Elkhart Lake—George Gerhard, 81, former resident of this community, 
died suddenly today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Raeder, 
Plymouth. He was born in the town of Rhine on April 19, 1863, and 
in 1886 was united in marriage with Miss Agatha Ruppenthal.  The 
couple resided in Elkhart Lake where for approximately 40 years 
they conducted a hotel.  Since the death of his wife in 1926, Mr. 
Gerhard had been retired. 
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Raeder, and Mrs. Allen Wade, 
Tuscon, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sell, San Diego, Calif., 
and Mrs. Mary Kissinger, Elkhart Lake, and five grandchildren.  
Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.  
Funeral arrangements pending.

Elkhart Lake - Mrs. George Gerhard, 64 died Wednesday at her home 
here after a lingering illness. 
She was born September 9, 1861, at Manitowoc, her maiden name being 
Augusta Ruppenthal. 
She was married January 6, 1887, at Kiel to George Gerhard, and the 
couple moved to Rockford, 111., where they resided for fourteen years. 
In 1911 the family moved to Elkhart Lake. 
The survivors are her husband, three children, Mrs. Arthur Raeder of 
Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Allen Wade of Plymouth and Mrs. Terrett Goldammer 
of Elkhart Lake, two brothers, Adolph Ruppenthal of Cascade and Rudolph 
Ruppenthal of Hilbert, two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Noll of Chilton and Mrs. Louise 
Avery of Kiel, and three grandchildren. 
The funeral will be conducted from the home Sunday and then from st. 
John's Evangelical church, the Rev. F. W. Zeh officiating. Burial will be at 
the Elkhart Lake Cemetery.

JACOB GERHARDT, ELKHART LAKE RESIDENT, SUMMONED
Elkhart Lake—(Special)—Jacob Gerhardt, 72, died at the home of 
his daughter, Mrs. Hans Olson, Elkhart Lake, from a heart disease 
which he had been suffering from for approximately one week.  He 
had been at the home of his daughter for several weeks prior to 
his death.  
Mr. Gerhardt was born in the town of Rhine May 3, 1865.  He spent 
the early years of his life there except for a few years that he 
lived in Rockford, Ill.  He was a butcher by trade and operated a 
meat market at Elkhart Lake for 30 years. For several years he was 
proprietor of the Central Hotel at Elkhart Lake.  
On June 23, 1889, he married Miss Katherine Rosenthal of Elkhart 
Lake. Children born to the union were Mrs. Olson, Jacob and Edgar 
of Madison, Robert of North Prairie, and George of Oshkosh, Mrs. 
Roma Hansen, a daughter, preceded her father in death; and two 
children died in infancy.  Mrs. Gerhardt died August 4, 1916.  
A year later he was married to Mrs. Anna Toepfer.  One child of 
this marriage, Katherine, and his wife survive.  One brother, 
George of Elkhart Lake, and three sisters, Mrs. William Kissinger, 
Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Carl Sell and Mrs. George Sell of Glidden 
survive.  There are two stepsons, Elmer and Marvin, and one 
stepdaughter, Esther, and 12 grandchildren.  
Funeral services were held at the Raeder Funeral home and at St. 
John’s Evangelical church.  The Rev. Carl Nagel will officiate 
and burial will be made in the Elkhart Lake cemetery.

Harry Sell of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. John Hewitt and Mrs. Elizabeth Sell of
San Diego, Calif., spent several days last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Hans Olson and with other relagives. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gerhard and family
and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Gerhard and family of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Hansen and Mrs. Norbert Pirron of Green Bay were Sunday guests at the Olson
home. On Friday, Mrs. Olson, Mr. Sell, Mrs. Hewitt and Mrs. Sell visited
the Robert Gerhard family at Waukesha and at the Herman Koerble and Mrs.
Margaret Booth homes at Milwaukee.
