EDWARD MARITA Edward Marita, 78, former Town of Cooperstown resident, died Saturday at Yindra Boarding Home, Francis Creek, where he had been a resident since 1963. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Kellnersville. Mr. Marita was born Oct. 14, 1891, at Stangelville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Marita. He had been employed as a farm laborer, 28 years of which he worked for Fred Husar of Rt. 1, Maribel. Survivors include nieces and nephews. ANNA MAZANEC From Kellnersville is reported the death of Mrs. Anna Mazanec, a well known resident, which occurred this morning after a long illness that brought great suffering from cancer. Deceased was 49 years of age and a widow, her husband having died fifteen years ago. Six children survive. The funeral will be held Wednesday. JOSEPH MLEZIVA, SR. Gibson Farmer's Rites To Be Held Saturday Morning Manitowoc, Wis.-The funeral of John Mleziva, Sr., 80, retired Gibson farmer who died at the farm home, operated by his son, Stephen, Wednesday night, will be held Saturday. A service will be held at the home at 9:30 a.m. and another will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's church, Kellnersville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Mleziva had been ill about four months. He was born in Bohemia in 1856 and came to this county at the age of 16. He married Anna Weber in 1883 and they located on a farm in Gibson, a mile north of Melnik. Survivors are the widow; three sons, Joseph, Francis Creek; Stephen, Gibson; Anton, Rosencrans; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body was moved to the Stephen Mleziva home this noon. CHARLES MUENCH (d. 1923) CHAS. MUENCH, KELLNERSVILLE, PIONEER, DIES Charles Muench, a life long resident of the village of Kellnersville died after a short illness at his home last evening at 8:57 o'clock. He was born in the town of Kossuth and resided there all his life, and for over fity years was a blacksmith in the village of Kellnersville. He is survived by his wife, nee Anna Hayden and by one son, Charles, and two duaghters, Mrs. John Augustin and Clara Muench, all residing at Kellnersville. Besides his immediate family he is survived by one brother Joseph of Kellnersville and one sister, Mrs. Joseph Shuber of Manitowoc. He was a man of kindly disposition and his friendship was prized by all who knew him. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and the St. John's Bohemian society. CHARLES MUENCH (d. 1941) Charles J. Muench, 54, Kellnersville merchant, died Thrusday night at St. Vincnt's hospital in Green Bay after an illness of two months. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m., from the Husar Funeral home in Kellnersville and at 9:30 at St. Joseph's Catholc church in the village, the Rev. Joseph Kallsek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Muench was born at Kellnersville on October 28, 1887, and for the last 22 years had operated a general store there with his sister, Clara. For 30 years he was a rural mail carrier out of the Maribel post office, retiring five years ago. Mr. Muench never married. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Anna Muench, two sisters, Mrs. John J. Augustine and Miss Clara Muench, and one niece, all of Kellnersville. Mr. Muench was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Joseph's church and the society will recite the rosary Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Husar Funeral Home. ANTON J. NESPER Anton Nesper, 66, of Wayside, Brown county, a former county resident, died Tuesday at a Green Bay hospital. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic church, Kellnersville. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. SUZANNE E. NEUSER Two Persons are Killed in Separate Accidents A 14 year old rural Whitelaw girl and a 33 year old man from the Sturgeon Bay area were killed in separate traffic accidents in Manitowoc County over the weekend. Suzanne E. Neuser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. (private) Neuser, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, suffered fatal head injuries when the bicycle she was riding and an automobile collided near her home 2 1/2 miles northwest of Francis Creek on a town road at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday. Conrad Ditewig Jr., of Rt. 6, Sturgeon Bay, died early Sunday from injuries recieved late Saturday night when the car in which he was a passenger collided nearly head-on with another automobile 2 1/2 miles southwest of Manitowoc on Highway 42. Doctor Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, indicated there would be inquests into both accidents. The county now has had 10 traffic fatalities so far during 1967 compared with 12 at this time a year ago. The Neuser girl and her cousin, (private), 6, of Greenfield, were on the bike at the time it collided with a car driven by (private), 25, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, according to county police. Braked Sharply (private) told authorities that he saw the bicycle at and near the center of the road as he came over a slight knoll. He braked sharply and veered to the left but was unable to avoid hitting it. The Neuser girl reportedly was standing and pedaling the bicycle and her cousin was on the seat. The (private) girl was hospitalized at Manitowoc with injuries to the right arm and leg. (private) required treatment for shock after the accident. Authorities said the two girls had been visitng at the nearby Reindl home just before the accident and had been warned to walk the bike to the Neuser residence rather than ride it up the hill. The Neuser girl reportedly had been riding a bicycle for only about six weeks. The Neuser girl's body sheared off a rear view mirror on the right side of the car police reported. She attended St. Joseph Parochial School, Kellnersville, where she would have been an eighth grade student this fall. DARREL OPICHKA Darrel Robert Opichka, five months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Quirin Opichka, died Monday night at the family residence, Cato route 2. Besides the parents, the child is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Opichka and Mr. and Mrs. John Sleger, all of Cato route 2. EDWARD OPICHKA Edward Opichka, 68, of 1213 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon from a heart attack at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Opichka, of Rt. 2, Cato. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Opichka was born Nov. 16, 1883, in the Town of Cooperstown, son of the late Frank and Barbara Tikalsky Opichka. June 20, 1916, he married the former Anna Wanish at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. They settled on a farm in the Twon of Cooperstown, which they operated until 1941 when the farm was taken over by a son, Quirin. Mr. Opichka also operated a threshing machine in the area for about 23 years. Following their retirement from farming the couple moved to Manitowoc where he was employed by Northern Produce Co. and later by Mirro Aluminum Co. until his retirement in 1959. He was a former supervisor of the Town of Cooperstown and member of ZCBJ No. 114, Rosecrans. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Victor and Quirin of Rt. 2, Cato; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Polak of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Frank Korinek of Kellnersville; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. FRANK OPICHKA Frank Opichka, 77, died at his home in the town of Cooperstown last evening after a two months illness. Before he retired he worked as a farmer and did mason work in addition. He was a member of the Bohemian lodge. OPICHKA Retired Maribel Farmer Dies AT His Home Monday Afternoon Joseph Opichka, 71, retired Maribel farmer, died at his home at 5 p.m. yesterday following a paralytic stroke. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. Joseph's church at Kellnersville. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. The body is at the Husar funeral parlors in Kellnersville. Born April 10, 1864, in the town of Cooperstown, Mr. Opichka spent his life as a farmer. His farm was located three miles soutwest of Maribel. He retired five years ago and moved into Maribel. Mr. Opichka was married on September 11, 1891 to Mary Vesely, who survives. He was a member of the Z.C.R.J. of Rosecrans. Those who survive besides his widow include four daughters, Mrs. Otto Spevachek, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Ernest Prithernow, Milwaukee; Mrs. William Pelishek, Denmark; and Mrs. John Dworachek, Brillion; three sons, Charles and Joseph of Milwaukee and William on the home farm; a brother, Frank of Maribel; and six grandchildren. MARTHA OSWALD Martha M. Oswald, age 95, formerly of 12722 Highway T, Maribel, died Saturday night Dec. 15, 2007, at Rivers Bend Medical and Rehabilitation Center. Martha was born July 29, 1912, in the town of Franklin, daughter of the late John and Annie Hausner Oswald. Martha helped on the home farm and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kellnersville. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) STEPHEN PANOCH Stephen Panoch, 60, lifelong resident of the county, died Tuesday evening at his farm home in the town of Kossuth, near Kellnersville, from heart disease. Funeral arrangements have been set for Friday morning, 9:15 at the Husar funeral home, Kellnersville, and at 9:30 the Rev. Frank Svatek will offer a requiem mass for the deceased in the St. Joseph Catholic church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Panoch was born Sept. 16, 1884, in the town of Franklin. In 1920 he took as his bride Ludmilla Kerka, and they settled on the farm in Kossuth where he died. Survivors besides the wife are a brother, James of Mishicot, and three sisters, Mrs. John Skarvan and Mrs. Charles Rose, both of Kellnersville, and Mrs. Joseph Vesely of Manitowoc. The decedent was a member of the Manitowoc county board of supervisors for a number of years and was identified with the early life of commonwealth in which he was a resident. He was affiliated with the Catholic Knights and the obsequies were in charge of that lodge at the funeral which occurred from the Catholic church at Kellnersville today. KATRINA PINGER (d. 1937) DIES AT AGE OF 90 YEARS Mrs. Catherine Pinger Sr. To Be Buried On Wednesday Ill only ten days, Mrs. Catherine Pinger Sr., 90, died Saturday at the home of her son, John Pinger at Kellnersville. In spite of her advanced age, Mrs. Pinger had been active and in good health until ten days ago. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Pinger home and at 10 o’clock from the St. Joseph’s church at Kellnersville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Pinger, nee Catherine Reindl was born in Europe in 1847 and came to America with her parents when she was eight years old. In 1865 she was married to Charles Pinger. After their marriage the couple moved to Chicago where they lived for three years before returning to this county to operate a farm in the town of Franklin. Mr. Pinger died in 1906. Mrs. Pinger is survived by one son, John of Kellnersville and Mrs. Emma Feuerstein, Mrs. George J. PETER RADEJ/RADEY P. RADEY, 83, RESIDENT HERE 60 YEARS, DEAD (name and date of paper unknown) Peter Radey, aged 83 years, a resident of Manitowoc county for over sixty years and who drove teams of oxen here with grain and other farm produce from the farm near Kellnersville, passed away yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard Stangel, five miles this side of Kewaunee. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at ten o'clock from the Catholic church at Kellnersville with interment there. Mr. Radey came to this country when a young man of 23 years and has always resided here. For the past few years he has been living a retired life at the various homes of his children. Two daughters, Mrs. Stangel of Kewaunee and Mrs. Emil Kuenzel(sic) of Milwaukee and four sons, Joseph of Two Rivers, John, Montana, Emil, Green Bay and Frank, Route 6 Manitowoc, survive.


ANNA RAMEKER Mrs. Joseph J. Rameker, 80, of Rt. 1, Maribel, died Monday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient since June 1. The former Anna Korinek was born June 23, 1887, in the Town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Dufek Korinek. She was married Oct. 10, 1905, to Joseph J. Rameker and the couple farmed in the Town of Cooperstown until retiring in 1937. The farm was taken over by a son, Victor, and the couple moved to a home nearby. They observed the 50th anniversary of the wedding in 1955. Mr. Rameker died in February of 1956. Mrs. Rameker was a member of St. Joseph Church Rosary Society. Surviving her are two sons, Edwin, of Rt. 1, Maribel, and Victor, of Rt. 2, Cato, a daughter, Mrs Charles (Ludmila) Havlovitz, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, three brothers, Louis, of Rt. 1. Whitelaw, Joseph, of Rt. 2, Cato. and Edward, of Milwaukee, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A brother and three sisters preceded her in death. EDWIN J. RAMEKER Edwin J. Rameker, 67, of Rt. 1, Maribel, died Sunday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. JOHN REMIKER John M. Remiker, 83, of Kellnersville, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral Saturday At Church In Kellnersville Mrs. Anna Rezat, 78, pioneer resident of the town of Franklin, died last night at the home of her sister Mrs. Flegler in the village of Kellnersville. She had resided there since the death of her husband. Burial will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church at Kellnersville. The deceased, whose maiden name was Anna Strnad, was born in Bohemia and came to this country when a girl of 13 years. She was married here 50 years ago to Joseph Rezat who died 13 years ago. Four sons, Matt of Elgin, James of Milwaukee, Charles, Two Rivers, Louis of San Antonio, Texas, three daughters, Mrs. James Krall, Mrs. George Fehring, and Mrs. H. WENCEL SAUER (d. 1963) Wencel B Sauer, 88, formerly of the Town of Franklin, died Friday morning at Manitowoc County Hospital. Mr. Sauer was born July 8, 1874, in the Town of Franklin, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sauer. He married Mary Bergel in 1900. She died in 1906. He operated a farm in the Town of Franklin until 1957. He was a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge No 221 of Menchalville. AMELIA SHIMEK Mrs. Norman "Pat" (Amelia B. "Dolly") Shimek, age 77, of 513 Pine St., Kellnersville, died on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Dolly was born on March 3, 1930, at Menchalville, daughter of the late John and Emma (Oswald) Schultz. She attended local schools in Menchalville. On May 28, 1949, Dolly was married to Norman "Pat" Shimek at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Dolly retired from the Mirro Company in 1992. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville Senior Center, and the Kellnersville Betterment Association. Dolly enjoyed baking for her family and friends, especially rolls and kolaches, cooking, gardening and playing bean bag at the Kellnersville Village Park. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) CHARLES SKARDA CHAS. SKARDA, 5, DIES AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS An illness of only two weeks duration and which developed into pneumonia yesterday morning claimed the life of five year old Charles, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Skarda of Kellnersville, death occurring at the family home. The parents and neighbors were prostrated by the death as the boy’s condition was not regarded as being particularly serious until the pneumonia developed. The boy was born on February 28, 1926 and in addition to his parents is survived by four brothers, (private), all of Kellnersville. EMMA SKARVAN DEATH COMES AS RELEASE FROM ILLNESS Death came as a release from suffering after two years of illness to Mrs. John Skarvan, well known resident of Kossuth, at 6 o'clock this morning. The funeral will be held Thursday morning with services at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Wellnersville, the Rev. Rous officiating. Burial will be made at the Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Skarvan was 41 years of age, having been born at Cooperstown, February 21, 1881. Since her marriage she has made her home on a farm in the town of Kossuth. MARY SKARVAN Mrs. Mary Skarvan, 75, former Kellnersville resident, died Friday noon at Fairhills Rest Home, Rosecrans, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Rev. Frank Svatek will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The former May Panoch was born in the town of Franklin on Aug. 7, 1890, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Panoch, and in 1905 was married to Albert Janda. He died in 1920. In 1923 she was married to John Skarvan and the couple farmed in the town of Kossuth until retirement in 1943. The couple then moved to Kellnersville where Mr. Skarvan died in 1945. Mrs. Skarvan was a member of the Rosry Society of the parish church for more than 30 years. Surviving her are two step daughters, Mrs. Edward Ledvina Jr., of Maribel and Mrs. Wilbert Vetter of Manitowoc; four step-sons, Frank and Joseph of Manitowoc, Thomas of Minnesota and Victor on the home farm; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Vesely of Manitowoc; 12 gradnchildren and four great grandchildren. A son, Clarence Janda, died in 1935. GEORGE SLADKY GEO. SLADKY, CO. PIONEER, DIES AT SHOTO George Sladky, pioneer settler of Manitowoc county and for years interested in operation of the Shoto flour mill, died at his home at Shoto Thursday at the advanced age of 74 years. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 from St. Joseph's church at Kellnersville. Mr. Sladky was born in Bohemia June 23, 1850, coming to America as a boy of four years with his family which located on a farm in Kossuth where he spent most of his life. Twenty-three years ago Mr. Sladky became interested in the Shoto mill and with his son-in-law and since that time had made his home there. He is survived by his aged wife and four children, Mrs. Anna Holly of Shoto, Mrs. Stephen Dvorak, of Two Rivers, Frank Sladky of Shoto and Wenzel Sladky of Oshkosh. ANNA (MENCHAL) SLEGER (information sent in by family researcher, see contrib page) Mrs. Anna Sleger, age 98, formerly of Kellnersville, a resident of Shady Lane Home, Manitowoc, died Thursday morning April 6, 1995, at Shady Lane Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 10, 1995, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Rev. Ronald Colombo will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with Sr. Marlene Greatens as Homilist. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The former Anna Menchal was born September 26, 1896, in Menchalville, daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine Hynek Menchal. She attended public school in Menchalville. On August 18, 1914, she was married to Jacob Sleger at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The couple farmed in the town of Kossuth until 1950 when they moved to Kellnersville. Mr Sleger preceded her in death on May 31, 1979. Over the years Anna worked at Polifka's and Kubsch's Restaurants as a waitress and baker. She was a member of Kellnersville Homemakers, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and the Church's Rosary Society. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marcella Sindelar, one grandson, Dr. Ronald Sindelar, one greaat-grandson, Todd Michael Meissen, a grandaughters husband, Raymond Meissen, one sister, Mary Remiker, one brother, Joseph Menchal. DOLORES STEDL Dolores J. Stedl, age 91, formerly of Whitelaw, died early on Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 2008, at Care Partners Assisted Living of Manitowoc. Dolores was born on May 29, 1916, in Spruce, daughter of the late George and Julia (Cavanaugh) Oswald. She grew up in Maple Grove, and attended schools in Manitowoc County. She married Walter Stedl Sr., on June 12, 1934, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1987. Dolores and Walter owned and operated Stedl's Bar in Menchalville, and Dolores drove school bus for Brandt Buses. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kellnersville, the Menchalville Homemakers, and the Whitelaw Senior Citizens. Dolores enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. WILLIAM J. STEDL Sp.-4 Stedl, 19, dies of Military Wounds MANITOWOC-Sp.-4 William J. Stedl, 19, combat infantryman with Co. B, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, died Monday in Vietnam as result of wounds received in a military action Sunday. Word of his death was delivered to his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pontzloff, Rt. 2, Greenleaf, Wednesday morning by an army officer from St. Norbert College, West DePere. Specialist Stedl had been in Vietnam since July 16, 1968, after completing preliminary training after enlistment in the Untied States Army. He received his basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky., after entering service Feb. 14, 1968, and additional training at Camp Polk, La. Stedl, a Reedsville High School 1967 graduate, distinguished himself during his junior and senior years of high school as a member of the track team. He was team captain in his senior years. He was top cross cuntry runner in the Little Nine Conference and a member of the school Lettermen's Club. Prior to entrance into service he worked at Ariens Co., Brillion. Specialist Stedl was born July 6, 1949, in the Town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, son of the late Edwin Stedl and Mrs. Marie Gurklis Kitzerow Stedl. He also attended Wayside Grade School. Besides his mother and stepfather, he is survived by a brother, a stepbrother and two foster brothers (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was married to Anton Steeber July 1, 1919, at Oshkosh. The couple farmed in the Town of Kossuth, residing there until 1966. Her husband preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1966. The young man, who was born at Reedsville Sept. 4, 1906, attended the St. Mary parochial school at Reedsville, St. Norbert College, DePere, the St. Procopius seminary, Lisle, Ill, and the St. Francis seminary, Milwaukee. ANTOINETTE SWETLIK Mrs. Andrew Swetlik, 76, a resident of the county for over 70 years, died last night at the home in the village of Kellnersville. She had been ill several months, following a stroke of apoplexy. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m., from the home and at 9:30 from the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Kellnersville. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Swetlik, nee Antoinette Novak, was born in Bohemia and when a girl accompanied her parents to this country. They located in Kossuth. In 1885 she was married to Mr. Swetlik and they located on a Kossuth farm near Kellnersville. Four years ago the couple moved to a home in the village, the farm being taken over by a son, Henry. Survivors are the widower; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Watzke of this city, Mrs. Walter Bruss of Maribel; son, Henry, of Kossuth; brother, Joseph Novak of Two Rivers. He had suffered with heart disease for a long time. The deceased, who was about 42, leaves a widow and 4 children as well as his elderly mother.

Rose enjoyed gardening, playing cards, square dancing, cooking and baking. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Western Fraternal Life Association. MARGARET WANISH Mrs. John Wanish, 81, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Shanda of Kellnersville. She had been ill about three months. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Husar funeral home in Kellnersville and at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic church, the Rev. Frank Svatek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wanish, nee Margaret Wachal, was born in 1866 in Franklin and in 1884 was married to John Wanish, and they moved to a farm in Franklin. He died 14 years ago. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Shanda of Kellnersville and Mrs. Edward Opichka of Manitowoc; two sons, Joseph of Maribel and John of Menchalville; two sisters, Mrs. Matt Shanda and Mrs. Joseph Malley; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wanish was a member of the Holy Rosary society and members will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday. MARY WEBER Mrs. John Weber, 72, of Kellnersville, died at home Saturday evening following a stroke Friday. Funeral services will be 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The former Mary Remiker was born Aug. 22, 1891, in the Town of Franklin, daughter of the late Martin and Mary Pivonka Remiker. She was married to the late John Weber Nov. 10, 1919, at Kellnersville. They resided at Kellnersville for 17 years, then moved to a farm in the Town of Kossuth, retiring from farming in 1950 and moving in 1951 to Kellnersville. Mr. Weber died Oct. 30, 1960. Mrs. Weber was a member of St. Joseph Church Rosary Society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Baumann of Kellnersville and Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Leiterman of Denmark; a brother, John M. Remiker of Kellnersville; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Mazanec of rural Cato; and six grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister also preceded her in death. Friends may call at the funeral home where there will be a Rosary by the Rosary Society at 7:15 o'clock this Monday evening and at 8 o'clock by Msgr. Kalisek and the parish. MARIA AND MARGARETHA WELLNER From Der Nord Westen, 02 Feb. 1899: Hard times have visited Mr. Michael Wellner in Kellnersville. Thurs. morning last week his 70-yr. old mother, Mrs. John Wellner, was found dead in her bed. Her funeral was held on Sat. As if this were not enough, his 30-yr. old wife died Mon. leaving him with 5 small children. Her funeral took place yesterday morning. It goes without saying that Mr. Wellner has the sympathy of everybody.


JOSEPH WISNER (d. 1934) OLD RESIDENT DIES AT FARM Joseph Wisner Sr., 82, Is To Be Buried On Friday Joseph Wisner Sr., 82, a resident of the county for more than 60 years, died Tuesday afternoon at the farm home near Menchalville, in the town of Franklin. Mr. Wisner, who had been living a retired life on the farm now operated by his sons, was stricken with a cold last Friday from which complications developed. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Kellnersville. The deceased was born in Bohemia in 1852 and at the age of 18 came to this country with his family, which located in Franklin. He was married in 1880 to Miss Catherine Havlovitz. They located on the homestead farm. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wisner celebrated their golden wdding. Survivors are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. John Hill, Cato; two sons, George and Joseph, Menchalville; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. ANTON J. YINDRA REASSESSMENT OF DAMAGES FOR WIFE, WHO SUFFERED INJURIES BUT GOT LOWEST AWARD OF DAMAGES, TO BE ASKED OF COURT Damages in the sum of $440 were awarded Anton Yindra and his wife, Frances Yindra against Frank Opichka by a jury in circuit court when heard the two actions joined in trial. Mrs. Yindra, who sued for injuries sustained in caving in of cistern which Opichka had the contract for, was given $215 while her husband, who sued for loss of services of his wife, was awarded $225. A motion for a ressessment of damages for Mrs. Yindra will be presented by her attorneys, Hougen & Brady, and if the court grants the motion the matter will be heard by a jury at the June term of court. Opichka, it was alleged, had the contract to build a cement cistern for Yindra. When water was turned into the cistern it caved in, Mrs. Yindra being injured in the disaster. It was claimed that she had sustained permanent injuries. She sued for $1,000 and her husband for $500. The case was given to the jury yesterday at noon and a verdict was returned at 4 o'clock. JULIA YINDRA Mrs. Mike J. Yindra, 73, of Rt. 1, Maribel, died Saturday morning at home of a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Yindra, nee Julia Korinek, was born Oct. 19, 1894, in the Town of Franklin, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Dufek Korinek. She was married to Mr. Yindra Nov. 25, 1913, and the couple located in the Town of Cooperstown. She was a member of the Rosary Society. Surviving are her husband, two sons, three daughters, three brothers, Louis, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, Joseph, of Rt. 2, Cato, and Edward, of Milwaukee; a sister, Mrs. Anna Rameker, of Rt. 1, Maribel, 23 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday where at 7:30 p.m. the Rosary Society members will recite the Rosary and at 8:15 p.m. there will be the parish vigil. MICHAEL YINDRA Mike J. Yindra, 83, of Maribel, died Saturday evening at Maple Crest Home, Whitelaw. Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Saur Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Very Rev. Msgr. Alfred A. Schneider will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Yindra was born Mar. 31, 1890, in the Town of Cooperstown, son of the late Joseph and Anna Svatos Yindra. He married Julia Korinek Nov. 25, 1913, residing in the Town of Cooperstown. He was a retired building contractor and a pioneer polka band leader. He had his own band, known as the Mike Yindra Orchestra. His band was the first to broadcast over Radio Station WOMT. He was a member of the W.F.L.A. Lodge No. 114 of Rosencrans and a former member of the Master Builders and the Musicians Union Loca1. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 25, 1967. Survivors include two sons, three daughters, 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Friends may call at Saur Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday until the time of service. A parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
