EVERGREEN CEMETERY OBITUARIES [ BI ]

AUGUSTE FLORENTINE BIBINGER From Der Nord Westen, 17 Jan. 1895: Death on Sat., 12 Jan., of Mrs. Auguste Florentine Bibinger (nee Teitgen) in the residence of her brother, Mr. Emil Teitgen. The deceased was born 02 Dec. 1853, the sister of the late August Teitgen in Newton. She married Mr. John Bibinger in 1873, a marriage blessed with 2 children. Since then Mr. Bibinger suffered a nervous condition that required his placement in the mental facility. The deceased entered her last rest on Tuesday. [From cemetery office: We double checked the marker. It does have 12/2/1854 - 1/12/1894. However, I double checked the original burial register from that time, and Mrs. John Bibinger was buried 1/12/1895. The marker saying 1894 is on the space with the burial from 1895. So, I believe the marker has the wrong year on it. The burial lists her age as 42 and that she was born in the town of Newton.] ********* [Mrs. John Bibinger/bur. 01-12-1895/age 42 yrs./cause: spinal & mental disease] (Auguste Florentine Bibinger)

Julius Block, a well-known resident of Manitowoc, died of old age debility Friday evening in the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Otto. Mr. Block was born 20 February 1825 in Mecklenburg-Schwerin. After leaving school he learned hand-tailoring and in 1853 came to America, arriving in Buffalo, New York, on 02 November. He remained there 6 months and then traveled on to Chicago. He did not stay there very long either and in 1855 traveled once again this time to Manitowoc where he remained. For many years he operated a tailor shop here until old age made it impossible, at which time he opened a candy store which he operated until his death. Since the death of his wife in October 1907, he has been living with his daughter, the above named Mrs. Otto. During his years in our city Mr. Block maintained an interest in local affairs and his fellow citizens provided him with many positions of trust. During his 60 years he was often elected to the office of Alderman for the 3rd Ward and for many years occupied the office of village marshal, and served as auxiliary sheriff during several administrations. He was very active in the establishment of the volunteer fire company and served many years as a member of the hook and ladder company… His large funeral was held Monday afternoon. Mrs. Block was born Marie Sophie Schultz on 26 May 1818 in Stavenhagen, Mecklenburg- Schwerin, therefore she reached the age of 89 years 4 months and 29 days. In 1846 she married her now surviving husband, Julius C. Block, with whom she came to America in 1853. The family stayed there until 1854, and then in 1855 the family moved to Manitowoc where the deceased has lived for 52 years. Her husband operated a tailoring business until age made that profession impossible and then established a sweet shop. In recent years the deceased grew weaker and weaker and then caught a terrible chill several weeks ago which her weakened body could not fend off, resulting in death. In addition to her elderly husband she is survived by a son Philipp A. Block in La Crosse, a daughter here - Mrs. R.A. Otto, as well as a host of friends she made over the years.
