AMALIE BAUMANN Our community has again been called to mourn the loss of a promising young life. When the sad message of the death of Mollie Baumann was received here Monday evening, all thoughts turned in inexpressible sympathy to the bereaved father, who during the last year, also suffered the loss of his wife and grandchild. While attending the university Mollie was stricken with influenza, pneumonia developing soon after. She was taken to the hospital, but the best of nursing and medical skill failed to save her life; complications developed and she expired Monday. Her sister, Mrs. Oscar Griebenow, of Owen and her brother, Helmuth, of Milwaukee, were with her at the hospital. The body was brought home Tuesday evening, accompanied by her brother Helmuth. Funeral services will take place at C. J. Meiselwitz undertaking rooms this afternoon, Rev. Rech officiating. Mollie Baumann was born in Kiel, Nov. 4, 1897. Here she grew to womanhood, attending the public school until her graduation in 1915. Her record in the public school was one to be justly proud of, her cleverness and application to duty having won for her the honor of class valedictorian. At the same time she took an active and interested part in all social activities of the school where she was a general favorite. After graduation she remained at home a year, entering the university in 1916, where her exceptional ability won the recognition of the faculty. Last year she was awarded a scholarship—one of a few given each year to a deserving student of the university. Wherever she was known there is grieving for her loss. Her school companions, her college mates, her friends in our community—all refer tenderly to the sweetness of her disposition and the beauty of her character. In the home circle, where she will be so sadly missed, she leaves her father, E. P. Baumann; one sister, Mrs. Oscar Griebenow, of Owen; and four brothers, Gustave of Evansville, Herbert, in Indiana, Helmuth of Milwaukee and Adolph, in Iowa. To these the deep sympathy of many sorrowing friends is extended. (No newspaper named, 1919)
