| Kent and Beverly are now co-webmasters with me. Kent will maintain the NEWS section and as he learns more about the site and coding, he'll take on more of it. Beverly will maintain the first half of the cemeteries, real estate transfers and the births. Can't believe my good fortune! | |
| These volunteers will do lookups: When requesting information, please be as specific as you can in your inquiry. I can always use more volunteers for lookups or helping with the files if anyone wants to offer. NOTE: Please do not ask for an obit giving only a year. this is asking the volunteer to look through hundreds of newspapers to find an obit. | |
| Lisa She will do obit lookups in news archives that are online. Not all have been put online yet. | Mary Lou For Civil war queries |

Notice:
For people who use information from this site for their family trees and want to put a source
down, please use 2manitowoc.com for the source because from time to time I have to split files
and that may change the address you put with the information. You could put 2manitowoc.com
and then name the general section you found what you needed..such as marriages, cemetery
number/name, glass negatives, etc.

|
List of Cemeteries by Township, with transcriptions. Obituaries are linked to the person's name and tombstone photos have a separate link as do photos of a person. Note: Until cemeteries were established, many early settlers buried their dead in the forests and just anywhere in the fields. |
| MASTER LIST OF SURNAMES IN CEMETERIES |
|
I have numbered the cemeteries, and beside each surname you will find a series of numbers that correspond with the cemeteries. This should save you having to look through every one to find the name you're looking for, as the surname will be only be found in the cemetery or cemeteries with those numbers.

| OBITUARIES |
| There are enough obituaries linked in the cems, that this section isn't needed any more. So we decided to remove it as it is redundant and a huge waste of server space. |

Cross Index for Wives in the Marriages
What the county and state charge for copies of records
The True marriage bill was passed by the assembly yesterday and with
the Governor's signature, the bill will become a law. It requires that
a license must be obtained five days before the marriage ceremony is
performed. Boys, get a move on yourself if you desire to "fool" the
legislators and escape the fee.
Manitowoc Daily Herald, Manitowoc, Wis. Saturday, April 1, 1899 P.4
Parents should remember the duty which the law imposes on them in
regard to the registering of births that occur in their families. The
law limits the time in which to perform this duty to thirty days.
Frequent notices of this requirement have been given through the city
press, and it is hoped that in the future it will be universally observed.

| INDEX TO MANITOWOC COURT RECORDS 1849-1905 |
| Probate records dating back to 1850 are at the Manitowoc County Courthouse. It costs $4 per name for them to search for someone. $1 per page for copies. No cost to search in person, copies still $1 per page. Some records are on microfilm. If you need those printed they have to be sent over to the Manitowoc library so you will not get the copies that day (if you're doing this in person). Cofrin library in GB (area research center) also has Manty probate records. They will also pull them for a fee. Here is what they told me in an email: We do have Manitowoc probate records that date from 1869. We do not have the actual index, it is still at the Manitowoc Probate Office. You may either contact them directly or send us the request via our website, Cofrin Library and we can call them. We need the name you are looking for and a case file number should you call them yourself. (all from researcher) Numbers are included in this index. |
