PAUL A. LAMPHERE Paul Lamphere Dies At His Home In Milwaukee Paul Lamphere, Milwaukee, son-in-law of Mrs. J.C. Kustermann of St. Nazianz and former resident of the county, died Tuesday at his home in Milwaukee of peneumonia. The body was brought to St. Nazianz today and funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the St. Gregory's Catholic church. Mr. Lamphere was married to Miss Rose Kustermann June 22, 1927. Besides his wife he is survived by a two and a half month old daughter, Theresa Rose. FRANK LAX Sr. (d. 1934) Frank Lax Of St. Nazianz Dies After An Illness St. Nazianz.-Frank Lax, aged 76, died at 2 a.m. today at the home of his son, Frank, Jr., three miles west of here, following a lingering illness. Mr. Lax was born Feb. 2, 1858, in Bavaria, Germany, and came to America in 1869 with his parents, who settled at Kellnersville and later moved to the town of Eaton, where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1887 he was married to Miss Theresa Farenback, who died a year later. In 1892 he was united in marriage with Miss Amelia Zuber of St. Nazianz, who died in 1912. Survivors are: four daughters, Mrs. Ed. Bechle, Mrs. Rudolph Schreiber of Kiel; Mrs. Louise Lulloff of Stockbridge, and Miss Rose, at home; four sons, Anton, near Kiel; Joseph of Fond du Lac; Frank Jr., on the homestead, and 18 grandchildren. Four children, a sister and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory's church here. The Rev. Father Fintan will officiate. The Rev. Finton, S.D.S., officiated and interment was made in the adjoining church cemetery. The Holy Name society, of which Mr. Lax was a member, attended the services in a body, and six members acted as pallbearers. They were Andrew Groh, Nic. Steffen, Henry Brunmeier, Godfrey Schuler, Anton Schley and Carl Fessler. Relatives and friends from out-of-town who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bechle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schreiber and family of Kiel; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lulloff and family, Mrs. Lena Giese of Stockbridge; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Igl and son, Frank, of Antigo; Joseph Breu and daughter, Viola, Anton Breu and daughter, Armella, Mrs. Herman Daniels of Marshfield; Mrs. William Schnell and son, Raymond, Mr. And Mrs. William Ahrens of Osman; Frank Miller and son, Joseph, of Kohler; Mr. and Mrs. Adam Vogl and daughters, Margaret and Rose, and son, George, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Horneck and son, George, Mrs. John Schinabeck and son, Nick, of Sheboygan; Mrs. And Mrs. Louis Morgan and Joseph Lax, Fond du Lac. The father of Mr. Lax built a chapel on the home farm many years ago, which now is annually visited on the fourth of July by many people from far and near. ROSE LAX Miss Rose Lax Of St. Nazianz Dies On Sunday St. Nazianz. -(Special)-Miss Rose Lax, who made her home with her brother, Frank, three miles west of this village, died Sunday night at 11:30 o'clock at Chippewa Falls where she had been a patient since last April. She had been ill since her 14th year, but last Friday she was stricken with pneumonia. She was born three miles west of St. Nazianz on a farm homestead and was the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia Lax. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Edward Bechle of Kiel, Mrs. Louis Lueloff of Stockbridge, and Mrs. Rudolph Schreiber of School Hill; three brothers, Anton of the town of Eaton, Frank at home, and Joseph of Fond du Lac. One sister, Mrs. Frank Miller of Kohler preceded her in death six years ago. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory's Catholic church here, and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Finton Holzknecht will officiate. Miss Lax was a member of the Young Ladies' sodality of the church, and the members will assemble at the home Wednesday at 8 p.m. to say the rosary. They also will attend the funeral Thursday morning. JOHN F. LECHLER John F. Lechler, 81, of 108 Park Ave., Kiel, a retired Town of Eaton farmer, died Monday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was born June 13, 1897, in the Town of Eaton, a son of Ferdinand and Emma Strassman Lechler. He attended the district school. On May 25, 1926, he married the former Bridget Kautzer at St. Nazianz. The couple resided in St. Nazianz for seven years and moved to the Lechler home farm in the Town of Eaton which they operated for 40 years. Mr. Lechler also did blacksmith work. They retired a year ago and moved to Kiel. (Survivors omitted for privacy) Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. ADOLPH LETTENBERGER (d. 1937) DIES SATURDAY IN MILWAUKEE Services for Adolph Lettenberger To Be At St. Nazianz Adolph Lettenberger, 78, St. Nazianz, died Saturday evening in the St. Joseph's hospital, Milwaukee, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks. Mr. Lettenberger underwent three operations several weeks ago and was apparently recovering. He contracted pneumonia, however, which caused his death. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the St. Gregory's Catholic church, St. Nazianz. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Born at St. Nazianz Mr. Lettenberger was born at St. Nazianz August 30, 1859. He was married June 24, 1884 to Ida Weinkoetz. For about two years after his marriage Mr. Lettenberger was employed as a blacksmith. Then he operated a tavern for 16 years and finally moved to a small farm outside the village limits. For the past 20 years he has been field boss for the St. Nazianz Pea Canning company. He served for a time as treasurer of the town of Eaton. He was a member of the Holy Name society of the St. Gregory's church. The society will attend the services in a body Tuesday and will meet at the home this evening at 8 o'clock to say the rosary. Kelm, city. She was born Dec. 19, 1863, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weinkoetz, in St. Nazianz. On June 24, 1884, she married Adolph Lettenberger, who died two years ago. She lived her entire life in St. Nazianz, except for the past two and a half years which she spent with her daughter. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Kelm, Mrs. Frank Kretsch, Kiel, and Mrs. Joe Heimer, Adams, Minn.; two sons, Peter of Valders and Edmund of St. Nazianz; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Mothers' sodality, St. Nazianz. Funeral services are planned for Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Gregory's church, St. Nazianz, the Rev. F. On June 24, 1884, she was united in marriage with Adolph Lettenberger, who preceded her in death two years ago. Since that time she has been living with Mrs. Kelm. The rest of her life was spent in St. Nazianz. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Kelm of New Holstein, Mrs. Frank Kretsch of this city, and Mrs. Joseph Heimer of Adams, Minnesota; two sons, Peter of Valders and Edmund of St. Nazianz; 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. FRANCES LIESBERGER Mrs. Frank Liesberger Dies Following Fall A Week Ago St. Nazianz - Mrs. Frank Liesberger of this village died at the Holy Family hospital at Manitowoc, Friday morning at 2 o'clock, following a fall which occurred three weeks ago. Mrs. Liesberger, nee Frances Meyer, was born in Frankenberg, Austria, on February 9, 1857, and in 1886 she was married to Frank Liesberger of Austria. Four years later the couple came to America, settling first in Pennsylvania, then in Sheboygan, and later moved to St. Nazianz where they resided until 1921, when they moved to Buffalo Grove to live with their daughter. In 1932 they again came back to St. Nazianz where they have resided ever since. Mrs. Liesberger was the last surviving member of the Meyer family, six sisters having preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Miss Ann of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. John Horcher, nee Frances, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., one son, Anton, of Evanston, Ill., and nine grandchildren. Twelve children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Gregory's church here. The body will lie in state at the C.O.F. hall until the time of services. The Rev. Finton(sic) Holzknecht will officiate at the funeral, and interment will be made in St. Gregory church cemetery. The Christian Mothers' society of which Mrs. Liesberger was a member, will attend the services in a body. She was also an honorary member of the Lady Forester court in the state of Illinois. FRANK LIESBERGER (d. 1940) F. Liesberger Dies On Tuesday; Services Friday St. Nazianz, Wis.-(Special)-Frank Liesberger, 83, passed away at his home in this village Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock. Deceased was born in Austria on Feb. 9, 1857, and in 1887 was married to Miss Frances Meyer. In 1890 they came to America, setting in Pennsylvania. After three years they moved to Sheboygan and after making their home there they came to St. Nazianz and have resided here since. Fifteen children were born to the couple, of whom three survive; Miss Anna of St. Nazianz, with whom the deceased made his home; Mrs. John Horcher and Anton of Buffalo Grove, Ill. Twelve grandchildren also survive. His wife preceded him in death in June, 1934. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Gregory's church at St. Nazianz, and burial will be made in the church cemetery. The Rev. Fintan Holzknecht will read the requiem mass and also conduct the services at the grave. Mr. Liesberger was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Gregory's parish and members of the society will pray the rosary Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kellenbenz Funeral home, and also attend the services in a body. The body was removed to the Kellenbenz Funeral home and friends may view it there from now to the time of the services. GEORGE LOESSL George Loessl, 89, formerly of St. Nazianz, died Thursday evening at Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Cyril Dickrell will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Loessl was born June 24, 1886, in Germany, son of the late Nicholas and Anna Loessl. He attended school in Germany. He married Ida Loos July 26, 1920, at St. Nazianz. He was a retired farmer and gardner at St. Mary Convent, St. Nazianz. Mrs. Loessl preceded him in death in 1964. Survivors include a son, three daughters, a sister, Sister Crypriana, of St. Mary Convent, Milwaukee, 13 grandchildren and a great grand- child. Brothers and sisters preceded him in death. IDA LOESSL Mrs. George Loessl, 70, of St. Nazianz died Thursday at her home after being stricken with a heart attack. Born April 15, 1894 in the Town of Schleswig, she was a daughter of the late Mathias and Theresa Loos. She attended schools in St. Nazianz and Kiel and on July 26, 1920 married George Loessl at St. Nazianz. MATHIAS LOOS Mathias Loos Called To Rest Sunday Evening Mathias Loos, 64, better known to his friends as Uncle Matt, 1217 Alabama avenue, passed away Sunday evening at his home. He was born in Town Schleswig, Manitowoc county, on April 17, 1879, and attended country and parochial schools in St. Nazianz. On Oct. 26, 1909, he was married to Miss Rosa Strauss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Strauss, St. Nazianz, the Rev. Father Herman of St. Gregory’s church performing the ceremony. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Loos moved on a farm at Maniwa, Wis., where they remained for 18 years, coming to Sheboygan in 1927. For a year he was employed by the Wisconsin Public Service corporation, and until the time of his death, at the Phoenix Chair company. He was a member of the St. Peter Claver Holy Name society and of the St. Leo court No. 267, Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors are his wife, four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Joseph McCarthy, Sheboygan; Mrs. John Mertz, Chilton; Mrs. Regina Baumgartner and Mrs. Ida Loessel, both of St. Nazianz; Frank Loos, Aniwa, and Herman Loos, Valders. There are also 39 nieces and nephews of whom nine of the latter are in the service of the armed forces. Funeral services will be conducted from the Ramm Funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning and at 9 o’clock at the St. Peter Claver church. The Rev. C. J. Hausner will officiate. HERMAN LULLOFF H. Lulloff Passes away Death claimed Herman Lulloff, aged 91, at 11:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, where he had been a patient for the past six months. Mr. Lulloff is well-known in the business sections throughout this part of the state. He was born in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan county, on March 1, 1845(sic), and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Lulloff. At the age of 2 years, the parents located on a farm five and one-half miles east of Kiel, where they remained for quite a number of years. Mr. Lulloff attended the district shools in Schleswig township. On May 29, 1876 he was married to Miss Rose Loos, who resided near Kiel, and the couple operated a farm four miles northeast of Kiel for 28 years. During the year of 1900, the Lulloffs' disposed of their farm, and Mr. Lulloff formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, William F. Christel of Valders, and they operated a hardware and funiture business in St. Nazianz. After three years the partnership was dissolved, and Mr. Christel started his own hardware store at Valders. For another 19 years Mr. Lulloff continued to operate the St. Nazianz business. Then for a period of 23 years. Mr. Lulloff conducted a hardware and furniture business in Kiel, in company with his sons, Fred and William. Following the death of Fred Lullof on Oct. 28, 1945, and the departure of William Lulloff, who made Milwaukee his home, the business was run by three grandsons of the deceased, Alois, Alphonse and Frederick, Jr. For the past 22 years Mr. Lulloff has been retired from business activities. Of the four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lulloff, only one son William, of Milwaukee, survives. The three who preceded Mr. Lulloff are; a daughter, Mrs. Clara Bennin, and two sons, Fred and John. His wife passed away Feb. 10, 1930. Thirty-one grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also survive together with two sisters, Mrs. Tina Stark of Chilton and Mrs. Ottilie Heinzen of St. Nazianz. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Kheil officiating. JOHN LULLOFF CALLED BY DEATH. The many friends of John Lulloff were shocked to hear of his sudden death at the Sheboygan hospital on Monday evening, following a successful operation for the relief of appendicitis two weeks ago. The patient was up and around and had intended to return home the following day, when he suddenly became the victim of heart failure. Death came soon after. His wife was at his bedside. Mr. Lulloff was born in the town of Schleswig, June 10, 1885, and lived on the farm with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lulloff, until he was 15 years of age. The family then moved to St. Nazianz, where they lived for 22 years, coming to Kiel two and a half years ago. He had an interest in the hardware firm of H. Lulloff & Sons, where he was employed. Fourteen years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Kustermann. His wife and seven children survive him, also his parents, two brothers, Fred and William of Kiel, and one sister, Mrs. Aug. Benien of St. Nazianz. Following the funeral services in St. Peter & Pauls church here on Friday morning, the remains will be taken to St. Nazianz, where services will be held in St. Gregory's church, Rev. Roder of Kiel officiating. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Prosper Paronte S. D. S. officiated a Solemn High Regniem(sic) Mass at 10:30 a. m., he was assisted by a Salvatorian father from the Monastery, and Rev. A. Roder of Kiel. A sermon was delivered by Rev. A. Roder, burial on adjoining cemetery. Mr. John Lulhoff was born at St. Nazianz and married Miss Josephine Kusterman of here. A few years ago the Lulhoff Bros. removed their hardware store to Kiel, the deceased being in partnership. He died Monday, March 23, at the St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, following a serious operation March 14. His remains were brouqht to Kiel, where they lay in state at his home until his funeral. He is survived by his widow and seven children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lulhoff, a sister, Mrs. August Bennin of here and two brothers, Fred and William at Kiel. His last wish was to be buried at St. Nazianz. Mr. Lulhoff was a prominent young man and liked by all. After the funeral a dinner was served to the mourners and friends in the Forrester’s hall. JOSEPHINE LULLOFF Mrs. Josephine Lulloff died at her home in Milwaukee Sunday following a stroke New Year's Eve. She was born Dec. 7. 1888, in St. Nazianz. the daughter of the late J. C. Kustermann. The Sheboygan Press, Monday, January 04, 1954 | Page 12 ******** Mrs. Josephine Lulloff died after a lingering illness, and a stroke which occurred Sylvester evening(sic) she passed away Sunday at 9 p.m. at her home in Milwaukee, where she and her family moved 16 years ago. She was born December 7, 1888, at St. Nazianz the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kustermann and was married to John Lulloff on May 30, 1911 at St. Nazianz. Lulloff died in March 1925. The couple had 11 children, eight living and all at her bedside when death came; three died in infancy. Mrs. Lulloff will lie in state Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Baker Funeral home 54th and Lisbon Ave., Milwaukee, and the body will be brought to St. Nazianz on Wednesday where she will lie in state at the Kellenbenz Funeral home, and may be viewed from 4 o'clock Wednesday until the time of burial. Thursday at 10 a.m. a solemn requiem high mass will be sung by her nephew the Rev. Clyde Wagner assisted by the Rev. Frederick Dorn and another priest, at St. Gregorys Church, St. Nazianz. Burial in the adjoining cemetery will follow. The children surviving are; Mrs. W. R. (Bernadette) Toban, Milwaukee, Mrs. Raymond (Beatrice) Sikonra, Milwaukee; Mrs. Charles (Rita) Philbert, South Milwaukee; Miss Clarissa Lulloff, Milwaukee; Miss Mary Theresa Luffoff, Milwaukee and Paul, Cyril and Louis all of Milwaukee; five grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Dr. L. C. Kustermann, Milwaukee; Dr. A. F. Kustermann, Milwaukee and Augustine Kustermann, St. Nazianz. The sisters are Mrs. Monica Wagner and Mrs. Paul (Rose) Lamphere both of St. Nazianz. Her parents, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Lulloff was a member of the St. Mary Help of Christians, Catholic Church in Milwaukee and was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Third Order of St. Francis. The rosary will be recited at the Kellenbenz funeral home St. Nazianz on Wednesday evening. The family is well known in St. Nazianz as Lulloff was a son and in partnership with the Herman Lulloff and sons Implement Co. in St Nazianz which later moved to Kiel. Mrs. Lulloff was born at Niagara Falls, New York on February 4, 1851. When she was two years of age she came to the town of Schleswig, where she grew to womanhood. Her marriage with Herman Lulloff of Town Schleswig was solemnized on May 30, 1876. The couple lived on a farm in that township until 1891, when they moved to St. Nazianz, where they operated a hardware store. The marriage was blessed with five children, one infant dying at the age of six months and a son, John preceded his mother in death five years ago. Those who survive are two sons, Fred and William of Kiel, who operate a hardware store, and a daughter, Mrs. August Bennin of Charlesburg. Thirty-two grandchildren also survive. Mr. and Mrs. Lulloff celebrated their golden wedding anniversary four years ago. *********** Mrs. Herman Lulloff died at her home in St. Nazianz Monday of this week at the advanced age of 79 years. She was the mother of Fred and William Lulloff of the H. Lulloff and Sons hardware store. The deceased, nee Mary Loos, was born Feb. 4, 1851, at Niagara Falls, New York. At the age of two years she came to Wisconsin with her parents, who settled in the town of Schleswig. Here she grew to womanhood, and on May 30, 1876, she was united in marriage to Herman Lulloff, who whas also a resident of Schleswig. The couple lived for a number of years on a farm near here, after which they moved to St. Nazianz, where her husband opened a hardware store. To the couple, five children were born, one of which died in infamcy, and another, John, having died five years ago. Surviving children are Fred and William in Kiel, and Mrs. August Bennin of Charlesburg. Thirty-two grand- children survive also. Mr. and Mrs. Lulloff observed their golden wedding anniversary four years ago. The last rites for this pioneer woman who always played an important part in the life of the community will be held this Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Gregory's church, St. Nazianz. A solemn requiem high mass will be sung for the deceased. EMIL LUTZKE Emil Lutzke Dies Tuesday, July 1 Emil Lutzke, 84, of St. Nazianz, died Tuesday, July 1, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Funeral services were at 10:15 A.M. Saturday at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home and 10:30 A.M. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Cyril Dickrell, S.D.S. officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Lutzke was born January 3, 1891, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Carl and Anna Luebke Lutzke. He farmed in the Town of Liberty until 1955, when he retired and moved to St. Nazianz. He married Laura Mullins June 7, 1916 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Elton of R.1, Valders, Kenneth and Emil Jr.,at home and William of R.1 Manitowoc; a brother, John, of Manitowoc, 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. A son, a daughter, two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. MELVIN A LUTZKE Melvin A. Lutzke, 90, of St. Nazianz, died Monday morning, Aug. 19, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, where he was a patient since last Tuesday. He was born Oct. 9, 1911 in Hika (Cleveland), son of the late William and Adeline Quante Lutzke. He attended Woodland grade School and was a graduate of Kiel High School. On Oct. 9, 1940, Melvin married Georgene Wick at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Melvin owned and operated a dairy farm and mink ranch in the St. Nazianz area all his life, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. He also served many years on the Manitowoc County Board of Adjustments, was one of the originators of the Lake-to-Lake Dairy co-op, and a Lakeland Fire & Storm Insurance board member for 23 years. He was also one of the early members of the Town of Meeme Farm Bureau and a member of the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau. Melvin enjoyed playing cards with his friends, but his greatest love was dancing to Big Band music. Survivors include his wife, Georgene; five children, six grandchildren. He is further survived by three great-grand- children, two stepsisters and two step-sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Yvonne; one infant son, Joseph; one brother-in-law and three stepbrothers. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Thursday Aug. 22, 2002 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz with the Rev. Gregory Coulthard officiating. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel on Thursday from 3 until 5:45 p.m. when brief family rites will be held. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
