HERMAN BOETTCHER Fish Swim Right into House Nature put it in the hands of one Reedsville man to beat the H.C.L. at least for a day when three good sized pickerel were found in water which flooded his basement. Many cellars at Reedsville have drains opening into the creek and when the creek suddenly rises, as it did the past week during the heavy rains, home owners who neglect to close the drains find their cellars flooded. Herman Boettcher who by the way, has been chief of the fire department at Reedsville and in his official capacity was too busy to look after his own cellar, returned home the other day to find the basement under water. Boettcher heard a noise and investigated and discovered three large pickerel which had been carried into the drain and were unable to find their way out. Fair prey. Nuff said. CLARENCE BRUSS CLARENCE, SEVEN YEAR OLD SON OF MR. AND MRS. BRUSS, REEDSVILLE, DROWNS IN SWOLLEN CREEK Fell From Bridge And Carried To His Death-Physicians' Efforts At Resuscitation Are Futile Clarence Bruss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bruss at Reedsville was carried to his death yesterday afternoon in the swollen water of the creek which passes through the center of the village. The youth, with his companions, went to a bridge crossing the stream to watch the swift current. He accidently fell into the water and was carried 500 feet down stream before his body was recovered by Herman Boettcher, who had been called to the scene by the cries of the boy's playmates. Doctors worked over him for an hour in the hope of resusitation but the spark of life could not be fanned back. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the home of the parents. Was An Only Son Clarence Bruss was 7 years old and an only son. He was a pupil in the second grade of the Reedsville school and with a number of companions at recess time yesterday afternoon went to the bridge, near the school to watch the current in the creek which has been swollen to the depth of six feet. The boys started to drop in boards and chips and watch them pass under the bridge and Clarence leaned over the edge of the bridge and caught a number of these. In the play he lost his balance and plunged into the icy water and was instantly carried beyond the reach of his small companions. Their cries brought a number of citizens to the scene but the boy was carried 500 feet down stream before his body was recovered. Boettcher waded out into the stream and made the recovery when the body was caught by electric light wires. Can't Revive Spark of Life There appeared to be a faint spark of life when the boy's body was brought ashore and for more then an hour the doctors worked trying to resuscitate him but the effort failed. Clarence was born at Reedsville, his father having conducted a jewelry store in the village for many years. Beside his parents he is survived by two sisters, Minnie and Lynetta, both of whom are employed as telephone operators at the Reedsville central. He was a bright youth, popular with his playmates at the school, and his death has cast a pall over the whole village. Manitowoc Herald New, Manitowoc, Wis. Thursday, March 16, 1922 P. 1

LOUIS GRIMM Louis Grimm, father of Mrs. H. E. Schmitt of the village, and well known locally, was instantly killed last Friday at Grimms, Wis., when he was struck in the head by a flying circular saw which had become loose from the rigging when the saw shaft and pully broke loose, causing the saw to swing to one side out of position. GOTTLIEB HAESE REEDSVILLE FARMER MEETS WITH ACCIDENT THAT MAY CAUSE DEATH GOTTLIEB HAESE RUN OVER BY WAGON HEAVILY LOADED WITH SAND. BOTH LEGS AND ONE ARM BROKEN. STILL UNCONSCIOUS Falling under the wheels of a wagon containing a heavy load of sand, Gottlieb Haese, a well known farmer living three miles from Reedsville, was run over and sustained injuries that may prove fatal. The accident occurred in the village of Reedsville at 5:30 last evening when in reaching for a line that had slipped down, the farmer fell under the wagon. The wheels passed over the legs and shoulder of Haese, breaking both limbs and fracturing the shoulder. The team ran away. Haese was picked up and carried in the Schultz store and Dr. Carey called. Haese was removed to the hospital here where physicians may amputate one leg in an effort to save his life. Haese is a well known farmer of the county, about 45 years of age, and the sympathy of the community is extended to the family. It is hope his life may be spared. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Saturday, May 15, 1915, Page 1 ********* REEDSVILLE MAN FAILS TO SURVIVE RUNAWAY INJURIES GOTTLIEB HAESE, CRUSHED UNDER WAGON WEEK AGO, SUCCUMBS AT HOSPITAL IN THIS CITY LAST NIGHT OPERATION, LAST RESORT PROVES FUTILE HOPE Gottlieb Haese, a Reedsville man injured a week ago when he fell under a heavily loaded wagon and was crushed by the wheels when his team ran away, failed to survive his injuries and died at the Holy family hospital in this city last evening. The body was taken to Reedsville this morning and the funeral will probably be held on Saturday. Five hours before death Haese submitted to an operation for amputation of his leg which physicians said was the only hope of saving his life, but the hope proved a futile one and at 6 o'clock last evening death relieved him. Haese was terribly injured in the accident which happened at Reedsville last Friday evening. He sustained a compound fracture of the left leg from which gas bacillus developed and caused death, his right arm was broken, his right leg injured and the collar bone fractured. It was not thought that Haese suffered internal injuries but his condition when brought here was very serious and though the man, due to his strong constitution, put up a hard battle for life, the infection from the injury to the leg could not be overcome and caused death. The dead man 51 years of age and was a well known farmer, residing near Reedsville. He had visited the village with a load of sand and fell under the wagon when he was endeavoring to recover hold on a rein which had slipped from his hands over the dash board and behind the team. The horses started suddenly and Haese was thrown from the wagon under the wheels and the heavy load passed over his body. He was picked up unconscious and suffered greatly at the hospital from his injuries. Mr. Haese is survived by a widow and large family of children residing at Reedsville. He was well known throughout the county and in this city. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Thursday, May 20, 1915, Page 8
