Agnes was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Her belief was that of living a simple life by enjoying and delighting in beautiful sunsets, the birds that frequented her feeders, flowers, and all of nature’s offerings. This was all in keeping with her deep faith in God. She liked gardening, sewing, baking, traveling, and above all, reading. All of this was surpassed only by her great love of children and she won their hearts wherever she went. Death beckoned her with outstretched hand And whispered softly of “An Unknown Land” But she was not afraid to go For though the path she did not know She took Death’s Hand without a fear For He who safely brought her here Had told her He would lead the way Into Eternity’s Bright Day… And so she did not go alone Into the “Valley That’s Unknown” She gently took Death By The Hand And journed to “The Promised Land”… And there, with step so light and gay She polishes the sun by day And lights the stars that shine at night And keeps the moonbeams silvery bright… For Mothers really never die. They just “Keep House Up In The Sky”… And in the Heavenly Home Above They wait to “welcome” those they love. Helen Steiner Rice Mother, Grandma, Great grandma, we will always you dearly and miss you very, very much. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Madison Hospice for all their support and loving care. Herald Times Reporter, December 16, 1999 P. A2

MICHAEL J. AUERMILLER DEATH OF M.J. AUERMILLER IS GREAT SHOCK Well Known Young Business Man of City Is Summoned MINOR OPERATION IS FOLLOWED BY DEATH That in life we are in the midst of death was brought home to Manitowoc again last night with emphasis when news spread of the death of Michael J. Auermiller, well known young businessman of the city who passed away at the hospital after ? day’s serious illness. Although it has been reported during the day that M. Auermiller was in serious condition the news of his death was a shock to friends. Mr. Auermiller died at 10 o’clock last evening. Mr. Auermiller entered the hospital Sunday evening for a minor operation which was expected to remove a source of trouble from which he had suffered for several years. He was operated Monday morning and his condition was thought to be excellent until early Tuesday morning when his heart became affected and his condition became rapidly worse and the end came at 10:15. His wife and mother were with him when the end came. M.J. Auermiller, familiarly known as “Mike” by a circle of friends limited only to acquaintance which was wide, was born in this city 37 years ago on June 16, 1882 and had made his home here practically all his life. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Auermiller, Franklin street, the aged parents surviving him. For several years Mr. Auermiller was associated with U.S. Marshal S.W. Randolph in the transfer business at the docks in loading and unloading boats and when the war interfered with the business on the lakes, Mr. Auermiller took over the café conducted by his father at 13th and Franklin street, establishing a restaurant in connection with the business and had continued it up to the time of his death. The Randolph & Auermiller Co. retained its organization when the lakes service again warranted it. Although he had been a sufferer for some time from ailment at no time was his condition serious and the operation to which he submitted was considered a minor one, but the complications developing caused death. Few men of the city were better known than “Mike” Auermiller and none numbered a larger following of friends. Of kindly disposition, gentle temperament, generous to a fault he made and held friends and was loyal to the. A peculiar thing in the connection with the death of Mr. Auermiller is that it was just a year ago this month that William Wedergarten, his bosom friend while a resident here, died at Sheboygan. Mr. Wedergarten’s death occurring very suddenly. Mr. Auermiller is survived by his widow, nee Louise Pratt, whom he married fourteen years ago, by his aged parents, four brothers, John of Detroit, William and Edward who are with the colors and expected home any day and George of Green Bay and one sister, Anna, of Green Bay. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made pending word from Mr. Auermiller’s brother who may be able to be here, but it is probable that the service will be held from St. Boniface church Saturday morning.
