CALLED BY DEATH
William Broeckert, pioneer of Manitowoc county and a resident of Kiel
for more than fifty years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto
F. Reuther, 830 N. Seventh street, Manitowoc, Tuesday morning, after an
illness of several years, due to general debility and age. Mr. Broeckert,
who was born in Schleswig, Germany, Nov. 17, 1851, came to Manitowoc
county at the age of 16 years and located at Kiel where in later years
he became prominent, serving in village offices and for three terms was
a member of the county board from this village. For thirty-six years he
was engaged in the grain business and later engaged in real estate and
insurance lines.
A year and one-half ago Mr. Broeckert moved to Manitowoc and made his
home with his daughter. Besides his wife Mr. Broeckert is survived by
three children, Mrs. Reuther of Manitowoc, Mrs. Bernard Greve and Kuno
J. Broeckert and one grandchild, at Mt. Carmel, Ill.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from the Turner hall in New
Holstein, services being in charge of the Kiel Lodge of Odd Fellows.

********
Nicolaus Brost and Magdalena Stein were married Sept. 11, 1883 at St.
Wendel, Town of Meeme. There is some question as to if this marriage took
place on Sept. 11, 1884. I believe the 1883 date is correct. That is
because the marriage record in the court house is placed with other records
from 1883, with none showing for 1884 until later in the records.
