PEARL P. STOCKINGER Pearl Stockinger, 71, of 3702 Schroeder Drive, Manitowoc, died Thursday, April 16, 1987 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Ronald Reimer with entombment in Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Mrs. Stockinger, nee Pearl P. Theyerl, was born November 19, 1915 at Chilton, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Mathew and Rose Rott Theyerl. She married Rudolph Stockinger on November 19, 1938 at Manitowoc. Mrs. Stockinger was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church Parish Women Society, Manitowoc Garden Club, American Iris Society and charter member of the Botanical Society. Mrs. Stockinger was active in the guidance program for Manitowoc Girl Scouts. Survivors include her husband, Rudolph of Manitowoc; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Karyl Stockinger of Sturgeon Bay, Robert and Sandra Stockinger of Little Rock, Arkansas, William Stockinger of Florida and James Stockinger of Rossville, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Richard Kowalski of Reading, Pennsylvania; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Josie Theyerl of Francis Creek; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and John Pekarsky of Manitowoc and seven grandchildren. RUDOLPH STOCKINGER (d. 1988) Rudolph R. Stockinger, a resident of Shady Lane Home, passed away December 6, 1988. FREDERICK W. STOKER Frederick (Fritz) Stoker, age 84, formerly of Francis Creek, died Tuesday evening, November 8, 1994, at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 1994, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Rev. Theodore Hendricks will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment at Calvary Mausoleum. He was born January 28, 1910, at Glenflora, Wis., son of the late Frederick and Catherine Ledvina Stoker. He was married on November 11, 1935, to Pearl Flanagan at Henry, S.D. They lived at Francis Creek since 1942. He was employed at the Kohler Company, Mirro Corporation, Manitowoc Shipbuilding and Hamman Construction Company, until retiring in 1975. Fred was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Club and The Sea Gulls. He played, coached and talked baseball for many years in the Manitowoc County League. He was involved with the Manitowoc County Youth baseball since it was organized. He was an active sportsman. Survivors include his wife, Pearl, Manitowoc; two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Wells, Centralia, Missouri, Donna and Gerald Krueger, Manitowoc; one son, Joseph Stoker and his friend, Sharon Holzschuh, Francis Creek; special friend, Barbara Stoker, Francis Creek; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. HARRIET J. STROTHER Harriet J. Strother, age 85, a resident of St. Mary’s Home for the Aged, Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 2002 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at the Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Fr. Tom Wojciechowski, O.F.M., with entombment to follow. Harriet was born May 9, 1917 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Casimer and Michalina (Molly) Taraskizwcz. She was a graduate of Washington High School, Two Rivers. HARRY C. STROTHER Harry C. Strother, 68, Oswego, New York, died Saturday, May 3, at Oswego. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, in New York. A Committal Service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, May 10, at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Mr. Strother was born November 14, 1917 at Johnston, South Carolina, son of Bessie and the late Harry Strother. Mr. Strother was a 32 year veteran of the United States Coast Guard, retiring as chief warrant officer. He was employed as a Civil Engineer at the State University in Oswego, New York, for the past ten years. LEONARD STRZYEWSKI Leonard “Woody” Strzyewski, age 76, of 921 S. 25th St., Manitowoc, died Friday, January, 1997, at the family residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 6, 1997, at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Deacon Robert Drobka will officiate with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Leonard was born May 12, 1920, in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Mary Kihanski Strzyewski. He attended Manitowoc Schools. He was very active with baseball and softball for many years in Manitowoc and also neighboring communities. Woody had been employed locally for Mirro Aluminum, self employed, owning and operating Woody’s Bar and in more recent years he was a security guard for Manitowoc Company. He married Helen Zmeskal August 28, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He was a long time member and board of director of the Manitowoc Sea Gull Club, member of the Manitowoc County Old Timers Baseball and Sheboygan Old Timers Baseball Clubs, Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sportfisherman’s Club, formerly a member of the Manitowoc County Board Highway Committees, past Secretary of the Manitowoc City Travern (sic) League and also representatives for District #6 for State of Wisconsin Tavern League. On May 17, 1947, she married Marvin Strzyzewski in Manitowoc. MARVIN L. STRZYZEWSKI Marvin L. Strzyzewski, age 87, a resident of Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc. He was born on Jan. 11, 1924, in Manitowoc, son of the late Mike and Josephine (Pekulik) Strzyzewski. Marvin was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving from 1942 to 1946. On May 17, 1947, he married the former Margaret Meany in Manitowoc, She preceded him in death on June 25, 2009. Marvin was a plant operator at Manitowoc Public Utilities until his retirement. He enjoyed camping and going on vacations with Margaret. Marvin also enjoyed traveling to casinos, playing cards and bingo. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi. NORBERT M. STRZYZEWSKI Norbert M. Strzyzewski, age 83, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc. He was born on November 4, 1930 in Manitowoc, son of the late Michael & Josephine (Pekulik) Strzyzewski. Norbert was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1949. He then entered the United States Marine Corps. receiving the purple heart while stationed in Korea. On May 1, 1954 he married the former Lois Leist at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Norbert was employed as a water plant operator with Manitowoc Public Utilities, retiring at the age of 60. He enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, swimming at the YMCA and was a master griller. Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Lois Strzyzewski, Manitowoc; five children and their spouses: Joseph Strzyzewski, Denver, CO, Ann (Rick) Mach, Sioux City, IA, Carol (Dave) Degen, Kansasville, WI, Thomas Strzyzewski, Brothertown, WI, Barbara (Jay) Bessey, Greenfield, WI; five grandchildren: Sarah (Byron) Smith, Chad Mach, Laurel Bessey, Taylor Bessey, Trista Bessey; two great grandchildren: Keegan & Cameron Smith; two sisters-in-law: Rosella Krueger, Manitowoc, Lucille Lallensack, Newton; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Eugene (Rosemary) Leist, Oregon. ELIZABETH SUFFERN (d. 1906) LONG JOURNEY ENDS Mrs. Elizabeth Sufferan Had Reached Age of 90 Years Ninety years marked the span of the long life of Mrs. Elizabeth Sufferan, whose death occurred Saturday at the St. Mary's hospital after an illness of some time from general breaking down of the system due to ravages of age. Mrs. Sufferan, who had been a resident of Manitowoc for more than a half a century, had been cared for at St. Mary's for some time past. Her husband died twenty-six years ago in this city and three children, two sons and a daughter, survive, being James Jr., Mary Williams, Milwaukee and Edward of Colorado. The funeral was held from the hospital this morning. Mr. Sullivan was associated with the late H. Bolens in business and left here in 1879 to locate In North Dakota where he remained until about twenty years ago when he returned here to spend his declining years. Mr. Sullivan is survived by six sons, Edward of New Salem, N. D., Thomas of New London, Henry of Juneau, Walter of Long Lake, George of Iron Mountain, Mich., T.L. Sullivan of Oshkosh. Three sisters also survive, being Mrs. Margaret .Finnegan and Mrs. Thomas Gray of Chicago, and Sister Aloysius of Ohio, formerly of this city. DONALD J. SURFUS Donald J. Surfus, age 91, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon October 1, 2004 at the home. Donald was born on Aug. 15, 1913 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late Louis and Mary Fax Surfus. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1931. On June 12, 1938 he married the former Ruby M. Wainright at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1978. He then married Eunice (Cookie) Weir on Aug. 4, 1979 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1992. Don served as Vice President and Secretary of Formrite Tube Company of Two Rivers until his retirement in 1979. Don was a past member of the Manitowoc Kiwanis Club and the Manitowoc Elks Club. Survivors include his children: Judy A. DeWeerdt, Brookfield; Marilyn Neuser, Wash.; Rozanne E. JOHN F. SURFUS John F. Surfus, age 87, of 929 S. 31st St., Manitowoc, died Saturday morning, July 1, 1995, at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 1995, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. John married the former Frances Phair on June 21, 1938, at Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in 1985. Mr. Surfus was employed with Kaufman Manufacturing Company for 20 years until he moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1949, where he continued his employment with both Peterson and Christy Shipbuilding, both of Sturgeon Bay. John then worked as a Naval Inspector for the United States Government at Marinette Shipbuilding, Marinette. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #710 of Manitowoc, a charter member of the Manitowoc Elks Lodge #687 and was a charter member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Surfus, Manitowoc; two brothers, Donald and Mark Surfus; four sisters, Gertrude Lax, Miss Margaret Surfus, Ruth Smith, Miss Marian Surfus, all of Manitowoc; two granddaughters, Shelley and Rachel Surfus, both of Eau Claire; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Surfus, Wausau; a sister-in-law, Lilah Surfus, Manitowoc. At the age of 14, Margaret began working part-time at Mirro Aluminum Co. She was a charter graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, with the first graduating class of 1924 and was also the recipient of the Palmer Method of penmanship. Upon graduation she began full-time employment with the company for 25 years in the catalogue department. In 1952, Margaret continued her education receiving her nurse’s aide degree from the Manitowoc Vocational School. She was then employed with Holy Family Hospital until her retirement. Survivors include two brothers: Donald Surfus and Mark Surfus; a sister: Ruth Smith, all of Manitowoc; and a special and devoted friend for many years, Zebina Shaw of Algoma. CAROL M. SWETLIK Carol Mae Swetlik, age 62, of 1118 N. 12th St., Manitowoc entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, with her family by her side. Carol was born June 25, 1942, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Victor J. and Dolores Osesek Ceaglske. She was a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, attending St. Mary's Parochial School and Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1960. She was married to Richard W. Swetlik on June 30, 1962, by the Rev. Msgr. John Landowski at St. Mary's Catholic Church, celebrating 40 years of marriage in 2002. She had received her broker's license in 1970 and was a member of the Manitowoc County Board of Realtors and the State and National Association of Realtors. In 1984, she was a graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI). She was self-employed with her husband since 1968, operating Dick Swetlik Builders. Carol was a member of Holy Innocents Parish since 1964 and charter member of the Capitol Civic Centre and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc. She dearly loved her children and devoted her life to their immediate care. Love of God, family and home were her priorities. Survivors include her loving husband, Dick; precious children: son, Steven P. Swetlik, Milwaukee, daughter, Deana L. Swetlik, Denver, Colo., son Andrew R.
