ANNA BEDBUR cemetery #89B FORMER RESIDENT MISCHICOTT, PASSES AWAY IN THIS CITY Funeral of Mrs. Bedbur Held at Two Rivers Today—60 Yrs. of Age Mrs. Weinand Bedbur, a former resident of Mischicot but for a years past residing on the Plank road at the city limits, died at her home Saturday after a few days’ illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held from St. Luke’s church at Two Rivers today. Mrs. Bedbur was 50 years of age and a native of Bohemia, coming here with her parents in 1861, the family locating on a farm. EDWIN S. BEDELL cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 26 Aug. 1897: A telegram came from Buffalo on Tues. that one of the veterans taking part in the encampment of the G.A.R. aboard the steamship "Moore", Manitowoc resident E.S. Bedell, had fallen in the ship's hold and died as the result of injuries received. He was about 60 yrs. of age. ********* From Der Nord Westen, 02 Sept. 1897: The body of E. S. JENNIE BEDELL cemetery #44 MRS. JENNIE BEDELL, OLD RESIDENT OF COUNTY, DEAD Another of the pioneer settlers of Manitowoc county has crossed the border of life to death, Mrs. Jennie Bedell, a resident here for the greater part of the seventy-six years of her life, having passed away at the home of her son E.S. Bedell with whom she had made her home for years. Mrs. Bedell's death occurred Thursday evening and the funeral will be held from the home Sunday at 1:30. Mrs. Bedell was born at Livertyville, Ill, Feb. 10, 1840 and came to Manitowoc with her parents as a child and ???? since resided here. Mrs. Bedell had been ill for some time and for two weeks had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Bedell was a woman of strong character, possessing a lovable disposition and was held in high esteem in all with whom she came in contact. One son, Edward, of this city, survives, her husband having died some years ago. Three sister, Mrs. H. Maginnis of New Britian, Conn., Mrs. ??? Dudley of California and Mrs. R. Pierce of ??? Jerdan, Mich., and two brothers, ???wler Steele, East Jordan and William Steele of Geneva, Neb., also survive. CHARLES L. BEDUHN cemetery #33 Charles L. Beduhn, age 76, formerly of Manitowoc, died Thursday, December 28, 2000, at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2001, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Van Ert. Final resting place will be Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth. Charles was born January 28, 1924, in Two Rivers, son of the late Walter and Margaret Sibenhorn Beduhn. He was educated in Two Rivers and graduated with the class of 1941 from Washington High School. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Charles served in the United States Navy in the Pacific. He married Eloise Arndt on March 20, 1948, in Manitowoc. Charles began his career at Hamilton Industries and served as a corporate officer in various wood manufacturing operations across the country until his retirement in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Eloise Beduhn, one son, one daughter, one grandson, one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel and Bert. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Manitowoc is assisting the Beduhn family with arrangements. HUGO BEDUHN cemetery #44 HOME FOR VISIT, YOUTH STRICKEN, DEATH IN FEW DAYS Hugo Beduhn, Employed at Detroit, Visits Parents Here, Suffers Attack of Pneumonia and Passes Away Sunday Hugo Beduhn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beduhn, 1321 South 11th street, died at the hospital last night after a short illness of pleuro-pneumonia. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 from the German Lutheran church. The death of Mr. Beduhn is a severe shock to family and friends. He returned here two weeks ago from Detroit, where he had been employed, for a visit to his parents and to recuperate from what he believed was only a severe cold, but which developed into pneumonia. Mr. Beduhn was removed to the hospital following the attack and his condition became gradually worse and late yesterday hope was abandoned and death came last evening. Decedent was 18 years of age, having been born in this city Jan. 1, 1899. He attended the local schools and after leaving school became an apprentice in the machinist trade, securing a position at Detroit where he had been employed for some time. Besides his parents, Mr. Beduhn is survived by two brothers, William this city and Richard at Kiel. CHARLES BEECK cemetery #89A Charles Beeck, 81 (photo), 1502 13th street, Two Rivers, retired farmer, died this morning. He had been ill four years. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Emanuel Evangelical church in Two Rivers. Burial will be in Pioneers Rest cemetery. He was born in the town of Two Rivers, in 1862 and in 1890 married Miss Mathilda Zoerb in this city. They located in Two Rivers, where Mr. Beeck was employed at the Mann plant. Later the family moved to Port Washington. Returning to Two Rivers, he entered the employ of the Koening aluminum plant. In 1908 he purchased a farm in the town of Two Rivers and operated it until eight eyars ago when it was sold to his son, Walter. The couple observed their golden wedding in this city in 1940. Survivors are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Albert Gauthier of Wausaukee, Miss Viola Beeck of Two Rivers and Mrs. Frank Nicholson of Milwaukee; three sons, Erwin Beeck of Schullsburg, Roland of St. Ignace, Mich., and Walter of the town of Two Rivers; two brothers, Fred Beeck of Two Rivers and Henry Beeck of Sheboygan. Seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. GILBERT BEECK cemetery #63 Gilbert Beeck. 59, of the Village of Mishicot. died Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishicot. The. Rev. Herbert Kesting will officiate and burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery. The Mishicot V.F.W. will hold graveside services. Mr. Beeck was born May 30, 1917. at Orgon. Wis., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland and Irma Schmidt Beeck. He was employed by Manitowoc Engineering Co. He married Edna Blank May 23, 1942 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishicot V.F.W. Post 7753 and he was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Beeck of St. Ignace, Mich.; a son, (private), two daughters, (private) four brothers, Melvin, of Spokane, Wash., Russell, of St. Ignace, Leland, of Rapid River, Mich., and Charles, of Sanford, Mich.: a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ramona) Akers, of St. Ignace five granddaughters and two step grandchildren. HAROLD V. BEEMAN cemetery #44 Harold V. Beeman, age 76, of 1325 N. 8th St., Manitowoc, died Friday, December 3, 1999, at his residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 1999, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Robert Drobka, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. He was born May 14, 1923, in Two Rivers, son of the late Harold and Clara Williquette Beeman. Harold served in the United States Army during World War II as part of the Air Corp. On February 16, 1946, he married the former Lorraine Boeder. The couple separated in September of 1966. Harold worked at Mirro from 1950 until 1971, and then worked at the Manitowoc Engineering Co. until his retirement in 1984. Harold was a member of the V.F.W. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, one daughter, seven grandchildren, three great grand-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Clara; and one sister, Eunice Naumann. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening visitation. JOSEPH A. BEERNTSEN cemetery #44 Joseph A. Beerntsen, 80, of 1817 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Manitowoc. The Rev. George Knudson will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, with graveside military rites by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post 88. Mr. Beerntsen was born Nov. 14, 1889, at Green Bay, son of the late Henry W. and Johanna Dennisen Beerntsen. He attended schools in Green Bay and was a candy maker for 55 years. He started his career with his brothers in Green Bay. In 1906, he moved to Chicago and operated his own shop. In 1921, he moved to Milwaukee, where he had his own store, and in seven years, was the head candy maker at the Boston Store there. He came to Manitowoc in 1933, where he started the Beerntsen Confectionery, retiring Jan. 1, 1958. Mr. Beerntsen married Viola Hurtig Oct. 1, 1952, at Manitowoc. He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88. He served in World War I. Survivors include his wife; two sons, a daughter, two brothers, Henry and Theodore, of Green Bay; a sister, Mrs. Al Thompson, of Green Bay; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a step-son, and two step-daughters. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. ANNA BEERS cemetery #44 WIDOW OF C. BEERS PASSES AWAY Monday Mrs. Anna Beers, 77, Dies In Home That Sheltered Her For The Past 54 Years After a month's illness, Mrs. Anna Beers, widow of the late Charles Beers, for years a prominent Manitowoc business man who passed away in 1909, died last evening at 7 o'clock at the family home on South Eighth street, where the deceased has resided continuously for the past 54 years. Up to a few weeks ago Mrs. Beers was able to be up and about, and was a great reader of newspapers, priding herself on keeping informed on the happenings of the day. She lived with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Beers, who made her home with her following the death of Henry Beers in 1925. Pioneer of County The deceased who was 77 years of age was born on a farm six miles north of the city, November 23, 1852, her maiden named being Miss Anna Bunks. She was married to Charles Beers in the city, May 13, 1872 and they immediately took up their home in this city, when Mr. Beers established himself on South Eighth street. Mrs. Beers was a true companion of her husband and aided him in the years that he built up the busines and increased the family holdings on South Eighth street. The husband passed away Dec. 3, 1909 and the business was continued by the son, Henry Beers. The latter passed away in September 1925. The only surviving relatives are a half sister, Mrs. Fredericka Dietrich, of Tampa, Fla. and the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Beers. The later cared for the deceased during her month's illness, when Mrs. Beers insisted on remaining in the home that had sheltered her for over a half century. Funeral On Wednesday Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Pfeffer funeral chapel, with interment at Evergreen cemetery. CHARLES G. BEERS cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 09 Dec. 1909: Death Friday, after a long illness, of Charles Beers, a well-known resident of our city. Mr. Beers was born 13 August 1848 in Meinel, Germany, and came to America as a 14-year old boy and served as a seaman for 10 years. In 1872 he came to Manitowoc and operated a successful store here. He is survived by his widow and a son, as well as his mother and 2 brothers. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the city cemetery. ******** Death came as a relief from years of suffering to Charles Beers, well known as the proprietor of the Beers saloon on Eighth street, at 3:15 o’clock yesterday. Mr. Beers was born in Meemel, Oost Preussen, Germany and left home when only 14 years of age to go to sea. Later he came to America and sailed on the Great Lakes for a number of years. When 24 years of age he started his saloon business in this city and has been known here all of his lifetime as a model saloonkeeper who never sold drink to minors, intoxicated persons and so forth, and whose place of business was always kept in the best of order in every way. An aged mother of 86 years and two brothers survive in Germany. Mr. Beers was married in 1872 to Annie Marie Bonk and four sons were born to them three of whom are dead. They were Fred, Charles and John. Henry is the sole survivor of the children. Mr. Beers suffered an attack of heart and kidney trouble fourteen years ago and from this he never fully recovered. Three years ago he was prostrated by a second attack and during the past year he was confined to his bed much of the time. The funeral will be held on next Tuesday at 2 o’clock pm and will be under the auspices of Manitowoc Lodge No. 194, Odd Fellows, of which he was a member. Rev. CHARLES W. BEERS cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 01 Mar. 1906: Charles Beers here received a telegram from St. Louis on Thursday last week reporting that his 31-year old son Charles had died suddenly in a hotel there. The deceased was employed as a glass worker for many years in Chicago but had to give up his position recently because of illness. No one had anticipated that the end was so near. Mr. Beers immediately traveled to St. Louis and brought the body here. The funeral was held Monday. ******** Chas. Wm. Beer/b. Oct. 26, 1875 in Manitowoc, the son of Chas. Beer and wife nee Bonk. JOHN G. BEERS cemetery #44 DIED FAR FROM HOME JOHN BEERS PASSES AWAY AT PHILADELPHIA SUNDAY. John Beers, a young man who went from this city a few months ago to serve his country in the hour of need, died at a Philadelphia hospital last Sunday. The word came here in a message to his parents. The young man was a stoker, or fireman, on board the Algonquin, and served until about ten days ago, when he was sent to the hospital from which he was destined never to emerge in life. The stricken relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in this, their hour of bereavement. The remains were shipped from Philadelphia this morning at 10:30 and are expected to arrive here this evening, and the funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday, October 19, 1898 P. 1 ******* WITH FULL MILITARY HONORS Remains of John Beers Are Laid to Rest at Greenwood BEAUTIFUL FLORAL GIFTS Members of Company H Act as Pall Bearers--Services at Cemetery With full military honors the mortal remains of John Beers were laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery this afternoon. The remains arrived in the city at 4:20 yesterday afternoon and were met at the depot by the pall bearers and Co. H. The procession proceeded to the home of Chas. Beers, father of the deceased, where the casket lay until to-day. Funeral services were held at the house at 2 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Zenke of the German Reform Church. The casket was covered with the colors of the ship and the folds of the national flag. On the lid rested a number of beautiful floral offerings from the friends of the deceased. Conspicuous among these was an immense floral anchor, sent by the officers and crew of the Algonquin, on which ship the deceased served. At the conclusion of the religious services the funeral procession formed, headed by a detachment from Co. H. By the side of the hearse walked the pall bearers, all in full military uniform, and immediately following was a second detachment from Co. H. Relatives and friends in carriages followed to the cemetery, where short prayers were offered by the minister, "taps" was sounded by the company musician. Relatives, comrades and friends cast one last lingering look and then all that was mortal of John Beers, patriot and hero, was consigned to the bosom of mother earth, wrapped in the folds of the flag he loved and in the service of which he died. NICKOLAUS BEEVEN cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 09 July 1896: Death on Mon. of Nic Beaven(sic), an old settler in Town Manitowoc Rapids, of old age debility at 74 yrs. 7 mos. The deceased, who leaves a widow and 6 grown children, was buried this morning in the Catholic Cemetery.


AUGUST C. BEGALKE (d. 1963) cemetery #44 August C. Begalke, 86, who had resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pezzani, of 1853 Belmont St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Manitowoc County Hospital Mr. Begalke was born July 29, 1876, in the Town of Gibson, son of the late Edward and Mathilda Moeller Begalke. He married Emma Teesch Dec. 12, 1899, in the Town of Liberty. She died in 1947. He was employed at several old time meat markets, including Lowe and Schaeffer Market and Belinsky Market, and for a time operated his own meat market on the west side of the city. He was later employed at Bartlett-Frazier Co., and at Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Co. Inc., from which he was retired in 1948. He was also a member of the Brewer Maltster’s Union. Among survivors are a son, August Jr., of Milwaukee; three daughters, Mrs. Harold B. Schultz of Texarkana, Ark., Mrs. Hertha Delt, Wakeville, Texas, and Mrs. Pezzani of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Julius Gruman of Two Rivers and Mrs. Tillie Streese of Sheboygan, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. CHRIST BEGALKE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 09 Feb. 1905: The Trustees of the local mental facility, in their report for the fiscal year ending 30 June 1904, lists the following deaths: Catharina Cretton died 24 Sep. 1903 of exhaustion at age 80; Christopher Bejalke died 10 Oct. 1903 from heart trouble at age 73; Carl Fischer died 02 Dec. 1903 from a stroke at age 44; and Johanna O’Neil died 24 Apr. 1904 of bronchitis at age 84.


EDWARD BEGALKE cemetery #89A Former Resident of Mishicot Dies at Kohler Home Edward Begalke, aged 84, former resident of the Town of Mishicot died at his home at Kohler, Wis., at 3 p.m., Thursday afternoon after a lingering illness caused by the infirmities of old age. Mr. Begalke was a resident of the Town of Mishicot until 14 years ago when he and his family moved to Kohler. Deceased was born in West Prussia, Germany and at the age of nine years came to the United States and immediately made his home at Mishicot where he resided continuously until fourteen years ago. He is survived by his wife to whom he was united in marriage 54 years ago and five children, Mrs. Julius Grumann of Two Rivers, Mrs. Noah Gottschalk of Manitowoc, Mrs. Louis Streese of Mishicot, Mrs. Emma Mundt of Kohler, Wis., and August Begalke of Manitowoc. The body will arrive at the Beduhn and Goetz Mortuary this evening, and will be removed to the Julius Grumann residence on Sunday afternoon. The funeral will be held from the Julius Grumann home, 2110 Monroe street Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Haase of St. John’s Lutheran church officiating. MATHILDA BEGALKE cemetery #89A MRS. BEGALKE, FORMER GIBSON RESIDENT DEAD Sister of Mrs. Emma Kurtz Dies at Kohler; Funeral Here Monday Mrs. Edward Begalke, 85, former county resident and sister of Mrs. Kurtz of this city, died Friday afternoon at Memorial hospital at Sheboygan, where she had been a patient two weeks. She fell at her home in Kohler and fractured her hip. Mrs. Begalke, nee Mathilda Moeller, was a member of a family all of whom attained a ripe old age. Her sister Mrs. Kurtz, the mother of Postmaster Charles F. Kurtz, is now 82. A brother Carl, at Algoma, is 78, and a brother, Bernard, died here a few years ago at the age of 75. Funeral services will be held here Monday at 2 p.m. from the Beduhn Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pioneers Rest cemetery. Mrs. Begalke was born in Preussen, Germany in 1852 and came to this country at the age of 20. In 1874 she married Edward Begalke and the couple settled on a farm in Gibson. For the past 23 years she had lived in Kohler. Other survivors in addition to the brother and sister are three daughters, Mrs. Julius Grumann, city, Mrs. Louis Streese, Mishicot, and Mrs. Emma Mundt, Kohler; one son, August, Manitowoc; fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. ELLSWORTH BEHLING cemetery #44 Ellsworth E. Behling, 54, of 121 S. Franklin Ave., Oconto Falls, died Thursday afternoon at community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls. Private funeral services will be held Saturday at Watt Funeral Home, Maple Grove. The Rev. Merlin Goehring will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Prior to ill health Mr. Behling was employed as supervisor of shipping, receiving and warehouse at Liquid Carbonic, Oconto, a division of Houston Natural Gas. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Emil Behling, of Oconto Falls; a brother and sister-in-law, Atty. and Mrs. Eugene Behling, of Oconto Falls, three nieces and his fiancee, (Survivor omitted for privacy.) FRED C. BEHLOW (d. 1917) cemetery #89A Frederick Behlow, a pioneer resident of Manitowoc county, for years a farmer in the town of Two Creeks, died at Racine where he had made his home with his son since last May. Mr. Behlow was 75 years of age and a native of Germany. He located at Two Creeks in 1862 and was well known in that section. CHRISTIAN BEHM (d. 1939) cemetery #44 Christian Behm (photo), 83, a resident of the county for over 60 years, and retired Liberty farmer, died early today at the Holy Family hospital. He sumitted to an operation last Sunday. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the homestead and at two o'clock from the Liberty Lutheran church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemtery here. Mr. Behm was born in Germany in 1856 and at the age of 20 came to Manitowoc county. In 1884 he married Miss Anna Horstmann, and they located on the present homestead in the town of Liberty. The farm is now operated by his son, Louis. In 1934 Mr. and Mrs. Behm celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. Behm died two years ago. ERNST G. BEHM, PASTOR cemetery #82 Pastor Behm of Kiel Dies at His Home Kiel – The Rev. Ernst G. Behm, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church here since July 1946, died suddenly at his home at 6 a.m. today. Pastor Behm had not been ill and death was due to an apparent heart attack. He was 73 years old. He was born at Woodville, Wis., April 5, 1892, and was married to Elfrieda Kionke in Milwaukee July 17, 1918. Surviving are his wife, and four children, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Reim, Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Albert, Bloomington, Ill., and two sons, Harold and Theodore, both of Buhl, Idaho. Pastor Behm, a native of Woodville, Wis., was born April 5, 1892, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Behm. After graduating from Baldwin High School in 1909, he enrolled at Concordia College, St. Paul, where he graduated in 1913. He received his theological training at Lutheran Seminary, then in Wauwatosa, graduating with the Class of 1916. He was ordained at Meadow, S.D., where he had his first pastorage. He also service six mission congregations there until 1918. Pastor Behm then went to Mound City, S.D., where he served until accepting a call to Wautoma, Wis., in 1920. He was pastor of Peace Lutheran Church there for 15 years and also served the mission at nearby Redgranite for 10 years. In 1935, he accepted a call to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Town of Forest, Fond du Lac County, where he served until moving to Kiel in July, 1946. On June 12 of this year, he would have marked 49 years in the ministry. During that time he served the Wisconsin Evangelical Synod in various capacities. He was Visitor of the Winnebago Conference for a number of years, was president of the Northern Wisconsin District for four years, was a member of the synod seminary board for 12 years and was its chairman for six years. Pastor Behm was a member of the committee on revision of the catechism, did considerable writing, authoring a book and contributing to many church publications. He also was active in Christian education work. His marriage to Elfrieda Kionke took place in Milwaukee July 17, 1918. The ceremony was performed by Miss Kionke’s father the Rev. M. Kionke. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Reim, the wife of the Rev. Robert Reim, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Albert, Bloomington, Ill,; two sons, Harold and Theodore, both of Buhl, Idaho, and 15 grandchildren. ARTHUR BEHNKE cemetery #44 DEATH FOLLOWS SUDDEN ATTACK AT TWO RIVERS Acute Indigestion and Apoplexy Cause of Death Stricken suddenly while at Two Rivers last evening, Arthur E. Behnke, well known young business man of this city, died two hours later after having been brought to his home in this city. Mr. Behnke suffered an attack of acute indigestion which affected his heart and caused a hemorrhage which was fatal. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from the home 825 N. Ninth street and will be in charge of the Masonic order. Mr. Behnke, who was engaged in business as an optometrist conducting a store on Washington street in this city, had recently established a branch office at Two Rivers and was attending to business there when the fatal attack came. Dr. Christiansen was summoned and after attending Mr. Behnke, accompanied him to this city where he was taken to his home and passed away in a short time. News A Great Shock News of the death of Mr. Behnke spread rapidly and was a great shock to the community where he had made his home practically all of his life. He had not been ill. Mr. Behnke was a native of this city, having been born here June 19, 1882, forty-two years ago. He attended the old South Side high school from which he graduated and later took up a course in optical work at a Chicago school. After completing his studies he was for some time associated with the Tegtmeyer company at Milwaukee and nine years ago returned here to engage in business and had been very successful. Leaves Wife and Child Five years ago Mr. Behnke was married to Marie Borcherdt, this city, who with one daughter, Alice, and a brother, Charles Behnke of Oshkosh, survive. Mr. Behnke was deeply interested in his profession and devoted himself to his family and his business. Mr. Behnke was a member of Manitowoc lodge F. & A.M. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John-St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville. The Rev. Harvey Heckendorf will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Behnke was born March 13, 1889, in the Town of Rockland, son of the late Carl A. and Minnie Schultz Behnke. He married Emily Maertz May 24, 1916, at St. John-St. James Church by the late Rev. Henry Koch and he farmed as well as operating a feeder pig business. He was president and trustee of St. John- St. James Church for a number of years. RUDOLPH BEHNKE cemetery #44 Rudolph C. Behnke, 73, of 1908 Western avenue, died this morning at the Holy Family hospital. He suffered a stroke last Monday while at work at the Aluminum Goods company plant and was removed to the hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., from the St. John's Evangelical church, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Behnke was born in West Prussia, Germany in 1865. Soon after, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Behnke came to this county, locating at Reedsville. When a young man Mr. Behnke learned the cheesemaking trade and for 32 years operated a cheese factory at Wells, in the southwestern part of the county. In 1886 he married Miss Meta Strodthoff. In 1918 they moved to this city since which time he has been employed at the Goods company plant. WILHELMINA BEHNKE DIES WHILE ON VISIT TO RELATIVES IN COUNTRY-NEWS IS SHOCK Mother of Arthur Behnke, Victim of Heart Trouble, Following Pneumonia from Which She Was Ill for Three Weeks Death came to Mrs. Wilhemina Behnke, a well known resident of the city, while she visited with friends in the country near Cleveland, messages received in the city late yesterday announcing her demise coming as a great shock to her son, Arthur Behnke, with whom she made her home, and to friends. Mrs. Behnke was 58 years of age and death was due to heart trouble superinduced by pneumonia from which she had been ill for ten days. Mrs. Behnke had not been in robust health for several months but her condition had shown improvement and three weeks ago she departed to visit at Cleveland. A cold which she contracted developed into pneumonia and resulted in her death. Mrs. Behnke, nee Koch, was a native of Germany and had resided here many years. She was the widow of the late William Behnke who died three years ago. Two sons, Arthur of this city and Charles of Oshkosh survive. WILLIAM R. BEHNKE (d. 2005) cemetery #89D William R. Behnke, age 63, of Two Rivers, died peacefully at his residence after a courageous battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Thursday morning, April 7, 2005. William was born in Manitowoc on Nov. 9, 1941, son of William R. and Elizabeth (Petersohn) Behnke Sr. William was a high school graduate and also served in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 1, 1964, he married the former Joyce A. Parrish in Two Rivers. William worked for over 30 years at Fisher Hamilton serving in various capacities at the factory. He also enjoyed bingo, camping, woodworking, telling jokes and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Joyce, Two Rivers; his mother, one son, one daughter, two grandsons, one sister, one stepsister, one stepbrother. Many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive. William was preceded in death by his father and twin girls. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Kim Henning. HERMAN P. BEIL cemetery #82 The death of Herman Philip Beil, 58, took place at his home at 8:45 o’clock Sunday evening after a lingering illness. A retired Rockville cheesemaker, Herman Beil was the son of Henry Beil, Sr., and the late Emma Beil. He was born December 28, 1890, at Hilbert and confirmed in 1905 at Potters by the Rev. O. Muehlmeier. He was a veteran of World War I in which he enlisted at Kennelworth, Mont., in 1917. He was discharged at Russell, Wyo., on May 2, 1914. During the war Mr. Beil won the Silver Star, the French medal of Verdun, and the Victory medal of World War I. May 16, 1923, he married Miss Louise Sukowaty, St. Nazianz. He then purchased a cheese factory which he operated until he retired in 1941. Survivors are his wife, one daughter, and two grandsons; his father and stepmother at Fond du Lac, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Genske, Sheboygan, Mrs. Herman Specker, Hilbert, and Mrs. Walter Riener, Fond du Lac; three brothers, Henry Beil, Reedsville, Harold of Hilbert and Herbert of Chilton. IDA A. BEIL cemetery #82 Ida A. Beil, 93, a former Kiel resident, died early Sunday morning, April 5, 1992 at the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where she had been a resident since February 1989. The former Ida Maurer, born June 1, 1898 in the Town of Schleswig, was the daughter of the late John and Marie (Hanke) Maurer. She attended district school in the Town of Schleswig. On April 27, 1916 she married Henry Beil. The couple operated several cheese factories, including the Pine Grove Dairy in Reedsville for 29 years. They retired in 1958 and moved to Kiel. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966. Her husband preceded her in death in 1980. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel and a former member of the Frauenverein. Survivors include one son, the Rev. Howard (Della), Belleville; two daughters, Irmgard (Walter) Dreier, Howards Grove; LuAnn (Valentine) Siehs, Kiel; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother, Herman Maurer, rural Sheboygan Falls. At the age of 16 she came to this country and took up her residence in this city since. She was married to John Beitzel here on May 23, 1898. Besides her husband she leaves two daughter, Eleanora, this city, and Mrs. Herbert Mahnke, also at home, and a son, Joseph, at home. She is also survived by a brother, Joseph Berger, well known eastside resident. Mrs. Beitzel was a member of the St. Luke's Catholic church and has taken an active part in the affairs of the Altar Society and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters.
