ANDREW CHRISTENSEN cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 10 Jan. 1907: About two weeks ago sailor Andrew Christiansen, while making repairs on the schooner “Two Myrtles”, fell about six feet into the hold and was so badly injured that he had to be taken to Holy Family Hospital. Christiansen, 77, of 624 Buffalo St., Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a brief illness. He had been living for the past six years with a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alma Christiansen. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He was born March 16, 1882, at Manitowoc, son of the late Andrew and Anna Hanson Christiansen. He was an oiler on the old whaleback Columbus for the Goodrich Line and later worked for McMullen and Pitz Marine Construction Co. until he retired 12 years ago. DONALD L. CHRISTENSEN cemetery #44 Donald L. Christensen, age 71, of 2212 Clark St., Manitowoc, died late Sunday morning, Dec. 11, 2005, surrounded by his loving family at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish-Marshall Site, Manitowoc. Concelebrating the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Thomas Wojciechowski and Don's nephew, the Rev. Robert Stegmann, with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Donald was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Manitowoc, son of the late Roy and Elizabeth Kohlbeck Christensen. Don was educated at Manitowoc Public Grade Schools and attended Lincoln High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. On April 14, 1956, he married Marlene Check at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Don was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, as a painter and sandblaster for 31 years, retiring from the Manitowoc Company in 1997. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local 499, where he served as president and union steward. He loved painting, boating, fishing and playing sheepshead (especially when he won). Don enjoyed traveling, especially going to the U.S. Navy Blue Angel Air Shows. Don was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, where he served as an usher, and was a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served as a communion distributor and an usher. He also coached little hoopers basketball. (Survivors omitted for privacy) He was also preceded in death by an infant twin brother: Daniel Christensen; three brothers: Kenneth Kohlbeck; Victor Kohlbeck; and Norbert (Harriet) Kohlbeck; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Anna Check Sr.; goddaughter: Elizabeth Check; Jack Konop, Robert Kleman and Leatrice Check. The family will greet relatives and friends at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels of Two Rivers on Tuesday evening (TONIGHT), from 4 to 8 p.m., where a prayer service, led by Deacon Alan Boeldt, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish-Marshall Site, Manitowoc, on Wednesday morning, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Don loved God, life and family. EMMA CHRISTENSEN cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 17 Aug. 1882: Death of Mrs. Emma Christensen (nee Burmeister), wife of Mr. Hans Christensen, early Tues. morning. The deceased was born 30 Aug. 1853 in Manitowoc, and married Mr. Christensen 01 June 1873. Recently they suffered the sudden loss of their little son. The deceased leaves her husband with three sons and her parents, Capt. and Mrs. Wm. Burmeister, and sisters. Burial will take place today at 2pm.

Gertrude C. Christensen, age 92, a resident of the Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers, formerly of 2401 Polk St., died quietly late Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at the Hamilton Home, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Parish, St. Luke site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William G. O'Brien, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Gertrude was born April 26, 1911 in Two Rivers, a daughter of the late Milford and Meta (Ammerman) Henrickson. She attended St. Luke Parochial School, and Two Rivers Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1928. After high school, Gertrude worked for a law firm in Two Rivers for a couple years before becoming employed with Hamilton Mfg. Co., where she worked as a stenographer until 1937. On Oct. 2, 1937 she was united in marriage to Nelmer L. Christensen at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He preceded her in death March 30, 1972. She then took time to raise her family, before returning to work in 1960 at the City Dairy in Two Rivers. In 1962, she became employed at the Lakeview Net Co., where she worked until her retirement in 1978. She was a lifetime member of the St. Luke Ladies Altar Society, and a charter member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, where she enjoyed singing with the Senior Center Chorus and the Senior Center Mello- Tones group. Gertie enjoyed shopping, but above all enjoyed the time spent with her family. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; one son and daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by one sister, special friends, many nieces, nephews, and her many friends at the Two Rivers Senior Center. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Joan Kumbalek; one brother and sister-in-law; Dick (Charlotte) Henrickson; and a nephew: Rick Henrickson. OSCAR CHRISTENSON/CHRISTENSEN cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 18 May 1899: Mon. morning Oscar Christensen, a ship's carpenter, suffered a stroke while at work at the shipbuilding yard of Messrs. Burger & Burger and died within a few minutes. The 23-yr. old deceased was unmarried and lived with his father Andrew Christensen. His funeral will take place today. The deceased, who was born 16 December 1828 in Norway, died of heart disease. She leaves 6 children. Her funeral was held yesterday in Jerpen. (Note: Apparently the reporter got her name a bit wrong)

Mrs. Christiansen was born in Algoma, Wis. on 18 Jan. 1865 and married her now surviving husband in 1883, since which time she resided in our city. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son and her sorrowing mother who lives in Algoma. The funeral will be Sun. afternoon from the funeral home on the corner of 4th and Commercial Sts. Mr. Christiansen was born 06 Feb. 1817 in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, and came to America in 1866. He lived in Two Rivers until 1882, then moved to Kings Bridge, and finally moved to Manitowoc in 1886 where he has lived ever since. In addition to his widow he is survived by 6 children, namely, Fred, Peter and Mathias who live here, Emil in Bar Harbor, Ohio, George in Milwaukee, and Ferdinand in Sheboygan. The deceased had operated a large mercantile store and brewery in Germany. His funeral will be held this afternoon from the funeral home at 7 York St. under the direction of Pastor Zenk of the Reformed Church.

PETER CHRISTIANSEN cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 20 Aug. 1908: Death Friday of Peter Christiansen, a well-known resident of our city, at the home of his son, Policeman Wm. Christiansen, where he had been living for about a year. He had come to Two Rivers from Germany as a youth. For several years he served as a postal transporter between Two Rivers and Kewaunee and operated a loan office in both of these towns. Later he moved to Manitowoc and opened a boarding house near Goodrich dock, along with a store. He sold out two years later when he became ill. His wife preceded him in death many years ago. He is survived by the above mentioned son, as well as by his 84-year old mother and 4 brothers. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. [bur. 08-16-1908/cause: heart failure]
RAY L. CHRISTIANSEN cemetery #82 Ray L. Christiansen, 78, of 914 Cleveland St., Kiel, died Saturday evening, June 15, 2002 at his home following a recent struggle with cancer. He was born April 13, 1924 in Cleveland Ohio, son of the late Leslie and Ganelle Losie Christiansen. Ray was a graduate of Whitefish Bay High School, Milwaukee. He also attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Northwest Podiatry College, Chicago. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II. On April 13, 1949, he married Florene “Chris” Prowse. Ray was a district sales manager for Penray Automotive Chemical Co., in Elk Grove Village, Ill., from 1968 until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, the Kiel Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Model Aircraft Association of Sheboygan. Ray enjoyed aircrafts, watching storms, radio-controlled model air-craft, “crusin” and dining out. (Survivors omitted for privacy) He was preceded in death by on granddaughter, Deedra Christiansen. ALFRED CHRISTIANSON cemetery #41 Alfred Christianson, 74, of Valders died at his home Tuesday following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Valders Evangelical Lutheran Church. Intern Loren Espeland will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Christianson was born Oct. 3, 1885, in the Town of Cato, son of the late Severin and Anna Anderson Christianson. A dairy farmer in the town of Cato, he retired about four years ago and moved to the Village of Valders. He married the former Tilda Torrison, May 11, 1911, at Valders. He was president of the Valders School board for 29 years, director of the Quarry-Riverside telephone exchange for many years, was a member of the church brotherhood and held a number of church offices. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Raymond and Wilfred of Valders and Leroy on the home farm; three brothers, Victor of Arthur, Iowa, and Walter and Wilmer of Valders; two sisters, Mrs. Olga Torrison and Mrs. Gilford Berge, of Valders; and 11 grandchildren. A lifelong Manitowoc resident, he married Ellen FitzGerald Sept 18, 1911, at St. Boniface Church. Before retirement in May of 1953, he had been employed 48 years by Kingsbury Breweries. He was a foreman in the bottling house. Mr. Christoff was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church, Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Brewers and Maltsters Local 297. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Earl Pruitt of Manitowoc; a son, George Jr., of Chalfont, Pa.; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Goff and Mrs. Herman Beck of Manitowoc and Mrs. Anna Gleason and Mrs. Howard Keup of Milwaukee; six granchildren and five great grandchildren. MARY CHRISTOFF cemetery #43 Death came to Mrs. Mary Christoff, 83, Sunday noon while she was being removed from her home, 1115 S. 12th street, to the Holy Family hospital in an ambulance. The body was taken to the Pfeffer funeral home, and friends may call there this evening and until the time of services Wednesday, 8:30 at the funeral home, and at 9 o'clock at St. Boniface Catholic church with the Rev. Alfred Pritzel officiating. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of the St. Anne CMA will pray for the deceased with the pastor at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday. THERESA CHRISTOFF cemetery #43 Mrs. Frank Christoff, 73, a resident of Manitowoc county for the past 18 years, died this morning at the Holy Family hospital after a lingering illness. Mrs. Christoff and her husband have been making their home with their daughter, Mrs. Ben Burkhardt, route 3, Manitowoc. The funeral will be Thursday, 8:30 at the Pfeffer funeral home, and at 9 o'clock a requiem mass will be offered by the Rev. Henry Letz in St. Andrew church. Interment will be in the Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state after 7 o'clock today at the funeral parlor. Mrs. Christoff, nee Theresa Oberhofer, was born Dec. 18, 1871, in Germany, and when two years old was brought to America settling in Luxemburg, Kewaunee county. Fifty three years ago she was united in marriage with Frank Christoff, who survives with three daughters, Mrs. Burkhardt, route 3; Mrs. Charles Novak, city, and Mrs. William Kleman, Rockwell. Three sisters, Mrs. John Lensmeyer, Gillett; Mrs. Charles Rank, Green Bay and Mrs. Andrew Dax, Luxemburg, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren, also survive. AMELIA "GRETCHEN" CHRISTOFFEL cemetery #89D Amelia "Gretchen" Christoffel, age 83, a resident of Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 19, 2005, at the home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William G. O'Brien with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Gretchen was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Otto and Eva (Morency) Kruse. She attended St. Luke's Grade School and Washington High School. On June 23, 1945, she married Roland "Ozzie" Christoffel, in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1984. Gretchen was a charter member of the Rogers Street Fishing Village and was also a member of the Historical Society and the Senior Center. She was a historian for the Rogers Street Fishing Village and the Historical Society. Survivors include a daughter, and her son, a son and daughter-in-law, and their children, a great-granddaughter, a sister, three brothers. She is further survived by a brother-in-law, a special friend, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Francis Shimanek and two brothers: Kenneth and Lyle Kruse. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Deja Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. A prayer service, led by Fr. He married Margaret Trester at Sheboygan in 1900, where he had earlier been employed. She preceded him in death 10 years ago. Michael was born May 24, 1954 in Two Rivers, son of Walter and Leona (Monk), Christoffel. He attended St. John's grade school and Washington High School graduating with the class of 1973. Michael was employed at the Holiday House of Manitowoc County in Manitowoc. He enjoyed traveling, shopping, collecting seashells, Star Wars and space memorabilia and flea markets. CLARA CHRISTOPHERSON cemetery #41 A sad death occurred in this city on Friday the 5th, Mrs. Sever Christopherson yielded up her young life after a brave struggle against tuberculosis for the past eight months. A severe cold caught in May last brought on the disease which made rapid inroads on strength and vitality with the inevitable results. Clara Nelson was born in Eaton, Manitowoc County, Jan. 31, 1884, and was scarcely 22 years of age at the time of her death. She was married to Sever Christopherson Nov 24, 1903, coming with him to this city where she has since resided. She was a beautiful young woman, full of life and ambition until stricken with ill health, and universal sympathy is extended to her husband in his sad bereavement. The funeral was held from the residence on Tuesday at 10 o’clock a.m. with services in the Lutheran church of Valders at 1:30 p.m., Rev. A. O. Alfsen officiating, and interment in the family lot in Eaton. The deceased is survived by a husband, her parents and three sisters, Lena and Alma of Eaton and Mrs. Chas. Green of Chicago. LADONIA CHVALA cemetery #34 Mrs. Wencel Chvala Sr. (photo), 57, of Rt. 1, Maribel, died Saturday night at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. She had suffered a stroke at home Wednesday.
