EMMA MEINEKE Mrs. Meineke Succumbs to Heart Attack Two Rivers, Jan. 4-Heart trouble, from which she had been a sufferer for some time, caused the demise of Mrs. Henry Meineke at the family home, 2300 Adams street, Saturday. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon from the home with services at 2 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran chuch the Rev. Hanse officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest cemetery. Mrs. Meineke, who was Emily Schmidt before her marriage, December 1, 1885, was born at Shoto November 15, 1864 and was sixty-one years of age. Her husband preceded her in death twenty-five years ago and she is survived by five children, Mrs. Walter Doeblerof Iron Mountain, Mich., Mrs. Emil Kurtz of Milwaukee, Mrs. Arthur Tomaschefsky and Mrs. Otto Ulrich of this city and Norman Meineke of Oconomowoc. Her aged mother, ten grandchildren, three brothers, Christ Schmidt of the town of Two Rivers, Fred and Theodore Schmidt of this city and one sister, Mrs. Emilia Burmeister, also survive her. ERHARDT WILLIAM MEINEKE Erhardt William Meineke (Edited for living) Erhardt William Meineke, entered his eternal home on Thursday, August 19, 1993. He resided at 2309 Washington St., Two Rivers, Wis. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday August 23, 1993, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Robert Sullivan will officiate with burial in the Pioneer Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Meineke was born January 8, 1906, in the Town of Two Rivers, son of the late Charles and Minnie Schmidt Meineke. He attended the former Sandy Bay Country School and graduated in 1923 from Washington High School, the first class to graduate from the new school building. In October 1923, he went to Chicago and worked for his uncle's construction company, "Otto Schmidt Construction Company." The company built several post office buildings in Illinois, such as within the cities of Elgin and Wheaton. In 1923, the company built the Medinah Country Clubhouse and golf ground buildings for the Shriners. The company helped build the Two Rivers Post Office in 1933. Through this work he became a master stone mason. He married the former Viola Hels, of Chicago, at Bethany Church, Chicago, Ill., on November 25, 1935. They returned to Two Rivers to reside. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1965. He worked for the "Immel Construction Company", Fond du Lac, "Hamann Construction Company", "Hoffman Brothers", and various other companies. He retired in 1970 as a stone mason and observed his Union Mason membership of 50 years memebership in 1988. A 32nd degree Mason, he entered the Masonic Order in Chicago, Ill. in the late 1920's. He observed 50 year membership of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in 1977. He was a Past High Priest of Barny G. Lyman Chapter and Past Associated Patron and Patron of Manitowoc and Two Rivers Chapters of Eastern Stars. He was awarded the Royal Arch Man of the Year Award for the State of Wisconsin in 1988. He was honorary Past Commander of Manitowoc Knights of Templar No. 45. He is currently a member of the Two Rivers Shrine Club of Tripoli Temple, Milwaukee, Kewaunee-Algoma Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars No. 228, Manitowoc Masonic Lodge No. 65, Manitowoc Chapter No. 16, Manitowoc Council No. 18, Manitowoc Commandery No. 45 Knights Templar, and Two Rivers Senior Center. He was on the Property Committee of Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golf, bowling, playing cards, and attending sports events. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, three sisters, four brothers, and one grandchild. The family appreciates the help of friends, neighbors, North End Home Care helpers, the Medical Staff of Park Lawn Home, and Two Rivers Community Hospital, Clergy, and the caring individuals who helped in any way. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Chicago, Ill., Milwaukee Children's Hospital or the donor's choice. HENRIETTA MEINEKE From Der Nord Westen, 11 Jan. 1900: Mrs. Henry Meinke died at age 80 in Two Rivers on Tues. in the home of her son-in-law Wm. Mrs. Carl Meinke, an old settler and 30-yr. resident on the south side of our city, was buried on Fri. She had reached an age of 81 yrs. 10 mos., and is survived by her husband and two married children. The funeral was held at the Evangelical Church.


JOHANN MEINEKE Two Rivers (?) Newspaper, May 1882: “J. Meineke, a wealthy farmer who resided a few miles north of the city, died last week while in Chicago for the purpose of receiving medical treatment. VIOLA MEINEKE Mrs. Erhardt Meineke, 56, of 2309 Washington St., Two Rivers, died Tuesday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. She has been in failing health for nearly a year. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Thursday at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. M.W. Oechler officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Meineke, nee Viola Hels, was born June 14, 1908, at Milwaukee, daughter of the late Charles and Emily Bunde Hels. When she was three the family brought her to Chicago where she received her elementary and prepatory education. She was married Nov. 28, 1935, at Bethany Evangelical Church, Chicago. Following the marriage the couple took up residence in Two Rivers where she resided since. She was a member of the Two Rivers chapter of the Order of Easter Star and the Ladies Guild of Calvary church. Besides her husband she leaves three daughters; two sisters, Mrs. Lauretta Kneckow, of Wauconda, Ill., and Mrs. Esther Traxel, of St. Louis, Mo. and two grandchildren. ADA MENGES Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Menges, 84, formerly of Cedar Heights Road, Two Rivers, who died Saturday morning at Hamilton Memorial Home, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Richard Weber officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Menges, nee Ada Schwarz, was born March 3, 1888, daughter of the late Frederick and Fredericka Stechmesser Schwarz. She attended St. John Parochial School and was graduated from Two Rivers High School. She was married to Henry Menges May 15, 1907, at Two Rivers. He preceded her in death May 12, 1960. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Eugene Peroutka, Mrs. Joseph Jebavy and Mrs. Elmer Petrashek, of Two Rivers, and Mrs. Richard Bosley, of Milwaukee; five sons, Bernhardt, Henry, Harold and Randolph, of Two Rivers, and Arnold, of Milwaukee; 27 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. FRANCES MERTENS Mrs. Frances Mertens, 81, of 1412-22nd St., Two Rivers, widow of Fred (Ole) Mertens, longtime Draft Board member and Two Rivers business man, died late Saturday night at Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels and at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. James Stamborski officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Mertens, nee Frances Bonk, was born Aug. 22, 1890, in the Town of Two Creeks, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie Gonia Bonk. When she was a child the family brought her to Two Rivers, where she attended Sacred Heart Parochial School. She was a member of Auxiliary of Eleven Gold Star Post No. 1248, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Rosary Society of Sacred Heart. She was married in 1916 to Fred Mertens at Two Rivers. He preceded her in death in 1960. She leaves a foster son, Dr. Wallace Bonk, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and a foster daughter, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Brault, of Mt. Horeb, a brother, George Bonk, of Two Rivers; three sisters, Mrs. James Schauer and Mrs. Ben Domborwski, of Two Rivers and Mrs. Theresa Gillespie, of San Diego, Calif., and three foster grandchildren. FRED J. MERTENS Set Military Funeral for F.J. Mertens Two Rivers- Full military funeral services will be held for Fred J. (Ole) Mertens, 71, of 2115 Polk St., prominent retired Two Rivers businessman and overseas veteran of World War I, at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels and at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery here. Participating in the rites will be the firing squads of the Eleven Gold Star Post 1248, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Robert E. Burns Post 165, American Legion. The Rev. T.F. Stern will officiate in the services at the church. Ill Since December Mr. Mertens died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Wood, Wis., where he had been ill since early in December. Mr. Mertens was born Feb. 7, 1889, at Two Rivers, son of the late Frederick and Anna Wilke Mertens. He attended St. John Parochial School and Two Rivers High School, after which he took employment with American Express Co. operated here by the late Gus C. Kirst. He entered World War I in late April of 1918 and was assigned to the 339th Infantry. Two months later he went overseas, first serving in France and later in Russia. In Russia his unit, which included the Rev. John S. Landowski, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, who served as chaplain, became known as the "Lost Battalion", stationed near Archangel. The unit was not contacted until some time after the end of the war. Returning to the states 16 months later, Mr. Mertens worked for a short time at Plant No. 1 of Mirro Aluminum Co. He then acquired a tavern on Washington Street what is now the site of the Petrie Bar. Nearly 18 years ago he took over the management of the Veterans of War Clubhouse on the east side, a position which he held for 12 years, retiring six years ago. Active in Baseball Virtually all his life Mr. Mertens was closely identified with the conduct of baseball teams in the community. After his return from World War I he served with August L. Gloe of Manitowoc as co-manager of the city baseball team. In 1950 he was a member of the board of directors of the Two Rivers Baseball Assn. A lifelong Democrat, Mr. Mertens was appointed a member of the Two Rivers Draft Board in 1940. He retired from the board in 1945, a period which he served as chairman. A member of the VFW post and the Legion post of the city, he was also a charter member of the February Club and served for two years as its president. Surviving Mr. Mertens are his wife, the former Frances Bonk, whom he married at Two Rivers April 23, 1918; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Owens of Two Rivers and Mrs. Ervin H. Meineke of Chicago; a half-brother, John Goedjen of Two Rivers and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. He was buried on the 16th in the Evangelical Cemetery, mourned by many friends and relatives and Pastor Eilert gave the funeral sermon. *********** From Der Nord Westen, 23 Apr. 1891: Death of Johann Messerschmidt on Mon., 11 Apr., in the City of Two Rivers. He was the father-in-law of John Franz of Manitowoc. He was born in Hochelheim, Kreis Wetzlar, in Prussia on 04 Jan. 1826, therefore reaching the age of 65 yrs. 3 mos. and 9 days. Mr. Messerschmidt was admired and respected byeveryone. He is survived by his widow.


KATH. ELISABETHA MESSERSCHMIDT From Der Nord Westen, 30 Nov. 1893: Death on Wed., 26 Nov. in Two Rivers, of Kath. Elisabeth Messerschmidt, after a long painful illness with cancer. She was the sister of Mrs. Franz of Manitowoc. She was born in Hochelheim, Kreis Wetzlar, Prussia, on 16 Oct. 1829. She came to America in 1855 with her husband John Messerschmidt, who preceded her in death in Apr. 1891. She lived in Two Rivers ever since. The funeral took place Sun., 26 Nov., at the Evangelical Church.

WILLIAM MESSMANN William Messman, 84, of 2618 Lincoln Ave., Two Rivers, died Saturday afternoon at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, the Rev. Edward Stelter officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Messman was born Aug. 30, 1888, in the Town of Two Rivers, son of the late John and Marie Duerschmidt Messman. He married Albertine Tegge Nov. 26, 1910, and farmed in the Town of Two Rivers from 1914 to 1940 when he moved to the City of Two Rivers and was self employed as a mason. His wife preceded him in death in 1957. Survivors include a son, Ervin, of Two Rivers; a grandson; a sister, Mrs. Steve Stan?, of Two Rivers; and six great grandchildren. ANTON MICHALEK, SR. Anton Michalek Sr., 73, of 624 S 26th st, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at home. He married Alma Bargman in 1920, she died in 1955. He married Dora Wesela Dec. 9, 1968, at Seymour. He had been employed for 20 years at Mirro Aluminum Co.,Two Rivers, and later for several years he was employed at the Two Rivers Washington Street Gamble Store, he retired in 1965. HENRY MIENBURG From Der Nord Westen, 11 Feb. 1909: A Milwaukee newspaper reports that on Tuesday noon Henry Meienburg was killed by an engine of the Milwaukee-St. Paul Railroad. The deceased is a son of Charles Meienburg here and has worked for the Milwaukee Co. for several years. He is married and has 3 children. Tuesday afternoon he was on his way home and at the corner of 25th Street and St. Paul Avenue he was hit and killed by a so called transfer locomotive. In addition to his wife and 3 children he is survived by his elderly father here, as well as 5 sisters and 2 brothers. His wife is a daughter of the late Jacob Giefer. ********* From Der Nord Westen, 18 Feb. 1909: The body of Henry Meienburg was brought from Milwaukee, where he had been killed in an accident recently, to Two Rivers and the funeral conducted there from the residence of his mother-in-law, Mrs. M. Giefer. The funeral procession was very large and the profusion of floral displays gave evidence of the respect with which the deceased was held in Two Rivers. Pastor Giese, from the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, conducted the funeral. Mr. Meienburg had not fallen beneath the wheels of the train but was hit with full force on the back of his head, killing him instantly. Except for a broken arm his body was not mutilated.


ELIZABETHA A. MILLER From Der Nord Westen, 23 Jan. 1902: Mrs. Christian Miller died Sun. in Two Rivers following a stroke. The deceased was born 19 Apr. 1829 in the vicinity of Magdeburg and came with her husband to America in 1855. In addition her husband she leaves 6 children. The funeral was held Tues. afternoon.


CHRISTIAN MILLER Christian Miller, 61, of 1805 Western Ave., Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. N.W. Kock will officiate and burial will be in Pioneers Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Miller was born May 22, 1912, aboard the Lusitania, son of the late John and Helen Miller. He had been a Manitowoc resident since 1914 and attended Manitowoc schools. He married Ellen R. Assmann Sept. 16, 1939, at Mishicot. He was employed as a driver by Red Top Cab Co. fo 29 years. He was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) A daughter, Lorraine, preceded him in death in 1962. Six borthers also preceded him in death. MARIA MONK From Der Nord Westen, 12 Aug. 1909: Death Thursday last week of old age debility of Mrs. Mary Monk at the home of her son Geo. Monk in Two Rivers. The deceased, who was 79 years 5 months of age, was buried Friday.


AUGUSTA MORGAN Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta Morgan, 85, a member of a pioneer town of Mishicot family and former resident of Two Rivers, will be held Friday afternoon from the Klein and Stangel Inc., funeral home in Two Rivers. Mrs. Morgan died at South Bend, Indiana, Monday and the remains arrived in Two Rivers late last night and were taken to the Klein and Stangel Inc., funeral home where they can be viewed until the time of the services. Rev. Roland Ehlke, assistant pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, will officiate and burial will be in Pioneer's Rest cemetery. Mrs. Morgan, nee Augusta Schmidt, was born in the town of Mishicot on June 1, 1858, the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Johannes Schmidt, early settlers of the town of Mishicot. After residing at Two Riveres for several years she married James Morgan and 20 years ago moved to South Bend. Mr. Morgan died some years ago. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Selberg of South Bend; three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Kurtz of Two Rivers, Mrs. Henry Schroeder of this city, and Mrs. Charles Frank of Milwaukee; three brothers, Otto and Carl Schmidt of the town of Two Rivers and Paul Schmidt of Milwaukee; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. WILLIAM G. MORRISEY Funeral services for William G. Morrisey, 74, of 1714 Hawthorne Ave., Two Rivers, former Two Rivers south side supervisor and retired Mirro Aluminum Co. rolling mill assistant superintendent, who died shortly before noon Wednesday at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Ralph Backman officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mr. Morrisey was born June 5, 1897, at Green Bay, son of the late William and Caharine Yunger Morrisey. He attended a parochial and high school at Green Bay before coming to Two Rivers early in World War I. He had been a Mirro Aluminum Co. employe for 45 years, all of which time was spent in the rolling mills of Two Rivers and in the larger operation between Two Rivers and Manitowoc where he was assistant superintendent when he retired in 1962. Mr. Morrisey served three terms as supervisor of the Seventh ward at Two Rivers and was a member of the Manitowoc County Board's Highway Committee and also an original member of the Manitowoc County Parks and Planning Commission. For four years he was on the Manitowoc County Fair Board. Fraternally, he was a longtime member of Two Rivers Lodge of Masons, No. 200. He married Cecelia Krueger at Manitowoc Sept. 7, 1918. CAROLINA MOSELER (Sent in by a family member, see contributors page) Moseler:-Died at her home in this city July 25, 1903. Caroline, wife of John Moseler, aged 55 years. Deceased was born in Germany on February 4, 1848 and came to this country with her parents when about ten years of age. Whe she grew to womanhood she was united in marriage to John Moseler, our esteemed City Treasurer, and bore him nine children, 5 sons and 4 daughters, of whom 3 sons and 2 daughters are living. Her illness was long and most intensely painful and death was to her a sweet relief. She was a devoted wife and mother and a consistent christian and her death will be sincerely deplored by a large number of sorrowing freinds and relatives. The funeral took place from St. John's Lutheran church this afternoon. Note: Caroline Albrecht/Albright married John Moseler on August 12, 1865 in Two Rivers. Name of person pronouncing the marriage was Felix Walsh. She is buried at Pioneer's Rest Cemetery in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. She was his second wife and bore 9 children. There were 6 children of the first marriage, and of that total of 15, only 5 now survive – 3 sons and 2 daughters. Therefore, he has suffered the loss of 2 wives and 10 children. The funeral will be held Tues. afternoon from the Lutheran Church.


JOHN MOSELER (Sent in by a family member, see contributors page) I don't have the name of the paper...it is missing on the top of my copy from microfilm but it says Vol. 13. He died 22 July 1915. POPULAR OLD TIMER GONE The funeral of John Moseler Sunday was largely attended. Judge Schmidt of Manitowoc delivered the funeral oration which contained many beautiful sentiments fitting to the occasion. John Moseler was born in Groef (Krov*), Germany in 1832 (November 30). He grew to manhood there and when about 20 years of age he and thirteen other young men set out for America and Mr. Moseler came to Two Rivers and went to work in a saw mill up at Neshoto. That was in May 1854. The next year he returned to Two Rivers and when the chair factory started in 1856 he found employment there and continued to work there for thirty-five years with the exception of one year spent at his old home in Germany. From 1896 to 1910 Mr. Moseler was city treasurer which position he conducted efficiently handling in that time millions of dollars. He lost by death eleven of the children bor to him and buried two wives in 45 years and of late was confined to bed with an illness of nearly two years duration. Through all his troubles, Mr. Moseler was a cheerful philosopher accepting his lot with patience and fortitude and emerging from his difficulties light hearted and good natured as he ever was. Although greatly weakened from old age Mr. Moseler had entirely recovered from his long illness and his death came after an illness of a day. He is survived by five children George of Howards Grove, Louis of Mellen, Nicholas of Ishpeming, Mrs. M. Cordts of Milwaukee and Mrs. Frank Lamach and one brother, Franz Moseler of this city. *Believed to be Krov. *********** From the Manitowoc Herald Times dated July 27, 1915 (Thursday) page 8. JOHN MOSELER WHO SERVED 14 YEARS AS TREASURER AT TWO RIVERS, DEAD AT AGE OF 82 YRS. John Moseler, former city treasurer of Two Rivers, who held the office for fourteen consecutive years and retired donly because he refused longer to serve, was buried there Sunday, the funeral being one of the largest the city has had in years. Judge A. H. Schmidt of this city, delivered the eulogy. Mr. Moseler was 82 years of age, having been born at Croef, Germany, in 1833. He located at Two Rivers in 1854. Mr. Moseler was prominent in democratic politics of Manitowoc county for years and retained his interest in public affairs up to the time of his death. He was well known throughout the county.

GLADYS MOSUCH Mrs. Gladys Mosuch, 65, of 2702 Memorial Dr., operator of the adjoining Lakeview Motel, which she and her late husband built and owned, died early Monday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Richard Weber officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Mosuch, nee Gladys Baker, was born April 12, 1906, at Rose Lawn, Shawano County, daughter of the late William and Carla Senbusch Baker. When she was a child the family brought her to Two Rivers. She was married Aug. 9, 1926, to Fred Mosuch at Menominee, Mich. He died July 6, 1926. She had been employed for a number of years as a saleswoman at Schroeder Bros. Dept. Store before the couple built the motel. Surviving are a daughter, a son, four sisters, Mrs. John LaFond, Mrs. Edmund Malkowski and Mrs. Grant Gustavson, of Two Rivers and Mrs. Gertrude Zulke of Oshkosh; two brothers, Ervin of Two Rivers and Harvey Baker, of Bayfield and four grandchildren. ANDREW MUELLER Mr. Andrew Mueller, father of Mrs. C. Winkelmiller, of this city, of whose illness mention was made in our last issue, died at his home in Chicago last week after being confined to his bed for about two weeks. Mr. Mueller was formerly a resident of this county, being a farmer in Saxonberg, a few miles north of this city, and had at the time of his death reached the ripe age of 84 years. His remains were brought to this city for burial in the public cemetery here by the side of his wife who has been dead for quite a number of years. MUELLER Mrs. Carrie Mueller, 85, formerly of 1523-17th St., Two Rivers, a resident of the Hamilton Memorial Home and previously in the Two Rivers Municipal Hospital Extended Care Unit the past four years, died at the hospital Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, the Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer's Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Mueller, nee Carrie Kaufmann, was born Nov. 15, 1886, at Two Rivers, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Kiefer Kaufmann. Her father was an early blacksmith and a member of a family which owned a large area which is now Point Beach State Forest. She attended Two Rivers public schools and Oct. 18, 1910, she was married to Charles A. Mueller at Two Rivers. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1966. Survivors include a son, Floyd, of Two Rivers; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Dennis, of Two Rivers; a brother, Walter Kaufmann, of Two Rivers, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. JOHN MUELLER From the Two Rivers Reporter, Monday, February 4, 1946 DEATH CLAIMS JOHN MUELLER ON SATURDAY World War I Veteran, Well Known Musician, Taken by Heart Attack A heart attack following a two weeks illness caused the death shortly before four o'clock Saturday afternoon of John A. Mueller, 56, widely known World War I overseas veteran, former musician, and charter member of the old Two Rivers Motorcycle club, at the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Koeser, 1430 Hawthorne avenue. Military funeral services will be conducted by the Robert E. Burns post 165, American Legion at the Klein & Stangel, Inc. funeral home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. William C.F. Hays, pastor of Emanuel Evangelical church will officiate. Interment will be in Pioneers' Rest cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home until the hour of services. Born in 1889 John A. Mueller, familiarly known among his friends here as "Hipshy", was born in this city on October 29, 1889, a son of the late Henry Mueller and Mrs. Anna Mueller Koeser. Interested in instrumental music since boyhood, he was a member of the old South Side band, which was under leadership of Herbert Schultz. He later became a member of the Twin River band, under the late Tony Hansen, a forerunner of the present Hamilton band. He played both the baritone and alto horns. Entering the service in September, 1917, he served in France as a musician with the 365th Infantry, remaining overseas more than a year and a half. He returned to the states and to his home here in April of 1919. Soon after he organized Mueller's Brass band, which played for dances and other social functions in this vicinity for several years. Ardent Cyclist Mr. Mueller was one of the first Two Rivers young men to purchase a motorcycle and was one of the organizers of the old Two Rivers Motorcycle club, which had a membership between the years of 1909 to 1911 of some ?? members.(fold in paper) He never married. Besides his mother, he leaves three sisters, Miss Margaret at home Mrs. Carrie Drescher of Wauwatosa and Mrs. Clara McBrien of Manitowoc, and a brother, William Mueller of Mishicot route 1. Mr. Mueller was a member of the Robert E. Burns post, American Legion for many years.


KATHERINE MUELLER From Der Nord Westen, 07 Jan. 1904: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 04 Jan.) The funeral of Mrs. R.E. Mueller took place here yesterday. Mrs. Mueller was a widow whose late husband, exmayor Richard E. Mueller, proprietor of the local brewery, died several years ago. She was born the daughter of the late Manitowoc resident Carl Holzknecht on 11 Apr. 1844, in Amorbach, Bavaria. She is survived by 3 children, sons Charles and Eduard who still run their father's brewery, and a daughter. Mrs. Mueller was a highly respected lady in this community and her funeral was attended by an extraordinary number of mourners in the cortege from the Catholic Church.


RICHARD E. MUELLER From Der Nord Westen, 03 May 1894: Ex-Mayor Richard Mueller of Two Rivers, the owner of the brewery there, died yesterday. Mr. Mueller was ill for a long time and his death was not unexpected. Funeral arrangements are pending. ********* From Der Nord Westen, 10 May 1894: Richard Mueller of Two Rivers was buried last Sun. He was born 29 June 1839 in Kittlitz, Saxony, and came to America with his parents in 1846, directly to Two Rivers where he lived until his death. 27 yrs. ago he married Miss Katharine Holzknecht of Manitowoc. The marriage produced 2 sons and 2 daughters, all of whom survive. About 23 yrs. ago Mr. Mueller inherited his father’s ownership in a small brewery that he improved and enlarged year by year. He also engaged in various city positions. The funeral took place Sun. afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Two Rivers, of which he was a member. Mr. C. Pahlcotter led the ceremony and delivered a short speech. The funeral procession was one of the largest ever seen in Two Rivers. Mr. A. Wittmann delivered the graveside oration.

OLD RESIDENT ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS August Neumann aged ninety one years passed to his reward Wednesday at Sheboygan, Wis. He died at the home of his son, Henry with whom he resided since leaving here last July. Deceased had been a resident of this city since he came to this country from Germany, his native land, in 1867. His wife died forty-three years ago and he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Henry Mandel and when she passed away he continued to reside with his son-in-law several years until lately. Mr. Neumann, who for many years followed the occupation of farmer, was a devout Christian man and was always actively identified with the Evangelical church from which the funeral will be held today at 1:30. Deceased leaves five sons Henry, William and Fred of Sheboygan, Ernst of Manitowoc and August of Wausau.


FREDRICH NICKLAUS From Der Nord Westen, 11 Oct. 1894: Death in Two Rivers on Wed. of last week of 75 yr. old Friedrich Nicolaus. The deceased came to Two Rivers in 1866 and leaves a widow and 2 grown sons. His funeral took place Fri. in the Lutheran Church.


HENRY NIENSTEDT From Der Nord Westen, 21 Oct. 1880: Deaths by drowning of Henry Nienstedt and Frank Oswald, both of Two Rivers, in a storm last Friday. They were returning to Two Rivers in a sailboat and both drowned when overtaken by the storm. Both bodies were pulled ashore and buried last Tuesday. Each left a large family - 7 children. A son of Frank Oswald had planned to sail with them from Clay Banks, but stayed behind to do some business and escaped the tragedy. ********** The storm which began Friday night brought sorrow and mourning to two families in this city. Frank Oswald and Henry Neinstedt were the unfortunatevictims of its terrible wrath. Friday evening they started from Clay Banks,where they were engaged in fishing, for this place in an open boat which was well loaded down with fish, and somewhere near this point on that awful night they were overcome by the wind and waves. On Saturday morning their boat was found upturned on the beach by the patrol from the life-saving station. For a time hope combated with fear. It was thought possible that the men had reached shore in safety or had been picked up by some vessel, but before the close of Saturday the body of F. Oswald washed ashore near Two Creeks and the sad truth was known. The next day Henry Neinstedt's body came ashore also. They were both brought to this place and were buried yesterday, one funeral procession bearing both to their last resting place in our city cemetery. The body of F. Oswald was taken in charge and buried by the Sons of Hermann, and the body of Henry Neinstedt was buried by the German Methodists, his family belonging to that denomination. Both men leave large families of small children and their loss will be deeply felt. F. Oswald was an Alderman in the first ward of this city and was a public-spirited man, always interesting himself in the affairs of our city and county. CHARLES OCHS CHARLES OCHS LIFE RESIDENT 2 RIVERS, DIES (By Staff Correspondent) TWO RIVERS, May 9.-Charles Ochs, life-long resident of Two Rivers, died at the home of his brother, Louis Ochs, 1511 Twenty-third street, at 3 o'clock yesterday aftenoon, death being due to hardening of the arteries. Mr. Ochs was born in Two Rivers June 22, 1861, and had been active up until several years ago, when he led a life of retirement, making his home with his brother. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon from the home of his brother at 2 o'clock, and from the Congregational church at 2:30, Rev. T.A. Hawkes to officiate. Burial will take place at Odd Fellows cemetery. Louis Ochs, a brother of the decedent, is the only living relative, Mr. Ochs being a bachelor. LOUIS OCHS (d. 1941) Louis H. Ochs, 76, past nobel grand of the Two Rivers lodge of Odd Fellows and custodian of the lodge quarters for the past several years, died at the Municipal hospital in that city late Monday afternoon. He had been in ill health for the past year. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon. Complete arrangements for the funeral will be announced Wednesday. Mr. Ochs was a lifelong resident of Manitowoc county. He was born on a farm at Saxonburg Feb. 5, 1865 and for many years he farmed in that vicinity. Nearly 40 years ago he moved to Two Rivers with his family. He took employment at the Eggers factory and worked there until about ten years ago. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. George Goeddle of Waterloo, Ill., and Mrs. Arthur Francisco of Two Rivers; three sons, Walter of Racine, Louis, Jr., and Erwin of Waukegan, Ill., and nine grandchildren. ODELIA OCHS MRS. L. OCHS DIES, ILLINOIS Well Known Resident Meets Death While On Visit Funeral services for Mrs. Louis Ochs, 65, well known local resident who died Friday morning at the home of her niece, Mrs. A.J. Walsh at Highwood, Ill., have not yet been completed. The remains will arrive here early Sunday night and will be taken to the C.J. Jansky funeral home. Mrs. Ochs had apparently been in good health when she left here last Sunday to visit with her son in Racine, and later went to Highwood to visit her niece. She underwent an operation here earlier in the year and her health was considerably improved. Mrs. Ochs, nee Odelia Reinwand, was born in the town of Mishicot, October 5, 1867, a member of one of the town's earliest families. Forty-five years ago she was married in Mishicot to Louis Ochs, who survives her. After two years on the farm they moved to Two Rivers where they resided on 23rd street ever since. Mrs. Ochs was well know in fraternal circles in Two Rivers, and was serving as noble grand of the Rebekahs after holding practically all of the offices of the order. She was also an active member of Grace Congregational church. Besides her husband Mrs. Ochs leaves two daughters, Mrs. Clara Goedel of Waterloo, Ill., and Mrs. Josephine Francisco of this city, and three sons, Walter of Racine, Louis of Evanston, Ill., and Ervin of Waukegan, Ill. EDNA E. OESTREICH Injuries received in a fall slighty more than a month ago at Los Angeles, Calif., proved fatal Sunday afternoon to Miss Edna Oestreich, former Two Rivers resident, according to a message received by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Oestreich, in Two Rivers today. Miss Oestreich, who had served as a governess and maid with the Walter Devlin family in Chicago and Los Angeles for more than 25 years, slipped on the kitchen floor in the Devlin home early last month, sustaining multiple fractures to one of her legs. She had been a patient at the Santa Monica hospital there since the accident, but her condition became critical last week. Internal injuries were believed to have caused her death. Funeral services will probably be held in Two Rivers Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Klein & Stangel, Inc. funeral home and at 2 o'clock in Emanuel Evangelical church, the Rev. Franklin E. Schleuter officiating. Interment will be in Pioneers' Rest cemetery. The body is being shipped to Two Rivers today, according to word from the west. The deceased, who was born 03 May 1829 in Rebau bei Magdeburg, in the Prussian Province of Saxony, came to America in 1856. He first settled on a farm in the vicinity of Two Rivers, but later moved to the city of Two Rivers and spent the rest of his life there. He is survived by a widow, 2 sons and 2 daughters. MILTON W. OLLENDORF Milton W. Ollendorf, 68, of Rt. 1, Mishicot, died Monday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot. The Rev. Herbert Kesting will officiate and burial will be in Pioneers Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Ollendorf was born May 15, 1903, at Two Rivers, son of the late Werner and Emma Bukosky Ollendorf. He married Leona Retzlaff in October of 1927 at Two Rivers. JOHN OSWALD From Der Nord Westen, 03 Oct. 1907: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 30 Sep.) John Oswald who has been ill for the past 10 years and totally blind, being supported by the city, has died at age 46. He was buried Sunday from the English Church.


JOHN HENRY OSWALD, MD From Der Nord Westen, 02 May 1878: Death of Dr. John Oswald of Two Rivers, on Sun., 28 Apr., of a stroke. He was buried yesterday in a ceremony led by the Odd Fellows of Two Rivers.


ELSIE OWENS Mrs. Roderick Owens, 72 of 1604-21st St., Two Rivers, died early Friday night at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient for a week. She had been in failing health for several months. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. T.F. Stern officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Owens, nee Elsie Mertens, was born April 12, 1891, at Two Rivers, daughter of the late Fred and Caroline Wilke Mertens. She attended St. John Parochial School. She was married to Roderick Owens at Two Rivers June 2, 1923. He died in 1945. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Ladies Group and the Study Club of St. John Church and also of the Homemakers Club. Surviving are a son, Kenneth, of Two Rivers; a half brother, John Goedjen, of Two Rivers and three grandchildren. SARAH PAESKE Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Albright Paeske, 85, a resident of Two Rivers 30 years ago, who died last night in Escanaba, will be held at Two Rivers Friday at 2 p.m. from the Beduhn funeral home, the Rev. D.E. Evans of the Escanaba M.E. church officiating. The body will arrive here at 1 p.m. Friday and may be viewed until the time of the funeral. Survivors are five daughters, five sons, nine step-children, 23 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Albright is the only Two Rivers relative. MOTHER PAHLKOETTER (Mrs. Charles) From Der Nord Westen, 14 May 1908: (From the correspondent in Two Rivers, 11 May) Widow Mrs. Charles Pahlcoetter has died after a short illness. She was a fine, industrious lady who had been a great help in her husband's tailor shop Her husband drowned in the river here about a year ago. She leaves 2 sons and 2 daughters. The funeral was held Sunday from the Lutheran Church.


BERNARD PAWLITZKE Bernard E. (Ben) Pawlitzke, 91, of 2002 Adams St., Two Rivers, retired general contractor in the home and commercial building construction field in the area, died unexpectedly at home early Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thurday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Richard Weber officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Pawlitzke was born at Two Rivers, Jan. 2, 1882, son of the late William and Amelia Ribitzky Pawlitzke. He attended St. John Parochial School and in his youth learned the carpenter trade with the former Reis and Levenhagen firm. He was self-employed for many years later in his own contracting business. Among the homes which he built at Two Rivers were those of the late D. Joseph Eggers, H.C. Gowran, L.B. Clarke and such commercial structures as the J.K. Stephany Drug Store, the Schnoor Building and the Knights of Columbus Club at Manitowoc. For several years prior to his retirement he was an estimator for Hamann Construction Co., Manitowoc. He married Cecilia Greenwood in 1909 at Two Rivers. She preceded him in death in 1935. He married Mrs. Emma Kiel in 1938. She died in 1951. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William (Lucille) Stam Sr., of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two sons, Emmett and Raymond, of Two Rivers; two half- sisters, Mrs. Mollie Nielson, of Two Rivers, and Mrs. Ada Peters, of Midlothian, Ill., seven granchildren and 11 great granchildren. GEORGE PEOT, JR. George J. Peot Jr., 65, of 1810 Emmett St., Two Rivers, veteran maltster at Rahr Malting Co., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital early Saturday morning, where he had undergone surgery nearly three weeks ago. Funeral servies will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, the Rev. Richard H. Trump officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mr. Peot was born May 17, 1894, at Kewaunee, son of George and the late Mrs. Ella Rudenbeck Peot. When he was a child the family brought him to Two Rivers where he had resided since. Attending Two Rivers High School, he became an employe in the sheet metal department of the old R.H. Suettinger Hardware Co., and was a tinsmith with the succeeding R.G. Suettinger firm until 1934 when he took employment at Two Rivers Beverage Co. for five years. Since 1940 he had been a maltster at the Rahr company until his retirement in March. Mr. Peot married the former Martha Benzinger at Manitowoc May 17, 1917. He held numerous offices in the Maltsters Union at Manitowoc in the past number of years. MARTHA PETERKE From Der Nord Westen, 27 Oct. 1892: Death last Thurs. of the 34 yr. old widow of the late Carl Peterke who died several years ago. Since his death she has made a living weaving reed chairs. The burial was Sun. in the Evangelical Cemetery.


WILHELMINA PETERKE From Der Nord Westen, 07 Sep. 1905: Death Sat. in Two Rivers of Mrs. Wilhelmine Peterke, widow of Friedrich Peterke who died about 20 yrs. ago. The deceased was born 06 Jan. 1828 in Pomerania and came to Two Rivers in 1864 where she has lived ever since. She is survived by 4 children and 8 grandchildren. The funeral was held Tues. from the Evangelical Church.


ELLA PETERSON Mrs. Victor Peterson, 82, of 1801-28th St., Two Rivers, died early Monday morning at Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers, where she was a resident for only two days. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, the Rev. Vernon Hauser officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Peterson, nee Ella Winkelmiller, was born Jan. 30, 1889, at Two Rivers, and daughter of Richard and Sophie Heyroth Winkelmiller. She attended the Two Rivers public schools and Two Rivers High School. She was married to Victor Peterson at Two Rivers in 1914. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Russel of Fullterton, Calif., and Kenneth of Manitowoc; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Breivogel and Mrs. Russell Kirchner of Two Rivers, and Mrs. Ralph Brouchoud of Rhinelander; two sisters, a twin, Mrs. Earl Lindsey of Neillsville, and Mrs. William Brey of Manitowoc; 16 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. IDA C. PFEFFERKORN Mrs. August Pfefferkorn, 63, lifelong Manitowoc county resident died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Capelle, 2358 Roosevelt avenue, Two Rivers. She had been sick for the past three and one-half weeks. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Emanuel Evangelical church at Two Rivers with the Rev. F.E. Schlueter officiating. Interment will be in Pioneers' Rest cemetery. Mrs. Pfefferkorn, nee Ida Raatz, was born in the town of Two Rivers Dec. 29, 1876, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raatz. She was married to Mr. Pfefferkorn on June 14, 1900 and the couple took up farming in the town of Two Rivers. They lived there until the death of Mr. Pfefferkorn in 1925. In 1925 Mrs. Pfefferkorn came to live with her daughter. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Carl Capelle of Two Rivers; one son, Erwin, a teacher at Waupun; three brothers, Herman and William of Manitowoc, and Leo of Appleton; and three grandchildren. The body was taken to the Beduhn funeral home where it may be viewed until 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. ADAM PFEIFER From Der Nord Westen, 27 Sept. 1894: Adam Pfeifer, a 72 yr. old resident of Two Rivers, intended to travel to Newton Sat. morning to attend a wedding. He took the 8 o’clock morning train from Manitowoc, but because he was totally deaf, he missed the announcement for the Newton Station stop and traveled on to Cleveland. There he got off and started back toward Newton on foot. He had traveled several miles along the track as the northbound express train approached. The engineer gave the warning signal, but naturally Pfeifer didn’t hear. When the engineer saw that his warning signal had not taken effect, he hit the brakes so hard that the passengers were thrown from their seats, but it was too late. The cowcatcher hit the unlucky man and threw him to the side. When the train came to a stop and the poor individual was reached, he was already dead. An inquest was held and the coroner’s jury found the locomotive engineer to be blameless. The body was then brought back to Two Rivers.


GOTTLIEB PITZOLDT Gottfried Petzoldt, a pioneer settler of the town of Two Rivers, died last Saturday at the home of Mr. John Drier from the results of a surgical operation, he being too feeble and old to recover from the schock (sic) thereof. The operation was made in the hopes of prolonging his life. He was born in Battendorf, Saxony, October 16, 1823 and was married while still in Saxony to Caroline Brandt. He came to this country and settled upon a farm a few miles north of here about 50 years ago. He was a Union soldier during the war of the Rebellion and a member of Jos. Rankin Post G.A.R. He leaves five daughters (all of whom are married) and one son. The funeral takes place this afternoon from St. John's church. From the Two Rivers Chronicle, Feb. 14, 1905

JOHN PULS John A. (Johnny) Puls, 31, of 2110 Emmet St., Two Rivers, died unexpectedly early Monday morning at St. Mary Home, Manitowoc, where he had been a resident the past two weeks. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Paul W. Funk officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers. Johnny Puls was born Aug. 27, 1937, at Two Rivers, a son of the late Fred and Cordelia Fanslau Puls. He attended the public elementary schools at Two Rivers and had been employed at Holiday House, Manitowoc. TILLIE PULS Mrs. Tillie Puls, 78, of Hamilton Memorial Home, formerly of Rt. 1, Two Rivers, died Friday noon at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. Mrs. Puls, nee Tillie Kloida, was born Oct. 23, 1892, in Town of Carlton, Kewaunee County, daugher of the late Anton and Frances Parma Kloida. She was married to August Puls who died in 1926. She is survived by a son, Alfred, of Baldwin Park, Calif., three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
