GUY MILLAR Guy Millar, 50, of 1309 Washington street, died Saturday at Rochester, Minn., where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. Mr. Millar had been ill since January 21. Funeral services will be held Wednesday mroning at 8:30 from the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9 o'clock from the St. Boniface Catholic church. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The American Legion will have charge of the services. Mr. Millar was born February 27, 1888 in Canada. He came to the United States when he was 15 years of age and to Manitowoc about 25 years ago. On March 17, 1919, after serving in the army, he married Miss Hannah Gehbe, who survives. He was employed as a crane operator for the Bahr Construction company. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles. Survivors besides the widow include two daughters, Jane and Rose, both at home; one brother and six sisters, all residing in Canada. HANNAH G. MILLAR Mrs. Guy Millar, 84, a former Manitowoc resident, died Monday at Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Very Rev. Msgr. Alfred A. Schneider will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Millar, nee Hannah Gehbe, was born Oct. 17, 1886, at Clark Mills, daughter of the late Frank and Anna Gehbe. She was married to Guy Millar March 17, 1919, at Superior. Her husband preceded her in death April 2, 1938. Mrs. Millar was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society of St. Boniface Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Jane) Groves, of Memphis and Mrs. Henry (Rose) Wagner, of Manitowoc and six grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Walker were united in marriage at a ceremony performed at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Gehbe, Quay Street, Wednesday afternoon and the bridal couple departed late in the day on a honeymoon to Chicago, Milwaukee and other points. Judge John Chloupek officiated at the ceremony, which was characterized by simplicity. Miss Barbara Leary of Oshkosh and John Morrisey of Washington D.C., attended the couple. The home was prettily decorated with red and white roses and smilax and following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Walker will be at home at the Toledo after December 1. Bride and groom are well known young people who have surrounded themselves with a large circle of friends who tender sincere congratulations. The bride has been employed as bookkeeper for the Palace Laundry and has been a resident of the city most of her life. LENA MILLARD Mrs. Lena Millard, 77, a lifelong resident of the city, died Wednesday at the Concordia Home, Milwaukee, where she had been a patient for a month. Mrs. Millard, whose maiden name was Lena Brochmann, was born in this city in 1859. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Mary Sohrweide, city, and a brother, Fred Brochmann, St. Paul. Mrs. Millard for some time made her home with her nephew, Emil Sohrweide, 1130 South 12th street. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at two o'clock from the First German Evangelical Lutheran church. O.H. MILLARD O.H. MILLIARD DEAD, BODY TO BE SENT HERE O.H. Milliard, formerly a veterinary surgeon of this city who had been ill for a year and had been under care of specialists at Oshkosh, died there yesterday. The body will be brought here this afternoon and funeral services will be held from the family home on So. Eighth street tomorrow afternoon. Mr. Milliard was 63 years of age and conducted an office here until ill health forced him to retire. He was married here to Miss Lena Brockman, who survives. Burial will be at Evergreen. ACHSA MILLER Mrs. Johnathan Miller, 79, nee Achsa Kloss, died at her home at 932 North 14th street early this morning after a long illness. She was born in 1865 in Two Rivers. she was married in 1882 and after the marriage, the couple moved to Minnesota to live. In 1917 they came to Manitowoc to make their home. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. E.P. Dicke, Manitowoc and Mrs. William Bennett, Garrison, Montana; one brother, Jethro Kloss of Brooke, Va.; one sister, Mrs. T. Dinsen of South Laguna, Calif.; none (sic) grandchildren. She was a member of the Westminster circle of the First Presbyterian church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shimek and Schwartz funeral home, the Rev. C.H. Phipps officiating. The body may be viewed from 7 p.m. Sunday until time of services. ADA M. MILLER Mrs. Clarence Miller, 88, of 857 N. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening at Park Lawn Nursing Home, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gervase Zanotti will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Miller, nee Ada Briggs, was born Feb. 25, 1882, at Atlanta, Iowa, daughter of the late Chester and Luella Robinson Briggs. Her family moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa, when she was an infant. She attended schools in Missouri Valley and graduated from the high school in 1900. She had been employed in a department store in Missouri Valley until 1906. She was married to Clarence Miller Nov. 21, 1906, at Missouri Valley. The couple moved to Chicago and resided there until 1910 and then moved to Huron, S.D., until 1911. In January of 1911 the couple moved to Oconto and resided there for seven years before coming to Manitowoc in 1918. Her husband is a retired employe of the Northwestern Railroad. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Crystal) King, of Elmhurst, Ill., and a granddaughter. Three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. ALBERT AND JULIA MILLER (d. 1946) Two Overcome By Gas; Man Dies at Lunch Counter An aged couple was asphyxiated by gas as they slept in their west side home early Sunday morning…Albert J. Miller, 73, and his wife, Julia, 75, of 2002 Western avenue. Albert Engel, 56, of 420 North Ninth street. The Millers were found dead in bed shortly before noon Sunday by a daughter and son. A gas jet in the oven of the kitchen range, left partially open by mistake, had permitted gas fumes to filter through the home. A daughter, Esther, who had resided with her parents, had gone to Milwaukee Saturday for a weekend visit. Another daughter, Mrs. Ben J. Schmiedicke, who went to the home to stay with her parents shortly before 11 o’clock found the doors locked and received no answer to her knock. She called her brother, Earl, and they forced the door to find Mr. and Mrs. Miller dead. Services Tuesday Coroner Theodore Teitgen, who was summoned, said Mrs. Miller had recently undergone an operation for a cataract and her sight had been impaired. He added she probably was not aware that she had failed to turn the gas stove burner completely off. Double funeral services will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Miller at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Carroll Hinderlie officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The bodies may be viewed at the funeral home. Mr. Miller was born in this city in 1873 and in 1902 married Miss Julia Mathieson in Gibson. He was employed for many years as a millwright at the plant of the American Seating company. When that plant moved away he was employed at the ship yards and in recent years has been custodian at the Manitowoc Vocational school. Heart Attack Fatal. ALLEN E. MILLER (d. 1982) Allen E. Miller, 49, of 1627 Lilac Drive, Manitowoc, died Monday, Sept. 27, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with cremation having taken place. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate. Mr. Miller was born Jan. 12, 1933, son of Victor E. Miller and Esther Liedtke Miller. He was graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers, with the class of 1950. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany from 1953 to 1965. He married Phyliss Koch Aug. 13, 1955 at Manitowoc. Mr. Miller was owner of A.E. Miller Advertising Company, Manitowoc. Survivors include his wife, Phyliss; a son, Christopher Miller of Manitowoc; two daughters, Suzanne and Lori of Manitowoc; his mother, Esther Miller of Two Rivers, and his father, Victor E. ALVIN W. MILLER Alvin W. Miller, 78, a former Manitowoc resident who resided with his son Earl, of Battle Creek, Mich., died Friday at Kimball Hospital, Battle Creek, Mich. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Miller was born April 1, 1893, at Manitowoc son of the late Karl and Lena Begalke Miller. He married Anna Mueller in 1915 at Milwaukee. She preceded him in death in 1921. ANNA MILLER (d. 1921) DEATH TAKES A YOUNG WIFE AND MOTHER, AGE 26 Death, terminating a year of illness, claimed a young wife and mother yesterday, when Mrs. Alvin Miller, Hamilton street, passed away at Maple Crest. Funeral services will be held from St. Luke’s church at Two Rivers Friday morning and interment will be at Evergreen in this city. Mrs. Miller was 26 years of age and had been at Maple Crest for a month. She is survived by her husband and two children, a girl of four and a boy of two years. MILLER DIES TUESDAY Martin Miller Finds Wife Dead After Return From Work Mrs. Anna Miller, 73, wife of Martin Miller, 1841 Michigan avenue, died suddenly at the home Tuesday afternoon. When Mr. Miller arrived home from work early last evening he found his wife dead in bed. She had been in poor health for the past two years. The maiden name of the deceased was Anna Berger and she was born in Germany in 1860. Mr. and Mrs. Miller resided in this city for the past 30 years. ANTHONY F. MILLER (d. 1975) Anthony (Tony) Miller, 39, of 1441 N. 23rd St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Leo J. Schmitt will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Miller was born June 2, 1935, at Stevens Point, son of Joseph Miller and the late Eva Malkowicz Miller. He was graduated from St. Bonaventure High School at Sturtevant with the Class of 1953 and St. Mary Hospital School of Radiology at Wausau. He married Geraldine M. Piotrowski July 13, 1957, at Stevens Point, settling at Manitowoc after their marriage. He was employed at Holy Family Hospital the past 19 years, presently serving as chief radiology technician. BARBARA MILLER (d. 1912) Frank J. Miller received a telegram today that his aunt, Mrs. Joseph L. Miller had died at Manitowoc, aged 73. Deceased was a sister of the late Mrs. Joseph Miller of this city and mother of Frank C. Miller, former bookkeeper with the J. Miller Co. She was an old resident of Manitowoc. Frank J. BETTY B. (BARKLEY) MILLER (d. 2006) Betty B. Miller, age 80, of 1234 Westwood Lane, Manitowoc, died Monday morning, March 20, 2006, at her residence. She was born on Aug. 15, 1925, in West Milwaukee, daughter of the late Mathew and Florence (Hoffman) Barkley. Betty was a graduate of West Milwaukee High School, Class of 1942. She then attended Beloit College for one year and in 1945 received a Bachelor of Sociology Degree from UW - Madison. In May 1946 she married Karl Miller in Milwaukee. The couple resided in Madison from 1946 to 1949, Eau Claire from 1949 to 1951 and Manitowoc from 1951 to present. In 1964 Betty received an Associates Degree in Library Science from Silver Lake College. Starting in 1966 she was a librarian at Lakeland College. Then in 1973 she was employed as a librarian at the Manitowoc Public Library until her retirement in 1987. Betty was a member of AAUW, American Association of University Women. She loved to play bridge and create beautiful needlepoint. Betty was also a great sports fan. During their retirements, Betty and Karl especially enjoyed their vacation trips to the Southwest each year for spring training. Survivors include her husband, Karl Miller, Manitowoc; two sons and a daughter-in- law: Mark Miller, a resident of Wisconsin and Arizona; Kurt and Kathryn Miller, Kohler; two grandchildren: Alison Johnson and her husband, Joe, Sheboygan Falls; Lauren Miller, at home and a great-granddaughter: Katelynn Johnson. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Barkley, and a brother-in-law, David. CATHERINE MARY BETH MILLER Catherine M. Miller, age 77, of 503 E. Magnolia Ave., Manitowoc, died Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 1995, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, Wis. She was born June 9, 1917, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Neumann Beth. She grew up and was educated in Two Rivers. Catherine lived most of her adult life in Manitowoc. She worked for 18 years at Imperial Eastman Company, retiring in 1978. Catherine loved knitting and crocheting. She was married to Herbert G. Miller, September 23, 1967, at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Catherine was a member of First Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Herbert; one son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Andrea Seidl, Tyrone, Ga.; one daughter, Cindi Seidl and her friend Barry Hemler, Gaithersburg, Md.; one step-son, Tim Miller and his friend Julie Hynek, Two Rivers; two grandchildren, Chad and Jeremy Johnson, both of Manitowoc. CHRIST MILLER (d. 1936) Chris (sic) Miller, 47, Dies On Tuesday Chris Miller, 47, of 712 Buffalo street, died yesterday of heart trouble. He had been ill for several days. Mr. Miller was born in South America in 1888. He was married to Rose Pouless in 1924. He worked here as a plumber. Mr. Miller was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and the Eagles Club Aeries No. 706. CLARA C. MILLER (d. 1975) Mrs. Reuben C. Miller, 80, of 1410 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, died Friday noon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Miller, nee Clara Carrie Regel, was born March 3, 1894, at Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late William and Mary Janesovski Regel. She moved to Manitowoc as a young girl. She was married to Reuben H. Miller, June 27, 1914. Mrs. Miller was also a member of the Royal League. Survivors include her husband, a son, Howard, of Manitowoc; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Heinricks, Mrs. George (Marilyn) Ploederl and Mrs. Richard (Edith) Morris, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Russo, of Chicago, Ill.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. CLARENCE C. MILLER (d. 1981) Clarence C. Miller, 97, formerly of 857 N. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday, February 24, at Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst, Ill. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Alfred Klumb will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Miller was born Jan. 6, 1884, at Monguna, Iowa, and married Ada Briggs Nov. 21, 1906, at Mission Valley, Iowa. The couple resided in Chicago from 1910 until 1918, when they moved to Manitowoc. He had been vice president of the Manitowoc Company and was an emeritus member of the Board of Directors of the Manitowoc Company. He was a former member of First Prebyterian Church, a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge No. 65 F and AM and a 50 year member of Manitowoc Chapter Royal Arch Masons No. 16. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Ray B. King of Elmhurst, Ill., and a granddaughter, Mrs. Linda M. Sasso of Lombard, Ill. His wife preceded him in death in 1971. DAVID MILLER (d. 1958) David Miller, 52, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, died late Friday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theophil F. Uetzmann will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He was born August 19, 1905 at Rhinewald, Russia, son of the late John Miller and Mrs. Lena Nicholai Miller Kraemer. He came to the United States when seven with his parents and settled at Sheboygan. Thirty-eight years ago he came to Manitowoc and was employed by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. until illness forced him to retire. EARL W. MILLER SR. (d. 1995) Earl W. Miller Sr., age 77 a resident of Battle Creek, Mich., died Wednesday, June 28, 1995, at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, 1995, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Richard Lind. He was born December 21, 1918, in Manitowoc, son of the late Alvin and Anna Mueller Miller. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School graduating with the class of 1937. He married the former Ruth Dawn Rollins in January of 1942. She preceded him in death March 6, 1995. Mr. Miller was employed by Engels Shipyard in Pascogoula, Miss. until serving in the United States Army on a landing ship machine in the Philippines. Mr. Miller was employed by the maintenance department of the Battle Creek Public Schools from 1949 until his retirement in 1982. While there he was known for helping to form Local #871 AFSCME and whistling while he worked. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and George Eckelberger Jr., East Tawas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. ELI MILLER (d. 1970) Eli Miller, 90, of ?043 N. 24th St., Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Marsch. Miller, 66, who formerly operated a grocery store in this city, died Friday in Racine, according to messages received here. Mr. Miller was born in Manitowoc. He operated a grocery store on Western avenue for a number of years. Later he disposed of the store and was employed by the Aluminum Specialty company. ERWIN L. MILLER (d. 1994) Erwin Lloyd (Sonny) Miller, age 69, of 1517 S. 26th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday, August 14, 1994, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Private Family Service of Comfort will be held at the Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, Thursday, August 18, 1994, with cremation having taken place and burial at Evergreen Cemetery. He was born September 9, 1924, in Manitowoc, son of the late Erwin and Evelyn Frosh Miller. He attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. He entered the Armed Forces during World War II in 1943. He was one of many who landed on Utah Beach on D Day. He married Leulla Selle, July 2, 1949, in Manitowoc. He was employed at Manitowoc Engineering Company for 45 years. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #706, Amvets Post #99 and Machinists Local #516. He is survived by his wife, Leulla, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Terry Krajnek, Branch; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Lois Miller, Manitowoc; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Elayne and Clarence Radke, Arvada, Colo., Joseph Malinauskas, Md.; three grandchildren, Phil, Rob and Kristin Krajnek, all of Branch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. FAY A. MILLER (d. 2003) Fay Miller, age 79, of Reedsville, died on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. She was born July 29, 1923 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Milton and Julia (Tisler) Greene. On June 16, 1945, she married Raymond Peter Miller at Manitowoc. Miller, age 69, formerly of 3904 Johnston Dr., Manitowoc, died Saturday evening July 10, 1993, at North Ridge Care Center, Manitowoc, following a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Glenn Unke officiating. She was born October 13, 1923 in the Township of Manitowoc, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Edna Schultz Miller. She grew up and was educated in the Township of Manitowoc living on the home farm until 1989 when she moved to Manitowoc. She helped her parents on the home farm and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. She is a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Manitowoc Garden Club. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Catherine Miller Manitowoc; two nephews, Timothy Miller and his friend Julie Hynek, Two River, Wis. FRANK A. MILLER (d. 1956) Frank A. Miller, Former Malting Executive, Dies (photo) Messages received Monday advised of the death in Beverly Hills, Calif., Sunday of Frank A. Miller, 94, former vice president and general manager of the Rahr Malting Co. and one of the leaders in the movement that led to the city system of schools in Manitowoc. Prior to his retirement from the Rahr firm in 1939 he founded the Miller Malting Co. in Los Angeles, which he headed. On leaving the Rahr company he moved west to Los Angeles. Since disposing of the malting firm in the west several years ago he became interested in other projects in the west, which were successful. The past three years he had lived in retirement. The body will be entomed at Los Angeles until a later date and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery here, with funeral arrangements being handled by the Pfeffer Funeral Home. Mr. Miller, was born in the town of Two Rivers in 1861 and his parents moved to Manitwooc in 1870. On completing high school here he was employed by the Wagner Hardware Co. and later with the O. Torrison Co. In 1885 he recived a government appointment to take charge of an accounting job in Minnesota and while there married Miss Ida J. Bleser. Conducted School A year later he was offered complete charge of the accounting department of a Racine shoe factory, employing 700 workers. Evenings he conducted a commercial school. Returning to Manitowoc in 1891, he became office manager of the Wm. Rahr Sons Co. and saw the company expand and in 1918 on reorganizatin of the company into the Cereal Products Co. he became general manager. In 1932 the firm name was changed to the Rahr Malting Co. He became a well known authority on malting and compiled numerous pamphlets and booklets on the subject. In 1933 he was named vice president and a director of the United States Malsters Assn., composed of leading malsters all over the nation. Mr. Miller, returning here from Racine, which had a central school system, became an active worker in the move to consolidate the four school districts in the city into one central system. Twice the movement failed at the polls. The third time the consolidation carried. At the time he was a member of the board of the North side district and received the highest number of votes when citizens chose the first Board of Education in Manitowoc. He was named the first president of the board. He served ten years on the board before retiring. Founded Own Company While still connected with the Rahr Malting Co. he founded the Miller Malting Co. in Los Angeles, with his son, the late Earl F. Miller, as general manager. A plant was erected, first of its kind in southern California. In 1939, Mr. Miller resigned his affiliations with the Rahr Malting Co. Later he and Mrs. Miller moved west to locate in Beverly Hills. Following the death of his son he disposed of the Miller Malting Co. He then engaged in real estate. Mrs. Miller died in California a few years ago and is buried in Manitowoc. Only immediate survivor is a daughter, Agnes, wife of the late Carl Ruenzel and now married to Stephen Chase. They reside in Beverly Hills. HENRY MILLER SR (d. 1944) Henry Miller Sr., 74, 214 N. Sixth street, died Wednesday afternoon at his home after a lingering illness. He was employed at the Evergreen cemetery for 13 years and has lived a retired life for the past seven. Mr. Miller was born in Russia in 1870, and was married in that country 50 years ago to Margaret Laube. In 1913 they came to America and to Wisconsin, living at Wausau for two years, and then locating in this city. Preceding his employment at Evergreen he worked for the Bahr construction company. Survivors are the wife, two daughters, Mrs. Alex Wagner and Mrs. Irwin Nennig, both of Sheboygan, four sons, John, Sheboygan, Pvt. Henry Jr., stationed at Camp Claiborne, La., Pvt. Andrew of Indianton Gap, Pa., and Alex, serving with the armed forces overseas, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. HERBERT G. MILLER Herbert G. Miller, age 73, of 503 E. Magnolia Ave., Manitowoc, died early Wednesday, December 27, 2000, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2000, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. David Scherbarth will officiate at the service, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. He was born January 23, 1927, in rural Manitowoc, son of the late Fardinand (sic) and Edna Schultz Miller. He attended country school in rural Manitowoc. He was first married to Helen M. Carrier in 1957. In the late 1960's he married the former Catherine (Beth) Seidl. She preceded him in death February 14, 1995. On October 5, 1996, he was married to Ruth (Boettcher) Mehlhorn at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Hebert worked on the family farm for a number of years before becoming employed at Eck Foundry in Manitowoc in the early 1960's. He retired from Eck Foundry in 1989. Herb was Union Steward while at Eck and was also a former member of the Two Rivers Eagles Club. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed polka dancing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one son, Tim Miller, Two Rivers and fiancée, Julie Hynek; one step son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Andrea Seidl, Tyrone, Ga.; one step daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Seidl Hemler and her husband, Barry, Gaithersburg, Md.; 12 step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, brothers- in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Miller, former vice-president and general manager of the Rahr Malting company in this city. She has been in failing health in recent years. The body is to be brought to Manitowoc from the west coast and will be acompanied by Mr. Miller and his daughter, Mrs. Carl Ruenzel, who now lives in Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church at a date to be announced later. Mrs. Miller, the former Ida Bleser, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Bleser, was born in Manitowoc in 1867 and in 1885 was married to Frank A. Miller at Detroit City, Minn. They made this city their home, and Mr. Miller was identified with the Rahr Malting company for many years, joining that company in 1891 and continuing in an executive capacity until retiring in 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Miller observed their golden wedding anniversay in this city in 1935. Shortly after Mr. Miller's retirement from the Rahr company he moved to Los Angeles to found a malting company. She was born March 14, 1912, in the town of Brazeau, Wis., daughter of the late Prymsel and Fannie Houska Kunick. She married Charles Senkbeill. He preceded her in death in 1951. She married John J. Miller. He preceded her in death in 1974. Ida was employed with the Aluminum specialty for many years until her retirement due to illness. JANE MILLER Mrs. Rebecca Miller, 77, Dies in Iowa, Burial To Be Here Tuesday Mrs. Rebecca Miller, widow of Oliver Miller, who resided here for two years, but left last May to visit with a daughter at Green, Iowa, passed away there on Thursday. The remains have been brought to Manitowoc and will be buried from the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. C. Kuehne, 861 North Ninth street on Tuesday afternoon at 2 and 2:30 o'clock from the Wesley M.E. church, with interment at Evergreen. The maiden name of the deceased was Rebecca Hall and she was born in Iowa in 1864. She was married to Oliver Miller in 1886 and they resided on a farm in Iowa until 1917 when they removed to Nebraska. In 1927 they came to this city to reside with their daughter, Mrs. Kuehne. JOHN B. MILLER (d. 1907) WAS EARLY DAY NEWSPAPER MAN John B. Miller Dead, in Chicago, Owned Tribune in This City. John B. Miller associated with the early newspaper history of Manitowoc as one of the editors of the Manitowoc Tribune which was among the first enterprises of the county, died at Chicago on Sunday and the body will arrive here Wednesday for burial. The body is expected to arrive on the noon train and the funeral cortege will form at the depot and go direct to Evergreen cemetery where the remains will be consigned to his last resting place in the family lot. Mr. Miller was about 68 years of age, is survived by a widow, an adopted daughter, a sister- in-law, Mrs. Minnie Smith, Miss May Smith, a niece, and Ira Smith, a nephew, all of this city. A brother and sister, Henry Miller and Mrs. Emily Olsen, both of Chicago, also mourn his death. The decedent will be remembered by the old settlers of the city and county, especially through his connection with the early newspaper history of Manitowoc county. He, together with Edward Borcherdt, assumed the ownership of the Tribune by purchasing the same from Fred Borcherdt at the time the latter became consul to Leghorn Ithly?, the two conducting the business for several years when Mr. Miller disposed of his interest to his partner and then moved to Chicago. John B. Miller was born in Copenhagen Denmark, coming to this country in his youth, locating at Memphis Tenn., where he was married. For several years after he left Manitowoc he was associated in business with Gray Clark Engel company, a binder twine manufacturing company, Chicago, removing to River Forest, Ill., and later to Oak Park last fall, where the demise occurred from Bright’s disease. At the time of the family’s removal to Oak Park it was the intention of Mr. and Mrs. Miller to come to this city but they could not find a suitable residence. The deceased was a man very much respected in this city and one who made many friends by his upright and just conduct both in business and family life. Never having been blessed with children, the couple took into their home an adopted daughter, Miss Sophia Jensen who has made her home with the couple since her childhood and who will be among the mourners at the funeral. JOHN P. MILLER (d. 1959) John P. Miller, 77, veteran Manitowoc barber, died at 5 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a short illness. He resided at 848 N. Sixth St., Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. D. L. Krembs will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He was born July 12, 1882, at Chilton, son of the late Adam and Mary Durbin Miller. At the age of 13, he began to learn the barber trade while working for an older brother. He came to Manitowoc and in 1903 formed a partnership with a brother, Joseph, in the old Williams House. When the building was demolished the brother established their shop at Eighth and Franklin streets. John had been a barber for 63 years before illness caused him to retire. He married Emelia Nyhagen Dec. 28, 1905, at Manitowoc. He was a member of Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church and Master Barbers Assn. JONATHAN MILLER (d. 1958) Jonathan J. Miller (above), formerly of 1617 Marshall St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday afternoon at Fairhills Convalescent Home, Rosecrans. He had been invalided 18 months ago after a fall at home. Mr. Miller was 97. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Gervase J. Zanotti officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Miller was born in Milwaukee County Sept. 19, 1861, son of the late John and Rosina Jordi Miller. In 1886, he married Achsa Kloss at Fish Creek, Wis., where the couple resided for a short time before moving to the State of Minnesota. He was engaged in cement block and mason contracting until the couple came to Manitowoc in 1917. He was employed as a foreman in the plate shop of Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., until his retirement in 1931. Mrs. Miller died in 1944 and since then he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. E. P. Dicke. She survives along with another daughter, Mrs. William P. Bennett of Ephrata, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. H. G. JOSEPH L. MILLER (d. 1910) Death of Veteran Joseph L. Miller, aged seventy-five years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Krahn Tuesday morning after an illness of three months. Mr. Miller came here with his wife from their home in Manitowoc about three months ago. He was born at Schonberg, Austria in 1835 and came to America with his parents in 1844. The family made Milwaukee their home six months, moving to Racine where they lived two years and then to Nashotah where they resided eighteen years and then to Manitowoc, where Mr. Miller spent the remainder of his life until he came to Kaukauna. In 1861 he married Miss Barbara Bauer and on March 8, 1864 he enlisted in the Union Army. He was a charter member of H.M. Walker Post No. 18 G.A.R. which had charge of his funeral this afternoon at his old home where he will be interred with the honors of the order. His wife survives, also the following children, F.A. and Dr. J.V. Miller of Manitowc; Mrs. Frank Krahn, Milwaukee and Mrs. C.J. Robley of Milwaukee. The funeral services took place this morning at 11:30 o'clock from his daughter's home at the corner of Main Avenue and Fourth Street, Rev. Samuel MacNeil of Congregational Church, officiating. MILLER, Proprietor Miller House, Manitowoc, was born Nov. 23, 1834 in Austria. He emigrated to America and located in Wisconsin in 1853. Engaged in farming until 1858; he then moved to Manitowoc County. Followed farming for about five years, then moved to Neshota, working in a saw-mill until 1873, when he came to Manitowoc, and opened this hotel. In 1860, he married Miss B. Bauer, of Kossuth, Manitowoc County. They have had six children, four of whom are still living, two sons and two daughters. ******** History of Manitowoc County Wisconsin" by Dr. L. Miller, deceased, who will be well remembered by the traveling public as the proprietor of the Miller Hotel, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, of which he was the owner for eighteen years, was born in Carlsbad, Austria, and came from that country to the United States in 1853, locating first in Milwaukee. In that city he was employed as timekeeper for a railroad, and he later went in the same capacity to Racine and then to Two Rivers, where he continued until 1872. In that year he came to Manitowoc and engaged in the hotel business, continuing therein until 1890, when he retired. During the Civil war he was a member of a Wisconsin infantry regiment. Mr. Miller married Barbara Bauer, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, whence she had come with her parents from Germany, when she was five years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Miller had a family of six children.


JOSEPH V. MILLER (d. 1949) Retired Dentist, Dr. J. V. Miller, Is Dead Here at 83. Dr. J.V. Miller, 83, who, when he retired in 1938, was the oldest practicing dentist in Manitowoc county, died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Koutnik, of 1415 Michigan avenue. Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple with interment in Evergreen cemetery. Dr. Miller joined the order at Kaukauna in 1892. Dr. Miller was born in this city in 1865 and was graduated from the dental school of Ohio university 58 years ago. He opened a dental practice at Kaukauna in 1891 and in 1893 married Miss Olga Seeger of this city. After four years at Kaukauna he located here to open a practice with Doctors Charles and Ernst Seeger under the name of Seeger Bros. and Miller. Later he opened his own office when he was joined by Dr. G. W. Blaesser, who came here from Cedarburg. He retired 11 years ago. In 1942 Dr. Miller was honored at a testimonial dinner by the Masons, and presented with a 50-year membership certificate. Mr. and Mrs. Miller observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1943. Mrs. Miller died two and a half years ago. Dr. Miller was a charter member of the Rotary club, serving as the club treasurer continuously until illness forced him to give up active participation in club affairs. He had a perfect attendance record at meetings for 27 years. He was also a charter member of the County Dental society. Dr. Miller was for years a member of the city park board and was active in that board when it negotiated the purchase of Lincoln park at the North outskirts of the city. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. E. J. Koutnik of this city and Mrs. Chalmers Seymour; brother, Frank A. Miller of Los Angeles; twin sisters, Mrs. Frank Krahn of Kaukauna and Mrs. Frank Post of Milwaukee; and three grand children. LAURA MILLER (d. 2007) Laura M. Miller, age 43, of 1301 S. 31st St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning, March 19, 2007, at her residence, after a long battle with Wegners disease. Laura was born Sept. 28, 1963, in Milwaukee, daughter of Aurora (Sanchez) Miller and the late Christian Miller. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1982. In 1983, Laura attended the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc, and graduated in 1985 from the Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She worked as a paralegal in New York for 15 years before moving back to Manitowoc in 2002. Survivors include her mother, Aurora Miller, Manitowoc; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and Marilyn Miller, Two Rivers; David and Lori Miller, Sarasota, Fla.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Randall Frisch, Manitowoc. Also surviving are an aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Austin C. Frisch. LOUISA MILLER (d. 1936) WOMAN DIES AFTER STROKE Mrs. Ferdinand Miller Passes Away At Homestead Farm Mrs. Ferdinand Miller Sr., 70, a lifelong resident of the town of Manitowoc, died early today at the homestead farm near Sogge's Corners. Death was due to a stroke which Mrs. Miller suffered two weeks ago. Blocked highways made funeral arrangements uncertain. Burial will probably take place Monday. Announcement will be made tomorrow of the time of the services. Born in Township The deceased whose maiden name was Louisa Zarn, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Zarn, early pioneers of the county, was born in the town of Manitowoc in 1865. On June 11, 1891 she married Ferdinand Miller and they located on the old Huebner farm, Route 2, Manitowoc. They continued operation of the farm for many years. A son, Ferdinand Jr., is now in charge of the farm. MARGARET C. MILLER (d. 1961) Mrs. Marguerite (sic) C. Miller, 86, former Manitowoc resident who had been residing with a daughter at 715 N. 14th St., Sheboygan, died shortly after 8 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Evangelical Congreg- ational Church at Sheboygan. The Rev. John H. Baris will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. She was born Sept. 12, 1875, in Stahl, Russia, daughter of the late August and Gertrude Schmidt Ludwig. She was married Nov. 21, 1898, to Henry Schmidt(sic) at Dingl, Russia, and came to Wausau in 1913. Two years later the couple moved to Manitowoc where Mr. Schmidt was employed as caretaker at Evergreen cemetery. He died in 1944 and a year later Mrs. Schmidt moved to Sheboygan to live with a daughter. She was a member of the 16th Street Brotherhood. Survivors include three sons, John and Henry of Sheboygan and Alex of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Alex Wagner and Mrs. Erwin Nennig of Sheboygan; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. MARIE E. MILLER DEATH COMES TO MISS MILLER AT ALBUQUERQUE Many friends were shocked last evening by a message from Albuquerque, N.M., announcing the death there of Miss Marie Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller, of this city, who had been there, with her mother, for three months in hopes of recuperating her health. Miss Miller's death was due to pneumonia. She had suffered from throat trouble for some time and her weakened condition was unable to withstand the fatal attack. F.A. Miller, who returned here after accompanying Mrs. Miller and his daughter to New Mexico, was ??? moved to Albuequerque several days ago by a message of the critical illness of Miss Miller and was with her when she passed away. Mrs. Miller is completely overcome by the death of her daughter and will be unable to accompany the remains here for burial. The body will arrive Sunday evening and funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart church Monday morning. The death of Miss Miller will be deplored. She was a lovable girl, accomplished and talented and a social favorite. Born in this city February 24, 1894, she was twenty-seven years of age when death took her. Miss Miller attended the local schools graduating from the old North Side high and later attended St. Mary's at Notre Dame. She was a graduate of Northwestern University school of oratory at Evanston and was an accomplished musician. MARTIN E. MILLER (d. 1945) Martin Miller Sr., 63, a caretaker at the Evergreen cemetery for many years, died at his home, 1841 Michigan avenue, Sunday noon after a two weeks’ illness. Mr. Miller was born in Forestville, Door county, on Sept, 11, 1881. His marriage to Pauline Moehr took place on Feb. 20, 1934. He leaves his widow, one son, Martin Jr., a brother, Ferdinand, and a sister, Miss Albertine Miller, both of Forestville. The body will lie in state this evening at Pfeffer’s, and will be taken to the First Reformed church at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning. At 2 p.m. services, in charge of the Rev. A. C. MARY MILLER (d. 1938) Mary Miller, 80, pioneer resident of Manitowoc, died Wednesday noon at the home of a son, R.W. Miller, in Chicago. The body will be sent here and will arrive at 3 p.m. Friday. MILAN J. MILLER Milan J. Miller, age 75, of 2311 Division St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly on Monday morning, Jan. 5, 2009, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. He was born on July 24, 1933, in Sheboygan, son of the late Norbert and Katherine (Stein) Miller. Milan was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to Manitowoc, Milan played semi-pro football for the Manitowoc Chiefs. On Sept. 3, 1960, he married the former Bernice Granger at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Milan was employed for 45 years with Chermake Sausage Company of Manitowoc, retiring in 1996. After his retirement, Milan was also employed as a security guard with the Mirro Aluminum and Burger Boat companies. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) MINNIE MILLER (d. 1965) Mrs. William L. Miller, 87, formerly of 2117 LaFollete Ave., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning at Park Lawn Home, Manitowoc, where she had resided the past year. The former Minnie Hardrath was born July 11, 1877, at Rockwood, daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha Rabenhorst Hardrath. She was married to William L. Miller, Nov. 21, 1905, and the couple farmed in the Town of Cato until 1918. They resided two years at Bonduel, Shawano County, and in 1920 moved to Reedsville where Mr. Miller was engaged in the farm implement and filling station businesses. They moved to Manitowoc in 1944. Mr. Miller died in 1949. OLIVER MILLER (d. 1929) OLIVER MILLER DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER Oliver Miller, aged 72 years, who for the past two years, with his wife, has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. R. C. Kuehne, 861 North Ninth street, passed away last evening, after a lingering illness. The deceased underwent an operation some months ago and has failed gradually the past few weeks. Monday afternoon at two o’clock from the Kuehne home, with burial at Evergreen. The body may be viewed at the Shimek and Schwartz parlors up to Sunday noon, after which they will be removed to the Kuehne home. For nearly his entire life the deceased has been a resident of Iowa. He was born in that state in 1856 and in 1875 was married to Jane Hall, who survives him, with three sons, Ozro Chappelle, Neb., Oswald and Joseph of Weeping Water, Neb., and two daughters, Mrs. C. H. Eikenberry of Marble Rock, Ia., and Mrs. Kuehne of this city. One brother, Alex of Winner, S.D. and two sisters, Mrs. S. OSWALD MILLER (d. 1954) Oswald Miller, 65, former Manitowoc resident, died Wednesday at a Veterans’ hospital in Louisville, Neb. RAYMOND MILLER Miller Dies in Amsterdam Raymond P. Miller, 50, of Reedsville, who was identified with the farm equipment business all of his adult life, died unexpectedly at Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Sunday morning. He and his wife, the former Fay Green, of Manitowoc, were in Europe to visit farm equipment factories. They were also visiting their son, Michael, a lieutenant in the Air Force. Mrs. Miller was expecting to return here by airplane Monday afternoon and the body was expected to arrive from Amsterdam Tuesday, according to Atty. Victor A. Miller of St. Nazianz, a brother. Funeral arrangements are indefinite at this time, Attorney Miller said. Ray P. Miller was associated with the John Miller Supply Co. of St. Nazianz, as tractor sales manager. He had planned to attend the Smithfield Farm Show in London, the largest European show of its kind. Miller was also an auctioneer and real estate broker, and had operated the John Miller Equipment Co. at Reedsville until the business there was destroyed by a fire several years ago. In recent years he spent most of his time in farm machinery sales in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. The late Mr. Miller was a grandson of the first John Miller who started the business in 1898 at St. Nazianz. Among survivors are his wife, mother, four children and two brothers. Mr. Miller was born April 19, 1919, at St. Nazianz, son of Mrs. Frances Hornick Miller and the late John Miller. He married Fay Green June 16, 1945, at Manitowoc. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a past Grand Knight, past president and past zone chairman of the Lions Club and a member of the Elks Lodge No. 687. Mr. Miller was also a member of the National Auctioneers Assn. He was past chairman of "Community Action" of Manitowoc County, served as a deputy sheriff, was a real estate broker and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He had been associated with the John Miller Supply Co. of St. Nazianz. Survivors include two sons, two daughters, his mother, Mrs. Francis Miller, of St. Nazianz, and two brothers, Atty. ROY LYLE MILLER (d. 2004) Roy L. Miller, age 67, of 1407 Michigan Ave., Manitowoc, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. Roy was born April 25, 1937 in Elmhurst, Ill., son of the late Roy and Mattie Wells Miller. He was a 1955 graduate of Glen Ellyn High School. Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Oct. 4, 1955 and was discharged on Oct. 3, 1958. On Dec. 27, 1958, Roy was married to the former Susan Copeland at St. Mark Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn, Ill. The couple moved to Manitowoc in 1966 and Roy worked for AMF Paragon Electric Co. Inc. in Two Rivers as a tool and die maker, he later moved to the engineering department. Roy also for a short time owned and operated Manitowoc Tool & Die & Engineering during the 1970s after which he returned to Paragon retiring in 1999. In 1972, Roy and Sue became actively involved in Heart-A-Rama and for more than 25 years they were well known for their involvement with the "Heart Dogs." Roy was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, a volunteer driver for the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department and a volunteer for Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. Survivors include his wife: Susan Miller of Manitowoc; his five children: Penny (Todd) Gauger of Walworth; Michael Miller of River Falls; Bradford Miller of Prescott, Ariz.; Christopher (Sandy) Miller of Jupiter, Fla.; Todd (Kari) Miller of Janesville; and eight grandchildren also survive. RUTH D. MILLER (d. 1995) Ruth D. Miller, age 75, of Battle Creek, Mich., died Monday, March 6, 1995, at her home. She was born July 5, 1919, in Two Rivers, Wis, daughter of the late Albert Rollins and Emma Flegle Rollins. She and her three sisters were raised by their grandparents, George and Anna Flegle. She graduated from Washington High School in 1937 where she was voted all around girl for that year. She graduated from Kellogg Community College as a licensed practical nurse in 1966. She married Earl W. Miller Sr. on January 25, 1942. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in 1995. She was employed by Leila Hospital for 11 years. She enjoyed playing Sheepshead and Bridge card games, garage sales and antiques. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek, Mich., for many years. Survivors include her husband, Earl; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Lee and George Eckelbecker, East Tawas, Mich.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. RUTH H. MILLER (d. 1946) Mrs. Ruth Miller, 51 (photo), former Mishicot resident, died Thursday at San Fernando, Calif. Mrs. Miller, the former Ruth Rick, went to California last December. She was born in Mishicot and in 1921 was married to Robert Miller. The latter died 23 years ago. She was a graduate of the high school here, the Stout Institute and the University of Minnesota. She majored in science and art and taught economics for two years at the government school, Alburquerque, N.M., and four years in St. Paul public schools. She did occupational therapy for two yeaers at a St. Paul hospital and taught arts and crafts for five years in day and evening classes of the Manitowoc and Two Rivers vocational schools. Mrs. Miller's latest employment was instruction of homebound persons in arts and handicraft in the county. Survivors are a son, Robert, in Los Angeles and a sister, Miss Elsie Rick, of Mishicot. SOPHIA MILLER Mrs. Eli Miller, 80, of 1041 N. 18th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Miller, nee Sophia Hartmann, was born Sept. 24, 1887, at Verden Aller, Germany, daughter of the late Fred and Anne Falk Hartmann. She migrated to the Untied States in 1906 and was married to Eli Miller in June, 1907, at Reedsville. They farmed in the Town of Cato until 1915 when they moved to Manitowoc. The couple celebrated its 61st wedding anniversary in June. Mrs. Miller was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church Ladies’ Aid Society. SUSAN MILLER (d. 1980) Susan C. "Sue" Miller, age 70, of 1513 Torrison Drive, Manitowoc, died on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center, Green Bay. Sue was born on April 6, 1938, in Glen Elyn, Ill., daughter of the late Ronald and Josephine (Bishop) Copeland. She married Roy L. Miller, on Dec. 27, 1958, in Illinois. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 2004. Susan was a member of First Lutheran Church, and a volunteer at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Sue had a knack for finding and displaying whimsical antiques, which simply added to the serene environment in her home - one which harkened of a bygone era. She and her husband, Roy, loved Golden Retrievers and owned many during their lifetime. Sue took great joy and pride in her children and grandchildren. Whether she was sewing Halloween costumes, watching her children participate in athletic events, sitting on the floor playing paper dolls with her granddaughters, or swimming at the lake with her grandsons, she did it with her whole heart. Sue was easy to talk to and was a wonderful storyteller - bringing the past alive as she relayed memories of old in great detail. Her zest for life and happy-go-lucky optimism will be sorely missed. VESS R. MILLER Vess R. Miller, 42, retired Army captain and former Manitowoc resident, died unexpectedly early Monday morning at Stevens Point. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church, Granton, with burial at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The Otto Oas Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will provide military rites at graveside. Mr. Miller was born Aug. 6, 1917, at Beulah, N.D. He joined the Civilian Con- servation Corps in North Dakota and served with the U.S. Army from 1934 to 1937. Following discharge, he was employed by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., and Brooklyn Navy Yard, N.Y. In 1943, he re-entered the Army and served until retirement. He was a sergeant major at the time he left the Army but retired as a captain, the rank which he held until 1954. He married Vlasta Cherney July 20, 1940, at Pascagoula, Miss. She is a native of Manitowoc. Surviving are his wife, a son, an adopted daughter (Private); parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. VLASTA MILLER Vlasta A. (Val) Miller, age 92, a Manitowoc resident, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc. Val was born April 12, 1912 at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Hoslar) Cherny. She grew up in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School. For a time she was employed with the Wisconsin Telephone Company. On July 20, 1940, she married Capt. Vess R. Miller in Pascagoula, Miss. Vess preceded her in death April 4, 1960. Val enjoyed crafts, sewing, bowling, playing bingo, duplicate bridge and Las Vegas. Survivors include a daughter, Carol J. (Howard E.) Young, Manitowoc; a son, Patrick D. (Sarah J.) WILLIAM L. MILLER (d. 1949) William L. Miller, 74 (above) of 2117 LaFollette avenue, retired farmer, threshing crew operator and oil man, died late Saturday afternoon, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mittnacht-Kollath funeral home and at 2 o’clock at the St. John Evangelical church, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Miller was born in Cato in 1875 and operated a farm in the town until 1918. He also was in charge of threshing crews in Cato and vicinity for about 30 years. He operated a farm near Bonduel, Wis., from 1918 to 1920 and located in Reedsville where he engaged in the farm implement sales business and also operated a filling station for the Standard Oil company. These enterprises were taken over by his son, Leonard, in 1944 and Mr. and Mrs. Miller retired, moving to this city. He was a member of the St. John Evangelical church. In 1900 he married Miss Augusta Ebert. She died in 1904. He later married Minnie Hardrath. She survives with a son, Leonard, of Reedsville; five daughters, Mrs. Anton Sobieck, Mrs. William Schroeder and Miss Louise Miller of this city, Mrs. Rev. Barth of Green Bay and Mrs. Elmer Schanke of Newton; brother, Eli of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Dahlquist of Greenleaf, Mrs. Charles Miller of Denmark and Mrs. Henry Erickson of this city; 13 grandchildren and a great- grandchild. WINFORD ROGER "WINDY" MILLER (d. 2005) Winford R. 'Windy" Miller, age 87, of Manitowoc, died Friday evening, Sept. 16, 2005 at Hannah Home, Manitowoc. Windy was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Green Bay, son of the late Orville and Susie Oshwaldt Miller. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1936. Windy served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as an instructor and inspector of B-29s both stateside and overseas in Guam. On Oct. 17, 1944, he married the former Shirley Barker in Pratt, Kan. She preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 2004. Windy was an assistant manager at S.S. Kresge in Flint and Jackson, Mich. The couple then moved back to Manitowoc where he obtained employment at Manitowoc Engineering Company in the parts department, retiring in 1980. Windy played semi-pro football and was an original member of the Manitowoc Galloping Gaels. He was inducted into the Manitowoc Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997. ANNA MILMAN (d. 1934) 96-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIES Mrs. Milman Headed Family of Five Generations Mrs. Harmon William Milman, 96, who for the past two years made her home with her grandson, A. W. Milman, 512 St. Clair street, died Sunday. The deceased headed a family of five generations. Funeral services will be held from the Sacred Heart church at 9 a.m. Wednesday with interment in Evergreen cemetery. The deceased was born in Germany, August 1, 1837 and came to this country with her parents when a girl of five. They located first at Milwaukee and then moved to Racine. ANNA MILMAN (d. 1957) Mrs. Anna Milman, 94, former Manitowoc resident who had been making her home with her daughter in Highland Park, Ill., for the past three years, died at a hospital there Saturday morning after a brief illness. MINNIE MILMAN Mrs. A. W. Milman, 78, of Reed Avenue, Manitowoc, died early Sunday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a short illness. WILLIAM MILMAN WM. P. MILMAN LAKE ENGINEER, DIES IN CITY William Peter Milman, 67, widely known marine engineer, passed away at the home, 1111 Huron street, last night. Had he lived until Sunday he would have reached his sixty-eighth year. He retired from engineering several years ago and has made this city his home for ten years. He is the father of Mrs. I.W. Whitaker and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Milman, of Racine, who is more than 93 years old. Funeral servicers will be held Monday morning at 9, at the Sacred Heart church, the Rev. Father Becker officiating, and burial will take place at Evergreen. Mr. Milman had been engaged in sailing the great lakes and the Atlantic for many years, but for the last seven years has been employed at the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company in the city. A number of years ago he sailed a pleasure yacht down the Mississippi, to St. Johns and Florida. He is well-known on the Great Lakes. He was an only child and beside his mother and wife, who was Anna Thompson before their marriage on ???????? 24, ????, is survived by a son, William, of Hartford, a daughter, Mrs. I.W. IRENE M. MILSKE Mrs. Roman C. Milski(sic), of 524 North Fourth street, lifelong resident of Manitowoc, died this morning, following an illness of several months. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mittnacht-Kollath funeral home, the Rev. F.C. St. Clair of the St. James Episcopal church officiating. Commitment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Milski, nee Irene DeLano, was born here in 1882, daughter of W.W. DeLano and the late Barbara Alan DeLano. She attended the public schools here and on August 22, 1907, was married to Mr. Milski, who operates a florist and decorating business here. Survivors are the husband; her father, W.W. DeLano of this city; a son, James, of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Stewart Barnett and Mrs. Joseph Peroutka of this city; three sisters, Mrs. William Ohde and Mrs. Fred Dunbar of this city and Mrs. Earl Peterson of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, M.R. ROMAN C. MILSKE Roman C. Milske, 82, of 1329 S. 10th St., Manitowoc, died early Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. He had been in failing health for six months. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Mittnacht Funeral Home and at 11 am at St. James Episcopal Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. William R. Harvey officiating, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Milske was born Oct. 12, 1883 in Germany, son of the late Felix and Marie Milske. He came to the U.S. with his family at the age of ten and attended Manitowoc Public Schools. He married Irene DeLano in 1907. She died in 1949. He operated a greenhouse at 524 N. Fourth St., Manitowoc, for 46 years. Mr. Milske also worked as a decorator for the Schuette Bros., and the O.Torrison Co. He was well known throughout northeastern Wisconsin for his decorating of parade and centennial floats. He planned and installed the first Christmas decorations for the City of Manitowoc. Mr. Milske continued in the decorating field until his retirement in 1950. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Carroll of Manitowoc and Mrs. Lucille Barnett, of Manitowoc; a son, James B. of Appleton; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Geerdts Sr., of Manitowoc; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. ASHLEY VERN MILTON Ashley V. Milton, age 91, of 433 N. 10th St., Manitowoc, died Saturday, January 9, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Janaury 14, 1999, at the Phipps Memorial Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. William Plank, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Ashley was born April 4, 1907, in Fox Lake, Wis., son of the late Frank and Grace Hatcher Milton. He attended schools in Pardeeville, Wis. He married the former Pearl Kerr on October 30, 1934. She preceded him in death in 1987. For 57 years, Ashley was a barber and retired in 1985. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was also a past Deacon. Ashley was a member of the Manitowoc Lodge #65, Free and Accepted Masons where he also served as Worshipful Master; Manitowoc Chapter #16 Royal Arch Masons serving as High Priest; Manitowoc council #18 Royal and Select Masters serving as Thrice Illustrious Master; Manitowoc Commandery #45 Knights Templar serving as Eminent Commander; Wisconsin Priory #16 Knights of the York Cross of Honour; Two Rivers Shrine Club where he was a past president; Tripoli Temple, Milwaukee; Kiwanis Club Manitowoc; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; past member of the Manitowoc Chapter #196 Order of the Eastern Star. PEARL MILTON Mrs. Pearl A. Milton, 86, formerly of 433 N. 10th St., Manitowoc, died Friday evening, December 11, 1987 at North Ridge Care Center, Manitowoc. Mrs. Milton was born April 16, 1901 at Lancaster, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Samuel and Nettie Kilby Kerr. She attended schools in Lancaster and later graduated from the University of Platteville. Mrs. Milton later taught First Grade at Rice Lake and Waupun, Wisconsin. She was married to Ashley Milton, October 30, 1934. The couple resided here in Manitowoc. GERALD E. MIRSBERGER Gerald E. Mirsberger, 42, of 2113 Fairmont St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Schneider and Purath Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. A brother, the Rev. Richard Mirsberger and the Revs. Leo J. Schmitt and Richard Verhasselt will concelebrate the funeral Mass and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Mirsberger was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Sheboygan, son of Alfred Mirsberger and the late Violia Roedee Mirsberger. He was graduated from North High School, Sheboygan, and received his bachelor of science degree and masters degree in business education at Whitewater State University. He taught high school in Rib Lake, Wis. for two years and also at Manitowoc Vocational School. Since 1967, he had been associate professor in the business and management division of University of Wisconsin Extension Division. He married Nancy Hierseman in Sheboygan. Mr. Mirsberger was a member of Holy Innocents Parish, where he was the parish council president. He was also a member of Manitowoc Rotary Club, past president of Society of Advancement of Management and a member of many other business and professional groups. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, two sons, Steven and Michael and a daughter, Victoria at home; his father of Sheboygan and three brothers, Donald of Sheboygan, Ralph of Milwaukee and the Rev. Richard of Milwaukee. His mother and a sister, Jean, preceded him in death.
