MATHILDA IDA BAHR From Der Nord Westen, 15 Dec. 1904: Death in Town Centerville at 2 a.m. Sat. of Mrs. Mathilda Bahr, nee Boettcher, a few hours after giving birth to a little boy. The deceased was born 06 June 1868 in Centerville and married Louis Bahr in 1887. In addition to her parents, she is survived by 3 brothers, a sister, her husband, 3 sons and 2 daughters.


ALFRED DEHNE From Der Nord Westen, 27 May 1909: Death Monday last week in Centerville of an 11-year old son of the Carl Dehne family from pneumonia. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Reformed Church in Town Centerville by Pastor Kurtz.


CHARLES "CARL" DEHNE Carl Dehne, 76 retired Centerville farmer, died Saturday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital following an illness of several months. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stoltenberg funeral chapel, Cleveland, and at 2 o'clock at the St. John Reformed church, Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Dehne was born in Centerville in 1871 and in 1893 married Miss Henrietta Becker. They located on the homestead farm in that town. On the death of his wife in 1944 Mr. Dehne retired and has been living with his children. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Hugo Stock of Centerville, Mrs. William Steffen of this city and Miss Arlene Dehne of Milwaukee; five sons, Walter, Marvin and Arnold of Newton and Emil and Lester of this city; four sisters, Mrs. Herman Monk, Mrs. Ludia Stock and Mrs. August Hintz of Newton and Mrs. Ervin Gabsch of Cleveland; three brothers, Henry of Stetsonville, Wis, Edward of Colby, Wis and Peter of Newton; 31 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. HEINRICH DEHNE One of the highly esteemed pioneers of Centerville, Mr. Heinrich Dehne, was called away by death on Thursday morning 2 o’clock at home with his daughter, Mrs. Herman Monk, at the age of 80 years. The deceased was born on 6th of March 1847, at Amsterdam in Holland and at the age of 6 years came to America. For 60 years he took over the farm in northern Town of Centerville, which he operated until recently. On 15th of December 1870, Mr. Dehne and Miss Louise Zurheide from Sheboygan were bound in marriage. The wife died 14 years ago and is survived by 11 children, 31 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Ernst Grotegut, Mrs. Herman Monk, Mrs. Aug. Hintz and Mrs. Arthur Gabsch in the Town of Centerville, Mrs. William Stock in Newton, Mrs. Erwin Gabsch in Sheboygan, Charles in Centerville, Heinrich in Medford, William and Edward in Colby and Peter in Newton. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, 1 o’clock at the home and at 2 o’clock at the Reformed Church on the Town Line. Father Funk officiated. SOPHIA LOUISE HENRIETTA DEHNE "HENRIETTA" Mrs. Carl Dehne, 67, nee Sophia Louise Henrietta Becker, of the town of Centerville, died at the holy Family hospital this morning after a three weeks illness. Mrs. Dehne was born in the Town of Centerville November 29, 1876, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Becker. She was married to Carl Dehne April 22, 1893 and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. Survivors are her husband, Carl, of town of Centerville, and three daughters, Mrs. Hugo Stock of Curtiss, Wisconsin, Mrs. William Steffen of Manitowoc, Miss Arlia Dehne at home, and five sons, Walter, Arvin and Arno all of Centerville, Emil of Manitowoc, and Lester of St. Wendell. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren adn eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Stoltenburg Funeral Chapel in Cleveland and at St. John's Church in the Town of Centerville at 2:30 the Rev. K.J. Stuebbe officiating. YVONNE MARIE DEHNE Yvonne Dehne, four month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dehne of 1719 Michigan Ave, Sheboygan, died Friday afternoon in a Sheboygan hospital. The parents and two sisters, Bernadine and Shirley, survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Nennig funeral home at St. Wendel, with interment in the cemetery of the Ebeneezer Reformed church at Newton. FRIDA MAGDELENA GOEKE From Der Nord Westen, 31 Mar. 1904: Death in Town Newton on Fri. of the 16-yr. old daughter of Mr. Fr. Goeke, Jr., from a combination of meningitis and appendicitis. The funeral was held Tuesday.


LINA GOEKE Mrs. Lina Goeke, 74, a Town of Newton resident, died Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient for the past nine days. Born Jan. 15, 1900 at Manitowoc Rapids she was the daughter of the late William and Henrietta Stockmeier Wicke. She was married April 23, 1921 to Albert Goeke. The couple resided in the Town of Newton where they operated a farm. He died in 1968. Mrs. Goeke was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church at Newton and its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors are two sons (private), three daughters (private), a brother Gustav, R. 1, Manitowoc; a sister Mrs. Anna Bremer, Mikwaukee; 19 grand children, and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, with the Rev. Chester Ploeger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in the Town of Centerville. WILHELMINE GOEKE From Der Nord Westen, 11 June 1908: Death Saturday on their farm in Town Centerville of Mrs. Wilhelmine Goeke from dropsy. The deceased, a sister of Friedrich Stockmeier in Newton, had been ill for 5 years. She reached the age of 40 yrs. 8 mos. 5 days and is survived by her husband and a daughter. Her funeral was held yesterday afternoon.


MARIA GROTEGUT Sheboygan Press: "Mrs. Grotegut Of Cleveland Passes Away Wednesday", 29 Dec 1932 Mrs. Ernst Grotegut, who was stricken with apoplexy on Friday night, died at her home at Cleveland, Route 3, at 11 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Grotegut, nee Marie Dehne, was born in Town Centerville, on February 2, 1877 and lived there practically all her life. Her marriage to Ernst Grotegut took place January 25, 1902. Survivors are: her husband, four daughters, and two sons, three grandchildren, five brothers, Carl Dehne, Town Centerville; Henry Dehne, Medford; William and Ed. Dehne of Colby and Peter Dehne, Town Newton; five sisters, Mrs. Hrman Monk and Mrs. August Hintz of Centerville, Mrs. William Stock of Newton, Mrs. Irvin Gabsch, Sheboygan and Mrs. Arthur Gabsch, Centerville. One child died at the age of two years. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at St. John's Ebenezer Reformed church and the Rev. Mr. Froneberg will officiate. ERNST GROTEGUT Ernst Grotegut, 92, a retired Town of Centerville (Manitowoc County) farmer, died Sunday evening at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. Mr. Grotegut, who had been residing on the home farm on the Lakeshore Road, two miles south of Newton, now operated by his son, Alvin, had been hospital- ized one week. A native of Centerville, he was born Jan. 25, 1873, a son of the late Fred and Louise Sewald Grotegut. He married Mary Dehne, Jan. 25, 1902. Following their marriage the couple operated the above-mentioned Centerville farm. His wife died in December, 1932 Mr. Grotegut was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church in the Town of Newton. Surviving, in addition to the son, Alvin, are another son, Raymond, R. 1, Newton; four daughters, Mrs. Roland Freis (Linda), Kiel, Mrs. Edgar Jacobi (Nelda), R. 1, Newton, and Miss Orma Grotegut and Mrs. Urban Jacoboski (Violet), Manitowoc; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One daughter also preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Salem Church, Newton, with the Rev. Norman Hoeflinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Centerville.


ADELA GROTEGUT From Der Nord Westen, 04 Oct. 1906: A little girl in the Grotegut family in Town Centerville died Saturday of child cholera and was buried Monday. The child was 1-yr. and 11 mos. old.


AUGUSTA JANING Mrs. John Janing, 90, a former Town of Newton resident, died Friday at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where she had been a patient for the past two months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton. The Rev. Norman C. Hoeflinger will officiate and burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Town of Centerville. Mrs. Janing, nee Augusta Nagel, was born March 26, 1882, in the Town of Liberty, daughter of the late Ludwig and Mathilda Moldenhauer Nagel. She was married to John C. Janning June 9, 1904, at Valders. The couple resided in Newton where Mr. Janing operated a blacksmith business for 51 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1955. She resided with her daughters until two years ago when she became a resident of Tamarack House, Sheboygan. Mrs. Janing was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton, and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ester) Hoegger of Sheboygan Falls, Mrs. Anita Klister of Sheboygan, Mrs. Emil (Elvira) Kerwin of Kohler, Mrs. Lou (Irene) Biener of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Ray (Lorraine) Hinz of Sheboygan, a brother, Louis Nagel of Sheboygan, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. A daughter, Loueen, six sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. ELSIE KIELSMEIER Mrs. Oscar Kielsmeier, 76, of Rt. 1, Newton, died Sunday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark United Church of Christ, Town of Mosel. The Rev. Ruben Grosshuesch will officiate and burial will be in St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery, Town of Centerville. Mrs. Kielsmeier, nee Elsie Bermke, was born March 4, 1895, in the Town of Centerville, daughter of the late William and Emma Bermke. She was married to Oscar Kielsmeier Dec. 1, 1915, at Manitowoc and they resided on their poultry and dairy farm. She was a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Donand and William, of Sheboygan and Melvin and Theodore, of Ventura, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Jess (Violet) Cook, of Arcadia, Calif., Mrs. John (Caroline) Niesing Jr., of Milwaukee and Mrs. Vernon (Irene) Feldt and Mrs. Herbert (Olive) Sommer, of Sheboygan; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Jacobson, of Manitowoc, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmitz, of Sheboygan and Mrs. Olive Rehrauer, of Two Rivers; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Three grandchildren, a brother and a sister preceded her in death. METTA KIELSMEIER Mrs. Metta Kielsmeier, former resident of the town of Centerville and widow of Fred A. Kielsmeier, who operated a cheese factory and creamery here for about fifty years, died Saturday evening at the home of her son, Otto Kielsmeier, at Watseka, Ill., after a short illness. The body has been brought to the Robert H. Kroos Funeral Home where it can be viewed from tonight until 1 p.m. Tuesday when brief services are conducted there. At 2 p.m. services will be held at the Reformed church in the town of Centerville, Highway 141, on the town line. The Rev. Edward Nuss will officiate and interment will be made in the church cemetery. Mrs. Kielsmeier was born Nov. 14, 1855, in the town of Centerville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Bahr. She was married there to Fred A. Kielsmeier, who died five years ago. For the past four years, Mrs. Kielsmeier resided at Watseka, Ill., with her son, Otto. She was a faithful member of the Reformed church in the town of Centerville and enjoyed a large circle of friends in that community. Survivors are six sons, Otto, Watseka, Ill., Rudolph and Walter, Milwaukee, Hugo, Kingston, Wis., Samuel, Ogelthorpe, Ga., and Arno, Washington, D.C., eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, Charles and Louis Bahr of Cleveland, and Gustave Bahr, Milwaukee, and a sister, Mrs. Adolph Grotegut, Newton. NORMAN A. LUTZE Norman A. Lutze, 57, a Town of Newton (Manitowoc County) farmer and cattle trucker, was found dead in the cab of his truck that had run off County Trunk C west of Newton Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, Manitowoc County coroner, attributed death to a coronary attack. He said it was not classified as a traffic accident. Mr. Lutze had driven for Gordon Karstaedt, a cattle buyer. A native of Newton, he was born September 24, 1913, a son of the late Robert and Rose Bauman Lutze. On November 25, 1938, he married Ruth Roehl in her Sheboygan County home. Mr. Lutze was an elder in Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton. (Survivors omitted for privacy) Funeral services were held Saturday in Salem Church, Newton, with the Rev. N. C. Hoeflinger, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Town of Centerville.


MABEL S. OHLSEN Mrs. Mabel S. Ohlsen, 57, of 905A Chicago St., Manitowoc, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Victor N. Hillestad will officiate and burial will be in Newton Cemetery. Mrs. Ohlsen, nee Mabel S. Sommers, was born March 15, 1915, at Oneida, daughter of the late Mose and Cordelia Wheelock Sommers. She moved to Manitowoc 30 years ago. She was married to Lawrence Ohlsen in March of 1963. He preceded her in death Sept. 9, 1967. Survivors include two sons, four daughters, two step-sons, and two step- daughters (Survivors omitted for privacy.); a brother, Hyson Sommers of Oneida, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Quistorf of Manitowoc and Mrs. Harvey Hassmer of Francis Creek and eight grandchildren. LOUISE RAUBER From Der Nord Westen, 16 Jan. 1908: Death Saturday of 18-year old Miss Louise Rauber after a long illness. The deceased leaves her parents and (brother?). The body was taken to Centerville for burial.


DONALD STUCKMAN Re-burial services for Pfc. Donald H. Stuckman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Stuckman, route 1, Newton, were held at the Pfeffer Funeral home at Manitowoc on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Erwin Warber officiated and burial was made in the Centerville Reformed church cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Cleveland post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Color guards were Ray and Alvin Casper, color bearers were Kenneth Schnell and Wallace Pippert while Thomas Gretz, Albert Stuckman, Roger Jost, Eugene Basler, Howard Vogel and Roland Fiedler acted as pallbearers. During the services Jeanelle and Jennifer Grotegut sang, “Safe in The Arm of Jesus” and “God Be With You, Til We Meet Again”. Pfc. Stuckman was born in Newton in 1922. Prior to entering the U.S. Marine Corps in March, 1944, he was a welder at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding company yards. He left for overseas in November, 1944, after training at Oceanside, Calif. He was killed on May 14, 1945, on Okinawa after seeing action on Guadalcanal. The survivors are his parents; one brother, Norman; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Reichwaldt of Newton and Mrs. Fred Radder of route 1, Kiel. The body of Pfc. Stuckman was escorted to Manitowoc by Sgt. William G. Williams. Among those attending the services were: Mrs. Paul Boedeker and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Herwig of Plymouth and Mrs. Fred Stuckman of Elkhart Lake. OTTO STUCKMAN Otto C. Stuckman, 79, of Rt. 1, Newton, died Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Town of Newton. The Rev. Norman C. Hoeflinger will officiate and burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Centerville. Mr. Stuckman was born Oct. 4, 1891, in the Town of Herman, Sheboygan County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stuckman. He married Hulda Stock Oct. 14, 1915, in the Town of Centerville. The couple farmed in the Town of Newton following marriage. His wife preceded him in death in 1958. Mr. Stuckman served as former secretary of the Newton Telephone Exchange. Survivors include a son, Norman, of Rt. 1, Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Edna) Reichwaldt, of Rt. 1, Newton, and Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Radder, of Rt. 1, Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Richard Herwig, of Rt. 3, Plymouth; and nine grandchildren. A son preceded him in death in military service in 1945 and also a brother and a sister. ARTHUR STUCKMANN Arthur Stuckmann, 79, a former, Town of Centerville resident, died Saturday afternoon at a Manitowoc hospital following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton. The Rev. Norman Hoeflinger will officiate and burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Town of Centerville. Mr. Stuckmann was born Feb. 14, 1889, in the Town of Herman, son of the late Henry and Louise Klocke Stuckmann. He married Lena Steckmeier March 29, 1913, and they farmed in the Town of Centerville. Mrs. Stuckmann preceded him in death Jan. 19, 1944. Mr. Stuckmann had been a member of the Town of Centerville Board and served on the school board for 20 years. He had also been a member of the St. John Reformed Church, Town of Centerville, consistory. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arvin (Anita) Vogel, of Sheboygan; five sons, Albert of Newton, Leland of Manitowoc, Paul, of New Berlin, Gilbert of Rt. 1, Cleveland, and Raymond on the homestead farm; a brother, Otto Stuckman (sic) of Newton; a sister, Mrs. Richard Herwig, of Rt. 3, Plymouth, and 12 grandchildren.
