years, Charlotte & Ken were "adopted grandparents" for students of TRCCS. Kenny enjoyed boating, fishing, and many years at their trailer at Chaudoir's Dock. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden, and was an avid Packer Fan. He is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, five daughters & two sons-in-law, seven grand-children, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, especially the "Clubbers.~ In addition to his parents & wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Mildred Dodge, one sister, Janet Rudebeck, one nephew, Tom Dodge, and a brother-in-law, Alton Colanchick. She was the sister of Messrs. W., Joseph, Stephan and Anton Krainik of Manitowoc. She and her husband made their home in Milwaukee. She is survived by her husband and a 2 yr. old son.
LEONA DOERFLER cemetery #89C Leona Doerfler, age 92, a resident of the Manitowoc Health Care Center died Thursday afternoon Oct. 17, 2002 at the Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday (TODAY), Oct. 19, 2002 at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Roberta Thomson with burial on Monday at Forest View Cemetery. Leona was born April 19, 1910 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Wenzel C. and Mary Swoboda Doleysh. On May 4, 1937 Leona married Maynard W. Doerfler in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1967. Leona was employed at Jerry’s South Side Bakery for many years. She was an active member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, calling bingo, arranging tours and participating in the Kitchen Band and Chorus. Leona hardly missed a day until her health prevented her attendance. Survivors include a daughter-in-law: a grandson two great-grandsons, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Besides her husband, Leona was preceded in death by a son, Vernon D. Doerfler; a grand-son, Todd E. Doerfler; two sisters, Dorothy Ninmer and Helen Plansky; and a dear friend Henry Greenwood. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 (TODAY) at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Two Rivers. I have independent sources for their birth and death dates (including the church records from Bischofsgrün, Bavaria, where JF Doersch was baptized. JW Doersch is his older brother. She had the privilege of presenting the diploma to the last graduate of Washington High School, class of 2002. She married Theodore (Ted) Dohr on Sept. 14, 1926 in Saukville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1983. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, one sister and brother-in-law. She is further survived by four grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Kathleen Seder: one brother: Lincoln Ahrens; a sister: Gladys Curtis: and a grandson: Paul Pappas. On May 14, 1955 she married Carl Domenoski at St. Lukes Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Pat is survived by her husband: Carl Domenoski, three sons and one daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, one sister and brother-in-law, two nieces, one nephew: two very special friends. Other relatives and friends also survive. Pat was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law: Otto Jr. and Mary Ann Blaha; her mother and father-in-law: Ben and Martha Domenoski; and one nephew: Thomas Blaha. He married the former Martha Waier on November 24, 1925, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed at Mirro Company for many years until his retirement. Ben was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. She was a resident of Hilbert for the past 14 years, but had lived in this vicinity prior to that. Funeral services were held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home here on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. E.L. Worthman in charge. Burial was in the Eaton cemetery. Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. S.A. Huebner, Forest Junction; a son, Howard, New Holstein; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, mrs. Lena Matter, Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by a son Norris in 1932, three brothers and three sisters.
NORRIS DOMKE cemetery #20 Following an illness of several years’ duration, Norris Domke, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Domke of near Meggers, passed away at the home of his parents at 3:30 Saturday morning. Cause of his death was diabetes. He had attended the Meggers district school, and the Kiel high school for two years, but was forced to discontinue his studies because of his health. He was born in Charlestown February 13, 1914 and death occurred on his birthday. He is survived by his parents, one brother Howard of here, and a sister, Miss Angela, who teaches school in Forest junction. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the home and at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. J. W. MacElree officiating. Two hymns, “No Night There,” and “The Mercy Seed,” were sung by a sextet consisting of Mrs. E. M. Duecker, Mrs. Henry Meiselwitz, Mrs. Roy Nelson, Mrs. H. C. Mesch, Mrs. M. C. Timm, and Mrs. Hugo Neumann. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Manz, Earl Voland, Bobbie Bahr, Walter Jaeger, and Eugene and Daniel Nauth. Active pallbearers were cousins of the deceased - Herbert and Louis Mattes, Frederick Rosenbauer, Martin Juno, Wilbert Weber and Fred Holm. Interment was in the Eaton cemetery. THOMAS DONAHUE cemetery #43 Manitowoc Pilot on Thursday, January 20, 1898: Thomas Donohue of this city died on Friday last aged 81. He was born in Ireland but came to this country when young and enlisted in the army taking part in the Mexican War. When discharged at the close of the war he came west. He stepped aboard the same boat in Buffalo on which Henry Mulholland and family were coming west to enter upon a pioneer life. Donohue had a soldier's land warrant and he accompanied Mulholland to Meeme and entered 80 acres of land in Liberty. This was in 1850. He disposed of his farm a few years ago and has since resided in the city. He was a man of sturdy character, honest and independent. (Although the obituary does not mention survivors, it appears that the surviving children of Thomas Donahue included the following: Mrs. John (Bridget) Shimunok of Milwaukee county; Mrs. James (Sarah) Hall, Mrs. James (Mary Ellen) McGinnis and Mrs. Hugh (Catherine) McGinnis, all of Florence, Snohomish County, Washington; and Mrs. William (Margaret) Sherer, James Donahue, and Alice Donahue (later Mrs. Robert Puls), all of Manitowoc.) RUDOLPH DONATH cemetery #82 Rudolph Donath, aged 75, 836 Seventh street, passed away at the Memorial hospital in Sheboygan on Tuesday, after being there for two weeks after he had fractured some ribs by falling on a sidewalk. Mr. Donath was born May 6, 1876 in the town of Schleswig, son of Frederick and Johanna Koinke Donath. He lived on the homestead farm until 1946, when he moved to his present residence. He was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Hulda) Ross, Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Charles (Flora) Allinger, Milwaukee, and one brother Arno, also of Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held from the Meiselwitz Funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery.

Death followed soon after. Donovan was 85 years old and leaves his widow, 3 sons and 2 daughters. (Note: The stone only says Father, but this is the only Donovan I have in the cemeteries who died in 1909/there is a discrepancy in the time of the accident from one article to the other, but does appear to be the same person)

She was born September 14, 1892, in the town of Maple Grove, daughter of the late William and Margaret Sullivan Mullins. She married John Doolan, June 17, 1914, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Maple Grove. She graduated from Reedsville High School and Stevens Point State Normal College. She taught school prior to her marriage in 1914. She then farmed with her husband in the town of Franklin. She was a life time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Maple Grove and St. Patrick's Alter Society. Survivors include five daughters and three sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Welch, Grimms. She was preceded in death by her husband, May 1, 1969, one daughter, Athlyn O’Connell, three sons-in-law, Clifton O’Connell, George Schlei, Allan Raether, one granddaughter, Kim Schlei, three sisters and two brothers. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, Reedsville, from 4-8 p.m. Monday and on Tuesday from 7:45-10:30 a.m. when Family Rites will be held. Alter Society Prayer Services at 7 p.m. Monday. JOHN W. DOOLAN cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 11 Oct. 1906: J.W. Doolan, a well-known resident of our city where he has lived since 1866, died Friday after several months of illness from a combination of lung and heart disease. The deceased was born 65 years ago in Ireland and came to America as a 2-year old child. His parents settled in Kossuth and the deceased lived there ever since. He served with the 21st Wisconsin Regiment during the Civil War and came back to Manitowoc after his discharge. He is survived by a widow, 7 children, 2 brothers and a sister. The funeral was held Monday from Sacred Heart Church. The local post of the G.A.R., to which Doolan belonged, gave their old comrade the last salute.

Death claimed Mrs. Egard Dorn at her home two miles west of Kiel in the town of New Holstein, Tuesday morning at 2:30, after one year’s suffering with cancer of the breast. Katie Nehrling was born in Wauwatosa; Wis., August 8th, 1862, and united in marriage in 1885 to Egard Dorn. Sixteen years ago the couple settled on the farm in the town of New Holstein, where they have since resided. The union was blessed with 12 children, 5 daughters and 7 sons; two sons and one daughter preceded the mother in death. She reached the age of 57 years and 11 days, and leaves to mourn her husband and nine children, namely: Marie, Elisabeth, Johanna, Marguerite, William, John, Peter, George and Frank; also one brother survives her. The funeral will take place Thursday morning at 10 o’clock, services to be held in the St. Peter and Paul’s church, Rev. Rumpel officiating, Interment will be in the church cemetery. Sept. 1919

VACLAV DOUBEK cemetery #18 Vaclav Doubek/narozen/20 Zari 1861/zemrel/22 Ledna 1894 (stone reads W. Doubek) From the Manitowoc Pilot, January 25, 1894: Wenzel Doubek of Cooperstown died quite suddenly on Monday morning while on his way to the house of a neighbor with whom he was to come to Manitowoc for service on the jury. He was one of the jurors of the circuit court now in session in this city, and started out to walk about a quarter of a mile and dropped dead on the road before reaching his neighbor's house. The evening before, he was quite cheerful and played a game of cards with his brother. He said he would have to retire early as he was required to be in Manitowoc at 9 o'clock the following morning. He was a young married man, and leaves a wife and three children. Heart difficulty was probably the cause of his death.
