WILHELM TECH From Der Nord Westen, 02 Oct. 1902: Last Sun. Wilhelm Tech, Sr., who lives at 1027 South 14th St., went to Two Rivers to visit the street carnival. He caught the last streetcar back to Manitowoc and got off at 13th St. However, he never reached home and remained missing despite all efforts to find him. It was feared he might have become confused upon leaving the streetcar, went in the wrong direction and fell into the river. This possibility was dismissed as unlikely because he was a long time resident and knew the streets. However, because he remained missing, a search of the river was begun yesterday and his body was soon found. Wilhelm Tech was 51 and a tanner by trade. He has lived alone ever since his wife died 3 yrs. ago. ******* [cause: drowning]

CHRIST H. TEGEN C.H. TEGEN, ARCHITECT, AND BUILDER OF COUNTY’S NEW COURT HOUSE DIES TODAY IN HOSPITAL Death of Mr. Tegen Occurs Just Twelve Weeks to Day, from that of His Wife. Is Last of Men Identified with Building of Court House a Few Years Ago Christian H. Tegen, well known architect and builder of the new Manitowoc county court house, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital at 5 o’clock this morning, Mr. Tegen’s death occurring just 12 weeks to a day after that of his wife who passed away on December 23. News of the death of Mr. Tegen was not unexpected as for some time past his condition had been such as to afford no hope of recovery. He was removed to the hospital ten days ago from the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.J. Healy, where he had been cared for following the death of Mrs. Tegen. His condition had grown steadily worse and early this morning the end came. Mr. Tegen was 63 years of age and had been a resident of this city for over twenty years. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and came to Wisconsin thirty five years ago, residing at Milwaukee before locating in this city. For years, Mr. Tegen was engaged in business as an architect and super- intended the erection of many business buildings and homes in the city, the new court house and the addition to the present Teitgen block being among the important contracts which he directed. Owing to failing health Mr. Tegen retired about a year ago and since that time had been an invalid. Three months ago Mrs. Tegen became ill and died shortly after being taken to the hospital, her life being sacrificed to care of her husband during his illness. Mr. Tegen is survived by three children, Mrs. J.J. Healy and Miss Paula Tegen, of this city and one son, Robert Tegen, of Portland, Ore. Decedent was a member of the Elks lodge and the funeral Monday from the Healy home on Marshall street will be under the auspices of the local lodge of Elks. Few men of the city were better known than Mr. Tegen and he enjoyed popularity among a large circle of friends to whom he was familiarly known as “Chris.” The death of Mr. Tegen removes the last of those identified with building of the new courthouse ten years ago, every member of the building committee having passed away. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Saturday, March 17, 1917, Page 1 ********* Mr. and Mrs. William Tegen, Mrs. C. Plambeck and Carl Lange of Milwaukee were here to attend the funeral of the late C.H. The wagon was stopped and he was carried into the nearby residence of Walter Pellett. A doctor was called and reported that Tegen had breathed his last. The doctor was able to establish that he had suffered a heart attack. The deceased was 43 years old and had lived his entire life in Manitowoc. EDWARD THORISON (d. 1923) FUNERAL OF ALD. THORISEN(sic) HELD HERE ON MONDAY Had Premonition of Death When He Left 4 Weeks Ago Funeral services for the late Edward Thorisen, announcement of whose death at Rochester, Minn., yesterday came as a great shock to the community, will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's Lutheran church, the Rev. O.K. Espeseth officating. The Masonic order will have charge of the service at the grave at Evergreen. The body of Mr. Thorisen will arrive from Rochester at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning and will be escorted by Frank E. Diebert, head of the Masonic order who left for that city last evening to take charge of the remains and bring them to this city. The body will be met by city officials who will attend the funeral in a body Monday. Had Premonition of Death. That Mr. Thorisen had a premonition that he would not return from Rochester alive, was learned today from associates in the city council whom he advised of his plan for an operation. On the day previous to his departure Mr. Thorisen while in conference with one of his committees told his colleagues that it was probably the last time he would meet with them and feelingly expressed the appreciation of the kindly relations which had been enjoyed. Later however, after the operation at Rochester, Mr. Thorisen had been more hopeful and on Thursday a letter written by Mr. Thorisen advised his family that he was to leave the hospital and was planning an early return home but intended to visit a sister at St. Paul en route. This would indicate that death was due to a sudden heart attack superinduced by complications suddenly developed. Unusual Record as Official Mr. Thorisen enjoyed an unusual record as a city official, one which is probably unequaled by a municipal officer of any city. Elected to the council in 1905, Mr. Thorisen served continuously as a member of that body for twelve years and during the entire period, he never missed a meeting of the city board. After a three year retirement, he was again elected two years ago and re-elected last spring, and maintained his record of constant attendance up to the time he left for Rochester three weeks ago. On one occasion several years ago Mr. Thorisen underwent an operation of minor nature but insisted on attending the regular meeting of the council. During his service as a member of the council, Mr. Thorisen had been honored on numerous occasions by election as president of the council, a position which he held at the time he was stricken down. He served on many important committees and had been especially interested in harbor improvement work and in the perfecting of efficiency of the fire department, much of the modern equipment and improvement of this department having been accomplished during the time he served as chairman of the fire and water committee. Born in Norway Born in Norway April 13, 1867, Mr. Thorisen was 56 years of age at the time of his death. His family located here when he was four years old, his father being a carpenter. Later the family moved to Decorah, Iowa, for a number of years and later returned here where Mr. Thorisen apprenticed as a moulder, learned his trade and worked at the Smalley and Richards plants. Thirteen years ago he became associated with the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry company and was with that concern up to the time of his death. Mr. Thorisen's mother died when he was twelve years old and his father, who in his later years, made his home at Webster, S.D., died about two years ago. Mr. Thorisen visited his father at Webster only a short time before the latter's death, it having been his first visit with him in twenty years. Mr. Thorisen is survived by his wife, who was Rose Chakoski previous to their marriage on August 27, 1892, and by one son, Clifford, of this city. Two brothers Evan, of Florence, S.D. and James of Wallace, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Inga Gunderson of Webster, S.D. and Mrs. Peter Jacobson of St. Paul, also survive him. Served With Old Co. H. Enlisting with the old national guard unit, company H. of this city in 1889, Mr. Thorisen served with the company for seven years, and in 1894 was elected second lieutenant when Capt. William Abel was in command of the company and C.A. Groffman was first lieutenant. He was a member of Manitowoc lodge No. 65, F. and A.M., and of Manitowoc chapter No. 16 Royal Arch Masons and was also a member of the local camp., Order of Maccabees. Mr. Thorisen was a member of the Iron Moulders' union, local branch and also a member of St. Paul's Norwegian Lutheran church. Manitowoc Herald News, Manitowoc, Wis.
