RYAN CHRISTOPHER BROEHM GREENVILLE, WI. - Ryan C. Broehm age 24, of N1620 Topaz Court, Greenville, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 the result of a cabin fire while hunting in Iron County. Ryan was born July 17, 1982 in Augusta, GA son of Rev. Dennis and Barbara Huebner Broehm. Rev. Dennis Broehm was the former pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinez, GA from 1979-1995. In 1996 he accepted a call as pastor of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Manitowoc, WI. Ryan was a great companion and friend, a buddy. His ability to empathize with the feelings of others and bring comfort to anyone was a gift not many of us are as fortunate to possess. Ryan attended the Aldersgate Pre-School, South Columbia Elementary School, Lakeside Middle School all in Georgia and was a 2001 graduate of Manitowoc Lutheran High School in Wisconsin. Ryan worked with passion as a student engineer both in and out of the classroom. His abilities in all aspects, especially math and physics were to reach fulfillment in his graduation, December 2006. Thus, leading him closer to achieving his goal of becoming a registered land surveyor. The past two summers he worked for the City of Appleton Dept. of Public Works in the Engineering Dept. He was a member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church of Appleton. Ryan's love of sports especially, baseball and football was life long. Ryan also possessed a deep love for the outdoors and whether it was catching perch in his home state of Georgia, casting for that elusive musky, calling to the flights of geese, or pursuing bucks in the fall; he took great pride in his endless preparation and accomplishments. In recent years Ryan had become an excellent archer and his love for the sport was evident in and out of the woods. Ryan was well equipped with his great skill, and his desire to continuously learn every time he set foot in the woods - pursuing the dream of a trophy. He was involved in this passionate quest when the Lord graciously called him home. Ryan was dearly loved by his family and friends, but loved even more by his Lord Jesus. From the day of his baptism, the gift of God's grace was his precious possession and Ryan occupied a place in God's family. This week Ryan achieved his greatest accomplishment, his greatest victory was won, and the glory of eternal life is now his forever. Ryan will be deeply missed. It was an honor for us to have known him and to have had him share in our lives. Our buddy is departed but never gone. We look forward to being re-united with him when the victory of eternal life in Jesus becomes our own. Until then let us comfort each other in knowing that God will give us the strength and peace to celebrate Ryan's life and honor his gentle, caring, and compassionate spirit. Let us never forget, he is with us always+ and the best is yet to come!!! Survivors include his parents: Rev. Dennis(Barbara) Broehm of Greenville; one brother: Benjamin 'Jamie' Broehm of Green Bay and his special friend: Sarah Stanz; paternal grandparents: Clifford(Letha) Broehm of Appleton; three aunts and two uncles: Marilyn Anklam of Manitowoc; Sharon(Bill) Huss of Greenville; Mark(Jody) Broehm of Appleton; eight cousins: Julie (Theran) Welsh of Madison and their children: Jackson, Taylor and Lauren; Jean(Dan) Slaby of Manitowoc and their children: Amber and Jennifer; Carrie Anklam of West Bend; Christian Anklam of Manitowoc; Jenny(Adam) Bruss of Greenville; Brian Huss of Greenville; Jenna and Caitlin Broehm of Appleton; other relatives and many friends survive. HENRY BROEKER HENRY BROEKER RUN DOWN BY CAR, KILLED STRUCK BY AUTOMOBILE ON HIGHWAY 17 NEAR PAULY FARM, LOCAL MAN INSTANTLY MEETS DEATH Driver of Car Was Gordon Bently Who Did Not See Broeker On Roadway Because of the Storm Henry Broeker, 53, was almost instantly killed Saturday night shortly before 9 o'clock when he was struck down by an automobile on Highway 17 near the Pauly farm. The car, a seven passenger Paige, was driven by Gordon Bentley(sic) and was occupied by the Bentley family, including Bentley's father and mother, his twin brother and four other children of the family. Bentley stopped within a few feet after the accident, picked up Broeker and brought him to the hospital but the man was dead when the hospital was reached. An inquest was called this morning at 8:30 and the jury, George Clark, Louis Geisler, John Rhode, Walter J. Golding, Hugo C. Wellhoefer and Joseph Weber, viewed the body at the Pfeffer chapel. Coroner Kemper set the hearing for Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Returning From Two Rivers The Bentley family had owned the car for only a short time and Gordon it is said was a new driver. The family was returning from a trip to Two Rivers and according to the report to the authorities, was traveling along at a very moderate rate of speed, from eighteen to twenty miles an hour. They had turned west on the Pauly farm and passed the private road to the Pauly home when the machine struck Broeker who was enroute to his home. Bentley stopped the machine and a man was found on the concrete about ten feet to the rear of the car, which apparently had gone over the man without the wheels striking him. He was picked up, placed in the tonnean of the car and rushed to the city, a stop being made at 712 Buffalo street to let out members of the family at the home. The father made an appeal for assistance at the barber shop and Gordon Pittsley drove the car to the hospital when it was found young Bentley was so unstrung he could not drive. Arrived at the hospital Pittsley found the injured man was dead and the coroner was called and district attorney notified. The body was removed to the Pfeffer undertaking parlors. Was Returning From Work Broeker had been down to a piece of land which he was given permission, to use to open some ditches. The piece had been sown to flax during the afternoon and Broeker was afraid the rain might do some damage as the land was low. He had completed his tasks there and had regained the highway to return to his home, just north of the Pauly place, when he was run down. Bentley said he did not see Broeker until too late, in fact did not see hime until he struck him, because of the storm. Broeker was struck inside of the right fender, and the impact smashed the headlight. The shovel, which he carried denting the radiator. The body dropped to the pavement and the head was badly bruised about the right temple by contact with the roadway. No bones were broken and death was probably due to concussion of the brain. There were many bruises on the arms and legs. Fifty-Three Years of Age Mr. Broeker was born here August 6, 1872 and was fifty-three years old. He was married about twenty-seven years ago to Sophie Holtz and for the last fifteen years had made his home on a farm on the Two Rivers road near the spot where he met his death. Surviving are the widow and three children. Mrs. Hertig, Linda and Walter, all at home. His mother, Mrs. John Broeker, a sister, Mrs. Henry Ladwig and a brother Fred also survive. Miss Linda is to be married to Elwin Buss of this city on June 30, a license for the event having been issued. Funeral Tomorrow The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon with services at the German Evang- elical Lutheran church at 3 o'clock, the Rev. Karl Machmiller officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Manitowoc Herald News, Monday, June 14, 1926 p.2

FRED BROSE, LOUISE BROSE, MARTHA BROSE 3 LOCAL PEOPLE KILLED IN CRASH AT PT. WASHINGTON FRED BORSE; WIFE AND DAUGHTER, MEET DEATH AS THEY START VACATION TRIP Machine Demolished When Interurban Hits and Carries It 125 Feet- Auto Stalls on Track Is Theory. Three Killed Instantly A tripe tradedy which claimed the lives of three members of one Manitowoc family resulted from a crash of an interuban car of the Milwaukee Northern and an automobile at the crossing sourth of Port Washington early Sunday morning, the three victims having been killed instantly when the automobile was completely demolished as it was carried 125 feet by the street car. The dead: Fred Brose, 61. Mrs. Martha (sic) E. Brose, 61, his wife. Miss Martha Brose, 25, daughter. Miss Brose, who was driving the car, the rear seat of which was occupied by her paretns, was hurled from the machine and her mangled body, with skull fractured, a broken leg and internal injuries, was found fifty feet from the right of way, while the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Brose were taken from the wreckage, the two clasped in each others arms, both dead. Local Man Identifies Dead The machine in which the Brose party was driving had been owned by Walter Brose of Chicago, a son of Mr. Brose, and had been purchased by his sister Martha only recently and the fact that it bore an Illinois license made identifation questionable until John Mueller of this city, who with Bud Nohlachek were passengers on the interuban, recoginezed Mr. Brose, the identification being made complete by a grip in the wreckage bearing Mr. Brose's name. (snip) En Route on Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Brose and their daughter left here Sunday morning at 6:30 en route to Milwaukee where they planned to meet Walter Brose, their son, who was to drive them to Chicago from which city they planned to leave today for Walcott, New York, to visit with Mrs. Brose's sister, Mrs. Emma Nichols. Just how the tragedy happened is not clear but it is believed that Miss Brose, driver of the car, had stopped for the crossing tracks just at the south entrance of Port Washington, but had failed to put the car out of gear and when the street car approached she became excited and released the clutch of the automobile and it shot into the path of the on rushing interurban and was struck squarely by the electric car. (snip) Son Reaches Scene Walter Brose, Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brose who with his wife arrived at Milwaukee early Sunday, received news of the tragedy there and proceeded immediately to Port Washington to join his uncle Mr. Schlei to take charge of the bodies and later accompanied Mr. Schlei here. Mr. Brose is completely overcome by the tragedy which robs him of every member of his own family, leaving him sole survivor. Family Well Known The Brose family had resided here for many years and is among the best known of the city. Mr. Brose, a native of Germany, born January 1, 1866 and 61 at his last birthday and came to Manitowoc as a child and for forty-seven years had been employed with the Schuette Bros. company, starting as chore boy in the sotre, later serving as delivery boy and for many years a trusted clerk. He was popular and hundreds of customers of the big stored called for "Fred" when they wanted service. Mr. Brose was married to Louise Schlei in 1890. Mrs. Brose also coming here in childhood from Germany where she was born August 19, 1866. Two children were born to the couple, Martha, the daughter who met death with her parents and one son Walter who is located at Chicago, an employee of the Chicago and North Shore Railway Co., having formerly been with the North Western line on the local division. Miss Brose was 25, having been born here July 29, 1902. She attended the Lutheran school, later graduating from the high school and attending normal school. For two years she had been a teacher in latin at the Gladstone, Mich., schools and had been elected to return there next year. Besides the one son Walter, Mr. Brose is survived by his step-mother, Mrs. Rose Brose, and a stepbrother, Henry, both of this city, while Mrs. Brose leaves three brothers, Rev. William Schlei, of Collins, Charles and Robert, this city and one sister, Mrs. Emma Nichels of Walcott, New York. City is Shocked News of the tragedy which reached the city a short time after the accident, spread rapidly and shocked the community. Mr. Brose had been given a two weeks vacation leave by the Schuette Bros. Company and had been planning for weeks for the reunion with his sister whom he had not visited in a long time. Owing to the heavy traffic between Milwaukee and Chicago, Mr. Brose had asked his son Walter to meet the party at Milwaukee and drive the car to Chicago and from that city it had been planned to go to Walcott by train. Mr. Brose was held in high esteem in the city and by his employers, Paul Schuette head of the Schuette Company today paying high tribute to the character and integrity of Mr. Brose who he said was one of the most faithful and efficient of the Schuette Bros. Co., force. Mr. Schuette and fellow employees of Mr. Brose were greatly affected by the tragedy. Mr. and Mrs. Brose were members of the German Evangelical Lutheran church and had been active in church affairs and much interested in the congregation. Funeral services for the three victims of the terrible tragedy will be conducted by the Rev. Karl Machmiller of this city, assisted by the Rev. Kirchner, of Stanmaugh, Mich., a nephew of Mr. Brose. Manitowoc Herald News, Monday, July 18, 1927 P.1 (insert) Vehicle Which He Always Feared Brought Him Death Rather peculiar in connection with the tragedy at Port Washington yesterday in which Fred Brose, his wife and daughter met death, is the fact that Mr. Brose had always had an aversion to the automobile and for years had opposed purchase of a machine in his family. When the delivery system of the Schuette Bros. Co. years ago was changed from wagon to auto Mr. Brose decided that he did not care to be connected with it and at that time accepted a transfer to the store. Where Mr. Brose had a natural antipathy to the auto, a wholesome fear of its operation or some other reason for his attitude, the tragedy yesterday established it as well founded and a strange prank of Fate. ******** FUNERAL FOR THREE HELD AT ONE SERVICE One of the saddest scenes the city has witnessed at the German Evangelical church this afternoon when services were held for burial of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brose and their daughter, Martha, who lost their lives in an auto accident at Port Washington Sunday. The church was unable to accommodate those desiring to pay a last tribute and the cortege to Evergreen where burial was held was a long one. The Schuette Bros. Co., store, where Mr. Brose had been employed for nearly a half century, closed at noon in respect and employes attended almost as one. The bodies arrived last evening and this morning hundreds visited the church where the bodies were in state. A wealth of flowers attested the high regard for the dead.
