CHARLES C. BEHNKE Charles C. Behnke, 74, of Reedsville died Friday afternoon at home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John-St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville. The Rev. Harvey Heckendorf will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Behnke was born March 13, 1889, in the Town of Rockland, son of the late Carl A. and Minnie Schultz Behnke. He married Emily Maertz May 24, 1916, at St. John-St. James Church by the late Rev. Henry Koch and he farmed as well as operating a feeder pig business. He was president and trustee of St. John- St. James Church for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, a son, Clifford of Algoma; a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Wilharms of Milwaukee; three brothers, Henry of Rt. 2, Reedsville, Ernst of Rt. 1, Reedsville, and Eugene of Greenleaf; three sisters, Mrs. Alvina Bratz of Appleton, Mrs. Henry Mahnke of Rt. 4 Chilton, and Mrs. Roland Hillman of rural Brillion; and a grandchild. Two children and two sisters preceded him in death. IDA BEHNKE Mrs Adolph Behnke of the town of Rockland died at her home last Thursday, the day following her forty-fifth birthday anniversary. Her death is mourned by a large circle of friends. She is survived by the husband, two sons, Martin and Roland and four daughters, Josephine, Helen, Rosaline, and Sophia. Her aged father, Theo. Last of Lena, also survives, and two sisters, Mrs Henry Dallmann of Rockland and Mrs Ferdinand Behnke of Lena, two brothers, Fred Last of Lena and Carl Last of Duck Creek. EDNA BERGMANN Mrs. Fred J. Bergmann, 41, died this morning at her home in Reedsville, after suffering a stroke Sunday evening. Funeral services will be held at the Reedsville Co-operative funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. at St. John-James Ev. Lutheran church. The Rev. Harold Eckert will officiate at the rite. Mrs. Bergmann, nee Edna Hein, was married in 1925 to Fred Bergmann, who survives her. DANIEL BIRKHOLZ Daniel Birkholz Dies After A long Illness Daniel Birkholz, 77, Reedsville, passed away at his home at 8 o'clock Thursday morning following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church, the Rev. H.W. Koch officiating. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. The deceased was born March 21, 1857 in Germany. He came to America with his parents at the age of 10 and settled on a farm north of Reedsville. Twenty-nine years ago he moved into Reedsville. Mr. Birkholh (sic) was married twice. The first time to Bertha Jantz, who died in 1903. He then married Mrs. Emma Mueller, widow of William Mueller, August 31, 1908. Survivors besides the widow are: four sons, August of West Bend, William of Reedsville and Leonard and Albert of Manitowoc; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Danning and Mrs. Herman Wille of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Gust Prochnow of Reedsville; five step-sons, Emil Mueller of Antigo, William Mueller of Darlington, Julius Mueller of San Francisco, Arthur Mueller of Manitowoc and Clarence Mueller of Two Rivers; a step daughter, Elsie Mueller at home; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Boettcher of Medford, Mrs. Bertha Porath of Wausau, and Mrs. Joseph Hodak of Milladore; three brothers, August of Reedsville, Emil of Bonduel, and William of Wausau; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. FRIEDRICH BUBOLZ From Der Nord Westen, 04 Nov. 1909: Friedrich Buboltz, a prominent resident of Town Rockland and father of our County Treasurer, died Sunday as a result of a stroke he had suffered on Friday. Mr. Buboltz, who was 76, came to Manitowoc County in 1855 and has lived here ever since. He served during the Civil War in General Sherman’s army and participated in the famous march through Georgia. He is survived by his widow, 5 sons and 5 daughters. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon.

January 2, 1971 ************ Reedsville Youth, Jeffrey Csida Dies After Beating Authorities said Tuesday that there were no new developments to report in the investigation of the Jeffrey D. Csida homicide case. Csida, the 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Csida of 606 Mill St., Reedsville, was found beaten and lying in a ditch one mile south of Cato, at about 8:27 A.M. Friday. The youth died of a skull fracture about seven hours later at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. The fatal injury had been caused by a blunt instrument, Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen, County Coroner, reported following the autopsy. Authorities as yet have made no announcement regarding the motive in the slaying. Some items have been forwarded to the state crime laboratory. Dist. Atty. Allan J. Deehr said Monday. He also stated that no one had been taken into custody nor had any complaints been issued. CARL FOKETT CARL FOKETT, LAST BUT ONE OF WAR VETS, DIES AT REEDSVILLE Well Known Pioneer of County Who Was One of Two Surviving Veterans of War in Reedsville, Passes Away Carl Fokett, pioneer resident of Manitowoc county and the last but one of the civil war veterans of Reedsville, died at his home in that village last night at the age of 70 years. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Mr. Fokett was one of the best known residents of his home village and widely known throughout the county and had a large circle of friends in this city. He had been in failing health for some time and during the past few weeks it had become apparent that there was little hope for his recovery. Coming to Manitowoc in his early days, Mr. Fokett, a native of Germany, settled on a farm. When war was declared in the 60’s Mr. Fokett enlisted with the Eighteenth Wisconsin and served with distinction. He was a prominent G.A.R. man. Mr. Fokett is survived by a widow and five sons and five daughters; Oscar, August, Louis, Charles, William, Mrs. Young, Menasha; Mrs. Haug. WALTER A. GOLDBECK RESIDENT DIES OF GUN WOUNDS Walter Goldbeck, Who Lived At Reedsville, Is Slain In Tavern Row Walter Goldbeck, 31, former Reedsville resident, wounded by a pistol bullet in an argument with two men in a Chicago tavern last Saturday, died in a hospital in that city, according to word received here late yesterday. According to the Chicago police, Goldbeck was shot when he sought to have a suitor discontinue attentions to his 17-year-old sister, Loretta. Santo Beninato, said to have fired the shot, fled the scene but later surrendered to the police. The body is now at the Gentine funeral home in Plymouth, where Goldbeck's mother, Mrs. August Goldbeck, now resides. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon and burial will be in the Reedsville cemetery. Chicago reports of the shooting were to the effect that Goldbeck went to a tavern where he met Santo and Joseph Beninato, whose family operates the tavern. Police said Goldbeck went there to demand that Joseph Beninato cease his attentions to Loretta Goldbeck. In the fight that followed Santo is said to have seized a revolver and fired several shots, one of which struck Goldbeck in the shoulder. Santo fled but later gave himself up to the police. Walter Goldbeck was the driver of an automobile which figued in an accident near Reedsville July 11, 1932 and resulted in the death of his father, August, and a sister. Survivors are the mother, a resident of Plymouth; three sisters, Mrs. John Dirks of Rhine Center, Wis., Loretta and Verna, of Plymouth; three brothers, Henry, Aaron and Arthur, of Chicago. IRENE HENNRICKS Irene C. Hennricks Jacques, Kaukauna, age 92 died on Wednesday Sept. 16, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born on Dec. 8 1916, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, to the late Charles and Catherine (Schaeffer) Zeddies. Irene is survived by her four children, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law and special friend. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. WALTER JANTZ KILLED IN MASON CITY IOWA Was Killed by Train in Railway Yards at That Place Word was received here today that Walter Jantz, former Reedsville man, was killed in Mason City, Ia., on Sunday. The message announcing the death of the young man, gave no particulars other that he had been killed by a train in the railway yards there. Jantz was not a railway man by occupation and some mystery attaches to the circumstances. Jantz, who was about 20 years of age, was a son of Daniel Jantz of Reedsville and the message came as a distinct shock. Members of the family have gone to Mason City to bring back the body. The couple farmed in the Town of Rockland. GOTTFRIED O. KRUEGER From Der Nord Westen, 18 Sep. 1902: Tues. morning Gottfried O. Krueger of Maple Grove was driving to Reedsville when his horse shied and ran away. Krueger was thrown from his wagon and dragged a half mile. He died a few minutes after being found.
HENRY A. KRUEGER From Der Nord Westen, 16 Mar. 1905: As Henry Krueger, a well-known resident of Reedsville, was coming home to Reedsville from Collins Wed. afternoon last week, he felt suddenly ill. He was stricken with cramps and arrived home at the point of total exhaustion. As soon as he got home medical help was summoned, but despite all their skill, Krueger died Thurs. morning. The deceased, who was 38 yrs. old, had for many years operated a business in Reedsville and had always enjoyed the best of health until the trip from Collins Wed. morning. He is survived by a widow and 7 children.
BERTHA MAERTZ Mrs. Fred W. Maertz, 85, of Rt. 1, Reedsville, died Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. She had been ill two weeks. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John-St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville. The Rev. John Hering will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The former Bertha Bubolz was born Oct. 8, 1884, in Town of Maple Grove, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late John and Emilie Fischer Bubolz. She was married to Fred W. Maertz in 1906. The couple farmed near Reedsville until 1943, retiring and moving to the village. Mr. Maertz died Nov. 28, 1946. Mrs. Maertz was a lifetime member of St. John-St. James Church. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Alma) Schwahn of Wayside, Mrs. Reinhard (Verna) Bruss and Mrs. Ewald (Lilly) Pantzloff of Maribel and Mrs. Roland (Leona) Mahnke of Reedsville; a son, Arnold, on the home farm; a sister, Mrs. Anna Engelbrecht; two brothers, Fred and William; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A sister, two brothers and four grandchildren preceded her in death. BERTHA SCHMIDT MEYER Mrs. William Meyer, nee Bertha Kosmoski, Maple Grove, died last night at the Holy Family hospital following a stoke. She was 68. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coop funeral home, Reedsville, and at 2 o'clock at the St. John-James Lutheran church with burial in adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Harold Eckhardt will officiate. Mrs. Meyer was born Nov. 11, 1877, in the town of Rockland. She was married to John Schmidt and they operated a farm in Maple Grove. He died in 1924. In January of 1940 she married William Meyer of Brillion. He died in 1942. Survivors include two daughters. Mrs. E. ALBERT MUELLER From Der Nord Westen, 07 Feb. 1901: Death of Albert Mueller following a stroke on Tues. evening in Reedsville. Mr. Mueller felt perfectly well in the afternoon of his death and went to his business as usual. About 4 o'clock he suffered a stroke and died shortly after 6 p.m. Mr. Mueller was widely known in our city and highly esteemed by his fellow citizens, having filled many administrative posts. He was 45-yrs. old and leaves his widow and 3 children. Mrs. Mueller was in Nebraska attending the funeral of her mother, who had died there, and was notified of this latest trick of destiny by telegraph.

FRED NICHOLAUS Fred Nicholaus, 70, retired farmer, died last night at his home in the village of Reedsville. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Reedsville Cooperative funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the St. John-James Evangelical Lutheran church, Reedsville, of which congregation Mr. Nicholaus served as trustee for 24 years. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Nicholaus was born in Chicago in 1875 and when a boy accompanied his parents to a farm in Franklin, east of Reedsville. He married Miss Emilie Engelbrecht at Cooperstown in 1907. Six weeks ago he retired and moved to Reedsville. He is survived by his wife; son, Prof. Herbert Nicholaus, teaching at Lake Forest college, in Illinois, daughter, Mrs. Clarence Maertz of Reedsville; and three grandchildren. PETER REINEMANN From Der Nord Westen, 23 Sept. 1909: An eminent resident of Village Reedsville, Peter Reinemann, was the victim of a deplorable fatal accident Thursday afternoon last week at the Western Supply elevator in Reedsville. (Detailed account of the accident in which a wagon loaded with grain was in the process of being moved by a team of horses. A piece of iron broke from the connection and hit Reinemann, the foreman, in the chest with such force that he was rendered unconscious. He was being taken to his home, but died before arriving. The Coroner was notified, but no inquest was ordered.) Reinemann was 53 years old and is survived by a widow and 5 children. A brother, John Reinemann lives in Cleveland, and a brother-in-law, Peter Herman resides in Manitowoc. The funeral was conducted on Sunday.

AUGUST ZIMMERMANN (d. 1915) REEDSVILLE MAN DROPS DEAD OF HEART FAILURE WHILE PALL BEARER AT FUNERAL OF FRIEND Stricken by an attack of heart failure, August Zimmerman, Sr., a well known resident of Reedsville, died suddenly while attending the funeral of Mrs. Fechner, a friend and as he officiated as one of the pall bearers at the funeral, Mr. Zimmerman died almost instantly. The funeral party had left the Fechner home on its way to the Lutheran church and Mr. Zimmerman had assisted in carrying the coffin to the hearse. The cortege had proceeded but a little way toward the church when, without a word of warning, Mr. Zimmerman was stricken and died on the walk. Mr. Zimmerman was 73 years of age but in apparent robust health. He was a native of Germany and for years had resided on a farm three miles northwest of Reedsville.
