
JACK V. ACKERMAN Jack V. Ackerman, 57, of 4102 Lowell St., Two Rivers, a Two Rivers Washington High School instructor in biology, died unexpectedly early Monday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emanuel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Ackerman was born Sept 4, 1915, at Kaukauna, son of the late Frank V. and Edith Post Ackerman. When he was two the family brought him to Madison where he attended public grade school and was graduated from Madison East High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught for five years at Mishicot High School, at Menasha High School for one year, Mantiowoc County Teachers College for 22 years and was in his third year at the Two Rivers school. He married Elizabeth Johnson June 13, 1942, at Wisconsin Rapids. He was a member of Manitowoc Lodge No. 22, F. & A.M., and Manitowoc Chapter No. 196, Order of Eastern Star, of which he was a past worthy patron. He was also a member of American Federation of Teachers and the Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Zeta and Sigma Tau Delta fraternities. MELVIN ALLEN Melvin S. (Swampy) Allen, 62, of 2400 Wilson St., Two Rivers, retired marine engineer on Great Lakes freighters and a member of one of the community's earliest families, died Wednesday afternoon at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital. He has been in failing health for several months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Klein & Angel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, the Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Allen was born at Two Rivers Dec. 31, 1906, son of the late Edmund Allen and Mrs. Olga Behrendt Allen Goric. His grandfather, the late Andrew Allen, was the first keeper of Rawley (Twin River) Point Light Station, adjoining Point Beach State Forest. Mr. Allen was graduated from Two Rivers Washington High School in 1925 where he starred in all major sports. As a young man he worked on Great Lakes freighters and gained his engineer's license. An employe of the C. Reiss Coal Co. for a number of years, he was engineer on the firm's tugs at Green Bay and Manitowoc, retiring Jan. 1, 1969. He was a member of Green Bay Elks Lodge. He married at Green Bay July 10, 1934. She survives him along with his mother, Mrs. Olga Allen Goric, and his stepfather, Mike Goric, of Sheboygan; two sisters; a half-sister and a step-brother also survive. ROBERT B. ALLING Robert B. Alling, 63, of 1002 E. Crescent Dr., Manitowoc, died Friday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore Vinger will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Alling was born April 21, 1908, at New York City, son of the late Robert and Annie Smith Alling. He attended schools in New York and later attended Columbia University. Following his schooling he was a partner in a Wall Street firm for many years. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. He then was employed at the Trade Bank and Trust Co., New York, before coming to Manitowoc in 1954. He married Jean Lenz Feb. 25, 1950, at New York. Mr. Alling was employed as purchasing agent for the Manitowoc Equipment Works until 1959 when he formed the Alling Company Inc., of which he was president. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club of Manitowoc and Eagles Aerie No. 706. Survivors include his wife and a sister, Mrs. Jane Carlton Farrell, of Clearwater, Fla. VERNA M. ERNST-AMBRUSO Verna M. Ernst-Ambruso, age 74, of Two Rivers, died Wednesday morning, July 21, 1999, at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc. She attended St. John’s Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers, with the class of 1943. On October 13, 1945, she married Leonard Ernst at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1988. She then married Eugene Ambruso on April 21, 1995, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. Verna was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aide, the Two Rivers Historical Society, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of U.S. Sub Vets World War II, and a former member of the Sweet Adelines. WALLACE R. ANDERSON Wallace R. Anderson, 67, of 1745 Johnston Dr., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. LILY (MYERS) ARNEMAN Lily (Myers) Arneman, 89, of Two Rivers, died early Saturday morning, March 30, 1991, at the Two Rivers Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate. Burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. The former Lily Myers was born May 16, 1901, in Burrett Township, Ill., daughter of the late John and Caroline Last Myers. She graduated in 1918 from Mishicot High School and also attended the University of Wis.-Milwaukee, graduating with the Class of 1922. On June 27, 1928, she married Elmer Arneman at Two Rivers. He preceded her in death January 14, 1977. The couple farmed in the town of Two Rivers before moving to the city in 1951. Mrs. Arneman was a teacher in the rural schools from 1942-1954 and also a teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School from 1954 until her retirement in 1965. She was a member of the St. Johns Ladies Society, the Quilters and the Afternoon Social Group of St. Johns. CLIFFORD J. BEAUPRE Clifford Beaupre Sr., 53, of 3512 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon at University Hospital, Madison, where he had been a patient the past two weeks. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Mr. Beaupre was born Nov. 16, 1903, in the Town of Pound, Marinette County, son of the late Daniel and Louise Lesperance Beaupre. He came to Manitowoc County in 1920. Mr. Beaupre married the former Minnie Traurig Nov. 7, 1924, at Manitowoc. After working a number of years as a maintenance man in the city school system Mr. Beaupre and his son went into the building contracting business which they operated the past 10 years. CHARLES L. BEDUHN Charles L. Beduhn, age 76, formerly of Manitowoc, died Thursday, December 28, 2000, at River’s Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. He was educated in Two Rivers and graduated with the class of 1941 from Washington High School. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Charles served in the United States Navy in the Pacific. He married Eloise Arndt on March 20, 1948, in Manitowoc. Charles began his career at Hamilton Industries and served as a corporate officer in various wood manufacturing operations across the country until his retirement in 1990. EUGENE BLAHA Eugene Blaha, 62, of 1203 Victory St., Two Rivers, died Saturday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital where he had been taken a few hours earlier. He married Florence Wagner Aug. 21, 1935, at Waukegan, Ill. He was a member of the Paragon Goodfellowship Club. WILLIAM BLANCHARD William S. Blanchard Sr., 90, formerly of 910 N. 21st St., Manitowoc, presently of Park Lawn Nursing Home, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. He came to Wisconsin in 1903. He married Emma Nemetz Oct. 27, 1908, in the Town of Franklin, Kewaunee County, locating in Two Rivers until 1910, then coming to Manitowoc. He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., and Manitowoc Equipment Works, retiring when he was 73. Mrs. Blanchard preceded him in death in 1968. He was a member of the Royal League. JOSEPH V. BLANCHETTE Joseph V. Blanchette, age 75, a former Two Rivers resident, currently residing in Crivitz, died Thursday evening, Nov. 2, 2006, at the Woodland Health Care Center, in Brookfield. He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Marinette, a son of the late Victor and Sadie (Terriault) Blanchette, and attended school in Marinette. Joseph was a U.S. Veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. On July 25, 1963, he was married to Anna Marie Krueger, in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Oct. 17, 1985. Joseph was employed with Fisher Hamilton in Two Rivers, for 32 years, retiring in 1992. After retiring, he then moved to Crivitz, where he enjoyed the outdoors; fly fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the VFW Post 1248 of Two Rivers, and a former member of the Two Rivers Eagles Club. ETHEL A. BOHM Ethel A. Bohm, age 91, a resident of the Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers, died early Friday morning, November 5, 1999, at the home. Mrs. Bohm was born on March 17, 1908, in the town of Gillett, Wis., daughter of the late Charles and Clara Olson. She married John Bohm on June 6, 1926, in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1983. Ethel was a member of the Ladies Aide Society of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Two Rivers Senior Citizens. FERN G. BRUECHERT Fern G. Bruechert, age 87, of Two Rivers, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 30, 2005 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. David Scherbarth will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Fern was born April 12, 1918, in the town of Two Rivers, a daughter of the late Joseph and Sybil (Koller) Levy. She was educated in the Kewaunee School District, and was a graduate of Kewaunee High School. On Oct. 8, 1938, she married Harold Bruechert in Two Rivers, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1990. Following her marriage, Fern worked for the Hamilton family for a number of years, and also for Sauve’s Grocery Store. She later worked at Machut’s Supper Club for several years until her retirement. She was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, and in her spare time enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting and crocheting, and in her younger days enjoyed playing golf. AUGUST F. BUSSE August F. Busse, 81, of 412 St.Clair St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. N.W. Kock will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Busse was born Aug. 6, 1890, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late John and Sophia Horstman Busse. He married Elizabeth Streckert June 24, 1914, at Collins. He operated a cheese factory there for 13 years. He then came to Manitowoc where he was an engineer for Tsopels and Adracktis. He was a janitor at Lutheran High School for a few years. Survivors include his wife, four sons, Merl C., of Manitowoc, Clifford, of Orange, Calif., Delmar, in the Navy at Rhode Island and Robert, of Riverdale, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Myron (Rose) Cegielski, of Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Carbon was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Journeyman Machinist Local and also served as elder of First Presbyterian Church. NORMA CHRISTOFFEL Mrs. Luke Christoffel, 51, of 2814 Memorial Drive, Two Rivers, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in her sleep at the home at 5 a.m. Saturday. She had previously been in good health. ADOLPH C. EISENMANN Adolph (Nic) Eisenmann, 83, of Rt. 2, Mishicot, died unexpectedly early Friday morning at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Mr. Eisenmann was born June 14, 1887, at Harrold, S.D., a son of the late Fred and Julia Kannewurf Eisenmann. When he was 15, the family brought him to the Town of Mishicot where it became engaged in farming. He remained in farming in the Town of Mishicot until retiring in 1958. He married the former Alice Mueller at Two Rivers, Oct. 26, 1915. She preceded him in death in June of 1960. A longtime member of Zion church he was its trustee for 26 years. He was a past treasurer of the former Kettle Range District School Board and the Saxonburg District School Board. ERWIN K. FANTA Erwin K. Fanta, 76, of 2115 Cleveland Ave., Manitowoc, died Saturday morning at Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc. Private funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the family residence. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Fanta was born March 2, 1895, at Manitowoc son of the late Alois and Christine Krainik Fanta. He attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1916. He entered World War I in 1917 serving in France with the Second Division and received the Croix de Guerre. He was discharged in 1919. He married Mary Ann Engelson Nov. 11, 1926, at Milwaukee, and the couple returned to Manitowoc. He had been employed at Imperial Eastman as a purchasing agent for 25 years retiring in 1963. Mr. Fanta was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientists, served as past president of the Optimists Club was a 50 year member of the Manitowoc Chapter No. 16 and a member of the Manitowoc Council No. 18. He served as past commander of the Manitowoc Commandary No. 45, and was a member of the Scottish Rite (a 32nd degree Mason), and a member of the Tripoli Temple Shrine of Milwaukee. He was also a member of the Manitowoc and Two Rivers Shrine Club, the Manitowoc Elks Club, and served on the Manitowoc Utilities Commission for several years. RICHARD C. FRANZ, Sr. (sent in by researcher/see contributors page) Richard C. (Dick) Franz Sr., age 69, of 2704 S. 14th St., Manitowoc, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, Dec. 25, 2002 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 27, 1933 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Emil H. and Louise (Kiel) Franz. Dick married (his wife) at Rockwood Evangelical Lutheran Church on Oct. 8, 1955. The couple made their home in the Mishicot area for many years, moving to Manitowoc in 1995. Dick was educated at Shoto School District No. 4 of the town of Two Rivers, Mishicot High School, the University of Wisconsin Short Course, Manitowoc Teacher's College, Silver Lake College and was a graduate of UW-Oshkosh, with a degree in elementary education and a minor in art. He taught at the Shoto School and later Pleasant View School until consolidation closed the one-room schools. He then taught at the Central School in Mishicot for one year. Following this, he gave up teaching to go into business for himself, starting in the upholstery trade. Tendonitis forced him to give up upholstery and continue his business career in woodworking, retiring in 1995. Also during the years he was in business, he spent 17 years as a janitor at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot. He also drove buses for the Mishicot schools for several years. Devoting most of his life to conservation activities and efforts, Dick has done his part in making the earth a better place, planting trees and helping to preserve wildlife. In 1960, he purchased a run-down 100-acre farm where he remodeled the house, built a new barn, planted 72,500 trees and placed 40 acres under the old Forest Crop Law for 50 years. The rest of the land was used for Christmas trees, a pond for wildlife and fish and wildlife plants and cover. The Mishicot Sportsman's Club built pheasant pens for 600 birds on Dick's land and raised them for 10 years. He convinced more than 87 farmers to permit planting of the birds. It was during these same years that the club bought and developed what is now known as the Mishicot Sportsman's Park on Jambo Creek. Dick was involved in the development of the park and spent hundreds of unrecorded hours working on the club grounds and forest, as well as many hours with state, county and town officials to help with the growth of the club and the grounds. He promoted fund-raisers for the club to help in construction of the building on the grounds. He also designed the first bridge at Jambo Creek and assisted with the establishment of a wildlife pond with an island in the middle and a wood duck house on it in this area. Dick loved to cook at special events and some of the meetings. He made special grills from hot water heaters and cattle watering tanks to handle the large amounts of chicken and corn grilled. Dick became a lifetime member of the Mishicot Club around 1975. Dick was secretary of the Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Association during 1963-1964. Other sportsmen's clubs he was involved with over the years were Shoto Conservation Club, Westshore Sportsmen's Club, Larrabee Sportsmen's Club, Kelly Lake Sportsmen's Club, Klondike Sportsmen's Club and Pine River Sportsmen's Club. Dick was also a member of the Wisconsin Sportsmen, North American Hunting Club, National Rifle Association, Friends of the NRA Manitowoc County, Wisconsin Woodland Owner's Association, Manitowoc Fish and Game Protective Association and Conservation Education. He sold hunting and fishing licenses in the Mishicot area from his home for 10 years. Dick served on the Mishicot Village Board for one term and was village treasurer for one term. He belonged to the Mishicot and Francis Creek Lions clubs for a total of 20 years and also was a member of the Mishicot Fire Department for some years. Dick was involved in 4-H for about 16 years and was on the original planning committee for Camp TaPaWingo, spending many hours searching for land before the present site was chosen. Here is where he first tapped maple trees, learning to make syrup and learning that the tapping does not permanently injure the trees. Making maple syrup was a hobby he pursued for many years, using his property in Oconto County to tap his trees. He also deer hunted in the area, a sport that he loved. One of Dick's greatest memories was always the more than 366,000 trees he planted in his lifetime, in Manitowoc, Kewaunee, Oconto and Langlade counties. Most of the trees were planted in Manitowoc County through Wisconsin and the Manitowoc County Soil Conservation Service Office with the direction of Keith Henley, state forester during the 1960s. Due to ill health, most of Dick's efforts in recent years were limited to donations to worthy organizations, many of which are conservation or community related. Dick received a Special Achievement Award by the Manitowoc County Conservationists in 1997 and was enshrined into the Manitowoc County Conservationists Hall of Fame in 2002. JULIE FRASCH Mrs. Henry Frasch, 75, of 1117-25th St., Two Rivers, died early Sunday morning at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital, where she was taken two hours earlier. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Two Rivers, the Rev. Vernon Hauser officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mrs. Frasch, nee Julie Knutson, was born at Gills Rock, Door County, Oct. 10, 1895, a daughter of the late Theodore and Christina Jensen Knutson. She was married Feb. 20, 1913, to Henry Frasch at Marinette. The family moved to Two Rivers in 1921. She was an employe of the Hamilton Mfg. Co. for several years and later was engaged in catering at Two Rivers. She was a 40-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and was a past district president of the organization. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of the Eleven Gold Star Post 1248, Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Thimble Circle of Grace church, and the Wisconsin Federation of Weavers Guild. O'Brien with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. She was born June 13, 1915, in Cleveland, Wis., daughter of the late Paul and Anna Remick Jost. On April 19, 1936, she married Raymond Funk in Cleveland. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1989. Together the couple operated a farm in the town of Two Rivers for many years. Marie also worked for the Carron Net Company for many years and retired from the Metal Ware Corp. Marie enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and playing cards especially Sheepshead. She especially cherished her grandchildren, great grandkids and enjoyed family gatherings. Gauthier, who died Jan. 20 in Vietnam of injuries received Jan. 5 when he was aboard a helicopter which was shot down by enemy forces. The Rev. He was drafted into military serice in June, 1968, and after preliminary training was assigned to Vietnam in May, 1969, and was expected to complete his tour of foreign duty in April. CURTIS GEISSLER Curtis H. Geissler, 55, of Newton, died Wednesday evening at his resience following a coronary attack. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. They resided in the city until moving to Grimms 15 years ago and the past five years have resided at Newton where he operated Geissler Bar. RAY T. GRAINGER Ray T. Grainger, 59, Manitwoc, WI, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2002, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. Ray was born January 30, 1943, in Manitowoc, son of Kurth and Loraine Pilger Grainger. he attended local schools graduating grom Lincoln High School in 1961 and graduated from Silver Lake College. He served with U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam. He enlisted April 6, 1964, and was honorably discharged March 7, 1968. Ray worked for 27 years for the Manitowoc Public Schools as a custodial supervisor at Lincoln High School. He was married on March 21, 1986, at Manitowoc. Ray was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge of Green Bay and American Legion Drews-Bleser Post #88 of Manitowoc. He was a past commander of Post #88. Ray enjoyed golfing and camping. ARTHUR G. HAESE Arthur G. Haese, 52, of Herman Road, Manitowoc, died early Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been removed shortly before. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wesley Methodist Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. Donald T. Stannard officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Haese was born June 28, 1911, at Quarry, Manitowoc County, son of Louis Haese and the late Martha Fredrich Haese. The life-long county resident married Wonnie M. Murray at Manitowoc Dec. 8, 1943. He had been employed since 1945 by Lakeside Packing Co. and was a member of Shoto Conservation Club. BERNHARD C. HAGEN Bernhard C. (Barney) Hagen, 82, of Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening, February 14, 1990, at North Ridge Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Bruce W. Hanstedt will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. He was born August 25, 1907, in Decorah, Iowa, son of the late Carl and Ingeborg Blekeberg. He attended schools and graduated from the Decorah High School in 1927. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts. He married Dorothy Erickson, December 31, 1931, in Frankville, Iowa. The couple coming to Manitowoc where he taught Industrial Arts in the Manitowoc Junior Highs and Senior High School for 22 years. Mr. Hagen returned to receive his Masters Degree at the University of Iowa in 1937. In 1938 he was a Delegate to the Wisconsin Industrial Education Association Convention. By 1946 he was appointed by the Board of Education to head the Industrial Arts Department. In 1952 he was honored by the Wisconsin Manufacturers Association by being chosen to represent Industrial Teachers at the American Congress of Industry in New York. Following his 22 years of teaching, in 1957 while serving as Personnel Manager for the Manitowoc Equipment Works he was elected Chairman the Personnel and a Employment Managers Group an affiliate of Northeast Wisconsin Industrial Association. Mr. Hagen was Assistant Plant Superintendent of Manitowoc Equipment Works and retired in 1973. In 1960 a camping award was bestowed upon him in the form of a bronze statuette by the Waumegesako Council of Boys Scouts of America for outstanding contributions to the camping program and in 1963 the same council presented him with the Silver Beaver Award for his volunteer efforts in Scouting. Mr. Hagen received honors at the Rahr Conservation and was the former President of Wisconsin Industrial Arts Association and also in honors he received the Silver Beaver and Lamb Award in Scouting. He also received a Distinguised Service Award from the Manitowoc Lions Club and received the award for the Modern Woodmen of America Community Service. Mr. Hagen was a member and past President of the Isaac Walton League. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Scouting, Manitowoc Maritime Museum and was a member of First Lutheran Church. FRANK O. HALVERSON Frank O. Halverson, 64, of 941 S. 30th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient the past six weeks. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mittnacht Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Mr. Halverson was born Dec. 3, 1905, at Clarks Mills, son of the late Otto and Margaret Anhalt Halverson. He attended St. Mary Parochial school, Clarks Mills, and as a young man was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co. and during World War II at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. From 1945 until ill health forced him to retire in 1967, he had worked for the Spindler Co. He married Dorothy Nelson Dec. 12, 1926, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 706, Boilermakers Local 443, and Teamsters and Chauffeurs Local No. 619. Survivors include the wife; a daughter, three brothers, Edward and Ervin of Manitowoc and Ralph of Waukesha; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Mettler and Miss Helen of Milwaukee; and a granddaughter (Survivors edited for privacy.) CLAUDE B. HANES Claude B. Hanes, age 77, of Two Rivers, died Friday afternoon, May 24, 1996, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 1996, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. HAROLD E. HANSEN Harold E. Hansen, 67, of 1023 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc, died Saturday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a lingering illness. CAROLINE HARTLICH Mrs. Caroline Hartlich, age 76, of Two Rivers, died Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. Caroline was born Aug. 21, 1925 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Carl and Helen Reinke Fanslau. She grew up in Two Rivers and attended local schools. On Jan. 1, 1949 she was married to Carl Hartlich at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. Caroline worked for the Mirro Aluminum Co. until 1970. In 1970 the couple began managing the Vets Club in Two Rivers until 1976. In 1984, Carl and Caroline moved to Lakewood, Wis., returning to Two Rivers in 1993. On April 21, 1995 Carl preceded Caroline in death. Caroline was a member of the Salvation Army, VFW Post #1248 Auxiliary of Two Rivers, Two Rivers Senior Citizens and also played in the Kitchen Band at the Senior Center. Caroline was a very active volunteer for the Salvation Army including their annual bell ringing at Christmas. He resided in Manitowoc until 1965 when moving to Tomahawk. He worked for the Manitowoc Company until his retirement in 1996. On June 16, 1979 he was married to Patricia Beatty Scimemi at Manitowoc. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church of Manitowoc. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching the Green Bay Packers. WILLIAM O. HENRICKSON William Henrickson, 42, of S. 23rd Street, Milwaukee, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at his residence. Mr. Henrickson was born Feb. 26, 1929, at Two Rivers, son of Orville Henrickson and the late Anna Schaefer Henrickson. He attended St. Luke Catholic School, Two Rivers, and for a number of years was employed by the City of Manitowoc as a bridge tender. For the past three years he was employed as a truck driver for the M.J. Kortsch Moving and Storage Co., Milwaukee. He married the former Lorraine Meissner in January, 1955, at Manitowoc. Following a divorce, Mr. Henrickson then married the former Constance Boetcher July 12, 1968, at Milwaukee. HATTIE E. HINDT Hattie E. Hindt, age 87, formerly of Two Rivers, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 16, 2003 at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. David Scherbarth with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Hattie was born March 16, 1916 in Price County, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William and Louise Tiegs Kusch. On July 31, 1948, she married Robert Hindt in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1991. Hattie was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Schwartz Manufacturing Company and Paragon Electric Company. Hattie and her husband owned and operated the Round Up Bar in Mishicot for 18 years. She was well known for her Friday night fish fries. WARREN W. HOLMES Warren W. Holmes, 51, of 708 MacArthur Dr., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Private funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Manitowoc. The Rev. George Knudson will officiate and burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Holmes was born Mar. 6, 1918, in North Dakota, son of the late Warren W. and Mary Foth Holmes. He attended schools in the Suring, Wis. area and was graduated from Suring High School in 1937. He attended Dickenson College, Williamsport, Pa., University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc County Campus and Lakeland College, Plymouth. He married Dorothy Beissell Dec. 25, 1942, at Tampa, Fla. Mr. Holmes was employed by Eastman Division, Imperial-Eastman Co., from 1940 to 1946 and by Sears Roebuck Co. from 1947 until 1957. He then returned to the sales department of Eastman Division. Mr. Holmes served with the U.S. Air Force from August, 1941, until January, 1946, and was a navigator with rank of first lieutenant in the Korean War, serving from November, 1951, until December, 1952. A member of First Lutheran Church, Mr. Holmes was active in Sunday School and served as church liturgist for chapel services. He was chairman of education on the Church Council, a member of the church choir and of the Men's Brotherhood and Manitowoc Elks Lodge No. 687. As an active sportsman he devoted his summers to coaching boys in baseball for the Manitowoc Municipal Recreation Dept. Surviving him are his wife; a son (Survivor omitted for privacy.); his mother, Mrs. Warren Holmes, of Colorado Springs, Colo., two brothers, Ira C., of Portland, Ore., and Clifford, of Jackson, Wis.; and four sisters, Mrs. Alton (Addell) Johnson, of Laona, Wis., Mrs. Norman (Nomah) Ankerson, of Janesville and Mrs. Marie Kent and Mrs. John (Bonnie) Ulstad, of Colorado Springs. HOLSCHBACH Pearl Holschbach, age 76, of Manitowoc, died early Thursday morning, September 14, 2000, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, due to complications following heart angioplasty. She was born June 7, 1924, in Appleton, daughter of the late Arthur and Frances (Sternagel) Noffke. On July 20, 1946, she married Raymond Holschbach, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. Pearl was employed at the former Elm Tree Bakery, Appleton and also M & M Lunch in Two Rivers and retired in 1989 from Aluminum Specialty/Foley Company. She was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Fishing was Pearlie's passion and her family was her love. She was a great conversationalist and an avid reader. She especially enjoyed attending family sporting events. For the past 42 years, Pearlie and Ray and the Gray Squirrels have hosted a Labor Day Family Reunion to celebrate life with family and friends. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Deacon Ken Nelesen. FRIEDA E. BRUSS HOUGEN Frieda E. Bruss Hougen, age 88, a resident of St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc, died Monday evening, Dec. 3, 2001 at St. Mary’s Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dennis Broehm will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. The former Frieda Widerholdt was born June 17, 1913 at Green Valley, Wis., daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Ferdig Widerholdt. Frieda grew up in the Newtonburg area and attended First German Evangelical Lutheran Grade School in Manitowoc. On Oct. 26, 1932 she was married to Lester R. Bruss at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg, the couple made their home in Manitowoc and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1968. On March 21, 1975 Frieda was married to Alton Hougen at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1976. Frieda was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Immanuel’s Ladies Aid and in the past was an active member of the Manitowoc Senior Center.
