Marx H. Libke(sic), aged 70, a former resident of this village, died
Wednesday at his home in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Mr. Libke was born November 10, 1872, near New Holstein on the
farm now owned by Hugo Libke, the son of Marx and Anna Libke.
Mr. Libke spent his early years here, except for a short time in
Milwaukee. In 1905 he married Miss Emma Peters of New Holstein,
and two years later they went to Dundurn, where they have
remained since. He was operating a two-section farm there at
the time of his death.
Surviving are the widow; seven children, Lucille and Florence 
at home, Mrs. Charles (Verna) Knock, Mrs. Erwin (Norma) James,
and Victor and Roland Libke, all in Dundurn; one sister, Mrs.
Rudolph Zarmsdorf of New Holstein; seven grandchildren, and
many nieces, nephews, and cousins in New Holstein.
Funeral services were held on Friday in Dundurn, and burial
was made there.

Calumet County to parents Rudolph Peters (1850-1931) and 
Margaretha Mohrwinkel (1856-1948).

Called By Death
After a lingering illness of several months with cancer of the liver,
Mrs. Elizabeth Liffring, an old-time and respected resident of Kiel
and the town of New Holstein, passed away at her home here at the
age of nearly 78 years. The deceased was born in Alsace-Loraine,
Germany, April 15, 1842, and came to America at the age of 12 years
with her parents, who settled in this section of Wisconsin. In 1865
she was united in marriage to Joachim Baivier, the couple settling
on a farm in the town of New Holstein, about one mile west of Kiel.
Her first husband died in 1877, and two years later she entered a
second marriage with Frank Liffring, who preceded her in death six
years ago. For the past 28 years Mrs. Liffring has been a resident
in Kiel. She is survived by one son, Ed. Baivier of Milwaukee, and
four daughters, Mrs. John Hertel of Chilton, Mrs. Mary Casper of
Milwaukee, who has been caring for her for several months, Mrs. Nic.
Klauck and Mrs. Lizzie Rasch of Kiel. She also leaves 17 grand-
children and 10 great grandchildren. The funeral took place on
Tuesday morning, services being conducted at St. Peter and Paul's
church in Kiel by Rev. Rumpel, and at St. Ann's church by Revs.
Schmitt and Rumpel. The choir sang at both churches, and the 
Christian Mothers Society, of which she was a member, escorted the
remains to the grave at St. Anna, where they were laid to rest on
the family lot. A large number of relatives and friends attended
the funeral. Among the former were the following from Chilton:

Mr. and Mrs. James Millay, Thomas and Joseph Hertel, whose 
attendance was much appreciated by the children of the deceased.

At seven o'clock on Saturday evening, Mr. Frank Liffring, another of the
pioneers of the area and a veteran of the Civil War, died in his home in
Hinzeville after a lengthy illness due to kidney disease and reaching the
age of close to 80 years. The deceased was born in Luxemburg, Germany and
came with his parents to America as a young man, where they first settled
in New York State, and after several years came to the Town of New Holstein.
Mr. Liffring married the widow Baivier in 1880, and they lived for many
years on a farm 3/4 of a mile west of Kiel. In 1893 he came with his wife
to Hinzeville, where he continued to live and now died. The marriage 
produced one daughter, Mrs. Emil Rasch who lives in Hinzeville. Besides his
wife and one daughter he leaves behind three stepdaughters and one stepson,
namely: Mrs. John Hertel in Chilton, Mrs. Chr. Casper and Frank Liffring in
Milwaukee and Mrs. Nic Klauck in Kiel, and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Merk
in St. Anna, Mrs. Aug. Ehlenbeck in Milwaukee and Thomas Liffring in 
Waterloo, Iowa.
The funeral took place on Tuesday morning at the St. Peter and Paul Church
with Father Kolbe officiating, after which the casket was taken to the
cemetery at St. Anna for burial.

Former St. Anna Resident Dies
Jacob Liffring, 91, died Monday afternoon at Calumet Memorial hospital, 
Chilton.
Funeral services for the former St. Anna resident were held Wednesday.
The Rev. Benedict Marx was celebrant of the requiem mass at St. Anne
Catholic Church, St. Anna. Burial was in the church cemeery.
Mr. Liffring was born June 27, 1876, the son of the late John and
Barbary Engel Liffring. He was a farm worker all his life. In June of
1962 he moved to the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein.
Only immediate survivor is a sister, Mrs. Joseph Bernz of Fond du Lac.
